With the winter just staring, there's talk beginning again of the ceremony last year. The festival was appreciated, but now, things are starting to sink in about the words of the Heavenly Gods. Not many of the clan have accepted them, but there's still a feeling that it's a bad idea to snub the gods... You ask Elia if he needs any further help with what he's been working on all year, but he just shakes his head. "No, but thank you for the offer, brother. It's nearly finished. Will there be a big event about it this year too? If so, I'll present it then."

>Will you make the winter ceremony to honour the gods of the Sacred Heavens an annual event?

Having little else to occupy you until the winter ceremony, you make your way down to the river and the small shrine. The winter makes for poor fishing, so apart from two children teasing a very sleepy frog on the bank some distance away, you are completely alone. No sooner had to approached the shrine, when a great splash and the surprised shrieks of the children heralded Nila's arrival.

You were unsure what to expect from the goddess you've had so little contact with for so many years, but you certainly didn't expect her arms around your shoulders, as she pulls you into a tender, if not amorous embrace.
"Nila-?"
"Shh. Trym, I've avoided you, neglected you... Even though I forgave you, I feared you. For that, I am sorry."
Your arms come up of their own accord, pulling the goddess into your chest, holding her close. You can feel the weight of years drop from your shoulders as she's there. You love Beren, certainly, but Nila's absence left a wound that has not yet begun to heal. Maybe it was the way you parted, or the coldness after she forgave you, but this moment feels like a much more genuine forgiveness than before.
>>
>>45445013
"I... Can't stay like this," she mutters, but you refuse to let her go. She doesn't protest. "Even after- You still came to help me. I wasn't sure you would."
"If you were gone, the whole valley would go with you," you sigh, stroking her head gently. "But even if that weren't the case, I never stopped caring for you, even after we parted ways. And as the shaman, it's my duty to help you when you need me; you've helped me and my people often enough."
"Thank you," Nila mumbles, before sighing and wiping her eyes, pulling back from the embrace. Her hands remain in yours though. "Trym, I won't do this again. I may not remember much before you and your people came into my life, but I've learned what I recall, I see with much greater clarity than you humans. In time, I can forget, but it takes far longer... I can still remember you when we first met face-to-face." Her fingers touch your cheek as her voice shakes, betraying her downcast face. "You've aged. You've aged well, but it's catching up. I could live long enough to see children who are as distant to you, as you are to those that first came to the valley. If I fall in love with you again, I will carry that pain of your death for longer than you can imagine." She hangs her head, downcast. "I... I will never forget you. I will never hate you. But I cannot love you again."

"I did not come to ask," you reply, gently squeezing her soft hand with your own, calloused and roughened by life. "Only to make sure you were alright."
You spend a happy time with Nila, renewing the friendship that has dwindled but not died during your time apart. She is recovering well and soon will be as strong as she ever was.

>Will you make the winter ceremony to honour the gods of the Sacred Heavens an annual event?
But of course!

OK, guys!

If we have little to do before the cerimony, let's get started on that sky shrine!

Goals for this year!

Domesticate animals to have a new source of wealth into the clan, one that's not dominated by Mesut, We don't specifically need to control the meat distribution, it can be the settled herders, but it's important that the wealth is distributed and not centered on a single family.

Get the fucking talks with the strangers started and start inviting them to live with us, I prefer we do this unification thing in this lifetime thank you, Don't forget to seek the stranger leader that we gave the spear to, we honored him greatly with that gift and he will be more welcome to our words.

I'm listing this things to help because I won't be able to check on the thread a lot.

Just got through reading through the archives btw. Great quest. Literally the only issue I have is that there isn't more of it. Which is less an issue and more a compliment.

A smaller crowd than last year accompanies you for the winter ceremony. It seems the appearance of the gods last year scared off many of the clan, but a handful of the curious attend in the hopes of seeing something miraculous. Sadly, they are mildly disappointed. At the zenith of the ceremony, as you ask the heavenly gods for their guidance and support in the new year, a strange light fills the area and the whispers of the congregation behind you tell you that the gods have indeed made their presence known, if not through such obvious methods as the year before. The true miracle this year, comes during the gift-giving that follows.

Elia, accompanied by yourself, Beren and Galit, laboriously carries the stone, as long as his forearm and a span and a half wide and wrapped in a soft, scraped goatskin. He places it carefully on the altar stone and pulls the covering away, revealing the gleaming white limestone, roughly carved into the figure of a winged woman that you presume is Rhea. As Elia and his wife join hands and kneel, you say a few words on their behalf, appealing to the gods to see their piety and grant their wish. The cold hilltop remains quiet and lonely, until the four of you turn to walk home. Perhaps more is required to please Rhea sufficiently to grant your brother and his wife their miracle.

As you turn to go however, all of you feel a gentle touch on your shoulder... As Galit looks back, she shrieks in surprise, soon joined by Elia's cry of joy and then... The distinctive sound of a baby's surprised scream.

Left at the altar, wrapped in an unfamiliar blanket, is a small, smiling child.
>>
>>45446356
Take it! Take it before Elia can!
>>
>>45446356
The whole clan is shocked and stunned to hear of the miraculous baby boy's appearance! Elia and Galit are immediately the centre of attention for everyone, desperate to see their new son. Your brother names the boy Bayhan and by all accounts, he is strong, happy, bright and laughing. Galit may yet still be as afflicted as ever, but there is no doubt in the couple's mind that the child is theirs, Galit even happily pointing out Bayhan's similarities to his 'father'.

It is now late winter. What will you do?

The bitter winter is the worst time to be a herdsman, according to the herders in your village. It's better than being a nomad at least. Here they have had a chance to make themselves a warm home and more importantly, to lay in supplies over the year and get the goats a warm and safe place to wait out the winter. They do their best to impress upon you and the other few who have caught onto the wisdom of keeping animals, the necessity to gather as much feed as possible for the livestock, as well as a little extra, just in case of a disaster, like a leaky roof spoiling the hay. That also explains why they spent so much time during the year drying out grass, while the rest of the tribe thought them slightly mad (no-one needs THAT much for their bedding, after all!)

Their concerns at keeping the feed for the animals dry also reminds you that you're now starting to harvest more grain than you can reasonably store... Well, besides that, you think you're starting to get the hang of caring for the damn animals now, even if the finer points of making them obey you still elude you. At least wolves had a natural tendency to follow their alpha!

The seasons have turned again and the world is starting to warm up. It is now early spring. What will you do?

You have 15 labour points available.
>Wild Shrine - 20 points

Work begins on the shrine that Tengr demanded of your people. While at first there is general resentment among the tribe of building something for a god that's essentially extorting you, the grumbling fades as they realise the enormity of what they are undertaking. Other gods have had small, meager altars in the past, but the shrine to Tengr is something else entirely. A pair of small, partially enclosed shacks stand flanking a circle of pillars the height of a man, surrounding a central totem pole that stands twice as tall and with branches coming from it, hung with bone wind chimes and the feathers of birds. Though it is not yet complete, it is an impressive sight that fills the tribe with pride.

Many of the tribe begin talking of the majesty of Tengr, looking upwards more often and discussing his might relative to the other Gods of the Wild.

It is now Late Spring. Trym has just turned 40 and the nomadic herders and traders have returned. What will you do?

I feel like by mastering farming, domestication and religion we can have a good offer for the strangers once they see how much we have to offer. The only thing is we might have to do a show of force to keep the strangers from just taking what we have, but since we've treated with many of the natural gods maybe we could convince them to do something. After all, a united tribe means more people and more people means more food and worship that we can offer them

I MADE IT, I'm here

Also as we get older and have our family taking over more of the duties around the household we should turn our attention to building more impressive altars for the other gods as well, wouldn't want to be playing favorite (except for Nila, that one we make and oversee ourselves as a lasting tribute and testament) and it would bring more of the gods into the every day life of the tribe.

As you continue trying to win the respect of those filthy goats, you find yourself looking back on all that has passed over the course of your life and speaking about it to your family in the evenings. Honestly, it's extraordinary that you've done as much as you have in your lifetime. You have the feeling that it should be recorded, so that your children's children can see the trails you have gone through. You suggest that Ebba try to paint it, but your daughter simply shrugs. She has little interest in art, it seems. Elia, meanwhile, is much more enthusiastic. He volunteers to the task, suggesting that the gods may well look favorably on such an action. It seems his experience with them, has made both himself and Galit quite devoted to the Heavenly Gods.

Meanwhile, you think you've finally cracked it. You were relying too much upon the beast's goodwill, or alternately, too much upon fear and power to keep them in line. You've finally found the mix, with the help of your dogs, that lets you keep the goats in line with minimal effort. Others of the tribe are also taking up the practice. Many of them are trading great quantities of their personal belongings to the nomads, in exchange for small herds of their own. Oddly enough, while he does acquire a small herd of his own, Mesut does not immediately use his comparatively vast wealth to snatch up as much of the limited supply as he can. You suspect this may in part be some attempt to convince you of his lack of aspirations for further power.

>You have discovered Animal Domestication. You may now tame herd beasts for food, but further research will be required before you can use them for much else
>You will need to trade, if you wish for your own herd, or acquire them by other means

Is it too early to just shout CHURCH PROPERTY at a few of the goats and their ours now?

Inventory check/idea of what we have/cant get easily that they may want

If we don't have anything, I'm thinking we have Ebba and Galit create something worth trading.

From what I remember of my Native American History class the women generally spent a good deal of time creating trade goods/gifts as they had more time available.

If its possible to do this >>45451373 I wouldn't mind, but we may need to establish more of a base first.

Next thread, I'm going to suggest we go to Nila and ask her to take her daughter and teach her all she knows.
>>
>>45467308
I don't really mind supporting that. But this time, lets alert the family FIRST.
>>
HAH! See, I CAN fucking post at least ONCE more tonight!

Many options present themselves as tempting in the new year. With animal keeping growing more and more popular among the tribe, plenty of families are snatching the opportunity to trade for goats as fast as the nomads can breed and sell them! Soon nearly every family will have at least two or three females, with a male every two or three families; more than enough to grow the small population over a few years. Before you put your focus into that however, you realise you have a prior commitment to attend to.

It doesn't take too much longer. The small open-sided shelters are finished, the ring completed and the altar put in place. You personally bless the shrine to Tengr before a gathering of the tribe. One of the herders surprises you however. He brings forth the same fucking bully-goat that put you on your ass when you started learning and grins, handing you a flint knife. Among his people, who routinely take the lives of their herd to feed themselves, this act in itself is sacred. A human is the boundary between life and death for the herd and consequently, for humans too. That life is a powerful thing, even from a creature as meager as a goat. They have already established a tradition of offering life to Maar, the bull god. He asks if you will do the same for Tengr

>Sacrifice the goat
