We are a strong, independent oni woman, and we don't need no master.

You take a deep, deep, breath and try to focus. The faeries that were attacking Dan appear to have fled the scene, so for the time being you can try and figure out what has happened to you. You finger the chain encircling your neck and feel the connection between you and Dan. It’s a very strange feeling, almost as if you can feel his pulse and yours at the same time.
“Hey Dan?” You say breaking the uncomfortable silence that’s been there since Dan finished talking. He looks up at you, his face screwed up in concentration.

“Yeah Amy?”

“You think we could try and figure out what the hell just happened to me? The faeries are gone and it’s driving me crazy.” You tell him, trying to keep your voice calm. The anger you were feeling hasn’t entirely dissipated and you don’t want to scare him, too badly.

“Yeah sure,” He says sitting down on the ground “what can you tell me about this ‘chaining’ and ‘Bond’.” You sit down with him, the ground shaking a bit as you drop yourself more or less to his level.

“Okay, so I don’t know everything, and the only person who knows anything about what I am is my grandfather.”

“That’s weird, you’re not adopted are you?” He asks, not trying to hide the curiosity in his voice. You arch an eyebrow at him.

“No I’m not, Oni are weird, apparently our blood can skip generations and manifest in our descendants. I’m the first Oni to be born in our family for some 7 generations.” You tell him as he nods.

If this were on the West Coast, or the New Jersey/New York area, there are Japanese supplementary schools that a lot of the Japanese kids go to learn to speak and read/write Japanese.

Specifically some trees, after punching three trees in joy a wave of exhaustion hits you. You collapse to the ground, breathing incredibly heavy. That’s odd you didn’t use up THAT much energy fighting the faeries, you’ve even stopped having to consciously clench your back muscles to stop your stab wound from bleeding. Then you notice that with the pulsing from the chain stopped you feel… Empty

“AMY!” Dan yells as he runs over to you. “Are you alright?” he asks standing over you, worry clear in his eyes. You make a non-committal sound and start to get up, when you finally get vertical the exhaustion seems to dissipate some, so does the empty feeling.

“Seriously, are you alright? You did get stabbed.” Dan asks, as you wave him off.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. The fight just took more out of me than I thought it did.” You answer. He seems to believe you and then the awkward silence comes back. “What time is it?” You ask him suddenly, he raises his eyebrow but checks his phone anyway.

The drive to Dan’s house is pretty un-eventful, you make some small talk, learn a bit about each other. You’re both seniors and he goes to some private school around the Memorial area. He seems like a pretty decent guy all things considered, he even made the most embarrassed face when you removed your ruined bra at a stop light. Damn you wish you could’ve taken a picture, he was almost as red as the light. Although the drive was pleasant, he seemed hesitant to talk about what he knew that made the faeries come after him, you think it’s because he doesn’t want you to get hurt.
