The very next day after his arrival, Kaito is summoned to the throne room. Queen Sindel and King Jerrod sit upon their thrones while Princess Kitana, Liu Kang and Jade stand off to one side. Smoke stands next to Jade, though their daughter appears either absent or invisible. Asgaarth, once more the personal advisor to the king, stands directly behind and to the right of his throne. There are others here as well; edenian nobles that Kaito has only recently become acquainted with. A small group of elite Edenian Knights led by Captain Shendu are here as well.

Kaito feels a bit sleepy. The feast last night held in his honor was almost too much for him to handle. Thankfully, after twenty years of not eating food, his body appears to be digesting it all rather quickly. He stands at attention in the heart of the throne room floor. King Jerrod is the first to speak.

"Kaito, we have summoned you here to discuss an issue of great importance to us in relation to your ship."

"What about my boat, your majesty?"

"We are happy to return it to you; we have other means of making diplomatic journeys to other realms. However, we feel it very important that you understand the situation in other realms. Things have changed in the twenty years you have been away."

He nods. "Please do. I was hoping to visit Outworld next."

Sindel speaks. "Yes... We know not what you have been told about Outworld, but we have growing concerns about the reign of Kotal Kahn."

"Do you think he will set his sights on invasion?"

"Truthfully, no," she replies. "Kotal does not seem interested in conquest. However, his rule is ironclad and unwavering. Those within his lands must obey all laws or be strictly punished."

"Is he unfair?"

"It is not that he is cruel or without mercy," Jerrod says, "and he is very wise in the ways of diplomacy, but there are those who wish to break free from his rule and he will not allow them to do so."

Sindel nods to Kitana. "Edenia has set an example for many people in Outworld. Many realms that Shao Kahn once conquered through Mortal Kombat now desire to be set free and returned to their own place of existence in the cosmos."

"That doesn't sound so bad," Kaito admits. "Why would he refuse them?"

Jerrod answers. "Because Outworld is the power that it is because of Shao Kahn, and before him, Onaga. With each realm that would part from Outworld, it would weaken. To kingdoms who care only for their own, such as the shokan and the tarkatans, this is not a very concerning issue. But Kotal Kahn controls a much larger kingdom than they, with a much more diverse population. Outworlders, centaurs, amazons, saurians and Kotal's own people, the osh-tekk, and those are merely the most notable. There are many others who are only now returning to the forefront of Outworld's politics now that Shao Kahn is no more."

"So, what does this all have to do with me?" Kaito asks.

Sindel says, "We wanted to ensure that you knew what Outworld's current situation was before sending you off. Furthermore, as one who helped destroy Shao Kahn and liberate Edenia, we have little doubt that you may be approached by others who would seek your aid in doing the same for their realm."

Kitana continues, "But under Kotal's laws, this act would be treasonous. Doing so would bring you into conflict with Kotal, who has control over the means to free the various realms under his rule, inherited by Shao Kahn's treasure rooms."

Kaito folds his arms and thinks for a moment. "Are you worried that I will try to free more realms?"

"You are very noble, Kaito," Sindel says, "but doing so may bring more consequences than not. Outworld and Edenia are currently at peace, as are Edenia and Earthrealm. Orderrealm and Chaosrealm remain neutral and interested only in their own struggle, which occasionally spills out into other realms, and the Netherrealm remains leaderless for now, and thus concerned only with its own inner conflict. If other realms are returned, there is little way to predict what role they will play."

"I think I see what you're saying, your highness," Kaito replies. "It may not be better to have too many pieces on the chess board, as it were. But is it worth it leaving those realms subjugated under Kotal Kahn's rule rather than allow them to be free?"

Liu Kang steps forward and speaks now. "Perhaps so, Kaito, but involving yourself in the power struggle of Outworld may be wrong. I have always fought for the defense of Earthrealm, and now that Shao Kahn and Shinnok are gone, peace reigns. So long as Outworld's rule brings no danger to Earthrealm, I believe it is for them to decide how to rule themselves. No one from Outworld is attempting to change the leadership of Earthrealm."

"True..." Kaito says to the Shaolin monk. "Alright, you have my word that I won't try to mess around with Outworld politics if I can help it."

"That is all we ask," Jerrod says. "Very well, Kaito. We fully return to you the Dragon Wing. In addition to the gifts from the edenian people, we have stocked it with supplies; food and drink. You are welcome here at the palace and are free to come and go as you please."

With a clap of his hands, the meeting is adjourned and everyone begins to either leave the room or talk amongst themselves, leaving Kaito free to choose what to do next.

As the throne room picks back up with chatter, Kaito approached Asgaarth, the second ally he made in the fight to free Edenia, though he did not know it at the time. As he nears, the tall eagleman bows to him, and Kaito does the same.

"Well met," Asgaarth greets him. "Did you sleep well?"

"I did," Kaito replies with a smile. "Edenian sheets are wonderful. What do you stuff those pillows with?"

"Feathers, of course," Asgaarth replies, holding up a feathered arm.

Kaito is still for a moment, but when Asgaarth lets out an uproarious laugh, he joins him.

"What can I do for you?" he asks the human.

"I am told you have a scout. Korbin by name, if I am correct."

"Yes, I do. He is my chief scout and spy. How do you know him?"

"Just picked up his name from conversation," Kaito is quick to lie. "I'm interested in meeting him. Is he around?"

"Yes, he is. I can send for him, if you like. Have you need of a scout?"

"I'm just interested in meeting him, is all," Kaito says. "He sounds interesting."

Asgaarth nods. A few minutes later, Korbin walks into the throne room, beckoned by Asgaarth through the use of a throne page. Kaito looks at the raven man as he enters. He looks healthier than when he knew him as Otiak, and no longer bears an eyepatch. He is dressed more casually, befitting a royal spy.

Asgaarth introduces him to Kaito, and they shake hands. "I've heard much about you," Korbin says. "I am glad to finally meet you."

"The same," Kaito says. It's strange; in the back of his mind, he almost regrets that Korbin doesn't remember any of the adventures they had together. But given that he seems much healthier and not as disconnected as when he first met him, perhaps it's all for the best.

After exchanging some pleasantries, Kaito parts with them both and they speak to each other as the human heads towards the king and queen.

"I wanted to personally thank you for the feast and the overwhelming reception," Kaito says to them.

"It's the least we could do," Sindel is quick to reply.

"Honestly, the only thing that could top it would be a parade," Kaito jokes.

Jerrod looks at his bride. "We could have a parade. When was the last time we had one?"

Before she can reply, Kaito holds up a hand. "No! I mean, that's perfectly alright, your majesty. I'm not really a parade kind of man."

Jerrod chuckles as Sindel places a hand on Kaito's shoulder. "Well, should you ever change your mind, the edenian people would be more than happy to oblige, I'm certain."

Kaito returns her smile but then changes the subject. "I was hoping you could offer me some more insight into the current situation in Kotal's court."

"What would you like to know?" Jerrod asks.

"Who is your primary ambassador to them?"

Sindel speaks. "With the traitorous Tanya and her family locked away, we were initially without a proper ambassador to other realms. However, in this regard, Kitana has stepped up to be the face of Edenia. With her good relations to various figures in both Earthrealm and Outworld, this has been a strategic position for the royal family in inter-realm politics."

"I'm curious--what realms are trying to break away from Kotal's rule?"

Now, Jerrod speaks. "Shao Kahn conquered many realms, some of which are lost to recorded history, but not to their former peoples. Much like how the birdfolk and catfolk are returning to Edenia after millenia of hiding, so too are many other races and cultures from many lost realms that are only now beginning to reveal themselves now that the tyranny of the former Emperor is no more."

Sindel once more continues, "The human-like Outworlders are often descendents of realms that have mingled and interbred; many of their original realms are now lost, even amongst themselves. Others, however, have managed to stay more isolated or pure of bloodline, such as the centaurians or the shokan. While these races are traditionally associated with Outworld due to being apart of it for so long, they are not originally from it."

"And some species, such as the tarkatans, are immigrants," Jerrod adds. "They too now call Outworld thier home and know no other realm."

"Who would you say are the most vocal in their attempts to split from Outworld?"

Sindel looks over at Kitana. "Our daughter has reported that the Amazons of the south are threatening to make war with Kotal to try to win the liberation of their former realm, Ilkan. We have no diplomatic connections to them and do not support them in any way, mostly due to past grievances with Kitana and Jade against their leader, Zara."

Kaito remembers that Jade was once brainwashed into fighting alongside the Amazons as the green-clad warrior woman known as Mantis. He can understand why there would be a bit of hostility there.

"Speaking of Kitana," Kaito says, "have she and Liu Kang announced anything official yet?"

Sindel and Jerrod share a look. "Edenian courtship can last a very long time," Sindel says to him. "We do not pressure them and I trust in my daughter's judgment."

"The shokan maintain independence north of Kotal Kahn's lands; the lands of the Kuatan Jungle and all north of it belong to them. This is the domain of King Duroc. The tigrar and those loyal to the former king, Gorbak, attempted a rebellion but their forces were defeated by a combined army of Kotal Kahn, the shokan and the tarkatans. However, this is the last time the three of them cooperated; the centaurs eventually swore fealty to Kotal Kahn. Due to old hatreds among their people, the shokan have not diplomatically associated with Kotal Kahn outside of respecting his territories."

"What about the tarkatans? I heard they were getting along with King Duroc's people."

"This is true, but the tarkatans are inherently a wild people. Peace does not suit them. In order to keep the nomadic nature of his people in tact, Tortek led them south, into the vast wastelands south of Kotal's kingdom, where they skirmish over territory with the amazons and other races of the south."

Kaito folds his arms. "Well, at least he's still in charge of his people. I need to catch up with him at some point."

"Kotal Kahn's influence also does not extend across the seas. Yanake and her people have formed a kingdom of their own, from the capital city of Xun-Koto."

Kaito smiles to himself; he remembers helping Yanake liberate the siege from the city of Xun-Koto with the help of Rokuro, Sareena, Tortek and---

"I'm not sure yet. I might just see where the wind takes me," Kaito replies.

"We will assist you in any way you need," Sindel reminds him.

Kaito excuses himself from the king and queen and approaches Liu Kang and Kitana. As edenians live amazingly long lives spanning millenia, it is no wonder that Kitana looks just as stunning as she once did, as do all of the other edenian women he knew. Liu Kang, however, as a fellow human, is in a similar boat as Kaito; due to his status as Mortal Kombat Champion, he has remained ageless, much like Kaito himself due to the Jinsei Chamber.

"Kaito," Kitana says as he approaches, "Liu and I were just speaking of something that may interest you."

"What is it?" Kaito asks.

"I was considering making a trip to Outworld to visit Master Bo' Rai Cho at his new school. It has been some time since I have seen him. Would you be interested?"

"I might be," Kaito replies. "Speaking of which, Kung Lao says he'd like you to visit more."

Liu gives a small smile. "Yes, this is true. I find myself distracted by the beauty of edenia and the peace it brings to my soul far too often."

'Or distracted by a certain beauty of edenia,' Kaito thinks to himself as he sees the two of them share a look.

Kaito says to Kitana, "So, I'm told you're the new ambassador. How's that job working out for you?"

"It suits me," Kitana says. "I have always sought paths around violent conflict. Even during my time in Outworld, I often helped settle disputes between the shokan and centaurian peoples."

"That's defnitely some job experience, what with how much those two hate each other," Kaito says. "Been to Orderrealm or Chaosrealm lately?"

"No," she says. "Diplomatic visits to Seido require much paperwork, sometimes years of it. Edenia would rather allow them to simply exist in peace. And Chaosrealm... Well, one does not make diplomatic journeys to Chaosrealm."

Kaito nods at her before turning back to Liu. "So, what's this about Bo' Rai Cho's new school? Why'd he open it?"

"He previously trained students privately, or occasionally in Earthrealm, but I believe the invasion inspired him to train other Outworlders to fight for good. He build his new monastary atop a mountain not far from Yanake's people."

"What does he look for in a student?"

"He is not as strict as the Shaolin temples," Liu explains. "But from what I understand, his school has a rather high washout rate. His training is very rigorous."

"I might be interested in that," Kaito says, thinking about receiving such training and what it could do for him. "What about the two of you? How's life treating you?"

"Very well," Kitana answers.

"No, no, I mean, how are YOU two doing?" Kaito asks with extra emphasis.

Liu lets out a small cough. "Very WELL," he says with similar emphasis.

"Alright, alright," Kaito says. "I just think you two go nicely together, is all. Got a kid on the way?"

"It's alright. No, not yet. But perhaps one day."

Kaito folds his arms. "Well, since we're on the subject of a 'next generation' as it were, I wanted to run something by you guys. Johnny Cage is thinking of putting a team together, a 'New Defenders' kind of deal. A safeguard in place of danger. Johnny's thinking of recruiting from all sorts of sources; his daughter, Sub-Zero's son, Special Forces, Shirai Ryu, you know, the new kids on the block. What do you think?"

Liu and Kitana look at each other. "I think such a thing is unnecessary," Liu replies, an answer which surprises him.

"Why?"

Liu nods at Kitana. "Well, merely having a new team may invite trouble by itself. The realms are at peace for now, and should something arise we have little doubt that we or others will rise to stand against it."

Liu adds on, "And forging a new weapon just for the sake of having it can often provoke one to wield it recklessly. I fear that such a team could be exploited."

"But we were on a team back in the invasion," Kaito says.

"Out of necessity," Liu points out. "That was a time of war. This is a time of peace. And this new generation you speak of was not around for it; they have little to no experience in the ways of Mortal Kombat and the realms."

"They could learn," Kaito points out.

"Perhaps. But perhaps not."

"I have no problem with Johnny, but he is... often short-sighted," Liu admits. "I know he means well but sometimes I wonder if he can see beyond the reflection of his eyes in his shades."

"That's a bit harsh, but I understand where you're coming from," Kaito says. "I dont think it's gonna matter to some of the new kids, though; most are head strong and want to prove themselves to their parents."

"Perhaps so," Liu says. He looks across the room and sees Smoke beckoning him over. "Pardon me," he says.

As he leaves Kitana's side, Kaito turns to the princess. "Say, Kitana, there's something I've been wanting to ask you."

"Of course."

"It's about that day, twenty years ago, when I convinced you to not kill Mileena. And when she turned against Shao Kahn and joined your family later on."

She shifts onto one leg and crosses her arms. "What of it?"

"Do you think I was right? Do you think Mileena can be your family?"

"I admit that I was... initially very spiteful of her, and her of me. But during our time togethere here in Edenia, we began to build a relationship... Ours is not a normal fable of sisters, but I am happy to say that she is mending her ways. Or so she was when she left the palace of her own free will, even after our mother lifted her sentence of exile upon her."

Kaito smiles. "Ah! You said 'our mother' when speaking about her. You do consider her a sister, don't you?"

"She has my blood," Kitana says offhandedly. "But she also has much to learn. I hope that whatever she is looking for, she finds it. I would not regret the day she comes to reunite with us."

"Well... Maybe I can speed that up. Can you tell me anything more about where she is?"

The merchant I spoke to told me that Mileena was battling these pirates, fighting to keep the trade routes safe from attack."

"I confess that I do not know," Kitana says. "But the merchant that spoke to me of her said that she was travelling to the fishing village of Jewel Cove; apparently, it is a hub of many merchant and trader vessels bringing in exotic goods from all corners of Edenia, a veritable melting pot of many of our realm's cultures and kingdoms."

"Maybe I should give it a look," Kaito says. "Do you think she'll be happy to see me?"

"I cannot predict how she will react," Kitana replies honestly, "but I know that she missed you in the years following the invasion. She sought comfort elsewhere but I don't believe she ever found it."

"You know, it occurs to me that you and I have never been properly introduced," Kaito says to her. "Last time we met, you were still calling yourself Mantis. And the entire time I thought I was hanging out with you turned out to be a saurian assassin trying to give me the kiss of death."

Jade fixes a bemused look at Kaito. "Yes, so I've heard. I remember my time as Mantis with perfect clarity, in case you were wondering."

"So you remember how I defeated you?"

"You defeated a woman with amnesia, how very commendable and noble," she quips back.

"Hey, that woman had a spear. I defended myself."

She smiles and leans back against a marble pillar. "Well, regardless of which edenian assassin would defeat you in a rematch, it is nice to finally meet you."

"There's no one else like her in the entire realms," Jade says. "Half edenian and half demon..."

Kaito blinks. That's right... Smoke is technically a demon in human form. Making her part human, part edenian, and part demon? Or half edenian-half demon?

She's certainly unique, that's for sure.

"In so much that the royal family does not control their lands, yes," Jade says. "Their leader is rather... aloof is a good word. Selfish is another. But not foolish enough to attempt to make war with us, and so he remains in his kingdom. Asgaarth and the other avians live here with us, though originally they come from further north. Across the seas to the east reside the catfolk and their kingdoms."

"So, the Monkey King isn't one for diplomacy, is he? What about the others?"

"We have good relations with the catfolk. They are mostly isolationist by nature, but since Edenia's return they have opened up for the possibility of trade and further peaceful cooperation."

"Are there any other animal-like races in Edenia? And by that I mean, you know, like just people but they also happen to look like animals."

"I do not believe so, no. Though from what I understand, more live in Outworld, but they are more beastly in nature. Edenian beastfolk, though I personally loath the term, are more regal, stately, man-like. Native Outworld beastfolk are more feral. Though, each race has its exceptions, of course. The monkeys and apes of the Monkey Kingdom tend to vary wildly, and Edenia has no shortage of the fantastic. It would not surprise me if there were even more than may yet return."

"Well, that's very interesting, thank you," Kaito says as Liu and Smoke finish their conversation. Liu approaches Kaito.

Kaito decides to leave the palace and take a stroll through the countryside. The more he explores, the more he is taken aback by the beauty of Edenia. As much as Kaito loves his home realm of Earth, he has to admit that much of it has gone downhill, but Edenia has none of that. Prestine forests, clean rivers and lakes, green grass and fields of flowers.

Even the buildings are all beautiful, either grand and majestic or simple and functional, but still artistic.

Not to mention that much of the landscape is simply fantastic in nature, with an exotic quality that only imagination once captured. As he walks, using Raiden's staff as a walking stick, he admires the purity of the realm.

It serves as a reminder of the evil that tyrants like Shao Kahn represent; to know that he once set his eyes upon this land, not with admiration, but with desires of conquest and enslavement...

Kaito finds his resolve to oppose such evil strengthened and renewed by this walk. He recalls the Entity, a being so alien to his sensibilities that it would have destroyed Edenia a thousand times over...

And yet, Kaito cannot help but wonder what comes next. What evil remains that will inevitably rear its ugly head? What tyrant will next rise and attempt to take this land from the innocent who have now returned to a life of peace? What bully would---

Suddenly Kaito comes upon a small group of children; four of them appear to be ganging up on a small little boy. As Kaito watches from a nearby hill, they push him down into the dirt and kick a book away that he was carrying.

Kaito holds up his staff and summons a lightning bolt. "HEY!" he shouts at them.

The bullies immediately run away in fear of being caught and punished. Kaito slowly walks down and kneels along the side of the dirt road as the little boy picks himself up and sniffles a bit. He wears simple brown clothing and his hair is dark like his own.

"You okay, kid?"

He nods and sits still. Kaito looks over at his book. He reaches over and picked it up, examining it; it is written in a script he does not know. Edenian, perhaps.

He holds it out for the kid to take. "Here. You dropped this?"

Slowly, the boy reaches out and takes it, holding it close.

"Why'd they pick on you?" he asks.

"They... they laugh at me because I like to read."

"Well that's just stupid of them. Why on eart---Why on Edenia would they do that?"

He rubs his eyes. "T-they say that I don't live up to my name."

"What's your name?"

"K-Kaito."

A strange chill runs down Kaito's spine as he looks at the little Kaito. He had been told that his name was popular amongst the new children being born, but now that he's actually encountered one, it hits him harder than ever.

Kaito sits and observes the smaller boy for a moment before asking him, "What is your book about?"

"It's... It's about legends and myths and monsters."

Kaito bites his tongue. "Let me ask you another question first; do you like your name?"

He seems a bit caught off-guard. "I... My mom says that I was named after a great hero. But I can't find anything about him in my book."

Kaito feels himself swelling with strange emotions; he feels incredibly honored that the boy was named after himself.

"Well... I could tell you a bit about him, if you like."

The boy stares for a moment before saying, "Yes, please?"

Kaito finds a nearby tree and sits underneath it in the shade. Little Kaito sits in front of him and listens as he begins his story.

"It all begins long ago, in a far-off and magical land known only as Japan..."

From Kaito's childhood to his father to wandering the world and fighting, to being called to the Mortal Kombat tournament, to fighting for Earthrealm and being banished to Outworld, liberating the people of a great city and travelling to Shao Kahn's fortress with his newfound friends. Battling in the second tournament, overthrowing the tyrant!

It doesn't take long for the other four children, the ones he scared off earlier, to return, curious. They slowly sneak up to listen to the story, and by its end, sit alongside Little Kaito as he talks about his final battle against Shao Kahn, where he was overtaken by the Crimson Thunder and forced to battle Raiden, before falling into a deep, deep sleep...

"But what happened next?" he asks and all the children stare up at him with wide eyes.

"Well... I'm still finding out," Kaito says to them. "But when the next part is done, I'll be sure to let you know."

He leans in close. "Oh, by the way... I'm Kaito."

The children all explode with excitement and run about him, asking questions and wanting to know more. Kaito looks down at his younger new friend and thinks about what he can do for the young man.

Kaito kneels down and takes off his headband. He hands it to Little Kaito.

He smiles as he holds it. "And if these other kids ever give you trouble," Kaito lets his words hang in the air as he charges up his staff with lightning. The four of them grow quiet and sheepish. "We didn't mean to," one of them says.

He shakes his head as the little boy holds his book and headband close to him. He smiles as he waves at Little Kaito. "See you later, Kaito."

He then flies up into the sky as the kids cheer.

Having spent the afternoon on that, Kaito decides to investigate something else, now that he's in an especially good mood.

He soars towards the mountain where he met the woman of Earth, one of the five fractured remants of an Edenian god. He freed her as Otiak, but if what he was told is true, then all he did as Otiak was reversed...

And yet, someone asked for a password earlier and he gave the wrong one. The only other password he ever gave was to her, and yet, she should not know it, shouldn't she?

He flies to the mountain and lands alongside it. There, he finds three boulders; two of them are unbroken, while the third is smashed.

He scratches his head. This makes little sense...

Just then, a voice reaches his ears. 'What is the password?'

At that moment, the ground rises alongside him. The dirt takes the form of a human woman before falling away, revealing the woman he once freed as Otiak.

Kaito holds up a finger. "Well, I'm in the unique position of knowing why you know the password, because I told it to you originally after I freed you, but I wasn't myself at the time. So if you could explain things a bit from your end, kindly...?"

"Twenty years ago, I was freed. I knew not how or by whom, but I knew that one day, a figure would appear and touch his own statue. I slept in the earth peacefully until I was awoken by you. But... you failed to give me the correct password. So I slept some more. Then, you came here, to the place where I had been imprisoned. Curious, I asked once more. This time you were right."

"Yeah... about that. I was a bit surprised when you first asked, so I wasn't prepared... But do you know anything else? Who told you to do these things or how you learned them?"

"I have vague feelings... but I know that what I was commanded to do, I did. My joy at freedom is worth more to me than understanding the mysterious circumstances of my release... So, I would rather do as I have been bidden to do and bestow upon you a gift."

Well, we never really had very long to use the hydrokinesis. Now that we've got time, we can practice it more, especially now that we've gotten training from Kung Lao.

Alright, so there seems to be two primary camps:

Earthshaping/Stone Manipulation: Changing the environment around us by creating new shapes out of rock, stone and dirt

Tremorsense: Sensing vibrations through the earth and knowing distance, size and speed of the things around us

Seeing as how we got two last time (water manipulation and healing water) I will allow both on similar conditions; Kaito must focus his senses in order to pick up on the vibrations of the ground.

There are limitations to this; like his water manipulation, Kaito's geokinesis is unrefined and rough; he cannot create very large structures nor complex shapes yet, nor can he levitate stones or stop earth that is in the air from flying at him or elsewhere.

His earth manipulation and tremorsense must be connected to solid ground or stone, and the more manufactured it gets (smoothed marble floors, tiles, concrete) the harder it gets.

These are limitations that can be overcome in time.

Kaito explains himself. "I'd like be a cross between a graboid and that Earth-ring guy from the Planeteers, you know what I'm talking about?"

"Not in the slightest."

Kaito then explains the finer points of his desires; tremorsense and manipulation of earth.

She nods. "Very well, I shall grant you this gift. use it well. Open your mouth."

"My what? HEY, WAI--"

Kaito, at this moment, remembered all too late that the last time this happened, the woman of water jumped down his throat. Sure enough, the woman of earth becomes like dirt and surges towards him, launching into his mouth.

Kaito falls back as he gets covered with dirt as she vanishes. He rolls onto his stomach and coughs, feeling the dry dirt in his mouth and throat. He hacks up dirt and spits it onto the ground.

"Okay, serious--" he pauses to hack and wheeze a bit. "--seriously! What is WITH you chicks? Can't it be done another way?"

He coughs some more as he sits up. "Goddamn, I swear, when I meet Fire, I ain't doing this shit, no way. Air, maybe, we'll talk about it. But--" he coughs some more, "--damnit!"

After a moment, he stands back up and gets his breathing back to normal. He feels a little sick and woozy, but can stand on his feet and relax a bit.

When he feels comfortable, he sits back down, closes his eyes, and focuses.

He reaches out with his senses and feels the earth around him. The soft pitter-patter of a nearby animal, a pair of birds landing on the stones nearby, worms crawling in the dirt beneath him.

He opens his eyes and rises. He stamps a foot onto the ground, causing a crude column of stone to emerge with a violent thrust upwards.

He does it again and again, creating a series of higher and higher platforms for himself to leap onto.

As he jumps onto the highest platform, he closes his eyes and feels the wind rushing past as he clenches his fists, feeling his new powers surging within him.

Good morning, everyone.

With his newfound powers added to his array of abilities, Kaito flies back to the royal palace. The sun is setting and the night sky is rising along with the moon. By the time he reaches the back of the palace, the sun is almost entirely set, with only a few rays peeking over the horizon.

As he dips below into the waterfall-fed canyon behind the palace, he spies his ship, the Dragon Wing. He lands on the dock leading up to it.

The two Edenian Knight guards who once rebuked him at the gate now stand guard over it. They stand at attention as he walks up to them.

"The ship is prepared for you, sir," one of them immediately speaks up.

Previously, they had been made to carry all of the gifts Kaito had received from the edenian people.

"You put animals on my boat? I can't have livestock and a bunch of cats running around on my ship!"

"They're all in cages or harnesses, and they were gifts," the other guard clarifies. "You can always give them back. We've been instructed to return anything you don't like."

They look at each other. "Uh... sir?" Biggs says to Kaito. "We cannot simply abandon our posts..."

"Well, maybe I could arrange it. What do you say?"

"I like boats," Wedge says.

"Shut up!" Biggs tells him. "We're very important guards! We can't just up and leave the service of the royal family, we took an oath as Edenian Knights! Guardians of the realm!"

"Yeah, but we haven't been promoted in ten years," Wedge says.

"We must do our duty no matter how long it takes!" Biggs says back.

Biggs protests. "No! You can't go anywhere without me, you'd die with how clumsy you are! You need me to watch over you."

"So you'll come along?" Wedge asks.

"No! I'm staying here, and so are you! It's our post!"

"But what if our post changes to the boat like he says he might be able to get?"

Biggs pauses. He looks at Kaito and suddenly smiles a nervous smile. "Heeeey, you don't really need two guys like us, right? I mean, you'll be fine, right?"

"He's afraid of the water," Wedge says.

Biggs turns to him, his face turning red. "You told me you wouldn't tell anyone! Why do I even share these things with you?!"

"Well, the offer stands until I set sail," Kaito says. "You two are relieved of duty, you can head back up to the palace."

They sigh in relief and make their way to the stairs leading up the cliffside.

Kaito turns to step onto his ship and inspect the cargo. True to their word, there are lots of gifts, usually home-made ones. There are also crates and barrels full of all kinds of supplies; maybe enough to last him a year or more!

Down below, he finds the animals in pens that were once used to house prisoners. They weren't lying about edenian animals; they seem massive! The horses look like war horses, with immaculate manes and lush coats, tall and strong. The cows are similarly muscular, with lots of meat on them and great horns. The sheep have amazingly soft cotton and come in a few different colors of white, gray and black.

Finally, there are seven cats in small cages. They are sleek and their eyes are bright and inquisitive as they peer at him. Their coats range between different colors of exotic shades.

And then there is a single cage with a puppy in it. The small, orange-red furred hound looks up at him with beady eyes set beneath a thick brow. Kaito doesn't have much experience with dog breeds, but judging from the size of the puppy and the slightly-droopy face, it seems like a baby mastiff. If it's an edenian breed, he thinks that it could grow to massive proportions.

It whimpers a bit and paws at the metal bars of its cage.

Back from lunch.

Kaito plays with the puppy for a bit alternating between cuddling with him and scratching him all over. The thick fur covering his body is warm and soft and Kaito spends some time musing on a name for the dog.

He comes up with a few ideas, but he decides that he will finalize his choice later after some more thinking. He lets the dog have free roam of the ship while he takes stock of the remainder of his ship's supplies.

He has barrels of rice, dry meat, wine, water and assorted fruits and vetetables, as well as salt and sugar. Numerous crates are filled with other useful necessities and helpful commodities. With the furniture he was given, he can fully furnish the rest of the rooms on the boat, including his primary cabin. He was also gifted various woven works, such as rugs, curtains, tapestries and more.

By the time he is done, the moon is high in the sky and he feels rather tired.

Kaito steps into his new cabin and looks around it. The bed is large and the room also has a desk and some chests for storage. He hops onto the bed, with new fine edenian sheets.

There is a whimpering at its side and he leans over to look at the puppy, who cannot jump up. Kaito leans down and picks him up, placing him on the bed with him. The puppy snuggles close and lays down as Kaito rests, content to simply enjoy sleeping in his new cabin.

The next morning, he awakens bright and early. As he sits up and stretches, the puppy bounces happily around him, pawing at him. He picks it up and heads down into the deck to get some meat for a treat for the hound.

Kaito makes the necessary preparations for sailing before taking the dog on a short walk to do its business. He leaves the puppy on the ship with instructions to guard it. He doubts the dog knows how to follow orders yet, but the puppy sits on the deck and waits as Kaito flies up to the palace.

At the top, he grabs a very brief bite to eat from the dining hall.
