Your Name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and you’re having a conversation with another Oni. More specifically you and Trish are having a conversation with Hotaka Kondo, some sort of scrap metal artist who’s also an Oni (His beard is awesome).

You sought him out after your Grandfather told you where he learned about your Oni nature from. Kondo just dropped a bombshell into the conversation, something strong enough could potentially possess a human magic user and use them to somehow pervert your bond. Among the things strong enough, demons are apparently on the list. You’re not dumb, you’ve heard of demons, but there’s controversy on what demons actually are. Most supernatural and fantastical beings are common knowledge, even if explicit information about them is widely debated. This new information is making your head spin a bit, well, it’s probably the sake making your head spin. It’s strong even for you.

>Demons?

>Change the subject to him, ask him about himself etc.

>Get another glass of sake, you really need it

>Write in?

StrikeZone, given that we're a void oni, do we actually know any magic? Like, can we cast spells?

If not, we should ask this guy. Even if he doesn't know much/any magic himself, maybe he could point us towards Oni-Hogwarts or something.

Because being a Void Oni that doesn't know magic is just sad.

“So… You mentioned demons?” You ask Kondo, the only response he gives is a grunt of acknowledgement. “Like, what kind of demons? Or I guess a better question would be, what the hell are they?”

“Not many people know much, or anything really, about them.” Trish chimes in after taking a sip of her tea. A very grim look comes over Kondo’s face for a moment, as if he was thinking about something terrible. It quickly gets covered by his normal, pensive expression. However a quick glance at Trish reveals that she caught it too.

Kondo remains silent for a minute or two, slowly stroking his beard in thought. Suddenly he drains his sake glass in one pull and that looks at both of you in the eyes.

“This information is not common knowledge, so don’t go repeating it.” You both nod quickly, he grunts again and continues speaking. “Demon is more of a moniker than an actual creature. There are several kinds of “creatures” that can have that moniker. The first are beings that are malicious and not of this world. Misshapen beings called from beyond our time or dimension, and other such things. Originally Youkai were like this, before they managed to get stuck in our reality and reproduce. The second kind are malicious spirits that have retained their sentience, they can be incredibly powerful but are often limited by their own psyche.” He pauses for another moment, seemingly gathering the will (or courage) to finish.

(cont.)
>>
>>45382870
“The third are… Hmm I guess the easiest way to explain it would be to use the Christian example. They are beings of immense power that were once something else, the usual story is that they’re fallen angels.” He pauses, AGAIN, as if for dramatic effect. Then immediately pours the last of the sake down his throat. You’re not entirely sure how to respond to that, actual fallen angels? Trish seems lost in thought as well, her face is scrunched up as if she’s trying to work out a complicated math problem in her head.

>>
>>45382893
>Change the subject to him.
>Change the subject to something about Oni

The demon stuff is good to know, but it's just speculation that anything like that might have been involved with the binding.

Ask about him. We're the first Oni from our family in generations, does he haven any ... Oni-lifestyle tips? Oni culture or traditions we should be upholding?

Does he do any ... Oni stuff we could try? Where does he get Oni-grade booze? Does he know a local supernatural boxing league that could handle an Oni?
>>
>>45382893
>Change the subject to something about Oni (What?)

That weird thing that happened during our last meditation session, after the binding thing.
>>
Looks like we've got some good Oni questions.

Writing
>>
You take a deep breath, this demon stuff is interesting but it’s all conjecture at best, there’s no evidence of their involvement. There are some other questions you have, specifically about your personal Oni-ness. He is the first Oni you’ve ever met, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t want to hear his thoughts.

“That’s fucking spooky,” you say aloud “But there’s no reason to fear their involvement, it’s all just speculation anyway. If you’re willing to answer I’ve got a few questions about Oni in general, specifically about myself.” Kondo’s lips quirk up into a small smile, and motions for you to continue.
“So I know the general gist of what it means to be an Oni, the drinking-fighting-element stuff. But what does it MEAN? Like, I’m not sure if there aren’t cultural taboos I’m breaking or something.” Kondo’s small grin turns into a full blown smile.

“There’s not a whole lot to it to be honest, we fight and drink, that’s it. Besides that and serving your Lord, Oni don’t give a fuck how you or anyone else lives. Bushido was made for humans, flowery language just obscures meaning and politics is for fools. Just do what you want to do girl, live the life you want. But that’s not everything you wanted to hear, was it?” He asks you, his eyes dancing with quiet laughter. You rub your arm a bit sheepishly.

“I’m curious about my power, I know that I can use weapons slightly better than an untrained person and that I can use the Void to see through magic, but what does my element do?” You try to keep the excitement you’re feeling from entering your voice, and you mostly succeed.

“Hmmm, a void Oni huh? Unfortunately my soul is earth, not steel.” You look down for a moment slightly disappointed, but he continues. “I do know something about it though, you voiders are good at magic. It’s almost instinctual to you.”

“I have been seeing weird things when I meditate.” You quickly interject, he nods once.

“Yeah that’s how it starts, you’ll start picking stuff up in no time. Unfortunately there’s no one here to help you learn it. The only other Void Oni I know is in Michigan, and he’s a jackass. You’ll probably develop some affinity with the sky as well, get a riding cloud make some thunder, other shit.” He says, shrugging a bit at the end. “We’re all different there’s no set way to how any of us will develop.”

“Thanks for answering, it means a lot.” You tell him, he let’s out a large belly laugh in response.

“Why wouldn’t I answer you?” He chuckles.

“Why’re you out here anyway? Houston seems like a random place for Oni like you to be.” Trish asks. Kondo just shrugs at her.

“My family were the guardians of a powerful clan for many years, when some of them came here so did some of us.” He says nonchalantly, playing with the ring on his left hand again. Trish grunts and goes back to drinking her tea, still on her first cup.

“How do you know all this stuff? It seems like you know a lot about magic and other monsters.” You ask.
“I’m old little sister, very old. We live a long time, we’re not immortal by any means, but we can live four or five human lifetimes. It also doesn’t hurt that I’ve made friends with a lot of the other “monsters” and human magic users.” He says simply. There is one more thing you want to ask him, you were avoiding it out of respect, but you honestly don’t think he gives a shit.

“What’s with all those crappy scrap sculptures out there? Is that your job?” He just looks at you for a minute, and then laughs solidly for a good three minutes.

“He-hahaha, oh god.” He manages to get out while wiping off what looks like a tear from the coner of his eye. “Yeah I make those scrappy pieces of shit, you wouldn’t believe how many people like them. Those red iron tube things on Kirby? I made those too. Ever since the mayor started her urban art campaign, I’ve been making some good money. It’s also kind of fun.” He finishes, his laughter finally dying down. “I wish I could make weapons and armor again, what good is an Oni-Smith who only makes art?” And there comes the laughter again, Oni-Smith?

“Where do you get this sake? My dad’s is shit compared to this.” You quickly ask before he starts laughing again.

“I get it from Japan, I’ve still got some family members there.”

“I’ll have to tell my dad to give you a call so you can order some for us.” You tell him and he laughs a bit more. “I’ve got one more question, for you. Actually make that two more.”

“Shoot.”

“What’s an Oni smith?” You ask, Trish looks back up from her cup to pay attention.

“An Oni-Smith is an Oni who’s trained in the ancient ways of forging steel. We can make weapons and armor that are far stronger than anything outside of dwarf make. Not much use for it nowadays though.” He says, a happy look on his face. “I miss it every now and again, you can hear the steel sing has you hammer.” If he’s serious about it being almost as good as Dwarven steel…. The Dwarven high clans were stupidly wealthy from selling their steel to humans to use in construction.

“And the last question?” He asks, raising a bushy eyebrow.

“Do you think I could come here again? It’s kind of cool talking to someone about this.”

“I’d like to be able to comeback too.” Trish says almost a second after you. “This stuff is really really cool.” Kondo looks at the both of you like you’re insane, it’s pretty much the same look Trish was giving you and Kondo when you were insulting each other.

“I’ve got no idea why two pretty girls would want to hang around an old fuck like me, but hell I ain’t gonna complain.” He tells you starting to laugh again. “The next time you come around maybe we can knock the shit out of each other? Hahahaha, but not tonight. It’s getting late and you two probably have school tomorrow.” He was right of course, it was Thursday and tomorrow was the last day of the week.

After a few more pleasantries (and insults), you and Trish went back down the long dirt driveway and piled back into her Suburban. It was pretty amazing her car wasn’t molested, especially in this neighborhood. The sky was already dark, it was getting close to 8 o’clock and the roads were starting to clear out. For a while you and Trish sat in relative silence, she was probably doing the same thing you were, processing everything you learned today.

“Hey Amy?”

“Yeah?”

“I think I’m going to look into some more stuff about magic.” She tells you, looking at the road. “It’s funny that I’ve been your friend for this long and it’s never occurred to me how much is really out there. You know what I mean?”

“I’d suggest that you look other places than 4chin.” You tell her as she hits your arm, you can’t help but smile. “No but seriously Trish… It's funny that I've been ME this long and it's never occurred to me to find out more about what's out there. But, Trish, be careful, okay? I'm willing to bet there are things out there that don't want to be found out about. Don't put yourself in harm's way over me.” You tell her seriously, she looks into your eyes for a second before going back to the road.

“It’s not just about you, I want to know what I’m capable of. You know? I want to see if there’s anything out there for me.”

“I can understand that, just don’t go sacrificing virgins to summon a demon.” You tell her only half-jokingly. She just rolls her eyes at you.

---

It’s about 7:30 when you finally manage to get home. You say bye to Trish, eat dinner with your dad, and then do the rest of you evening routine. You told your dad about where you went today, he seemed to be pretty supportive about you learning about yourself. But now it’s late and you’re in your room and you can’t seem to sleep. Everything that’s been happening these last few days are swimming around in your head. You need to do something to focus.

You take a deep breath and assume the lotus position on your bed. It’s amazing how calming this is, just losing touch with the world and opening the void.

In

Out

In

Out

The void is empty, its absence is its presence. From nothing comes everything, and everything returns to nothing. But… Something is coming out of nothing, the image from last night is starting to appear again. Its presence in the void troubles you. Then you understand, it’s not coming from the void, it’s coming from you. The void is showing you yourself, it’s refining you, like metal from earth. You can feel the energy surrounding you, no. Not surrounding you, coming from you. The energy is swirling all around you. How could you not feel this before? You reach out to the energy, and it reaches back to you.
Your body jolts as your eyes open revealing your room, you saw the image clearly.

The image was thunder reverberating off your body, the beat of Raijin’s drums echo in your mind. Such power could crush any foe, fell armies and conquer lands. You reach out to the energy the flows from your body, and it reaches back. You can feel it flow across your form, it penetrates your entire being.
It feels fucking amazing

(5/5 pp remaining)

You think about the image that was shown to you the crash of thunder, booming across the entire planet. The power is yours to command. You quickly walk down the stairs, avoiding the last step. Your mom is still up, watching TV. You silently avoid her and slip out the back door into the backyard. Time to test this power out. You reach out to the energy and try to turn it into thunder…. Nothing
Shit, what the hell do you have to do to get some thunder? You try everything, waving your hands around, jumping up and down, meditating and even shouting like the guy from Skyrim. Fucking nothing.
Okay, maybe you have to do something like in the Japanese myths? Thunder in Japanese myths was the sound of Raijin’s drums, maybe you have to drum? You don’t exactly have anything to drum on though…

Except for yourself

You stick both arms out as you reach out to the energy in your body again, then you slam both hands onto your abdomen.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

The peal of thunder echoes across the entire neighborhood, as everything around you is suddenly thrown back with immense force. You look at the ground, every blade of grass in a twenty foot radius has been uprooted. The dirt splattered across three different houses.

(Power unlocked: Thunder shockwave, instantly repel everything in a sudden explosion of force and sound. Range 20 feet in a perfect circle. Remaining pp 0/5)

Fucking Awesome

“AMY! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING OU THERE?” And that was mom.

As far as the thunder goes, Shockwave is the first skill in that tree, you can keep focusing on this tree to get better powers and control, and refine the techniques you have. Or you can try out other trees, nothing is locked out. There's even going to be another option to take this one's place on the list next time, it opens up another tree.
