You pant a bit as the pile of corpses of you settles from your landing. It's not your pile of corpses. The group fighting on board Milly's ship, which included Nytora, did pretty well repelling boarders. They repelled them so hard they died from it. After a moment the crew relaxes once they recognize you as the flying monster that doesn't eat them.

Unless they're jerks.

That's the policy.

"Are you goings to eats these?" you ask looking at the growing pile of fishman corpses. Your stomach rumbles loud and proud at the prospect of food. Stupid curse.

There's a lot of shaking heads all around. Now you get to demonstrate the jerk eating policy.

As you lower your head to dig in you see Nytora stop with shock and stare at you. What is it? Is there something on your face? You havent started eating yet.

She continues to stare in growing horror and you tilt your head befuddled. Slowly a clawed hand raises to point at her head, then at yours. What? Oh is she pointing at her hat? Why-

With great fear in your heart you feel the top of your head. Your hat is gone. You'd gotten so used to wearing it that you sometimes forget that it's there. Even the last time you did this diving thing you saw it floating where you'd dived in so you exited the water underneath it and it fixed itself back in place almost like magic. Since it was dark you didn't see it when you surfaced this time.

You take a deep breath and try not to panic. Then you erupt screaming off the ship hard enough that it lists 45 degrees to one side.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!" you screech.

You sail up and over the spot where you're pretty sure you dove into the water. Unless the boat moved after you dove in. Or the hat moved. Things don't move on the water unless you make them right? You're probably fine.

Or rather you aren't because there is NO HAT. You start spiralling out from where you're like, really sure you dove in. Pushing your light to your limits you briefly think you can see shadows moving under the water. THERE IS NO HAT.

After a couple minutes of growing spiral you spot a dark spot floating on the water. One of the shadows, closer to the hat then you, also seems to have noticed it and is moving in that direction. Maybe. You may be panicking.

You enter the basking trance easily, despite your emotional state. Champion basking. But there's no sun right now. Instead your own light flickers out, as your personal sun-like qualities warm yourself, faintly. You're not getting power very quickly at all.

Too make matters worse you momentarily lose sight of both your targets. You stay on course as well as you can. You nearly pass over the thing you thought was your hat, and as you do you see something yank it under the water.

A second after word you hit the water like a ton of angry lizard.

Your light flickers back for a moment and you see a shell shocked fishman with your hat in its filthy mitts. It stares for a moment then bolts with alarming speed.

Rage. Anger and rage and murder. You will destroy this fishman. How dare it? Dare it HOW?

You claw and thrash and murder the water in your haste to pursue it. Your bask lost, the energy from it lashes out of you and your muscles seize, nearly freezing you in place. Sparks of light streak off you like a giant lizard shaped sparkler and you barely manage to keep any forward momentum at all.

In moments the fishman has left the area, and you screech in anger and pain into the sea, waiting for the energy circulating through your body to dissipate.

Then you catch a glimpse of a ring of teeth and everything goes dark except for the occasional spark lighting up meat innards.

Half an hour later you pull the corpse of the giant fish that tried to eat you alongside Milly's ship, and get the crew to start processing the body. Stupid fish. You've murdered better things that have tried to eat you. The inside of the fish was a great place to work out the hotter parts of your anger.

The cold parts are still intact though.

You climb aboard ship and meet Milly and Nytora's gaze evenly.

You stomp over to the pile of fishman corpses, unmoved from its spot on the edge of the ship, ready to be pushed off. No one apparently wanted to move it without asking first. That's nice of them.

You release fire in an unending stream on the bodies, immediately drying out the bodies and setting them aflame. Then you take another breath and do it again until you notice crewmen having to throw buckets of water on parts of the ship that you caught in the blast. The flames burn merrily on the corpses rendering them nearly unrecognizable. That suits you fine. Maybe not ALL of your anger was worked out on the fish.

You plop down next to the still burning pyre and dig in. You're not picky about whether your food is cooked or not. You're not sure food still on fire counts as either, but the fire doesn't bother you as you start tearing strips of meat off and swallowing it.

"Sunniva, ares you okay?" Nytora asks.

"You seem... angry," Milly confirms.

"Don't wants to talk about it," you grumble between bites.

Stupid fishmen.

Stupid fish monster.

Why does a fishman even needs a hat?

Why does he needs YOUR hat?

You'll gives him a hat... You'll gives him a hat so hard it caves his skull in and sets it on fire.

Milly and Nytora exchange a look, and turn to have a private conference. You catch the word "hat" in it repeated more than once. Apparently you weren't muttering as quietly as you thought.

You ignore them and continue gorging yourself on the flesh of jerks. You're still hungry, but your stomach is distended and you feel bloated at the same time. You may have just eaten three quarters your weight in fishman.

With some reluctance, you part from the fish pile and drag yourself over to your sister and friend.

"Hey," you greet them, flopping onto the deck.

"Hey."

"Hello."

"Where's your hat?" Nytora asks. Milly turns and looks at her shocked.

You shrug.

"Fishman stoles it," you grumble, little flames leaking out of the sides of your mouth. Milly looks at you now. Apparently she didn't expect you to answer.

"Oh," Nytora blinks, "Gonna tracks it down at its home?"

"Probably. Right now I'm considerings getting Mom and ENDINGs THEIR ENTIRE VILLAGE," you rumble menacingly, then you think a second, "Do they lives in villages?"

"Uhm, yes?" Milly answers, "A couple of them, up and down the coast."

"Right."

You notice the crew is giving you a wide berth. Even the lizards.

"What's wrongs with them?"

"You're kind of hot right now," Milly explains, then she turns red for some reason and speaks quickly, "In the temperature way. Not that you aren't pretty."

"Is there another way to bes hot?" Nytora asks, confused.

You take a moment to try and be less hot. It probably be easier if you hadn't just eaten a significant amount of burning meat. Your temper isn't helping. For some reason you can't get the fire to turn off when you talk.

"So we're goings to get Kasha?" Nytora returns her attention to you when it becomes obvious that Milly is too red and embarrased to talk. That can't be healthy. Is she hot too?

You shake your head.

"Gonna gets you in the hole first," you tell her, languidly sliding your tail around the deck. At least your tail is fine.

Nytora rolls her eyes at that.

"Do we has to go now? I wants to murder fishmen too."

You shrug. "Hole is safer."

"But nothing has even brokens recently. Movings around seems to work."

There's that.

"What's this about a hole?" Milly asks.

You explain Nytora's problem as best as you understand it. Which is largely, the universe is trying to explode Nytora, and when it figures out where she is it starts shotting, and missing. Misses still break things.

Milly seems alarmed to hear that and appears conflicted.

"Can you please spend less time on my ship?" she asks warily. "They don't work well when chunks of it break."

You and Nytora nod.

"If you want though, I was planning to head to town with the ship tomorrow. We could grab you a new hat while we're there."

>>
>>44845666
"Alright," you agree. "If you can find one."

Nytora seems disappointed.

"Still going to go kills all those fishmen though," you tell her.

Nytora approves.

You get Milly to tell you where the nearest fishman village is and she gives you directions. She describes it as a fairly small one. The only reason the lizards haven't wiped it out is because it's too deep to really bother with usually. The merrow just can't be bothered to deal with such a small number of fishmen when there are bigger fish to fry.

They don't literally fry them though. That requires stuff that doesn't work underwater. Like fire.

"Let's go gets Kasha," you tell Nytora, who appreas pleased to not have to sit in a hole, "Did you wants in on the fish murder?" you ask Milly.

"I should stick with my crew..." she hems, "but come grab me before you go. They owe me for damages to my ship."

You think she's going to be good at this pirate thing.

It takes you a couple tries to get into the air, and finally you have to take off without Nytora before you can fly at all. You maybe should've eaten less. You do a close flyby of the ship and snatch Nytora up with your feet.

Flying is hard, but Nytora manages to climb up from your legs onto your back. Already in the air you can still manage the weight, but you can't maneuver to save your life. You hope you don't run in to any giant birds trying to murder you.

You give the bat its space and it ignores you. You're probably bigger than its normal prey. Also terrifying fire lizard. Probably the last thing.

It takes you a while to float back home. You actually miss it once as you fail to recognize if from the air at night. Luckily, Mom is the only lizard around here with a ridiculously tall pile of boulders out front. You found the tower of boulders by almost crashing into it. Instead you manage a graceful facefirst landing into the mud, with Nytora doing one of her fancy dismounts to avoid a similar fate.

"You needs to practice flying more," she suggests.

"Don't sees you do better," you grumble.

"I didn't crash," she says.

You make a rude gesture at her and pry yourself out of the mud. Judging by the sounds from the house everyone has already gone to sleep.

NYTORA MODE

You watch Sunniva dig herself out of the mud and head into the house. She's looked pretty rough since she lost her hat, and she's been a huge grump. You choose to sit outside and enjoy the night for a bit.

Inside you can hear Sunniva trying to wake up Kasha. You still don't like her, and she's definitely not YOUR Mom. So you'll stick with Kasha. Judging by the sounds, she's being stubborn about waking up.

Sunniva's "Hey wakes up"s are becoming louder. Thumps. She probably tried to make Kasha move by messing with her legs or tail. Smacking.

You flinch at the sound of a loud crash and you see the house shake as something gets thrown around. There's a little flash of light from inside, probably Sunniva losing her temperature and, consequentially, control of her fire breath.

THe light moves back into the room where Kasha is sleeping and you can now here Sunny's voice, quite irate, telling off her mother and telling her to wake up. There's a loud noise like someone hocking a loogie and the light goes out in the room, replaced by muffled screaming from Sunniva.

You have no idea what happened there.

After a minute the screaming stops and you hear something breaking as a hole appears in one of the walls of the building.

Nothing happens for a bit except for the sound of something being dragged, then you flinch again when an explosion goes off in the building and you see Kasha come sailing out through the wall of her room. She rolls to a stop outside, she looks unharmed. In the remains of her room you can see Sunniva standing in an aggressive pose, her scales ablaze with bright flames.

One of the black voids that makes up Kasha's eyes opens and looks at Sunny, then the others open as they narrow to glare at the winged lizard.

"Did you just make a hole in my house?"

"You wouldn't wakes up," you complain. "Fishmen tooks my hat, and I wants you to help me gets it back. Lots of fishmen to kill." You say hurriedly.

Mom cracks her neck.

"Sunny, do you knows why I nameds you the way I did?" she asks.

You have no idea what that has to do with anything. You shake your head no.

"It's not because you'res my brightest kid," she says, standing up, why do you keep forgetting how huge she is?

"Now, I'm goings to ground you for breaking my house."

You start to try and explain again, but -whoa shit.

A headbutt passes through the air where you'd just been standing, your desperate dodge barely getting you out of Mom's warpath. You don't miss her follow up punch, but then neither does she. The air in your body is forced out as she hits you center mass, then you fly out through the other side of the house, punching another lizard shaped hole in it.

You sail a fair distance before you manage to get your wings straightened out and control your fall. Then something heavy settles down across your neck and forces you to the ground. Mom already caught up and she's changing colors as she looks down at you with empty eyes, her hand pressing you down into the loose mud with her weight.

"But you just brokes your house too," you wheeze.

"Yes but I brokes MY house. Now grits your teeth."

You feel her other hand wrap around that appendage you never figured out what to call. The thing that comes off your wrist so you can spread the wing. Then she starts applying painful amounts of pressure

"What are you doings?" you ask frantically.

"Groundings you."

You can feel something creaking in your wing thing. You start babbling, trying to defer her by talking about how Nytora needs you to do a thing. Then give it up as a bad job and push your personal light to its limit.

A blinding flash lights the nighttime swamp and your mom wails and rubs at her eyes. Usually you don't get a response that strong, but either she's got really sensitive eyes, or her eyes were really adjusted to the darkness. Maybe both. Whatever it is, you don't waste her slackening grip and manage to roll loose in the mud. You break into the crawling run your body works best with. THen you take off. You hear a loud snap just behind you around where your tail should be.

You don't check behind you. You just fly like demons are chasing you. Because what's chasing you is worse. SLowly you get altitude, sacrificing climb speed to jink around mom's purple glue loogies.

"Don't makes me come after you," you hear her roar behind you, "It'll only makes it worse!"

Well crap. Your hat is gone, your Mom is pissed at you, and you may have just left another lizard that bears a strong resemblance to you next to your angry mom. Tonight sucks.

You catch a night breeze under your wings and think about what to do now.

>That's it for tonight. Standby for an omake in a bit afterword.
>I'll run again next weekend once I figure out plans. I'm shooting for once a week.
>Feel free to ask shit I'll be around a while.

"And that's why I became an adventurer," Sunniva finished, taking in the sympathetic nods of her audience.

The adventurer's guild on the east side of the continent was warm and filled with the excited chatter that only comes when an adventurer was telling stories.Around the room brave men and women ordered drinks and told tall tales like every other gathering of adventurers in the world.

THe exception for this crowed however was the large dragon-like lizard sitting at the center of a semi-circle of chairs, telling about how it's mother tried to break its wings.

>omake canon
>omake non-canon
>>
>>44848473
Well shit that escalated quickly, thanks for running boss.
>>
>>44848488
>>omake non-canon

Uh
>>
>>44848488
>>omake non-canon
I doubt Ma would break Sunni's wings. Glooping her after kicking her ass seems more likely.

You were about to commit fishman genocide for one of them stealing a hat.

Then you punched a hole through something that belonged to your Mom who is much more fighty. And as lizard houses going, hers is really nice.

Besides, to her mind your wings would fix themselves. Eventually.
>>
>>44848558
I'm sure we just have to fly around and let her sleep the angry off, we'll bring her something nice for breakfast.
>>
>>44848558
...whelp we had to move out of the house at some point and I trust Nytora enough book it for the time hole while a pissed off mom was trying to kick our ass

we lost our tail again didn't we?
>>
>>44848665
Nah, tail is fine.

>>44848589
That's certainly a plan
>>
>>44848689
I've been chased by angry mothers more than once
>>
>>44848558
Mom was right to try and clip wings. Lizards don't belong in the sky.

Nice thread, Iguana-brain. Keep up the good work.
>>
>>44848689
thanks for running tonight Lamb

>>44848729
>>44848811

>>
>>44848891
Shall I ready the solar cannon my lizard liege?
>>
>>44848932
mix fire breath with solarbeam go full godzilla
>>
>>44848891
so, just a random thought, how do lizard home owning work? Do we just build it ourselves, do we buy one, do we just force someone out of a house they already made, or what. I ask for reasons that have ABSOLUTELY no reason to do with a pissed off mega mom, I swear.
>>
>>44848558
aww don't be to hard on Sunny Lamb i get genocidal feelings when i'm hungry to but mine are more towards chickens and cows than fish
>>
>>44848891
so lamb what's the rest of our family going to think of this little stunt?
>>
>>44848932
No. Give them a couple years to clean this shit up.

>>44848968
Go for it

>>44848983
All of the above.

>>44849042
Pretty sure Sunny would still insist on killing at least one village of fishmen even if she got her hat back.

>>44849081
Well, you'd have to ask them. But I'll tell you Dad is wondering who the strange winged lizard was.
>>
>>44849133
>But I'll tell you Dad is wondering who the strange winged lizard was.
that guy seriously has to pull his head out of his ass. I mean I could kind of understand when all the kids first hatched but by this point he should at least a fucking idea just who his damn kids are, especially the ones that evolved as they tend to stand out in a crowd.
>>
>>44849133
>>44849042
I know i meant that being cursed with eternal hunger would make one more than a little genocidal
>>
>>44849197
Thought I'd said Dad could tell you from the others now a while back.

>>44849233
Ah
>>
>>44849286
>Thought I'd said Dad could tell you from the others now a while back.
you did, I just thought you meant he forgot again
>>
>>44849286

>>
>>44849463

>>44849371
