You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.
Previously you and Pandora had a lengthy discussion about her brother, Ares. She was understandably upset at first, but you eventually managed to get her to discuss the possibility of meeting him, to which she asked that she could, wanting to discern for herself if he posed any real threat to her or anyone else in the Facility.
Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

You lazily get out of bed, almost forgetting to turn off the alarm as you do. Yesterday was a bit stressful, a bit of a relief, but mostly eye-opening. Pandora wants to meet her brother, which is a a major step forward in her trusting that he means her, nor anyone else any harm. You're unsure how he'll react to her, but he hasn't given any indication that it would be met negatively.

You think to yourself you've been neglecting two things recently with all that's been going on, what with Ares' creation and Pandora's hatred of that fact; a decent meal and a woman whom you were supposed to take on a date weeks ago. It's about time you fixed that and you send a rapid text to Babsy about getting some breakfast. You receive a reply almost instantly agreeing. You secretly envy the cyborg's cranial implant sometimes. But no time to focus on the pros and cons of being half machine, you have food to eat and words to stumble over!

You hastily get washed and ready, doing your best to keep that one troublesome hair to stay in line through vigorous combing, then make your way out the door, materials in hand. The atmosphere around the Facility is quiet and much more relaxed than it has been the last few weeks; no chatter between the large number of security, no thunking and clanking of heavy boxes being pushed around, no whirring, buzzing and shouting as Ares' room is prepped. You didn't realize just how much you missed the peace. That is until you make it to the mess hall and see Babsy looking as unfairly attractive as ever. You briefly consider saying something suave, but then remember you don't have a smooth bone in your body and opt with a standard "hi".

"I was beginning to think you'd forgotten about me, doctor." Babsy says, laughing.

"Y-yeah, sorry," you reply sheepishly, "thing's have been hectic." You shrug helplessly.

You make idle chatter as you wait in line, noticing a few sideways glances from other staff, primarily males, quite possibly cursing you for hanging out with the cute girl. You consider this a victory and are silently proud.

While it's not exactly a date by any sense of the word, you still wouldn't mind finding a nice quiet spot to talk with your crush. You spot a table in the corner of the room currently unoccupied and make a beeline for it. A somewhat small, jumpy-looking man you think is one of the grounds-keeping staff is about to make his way to the table, but a quick angry stare from you makes him immediately turn and sit with a group of rather confused nurses.

As you make yourself comfortable at the table, you notice Babsy seems to be a little preoccupied with something, a concerned look on her face, her metallic hands idly tapping on her legs.

"Something wrong?" you ask, attempting to make eye contact.

"Mm? Oh, sorry." Babsy shakes her head, "Something just hasn't been adding up lately. Checking some time tables and schedules and some of our team have been working strange hours. Mouse says she doesn't remember setting those hours, but she also doesn't remember what color knickers she has on half the time, so that doesn't really tell me much. She doesn't seem too worried by it, sometimes we have to clock a few extra hours to get projects done on time, but this just doesn't seem normal even by our standards." she waves it off, shaking her head again, "Nevermind that, sorry. Unimportant, just odd.

You're not exactly an expert on scheduling considering you've delegated all your scheduling duties (which is technically against the rules) to one of your team. No complaints yet, so you assume they're doing a well enough. But still, if it has one of R&D worried, maybe it is cause for concern, they aren't exactly known for worrying about working too much. You even suspect they have some unknown room they use to sleep in between shifts.

"Well, err, I'm sure you'll get it worked out?" you try to reassure her. To be honest, you're not really sure what you could do or say to help that situation. You are largely ignorant of the inner workings of the R&D department.

"Just one of those things, you know." she says after a sip of coffee, "One little hiccup in the cogs and the whole machine gets out of whack." You nod, knowing full and well how that is.

"Well, ah..." you muster up a little courage, but still speak in a slightly lowered tone, "A-about that date...thing..."

"Oh my goodness!" Babsy looks genuinely surprised, "I had completely forgotten! I'm so sorry, things have just gotten in the way and...oh, I must sound terrible!" she has a sad look on her face, but you don't care because she's currently resting one of her hands on yours at the moment.

"It's...I, uh..." you've been working with this woman for this long and you still can barely manage a sentence when you speak to her about anything but work. "No, it's alright! I was just thinking that...y'know...now that everything's calmed down...and...I mean...there's some free time..." Pull yourself together, you have more PhDs than some people have pairs of pants.

"Absolutely!" Babsy says, almost overjoyed at the prospect. You mentally cheer. "When? What should we do? Do you think they'd grant us leave if we requested it?" She mulls this over for a bit.

"I'll see if the general will give us some R&R time off site." you say, "I mean, he'd probably agree to it considering how happy he is with Ares." You silently think about that grant check he gave you and still aren't sure what you should do with it. Something to think about, at least.

"I saw your talk with Pandora about Ares." Babsy has a concerned look on her face, "Are you sure them meeting is a good thing? What if there's sibling rivalry or if Pandora has another...ah, tantrum over it? Or worse, what if Ares does? We're still a little in the dark about his personality and thought process."

"She said she wanted to," you reply, swallowing a mouthful of rubbery eggs, "and I think she's matured enough to make those kinds of decisions for herself. Besides, it could really help her come to accept it if she meets him face to face. They might get along and become friends."

Babsy scoffs slightly. "You didn't have any siblings as a boy, did you? Breaking up fights on a daily basis was pretty much half my job as a big sister. But, I suppose I see your point. I just hope you're right. Hopefully both of them come out of this wiser for it." You nod in agreement.

You say your goodbyes (begrudgingly) and part ways, promising Babsy to let her know what the general says once you get a chance to talk to him. You mentally cross your fingers at this considering you don't recall ever being told of any leave time when you signed up for this.

You make your way to Ares' room, walking past several posted guards that give you sideways glances, but say nothing. They might be a little unhappy about you being the reason they have to guard a door one person in the whole Facility uses, or maybe because of Babsy, or maybe just because. You never know with those guys, but you'd personally rather not anyway. The heavy doors clunking loudly tell you this thought will have to wait.

You enter the large, featureless room and make your way to the cold, grey interior of the charging room and begin the wakeup procedure, doing a few checks on Ares' specs to make sure everything is alright and there are no issues like Pandora had. The last thing you need is a walking arsenal with night terrors. Thankfully everything checks out and you breathe a sigh of relief. Ares wakes with no problems and gives you his customary stiff salute.

"Sir." the android says sternly, standing at attention as he awaits his orders.

You decide now's a good time to figure out how Ares reacts to stimuli that don't involve weapons or military maneuvers and set up your laptop. You ask him what he's interested in learning about. A question he doesn't quite grasp easily as before, but after some explanation as to what you mean, he asks about Pandora. More specifically, what it means to be family. Better yet, what family is. You gladly show him some informative pages on family, siblings and the relationship between them. He becomes entranced by this.

"Was I born?" Ares asks, reading a page about infancy and the impact of new babies on children.

"Not exactly." you tell him, "Not in the sense you're thinking, anyway. You were built, but your coding and frame were all built off similar bases to Pandora, by myself and several teams here at the Facility. So was she."

"Does that make you my..." he pauses to reread part of the article again, "father, then? The male parent is a father, right?"

"Well, uh..." you're not really sure how to answer this question, but you figure a little familiar ties couldn't hurt, especially considering you consider Pandora to be like the metallic daughter you never had. "Yeah, I suppose you can consider me that. You were born of my work and research. I suppose that's similar to what a father is."

Ares ponders this for a moment. "My father...so...I have family? You and Pandora. You are my family?"

You shrug. "Yeah, I guess so. A little unconditional for a family, but a family nonetheless."

Ares, in a most uncharacteristic action, smiles at this. "Family..." he says quietly to himself, smile ever-present. "I...think I like that. Having a family." That went better than expected.

"Do I have a mother, then?" Ares asks, the smile widening more as he thinks about it. "It said most families have two parents, a mother and a father. Do I have a mother, too?"

You shrug helplessly, "Your circumstances are a little unique, so unfortunately the answer is a little vague itself."

"Oh..." Ares looks back at the screen. You can tell he's a little disappointed you have no straight answer to give him. You feel a little sad about not being able to give him what he wanted.

"Hey, not every family has two parents, you know. Lots of families only have one parent!" You try your best to console him. He doesn't seem too interested.

You figure if Ares is going to do any kind of meeting, he'd best brush up on his social interaction. Especially if he'll have to walk on eggshells around an obviously unhappy Pandora. You carefully fish out some of Pandora's old homework and hand it to him, instructing him to read it carefully and do his best to answer some of the questions himself. Maybe that might help, though she's had considerably more experience with it.

In the meantime, you send a message to Richards asking about the two androids possibly meeting, allowing them to interact and perhaps even form some form of bond. You inform him both have expressed interest in doing so, so it might be for the best if they did.
You get a short response back several minutes later.

Gen. Richards: Too busy to talk about touchy feely shit right now.
