"Just as I trusted you to see to it our clan is fairly fed and no-one hoards food from others, I now ask for your trust. Unsettling I may be, but I ask for your trust, Mesut. Trust that I can lead the tribe."
Mesut grows quiet, frowning and staring deep into the fire, as he chews his lip. Your argument was persuasive, but you're sure he has his own agenda to push as chief too - it was part of the reason you don't trust him with the power that would come from leading everyone. Finally, the hunter sighs.
"If you think you can pull it off Trym, then I won't stop you trying. I still don't think you'll get many following you. You're good at leading people's hearts, cousin, but there's more to being a chief than that. If this all comes down around your ears, I'll try to keep from saying 'I told you so.' But until then, if you need my family's help making this tribe of yours, feel free to ask it." His eyes narrows and Mesut squints at you, "Although I have to wonder why it is that you want so badly to be the leader. You are not the only one with suspicions, cousin."
It doesn't take long for him to leave after that. Beren slips her hand over your shoulder and you reach up to squeeze it. Mesut's been a long worry of the tribe your building, but for now, it seems he is content to sit and wait.

It is now Early Winter.

The mood of the clan is somewhat tenuous... By and large, the people are content and looking forward to the promised festivities, but there is still some division between the people. You begin to suspect that there likely always WILL be. Still, there are no new arguments, so there remains hope that your people will come together.

Elia sadly informs you that while the herders claim they know just the sort of thing he needs, they do not have it to hand. The rest of their clan has moved away as winter rolls in and will bring it when they return, but unless this festival becomes a regular thing, it will be too late to be any good.

You may still take further action this turn

It's easy to check the archives and after I made such a big deal out of it, I thought you were all somewhat on the ball!

And the lack of a thread on Monday wasn't my fault (for once). I was sick.

But chill, Soqed will probably shrug it off with a "Better late than never" if you do it early in the season, right?" I mean, making a personal offering like this wouldn't even take a whole action.

You push yourself through the cold and light snow, carrying your burden with Beren's help. The wolf god is waiting for you when you reach the Wild Place, frowning and tapping his fingers on his folded arms.
"You're late," he growls, "But you at least proved me wrong. I had thought for a moment you wouldn't hold up your end of our agreement."
"Where is Sera?" asks Beren immediately, but Soqed barely glances in her direction, before hunching forward, perception and existence twisting as he assumes his lupine form and gorges himself on the offering that you lay before him.
"Your daughter learns slowly," Soqed remarks to you, as he licks the last of the juices from his muzzle after the messy display. "She is safe for now however and she'll learn in time. Don't be so late with your offering next time, or that will change. As to when you'll see her again... You'll see her when she's good and ready. Not a moment sooner."
With that, the great wolf stretches, turns and walks away, vanishing into the wild once more. You're not sure, but Soqed seems to be becoming more terse as of late...

Your trip to the Wild Place and back didn't take long at all.

You may still take further action this turn.

>Better hunting spears?
I think in order to get the hunting tribe under our rule is to provide them incentives through our craft. Our clan provides grain+crafts, herding clan provides animals+exploration and the hunting clan will hunt and protect.
>>
>>45086304

Why not? isn't it only one day?

Atend the festival and then investigate something new, or stop the investigations to atend it and then get back to work.

Animal domestication : we can get one of those herders to talk during the festivities
>>
>>45086304

Does it require a full action?
I assumed it was for free as long as we stayed in the village where the festival will take place.

Set up the festival...
I'm sorry, I really didn't understand it required that
>>
Yeah, back in the day, religious festivals and ceremonies were big deals. Think about it; your clan is spending much of its life doing nothing these days but processing grain and trying to find things to do. For one reason or another, religion is becoming pretty central to their lives. I'll have it all thrown out in a pastebin doc sooner or later.

Anyway, calling the votes...

Guys, I'm sorry I reply so infrequently... Approval's dropping off and I'm pretty sure that's why. I'm sorry. I'll try to keep up, I do try by best but... I got nothing. Sorry.

>>
>>45087823
Less so approval is dropping, more so that this is the slow time of day. Hell i was unaware that you were going to run until i saw it in the catalogue. Try telling us when to expect you and additionally, try not to run too late; some of us anons live in the UK and only catch the beginning of your quest.

Anyway, i feel that it is slow as people are not on 4chan as of now, but that interest has not waned.
>>
>>45087823
You normally wait over an hour to even count votes, and play fucking games in between posts.
Anons have given you the tools and info to make your quest better, you just ignore them.

>inb4 stop not sucking his cock!
>inb4 sorry
>>
>>45088874
Honestly, this at least is not as bad as banished quest in regards to post speed, but i do agree. People might have lost interest at how the quest seems to be going very slowly but all quests do so i doubt that is the problem.
>>
>>45088965
You think his speed is better than banished? Soma speed has declined a shit ton. But he pushs out 2-3 full posts most updates.
Usually counts posts with in 30 minutes. He has enough votes for itDoes't take an hour just to get voted counted. and then take another hour to write something a few lines long. If you already have an idea where things roughly may go.
But that being said thanks for your time. slow is infinity better than nothing.
>>
>>45088874
>>45088965
Honestly though it is pretty slow. The thread's been up for about 17 hours, minus RWB sleeping for ~9 hours, is 8 hours of up-time. 3 updates in 8 hours, so the average is about 2 hours 42 minutes per update.
>>
>>45088965
Nice replying to my arguments, you managed to convince me of your point- what was that again? That this isn't bad because other people do a much lesser version of the same thing?
Banished Quest is a hundred and seventy five threads in. Soma's allowed to be a slow cunt.

>>
>>45088965

>>
>>45089115
Fair point, he was once much quicker and this place would be better if he could return to that speed.

More importantly he seems to have died while we argued.

>>45089152
I never had a point, i was merely saying things could be worse, the quest could drop from here permanently or go hiatus for example, what i was trying to say was that i agree with you but that thing CAN always be worse.
>>
>>45089410
The world can be consumed by a gigantic tidal wave too. Stop defending shit using hypothetical situations, it makes you look like a moron.
>>
>>45089443
Eh, i honestly don't care but if you feel that what i am doing is a bad idea i i'll stop as really i have no reason to or not to do it
>>
Is thread dead?
>>
I'm sorry. You guys deserve better than this...
I spend most of the time between updates staring at the keyboard telling myself everyone's waiting, trying to force myself to write something. Every moment I don't, it gets harder and the feeling of guilt gets worse, until I panic and throw something out in the desperate hope it's good enough.
The creative process I guess... Now you all know the secret behind the magic.
>>
>>45090331
Its okay to take breaks RWB, so long as you keep to it
>>
>>45090331
Look, i am not a writer, i don't run quests, i don't even play any Dn'D style games but what i do know is that this won't get better if you don't understand that we care about you; you bring us entertainment and are, in my eyes at least, a pioneer in the area of civilisation games based off your prior work. I know this may seem strange but you should maybe try what ever mindset you had in the beginning of this quest; then you seemed happy, proud, in control, you for instance displayed control over where this quest would go and held true to your authority.

I won't advise a break from this or you will feel like leaving it to later forever but this mindset is not healthy you must try to relax, we are here to relax knowing it causes you pain or displeasure is disheartening to me and i imagine all the others.

Please don't disappear again you brilliant man.
>>
You briefly consider postponing the festival for another time, but doing so now would probably just result in more harm than good.

There preparations for the ceremony take some time, for something that ultimately lasts only three days. On the first day, you and Beren are to host a great feast, with as much to eat as anyone could want. Beef, flatbread, fish, even fruit gathered late in the fall; everything anyone could want is in abundance, thanks largely to Mesut's co-operation. In addition to controlling the grain supply, Mesut and his extensive family, formed from the adopted members of his old hunting band, are a powerful force indeed. Anyone can hunt or gather fruit, but Mesut's numbers and skill allow him to gather a surplus, which he kindly lends to you for the sake of the festivities. The feast is a great success at raising the overall mood, but you're not sure exactly how much of a unifier it is. No-one says no to free food, but just eating alongside the herders isn't going to foster any tremendous sense of unity.

The following day, gifts are exchanged. Every family is largely self-sufficient, so these are more symbolic than anything, but the gesture is appreciated. The herders didn't miss the memo (possibly due to Beren's subtle nudging) and take the initiative to give goat hides and carved bones to each of the families of the village. Their patriarch mentions to you that he would have liked to have given a goat apiece, but with no herds of your own, the gesture seemed premature and, he laughs awkwardly, it might set a bad precedent for future generosity beyond what his family can spare! Other small gifts, mostly of frivolous things such as hand-made jewelry or instruments of bone and wood are handed around within and between families. You receive a rattle for your staff made of goat's teeth from the herders and Mesut's gift is a flute whittled from aurochs bone.
>>
>>45090881

Continue partying!
>>
>>45090881
The gifts, much more than the meal, help draw the tribe closer. No-one declines a gift and the fact that others thought of them is enough that a small sense of camaraderie starts to develop. Neither side is quite ready to see the other as family, but it's nearer than it was.

The final day is the day of the ceremony. This is your moment. You lead the older and more respected members of the families out of the village and up into the hills. The wind that teases at you is bitingly cold, but your encouragement soon brings everyone up to the Sacred Place. It strikes you that this is the largest gathering of your people before the gods that has ever happened. Your clan has made offerings to the Wild Gods before, but only in groups of two, three or four at most. Here is almost twenty; one in perhaps four or five of your people is here and every one of them can feel the difference this spot holds. A handful look around nervously. The cold is still present, but it is almost as if the warmth from everyone next to them holds more comfort than it did a moment ago.

You stand at the centre of a semi-circle of your people, looking out over your village, the thin snow covering the valley, the silver band of Nila's river leading up... This is your whole world, one you are hoping to bring together at Rhea's request. In a clear voice you invoke the gods, calling for their blessing in the coming year and for their support of your unity and strength. All at once, you feel the weave of the world flex and strain, as if a great weight were placed upon it and around you, your assembled people gasp in shock and awe. A couple scream out in fear. Your cursed eyes however do no let you see what they see and your reaching magic hands find nothing but a buffeting wall of spectral force holding them at bay.

So I have been thinking of how to gain a large amount of money/goods and by extension influence. I feel we must create trade goods like; pillows made of goat hide stuffed with their fleece ,wooden figures of the gods for people to pray at in their homes, some form of chess set or such along other such simple games, musical instruments; drums and woodwind mostly but maybe some simplistic string stuff

To get materials for these will be simple, we create a deal where the tribe whom live in the forest cut down trees and release them into the river down stream to us. In return we give them some of our new goods and stuff.

This is of course for after we unite the tribes but hey might as well plan ahead.
>>
>>45092739
Another point to raise; we only have A wife, we can have as many as we can sustain which seeing as we have a surplus means we should try for a second from, cause we would be able to ask for a part of their herd when they have enough, the herders.

>>45091815
A voice speaks directly to you, wrenching you into that half-aware state between one world and another. "Be not afraid, Tym. Your people but glimpsed us for a moment." The voice possesses many of Rhea's qualities, but it is different. While hers drifted between a softly-spoken man and a young woman, this is most definitely male. "It was appropriate to do so. We are the gods of the sacred heavens, given form and intent by human hearts. Rhea was the first of us; compassion, mercy and healing, but there are others. Courage; family; wisdom; craftsmanship; artistry; knowledge... We have always existed, but mere animals hold not the minds or hearts needed to shape us. As humans have arisen, you have caused changes within the Sacred Heavens and the Wild. Little by little, those changes formed us and now, we shall guide your people."

"Rhea has already carried our first commandment to you, as was decided upon in council." comes another voice, this one quiet and sounding centuries old with wisdom, but with the clarity of a younger man. "We are not like the gods of the Wild, who will trade their favour for offerings. Deeds and virtue are what we seek. Piety is one such virtue, yes, but the size of an offering never guarantees we shall answer."
"Our gifts for your people can be great," affirms the first, "But you will not receive them easily. If your people are virtuous and good and not greedy in their requests, then they shall have our aid. We shall not curse those that do not pay us heed, as the Wild Gods may do, but if you should come to us too full of arrogance and improper deeds weighing on your soul and then ask for a boon... Then and only then shall the wrath of Heaven shall fall upon you."
"Carry these words to your people, Godspeaker," the voices command, retreating from your mind. "From this day forth, the Heavens shall watch and guide those that seek to better the world."
>>
>>45093401
well it's time to start preaching the rules of trym godspeaker

1. don't be an asshole
>>
>>45093478
yeah that's about all i got
>>
>>45093401
So what we should tell our people is this;

"My tribe mates and allies the gods have spoken to me, new gods, different from all the other ones; these ask not for offering but for deeds, acts, faith and for us to be responsible, united and good. The first of these new gods spoke to me sometime ago, telling me to unify the tribes offering my sight as a reward. Think of that will you. let me say that again they offer sight to me. In past they have healed one of the infertile of our people. None of the other gods we have worshipped before has or maybe even could.

Welcome to a new age a age where we must do great acts of good for them in order to gain their support of these new gods, but, if we can they will give far larger boons than any other before."
>>
>>45093401
As your mind returns to your body, you become aware of Beren holding onto you, shaking you slightly, as the clan chatters and wonders behind you. The appearance of these strange new (and if Elia's description of Rhea is anything to go by, beautiful) gods has everyone in a panic. After all, more gods, means more to appease, or Horrible Things are going to happen, or so the Wild Gods have promised.

What will you do?

>Try to calm the people and restore peace - this is a holy day, after all and you're there to honour the gods. 3d10+12 (Charisma +Leader)

This seems as good a chance as any and with their attention up in the air, this is your best chance to seize the attention of many. Your tongue is thick in your mouth with the residual, blissful shock of having been in contact with what must be the 'Sacred Heavens' the gods named to you, but still, you raise your staff and step forward, calling for attention.
"Kin! Clansmen, tribesmen, listen to me!" Heads turn in your direction and gradually, quiet descends. You are the godspeaker and clearly, the gods mean to speak.
"The gods have spoken," you announce. "Not the gods of the Wild, but Gods of the Sacred Heavens. We are watched and we are judged, not for offerings, but for our deeds; for our actions, our faith and our virtue. The Gods of the Heavens seek not offerings, but to guide us, each of us, on a better path. They are gods of healing, of wisdom, of courage and kindness and this is their creed: To be good, to be harmonious and to be pious. To the just, they will grant their blessings; to the impure, they will grant silence and to the villainous... Should arrogance move you to petition these gods without virtue, then you shall feel their wrath. So have spoken the Gods of the Sacred Heavens!"

There is little sound within the crowd for a while, as they take in your words. Then questions start quietly being asked of one another, such as where the gods of the Wild fit into all this. They understand the creed, it seems, but have trouble taking it to heart. It's less loyalty to gods not even yet a generation old, but more a practical concern. The Gods of the Heavens offer much, but the Gods of the Wild control the valley's food; its water; its crops; and even the very weather and ground beneath their feet. Power like that is real and tangible in a way these new gods are not. It seems that if you wish to push the agenda of the Gods of the Heavens, you may have some work to do, on top of the trials already associated with unification.

Where did midnight come from? Have I really sat here and fretted all day?

I think I'll have to call it quits here. God, what has- I don't have an excuse or a reason. I just don't. Where the hell has the time gone? All I feel like I've done today is worry.

I'll see you all next time. Next thread will be Monday at 9pm GMT. Stay safe everyone.
