PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

The four of you sat in waiting underneath the trees leading out of the mountain valley nestling Baroness von Streucker’s castle. You had sent Alena to scout ahead, and report back on their movements. It had been at least a few days since you first retrieved the Silver weapons. And in that time you were preparing to strike, hoping to catch the Baroness off guard so that you could save the boys and girls trapped inside the Castle.

Now though, you were waiting. You took a deep breath as you heard the rustling of snow and sticks coming closer. Alena hurried over to you, kneeling down beside you. “Patrols in the town are gone. The Baroness is gathering up all of her troops, I think she’s planning some big movement.”

“Should we stop?” asks Rana.

“We probably should,” says Sumire as she lies in the snow, bored out of her mind. “I mean, we got all these cool weapons and stuff, we might as well.”

“What else do you see?” you ask.

“They were loading up some trucks and half tracks too. She’s got a really big tank protecting it all as well.” So she is planning on evacuating. Most likely also bringing the kids with her too. If you catch them out in the open from the protection of the castle, you’ll have a huge advantage. And with these silver weapons, you’re sure to beat down the Wolf Pack as well. “Should we go now?”

“We’ll wait for them to leave the castle, then get them while they’re on the road. They won’t have much help then coming if we do that.” They nod, agreeing with that. “Alright. Let’s pack up and move.” You grab your bags and start walking down the road. It’s time to start spotting out for a good ambush site.

Rana walks up next to you. “You know, Alena’s been a real good help. Do you think we could bring her back to the states with us?”

“As nice as that sounds,” says Alena as she walks up next to a surprised Rana. “I would rather return home to Italy. My people are being oppressed by a tyrant back home. And I must do everything in my power to stop that.”

“I understand,” you say. “I won’t force you if you don’t want to go.”

She smiles happily, then kisses you on the cheek. “Thank you!”

Sumire clears her throat loudly enough to cause an avalanche. “You know, Alena. I just wonder what kind of people would just let a tyrannical fascist take over their country and start imposing military law?” Alena gives a very stern and candid look to Sumire. She’s heard this before. “Makes me think what kind of person you might be.”

“I should ask the same question to you,” she says. Sumire huffs, turning her head. “That’s what I thought.”

“Now, now, don’t argue you two.” They look at you, a little annoyed. “We’re on the same side, if not necessarily of the same er…” Darn it, you had something going there. “You two come from very surprising backgrounds, that’s something to have common, right?”

They roll their eyes, groaning.

Anneliese says to you, “My concern now at least is that we stop this, perhaps even stop the entire war before it gets out of hand.” She takes your arm hopefully, stars in her eyes. “Think about it, if we stop Baroness von Streucker here, we can stop all the Nazis in their tracks! I can liberate my homeland!” You smile happily at her. That’s the spirit, Anneliese. “I can return home then!”

Rana frowns a little, sadly. “You… you don’t want to stay in the US with us?” Anneliese blinks, coughing, unsure of what to say.

“Well, I mean…” Anneliese shrugs. Rana frowns, looking at the ground.

> “Rana, don’t guilt her. There’s no home like where you’re born.”

Anneliese sighs. “Rana, I like the United States, I do. But er…”

“Is this about what happened back at the ballpark?” Rana frowns heavily, deeply hurt you imagine by the thought of Anneliese choosing Germany over the US. Truth be told you were hurt by the thought as well. You just never thought it’d come up like this. “Anneliese, I told you. We’re not all like that. We’re… we’re a very complicated type of people.”

“I still have people I know from childhood here. My extended family as well. They probably don’t even know what happened to me,” she says. “I have cousins here, some are probably in the Wehrmacht. I can’t just as you say, ‘let that lie’. If anything, It is my duty to come back here and redeem them.” She bites her lip, still in a bit of doubt about it you’d guess. “I’m sorry, Rana.”

Rana sighs, then immediately hugs Anneliese tight. “At least you’re honest.” They rub cheeks with each other, saddened but stronger from it hopefully.

Sumire nudges you as well. “That said, why is #5 so adamant we just sit back and wait? It used to be that we could do whatever we wanted! Now we have to make sure not to piss off the people we’re fighting? What happened?”

“Things change,” you say. “The United States can’t afford to be dragged into another war like the Great War. It’s not like the Nazis sank the Lusitania or anything. As far as I know they haven’t done anything to hurt us.” As far as you know at least. But it is suspicious how now is the time for caution instead of the US coming to the aide of Europe. The Polish could’ve appreciated it, as could have the Czechs and the Austrians. Soon the Danish might need it, and the Norwegians, very soon the French and the African nations, then Great Britain.

“Still, you can’t just take this,” says Sumire.

“I’m not. Once this is all done and we’re back, I’ll have a talk with him.” You place your hands on your hips, looking at Sumire as you walk. “Look, I don’t like this anymore than you, but right we have a job to do, and we’re wasting time arguing about it. Let’s agree to disagree so to speak.”

She rolls her eyes. “Fair enough.”

And with that, you hurry on down the road.

With a bit of quick thinking and lightness on your feet, you were able to intercept the Baroness’ convoy going northward towards what you assume to be Berlin. However, you caught them on a lonely country road in the middle of nowhere, with only dead farm fields around and the occasional farmhouse for miles. You five sat on a low hill, watching them come in.

There were twenty vehicles in total. Five halftracks containing troops. Ten trucks containing who you assume to be the kids. Three Panzer III tanks, a Panzer II, and a gargantuan multiturreted tank. “The Neubaufahrzeug,” says Rana. “I’ve heard of those. Really big guns on them too.”

“Are they good?” you ask.

“I don’t know, I’ve never even seen one move!” she says in quiet awe.

With the Neubaufahrzeug taking the lead, and the lesser tanks far in the back, you had to make a decision. Which part of the convoy do you snipe first?

The so-called Neubaufahrzeug explodes brilliantly in a cloud of flames and shrapnel. The entire convoy grinds to a halt, the trucks and halftracks rolling into ditches alongside the road. The flaming big tank that would have been a solid threat to you turns out to be made of cardboard, at least from the perspective of Tiger’s mini 88mm cannon.

> MECHA MAGICAL GIRL TIGER! <

Troops start dismounting out of the halftracks and off the hulls of the tanks, getting ready to do battle with the ambushers. Tiger extends her mechanical body out in full, firing another explosive shell into their wake again, sending soldiers scattering for cover. To back it up, she fires machine guns from her gauntlets to pin them in place. That’s where you come in. “Come on!” you yell. You hop up and transform in the air.

> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY! <

Bomber, Lightning, and a newly freed Magical Girl Pavise join you in the charge. The trio hide behind you and your shields as you close in. Your silver shield holds firm on your back, a constant reminder that its there in case of werewolves. You keep your shields up as the rain of gunfire starts pelting you and your friends. But with the power of magic you close the distance quick and easy. This is no Pickett’s Charge you’re reenacting. A soldier charges at you with bayoneted rifle, and you respond in kind with some broken ribs and a shattered spine courtesy of your shield’s edges. Lightning and Bomber get to work fighting the other lesser troops. They wear wolf pelts on their shoulders and over their helmets like Roman soldiers of old. Wolf Pack Acolytes.

One of them catches you by surprise, tackling you into the side of a halftrack. He’s about to crush your head with a machete, before catching a crossbow bolt to the neck. He falls over, dead.

Pavise walks over, grinning happily. She holds up the small square shield on her wrist, smiling at you. “We have something in common.” You can’t help but smile at that too.

“Ahem!” Lightning throws down an acolyte between you two, standing above you two on the halftrack’s edge. “We’re fighting!”

Oh, right.

A Wolf Pack drops out of one of the halftracks. “Girl!” He cracks his knuckles, growling at you. “I’m going to rip you to pieces!”

Fine, if he wants to fight, you’ll fight. But on his terms. “Go,” you say. Pavise nods, leaving you on to fight the other tanks and soldiers running around. You rub your hands together, licking your lips. He snarls, then rushes at you, fists held high. You bring up your shields.

And crack, you can hear his fist break against your shield with nary a rumble felt. He screams in pain, holding his hand. You headbutt him in the chest, sending him backwards into the side of a truck. He rolls onto his side, hurrying to recover before you finish it with a shield bash to the face. He jumps away, onto his feet, then rips off a shovel from the side of a halftrack. Fine, if he wants to use a weapon, he can. He tries to whack you over the head with it, and all you get is a few bangs and dents from it. But after a few hits, the shovel shatters in half.

And just to add insult to injury, you kick his shin, then nail him in the face with the flat of your shield. He’s sent stumbling backwards again, but is still not defeat. He barks from beneath his mask, growling at you. An acolyte comes from behind him. Perfect. The Wolf grabs him and tosses him at you. He goes flying over your head as you duck and breaks his neck on the ground behind you as you rush at him again. You bash him in the chest, then the arm, then leg, then finish it with a tackle. He stumbles back into the side of a truck again.

“Come on,” you taunt. “Surely you jest.”

He slaps the truck in frustration, then runs at you and tries for a punch. No dice, you block it. Again, you break his other hand and he howls in pain. Then you backhand with your shield, then kick him back. He falls over, wounded and clearly in pain.

Hmph. You didn’t even need the silver.

With Bomber and Tiger wrecking the tanks and Lightning and Pavise slaughtering the dismounted troops, the battle is in hand. That means you have to now save the girls. Now that you think about it, you’re not sure how you’re going to smuggle all of those girls out of the country or what to do with them. But as you walk over to the truck, you pull up a flap, you decide that you’ll work it out as you go along.

That is, until you took a closer look inside. Boxes. You smash open one box. Ammo and grenades. “Check the other trucks!” you yell. Lightning walks up next to you, grinning. But as soon as she sees your expression, her smile drops, and she runs to the other trucks. You break open every crate, every box. Soon Pavise, Tiger, and Bomber are on it.

Where are they!?

You drop off the last truck. They’re not here! The Wolf Pack soldier. You walk over to him as he lies on his back, writhing in pain. You stamp on his broken hand, and he howls in agony. “Where are the kids!?”

He snarls, gripping your boot. “Not with me!” They’re decoys! “Girls are halfway across Germany now! You’ll never find them!”

The girls all gasp in shock. Alena especially, in horror.

You’ve been outsmarted.

“You didn’t see them load any of the kids on, Alena!?”

You might have said that louder than it should’ve been, but these are trying circumstances. “I-… I saw them load the trucks with stuff, I just assumed they would have the kids too, I’m sorry!” Oh for the love of mercy. You can feel the heat boil in your head. You’re angry, but you don’t want to be angry at Alena or anybody else. This is probably more your fault than it is hers, thinking Baroness von Streucker would never pull off the oldest trick in the book: a decoy switch. You kick the truck wheel in frustration, making the girls flinch in fear.

“Get in a truck, now!” you order. They nod, hurrying into one of the abandoned trucks. The Wolf Pack soldier laughs, still writhing in pain. You stomp on his face, silencing him, then take the driver’s seat of one of the trucks. You hurry to turn it around and head for the Castle.

-

-

The town was completely deserted. Anybody that was left knew you were here, and they immediately shut their shutters and doors to you. They would be no help no matter how much you tried to smooth things with them. You drove the truck up the castle’s causeway, then into its inner walls. Only the sound of the wind rustling and the snow falling was accompanying you and your girls. You all stepped out, looking around. “Hello!?” you yell. “Streucker!” you shout.

“Why are you shouting!?” shouts Sumire . “They’re gone.” They can’t be. You hurry to the main doors and smash them open. The wooden iron bar reinforced doors fall apart like tissue paper as you storm through. The main halls of the Castle were completely empty.

“Archives,” you say. “Bomber, Tiger.” Tiger folds her mechanical suit up into a more portable position. “Go find any documents you can, now.” They nod, hurrying down one hall.

Pavise rubs her hands together, nervously. “I-… I’m sorry. I messed this up, didn’t I?” she asks.

“It’s alright,” says Sumire. Wow. Of all people. “We make mistakes sometimes. We just have to push through it,” she says. Pavise bites her lip, sniffling a little. This is a terrible mistake you and her have made.

“Kirby?” you ask.

He appears to you. “The entire castle is devoid of all personnel.” No. It can’t be. “I am sorry, but it appears we are too late. The Baroness is gone, as are the girls.”

“I’m going to wait until Bomber comes back. If she’s empty handed.” You walk over to a tossed chair in the room. You pick it up and sit down, sighing. Your muscles immediately relax, completely drained from the fighting of the day. “If she’s empty handed. Then I’ll know we’re screwed.”

You nod. “Fine, fine.” He nods, disappearing. Pavise and Lightning sit on either side of you, hugging their legs as you all contemplate what just happened. For one of the few times in your life, you’ve been outsmarted by someone smarter than you. It hurts, it really does. But you’ll bounce back, you’re sure of it. There are girls to save, evils to stop. And as long as you’re alive, nothing will change that.

Bomber and Tiger come back, bearing some scorched papers in their arms. “They uh… they burnt all the documents,” says Bomber. Great, another smart thing of her to do. Bomber walks up to you, placing a few of the papers in your lap. “This was all we could salvage.”

You nod, rifling through it. It was mostly gibberish aout the werewolves, gibberish about weapons, nothing about where they were going.

Except for a small map of course. There were several holes in it, but you could directly tell it was a map of Germany. It appears there are more based for Baroness von Streucker around the country, but which one is she going to!? You sigh, looking at it. She could be at any one of those by now. “Thanks,” you say. Bomber nods, twiddling her fingers a bit. Kirby returns, then beckons to the radio Tiger carries. Tiger nods, taking it off of her back, then planting it on the ground next to you. You pick up the receiver and sigh. “#5.”

“Kirby was quick to report the status of the mission to me,” he says. “I won’t mince words, things are now no longer to our favor. I’m sure you know that.” You nod, sighing loudly. “However, I will note the added benefit to this. We have certainly delayed whatever operations Baroness von Streucker was attempting significantly. Kirby reports that she abandoned all secondary research and much materiel to the Castle to escape your clutches. We can salvage this, provided you are willing to follow orders.”

“The current situation now is that we are very much right where we started, which is hunting the Baroness’ base of operations. I already have agents subverting communications in the higher echelons of the Nazi party, ensuring that whatever loyalty you have is kept secret. Right now however, you have a more important task.” You smile happily, great, Operator #5 has begun to see reason now. “We have reason to believe that the Baroness is now heading for Berlin. And she will attempt to reestablish her research and her Lebensborn project there in the capital. By any means necessary, ensure that does not happen.”

“Alright, sir.”

“And Liberty, do not disappoint me this time. You and your team are our only Magical assets in Germany, and thus have the power to make or break this operation. Do not fail me.” The transmission cuts out.

You grin. Finally, something you can work with. Lightning punches you gently on the arm. “Awesome! We finally get to blow something up!”

Pavise nods. “Great, great!” She smiles happily. “So you’re going to Berlin then?” You nod at her. “When are we leaving?”

You, Bomber, Tiger, and Lightning all look at each other. The hesitation says it all, and Pavise’s smile completely disappears. The four of you quickly huddle together. “What do you all think?” you ask.

Lightning shrugs. “I don’t know. She seems green, even by Bomber’s standards.” Bomber shrugs, reluctantly agreeing. “She made the big mistake today. We can’t have her screwing things up for us again.” Hm, she’s right. But she seems eager to return, even after being imprisoned and had other godless things possibly done to her. “You can come with us, Pavise.” She grins again, happily. “But you have to pull your weight, no big mistakes like today, okay?” She nods violently. “Now, you can run mid-range support with Bomber, she can keep you handy.” She nods again, intent on listening to your every word. “And make sure you take no unnecessary risks.”

“Capisco.” She thumps her chest, looking determinedly at you. “I will not fail you, I promise. We beat the Germans today, we defeat the fascists who took over my home tomorrow.”You smile, and hold out your hand. She takes it, then immediately pulls you in for a tight hug and a long kiss on the cheek. “Grazie mille, Tesoro!”

“Yeah, yeah.” Lightning immediately pulls her away. “Just try not to get too distracted.” Pavise grunts, nodding.

You smirk. “Are you jealous?”

“Pfft. No.” She turns her head away, a slight blush to her cheeks.

“So, we are done then,” says Anneliese. “We have our team, we have a truck, and we have a plan.”

“Yep. And we have one destination.” It’ll be a long road, but you’re going to have to drive it, and you will see it through to the end. “Berlin.”

Berlin. Back to the Heart of Evil.

So what is Magical Girl Pavise's gimmick? What does she look like?
>>
>>45124659
I bet she has endless amoounts of bolts, can reload very quickly and her bolts don't drop to gravity.

You can think of her as sort of a Magical Girl Liberty of Italy. She has the look of a classic medieval crossbowman mixed with the Genoese Crossbowman, complete with a magical Pavise shield she alternately wears on her back and her wrist. And to top it off, she can call upon a variety of Crossbows to assist her.
