Become The Vampire 28

Your schoolday was, in a word, uneventful.

Which is to say that half of your classes were basically just sitting around doing nothing. You had a substitute teacher for math class since the previous teacher “is taking an extended leave of absence”, but that was the most exciting thing to happen all day. Your history class got a dose of excitement with talk of the tournament, but your teacher was quick to inform everyone that there would be parental consent forms and waivers galore. Still, it means everything can be full contact. Catherine seemed to get a little kick out of that idea, since your church is all about healing the wounded.

With Sammy recovering from her hangover and Andrea out of the picture as well you're pretty sure that track will be canceled. Well, fairly sure at least. You're not certain about it, but you've also got an appointment to keep with Angie, and your main reasons for going to track are nursing wicked headaches. Presence has been pretty calm all day long. You're pretty sure this is a bad sign, but you've got no proof of that just yet.

As you leave shop class and try to figure out what you want to do next, a small envelope flutters down from the ceiling and lands at your feet. Written on it are the words “To Oliver Spencer, Esq.”, but there's no sign of whoever left it there for you, and no marks on the ceiling to indicate it had been stuck there. The halls seem to empty themselves suddenly, as though on some unheard cue everyone around you parted ways and walked away from you. The air is still and quiet, and the envelope beckons.

>Rules
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

Hello anthrax
>>
You pick the envelope up slowly and open it. The moment you slide your finger under the edge it feels a little heavier, and when you open it up and take out the paper inside the envelope falls from your hand like a lead weight, vanishing into nothingness and leaving you holding the note.

“Turn around.”

You pause for a few moments. There's a presence behind you. You turn, slowly and carefully, and come face to face with an aging man in a suit and glasses, his white mustache neatly trimmed and his snowy hair swept back. He bows low and smiles at you as you try not to jump out of your skin. There's a sort of aura around him similar to Angie's, one that fills you with the dread of death, but somehow formal, death with dignity.

“My name is Right Hand, and I've come to deliver an invitation to you from my master. Dinner for two at his abode, this upcoming Christmas Eve, to commemorate the great birth, and a great rebirth. He's been watching this town for quite some time, and everyone of note is invited to attend. He has measured your worth and seen fit to invite you as well. It is a great honor.”

He pulls a small black envelope from his pocket, alone with a long, thin wooden case.

“Here is your invitation, as well as your incentive. My master hopes that you enjoy your gift, and that you will return the favor this Christmas with a gift of your own.”

What if it's Angie's boss, and it takes him that long to put on a form mortals can stand? I don't see drac beibg associated with dignified death.
>>
You take the envelope and box from him, and Right Hand straightens up, smiling politely.

“So... Who exactly is your master? And where is this abode of his?”

Right Hand chuckles politely, covering his mouth.

“Why, the esteemed king of all vampires, of course. And his abode is his castle, a realm beyond the reach of mortal men until he sees fit to open its gates. The true kingdom of my master is without borders, for he is lord over all that is within his sight, but his castle is where the dinner will be hosted. It begins at 7 PM sharp, and you will be expected to dress appropriately.”

You nod slowly and examine the box briefly.

“And if I refuse his invitation?”

Right Hand blinks.

“If? My master wholeheartedly accepts the notion that you may not attend. It is his belief that you will do whatever you please, and that you are beyond his control at present, but he wished to extend the invitation in the hopes that you would take him up on it. The incentive, such as it is, is simply a token from him to help convey the nature of his meeting with you, in a manner that only you would understand. Even I do not fully comprehend the nature of his gift.”

He bows and begins to fade away into black mist, leaving you standing there with the box and envelope. It's only been one week at this school and already you're being harassed by Dracula with Christmas party invitations. Maybe that whole wildcard thing was true after all. Either that or killing Vanessa painted a bigger target on your back than you thought.

Dracula is a dickhole, our mother might not even be dead, we don't really need to rush and Dracula's method of becoming a vampire would require killing the named NPCs we like so far.

You pocket the envelope for the time being and open the box. Inside is a bottle made from green glass with a note attached to it, which simply says “Invidia”, and a single lock of hair, the same color as your own. When you look closer it seems that the vial contains some kind of dark liquid, and the stopper is sealed with wax around the edges to help keep it closed. There's a note beneath the vial, and you pull it out to read it.

“To Oliver,

For when you must go unnoticed, embrace your deepest sin and drink of your mother's gift, the blood that runs through your veins.

Regards,
A friend”

You look at the vial for a few moments.

You put the vial back in the box and close it up, taking a few moments to brace yourself before turning and walking off towards the nurse's office, trying to keep a level head. It's pretty much impossible though. Theories run through your head all the way to Angie's office. Is your mother dead? Is this a sign from Dracula that she annoyed him and he had her taken out for good? He abandoned the vampires after his daughters turned into a disappointment, was she a disappointment as well? Or does she know him? Did she in the past? How long has Dracula been active in the area for?

The questions don't stop coming, and when you reach Angie's door you're finding it hard to think straight. Angie sniffs at the air as you walk in, raising her head and giving you a tired smile. She stands slowly and shuffles towards you, arms raised as she groans. She's pretty good at the whole zombie walk thing, come to think of it.

“Coffee... I smell it... Give it to me... I know you have some...”

You reach into your bag and pull out the chocolate-covered coffee beans, dangling them in front of her. She looks at the bag for a moment, her eyes seeming to glow briefly before she lunges forwards. In an instant she tears the bag from your hand using her teeth, retreating back behind her desk and hiding under it. There's the sound of tearing and crunching, and soft moans of delight, before she rises to her feet, empty bag in hand, and looking wide awake. She smirks at you.

“Alright, you're out of the dog house.”

She pulls a piece of paper out of her pocket.

“Here's a copy of your contract, by the by, signed in triplicate along with instructions for the ritual you'll need to perform, along with the date and time.”

She sets it on the desk and you put your bag beside it.

“Before we get to that... Two things. One, my bag is haunted by a friend of yours, and two, I have a dinner invitation.”

Presense slowly pokes her head out of your bag, before puffing her cheeks out a bit and spraying ectoplasm out of her mouth all over Angie. Angie just stands there like nothing is happening, nodding slowly.

“I can see that. Unfortunately I'm a reaper, not ghost buster. She's got unfinished business, which means she gets to stick around. My personal advice? Start with her murderer and work from there. That's usually the solution.”

You nod and take out the envelope.

“Alright. And as for the invitation...”

You open the envelope and the room goes dark around you. The only things you can see are Presence, Angie and the letter inside, the envelope itself vanishing. The paper is white with red ink, and written in careful, precise script.

'Admit one Oliver Spencer, and guest, for an evening of festivities, fine dining and a special event.'

The room returns to normal, black paper forming around the note and wrapping it back up in an envelope. Angie looks at it and frowns.

“Well then. I get to miss the faculty Christmas party. Again.”

You hesitate for a moment.

“...so, who killed Presence? I remember her talking about a vampire girl, but aside from that...”

Angie shrugs a little.

“Not my department, sorry. She died on schedule, that's why I didn't bring her back. I don't track the causes of scheduled deaths if they happen on time. I can try to get her file though.”

You nod and look at Presence, who is pouting at you, arms folded.

“Couldn't even remember her name... Ha, some friend...”

She pauses and looks down.

“...what WAS her name...?”

You sigh and roll your eyes.

“So is the dinner thing a big problem then? I mean, it sounds like the party is a fun time for you, and that this dinner party is going to cause issues. Should I just not go?”

Angie sits down and folds her arms, leaning back.

“I have to miss the party because I'll be cleaning up the messes. If this is related to that spell that halted my scythe then it's a big deal. Christmas Eve is usually when a lot of monsters get up to funny business like this, because they think it's ironic. The birth of the savior, the birth of a dark lord, that kind of thing. They think they're really clever. I think it'll be pretty harmless, if they wanted to kill you they'd have poisoned the ink or something. You'll probably just be there to witness something.”

You pocket the envelope and grab the contract. It hums and throbs with energy, and as you hold it the paper seems to grow warm.

“And this contract... What exactly is the ritual I need to perfo-”

There's a bright red flash and you can see strange shapes and symbols as they burn themselves into your mind. You know that if you attempt to use the ritual, you'll immediately know how it's done. It'll only work once, but you can summon the devil you need to bind for the contract in three days, at the stroke of midnight. Angie chuckles.

“It's that."

You don't deal with formal language much, do you? A formal invitation will always include some subtext about how declining isn't an insult, it's proper form. However, barring serious illness, declining will invariably ve viewed as an insult unless we have a prior engagement(which he would likely know about, as apparently he's been monitoring us)
>>
>>44702814
Since your argument is "No, I'm right, he'll absolutely take it as an insult, there's no other possibility," I still intend to decline.
>>
You nod a little and slip your contract into a side pocket of your bag, away from Presence.

“Is there anything else you needed me for? Mostly I wanted to just check in on you.”

Angie shakes her head, then pauses, and nods slightly.

“I killed your math teacher. Well, technically I simply kept her on her clock and she tried to delay her death with a spell so I reaped her manually. But the important thing is that she's dead. This means her arcane sanctuary is free for the taking, and that her position as a teacher is open. I've already made moves to have a hand in picking her replacement, so you better get a certain someone ready for their new job.”

You nod and sling your bag over your shoulder.

“I'll be sure to let her know.”

Angie smiles and winks at you.

“Just be sure not to spend too much time in her detention class, naughty boy.”

Presence laughs, and your bag thrashes briefly.

“He doesn't have the balls for it! He's had every opportunity to fuck her sideways and he just won't!”

Angie raises an eyebrow and gives you a wry smile.

“It's not healthy to remain so pent up. As your nurse, I advise you to relieve yourself somehow before you explode or do something stupid.”

>I'll... get right on that...? Um... thanks for... looking out for me?

You feel kind of weirded out about that, but you shrug and head for the door.

“Well, I'll be seeing you later.”

Angie leans back a bit further in her chair, right on the verge of tipping over.

“Alright then. Get set to get schooled at poker though.”

You take out your phone and scroll through your apps, before just bringing it close and speaking into it.

“Miniora, where's Meliora?”

There's a beep and then Minora's avatar appears on the screen. She pulls your map application onto the screen and opens it up, before pointing to a location on it. After scrolling around a bit, you manage to make sense of things. She's currently at one of the shed surrounding the outdoor activity field, and it's labeled as “Robot Club Workshop” on your map. When you click on it Miniora opens up a little list of facts about it. It's run by Fenright, has eight students involved in it, and Meliora only ever goes there for repairs, upgrades and to be alone. She never goes there when there are other students, or her father.

You slip your phone back into your pocket and head for the club room. The halls continue to seem empty, but then again it's after school on a Monday. Everyone is either at their club meetings or relaxing or something. You make it to the workshop unmolested, and stop short outside the door. There's a keypad for entering, and from the seam and hinges, that's just to access whatever security features are behind it. Still, never let it be said that you didn't try.

You examine the keypad for a few moments and poke at it a little, giving it a wiggle. It comes loose, falling off the hinges and hitting the ground with a soft thud. Behind it is a doorbell, as well as a slot for a key to unlock the door. You don't have a set of picks or a hairpin on you, and you don't have much experience with jimmying a lock, but you do have a ghost and a tiny robot phone. You might be able to break in regardless.

You open up your bag slightly.

“Presence, how are you at making keys and unlocking doors?”

Presense sticks a finger up her nose, wiggling it around.

“Decent enough. Why?”

You gesture to the door, and Presence slowly pulls her finger out of her nose, extracting a key-shaped chunk of ectoplasm, which she presses into your hand. It's as sickeningly slimy as the last time you had a run-in with her goo, and you shudder as you bring it towards the lock. You slowly try to insert the key, and it turns to mush the moment you apply pressure to it, the slime covering your whole hand, oozing all the way up to your wrist. Presence bursts out laughing, right as the door opens.

“...am I interrupting something?”

Meliora frowns at you, one arm folded across her chest and the other... missing.

“I saw you on the security camera trying to break in. You could have just rung the doorbell you know.”

Oh yeah. That was a thing. Meliora heads back inside, but the door is open. You poke your head in and spot Meliora with one of the schools security robots. She's in the process of tinkering with its insides one-handed, her other arm resting in a small glass box beside her, tiny robot arms repairing a series of long cuts running along its length.

“Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me with this?”

>What can I do to help? I'll do what I can.
>Damn it Meliora, I'm a hunter, not a technician.

“What can I do to help? I'll lend a hand where I can.”

Meliora points to a toolbox in the corner.

“Grab that for me, hold it where I can reach it, and pass me what I need. I'll try to explain some of this stuff to you as I go along so you can help me with what I'm trying to do.”

You grab the toolbox and stand at the ready, passing Meliora various tools as she dismantles components of the other android. She explains that tech golems like herself combine the basic physical structures of machines like androids with the magical properties of golems, which when combined with some AI programming creates a very realistic facsimile of life, capable of obeying orders and making decisions.

As Meliora extracts a glowing orb from the android's chest and sets it down, she tells you about how golems are powered. Their core draws in magical energy and uses that for fueling the various spells that make them work. Meliora and her sisters, such as they are, use their cores mainly to generate electricity and fuel for their various components, and that the cores also house the closest thing they have to a soul. As she says this she pulls out a large metal hammer and begins to gently tap the orb, which cracks slightly and splits open, revealing a glowing red ball of fire, floating an inch above the table.

“I'm trying to give them the same spark of awareness that I have, to make them alive.”

Meliora pauses for a moment, looking at her hand and then at you.

“...You know, like how I'm alive. Not the way that you're alive. Nevermind, forget it.”

She turns away, walking over to a nearby computer terminal.

“I just need you to keep an eye on it and keep it from exploding or something. Golem cores are really tricky to make and we don't have the materials to make any more.”

You place your hands either side of the flame and smile to yourself, using your magic to toy with the golem's core a little bit. It's just like the fire magic you've been doing before, and you expand and contract the core carefully and slowly, being as delicate as you can with it. It's a complex spell, that much you can tell, but the input and output seems fairly straightforward. More energy in means more energy to work with, and less energy in means...

Huh. That was odd. You pull your hands away when you see it spark, the bolt arcing towards your hand. It didn't sting or anything. In fact, it felt more like a touch, like it was reaching out towards you. You return your hands to it, and the core sparks again, this time letting out a continuous trickle of your magical energy and pouring it back into you. You return the favor, and the energy cycles back and forth between you and the core. Maybe it's a safety feature to prevent overloads, and it's venting into you, or maybe it thinks your life is in danger and it's trying to save you.

You look over at Meliora, who's still busily typing away, and contemplate trying to manipulate the fundamental nature of the core. Maybe a rune spell or something might work. You don't really know how to use rune magic properly yet, but this could be an ideal situation to try it out in.

You gently bite the tip of your finger, just enough to draw blood, and scribble the symbol for magic on the table in blood. It glows softly, reacting immediately to your magical energy as it radiates from the core, and you smile a bit, trying to figure out how to merge it with the core or form a spell out of it. A single symbol on its own simply describes an aspect, but not how to influence it. You try to imagine empowering the core, letting it take in, store and use more energy, and use it more efficiently.

You feel a gentle pull from the rune as you focus on the concept, and the bloody mark begins to spread and become more detailed. As you imagine energy flowing into the core, smaller symbols form around the rune for magic, and as you mentally explore each aspect of the spell you're trying to create you relax and let your magic flow, reshaping the blood on the table to match what you're trying to make in your head. When it looks about right you close your eyes, relax completely, and let the spell out.

You find yourself on the ground about ten feet from the core. Meliora is glaring at you, looking like she's barely containing her rage, and the core is about five feet across and slowly increasing in size.

“What. Did. You. Do?”

You slowly get to your feet. Your legs hurt a lot, and so does your back, but nothing permanent. Well, not that you can tell at least. Meliora storms over to you, hand moving to your collar as she hoists you into the air.

“What did you do!?”

Meliora's eyes go wide, glowing brightly, and she drops you.

“You...”

She runs over to the core.

“I swear, if you just murdered my sister, I'm going to...!”

She's shaking, and there's a catch in her voice. As the core swells and the color of the flames change from red to blue Meliora begins to quietly sob, looking on helplessly and falling to her knees.

“She's going to rupture... She's... Her core is going to burst...”

You look at the core for a moment, then at your hands. You did this. Meliora's sister is about to explode into pieces, her very soul detonating, all because you couldn't keep your magic to yourself. Well, time to fix this. You run up to the core and dump some blood onto the table, enough for another spell, trying to come up with a solution. You can't seem to make the first spell just stop, so you try changing or modifying it, but you can tell that's going to take too long to get right. But maybe if you just made a new spell that would counter the first, or at least prevent a catastrophic overload?

You try to get the runes into the right shape, but every time you use magic to form the right symbols the core just soaks it right up, and you resort to working by hand, using magic on the fine details. You're already getting tired, and you're going to be burnt out for sure if you try this. You've got it as close as you think it's going to get though. No wonder Jennifer said rune mages tend to blow themselves up on the first try. You've almost literally done exactly that.

You cast the spell with the last of your reserves, barely managing to avoid burning out completely, and the core begins to shrink. You smile to yourself, until the blue color becomes more intense, the flames roaring faster and faster. There's a sudden brilliant flash and the blue flame turns into a sphere of glowing blue liquid. It looks a little like plasma, and Meliora rises to her feet.

“What in the world...?”

She reaches out to touch it and her hand melts off instantly, leaving a sparking stump from the elbow down.

“...You've... supercharged her core somehow.”

She runs over to the computer.

“It's stabilizing... The other spells she has are adjusting the energy flow for her new form...”

She turns to you.

“If I'm a supercomputer, she's a quantum computer.”

You can't tell if she's happy or upset, mostly because her face is a little melted.

You nod slightly and walk over to Meliora.

“So, that's a good thing, right? I mean, quantum computers are great, right?”

Meliora nods slightly.

“Correct, but her core is too unstable and outputting too much power for a conventional body. She'll need a special form of containment. And it interrupted the program that I was uploading to her physical body when she overloaded. I don't know where the code uploaded to. It might have imprinted directly onto her core.”

There's a brief flicker of light, and when you look over your shoulder you can see the orb of plasma slowly start to shift and stretch, the glow dimming slightly.

“Do you think she heard you? She seems to be cooling down a bit...”

Meliora shakes her head.

“That would be impossible. She doesn't have ears right now. She can only respond to changes in the magical energy around her. I'll need to get a new body constructed for her.”

Meliora turns back to the computer and looks down at her arm before sighing and walking over to the case, inspecting her arm as it's being repaired. You can feel a light touch on your shoulder, and when you turn around energy arcs from the orb, wrapping around you and pulling you closer. The orb begins to float towards you.

You open your arms slightly, and it pulls you in faster, hovering closer to meet you.

“Hey, Mel? I think it knows me. Little help here?”

It presses itself to your chest, and for a brief moment you almost want to scream from the heat. You look down and see that your shirt has turned black where it's touching you, but there's no heat being transferred to you beyond a soft warmth. Meliora looks over and just stares for a few moments.

“It melted my hand, how are you not dead...? And why is it... Nevermind. Just stay right there, alright? I'm waiting on a fresh hand, and...”

She blinks, or at least, you think she tried to.

“...I need to fix something.”

She runs off into the corner, into a metal booth that looks like a changing station, and you can hear a few latches unlocking before Meliora walks out of the booth next to it good as new, removing a plug from the back of her head. Her clothes are different though, so it's probably a spare.

“Now then... Let's do a little checkup and see what's going on. I'm gonna put her in an analysis machine to try to work out exactly what's going on.”

She reaches for the core and it zaps her, knocking her back a few feet before shifting, turning you so your back is to Meliora and pressing itself to your chest once more. Meliora huffs.

“Fine then! You do it! My own sister, turning against me...”

You look down at the core for a moment.

“Alright, little one, you need a checkup. And you also need to listen to your mother, she's just trying to look out for you.”

Meliora stares at you, face bright red, and you slowly walk with the orb over to the device that looks like the analyzer. The core floats into it and the door closes, and Meliora runs her hands through her hair as she heads for the computer.

“We will have words later, when I'm capable of processing what you just said without shooting you in the leg.”

You shrug slightly and smile. Totally worth it. Meliora taps away at the keyboard, nodding to herself.

“She's fully stable, but I have no idea how she's sentient in this state without any sort of processor or AI matrix. From what I'm seeing she has a crude imprint of your soul from your interactions with her so far, combined with the AI that I was trying to upload to her system and the spells that make up her core. She's a mind and soul without a body, and it seems like she's trying to make one for herself with pure magical energy with little success.”

You nod a bit, then look at your bag. You've got your phone with you, as well as Presence. You might be able to use Presence's ectoplasm to make a crude body, or just upload her to your phone and merge her with Miniora until you can make a proper body. Alternatively you could try something else, like your magically charged blood or her old body.

You walk over to the analyzer and smile gently, opening the hatch and presenting your finger.

“Alright, little one. You need something to make your body with, right? Use some of my blood as a basis for it, you're already using my magic anyway.”

You watch a thin ribbon of your blood drain from your finger, flowing towards the orb, and it immediately turns red. It flies out of the analyzer, zipping around the room before coming to a halt in front of you. It turns a deep red color, and Meliora turns to you.

“You're just doing whatever comes to mind at this point, aren't you...”

You nod and smile.

“It's working though.”

Meliora sighs.

“Only because the core itself is designed to be adapted into various forms or used in different types of bodies. You've really meddled a lot with this... She's not even really my sister anymore, she's... something new entirely.”

Little by little the orb swells, forming arms and legs and a head with the core at its chest. As the body becomes more detailed you notice that it's forming strands of muscle, and there are brief glimpses of bone. It's making an actual, flesh and blood body. It's shorter than you are by about a foot, and as the body materializes completely it begins to reshape itself slightly as though altering its DNA. If you were a girl, and younger, then you'd probably look the way the golem does now.

“Da...”

She looks at you for a moment, struggling with her words and looking frustrated, her legs wobbling. Her head glows briefly and she runs at you, hugging you tightly.

“Daddy!”

Meliora facepalms as the golem nuzzles your chest.

“I refuse to be a part of this. This is entirely your fault and your responsibility.”

You smile a bit and hug the girl back, patting her on the head.

“Meliora, how can you say that? She's our daughter, we have to take care of her together.”

Meliora glares at you over her hand before walking over to a nearby shelf and pulling down an odd-looking pistol.

“I'm kidding, Mel. You don't have to help out. More hugs for me. But seriously, she's still your sister, just... different.”

Meliora nods and loads the pistol.

“I'm listening. Don't worry.”

The girl looks up at you, and you smile.

“What's wrong, Athena?”

The girl blinks, pointing to herself, and you nod. She smiles.

“I am... Athena... I like it.”

She squeezes you before running over to one of the closets and pulling out one of the one-piece work suits, slipping it on. It doesn't fit her at all, but she doesn't seem to mind, grinning at you.

“I am Athena!”

She tries to run over to you and almost trips on the overly long legs, stumbling a bit and crashing into you. Meliora cocks the pistol.

“So now that you've gone and made a homunculus out of my sister, with a mind that far surpasses my own, and an actual flesh and blood body that's capable of regenerating itself, what do you suppose it going to happen to me? I was made to be my father's daughter, and now... now you've made something that's going to replace me. I wanted to make her like me so we could be closer, not... create a semblance of life that's more real than I'll ever be...”

>Mel, you're alive in your own way. Everyone is different.
>I didn't mean to make you feel like that, Mel. I'm sorry.

You look at Meliora for a moment and take a half step between her and Athena.

“You're real, Meliora. You're you. You're alive, just like everyone else. Sure, you're different than most people, but so is she. That doesn't make you better or worse. You're unique.”

Meliora's hands tremble as she grips the pistol.

“Shut up. From the first day we met you've known how I see people... I want to be a human being, to fit in, to be normal... I thought I was making progress, but it's only ever gotten more confusing. I feel so lost all the time, I don't know what to do... And now you've made her, and she's going to figure it all out in minutes, she's going to be everything I wish I was... You can't know how that feels...”

You walk towards Meliora slowly.

“I know exactly how that feels. I moved from place to place growing up, and until I came here I never had a hope of staying in one place for long. I've never fit in before now, never made friendships I ever thought would last. Until I came here, I was just like you. Confused, lost, alone and afraid.”

You rest your hand on the pistol and gently ease it out of her shaking hands.

“You're one of the people who's helped me to not be afraid anymore, one of the people who, every day, helps me feel more normal.”

Meliora looks up at you, and you brush away her tears.

“I want to help you feel the way you make me feel, so you don't have to be afraid anymore, alright? Will you let me be there for you the way you are for me, so we can both learn to be human beings?”

Meliora nods and hugs you tightly, and Athena hugs you from behind. You close your eyes and sigh, smiling softly. Another person to worry about, but for a few precious moments, everything is alright.

It will be fun to explaing this to Sammy and Jennifer.

Also we just created a homunculos....a real one. Holy god and this girl can develop our magic and our hunter skills.
>>
>>44706000
i say first check in with angie, see exactly what we made, does she have a timer etc. Basically see how "human" she is. Then maybe set her up with some documents. Social based on how old she looks plus or minus 3 years, falsified school and medical records maybe based on ours. We've made some ok contacts maybe we can see if any of them help. It might also be wise to look into off campus housing.
>>
>>44706015
Awesome, she's litterally a godless abomination. Not even the QM knows what to do with her.
We can't just dump her on Jennifer. We're already rebuffing her advances, it'd be fucked up to ask her to help care for our kid.
Sammy... Oh god damnit, I have no idea how Sammy will react.
Maybe Andrea will help? Everyone's got a gay aunt/uncle. ESPECIALLY the people who think they don't.
She's probably safest with Mel and maybe MAYBE Mel's dad.
Angie could help too.
I can picture her reactions now.
>So you just skipped the sex I suggested and jumped right to having a kid? Oliver... what the fuck?
Maybe Sammy's sister and brother can help, they seem like good kids. Athena ain't no werewolf, though...

>>
>>44706228
>Mate we have a protection around us that could stop the scythe of a death angel.
There's another worry. We were assuming our mom did that, but Dracula's been watching us, and he might have cast that protection instead. If that's the case, we probably need to accept his invite.

When we talk to Angie we need to ask about that, she was supposed to tell us today, but the invite was a distraction.
>>
>>44706080
>I have no idea how Sammy will react.
I forsee more jealousy and unreasonable anger.
You're right we can't expect anyone to help, though I would point out we didn't tell her no, we told her we weren't making a choice until all the complications were cleared up.

Odds are, this will push one of them away from us. Possibly both, but oh well.
>>
>>44706257
Question for you. Since Athena has basically a photo copy of our soul, will she be able to join us in our lucid dreaming, so she can learn rune magic too? And does she have the blood magic channel in her soul like we do?
>>
>>44706467
Continuing that, do we need to worry about protecting her from demons until she's mature enough to make informed decisions(which will be in a couple centuries if we do become a vamp)

I absolutely see Oliver as a super overprotective father. Probably almost smotheringly so, after his own experiences.
>>
>>44706467
Does she have blood?
>>
>>44706257
>>44706467
>>44706507

>>44707257
We need to figure out the spell we did minus soul imprinting so we can do this for Meliora if she wants too.
>>
>>44707257
At a guess, I'd say the only part of her that resembles a machine is the AI code that's been imprinted into her core. I'm entertained by the idea that she has nanite sized chibi versions of herself in her blood though. The whole anime thing to all their code makes me think that.

>>44707559
I doubt we'll be able to, just because we put so many half formed spells into her core before we managed to get one completed.
>>
>>44707769
Life, Oliver and rune magic find away. Heck with blood and rune magic we could make a flesh/machine hybrid body given enough time.
>>
Can golems from flesh and blood become vampires? Can Oliver become a golem?
>>
Why couldn't Meliora be supercharged as well?
>>
>>44708328
We did more than just supercharge, we created an entirely new consciousness. The security bots aren't self aware in the same way Meliora is. It might overwrite her soul. We can ask her, but I doubt if she'd want to take that risk, especially since we were just sorta doing whatever.
>>
>>44708395
Can we not just boost her core with external runes without permanently modifying it?
>>
>>44705986
On the bright side, already having a kid should help the waifu bloat.
>>
>>44708442
We probably could, if we actually knew what we were doing. That will take a lot of study, though. We just sorta threw magic at this til we got lucky.

>>44708554
And yes, i agree. I'm looking forward to the arguments.

It'll also help us seperate the diamobds from the glass, as far as waifus go.

And conflict diamonds are the best diamonds.
>>
When we tell Angie, we need to start off with, "So you remember how Bob Ross always used to say that there were no mistakes, only happy accidents?"
>>
Dunno if OP will read this, but i`ll ask it anyways. With Rune Magic, Blood Magic and Fire Magic, can we make an automatic trigger for our blood to self-ignite? This could produce an excellent defence mechanism against involuntary injury.
>>
>>44706467
I'm going to be working out a lot of that kind of stuff today, one piece at a time. So you'll find out when I do.

>>44706489
Demons and devils only make pacts with things that have proper souls, or that have access to souls that can be bartered, so a vampire making deals with devils would need humans at the ready.

>>44706507
Yes, she does. She has a complete and functional human body, except that her heart is made of magic, and her heart is also her brain. She had trouble talking at first because she had to rewire her nervous system.

>>44706548
I'll get to what she needs next time, and she has her own memories, not yours.

>>44708157
Nope, because you need to have had a human soul to become a vampire. Oliver could transfer his consciousness to a golem, but not his soul.

>>44709662
Yep, and if you trip during track practice you'd have exploding knees.
>>
>>44709855
Does she, as a fully functional human, have a "clock" for the purposes of time of death?
>>
>>44709917
You'll have to ask Angie about that one
>>
>>44709931
Exactly how far have we gone past that small detail of "THERE ARE LINES MORTAL MAGICS WERE NOT MEANT TO CROSS, AND BOY DID YOU FUCK THAT UP"
>>
>>44709949
You reached the point where you needed to stop, but kept going anyway. You may or may not have to hide her away to avoid her getting reaped or destroyed, depending on what happens with Angie.
>>
>>44709974
...how about in relation to Dracula? How much of a massive abomination of magic have we created? Is it like 1/2 a dracula?
>>
>>44709999
You've made a Frankenstein's monster. You have created unnatural life that is, as far as you can tell, probably everlasting. At least 1/2-3/4 Draculas
>>
>>44710067
Well shit.

...this is...a purely accidental thing. It's...I mean...

holy shit.
>>
>>44710099
Technically speaking a large portion of this was Athena's core just balancing and stabilizing naturally. A homunculus uses a basic golem core like any other golem. But you fed her blood, gave her the strength to craft her own body and encouraged her actions. You provided the tools, unintentionally.
>>
>>44710155
So she naturally chose the most stable form of existence with the given materials, and we unintentionally gave her the most ideal materials short of a bottomless font of raw magic.
>>
>>44709855
>Nope, because you need to have had a human soul to become a vampire. Oliver could transfer his consciousness to a golem, but not his soul.
Fair enough. Having our conciousness run on something better than a supercomputer would probably still have its benefits?
>Yep, and if you trip during track practice you'd have exploding knees.
And if we only trigger it to ignite after continued contact (slowly starting to burn after few seconds) with a beeing that is malevolent towards us? This might be especially useful at the Christmas party in Dracula`s castle.
>>
>>44710192
Depends on your definition of ideal, but yes.
>>
>>44710219
Sure, as long as you can avoid going insane. And that could be a thing, sure, but it would be amazingly complex.

>>
Aright, how's this?

>Hey Angie, what's your opinion on Golem Cores?

>Pale imitations of life, nothing to worry about. A golem is incapable of having a soul, so no worries.

>Cool, that's cool, so even a hyper-advanced golem residing in a body of human flesh and blood that it made on its own would be alright?

>...what did you do?

>It was an accident, I swear.

>It's...still a golem...technically...so it doesn't have a soul. Please, do NOT push it any further. That lack of a soul is the only thing not obligating me to destroy it, AND you. Seriously, don't do this shit.
>>
>>44710431
Hey, if Oliver dies can we have Athena's Become the Human Quest?
>>
>>44710565
Probably how we will try to spin it, also we need to buy some really nice gourmet coffee.
>>
>>44710602
That seems reasonable
>>
>>44710565
We're porbably better off just not mentioning her to Angie.
She's self-healing, so no need to see the nurse.
>>
>>44710246
>Sure, as long as you can avoid going insane. And that could be a thing, sure, but it would be amazingly complex.
But considering that Oliver needs to trick death itself, he needs any edge he can get. Modifying this golem core was (except for his quickly paced actions and learning) his first actually exceptional thing he himself produced.

I doubt Angie will tolerate this abomination, we should barter with her for Athena`s core in case she gets annihilated, for housing our consciousness.
>>
>>44710763
Not exactly easy to hide physically and if Angie can feel her dreaming it would be impossible. Getting out in front of it would be wise. Also get Fenright to help.
>>
>>44710815
I wonder how Angie will react to feeling two different bodies made from Oliver's cells, both of which are dying and renewing themselves independently.
>>
>>44710974
Well Athena's DNA is much different based on gender and age alone, so who but you knows?
>>
>>44711153
I don't think she'll take offence.
It wasn't necromancy, we did it by accident, we couldn't replicate it if we even tried, etc.
>>
>>44711309
Actually she's more likely to find it funny, when right after she told you she finds orgasms funny because of all the cells dying, you went and made a whole extra body full of cells that are living and dying. She might make a joke about Athena being one long orgasm.

>>
>>44712467
Well it's already been done. My hope is that since it was accidental and we literally don't know how we did it, it'll just be a black mark against us, not a killing offense. And since Athena's not human, she'll be outside Angie's remit as a reaper.

the issue might become, that the main goal of the quest is to bend the rules very very far. she might get upset if we simply say "someone else did it" when we are the person behind all that. we only do know she is not directly responsible for reaping non-humans that perform necromancy, perhaps she is supposed to inform other angel groups that then send hunters. we don`t want to be Van Helsing`s next target`s mastermind. we need to apply diplomacy carefully.
>>
>>44712942
I'm wanting to make sure we're not Geassed any more before we go vampire. Make sure it's our own choice. Also digging up more info on Mom in general.
>>
>>44712942
There was no suggestion we say someone else did it. We'll tell her the truth, that it was an accident, but also that we're going to look after Athena somehow, regardless of the cost.

If Angie sends hunters after her or informs another angel who takes action (doubtful but possible) we'll just have to defend her. It WOULD make it easy to dive right in and sieze more power from hell. I'm fully willing to dive to the depths of Wrath and Pride to protect our family.
>>
>>44713367
i was referring to the things we are going to do when fighting Dracula/ supporting Dracula/ just trying to mind our own business (whatever we choose) in a huge supernatural war. even if we decide not to resurrect our parents, we will probably be forced to use reality-shattering amounts of magic just for ourselves and our friends to survive.
>>
>>44714195
Ah, i guess I get your meaning now. Don't run on like that, break up your posts to seperate your thoughts.

I agree that we probably will need enough power to tell heaven and hell both to fuck off by the time this is done.
We need to study rune magic more, I'm hoping Athena will be able to help with that.

Up above anon suggested transfering our consciousness into a golem, QM said we wouldn't be able to transfer our soul, and would have a good chance of going insane. But if we perhaps transformed our own body into something else, it could work similar. We've already rewritten the rules of reality by creating Athena. If we were to find a way to make ourselves biologically immortal, we might be not human enough to fall outside the reaper's reach.
Perhaps a mix of science and magic, like Mel and Athena are.
