The Emperor's Crown is weighty in your grasp. You turn the lacquered antler over in your hands, recalling the great beast you slew to claim your prize. The Emperor Cobra was a deadly foe, even as desperately outgunned as it was in your confrontation. You're acutely aware of the feeling now. You hope its binding can lend you some of that same desperate power without the same end result. You like your organs squishy and functional.

You'll start basic and work outward from there. Your last experiment with the Crown and your shirt was a surprisingly successful endeavor. You can't help but wonder how much more effective it would be in proper armor. You shrug on your chain shirt, taking a moment to ensure it still hangs properly on your body before pressing the Crown to your chest. The Litany of Unity spills from your lips by practiced rote. You can feel the chain shifting around you as it accepts the Emperor's power into it. Your shoulders grow leaden, then light as a feather in rapid succession as chain shifts aside to birth gleaming plate.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Vanguard Chevalier. A shining golden breastplate complete with horned shoulderpads. An aura of leadership and charisma encapsulates the bearer, improving their abilities in lead and command. Forms a battering ram of golden force when charging.]]

Aside from being remarkably lightweight and sturdy, you can feel the charismatic aura the plate lends to you. Certainly something to keep in mind when fighting with allies rather than your usual solo fare. The brown-gold image conjured when sprinting at top speed is that of the Emperor Cobra charging, maw agape. Certainly fit to inspire allies and inspire terror in foes.

>>
>>45124597

Keeping with the theme of worn accoutrement you pull the Crown from your breastplate and slide into your boots instead. The well-worn leather of your boots creeps up your shin as the Litany bleeds raw power into the air around them, sapping your freshly charged reserves. By the time your footwear has devoured the entire Focus they've capped out just above your knees.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Seneschal Step. Lends preternatural flexibility to Osyki's movement. Allows to bearer to sprint sideways or backwards as easily as forward, and matches Osyki's vertical leap with his horiztonal.]]

There's something odd to the way your legs move clad in the rich brown knee-high boots. The flashing golden clasps seem to reflect the sun in just such a way that catching a good glimpse of how your legs contort to allow you to sprint sideways is utterly impossible. A good trick to keep under wraps for a surprise in combat. You imagine climbing with these would be a good deal easier, too. You wonder if their effects extend to aquatic endeavors.

Seeking to round out your panoply, you install the Emperor's Crown in your gloves next. You hardly feel the difference as the light washes over you. Perhaps your reserves are doing better than you thought.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Monarch's Mountebank. Saps physical force and kinetic energy with the left glove. Stolen momentum is transferred to the next movement of the right glove.]]

This bind takes some experimenting. The elbow-length gloves of dark snakeskin seem little more than a poor fashion statement until you take to swinging from tree limb to limb. The unnatural stillness of the boughs and your unexpectedly exuberant grip combine to send you spiraling to the earth. Further trial and error confirms your suspicion. Though the gloves seem poor protection physically you imagine clever positioning would give you a powerful advantage in close quarters with a physically-reliant foe.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Eye of the Emperor. A golden half-mask decorated with serpentine fangs and amber-gold lenses. The wearer can see powerful emotions manifested as physical auras around sapient beings. Further properties unknown.]]

The Cobra's mask lights the village up with a halo of hazy greens and blues. Exhausted farmers carry a pallid gray mantle around their shoulders, while exuberant children race in glowing nimbuses of orange and gold. You can feel deeper potential within the binding, but without a willing test subject they'll need to stay unknown for now.

One more with the Cobra before you retire him for the moment, you think. Something unusual. Perhaps something...

You snap your fingers. Something fitting, if a little impractical. You fetch a stool from within your workshop, planting it in the dirt. The Emperor's Crown looks a little impractical balanced atop it.

The resulting fusion is anything but.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Naga's Glory. A gleaming throne of horn and bone set atop a glowing serpent's skull. Orders given from the throne are difficult to resist, though sentient creatures have a better chance than animals. Serpents cannot help but obey the word of Naga. Those who defy the Emperor's decree are subject to bursts of concussive force.]]

The Razor Wing is very nearly a weapon in its own right. The miniaturized rock appendage still holds a hair-thin edge more than capable of splitting flesh if handled carelessly. You recall—intimately—the feeling of it biting deep into your belly on that fateful fall. Another favor you'll need to repay at some point. The Cloud Shepherd really saved you by getting you down that mountain.

You're well familiar with the majority of the Drake's offensive permutations. Resplendent Gale and Dawning Zephyr are two of your go-to weapons. Still, the Drake has surprised you with the likes of Bulwark Aurum before. No sense not pushing the limits of your trusty Mistbound steed. You swing the Wing into place before the mask first, planting the tip of the stone in the mask's forehead.

“I unite the spiritual and the mundane.”

True now as it was ever before

>> [[Binding Discovered: Hurricane Fang. This gold-cast facsimile of a roaring Skyscythe Drake emits a piercing scream when spoken into. The shrill sound alone is enough to stun and disorient enemies. With sustained vocalization the mask causes localized zephyrs and high-pressure wind systems. Disables speech.]]

The guard comes running along the walls. They grip their spears and slings in white-knuckle grips as they search for the source of the predator's keening wail. When they find you in the midst of a roaring dust devil a few of them back slowly away. A few leap over the wall wholesale. The veteran Slayers, more familiar with your antics, alternatively shake their heads and wave.

The potential for battlefield control with the mask is considerable. The force generated by the Drake's wail is nearly palpable.

Still, best to not cause too much of a disturbance before noon.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Gleaming Cyclone. Launches compressed discs of razor-edged wind. A winch on the bolt-thrower's side can be used to variably adjust the size of the disc, from an inch to nearly two feet wide. Recoil increases with the size of the projectile fired.]]

The bolt-thrower's arms flare wide as the Wing sinks into them, growing into stony simulacra of the Drake's weapons. The entire bolt-thrower shifts to resemble a hand-held Drake, the mouth of the monster serving as the launching point for the invisible waves of destruction the weapon unleashes. The projectiles are difficult to follow with the naked eye, blurs of the air. Stealthy the weapon is not, however, as the sheer roaring generated by the first volley rattles the glass in the workshop's windows.

Something a bit more low-key, perhaps.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Bladed Bastion. A tunic of yellow leather armor reinforced with stone plates. A cape of Drake's fur hangs from the back. Swinging one's arms generates blades of cutting force to match a Skyscythe Drake.]]

Simple, but also perhaps the least obvious weapon to grace your arsenal. Small, gentle movements barely rustle the air, while a swung arm or a forceful elbow generates enough force to split a fallen tree. You feel a little closer to your spirit wearing this garb. The cape makes you feel regal and feral all at once.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Zenith's Eye. A disc of golden metal with a stone handle at its top. When exposed to direct sunlight the mirror slowly charges. When powered the mirror flies in orbit around the bearer, its edges razor-sharp.]]

The image of a coiling Skyscythe Drake etches itself into the surface of the golden disc as you hold it in the sun. Its full charge is signaled by the disc itself vibrating slightly. Based on a few trials, you should be able to get up to twenty minutes of continuous flight from the disc at full charge.

>>
>>45126619

Finally, you look upon the humble stool. The last attempt was surprising enough. What could it hold in store for the king of the mountain sky?

>> [[Binding Discovered: Auspicious Rest. A six-winged golden disc that hovers six inches off of the nearest horizontal surface. Capable of rapid, if poorly controlled flight. The arcane designs etched into the surface of the disc serve as meditation aids. Meditating on the image of a known place spurs the disc to fly at top speed toward it.]]

You spend the better part of an hour zipping over the village at reckless speeds. While the disc can accelerate alarmingly quickly it turns like a drunken cow and there's nothing in the way of safety or restraints to keep you from flying off of the surface in the event of a rapid stop or sudden decrease in altitude.

Remind me, swapping to different spirits is more tiring than moving the same spirit to multiple items, right?

Because, otherwise, it's technically slightly more efficient to try one specific item with multiple spirits at a time, purely in terms of filling up our list, because we have more items than we do Spirits.

(so, assuming we can do 5 bindings in a go, we knock out 1/3 of our options per go, instead of 1/5)

Of course, if it is more stressful, there's something to be said for training to switch between spirits on the fly, and trying to grow our reserves through use.
>>
>>45128565
No, that's not a rule. It's just binding and unbinding rapidly that's tiring.
>>
>>45128565
Switching around tires the spirits as well.
>>
Even with gloves it still feels dangerous to handle the Basilisk Cryst. The condensed black stone fouls the air around it with a thick purple miasma. You toss it to yourself once to remind yourself that its poison is inert in this state, even if the air does have a slightly acrid tinge. No reason to get careless, though. The second you bind it that calcified venom will flow again.

You'll just have to find it a proper target.

You start with something a little off the wall. The Basilisk was roughly tube-shaped, known for its serpentine dexterity. It stands to reason, then, that a rope should be a natural housing for its spirit. You wrap the cryst in a length of solid rope. The Litany of Unity bleeds deep purple vapors into the air as the potent venom within the Cryst is unleashed. The power of even a nascent Behemoth made manifest is immediately apparent to your mind's eye.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Petrifact Coil. A long chitinous length surrounding a cord of gooey purple sinew that flexes and extends at the bearer's command. Petrifies any living being suffering from poison or disease. At the wielder's discretion, the statue can be returned to flesh with no ill effects or shattered into fine powder.]]

An unusually utilitarian charm from the most virulent beast in the land. The disturbingly undulating wire is theoretically useful to save poisoned allies from succumbing before an antivenom can be concocted. The obvious combat implications aren't lost on you either. Paired with another venemous binding this could be a rapid way to mop up less than agile foes.

The rope looks a little frayed as you pull the Cryst from it, though that could be a trick of your imagination. You make sure to empty your waterskin before place the Cryst atop it for safety's sake. The last thing you need is to forget yourself and take a refreshing mouthful of muscle solvent.
(cont.)
>>
>>45128692

>> [[Binding Discovered: Bane Satchel. This eerily pulsating sack of violet membranes can sup poison from any appropriately toxic source through its barbed spigot. The sack envenoms any weapon wiped upon its surface with the entirety of the satchel's contents, from hallucinogenic mushrooms to potent venom.]]

The bag comes pre-loaded with a single dose of Basilisk Venom on creation. You quickly undo that particular union before it leaks and permanently blights to earth of your backyard. Given a deserving organic target your waterskin could ensure a prolonged, painful spiral into fever and death. You can think of at least one potentially deserving victim.

The chainmail comes next. You hold the Cryst at your stomach rather than against your heart. The difference is academic at best, but it makes you feel better. What comes immediately after, less so.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Wyrmblood Aparatus. A harness decked with matte black plates. The innards of the plates are covered with soft spine which inject the wearer with a potent cocktail of chemicals to encourage heightened adrenal response, enhanced senses, and tremorsense. The bearer's blood and spit become highly corrosive upon exiting the body.]]
(cont.)
>>
>>45128716

The world around you is painted in impressionistic strokes of red and black as you don the Aparatus. You barely feel a brush against your skin as the quills inject their load into your bloodstream in a steady drip. Rivulets of thick foaming drool leak from the corners of your mouth as your body shifts into bestial overdrive. You can feel your muscles swelling and distending grotesquely. You feel no pain—you're not sure you would recognize the sensation if you remembered it. It is a titanic effort of will to pound your fist into the circular cinch of the harness, to disengage the quills before they can deposit the final course of injections. You fall to your knees and vomit a stream of black sludge immediately as your body vents the waste chemicals before they can do irreversible damage to your nervous system.

You take a few minutes away from the practice field at that. A nice walk by the stream. Just enough to shake the traces of chittering madness from the edges of your thoughts.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Bezoar Cryst. A bone-white mirror of the Basilisk Cryst is set into this barbed chitin amulet. Nullifies any and all organic poisons inflicted upon the wearer. Greatly boost resistance to magical poisons and infections.]]

Another simple binding understated in its absolute power over an enormous threat in the natural world. If only Ayren had been given access to this. Maybe you would still have a tutor.

Maybe he would have torn the pact apart to autopsy its parts by now.

You shake your head violently. The dregs of the Aparatus chase your system still, it would seem. You refocus.

One more try.

The knife is the obvious choice for the Basilisk Cryst. Neurode's barbed edge is a awe-inspiring weapon of biological warfare. No sense in not giving it a try.

>> [[Binding Discovered: Veneni. A macabre trench knife crafted of a single Basilisk Wyrmling tooth. Immaterial effects or beings struck by the knife are forced to solidify and manifest on the material plane. Beings forced to materialize struck a second time receive a concentrated dose of Basilisk venom.]]

You feel a little dizzy looking at it. A tiny thing, a matte-black grip with a tiny glass needle tooth. A weapon designed to kill spirits. Knowing you have access to this will not earn you friends among the spirit courts. You test the weight of the weapon, throwing a few test-jabs and swings. It's unbelievably lightweight for something with so much killing potential.

You pull the Cryst from the knife and tuck it away with a fresh reminder that even the spawn of Behemoths are terrors beyond equal.

[[Okay folks. It's well past my bedtime so we'll call things here for the time being. My love and appreciation to the anons who keep the binding record and wiki up to date. As always, asks go in the ask box. See you next week, same time, same channel.]]

>>
>>45129057
I'll support you as well.

Despite fighting for Deep Siren these last two threads.

It's a good idea, I just wanted to explore the less-used parts of our arsenal.

>>45130107
My understanding was
A) It took more effort from us that simply sustaining both spirits would (So there's the Drain of A, B, and the friction)
and
B) It supposedly only worked with "compatible spirits", but that's from a really old thread before we actually tried double-binding, so I think it turned out to be more "The spirits can interact, for better or worse".

So, we were afraid to double-bind Hunger, in case he could eat the other spirit, sort of deal.

Also, Ayren says there's a chance of the item double-bound exploding if over-used.
