Your name is Amy Nakamura, a 17 year old void Oni, and you’re in deep shit. You have a little less than two hours before you have to explain to your mom why you got into a fight with a bunch of faerie gangbangers. You’ll also probably have to explain why your clothes are ruined too. Oh, and how you got stabbed, she’ll probably be bothered by that. After telling your dad about what happened tonight, he made sure you drank three cans of beer to speed up your healing. You probably would’ve been fine with one, but he insisted. After dinner, which was pretty quiet, you took a shower and retreated to your room to do your homework and wait for mom to come home. Now that you’re cleaned up and your homework is done you really don’t have much to do. You could text Trish about what happened, you could watch Netflix on your laptop, you could meditate for a while or you could read a book from your medium sized bookcase. Truly the world is at your fingertips, at least until your mom has to scold (yell at) you. Goddamn this night has been a mess, you really just wish that it was tomorrow already. In all honesty you’d probably be asleep already but your mom works late.

Because human magic =/= monster magic.
>>
>>45237347
Yeah but Ami is a girl.
Girls put necklaces on each other all the time as kids. My sister once had her neck turn green cause her BFF gave her a cheap necklace and she wore it all day.

How has this not happened before?
>>
>>45237613
Perhaps because the emotions you feel for a parent or a friend are not the same as the momentary twinge of immense gratitude you feel for someone who just saved your life?
>>
Telling Trish everything it is, writing.
>>
>>45237613
Presumably it has to be an object specifically made to restrain an individual which is also enchanted by magic.
>>
>>45237582
But odds are they would have monster classes to, and with Cali's supposedly large Asian population maybe an oni or two that could have taught Amy.

And we don't know that about magic.
>>
>>45237613
Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I mean surely someone has put a choker on Ami before.
>>45237665
Maybe...just maybe... this universe doesn't have a Wizarding school. Besides wizards are more racist than the nazi members of the KKK.
>>
>>45237665
>But odds are they would have monster classes too
Why? Why are those the odds? There's nothing indicating that a school of human magic would decide to teach monsters. The masquerade is down in this world, remember.
>>
How about we open up a tor and blabber about it on /b. Something like: " Sup, /Brothers, there is a click, who is obviously a monstergirl. How do I chain her and make obedient slave. Monsterchaining thread go". Or we just could Google some binding myths/ rituals.
>>
Why Amy isn't in a sport club ? She can compete in any sports! Also it's a possible career since she has bad grades.
>>

>>
>>45237913
Maybe its because everyone in the sports clubs are massive douches?
>>
>>45237913
Evidently she does give a shit given that it's been implied she tries to keep it hidden and previous votes have supported that.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if there are rules against magical creatures competing in sports.

Also we need to post pictures of Oni or Japanese monsters so OP isn't stuck posting the same pic over and over for the OP.
>>
>>45238392
But you're supposed to post the same pic for the OP each time to make it the quest's face so it's easy to spot in the catalog.

>>45238417
What we really need to do is make a unique title card so we're not all stuck waiting for hours if, by some coincidence, someone else has posted that exact same image somewhere else just as OP is about to start a thread.

It could be as simple as slapping text over the image, or as complex as requesting a picture in the drawthread.

You look at the clock for a while, its slow ticking making you feel anxious. Oh man mom is going to be so pissed. Ok, breathe, that’s it Amy, let all of your worry empty away. You assume a lotus position and begin to focus. You empty your mind of idle thought, you let it flow into the void. The void is peace, the void is calm that is ruined by destruction. Your heartbeat slows, as does your breathing.

In

Out

In

Out

Then you begin to see something make its way out of the void. That’s unusual, the void doesn’t usually show things. Its purpose is to make other things be revealed, like metal being revealed from earth. It doesn’t create, it removes and strips. The image starts to become clearer… And then you hear the front door open. You immediately snap back to reality, you wonder what that image was?
Questions for later
What you need to be preoccupied with right now, is the sound of your mother’s footsteps coming up the stairs. Then you hear your door creak open. Chiasa Nakamura looks pretty much like the stereotype “Pretty Japanese woman”, she’s about 5’3’’ with pale skin and dark hair streaked with a little grey. She has a few smile and laugh lines around her eyes and mouth, but at the moment she’s not smiling. In fact she’s staring at you with the intensity of a thousand suns.

“H-hi mo-“

“BAKAYARO!!!.” You flinch as soon as your mom starts the first of many, many insults. One thought enters your head, ESCAPE. You quickly turn towards your window, but an iron grip catches your face and drags you back. Your mother’s face is an inch in front of yours and she’s making you hold eye contact with her.

“WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?” She asks, her accent made more obvious by her anger.
“No, wait, that’s not a fair question. BECAUSE YOU WEREN’T THINKING WERE YOU?” You wince, a bit at the accusation.

“Mom I-“

“NO, I’M NOT DONE YET! Not only do you pick a fight with a bunch of faeries, they just had to be faeries from one of the most dangerous gangs in the South.” She sighs and sits next to you on the bed. “Why was your first thought to fight them? Did you even try to talk first? Or even think about calling the police?” She finishes wrapping her arms around as much of you as she can, and leaning on you.

"I DID try talking with them, they’re the ones who started the fight in the first place. I stripped their glamour and confronted them. They started the fight after they said they wouldn’t leave the kid alone. If I had just left, who knows what they would’ve done with him. You and dad raised me better than to just leave someone who’s in danger alone like that.” Your mom sighs again, and looks down.

“Let me see it, let me see where they stabbed you.” She asks before physically stripping your shirt off of you. You feel her hands move down your back, she pauses when she gets to where the wound was. You know that by now there should be little more than a scar, which would also be gone by tomorrow afternoon. Her fingers linger there for a moment, before she turns you around and puts your shirt back on you. She meets your gaze, and you notice that there are tears starting to form in her eyes.

“When your dad called me at work and told me what happened I was so worried.” She sniffs loudly then takes another breath. “You still could’ve called the police.”

“Mom, you know that the cops would’ve just shown up late.” You protest, letting your mom hold you again.

“I just…. I just can’t imagine seeing you in the hospital. I don’t want to see you hurt, I don’t want you to keep fighting, because one of these days I know you’ll get hurt and I won’t be able to protect you. When I got the call from your father I was still on shift, it was so easy to see you in the emergency room. I was so scared, so scared that I’d lose you.” She says sobbing a little at the end.

You grip your mom in a tight hug as she cries softly against your shoulder. You haven’t seen your mom cry in a very long time, she must’ve been incredibly worried.

“It’s alright mom, I’m not going anywhere. I’m okay, I’m okay.” You whisper to her as your shoulder grows increasingly wet.
After a little while she stops, but doesn’t move from your arms.

“It’s funny, I remember doing this for you when you were upset. It seems like such a long time ago now.” Your mom muses softly. She stays quiet for a minute or two before pulling herself out of your hug. “Can you promise me to be a bit more careful in the future?” She says, smiling a little.

“I can try.” You respond, you really don’t want to see your mom like this again.

“Okay, I guess that’s the best I’m going to get.” She replies while chuckling. “Now go to sleep, you have school in the morning. Your mother is going to have a glass of wine and watch Grey’s Anatomy before going to bed.” She says as you laugh. She kisses you forehead before she leaves the room. You turn out your light and lay down looking at the ceiling.

That went surprisingly well

I think Trish's house won, writing
>>
School was rather un-eventful the next day, you even managed to stay awake despite how long you stayed awake the night before. Even Cindy and her crew were quiet, they stopped bothering Trish as well. You don’t buy it though, they’re probably planning something to get back at you. You and Trish hung out at lunch as usual, but she was quieter than usual. Turned out she stayed up late googling facts about Oni in preparation for your info gathering today. You decided who would do the driving today in the usual way, rock-paper-scissors. You ended up winning so Trish had to drive you everywhere, luckily her suburban was nice and roomy, even if it ate gas like a RV.

Trish’s house was a pretty typical two-story, it was actually incredibly similar to you own house except it had one extra bedroom. As you walked into the house you were greeted with an amazing smell, Trish’s mom must’ve started cooking dinner. Your trip through the living room made you walk right past Mr. Nguyen, who was reading the newspaper. He lowered it slightly to look at you, Thao Nguyen was a shrewd looking man, besides that he was pretty typical looking. The only really distinctive trait he had were his large 70s style glasses. He met your gaze briefly before talking to Trish in rapid-fire Vietnamese. Past the living room and into the kitchen you saw Caroline Nguyen cooking. She and her husband were completely different. She completely looked the part of an older southern matron, complete with graying blonde hair and thick accent. She was also rather stout, which didn’t stop her from giving the strongest hugs you’d ever been subjected to. As she looked up from her cooking your gazes met and she lit up the room with a bright smile.

“Trisha, you didn’t tell me you were bringing Amy over, I would’ve made more for supper.” Which was a lie, she still made enough food for four people, despite Trish’s older brother moving out a few years ago.

>>
>>45244175

“I didn’t tell you because she won’t be staying over for very long. We’re heading out in an hour or two.” Trish says, stopping her discussion with her dad.

“Oh phooey, you know that’s not the point.” Caroline insists as she walks over and hugs you. “How’re you doing dear?” She asks while breaking your spine.

“N-never better Mrs. Nguyen.” You manage to croak out. Unfortunately for her mother, Trish was getting impatient.

“You’ll have time to catch up with her later mom, we have stuff to do.” Trish says dragging you out of Mrs. Nguyen’s embrace and up the stairs to her room. Which was the same as you last saw it, anime posters everywhere, clothes littered on the floor and containing Trish’s command center. It consisted of three monitors and two different computers.

“Alright let’s get to work. We need to find out as much as we can before something stupid happens again.” Trish states as she sits in her desk chair. You take a seat on the floor next to her, still able to see both monitors.

“Alright here’s what I managed to find online last night.” Trish says as she pulls up multiple pages from what looks like mythology sites. “A lot of it was stuff that you already knew, massive strength, drink sake, 5 elements yadda yadda. The only one that mentions a “Bond” is this one.” She says, pulling up a page from the monitor on her left. “BUUUT, it only has very vague information.” You get up and look over her shoulder to read it. Yep, she’s right. The page only has the loosest definitions of the bond, nothing super concrete. You sit back down and muss up your hair in frustration.

“If that’s all we can find then we’re screwed, as far as the internet goes.” You say, right before Trish flicks your forehead.

“Idiot, who said we’re done? All I have to do is look up the guy who wrote this page and we can see if he’s written anything else.” Trish says with a bit of irritation coloring her voice.
“And you’re sure that’ll work?” You ask a bit skeptically as you rub your forehead. Trish just adopts a smug grin.

“WHEN it works you’ll owe me lunch for the whole month.”
“That sounds fair.” You reply, you already give her lunch most of the time anyway.

About thirty minutes later Trish lets out a victorious whoop.

“Hah, look at this.” She says trying to lift you up so you can see better. It looks like she actually found something. According to this new page the “Chain” doesn’t actually have to be an actual chain, it merely has to be an object that can wrap around some-place visible on your body. It can be a ribbon, prayer beads etc.

(Cont.)

>>45245417

“Wow that actually is something new, good job Trish.” You say as you tussle her hair affectionately, she doesn’t even get mad this time. Trish just sits in her chair with the smuggest possible grin she can make.

“Remember, lunch for a month.”

“Yeah yeah.” You say stretching your arms and back as you stand fully upright. “Is that all you could find?” You ask your diminutive friend.

“If you gave me some more time I could probably find some more, or we could just go see your grandpa. Your choice.” She says looking up at you.

“I think we should go see Grandfather, even if he doesn’t have anything new to tell us he can tell us how he learned it.” You tell Trish as you open the bedroom door.

“Makes sense to me.” Trish says as she shrugs and follows you out the door. You wave to Mrs. Nguyen as you leave, increasing your pace so you can escape before she hugs you again. The drive to Grandfather’s nursing home is pretty quiet, the traffic still sucks though. You make it there about 5:15, plenty of time. You walk into the main lobby and ask the lady at the front desk where your Grandfather is, he’s probably in his room, but you want to make sure. As you wait for the receptionist to get back, you notice that Trish is looking around and wrinkling her nose.

“You know it’s rude to make faces, right?” You ask your friend as she continues to scrunch up her face.

“It’s just that this place, smells weird alright. It smells like someone opened a can of discount air-freshener and let it get into everything.” You can’t deny that, the place does smell …..Flowery. But you’ve gotten pretty used to it from visiting Grandfather. A minute or two later the receptionist comes back.
>>
>>45246515

“Your Grandfather is relaxing in the courtyard, right this way.” She says with obviously fake-cheer in her voice. You follow her to the small courtyard, a few ancient oak trees provide shade from the intense sun. Even in winter Houston could get uncomfortably hot. Within minutes you see Grandfather sitting on a bench, apparently dozing off. You and Trish approach him quietly so as not to wake him up to suddenly.

“Grandfather, it’s me Amy, I’m here to talk to you. I brought Trisha with me as well.” You say as you gently shake his shoulder. Your Grandfather’s eyes open slowly, as he turns to look at you and Trish. When his eyes fully open he smiles. Takahiro Sugiyama was still rather handsome at over 80 years of age. His smile and eyes were as bright as man 40 years younger.

“Why if it isn’t my favorite granddaughter and her best friend. Why did you come to talk to an old fossil like me?” You giggle a bit at his words, of course you’re his favorite granddaughter, you’re his only one.

Alright I'm back and writing.
>>
“Oh esteemed elder, we beseech you, let us partake in your wisdom.” Trish says bowing slightly. Grandfather almost pitches over with laughter, he has to hang on to his cane to keep upright. You have force yourself not to laugh.

“Oh, oh God that was funny.” Grandfather says wiping a tear from his eye. “Smart, funny and beautiful, you’ll make all the boys go crazy.” He says to Trish, who has to look away to hide her blush from the compliment.

“Seriously though Grandfather,” You start “I need to ask you some questions about Oni. Specifically about the Oni Bond and Binding. I need to know for a friend….” You say, ending on a sheepish note. Grandfather smiles knowingly at you.

“Is there anything specific? I only know so much?” He asks you.

“I need to know if an Oni can be forcibly bound after birth, I also need to know what happens after a bond has been severed. My friend was accidently bound somehow, and now she’s worried it could happen again.” Grandfather sits up, and suddenly his demeanor changes from kindly old man to wise teacher.

“The first question I unfortunately cannot answer, my knowledge is unfortunately limited.” He states grimly, as you and Trish share an uneasy look. “The second I can answer however, if the bond is relinquished or severed, the Oni’s growth is hindered. They will never lose power that they have, but they will always feel empty, and incomplete. With the bond their growth explodes exponentially, their potential is unmatched.” He finishes looking you in the eye.
You touch the place where the chain was bound to your neck, remembering the pulsing that came from it. The power you could feel in yourself. Now when you go to look for that power, the only thing you feel is emptiness.
>>

Fucking dropped, Forcing us to be fucking bound or be gimped is something that is completely bullshit, I was a little angry with how you bound us but fucking gimping us now because of it, That's something I am completely against.
>>
>>45247612
Thanks for the run StrikeZone.
>>
>>45247622
The only thing it does mechanically is keep you from learning faster, that's it. You can be just as strong, and just as powerful as a bound Oni, it just takes longer.
>>
>>45247664
Which is bullshit, It's gimping us for not wanting to be a slave or under orders from anyone, All because we got bound ONCE by your bullshit.
>>
>>45247664
Adding on to this, if you guys had rolled higher for the meditation vote earlier you would've unlocked a power. With how the roll went, the next time you try the DCs for the degrees of success will be lowered.
>>
>>45247613
Trish, I guess. I'd rather have a supernatural power bond to our best friend than our mother. Maybe she'll get to learn magic, either void or human, through feedback from the bond, that'd be cool.
>>
>>45247687
Oh I bet if we were fucking bound though we would ahve gotten it though wouldn't we have, As I said, Complete and utter fuckingbullshit on your part.
>>
>>45247681
>All because we got bound ONCE by your bullshit.

Actually, this was always the case. It didn't just happen because you were bound. You were bound for maybe 15 minutes, when you were unbound it returned you to what you were before. Think of it as an XP boost instead of a hindrance.
>>
>>45247579
But the void is emptiness and our power comes from there, so logically shouldn't losing the bond have the inverse effect on void oni?
>>
>>45247704
Nah with rolls that bad, even bound, you wouldn't have gotten anything.
>>
>>45247713

post.
> “The second I can answer however, if the bond is relinquished or severed, the Oni’s growth is hindered.
>>
>>45247739
As compared to a Bound Oni, it's hindered. It's actually your natural state. Being bound is kind of like a XP multiplier like I said. Being unbound has not harmed you in anyway.

>>45247771

Didn't you drop this quest at thread 2?
>>
>>45247786
Listen to what I'm telling you now. You have not been harmed in anyway, you are at the same growth rate as when we started. Being bound is like a cheat code for Oni growth. That's it.
>>
>>45247612

I really enjoyed your thread today, thanks for running!

Urban Oni Quest / Mortal Kombat Konquest Krossover when?
>>
>>45247786
Yes it was. At the beginning of the first thread QM said. Oni's where created to serve this is why the bonding thing happens.

“The second I can answer however, if the bond is relinquished or severed, the Oni’s growth is hindered. They will never lose power that they have, but they will always feel empty, and incomplete. With the bond their growth explodes exponentially, their potential is unmatched.” You need to read things more carefully Anon.

"various family stalemates were hindering communication"
>>
>>45247916
If you recall from the second thread, the bond can't compel you to do anything. She can't use it to force you to do something. All it does is prevent you from letting your Lord be harmed in good conscious, or harm them yourself.
>>
>>45247916
Trish is probably the only person "worthy" enough to be our lord anyway.

>>
>>45247940

>>
>>45247940
>if the bond is relinquished or severed, the Oni’s growth is hindered.

As compared to their bound state anon
>>
>>45247940
And an unbound Oni's growth is HINDERED relative to a BOUND Oni's.

This is not that hard.
>>
>>45247966
Read >>45247975
>>
>>45247940
The hindering was in relation to a Bonded Oni, you dumb fuck.
If you compare the growth rate of someone under the effects of an XP multiplier to the growth rate of someone who is no longer under such effects, of course the latter is going to have their growth hindered, especially when the comparison is about someone who had the explosive growth and now the explosive portion of that growth has been removed.

This is not difficult. It is not college-level reading, but high school reading comprehension at most. All you're doing to showcasing the abysmal state of your reading comprehension, and that you need to take remedial courses.
>>
>>45247918
I haven't gotten into it yet because my internet is slow as fuck, but everything I've seen on it looks fantastic. The only complaints I've seen on forums are mission timers being more common (though I enjoyed those in the first game) and being "unoptimized," which seems to largely be a problem with the antialiasing.
I was hoping mentioning it would result in someone who had played it gushing and changing the topic, but oh well.

>>45248203
They keep themselves hidden to prevent people from freaking the fuck out. Oni-forged weapons are made by and Oni smith using magic to help shape the weapon. Basically glorious nippon steel.
Fae are weird and come in a whole bunch of forms, the ones you fought were lesser fae whose blood had mingled with humans. All Fae (except for a few) have a tremendous weakness to iron, it burns and poisons them. They can all use magic to some degree, they live exponentially longer than humans, and the purest ones can't lie.

At the national level with some deserved suspicion, these are non human beings after all. New legislation was passed in the U.S. in the late 80's that prevents people losing their citizen ship by turning non human. If the person never was actually human (Like Amy) it's a legal grey area, hence her keeping it hidden.

You don't have to post the entire thing whole-sale, but for this grandpa situation, to give an example, you could type up him telling us the relevant information to the bond, and check over your notes to make sure it's clear, and have that in reserve.
