Crafting pineapple bombs hasn't been the most confusing experience you've had until this day. Astreya did most of the work since you have no magical power to speak of, but for the most part it was nothing strange or particularly weird: you just had to collect, carry and carve a lot of them. She also used some kind of copper paint to coat them, which she explained served both as sealing mechanism and to make sure they aren't confused with actual pineapples that are good for eating.

Of course you did save some, as Astreya told you to, for tonight's dinner, which was pushed back a few times since you were quite busy all considered. You had to do little more than carve them up from the top so that they could be closed again with little effort, and sealed with some glue. It seems like she has plenty of useful things scattered about the house that look quite nondescript until she explained them to you: stuff that you assumed to be ointment or cocoa butter or some sort of makeup actually had different, curious uses. At least that explains why they all smelled funny to you.

She insisted you stayed at her side even when you couldn't actually help her and just held the pineapples upright at the very best when she was working her magic. You can recognize black powder when you see it, but you can't quite tell the difference between "blast powder" and "starter powder", at least not visually. "Red powder" is another issue completely: it's bright red, but she only used it for one pineapple and painted it with a different, quite bright red paint and told you to be extra careful when packing it.

The sun is already starting to go down when she stretches her back and yawns. You now have a quite large box full of explosive pineapples, lovingly crafted with her magic fingers (literally, you presume).

"I wouldn't mind eating something", she states.

>Make dinner first and foremost.
>Give precedence to cleaning the house.
>”How are you going to send this box?”.

>Make dinner first and foremost.
>>
You find yourself to be kind of hungry and decide to give dinner precedence. After all, you've been handling pineapples almost all day and you were forbid from eating the majority of them. On the other hand, all of the tasty insides that you carved out are still available for cooking... Pity there's way too much for you to eat in one sitting, and shelled fruit, once unshelled, spoils quickly. Especially in this weather.

Fortunately, Astreya came to the rescue and informed you that she has a few jars of syrup that she keeps in her pantry just for this purpose. She also asked if you could make mostarda, but you had to admit you don't. She smiled and said not to worry, to leave the mustard alone and to just slice the excess pineapples and put them in syrup.

You do, and can them afterwards so you can be sure they will not spoil within a couple days. Fruits and vegetables have become a standard part of your diet when dinner comes around, with most of the cereals and meat coming from your breakfast and lunch.

Astreya doesn't look tremendously tired and, actually, she seems to be getting perkier and livelier once night starts to roll in and the darkening sky is filled with stars. As you find yourself staring out of the window for a moment, lost in your own thoughts, you are abruptly brought back to reality by a warm shiver that ripples and crawls up your spine and down the tip of your tail. You nearly drop a fortunately not very sharp knife as you jolt and turn, only to find a chuckling Astreya, regretfully leaving your tail alone.

"Sorry", she comments with a curious smile, "Is it that sensitive?".

>”It's extremely sensitive”.
>”Not particularly, I was just surprised”.

"It is extremely sensitive", you point out.

"Oh".

"Especially when you touch it".

"Oh you", she chuckles amused, "Well I'm not really surprised, pretty much any living being with a tail is sensitive there, I was just wondering what kind of sensitivity it was for you".

"What do you mean?", you wonder, since she made it clear that she wanted to do more than just tease you.

"Yomi is quite jumpy about his tail", she explains, the hint of amusement never leaving her smile, "But he's ticklish, so he hates it when I touch his tail because it tickles him a lot, or so he says. But he's a demon, so he's not really a prime study case for tail touching reactions. You, however, are human, you just have some demonic heritage, so I was wondering what kind of reaction you'd have".

"There's plenty of humans with tails around", Bryld and Luna just to name the first two that come to your mind, but you could have named the Wensley brothers or just about anyone else. Well, almost anyone, "It's nothing too special".

"Yes but they're... How to put it, natural tails?", she pauses for a moment, "You see, being children of Iria and Gaia us humans all have a connection to nature, meaning those of us that do have tails have... Ordinary, natural tails, that look and feel completely different to the one you have, which is typically of demonic nature", she smiles, "And yet you're not a demon, but rather a mortal, which makes you very valuable for experiments!".

“Experiments?”, your eyebrows arch spontaneously, you just can't help it, that word sounds suspicious no matter how you put it.

“Oh don't worry, it's nothing bad”, she assures you, but she has the twiddly fingers of someone who's going to tickle someone else and enjoy it, “I wouldn't even think of doing anything that could hurt my valuable familiar in any way”.

"Sure, go ahead", you answer almost without thinking. You didn't quite expect Astreya to have such lightning speed but her hands are already on your tail the moment you finish uttering your reply.

Just like getting back scratches feels wonderful due to the warm shivers you are sent all across your back and spine, having a pair of delicate and admittedly quite curious hands massaging, rubbing and poking the small roll of meat and muscle around the extension of your spine gives off a feeling that isn't much different from just having someone send those warm feelings directly through your body.

You don't think there's magic behind this, no matter how much it might feel like there is. You actually have to put the (dull) knife down in order to avoid inadvertently cutting yourself. Not that there was much left to prepare anyways, most of what you're going to eat is raw anyways. Try as you might, you can't quite hide the very physical feelings that are washing all over your body, rippling further the more she extends her curious fingers' action to the rest of your tail, all the way to its base, and then back towards the tip.

The nervous fidgeting of your legs mustn't have gone unnoticed, along with the fact you've practically been on your tiptoes for the last minute or so. "Wow, yours is so flat and smooth", she comments as she rubs every side and every part of the surface of your tail's spade-like tip, particularly focusing on rubbing the corners where it's attached to its thinner body, “Yomi's is actually quite rough here. It looks flat and smooth but it has a rubbery feeling that... If he wasn't so ticklish and jumpy I'd scratch my palms with it all the time”, she confesses.

"Are you going to get lewd?", you wonder, a bit of hopefulness slipping through your voice.

"Do you want me to?", she asks.

>”Yes, prepare to be punished”.

Just to clarify: the difference between

Is that the first puts you into a more "active" role, while the second asks for her to take the lead.

"Yes, but of course", you answer, turning to grab her shoulder and caress her face while slightly pinching her cheek with your thumb, "You better prepare to be punished for your curiosity".

"Oh no! Whatever shall I do?", she whines while shrinking her own shoulders and gently nibbling the tip of your tail while her tongue moistens and caresses the edges of your tail spade, which is admittedly quite meatier than Yomi's rather small arrow-pointed tip.

If her attempt was to get a part of you harder, you cannot, in all honesty, claim that it didn't work. Nor that only one part of you got hard because of that. Unlike Tahenohan, however, Astreya seems to be enjoying one role in particular and is less expert, or maybe even just interested, in taking advantage of your quite curious duality.

Not that she doesn't show appreciation for it or she doesn't have the curiosity, verve or even just the playfulness to experiment, but there's a huge different between her attitude, which is all in all quite passive and in line with you previous experience with her, and Tahenohan's, which really just did her darndest to make sure you would come as hard and as long as your body allows, and then some.

And when you two are done, you barely have the time to cool down a little before someone's stomach starts grumbling. Maybe yours did it first, or hers, it's not important now. It did get Astreya to chuckle instead of getting up, “Sorry, I almost made us skip dinner”.

There's no longer a single trace of sunlight outside and it is admittedly quite dark inside. Not that you need light when you're that close to each other, and you can just ask her to make some if you absolutely can't see. But you can, even if slightly, and know where the lights are.

>”Is there something special between the two of us?”.

"I'll get dinner, don't worry", you claim, ready to climb out of the sofa, but she grabs you and gently pulls you back to her side, embracing you in a way that can only mean she decided that cuddle time isn't over. Despite her being quite passive and letting you do practically anything you wanted to her just a moment before, she seems to be quite assertive in this regard, even if she still lacks any appreciable manner of forcefulness in doing so.

She wraps her legs around yours, caressing your feet and adjusting your breasts with her hand so she can rest her face on their soft flesh.

It takes a few moments before you decide to break the silence, "I'm still your familiar, right?".

"The deal was for a whole day, but I'd say you're my familiar until Yomi comes back", she chuckles, hugging you and caressing your belly and hips, "You better hope he's not late, or that he won't decide to just run away".

"Well, I was mostly wondering if this is how you usually pass time".

"People like you don't come across every day, so I would say no", she chuckles again, "What, do you think I seduce innocent people to have them do lewd things at my command just to pass time?".

"No. Well, I was just wondering if this is part of a familar's duty, too", you wonder, but even in the darkness you notice she's staring straight at you, "I mean...".

"Feel free to ask Yomi about this", is all she answers. She lets out a relaxed sigh and remains silent, content in your presence. Admittedly, you're not cold in the slightest despite being stark naked, and neither is she your presume. On the contrary, you're feeling quite hot, although your sweat can't be blamed entirely on the weather.

>”Is there something special between the two of us?”.
>”Why me?”.

You keep cuddling for a while, relaxing and letting all stress and fatigue slip away with your sweat. When hunger's call grasps both of you hard enough to best your other instincts, you decide to get up without a word. Astreya doesn't even seem to be so eager to get dressed again, pity that it's dark and you have little chance to admire her strangely alluring, ageless body.

If you have to be completely honest, she isn't even particularly striking: she has a perfectly normal banana shape, a modest if youthfully perky pair of breasts and she's a bit on the lean side while neither being as thin as Tahenohan nor having an unexpected amount of plump like Bryld. All in all nothing to write home about if you are to compare her looks with your previous experiences; except, of course, for that ageless look, but you still can't decide whether it's sexy or disturbing. Well, you can, but usually you're a bit biased by other instincts when she's naked.

And when she finds her staff and uses it to light up the room, the faint blue hue it casts makes her look a little too weird for you to decide. Besides, she dresses shortly thereafter, giving you a smile, "Better make our stomachs stop growling, don't you think?".

Not feeling like you can refuse her offer, you get to the meat of the matter. Or, well, the fruits and vegetables in this case. Which are actually welcome, you really needed something watery and fresh after that exercise.

"Have I been of any use today?", you suddenly ask at some point, "Be honest".

She looks up to you, silently pondering for a few moments. "Yes", she nods, firmly, then she smiles, "Of course I know you're no demon and can't help me with magic, that doesn't make you any less useful. Even the most humble of chores are important”. She sighs, “Besides, Yomi needed a break”.

"Do you miss him?", you wonder.

"It'd take more than one day for me to miss him", she chuckles, sounding quite amused, to the point she has to stop to chuckle some more before answering, "I mean it's true you don't really miss someone until he's gone, but we've been together so long it's like we're close even when we're not".

"Oh", you can't say you know the feeling.

"It's not like we're together all the time... Usually. I mean when I travel we do have plenty of chances to not be together all the time and we can split and be each on his own for a bit. Not long due to the nature of our relationship, but it's still a break", she flashes you a bright smile, "I haven't been tremendously active here as of late because I too am waiting for New Royo and the rest of the Reconquista to properly take root, but as soon as that happens I'll be moving around a lot more".

"I guess that means you don't feel lonely", you presume, and find answer in her gentle nod.

"I can't say I don't like being around people because I really do", she explains, "But you know... You don't get to be an Autarch if you're not the kind of weirdo that would eschew the company of her own race to go everywhere she's not supposed to go and keep tabs on multiple, strange friends. Some quite far from what you thought you'd be dealing with".

"Will you miss me?", you suddenly ask.

She looks a little surprised at first, then she smiles and squeezes your hands, "Lillith! I'm not going to disappear or anything", and she chuckles sympathetically, "Of course, we won't be seeing each other forever, and as a magic-user even before being an Autarch I have needs and callings that inevitably put me far from ordinary people. But that doesn't mean I'll be a stranger".

The ride that never ends!

"Which kind of people do you see most often?", you curiously ask, considering what she's been talking about all this time.

"You may be surprised, but it's humans", she chuckles, "It's usually them. Either the concerned sort, those that aren't aware of monster presence around them, and those that are too eager to get their genitals involved with them and need a little bit of schooling in responsible sex".

"Well I guess monster people must come from somewhere", you admit.

"Usually from monsters themselves", she smiles, "Some people claim Ishtar has corrupted the human race and injected the desire to mate with monsters, some say that she organized them to rape humans, but we all know the truth is Iria made us this way. She just didn't give us the sense of responsibility to not blame the gods for our own flaws".

"That's an interesting take", you concede, "By the way can you teach me to summon demons?".

She nearly chokes on a pineapple, coughing for a bit and almost concerning you despite her insistence that she's fine and she just got some juice down the wrong way.

When she recovers, she offers you a strange smile, "Okay, you win, I wasn't expecting that".

"Why?".

"Because I can understand you getting this idea from another demonologist, but I know how people react to Yomi. I have been asked by a very small number of people to be taught magic, and almost never to summon a demon", she looks at you with a glint in her eye, "And I'm curious as to why you're asking, especially since you're serving me as a familiar, right now".

"I feel it's the only way I can explore my demonic heritage", you claim.

"Good", she nods with a smile, "Have you tried any other way?".

"E-".

"Of course", she nods again with a smile, without even letting you begin, let alone finish.

"Hey!", you protest, and she chuckles, shaking her head.

"Sorry, sorry. It's not that you're easy to read, even though sometimes you are, it's just that I've had quite a bit of experience in the field", she sighs and looks at you, still smiling but with a more serious, and very understanding, tone, "I know magic feels like a shortcut, or the easy way, but it really isn't. Yomi is tame because he's a familiar, my familiar, and many other demonologists may make demons look and feel like tame, slightly strange humans. They aren't".

"But-".

"You clearly haven't had to deal with demons before or you wouldn't ask", she adds, this time quite seriously, "Demons are dangerous, and difficult to deal with. They are deceptively human-like, but that is because of their nature; some demonologists fail to bind their familiars, and others don't realize they haven't bound it at all. I trust Yomi, and I believe he trusts me too; we are partner, we have a strong bond, but I have about one hundred years of experience with me".

You remain silent as she stares at you with what is a stern expression for her standards, then she relaxes. "I'm sorry, I don't want to stop you, I just want you to try and consider other options before turning to this".

"I don't really know where to begin", you confess.

"We can do a guided communion", she offers, "You'll be able to contact another plane and try and find something out, and I'll ensure your safety. Would you find this arrangement to be satisfactory? If it's just magic, you might be able to learn it in some other, possibly safer way".

>”Yes, thank you”.
>”No, thank you”.
>”I'm not sure what your offer entrails”.
>”Why did you become a demonologist, then?”.

You never know with these spellcasters, maybe Astreya just hid her kookiness better than Tahe.

"Yes, thank you", you nod in appreciation, thankful for the offer, but you keep looking at her over the low table, not wondering whether it's time for you to do the dishes or not, but rather because you feel like you have an unspoken question, and staring at her gently smiling face does nothing but further build your curiosity.

"Yes?", she asks at some point.

"How did you become a demonologist?", you ask.

Her smile freezes for a moment, and she slowly sighs, as if taken by a sudden attack of gloom. "Well, I guess I might have sounded like a hypocrite, reprimanding you for how eager you were in going for demonology while I have followed this very path before you".

"I wasn't implying-".

"I know, I know", she dismissively reassures you, then smiles again and squeezes your hands, "I know. I mean it. But... Okay", she sighs, leans back on the sofa and crosses her legs, staying quite upright despite trying to relax.

"I was just like you. Acting on impulse, and admittedly on the feeling of being a burden. Not the "I'm not useful enough" kind of burden. More like a waste of skin. I can't really say I had a terrible life, but... Well, nowadays most people have forgotten about it and I doubt it will have much space in history books, but I was involved in the twenty years war between Rosedo and Visidano".

"I'm not familiar with them", you admit.

"Good", she nods, "I hope you never will be familiar with wars, even though I am afraid that's going to be difficult, especially if you stay in the Shadow Marches. I don't want to say there'll be fighting, but... The evil that plagued and destroyed these lands can't just have disappeared".

She shakes her head, "Back to my story... Where were we? Ah yes, war... I was never a soldier, I wasn't strong, not back then, and I wasn't skilled in combat. I would have died before learning from experience. I narrowly escaped deadly trouble at least twice”.

She rubs her eyes, “I couldn't just... Take it”.

>Continue.

"Nowadays, people seem to be depicting mercenaries from Verdenia as some kind of... Gentle warrior? Well, back in my time they were brutal and undisciplined. Like the god of war, but with its other heads blinded".

You don't recall how the god of war is called, as it's usually not mentioned by name, but you've seen depictions and you're aware some people carry figurines and statues, especially the military sort. Its gangly, long-limbed form is unsettling, and its utterly inhuman visage, brutally charging forward, represents the horrors that war brings. It has two more heads though, one staring straight at each side: one is masculine, representing honor, and the other is feminine, representing discipline. The god is depicted as extremely duck-footed, meaning his feet actually face sideways, as if its two human heads are meant to rein the brutality in.

Despite this, you can't claim you're terribly surprised to be hearing Astreya's recounts of war.

"There was killing and pillaging. The city-states of Verdenia reached the situation of near-stability they have today after long decades of brutal warring. They didn't stop at killing the enemy soldiers, they slaughtered the populace as well. They felt anyone outside of their own circle, their own town, was the enemy, and even the priests of Iria were slaughtered when they got caught in the middle".

She sighs, "I wanted to stop it all, but I had nothing. No riches, no skill, no strength. All I had was a strong determination".

A small, nostalgic smile forms on her lips, "And the luck of having found a master".

She looks up at you, her eyes appearing distant for a moment. She quickly focuses and shakes her head, offering a kind smile, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound so depressing. Let us clean up and go to bed, dawnbreak will dissipate this gloom as easily as it casts the night away". She squeezes your hand, “And don't you worry about any of this, promise?”.

Wow, that version is shit. At least post the real thing.

It sounds nice, but it's also not fit for Lillith at all.
