Five years ago, the world was changed for you forever in a flash of blue radiance. This strange event bestowed wondrous powers on you and many others. Even if there were ones before, this new generation of heroes and villains was unprecedented in size. Your powers almost netted you enough money to pull you out of poverty, but you just couldn't bring yourself to steal. Your job already lost, you soon lost your apartment, leaving you on the street.

Three years ago, the same blue light shined worldwide in an event known as "The Pow Boom". If you were still a writer for a newspaper, you would have slapped the guy who came up with that name. Unfortunately it stuck. Governments changed, the International Heroes Union collapsed as law enforcement were also affected by the surge in Supers. Ten percent of the population had just gained powers for better or worse, and the US has been working on legislation. The newest is an anonymous, voluntary catalog of powers, but Congress hasn't agreed on Supers for years.

Through all this, you continued to help others as a vigilante, saving people as you found them and stopping muggers. One guy even gave you a used car a few months ago because you saved him from a fire. The surge in people doing the same means you have no name yet, but those you saved simply call you the angel in the shadows. Not exactly catchy, but flattering all the same. You are Raphael Gaus, and the year is 2023.

You wake up to a trashcan falling over down the alley you're parked in and a scream from the same direction. Immediately you recognize the silhouette of a man holding a knife, and he seems to be threatening somebody you can't make out. This might be a chance to try out your new costume, so you slip the robe from your backpack over your clothes and put on the mask. With a click, the mask switches to thermal vision and you can see the victims, an old couple, and the purse that one of them has.

Experience with others wearing it has taught you that knives won't pierce nanoarmor, so this guy couldn't possibly hurt you. Unless he's also a Super that is. Which case he could shoot you with his mind or something like that, but he can't be a high rank otherwise he would be doing more nefarious stuff. He doesn't look like an experienced mugger either.

The old couple seem to be cowering behind a dumpster as the mugger holds them at knifepoint. There is one advantage to sleeping in alleys, your ink blends into the darkness perfectly.

Off to a great start. Writing.
>>
You pour some ink onto the center console of the car and begin willing it into a winding shape that eventually becomes the perfect slihouette of a cobra. You then begin adding moore and more ink from your bottle until it pulls off of the surface and becomes a large snake. You pop open the door to your car and hit a trashcan with the door, which causes the mugger to look your way.

"Whoever ya are, this aint none of ya fuckin' business." His voice sounds too high for him to be more than 20, probably just a kid who wants some money. Your snake slithers out of the car into the shadows, fading into the darkness.

A moment later the snake rears up and hisses at the mugger, causing him to scream and slash at the snake with the knife. You could swear that the knife grew hotter for a second, but it didn't damage the ink, and the snake wraps around him in a grip that would make an anaconda jealous. The old couple are still cowering behind the dumpster and clutching the purse. You know people aren't willing to part with money, but you wonder what else is so important in that purse.

You walk slowly out of the car and enter from the shadows causing the mugger to yelp and close his eyes.

"Dude! Please, please don't kill me! I-I'll go work at a hobo shelter, anything, just don't kill me!"

>"Take all of the money from your wallet, leave it here, and never do this again." (Release him)

You simply stand in front of him as the snake elongates and grasps onto a lamppost above the alley and hangs the crook upside down, the police should show up before the snake melts away. He screams from up above, but you help up the old woman with the purse and she breathes a sigh of relief.

"Thank you, this has my medication in it. If he'd taken it, well, I don't know what I would've done." She smiles brightly in the shade of the alley, causing you to do the same behind the mask. The old man stands up and pulls his wallet out.

"Here, It's not much, but here's some money. It's the least we can do."

He's holding out a hundred, the kid really was an idiot. He was dead-set on that purse but this guy obviously had the money. You don't know if you should take this, this could feed you for two weeks. Wait, this isn't a question, you need the money. You take the bill and the man shakes your hand.

The lady was calling the cops while you were talking with the man, and she thanks you one more time and leaves. Overall, this was a very good night. The kid's starting to quiet down, you could pprobably just go back to your car with nobody noticing too. So you do.

You take off your costume and sit in the car.

You start working with your pens and juggling them about, trying to increase the number you can control at once and making them go in more refined patterns. Eventually you get 10 of them to start spinning independently in different directions. Your control over your powers has improved drastically over the years, but you still have trouble controlling bulk amounts of ink when they aren't constructs. Not to mention that moving ink is rather slow and tiring. You should have been doing this sort of thing earlier, but you didn't get what was happening to you and just wanted to continue as normal.

The sun begins to rise and your stomach growls, you really wish you could make some bacon or something instead of buying food. You place the pens back in your bag and sling it behind your back, opening the door into the solemn hues of the sunrise. The criminal is noticably gone, but you saw a cop pick him up so it's no big deal. The snake is now a pool of ink on the ground which you subtly put back into its bottle.

The dark streets of the Mercury Projects begin to light up with the fiery colors of a summer day as you walk out of the alley.

You open the door to Mercury Eats and take a seat at the counter. You open up the menu and pick out the old standard eggs and bacon. The waitress seems put off by your rough appearance but doesn't seem to care that much. This isn't exactly Downtown. The only other person up this early seems to be a guy sitting at a table drinking some coffee and reading the paper. The waitress pours you a cup of coffee and soon brings out your food. You voraciously tear into the eggs.

After quelling your hunger, you think a bit on what you could do today. Maybe a publisher finally found your novel and sent you something, so maybe check your PO Box. The fees are definitely worth the possibility of money on that box. You could also actively seek out a job, you've been unemployed for a long time. Maybe you could make a good sketch artist or something.

Of course, you could just keep doing what you have been and patrol for crime. It seems to rake in the occasional payday. Maybe even start a new novel, especially if this one is a dud.

>Progress (7/25)

You start writing a basic premise for a novel, a robot who doesn't know he's a robot. Not entirely original, but new details should surface later on. You begin the first ideas about the world and write down some ideas about characters in notes. You begin reading over what you have and find it really interesting and rife with potential. Of course you thought that about your last novel, so you might want to get somebody to read it.

You sip the coffee from the disposable plastic cup as you walk to your car. This might work out if the rest of the book goes this well, but you just can't predict what will catch on. When you get back to your car the sun is already high in the sky and people crowd the streets. You could continue writing here, or you could go out and patrol. The PO Box has been present in your mind and you could check it while patrolling.

You go check your PO Box and find a check from a local publisher who read your novel and decided to publish it. It's not a lot, only $500, but to you it's a godsend. They say that if it does well there might be more checks, but not to get your hopes up. They publish tons of books that never reach a profitable popularity. Happy, you decide to patrol the Projects.

You don your costume and begin skating across rooftops with ink. The wind blows your robes, causing them to billow regally. You hear an alarm in the distance and begin rushing for it, seemingly coming from the Museum of Natural History. You perch on the rooftop above it to find a man in an old ratty suit standing ontop of a T-Rex skeleton. The skeleton appears to be moving.

"Behold! I am the Curator, and I demand you to bow to me and my army of dinosaurs! Fret not, for I am a merciful ruler, comply now and I won't kill you!" He has a nasally voice and the skeleton begins to open its mouth, letting oout a roar accompanied by the sound of rattling bones.

You pour out ten bottles of ink and begin shaping them, taking a toll on you. The silhouette of a large dragon begins to form on the rooftop, then begins to pull in the ink. Your brow starts sweating and you feel clammy as you pull the dragon up, it finally removes its foot from the rooftop and stands up. You fall to one knee from the effort and then stand up. The dragon stands about 15 feet tall and makes no noise as its foot hits the rooftop. It might be a bit hollow, but that shouldn't matter.

The dragon jumps from the roof and lands in front of the skeleton, letting out a thundering roar. You don't think you'd be good for another drawing this fight, you feel like you ran a marathon. The T-Rex also roars and begins charging the dragon. The Curator slips off of it's back down its bony tail to the ground.

Honestly that's how I am stumbling through life right now. Nice to have a hero I can relate too.

Also that would be a really broken but hilarious superpower, just making the people fighting against you slightly worse than you are doing. The more incompetent you are the better.
>>
You shoot a pen at the Curator and are off by a mile, he doesn't even see you. The T-Rex bites at the dragon and it goes straight through it, causing no damage. The dragon responds in kind by swinging its claws and knocking the T-Rex's head across the courtyard. Right into The Curator.

The rest of the skeleton drops the second the head comes off, and The Curator ends up pinned under the skull. He seems to be out cold and the crowd cheers. The dragon roars and flies up to the rooftop you're on, where you portion it back out into the bottles. One bottle of ink is absent, but that's okay, you have plenty. The crowd claps as they notice you, then you skate away. You change and make it back to your car, then pass out in the driver's seat.

>The Next Day...

The papers are buzzing with news about the strange shadow dragon that stopped a villainous rampage yesterday. Some are wondering if a new S rank hero is involved, others seem convinced that you can summon demons. Either way, your first noteworthy battle has earned you a few tentative names, each from different publications.

The frontrunner for them now is The Shadow, but it seems more like a title than a name. Another that's popular among the younger crowd is Shadowmancer, though the even younger just like Dragon-Man. The ones who actually did research found leftover ink so they call you Inkblot. You could probably come up with a better name yourself.

You put down the paper and begin looking through your novel ideas and are pleasantly surprised. The ideas still seem good, great even. As long as the actual story is as good, you feel like you have a hit. You head to Soup or Heroes for lunch and get the special. Hoagie brings out a turkey sandwich and tomato soup.

"Ey Raph, ya hear 'bout that guy in da paper? Damn impressive, don'tcha think?" He's winking at you. "Yeah, people were takin' names for tha guy, so I thought I'd throw my name in da hat. How does Scribe sound?"

"That... I actually like that."

"I know right!"

You sip a glass of water as you look out the window. That's your favorite thing about this place, even if plastic is cheap, Hoagie insists on actual pottery and glassware. It really helps you get back to the happy days when you sat down at your desk and wrote about this sort of thing instead of living it. Things may not be that way now, but they are getting better. And that's all you could ask for...

Thank you for tuning in for Issue 22 of SuperHuman Legacy Quest! My twitter is @xLostCowboyx I post there when I plan on running. This thread's question is "What Perks would you like to see for Raphael?"
>>
>>44845091
Something that gives his constructs sentience.
>>
>>44845091
Better hardier constructs, Using thinned ink more efficiently, Self buffing, Blood as ink, shields, increase hardness, pen railguns

>Written by the Victors: Gives a +5 bonus to most rolls for a short time following successful combat, and an additional +10 strictly to diplomacy.

>Set in Stone: Allows ink constructs to be made on stone and other minerals as easily as they are on paper.

>Re-write: At a cost of a FUCKTON of stamina (which will translate as a -20 and heavy fatigue) a single roll can be rerolled. How exactly this manifests is up to QM discretion.

Technologic: Allows devices of varying complexity to be made out of ink. The limit on complexity is determined by Control.

Maybe
>>44845194
Lots of good ideas here
>>44845231
Same here, might tweak a few of these.
>>
>>44845091

Some high tier ideas

>Invisible Ink: Able to create constructs only able to be viewed under blacklight or other wavelengths

>Plagiarism: Under to use already printed pages for constructs such as pulling an image from an advertisement.

>Imagination come to life: By writing down what Raphael wants the construct to do and then animating it constructs are able to sustain themselves until they are destroyed or fulfill their instructions. (Instructions cannot comprise more than 3 orders/contingencies)
>>
>>44845742
Okay, those are very high tier, so we'll see.
>>
>>44845978

Fair enough, I hope we can get to the point we can use them
>>
>>44845091

>First Person Narrative: Raphael is able to sense through the constructs, though his own senses are disabled during this time
