Skaven Civilization thread resurection.


We were a pack of Skaven who were enslaved by some human cultists along with some hobbits. We freed ourselves from the evil maniacs and escaped the mana wastes they were leading us in. We settled in a canyon next to a river and managed to build ourself town defended by a stone wall. We our ratmen currenly number 107 and the hobbits are roughly 60. The hobbits are rather passive and they only care for growing food and leaving a peaceful life.

Our leaders are Mengnaw ( who got his magic powers by devouring a cultist) and Drugil who is an aspiring leader,architect and warrior.

We have access to bronze tools and weapons. Mengnaw has 2 apprentices and 1 adept who is skilled in air magic.

We made a trade agreement with some Lizards who live to the south. We have 3 turns to acuqire 8 turns of food and seeds in order to exchange them for Clothes and Linen seeds and the Recipe for Paper.

We have around 107 ratmen and 60 hobbits (Food producing NPCs)

Drugil Aquired the Arcane lore and history when he was investigating the ruins of an ancient city in the Mana Wastes to the east. There he learned about ages long past and terrible things that happened to that civilzation. This knowledge gave him a better understaning of the nature of the world and this in turn made it easier for him to master magic.

The stone wall has one tower overlooking our farms.

We are currently have a school which all rats attend. Passively we gain 1 tech every 4 turns.


The leader of the lizardmen is called Zlatmundi of the Lake. He appeared to be wearing golden trimmed clothes and a Crown. We didn't reveal anything but our bountiful quisine and our pottery skills to the Lizardmen and in turn they only revealed their skill to make clothes.

They appeared to have pet dogs. They have hunting traps in the mountains to the south. They claim that territory as theirs. It starts where the clearing around the lake ends. We make deals with them in the abandoned Windmill.


We have 3 turns to acquire 8 turns of food for the Trade deal.

The hobbits produce enough food for everyone to be well fed. In return we give them protection. We made our settlement with their help and since then we have been mutually beneficial to eachother. They were once slaves like us to the human cultists.

He appared to be the leader of the Lizardmen to the south. We met them when our scouts infringed on their territory.

The lizardmen don't seem hostile. We have made negotiations for a trade deal and we agreed that they will give us linen and hemp seeds and the technology of how to grow them and weave them into clothes and rope.

We in turn promised to supply them with food. We lack 2 turns of food to be able to make the trade deal

The Mana Wastes Ruins. The mana wastes are a dangerous and inhospitable place. Last time Mengnaw and his men ventured there they uncovered some insight into the nature of the world. They had the feeling that they are being constanly watched and during the nights some of the rats went mad and ran away into the sands. Their screams were heard shortly after.

The skaven in our town get tools and start making improvements to the walls. Meanwhile Drugil gets the carts and some horses and sets off with his 20 trusted rats towards the windmill to the south.

The rats in the settlement decide to help the hobbits homes. They connect them to the road network of the town and rebuild their houses with stone wood and clay. The hobbits are happy to be able to move into the better homes. Some bridges are made across the small stream that crosses through our town. They have stone fondations and wooden encasings with added bronze which keeps them strong.

Meanwhile the the rest of the ratmen erect two towers which they add to the outer walls. One is overlooking to the north and one is looking towards the mana wastes. over the ridge of the canyon.

Murder Holes are added to sections of the wall.

The trade is done as it was agreed on. Zlatmundi signs over to his people and they bring in clothes and seeds along with the schematics and instructions on how to weave cloth and ropes.
We unload the carts with food and they take it up. The tension is now slowly fading. The lizardmen's dogs are running around.

Zlatmundi and Drugil agree to send notice to a watchman in the windmill which both our civilizations leave if anything further comes up.

Drugil is eyeing the dogs.

what kind of army would you like to train.
In our current army roster we have melee warriors, archers and shadowteeth. The last are hard to train and require some turns to finish but they are considered the elite of our military forces, they can be sent on recon missions and to sabotage, ambush or assasinate enemies.

Warriors and Archers on the other hand make for the bulk of our forces and would be used as the main force in battles.

We have also have 10 horses and the option to domesticate elephants.

Upon returning Mengnaw and Drugil decide that it is time to celebrate the good trade with a festival of fertility. Food is distrubuted to everyone participating. Fried fish, cornbread with honey, smoked elephant meat with olives. Everyone is overjoyed and happily dancing on the plaza. Even the hobbits have joined in the later hours.

Back in the outskirts of the town the hobbits and skaven build an irrigated enclosing for the elephants. They build a stone fence around it tall enough for the elephants not to jump out. It has Elephant barns which can house the arriving animals.

Meanwhile the hunters entrap younglings without hurting them and transport them to the elephant ranch.

We now have 5 young elephants and 2 adults.

The young elephants will grow up in 2 turns.

Mengnaw makes some new plans for the buildings in the town. He designs new a new type of building that can support more than 1 floor and isolates the heat and cold better. We now have started remaking the houses in our settlement.


Event
Due to our increased numbers the town has a problem with disposing of the waste. There are already some sick ratmen. We must do something fast in order to free the people of the toxic wastes that we churn out.

Meanwhile Drugil recieves word that the emissary of the lizardmen will be at the windmill in one turn. He sends Mengnaw as a diplomat.

All of our ratmen start working on our sewer system. Mimicking the technology of the irrigation pumps Drugil designs the pipes made from ceramics and bronze. Their purpose is to connect all of our houses to several underground arteries of the sewage system which lead out of the city for a few kilometers downstream. ( 1 hex = 2 square kilometers. )

We now have a functional sewage system though we have lost around 10 ratmen to the illnesses which quickly recede.

We now have 158 free ratmen which we can employ for the betterment of our civilization.

We now have 40 bronze armors. Meanwhile Mengnaw reaches the Windmill. There he finds an envoy from the Lizardmen.

All the lizardmen look tired. Some of them are missing limbs which are slowly regrowing. Mengnaw asks what is the reason they fare so bad.

The Lizardman envoy at first dodges his questions but finally gives in and tells Mengnaw that the war with the humans is draining his people. They are losing more peaople each year. And he fears that they may succumb to the vile humans.

We wanted to trade something for their domesticated dogs.

The lizardmen appear to have superiour steel weapons and armor. Also they have adorned themselves with gold jewels.

They gladly accept the offer. The lizardman envoy says the war broke out some 20 years ago ( around the time when this thread started)

At first they were winning but the humans employed slaves and enslaved the lizards themselves. And there was a shortage of food during that period so the lizardmen had trouble regaining their numbers.

The humans also had some warlocks that used the slaves as fodder to summon evil spirits. Now only their capital and 1 smaller settlement stand. The envoy seems to feel shame about continuing to talk about how his people are dying out slowly

We should use our superior stealth to turn the tides in this war. The Lizardman reveals that they have a surplus of steel armors and tools because the users are long dead. Sadly They are made to fit the bigger lizards so they will need reforging to be used by the smaller skaven.

Drugil's training regimen yields good results.

They are now fighting as one and execute precise commands without wavering. He even employs the 2 shamans in his wargames. The air shaman learns how to mass deflect arrows coming at his assigned troops. While the water shaman uses learns to blast his enemies with concentrated streams of water.

The morale of the newly forged army is high.
