"Where are we going?"

"To that big castle, in the distance." You point to the peak of the fortress in the distance.

"Really?" The girl riding behind you seems uncertain. "I don't think I'm allowed there. I should really be getting home."

Maybe you should just ride in silence. Every little thing this girl says is like a punch to your sisterly heart.

You are Yuuki Kuchinashi, and the last few days have been depressing from a big-sister standpoint.
Yesterday, you found out the 'princess' of another kingdom may be a victim of longstanding abuse. THEN, the night before, you found out the hero of that kingdom may be mentally scarred and berated every night. This doesn't even count this morning when you had to escort the young Louise to Gallete to help her fight a dragon, something she was expected to do because she's their hero and not because she had any capacity to do it.

Plus, that doesn't even count what you found when you were in Gallete. Namely, a little girl imprisoned in a dungeon who may not have seen the sun before.

A part of you feels that this entire world is made of child abusers. Cody said earlier that you tend to have a cooler head than he does, but that isn't entirely true. If you found even one more abuse: you would grab this girl, Louise, and Kayda and take them back with you to Bruschetta to live like princesses. There is NO WAY you trust leaving any of these young kids with Catland and Bearland at this point. Not with the evidence you have right now.

At least Biscotti is still clean in your eyes. Jack and Tuile are more likely to abuse their livers than another person. You're not sure about that sheepland, but those the two kids from there seem happy enough. Squirrel-land seems OK, but their princess is a looney. Thankfully, that's Cody's problem to solve.

Speaking of which, Cody left the job of asking around the castle about this girl's heritage to you. Something which he only did because he felt you were less likely to punch someone out and start a war. That, too, is only half-true. Likely even the opposite if you don't get the answers you're looking for.

"Excuse me? Shouldn't I be getting home? Dad might be mad if I'm not there." The young girl tugs on your sleeve once more.

>"That's not your home anymore."
>"It's fine. I'm about to go ask for permission for you to have a better home."
>"You're coming home with me from now on."
>"Your home will look like this. A great big castle, all to yourself!"

"It's fine, we're gonna ask for permission for you to have a better home."
"..A better home?"

"That's right!"

"..But I like home. How can home be better?"

Oh that strikes your heart with more accuracy than any arrow could.
You remember being told of children who didn't have homes, and how you should be thankful that you were born to a family who would never, ever have a problem like that for any of their children.
This is a new breed of completely wrong and disgusting problem. This is having a home that doubles as a prison that you don't want to leave.

More and more, the idea of grabbing all the children and just running away to Bruschetta is seeming like a tempting proposal. Of course, this would probably also start a WAR. It's a trade-off that has you seriously stopping for pause.

So much so, that you're to the point where you would probably beat the living hell out of any Catlanders you saw right now.

In fact, there's one now.

Strolling in your direction with his arms over his head is Gallete's quartermaster, Axel. He's walking in the direction of the bar with a dumb grin on his face. His stupid cat tail sways as he walks, and his ears twitch in the dusk breeze.

"Ah! Yuuki, everything go well at the castle? Who's the little girl?"

I'm gonna kill him.

>No! Resist the urge!
>Knock his lights out
>Hey Axel, do you know anything about this girl here?
>Do not let ANYONE from Catland know ANYTHING about this girl, go straight to Aligot and ask the questions to him. He probably has a spell that tracks lineage

"None of your business." You say, abruptly and curtly. "I'm headed to the castle."

With that, you whip the reigns on your bird and continue riding toward the castle entrance. Axel suddenly seems extremely confused and spins around.
"Huh, okay then." He says, continuing his gait.

You can't risk it. She was locked up in Gallete's dungeons for a reason. Even if you think it's complete garbage and that everyone in Catland should be locked in the stocks for imprisoning a small child who may be nobility; it's still something that they may have a less than charitable view on.

"Aren't you gonna ask that man?" She tugs on your sleeve again.
"Do you know that man?"
"No."

"It's probably best that way."

You cannot even picture the length of the conversation you're going to have with Charlotte, Gallete's princess.

Maybe you should have asked Louise to stay with Jack tonight. Or maybe you can have her over again.
Maybe.. you're just being paranoid.

You step inside of Biscotti's castle as two of the soldiers on duty salute. You're not sure when they started saluting you, but the gesture feels a little too formal.

A farrier takes your bird to the corral for the night as you gently lift the girl off. Not bringing attention to it, you gently wrap her tail around you so it doesn't swing all around when you walk.

After all, a bunch of Gallete's commanding forces are staying here while their castle is retaken by the forward guard. You don't want anyone who is 'in' on this blowing her cover.
Not that it would do anything at this point, anyway.

You carry the girl over to the armory. Making sure no one else is inside; you peek your head in and call for Fritelli.

"Psst!"

After a few moments, Fritelli emerges holding what appears to be Louise's axe.

"Oh, hey Yuuki, what-"
"No time!" You cut her off, and push the girl inside. "Wait right here with her, do not let anyone in."

With a dash, you bolt from the door and down the hallway toward the library.

Aligot is dragged in behind you. He's still holding an earmarked book with a very concerned look on his face.
"You're not answering my question, Yuuki. Did everything go well?" He tries to struggle against your arm. He should know better than that.

Quickly, you shove him inside and slam the door behind him.
"Is anyone else in here?"
"No one comes in here late at night." Fritelli pets the girl's head, her little ears twitch. "Perfect time for smithin'"

"Do either of you recognize this girl?" You cut off Aligot before he says something.

They both seem to orbit around the poor girl. They move aside strands of her hair, and inspect sections of her clothing. You can tell the extra attention is making her nervous.

"I have no idea."
"Beats me."

"Go on, sweetie." You tap her shoulder. "Tell them your full name."

"It's.." She hesitates for a moment, she's still clearly nervous about the sudden attention. "Esther."
"Esther..?"

"..Di Gallete."

"Esther... Di Gallete."
"Mm hmm."

They both stare at her, their heads pan back toward me, and then back to her.
"You're not gonna yell at me again like that mean girl with the axe did, are you?"

"I want to hug her." Fritelli says, plainly.
"I'm confused. She has the same last name as Charlotte."

"That's not all, she claims to be the princess of Gallete."
"It's true!" She interjects.

"Wait, where did you find her? Is she like.. one of Charlotte's cousins or something?"
"I don't know! We found her in a dungeon below Gallete. She was chained into a tiny room."

That gets their attention. Aligot, as usual, asks the wrong thing at the wrong time.

"I SEEM mad?" you cross your arms. "Oh no no no, let me tell you what mad is. I want to go right up to every Gallete generals room right now and hang them upside down by their underwear. I want to go take apart Gallete castle brick by brick until it's a pile of blocks. I want to take every kid in this castle and run far away where no one can abuse them. These are things I might do if I don't get the answers I want, understand?"

Fritelli is about to say something, but you interrupt her. "FURTHERMORE! If I decide to do any of these things, you know Jack would be right behind me the whole way."

Aligot seems shaken, "She's right."
"Jack might do it just for the sport of it all." Fritelli seems oddly sheepish.

"Which is why, I want this sorted out. I want this young lady living in a CASTLE where she belongs and not the basement of Gallete. If she ever goes back to Gallete, that is. Get an expert, get someone who can find missing persons. Please do SOMETHING before I jump to the worst of conclusions."

"Hang on. Hang on." Aligot puts his hands up. "We don't know anything about this girl. M-maybe I might know someone who does? Gougere is staying here, and she's the archmage of Gallete. Would that help? She's very learned on Gallete's history."

"Fritelli, watch the girl."
"Eh?"
"Okay? shouldn't we take her with us."

"No! I don't want anyone from Gallete knowing about this explicitly."
"So.."
"We're going to go talk with this Gougere person. Then we're going to present the idea to her and see if there's any reaction."

"That seems.. really suspicious."
"If I can't trust this Gougere person, I'm packing her up tonight and taking her to Bruschetta."
"That's a little brash, Yuuki.." Fritelli's ears sag.

"No it's not! One kid being abused is too many."
"Well, I agree but-"

"Then it's settled!" You grab Aligot's hand. "Off we go!"
"Hold on! Wait! We should present a little more evidence than what a little girl says!"

"Isn't that enough!? I found her inside of a stone box beneath Gallete castle!"
"Yuuki, please. Calm down."

He approaches the girl, she slowly seems to retract at his presence.
"Yuuki, are you aware of a royal emblem? It's a birthmark on the body of Nobility."

"What? I thought that was just a Bruschetta thing. Annetta has one on her left-"
WAIT, HOLD ON. THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SECRET!

"..-What are you saying we do, Aligot? Strip the poor girl down right here?" You nearly reach for her.
"No. No!" Aligot huffs, he looks insulted. "Gallete nobility have it right-"

He reaches over toward the girl, she recoils slightly before calming down. His hand goes behind her head and seems to pat her neck.
"..There, it's on her lower neck."

Fritelli slowly bundles Esther's curtain of hair into a ponytail. There's a black marking on her upper back. It looks like a marking of a coat-of-arms.
"She's definitely nobility of some kind. Maybe distant cousin?"
"Hey, something wrong with this one." Fritelli notes. "It's.. upside down?"

"I don't like this.." Esther sulks.

"Hold on, I got something for this." Aligot reaches into his book, and pulls out what appears to be a layer of black, slick oil sticking to a metallic plate.

"What's that?"
"A little something I've been working on." He holds the plate up to Esther's neck, placing his other hand just outside the space between her neck and the metal plate. There's a brilliant flash emitted from his hand, and Esther nearly jumps from her skin.

"I call it a 'photograph'." He smiles, with pride. "It makes an almost life-like picture of something. I was wanting to use it on the magic circles, because Jack's sketching abilities leave much to be desired."
"So we just show it to her?"

"Yeah, I'll take a minute to develop it, and we can just show her the emblem."
You nearly slam the door down, as he awkwardly follows along. The hallways are oddly empty this time of day. Maybe it's because all of the maids are busy dealing with the extra capacity caused by Gallete's upper class staying here.

They'll have plenty of work to do once you knock all their teeth out.

You walk into the library with Aligot trailing behind you. There's a table with a mountain of books set out around it.

Behind them, sits a lady with droopy ears and a long laboratory coat. She seems to be reading two books at the same time, somehow.

She regains focus just as you pop into her vision. Aligot quickly ducks into another room with the plate in hand.

"Hello? Oh! You're Yuuki!"

"Hello! You must be Gougere!" You smile, putting on a front for her. "I've heard a lot about you!"

"Oh? I hope they're good things!" She giggles. You want to wipe it off her face, but you're not gonna vent your frustration here where everyone can see.

You just got to wait until Aligot gets back. You don't know where he went, but you think he's right. You need to present evidence to her.
"So, what brings you here? I heard you 'helped' Louise take back Gallete's castle! I want to say-"

Without missing a beat, she stands up and grabs my hand!
"THANK YOU SO MUCH for going with Louise! I was really terrified when I heard she was 'deployed'. Who does that to a little girl!? The only thing that kept me from running over there right now myself was when I learned you were with her. So, thanks."

'Who does that to a little girl?' You're one to talk, Lady.

"Did you find out what that dragon wanted? Was it the gold vault?"

You decide not to blow your cover just yet. You want to tell her about the dragon who was ALSO imprisoned under Gallete, but a part of you feels like that can wait.
You don't want her screaming for guards or something when she realizes how much you have seen.

"Not a clue."
"Darn. I'm worried about it coming back. That's why I made this!"

She holds up a section of her book.

"It's based off the circles. I think I can make a circle that excludes certain life from it! Then it just teleports them elsewhere and no one has to deal with it!"

'Elsewhere'? Like Bruschetta castle, great.

"So what brings you here? Shouldn't you be busy resting? I didn't expect you back until tomorrow, even! We should have a huge party in the Hero's honor!"

"Say, speaking of which."
You try to hold back the venom in the next thing you're going to say.
It's difficult, but you manage.

"Why was Louise, a little girl who still has to be reminded to put on underwear in the morning, deployed to fight a dragon? The big scary beast made out of claws and teeth kind of dragon."

"It's kind of.. complicated from a political standpoint."
You stare at her, blankly. "Who cares about politics? You sent a little girl to handle something a hundred times her size. "

"No no, you see. She's still a hero, and therefore should be able to take it easily. You have to understand, most of the generals haven't even seen her yet."

That seems to add insult to this whole thing.
"Your generals haven't met your own hero?"
"Well! It's complicated. Gallete has a BIG army, and the Hero is viewed as like the princess' bodyguard. That's usually outside their jurisdiction. Technically, Louise is their boss!"

This is the dumbest thing you've ever heard!

"So because of politics, that means they sent a little girl out to fight a dragon?"
"Well, I- I don't have any say in the military side, but it's not like they're evil, they just didn't want to-"

"Gougere!"

Your attention turns to Aligot, who is holding a thin sheet of paper.
Gently, he overlays some of the paper onto the oil. The mediums seem to 'mix', and form a black-and-white picture! It looks just like an oil painting!

"This symbol, where did it come from?"

Gougere's eyes glaze over, and she grasps the paper.

"Where did you get this?"
"Gougere, something strange is happening. The heroes found a girl in Gallete's dung-"

Immediately, Gougere jumps up and snaps her palm over Aligot's mouth.
"SHH! SHHHH!"

Of course, this just makes even MORE people look at her.

There is only one sort of good cat-people and that is the dead sort.

Oi. This cat was the first and one of the few damn cats who actually thanked Jack for his help in saving Loiuse. For now, she in my good books till further notice.

Other cats suck though. Doubt that will change anytime soon.
>>
>>44660194
Yeah I think their might be only four cats in the whole of catland that are alright 1. the mage, 2. her niece, 3. that tsundere cat knight, 4. the princess (Princess is currently in doubt due to recent discoveries).

Writing!

I am so tired but I am no where near where I wanted to stop with Yuuki. How do I solve this suffering? Suggestions welcome.
>>

Coffee

>>44660227
Princess was a dick to Jack when he rescued Louise.
>>
>>44660227
What will really suck about all this is if the princess herself was completely unaware. I'm getting the feeling that the king had an affair and didn't want it to get out.
>>
>>44660230
ice cold water to drink

it works well
>>
>>44660253
I thought she was alright. At first she was skeptical but she let Jack deal with it and was one of the two to thank him and Madeline as well. But I might not be remembering correctly.
>>
>>44660281
Well, I know it wasn't her that kept trying to get Madeline to leave the castle quickly. Just the guardsmen or something.
>>
>>44660351
It was Tsun cats elder brother that wouldn't let her in. Even after we helped him save his sister from a demon and everything. The Dick.
>>
Kill all cats.
>>
>>44660381
Wasn't it also after Loiuse got better Jack found Madeline leaving the castle without a goodbye because the guards were trying to shoo her out quickly too?
>>
>>44660417
yep
>>
I'm going to be honest, it was not my goal to make the cats out to be such dicks.

It just kinda.. happened.
>>
>>44660417
Probably. I need to re-read the threads. Their loss, Madeline's great. HFL.
>>
>>44660448
They are cats. Cats are dicks. It's a rule of nature.
>>
>>44660482
This. Funnily enough it kinda works out. Cats are both dicks and extremely stupid in some cases. So uh, in that case you did a good job?
>>
>>44660510
Yep

"Stop, stop." You put your hands up, slowly edging the hag away. "You forgot to explain why she was down in Gallete's dungeon. I think you should start."

"Gallete's.."

Her face goes from the bright blush and tear-stained cheeks to paleness.
"She was in Gallete's dungeon the WHOLE TIME?"

"That's not what I was looking for." You can feel just how unamused you are right now

"..I need to sit down."

Aligot pulls up a chair for her, and she flops into it. Her hands clutch her face.
"She was right in front of me, the whole time. I can't believe it."

"SPEAK UP!" You yell. "I'm this close to starting a war with your country to free every little girl you have in your dungeons, so tell me right now what she was doing in a tiny room closed off with chains!"

"That's horrible.." She says to herself, once more.

Aligot puts his hand on your shoulder. "Ease up, will you? Gougere doesn't work well under pressure."
"Good, maybe she'll tell the truth under pressure."

"Her name's Elise, right?" Gougere says, sadness dripping from her voice.
"Wrong." You say, sternly. "Her name's 'Esther'."

"They didn't even know her own name.. I doubt she remembers me."

"YOU don't know her own name!" You hit your hands on her armrests. "What was she doing down there?!"

"She's Charlotte's half-sister. Her father, after the Queen left him; he was a bit- rambunctious."
"Explain."

"He.. No one expected him to father another child. He was too old. When Elise came along, no one wanted to bring it to light. So.. we raised her. Just us, the castle staff. She was like our own daughter. She was only three the last time I saw her."

"The last time you saw her." You repeat, dryly. This is more and more like some dumb sob story.
Gougere nods, "It was the fifth day of summer. We had just tucked her into bed, there was a warm moonlight shining on her crib. That's the last time I saw her. She was taken, in the dead of night. We got some ransom notes for a few months, but we couldn't come forward about it. Who would believe us? After a while, they stopped coming. I gave up hope."

"That's a nice story you have." You cross your arms. "Any more silly contrivances you want to add to it? Because I think I've read this book, too."
"I don't care if you believe me or not. What matters is that you found her."

>Good!
>I'm not feeling confident enough to let you see her. How do I know you didn't kidnap her?
>How do I know any of this is true?
>Any witnesses?
>Can anyone verify?

This not these

As I think the only ones that will be able to verify are other Cats. Also we should show her the picture we found with Esther. And tell her she says her father put her in their.

Yesh Yuuki. Calm down a tad, won't you?
>>

Can you blame her? After all of this stuff of catland being dug up, it's understandable that she's on edge.
>>
>How do I know any of this is true?

Everyone, I have more I want to get on this storyline; but I'm tired. I just fell asleep in my chair and was only woken up from a program.

This will be last post of the night. We'll revisit this sometime.

"How do I know any of this is true? I want nothing more than to believe it, but I find it hard to believe that she was in your own dungeon and you didn't know."

"I don't have any proof."

"Any witnesses?"
"Just the castle staff, I'm sure you trust them as much as me."

"can ANYONE verify?"
"Only people you wouldn't believe."

Gougere has gone from trusting you completely to seemingly like a broken woman. She buries her face in her hands in the only chair in the room.

"Gougere, I'm sorry for being so harsh."
"Don't be. I'm happy you found her." She replies, voice shakey.

"You just have to understand why I can't trust anyone on this, right?"
"I understand, and encourage it."

"There has to be SOMETHING that proves some of this." Aligot chimes in. "What about the girl's mother?"
"I haven't talked to her in years."

Suddenly, something comes to mind.
You DID take something that could identify her earlier.

Cody handed it to you: it was something she had. A tiny pendant with a picture inset in the middle.

"Gougere?" You lean down to her. "Do you recognize anyone in this picture?"

She adjusts her glasses at the tiny picture. It's a group portrait of several strange people you've never seen before. In the center is very clearly Esther. On one side is a woman with hair very similar to hers, and on the other is a towering man. On the left of the woman is a mustached man.

"That's the King, Elise, and-"
She readjusts her glasses.
"I don't know who the woman is, but that's the head butler on her left. Where did you get this?"
"It was in her room."

Gougere reaches into her baggy clothes, from it she pulls a chain with a tiny heart on the end.
It snaps open an reveals a very similar portrait. Several people, along with Gougere, are on both sides of an infant in the center of the picture. An infant with short, black hair.
One of the people there appears to be the same mustached man. His suit is painted a bit lighter here.

"What does it mean?"
"How should I know.. Yuuki, I have one favor to ask."

"What?"

"Did anyone from Gallete see you with her, coming in?"
"Yeah. Axel."

Gougere thinks about it for a second, before looking back up to you.
"I'm afraid you may have to leave with her, tonight. For Bruschetta."
"No! Gougere don't scare her!"

"What else can we do!? She's not safe here!"

This is a headache. You wish Jack was sober so you could just have him beat someone up and fix everything.

Now hold on Yuuki, YOU can also go beat someone up and fix everything. I mean, you're already in mama bear mode anyway.

Thanks for the thread everyone. I'm sorry I didn't get this finished tonight.

I'm just really, really tired. I think I'm going to go collapse.

Next thread is for Tuesday. Hopefully I'll be able to finish this up then and we can get back with what we love most: Drinking and fondling.

Until next time. Let me know what you think so far, and let me know if this has changed your opinion of catland and it's fuzzy inhabitants any.

Okay so hear me out Announcer. On our way out. Can we just punch one just ONE random catguard through a wall? Just one? I need this man. It's an itch and I need it to be scratched.
>>
>>44661793
I'm sure more than one cat is going to get pummeled in the future.
