"I can lead you there!" She exclaims again. "But the case files are all written in German, so it might not do much good..."

"I can understand the language well. It's not a problem." You say. The girl looks even more impressed.

"You're a really smart guy, Ryouta-kun. With someone like you helping out, I'm sure we'll get our guy no problem! Well, follow me!" She hops off the lamppost, darting away in long, quick jumps. You follow after her.

After arriving at the local police station, the relevant case files are easy enough to access. As you look through the folder, Moeka sits on a nearby desk, lazily swinging her feet.

There were five victims total so far, all women with no apparent connections to each other, ages varying from 19 to 56. They were all found inside a mansion one at a time, with the first victim being the 44 year old owner of the mansion, Anna Klein; it is known that the building was sold about a year ago, though the original owner, Martin Kramer, has alibis for all of the crimes. The legs of the victims were removed - 'as if chewed off by a large animal' is a common description used here; the attached photographs supplement that description quite accurately. Investigators don't believe that the wounds were actually caused by bites, but by some currently unknown artificial means.

Even when the house was being watched by the police, a new victim still appeared inside of it. Because of that fact, the detective in charge of the case, Josefina Gorman, believes that the crimes were committed by a policeman with access to the secured area.

Steward Faust, a police officer and husband of the latest victim, has been detained as a potential suspect.

Judging by those unexplained 'bite wounds', it seems very likely that the perpetrator here is a Hollow. You ask Moeka about the recent Hollow activities in the city, but the girl shakes her head.

"I purified the ones that popped up, but none of them were anywhere near that haunted house." She must mean the mansion where the bodies were found. "If there were, I'd know for sure, since I have this nifty thing," She proudly brandishes the Denreishinki. It's still possible that the Hollow in question could somehow hide from detection, though that's a scary thought. But if that were the case, you think that the Hollow would be aiming for Shinigami rather than humans, as they make for a much better meal. ...Or it really could be a human, like the Kido user you're looking for. You can't think of a spell that could be used to inflict those kinds of injuries, though.

"Well, are we done here? Where should we go next, Ryouta-kun?" Moeka seems eager to leave this place, or maybe she just wants to help directly again, instead of sitting around and waiting.

You nod at her, but before you go, you look one more time through the files, studying them carefully.

Judging by the amounts of blood found on the crime scene, the victims must have been killed there. They sustained no other injuries before the fact. With the exception of the first victim, there was no reason for any of the women to have been in the mansion, and when police began to keep an eye on the building, there was no way for them to have entered without the police being aware. It is likely that some of them were kept there for several days before being killed. Police found no signs of restraints or drugs having been used on the victims.

Steward Faust has no confirmable alibi for the previous murders and a motive to kill his wife - they've had a falling out and were trying for a divorce around the same time that the crimes have started to occur. Some other investigators are skeptical about this, believing that if Steward really was the murderer, he would have started with his with his wife, but currently, Steward is the best trail the police have to pursue.

There's a map of the city in the office you've broken into. You ask Moeka to show the locations of the victims' houses on it, which she does, and then you ask about the paper tags. She thinks about it for a while, and then points at a few places. There aren't enough tags to form a circle, just a somewhat curved line, but even after you mentally complete the circle, none of the houses are in it.

If you were to increase the size of your mental image by a considerable margin, it wouldn't be impossible to cover at least one of the addresses, but that seems like a stretch. The area covered by the tags in your first mission was nowhere near that large. The tags Moeka found are nowhere near the mansion, either.

It's quite a ways from the mansion and the place of residence of one of the victims, whose body was still discovered in the mansion, regardless. The locations that Moeka pointed at seem fairly scattered in general. Does that mean the victims are all random, after all?

"Let's head to the mansion." You say, to which the girl nods again.

From the police station, it takes the better part of an hour to reach it.

"There, that's the place." The redhead says, pointing at a fenced off mansion on the top of a hill. It's a rather lavish, two story building. All of the lights are off. People seem to be steering clear of the place, though you can spot policemen frequently making rounds in the vicinity. Because of the things that have been happening, this place be quite unsettling to the average person. But in your position, with the paranormal reduced to just another scientific field, 'haunted houses' like these don't really appear eerie at all. But it seems that it's not the case for every Shinigami.

"Uh... Can you go by yourself, Ryouta-kun? I mean... I'm not good at looking around, so you probably don't need me there, anyway, r-right? I'll wait for you..." Moeka speaks up, looking kind of nervous. You ask her what's wrong. "N-nothing, ahaha! I just... Like it outside more, you know? The winter is so nice and cool... It's probably stuffy in that building... And I'm more of an outdoor person, so... well..."

"I'll go, then." You say.

Moeka lets out a relieved sigh. "Reliable brave guys are just the best..." She mumbles. "I'll cover you, Ryouta-kun! From... here."

The mansion is a ways off from the building you're currently standing on, so that's not particularly helpful.

"If you scream, I'll probably hear it from here." She reassures you and pats you on the back. You kind of doubt that, but there's probably nothing worth screaming about there. "Well, good luck, Ryouta-kun!"

You leave her behind, approaching the building from the front door. You phase right through it, entering the mansion effortlessly. It's dark here. The curtains are closed; the moon is barely a crescent tonight, providing hardly any lighting. The light of the brightly lit city struggles to reach here. It takes some time for your eyes to adjust. You'd rather not touch anything here, but you slide aside the curtains. It improves your vision considerably. You can finally discern something.

The first things you see are... webs. On the inside, the mansion is covered in thick, massive webs. You've felt something strange on your skin as you moved around, but you didn't think it'd be... this. Studying them for even a moment reveals their spiritual origin, prompting you to draw your sword.

A large, not even remotely humanoid shadow looms on the other side of the entrance hall, a pair of yellow, starved eyes shining at its front. It's wary, ready to spring to hostility, and yet not attacking. Why wouldn't it? Seems like the perfect chance.

"You aren't the usual girl. What are you here for, Shinigami?" It instead seems content to ask you questions. Would things have been different if Moeka was here? It chuckles, its laughter tired, hoarse. "I suspect we're both looking for the same thing."

Your sword is pointed at him, but a direct fight with a Hollow, especially in this domain tangled in its bizarre webs, is not going to end in your favor. You spot something next to a pillar near the monster. Something caught in its webs, something long. ...It's a person. She's still breathing. So that must mean this thing is responsible for those crimes. It's showing the woman off to you, you're almost certain. For some reason, it wants you to know that she's here. Is it planning to use the human as a hostage?

And just what does he mean, 'looking for the same thing'? Is he trying to cut a deal?

So what does this thing look like? Can we see it or detect where it's coming from? What's the decor in the mansion? Old and abandoned like a classic scooby-doo set or a new and until recently, well kept residence that's now covered in spooky spider webs? How is the lighting? Any police presence?

"What is it?" You ask in German, which is the language this Hollow's been using. That means he must have originated from around these parts.

When the Hollow understands that you're not planning to flee, it continues.

"You're looking for someone who can use magic, aren't you? That's someone I need, too." The Hollow's frame skitters over to the human woman caught in its webs. "She isn't it, of course. And unfortunately, our goals misalign pretty harshly, don't they? I want to eat that person's soul. Your kind dislikes it when that happens, so I doubt you'll let me do that. What a shame."

The woman is unconscious. The Hollow places one of its long legs on her; it seems to be a spider, though it's still hard to make out its features properly in this darkness. The ends of its limbs seem awfully sharp, but he isn't harming her.

"What are you scared of? You're new here, aren't you? You've got no attachments to Berlin. You're like a tourist, you can do whatever you like and not take responsibility for it. Am I right? Trust me, I am; you can get away with anything. You're not in cahoots with the little girl, are you? Then you don't need to tell her that I'm here." It seems that Moeka isn't aware of this thing's existence, but he must recognize her as a threat. "...What a dilemma. I can't tell you where the magician is. You'll just kill that person and go home. Even though the magician's too strong for me, with the annoying magic and the lackeys, I can't let you have my prize."

This Hollow seems to be purposefully hiding the person's gender. He's clever enough to do that, a trait that's always worrying to see in these monsters.

He must mean Moeka. That girl seems to trust you. She's scared to enter this house, but if it's a baseless fear, as she claims it to be, you could probably convince her to come here. But... is that the right thing to do?

"You can have this woman, too. I don't care. I'll be finished when the magician's gone, anyway." The Hollow says, the sharp tip of one of its legs gently caressing the face of its entangled victim. "Isn't this a good deal, Shinigami? You can save a person and finish your mission. Two birds with one stone."

No where does it say they explicitly go out of their way to save humans, and most of the time, they are told not to in canon. Especially since souls are purified and sent to SS when they kill the hollow.

"A loose end?" You continue asking questions. The monster seems to be enjoying itself; maybe you'll earn some of its trust.

"Everybody has something in their life that they regret. And after they die, they're not in a position to do anything about it. But not in my case. I can do more about it that I ever could, Shinigami... or so I thought." With another chuckle, it stops talking.

"Is it the magician?"

It doesn't reply. Maybe it's scared of giving something away that might leave you to that person. "Do you agree to my terms or not, Shinigami?"

"Alright. I'll bring her here." You say. Your voice doesn't even quiver as you spout out the lie. The Hollow goes quiet, its leg leaving the unfortunate victim. Is he suspicious of the utmost calmness with which you spoke? He must not have been even taking your tone into consideration until now.

"I'm glad you've agreed. I've been waiting for too damn long already... This is the best option for me, apart from giving up altogether." He seems to be trying to convince himself more than anything else. "Bring the girl here. I'll take care of the rest." With another chuckle, the spider skitters away, concealing its shadowy silhouette behind a staircase. Its voice echoes throughout the building, making it hard to be sure of its location. "We can't sign a contract, but I'll trust you, my friend."

The woman's body, restrained by a tangle of webs, slowly slides along the bare, smooth floor, dragged away into the next room.

With your eyes having adjusted to your surroundings, you can tell that the interior is quite modern and stylish. You suspect that the mansion has been used until its owner was killed, but the webs aren't doing your judgment any favor.

You kick off the floor, darting through the nearest wall and out into the open grounds, dashing towards the place where you last saw Moeka. She's still faithfully sitting on that same rooftop, her feet dangling over the edge. She has a bored expression on her face and a small, opened plastic bottle of black liquid in her hand. When the redhead notices you, she waves, smiling.

"Ryouta-kun! Well? How was it?" As you approach, she offers you the fizzy drink she's been having, but you refuse it and explain the situation instead.

"T-there's a Hollow there?! But that can't be! The Denreishinki's not showing anything! What's the point of this thing?! What if that Hollow went outside and ate me? It's just luring me into a false sense of security! That's terrible, Ryouta-kun!" She seems to be addressing the complaints specifically to you, seeing as you're part of the Division responsible for the device's conception in the first place. You assure her that the Hollow can only stay off the radar by remaining in the webs at the mansion. That seems to calm the girl down.

Reading the discussion with him, they share different opinions on the world. The ghost enjoyed quite a bit of things, it just hated responsibility. This one is only into women and cares for nothing else. Nothing about responsibility either.

This guy's loose end is a lost love I believe. This is why he's after women. Something to do with legs though, not sure what's the connection to the legs of the loved one. If we figure it out maybe we'll know. How would a hollow learn about a human that knows kido? Maybe it's a coincidence and they were related?

There's also the spirit's amazing misfortune to consider.

Here's what I think:

The kido user is a female. It is the hollow's loose end and why he has this craving for women to fill his hole. Something to do with legs we didn't establish yet. The kido user is probably the cause of the spirit's misfortune in relation to his work place. The spirit was just one victim out of many, all related to where they worked.

The kido user's connection are therefor this hollow, and the business that was targeted.

Stretching here but I think the hollow might be a top brass and one of the old guys the spirit was talking about. The hollow was a pervy rich CEO. This mansion may have been his, which is why he's comfortable and drawn to it. The woman who owned it that he killed first may have been his wife? Hollows usually target family first of course.

The magician keeps company. Urahara said she might just be a fullbringer who has kido-like abilities. Maybe they're fullbringers too. Why else would a hollow care about other humans? They're threats. Maybe she targeted his business for some reason.. a loose end. He cared for her? Craved her? Doesn't quite add up yet.

Or maybe he did fall under the radar somehow and attacked the business himself? Maybe he had webs across the city and not just in the mansion. He did say he tried to target her after all. That means leaving a mess of some kind.

There are quite a few reasons to leave the Hollow alone for now. You'll have to take care of him in due time, but for now, he might at least have his uses. And there's that woman there... Blowing up the mansion with a fiery explosive spell is probably a good way to turn the terrain against the Hollow, but the human would die for sure.

"Oh yeah, the human..." Moeka ruefully scratches the back of her head. "It's not that we couldn't ask for permission to do it from the higher ups - they'd probably give it, too - but... I get it, Ryouta-kun. You're a big softy on the inside! There's nothing cuter than that in boys. Well, not that I'm too happy about killing humans, either... I guess."

Well, even other than the hostage, there are still other reasons to letting him live.

From what you've seen of her so far, you don't think it implausible that she has been too busy slacking off to properly do her job some of the times. But what she's trying to defend herself with is true, too, though you think you can explain that - the Hollow simply made itself a new, temporary domain to hide in as it was carrying a victim, perhaps even several times over a single trip, and that threw Moeka off. But she sounds more like she simply latched on to to the idea to justify herself; there were probably cases of Hollows 'slipping away' on dates that weren't related to the crimes, and that's why she didn't want to mention the bizarre 'blinking' Hollow in the first place. Does she even pay attention to her Denreishinki?

"I-I'm sorry, Ryouta-kun, I really am! No Hollow's going to slip past me ever again! I'm going to work way harder from now on, I swear!" Her fists clenched and raised over her chest in a determined manner, the girl makes a teary-eyed appeal.

You think you said the right things. Things that other, normal people would have said.

Moeka nods fervently a few times. "I won't! I promise! Thank you, Ryouta-kun!"

After a relieved sigh, she seems to calm down. "Well, I'll lead you to those houses! We can't stop investigating now, and I want to do everything I can to help you!"

With her spirit reinvigorated, the redhead leaps away. You jump after her.

There's still a lot left to investigate. This mission might take some time.
