Essential stats: http://pastebin.com/jsfxVKt7You stand and call out to the mountain god, raising your staff in the air. The mountain god turns with surprising speed and smashes a fist down with a roar. The slope you're on trembles and shakes, sending Ebba tumbling down amid a shower of stones and dirt. You lunge forward, grabbing her with magic and hands both, but the movement only causes you to lose your footing, sending you falling after her. You pull your daughter in close, shielding her with your body as you both bounce and tumble down the steep side of the mountain. Your daughter is kept mostly safe in your arms, but you feel the unyielding earth batter your body, bruising you as you bounce off stones and the rolling terrain.Looks like Enki was a little jumpy. Odd... Whatever's got him riled up, it must have him VERY angry indeed.Your staff slips from your hands as you hurtle down the hillside, clattering away to land by itself. Small rocks and dirt rain down around you, pelting your skin and leaving small cuts and scrapes everywhere, but the worst of it comes as you bounce off a large, sharply-edged rock that protrudes from the ground. There's a muted crunch as you bounce off it and you grunt in pain as you feel something in your chest give way. Finally however, you slow to stop at the bottom, amid a cloud of dust and small stones.
>>45361825>A cracked rib has slowed you down and drained your stamina. Lose 1 Strength until it is treated or you recover."Are you alright?" you ask the young woman curled up in your arms.Ebba nods and stands, trembling a little. "I'm a bit shaken up," she admits, "But I'm fine." As she goes in search of your staff, the low thudding of heavy footfalls alerts you to Enki's presence."Thought you sky-god or storm-god come again," he rumbles, bowing his great, stony head a little. "See now you are Human-Trym. I mean you no harm. Why you come to mountains? Humans give good offering - I send no landslide or harm. Not fight near humans.""The waters of Nila's river have stopped flowing," you explain, holding your ribs. It doesn't feel too bad; should heal well if you give it enough rest and maybe a little magic. "Without them, everything in the valley would whither and die and my people will suffer. The river is fed from these mountains. Do you know what could have caused the waters to weaken and stop so?""I know very well," Enki replies. "No rain. Mountains flow all rain into streams. Streams make river. River falls to Nila. But no rain in the mountains means no river. The Storm-god brings only wind and lightning now, as Sky-god tells him.""Why's that?" you ask, frowning, as Ebba brings you your staff. It seems none the worse the wear for its fall and comes as great relief as you lean on it.Enki knocks his two great fists together with the distinctive sound of boulders smashing against one another. "Sky-god and I feud. Argument leads to argument and to fight. Always same. Now, he sends Storm-god to fight. Storm-god is strong and violent. Smashes mountains and I fight back. No rain until storm brings it. Cannot help. Nila will be weak while I fight."
>>45361841This is bad news. Who knows how long a fight like this could go on for? And all that time, only the meager trickle of mountain springs will feed Nila's pool and the river. If the sun continues to be so hot in the summer, she could die before Enki and this Sky god resolved their differences. What will you do?>Offer to speak on Enki's behalf>Seek out this sky god to hear his side>Offer to aid Enki in a fight against the storm god>Tell Enki to submit and end the fighting>Other

"The longer this conflict goes on, the greater the harm to my people and to the goddess I love," you frown. "This feud needs to end as fast as possible; nothing can live without water.""I do not do things 'fast'," Enki grumbles. "Nor do I change my path once I am set upon it."You wrack your brains for a moment. As stubbornness goes, Enki is as utterly unmovable as the mountains he embodies, but perhaps... "What if I end it for you?" you ask. "I will speak on your behalf to the gods of storm and sky and reach an agreement. I will first need to hear their side however.""Why?" Enki grunts, tapping his hoary knuckles on the slope. "Sky-god and I fight. Always have. Only since we take form like human has it changed.""Still, I will hear his argument against you first and then I will see if I can find a way for you both to be satisfied. Will this do, Great Enki the Unmovable?" Appealing to a god's pride by adding a little flattery to their name always works wonders and indeed, even though you can't see how a walking cliff-face like Enki would even breathe, he puffs out his chest a little at your words."So be it. But if you not find way to make I happy, I will break your houses." The deep, shadowy crags that mark his eyes glint with a hidden menace, "So humans learn not to put hands in Gods affairs.""Your terms are fair," you nod, a bead of cold sweat running down your neck. You had almost forgotten what it meant to treat with a god, given how reasonable they've been of late. "Come on, Ebba. Where might we find the gods of Sky and Storm?"Enki raises a hand and points at the tallest mountain you can see nearby. About its peak, storm clouds gather once again. "There. They attack mountains, try to tear down. I chase away, they return. Now I not chase away. They see you come and stop... Probably."
>>45363056I will fucking destroy everything you love.>>45362966You know, maybe I should have a poll for where people are from... See if there's a better time to run this...>>45363103You and Ebba make your way towards the towering mountain, which only seems to loom over you more and more as approach. The sides are cragged and broken, lashed by wind and rain and the scourge of lightning. If there were ever any easy paths up its steep sides, they have long since been obliterated, forcing you to climb often on your hands and knees up banks of loose scree and unyielding stone alike, marked only by the desiccated remains of once-resilient bushes that clung to the mountain's sides. Even the very birds that once made this mountainside their home have fled the divine battle that was waged over and across their nests. The higher you go, the more you are assaulted by the wind that threatens to hurl you from the mountainside, if you leave the relative shelter of the cracks and crevices. Rain soaks you to the skin, saturating even the slick furs you wear and even with your sightless eyes, the peals of thunder and the crash of lightning still set your hair standing on end. Suddenly, you feel that not all is right. Reaching back with your touch-sight, you find that Ebba, your usually stoic daughter, has stopped still, clinging to the dead wood of a small shrub. The clash of the elements has become too much even for her and to make matters worse, you are fast losing the light. What will you do?>Send Ebba back and go on alone>Try to encourage Ebba to have courage and move on 3d10+12 (Charisma +Leader)>Stop here with her and try to find shelter for the night>Call out to the gods to have mercy>Other

You reach out, clasping Ebba's hand in yours and turn your gaze towards the heavens. "STOP!" You cry out, but your voice is snatched by the wind and torn into a dozen pieces before it has gone a hand's span from you. "Gods of Storm and Sky, cease! I come to talk! I am Trym the godspeaker, shaman of my tribe! I come in the name of Enki the mountain god to speak with you!"By degrees, the storm's fury fades. The lightning and thunder abates and though you are still soaked, the rain slows to a light drizzle and finally abates, as the wind drops to a breeze. Ebba breathes a sigh of relief and then gasps."Da-! The clouds-! They're forming around us-! And lightning flows through them!"You can feel them do just that, but far from the ethereal mist you would have thought a cloud was formed from, you can feel them solidify, like a cushion of spongy moss; giving, but solid after it is compacted. At least you need have no fear of falling then, with this plateau around you."Da, they're hear," Ebba informs you. You can feel the gods draw near, as your daughter describes them. "One is tall and fair-faced, but looks down on us. His eyes are burning blue and starlight... The other's form I can't see; it's covered in clouds and flashes of thunder... He twitches though, as if nervous or full of energy- Wait... No, it's a woman! Da, the god of storms is a goddess!""Very clever to see," snorts a female voice, broad and tense, as if offended. "Perhaps next she shall tell you that the rocks are hard, or that trees burn in the dry season, when I strike them with lightning?""Hush," says the other, already sounding bored. "Human, I know of you. Trym the godspeaker; the shaman who scarred himself when he did not listen. At least since then you've learned at least a little wisdom. Why do you call on me? The mountain god has not yet bowed his head, so I have nothing to say to one who speaks 'in his name'."
>>45365687"I come to hear your side," you explain. "Forgive me, but I do not know your name..?""I am Tengr," he replies with a superior smirk. "Named by those far, far from here. Yet my servant does not have a name. Perhaps you will give her one? Yes, I'd like that very much... Enki has a name, yet my favourite does not? That will not do. But what do you mean, you come to hear my side?""Enki would have us believe he is the injured one here," you explain, glancing at your daughter as she nods in confirmation. "That you have somehow given insult. I do not believe that one person in an argument will ever tell the whole truth, so I come to ask what you say of this feud.""That boulder would have you believe HE is insulted?" scoffs the sky god, "That goes too far! HE insults ME! Every day he insults me, as these mountains stand and it has become worse since you humans taught him how to speak! His mountains bite at my sky and he claims they will some day reach me! I, who am above all other things on the world and who stands between the stars and moon and sun and the world, as it should be! What Enki desires goes against the way everything has been since the first days! He has always been like this.""So you know now why I seek to smash his stone spines," snaps the storm goddess, "Tengr tells me to and I listen, for without the sky, there are no storms, no wind and rain and the crash and the brightness! So I shatter the stones and I howl and rattle them... But the mountains take much to wear down. So what do YOU have to say for Enki? Does he bow his head at last to what should be?"What will you say?>Enki will bow his head and submit>You are wrong to trample on another's ambitions! 3d10 (Charisma)>Offer to try and find a compromise that leaves them both happy>Play to Tengr's pride and get him to relent>Other

The mountains grow so slow and the sky is so tall, how could he hope to reach you. All mountains must have sky above them and the storms drop snow on all peaks equally. I shall name your favored servant and I beg of you drop this quarrel. The arguement has far reaching tremors and because of it the River Goddess Nila, who sustains my village and gives us life, has her river dying. >>45365862>Play to Tengr's pride and get him to relentI was going to type something, but let's go with this>>45366008Maybe mention that squabbling over futile hopes is not becoming of one so important.
>>45366008wow yeah lets do this instead.
>>45365862The sky is endless, and there is only so much rock to be made into mountains. How could he ever hope to reach you? What would bring you more esteem? To stop someone so far below you, or to ignore him, allow him to do all that he can, and have him still fail? Let him try, I say. To us mortals, we consider it a weakness to beat on someone so far below before they even have a chance to rise up to us. Surely one so glorious as yourself is not less noble than us mere humans? Leave him be, and bring the rains back. If he ever gets close, allow this feud to resume, when he is a worthy challenge to you.Obviously, we just tell Enki he's decided to allow him to build his strength in order for the battle to be more glorious. Also, for storm goddess, Haikr. Dunno why. Just picked some syllables, but I think it sounds cool. Also, when are we gonna fuck storm goddess?

>>45368077No, it'll be conquering Nila's assailant.
You have to fight to keep a sly smirk off your face. Tengr's pride makes him easy to read and perhaps just as easy to manipulate."To be honest, O Vast One Who's Ends do not Touch the Earth but Surpasses Her, I am surprised at the argument over so small a thing. The mountains grow so slow and the sky is so tall, how could Enki hope to reach you?" Your sudden flattery takes the pair off-guard, if their silence is anything to go by, so you take the chance to continue. "All mountains must have sky above them and the storms drop snow on all peaks equally, great and small. I beg of you, disregard this petty quarrel; it's beneath you, if you'll pardon the joke."Tengr chuckles at that and nods slowly. "Go on... Your words do have a ring of wisdom to them...""I only mean to say that the sky is endless," you shrug, as if the truth was self-evident, "And Enki only has so much rock to make into mountains. How could he ever even hope to touch the sky? If anything, his futile efforts only serve to magnify your glory!"THAT got Tengr's attention alright. You have no idea how powerful he truly is, but he has arrogance enough for Lugal, Ulh and Soqed combined!"I beg of you, O might god of the infinite sky, to end this quarrel. The argument has far-reaching tremors also; the river goddess, Nila, who sustains my village and people, suffers and dies for lack of the rains that in happier times would feed her river. She is dying, O Tengr the magnificent and it lies only in your hands to save her and the mortals that rely on her. I ask only that you let Enki strive and watch as his efforts are surpassed by you, just as they always shall be."Tengr is silent for a while, considering, before he replies, his voice quiet and thoughtful. "You will name my servant first.""With pleasure," you nod. "Goddess of Storms, Favoured of the Sky and Bringer Of The Tempest Which Clears Old Air For The New. I name you Haikr and honour you as you deserve."
>>45368353Fucking great, I actually burst out laughing picturing that in my head(also captcha keeps asking for mountains, is this a warning?)
>>45368353Okay. Cool. Now we gotta brainstorm (heheh) how to spin this so Enki thinks he's coming out on top
>>45368353"Haikr..." she rolls the word over on her tongue for a while, before a grin enters her voice and she nods. "I can live with that. It fits.""And," Tengr continues, "Because it is my kind gesture that will allow your people to live again, you will see to it that I am honoured for it. More than an altar, I want you to dedicate a space to me and only to me. It needn't be large, but it should be under the open sky. Hang charms their and feathers too; tokens that evoke the sky. It will be there that you will make offerings to me and if I see fit, I will extend my blessing. You have a good tongue, Trym, but now let us see if you can use your wit and hands."He waves a hand and the clouds beneath you begin to thin little-by-little. "Tell Enki that he can build his mountains as high as he wishes, until he grows tired of his foolishness. I will be satisfied to laugh at him until he recognises his limitations.""If ever you need a storm," Haikr adds, as she and Tengr begin to leave, "If you seek wind and rain, only bang drums and call out. I'll answer. Maybe."And with that, you and Ebba are left on the side of the mountain, the sun setting just over the clear horizon.
>>45368579It's hard to tell with Enki's reserved manner, but after you tell him the news the following day (in an appropriately diplomatic manner, of course), he seems happy enough."Then I build. Enjoy seeing Sky-God sad and angry when mountains touch sky. No more fight. Rain come, wash to Nila."It'll take some time before Nila has fully recovered, but Sakarya tells you that the moment Nila has recovered, she will want to thank you for all that you have done. The journey back is only slightly blighted by the fact that you can't stop shaking with cold. That night on the mountain, with your clothes soaked and the chilly wind just won't leave you. Ebba, used to spending her time cool and wet from the river, seems less effected at least.By the time you arrive back at village, the rains have finally come down from the mountains. Maybe I'm just being blind, but I can't really see a clear winner hereWith winter fast closing, you suspect your chill is only going to get worse. You're still a healthy man, but between the inexorable march of time, the pain from your cracked rib draining your strength and the shakes that constantly wrack your body, drawing you close to the fire, you think it's best not to risk it. You take care of yourself, subtly using magic to help your body recover. The only time you leave the house is to attend the required ceremony to make your offering to Soqed. Again, the wolf god appears in person to take the meat and tells you that Sera is learning well, but still has much progress to make before he is satisfied she has learned everything she needs. The harvest this year was good. Your share is 36 grain. As the year starts to turn to winter, Ebba fines you and tells you that the river has started to rise again. "Ma's getting better. Not many of the clan have accepted them, but there's still a feeling that it's a bad idea to snub the gods... You ask Elia if he needs any further help with what he's been working on all year, but he just shakes his head. "No, but thank you for the offer, brother. It's nearly finished.
