PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

“Pack it up, pack it up quick!” You, Rana, Anneliese, and Sumire quickly get to packing up your items. Only the ones you can carry on a sprint. The radio and the tents are torn down and thrown beneath snowdrifts. The radio itself is smashed to pieces, then thrown over the side of the trail down the mountain. The rocks will take care of the rest for you. You manage to grab at least a few days worth of food and water for yourself along with your winter jacket. As the sun begins to set on the day, you figure that you can use the cover of darkness to shield you and your girls away from prying eyes.

You suddenly hear a frightening howling in the distance. Sumire stops packing, looking around. “Do they have dogs or something!?”

“Worse!” yells Rana. She bounces around the campsite, sweat popping off of her face as she hurries to get her things together. “They’re like rabid mutts those goons! They almost dragged me off!”

“We have to stick to the cover of darkness,” you say. “The entire thing’s blown.”

“What do you mean blown?” asks Anneliese. “Operator #5 was clear not to engage without his permission!”

“Rana was about to get dragged off, I couldn’t let that happen!” you shout. “We-“ The howling again silences you all.

“Yeah, I’d rather we not sit here and wait for the dogs to come for us.” Sumire shoves her backpack into your arms. “What’s the plan, Libby?”

> Keep together.

“We keep together. If we split up, they’ll just nab us one by one.” You point up the mountain. “We head higher up, we can handle the thin air better than they can.”

“Agh, more climbing!?” Sumire balks, looking up at the mountain.

“Quit whining.” Anneliese pushes Sumire aside, following you as you grab rocks for support and start climbing further up the mountain, forgoing the trail entirely. “Unless you want to be dogfood, I would follow her.”

“Agreed!” Rana starts following you as well, trying to rush her climbing. Sumire rolls her eyes, groaning as she starts climbing as well. The trees, plus the growing darkness over the mountains will give you an edge over the pursuers. Anneliese has the spare radio as well, so once you’re in the clear, you can contact Operator #5 again with the details of the operation. Hopefully he won’t be too mad that you might have blown everything.

The four of you climb further until you reach another flat top to another part of the trail. “Come on!” You’re the first one up. You come down to a kneel and grab Anneliese’s hand. With a hearty tug, you pull her up. Then Rana. Finally, Sumire. Well, if she ever gets up here. “Sumire, come on!” you yell.

“I’m coming!” she yells back. You look to the mountains again, and find that the sun has completely disappeared over the horizon. Darkness is starting to set in. You hold out your hand for Sumire, fumbling a little as your eyes adjust to the night. Finally, she grabs it, and you pull her up. “Jeez! Why-“ You hear some barking in the distance. “What’s that?”

“Dogs!” you hiss. “Come on!” The four of you start sprinting down the trail. Behind you in the distance, probably at least a quarter mile away maybe even less, was the howling dogs pursuing you. And behind them are probably soldiers of the Wolf Pack as well. Finally, you come down to a fork in the road. One is leading down the mountain, apparently in the direction of the Castle, the other is leading further up the mountain away from it.

“Which way!?” yells Sumire.

“This way!” You run towards the right, down the mountain.

“The castle is that way though!” yells Sumire.

“I know!” you shout back. The girls all follow you regardless. The trail here is a lot more clearer. Less snow, more dirt, even some rocks as stepping stones. But you are not leaving here without anything to show for it. You are going to come down and break open Baroness von Streucker’s operation from the inside. Rescue those kids, save the day, nothing out of the ordinary really. The trail starts turning into a stretch of road all of a sudden. You’re not sure when it did thanks to the darkness and your eyes only barely adjusting now to the darkness.

Suddenly, the four of you are lit up by a spotlight. Looking into it, you swore you’d have looked right into the sun. More spotlights light up, tracking you. Guard towers. “There they are!” yells a guard. “Alarm!” A loud klaxon begins sounding across the castle region.

The dogs behind you stride over the trail, snarling and barking mad. They wear thick bulletproof vests, along with blinders over their eyes, allowing only a tiny slit in the front to allow for sight. Their teeth are replaced by razor sharp metal rippers. Perfectly designed for guard duty.

“Stand back!” yells Sumire.

> MAGICAL GIRL LIGHTNING! <

She twirls her glowing naginata, smashing it into the ground. The dogs all pounce and rush at her. Lightning gets in a few slashes, even killing a dog quickly. But she’s immediately swarmed. “Agh! Little- AGH!” Behind the dogs name come the handlers, regular soldiers with rifles and SMGS.

And from the other side of the road come more soldiers of the Wolf Pack. A pair of them drop out of a halftrack, wielding electric prods. They growl at you, advancing on you three slowly.

“Get us an escape route.” They nod, running off to assist Lightning. “These two are mine.” You smack your hands together, glaring at them as your clothes transform and your shields form.

> MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY! <

You smack your shields together, banging on them to psyche yourself up and psyche them down a bit. They both run at you, their electric prods sparkling blue electricity. The one left slashes down. You bring the narrow band of your shield down on his arm, then smack him in the face. He flies back, landing on the ground. The other crashes towards you, tackling you before you can get a good balance. He smacks you into a tree, then jabs you with the prod.

Every bone in your body and every nerve under your skin burns. You can’t help but scream. Your body twitches. There’s still enough freedom to punch him in the liver. He steps back, holding his gut. Then with a loud bang, you smack his head into the ground. You jump up for the finishing blow to his neck.

Suddenly, you’re tackled again by the other Wolf Pack soldier. He smashes you into the ground. Before he can raise a fist to your face, you dodge. The crater he leaves next to your head signals that you’re in for a very bad time. You smack him in the gut with your shield, again and again until he finally breaks and jumps off. You can hear the gunfire in the background from Tiger and Bomber fighting off the krauts.

“Libby!” yells Lightning as she begins running for it under the cover of Bomber and Anneliese’s gunfire. “Come on!” You nod, forget this. You start running too.

Suddenly, you feel a shot rip right through your leg. You scream as you fall to the ground. Your leg refuses to respond. You look back to see Wolf Pack alpha himself advancing on you. “No!” Lightning starts running for you.

“No!” You raise your hand to her, begging for her to stop. She does, surprised. “Go! Run! Run! I’ll be fine!” She looks around at the advancing German reinforcements. “Go!” She stomps the ground, then quickly runs into the forest with Bomber and Tiger. You grab your bleeding leg, groaning. With great difficulty, you force yourself to a kneeling stance as the man himself comes to bear.

> Lieutenant Zähne <
> Alpha Leader of the Wolf Pack <

You try to hit him with your shield, but it’s too slow and too tired. He grabs it and shoves it away. Then he knocks you onto your back. Before you can resist even further, he stomps his boots right onto your boot. You shriek, feeling your bones bend and your veins pop inside of your leg. You cover your face, trying to soak up the tears of pain welling in your eyes. You hear more soldiers advance on you, and suddenly, you feel a collar wrap around your neck. Your magical power is sapped. Your hair turns to its natural colors. And your outfit reverts back to the dull disguise you wear. Darn it. You were hoping you’d take more of them with you before they’d catch you.

The sound of a truck comes. You pull your hand away from your face to see a truck roll up on the road, the headlights lighting you and the Wolf Pack up. Out of the side comes the familiar silhouette of the Baroness herself.

> Leader of the Wolf Pack and owner of the Castle <

She steps up closer to you, and squints at you as you lie on your back. Blood continues to pour out of your open wound on your leg. She clearly intends to take her time with you now. “Hm. Magical Girl Liberty. We finally meet.”

You nod. “Yeah. We do.” You slowly sit up, then take a glance at her husband still resting his boot on your wound. You look back up at her again. “You won’t get away with whatever you’re doing, you realize that, right?”

She tilts her head. “On the contrary, I believe I will ‘get away’ with whatever I am doing, ja? It seems to me you think I am doing something immoral, illegal. What, you still believe the United States is some world policeman? Naïve, very naïve.”

“I have friends, they’ll come back for me,” you state.

“And we will welcome them,” she says with a smirk. “Me and my husband are very hospitable people.” He grunts, folding his arms. “And the Wolf Pack make very excellent servants. Now, do you have any last words before we bag you and send you to the dungeons?”

You sigh. “At least Knives ain’t here.”

“Feh.” The Baroness apparently doesn’t appreciate what you just said. “Take a muzzle to her.” Suddenly, you feel a tight grip on your hair, and a stinging pain as your head is thrown back. Around your mouth and nose is a black muzzle, apparently to keep you from shouting. “Sergeant.” One of the Wolf Pack soldiers stomps his foot, saluting. “Take her to the dungeon, see to it she gets an hour there. Once her hour’s up, we’ll put her in rehabilitation. Schnell.” She claps her hand. The Sergeant grabs you by the arm and cuffs you. You groan as your leg stymies your movement. A bag is thrown over your head.

Great, captured again. You’re really loving this tradition.

-

-

Over the course of the truck ride and the ascent down into the dungeon, your leg at least has healed somewhat. Thank God for magical healing powers. But you did feel that during the check in process, they took the earring containing Kirby. Great, you’re minus one very helpful Messenger. And in enemy territory too. You can’t see much through the wool knitting of the sack they threw over your head, and to make things worse you can’t even hear anything going on through it either. Either things are orderly around you, or they keep their prisoners quiet.

You’re suddenly thrown down to the ground on a damp stone floor. Your sack is pulled off, and you find that you’re in a dimly lit dungeon filled with metal cells. None of them except for yours are occupied, save for the one next to you containing that one girl you saw at the beer hall today.

The Sergeant growls at you, pushing you back down to the ground as you try to sit up. He shuts the metal gate behind him as he leaves, then steps back up the stairs into the castle. You try your chains. They had the good sense to cuff you from behind at least. And this muzzle isn’t exactly helping things either.

“They got you too, yes?” says the girl. She gently tugs at the collar around her neck. You look over at her, squinting. You nod. “How did you try escaping?”

“I didn’t escape, I tried to infiltrate,” you mutter. Her eyes go wide. “I’m an agent of the SSO. Magical Girl Liberty.”

“You are the Magical Girl Liberty?” She grips the bars, looking at you in awe. Really? She’s heard of you. “I’ve heard stories from some of the Italian fascists back home, I did not believe you really were… wow.” She smiles happily. “So I am not alone then.” You shake your head. You’d smile back, but this muzzle is keeping your emotions hidden from her. She offers her hand through the bar. “Alena Abandonato.” You motion to your hands, cuffed behind yourself. “Oh. Um. Hehe…” She twiddles her fingers, whistling a bit. “Awkward.”

> Alena Abandonato <
> Magical Girl of Italy <

“How did you get here?” you ask.

“Baroness von Streucker found me,” she says. “Arrested me, put me in bondage. Claimed I would be part of her plans soon enough. I did not want to stick around to find out.” She tests the bars a bit. “She has other girls here too, probably like you and me but I do not know if they are even here.”

“Working on an escape plan?” you ask, with a smirk.

“Well, the last two times did not work.” She shrugs, leaning on her cell. “Unless you have a plan.”

“Well, that remains to be seen.” You shrug, standing up and leaning on your bars closest to her. “Listen, Alena. Tell me everything you know. What are they doing in there?” you ask.

Alena rubs her chin, trying to recall it. “Well, it is a breeding program.” Ha! You knew it. “They haven’t started the actual breeding process yet, don’t get me wrong. But they have acquired girls like you and me from all over the world to participate it. Sometimes recruiting, sometimes kidnapping, you know. I’ve met a few girls there who were actually adopted by the Baroness.”

“What are they trying to breed though?” you ask. “More Magical Girls?”

“No. Like I said, I thought I was the only Magical Girl here. If you are here, that must mean there are more. That may not be their purpose. It is probably incidental.” She sighs, looking down to the damp floor. “I would rather kill myself though if it means I have to erm… breed with Lieutenant Zähne.”

“Likewise,” you say. “What else though? Certainly there’s got to be some kind of ulterior motive behind it all, right? Are they trying to breed some kind of supersoldier or something?”

“I don’t know,” she says. “And honestly, I’d really rather not know. I just want to leave. I want to go home. My mother is probably worried sick about me.” Hm. You wonder how your mother is doing right now. Hopefully she’s still back at the museums. “And Italy needs someone like me to fight the fascists in power.”

“There has to be more though,” you ask. “What about the Wolf Pack, what do you know about them?”

“Twenty of them,” she explains. “All of them like Zähne. But Zähne is the biggest one. I am not entirely convinced they are human though. They seem off.”

“What gave it away.” You didn’t want to sound sarcastic, but well… it just slipped out.

She sighs, sitting down on the floor. Her white dress is stained by all the grime and muck on the stones. “They scare me. They’re not human. They are like dogs. Please tell me you have a plan.”

“Well, sure I do,” you say. “But listen-“

She grabs the bars, looking at you pleadingly. “I have to get out of here, please. I will tell you more, just promise me, you can get me out of here!” Her eyes water a little.

You nod, leaning your head against the cold, sticky iron bars. “I promise, Alena.” She smiles a little. “… tell me something, what was it like back home in Italy? Was it nice?”

She sighs, looking up at the ceiling. “My home has the most beautiful countryside you can ask for. Green hills stretching on and on… and then every morning my mother would cook me the finest breakfast out of the fish from the market and from potatoes from the farm. Sometimes she’d even take me with her on errands into town.” She sits down, still reminiscing. “I remember there was the cutest boy handing out newspapers to passerbys for a few coins. Never did work up the courage to even talk to him.” She frowns a little. “Wonder what he’s doing now…” She looks up at you. “You have someone like that?”

The first one to come to mind is Sumire, but you’re not going to tell her that. “Yeah.” You sigh a bit. “But it’s not exactly something I want to talk about right now. We have to figure out a way to get out of here, you and me. And we have to stop whatever is happening in this castle.”

“Right, right.” You hear the steel doors open again. “… are they here for me or you?”

The guards that walk in stop in front of your cell. They’re here for you. They open the door, then grab you by the arm. You look back at Alena. “Hey, don’t worry, I’ll be back for you, okay!” She nods, watching you as you’re dragged away up the stairs.

They don’t allow you to even get a good footing as you’re marched through long stone corridors. They’re kept lit by electric lights along the ceilings and the walls. Swastika flags are hung from the walls, their red fabrics staining the cold stones like blood. Where should be wooden doors are now metal bulkheads now, and past one they lead you in. Baroness von Streucker awaits you behind a chair that unnerves you by its shape alone.

Why? It’s the same kind of chair they use at the dentist.

“Liberty. Strap her in.” They shove you in the chair, then begin strapping your arms and legs into the rests. “Liberty. This is what I like to call rehabilitation. Here in the Castle, those who attempt to escape our little program more than once, receive this treatment. Let me describe specifically what will happen to you. You will be strapped into this chair. And up here…” She pats an apparatus, that holds what appears to be a welding mask attached to some sort of box. “… is our rehabilitator.”

“What, is that supposed to scare me?” you mutter.

“It usually scares the girls, ja,” she says. She grabs the mask. “This one is different. Usually we play movies that tell of the Reich’s triumph, and why it is foolish to resist.”

“How is it so different?” you ask, not really caring for the answer.

“It’s a movie, ja,” she says with a smirk. “But, how good are you with your American history?”

“I like to think I’m pretty good,” you say.

“We’ll see.” She slowly shuts the mask over your face. Nothing but blackness engulfs your vision. You can’t feel your arms. You can’t feel your legs. You can barely hear anything. “Enjoy. The first half hour is on the American negro.” You grit your teeth. You can stomach this. You can stomach anything.

It’s only an hour. The first image pops up. Your heart starts racing. You take a deep breath.

It’s only an hour.
