You meet with Shikamaru the next morning, and prepare to begin your training for the day. He approaches you, as stoic as ever, walking from the morning fog. He looks down with those vast, all seeing eyes of his and studies you for a brief moment. He speaks in a calm, quiet tone. Almost a little bored. "You've been doing well. Very well. Just about as well as I expected. Maybe better."

You smile warmly. "Thanks! It's been really hard work, but since it's all a part of the lessons it's worth it."

Shikamaru chuckles for a few seconds. "It's that simple, huh? Amazing."

Scratching your chin, you look at him in confusion. "Whaddya mean?"

He turns, and starts to walk away from you. "You have a heck of a will, Takeshi. There were other Genin in the exam, fighting for much more at stake, which much more potential to back them. But your will pushed right past all the deep, dark, and scary aspirations that the other Genin have."

He stops. "When I was your age and I took the exam, not even I can say that I was as chill as you are. The type of competition I had to deal with was bull, really. Gaara of the Desert, Sasuke Uchiha, and who'd a thunk /Naruto/ to be the big showstopper in the end. Definitely not me."

He looks back as he draws a kunai from his weapon's pouch and spins it around his finger. "But I'm rambling. Let's get down to brass tacks. What shinobi art would you like to be instructed in today, my young pupil?"

He says the last bit with a sarcastic grin. You get the sense that he's a tad bit too young to be pretending to be the wise old master, though you have no doubts in his actual wisdom. All this time he's had the demeanor of an old man, in fact.

Shikamaru and you begin with meditation and control exercises to warm up, but when the training begins, he asks you to place your palm on his head as he takes a seat. You form the handseals for the jutsu and do so, and start to feel yourself pushing up against Shikamaru's mind. It's as if a steel wall was restricting you from entering, every piece of architecture perfectly countering any possible path you could take inside.

Your eyes are shut, and beads of sweat form on your brow as you concentrate through the jutsu. It's like Shikamaru said, the only way in is to try and brute force it. You grit your teeth and push forward with all of your mental might, but Shikamaru doesn't budge an inch. You push against the impossible wall with all of your might for what feels like an hour, until you open your eyes and collapse, sweat drenched.

Shikamaru grins. "Rest. It's my turn when you get up."

You groan.

After a half an hour, you sit back up, cross legged. Shikamaru sits up from meditating and places his hand on your head, and you start to envision a steel wall to mimic Shikamaru's. You run over defending every angle and strengthening the steel as well as you can.

"Ready?"

"Yeah, go."

The sudden force is colossal, infinitely more than you were expecting. The meager improvised defense that you had in place was shattered in an instant, and Shikamaru removes his hand. He allows you to collect yourself over the next fifteen minutes, and you begin to preform the jutsu on him again.

This cycle continues for five days. You've mastered the Jutsu, though you never once managed to break past Shikamaru. It was incredibly difficult to continually piece your mind back together, but the meditation and strengthening exercises have tempered your wall.

The next day, your brother teaches you the finishing touches of the Hydro Sword Jutsu. This technique will create a sword of highly pressurized water, making a deadly cutting blade. Several days ago you'd said that the Genjutsu training had been the most difficult experience yet in your time with Shikamaru. You've never been so wrong before.

He takes you out into the remote mountains for an entire week, and you immerse yourself in nature to draw power.

You sprint across a meadow as the setting sun in the distance casts a long shadow over the grass, and as you stomp past Shikamaru, you turn on heel, barefoot, and sprint across the way again. The blood in your head is pounding, your chest pained and breathless, but you lumber on with slow determination each step. Your feet are bloodied and raw, blisters and calluses all over. Involuntarily, you find yourself gasping in pain with every step, wincing in the face.

Even still, you persist across the meadow. The setting sun beating down on your head threatens to crush you into the soft dirt of the meadow, burying you forever to never return.

Unnacceptable. You lumber on, crying out in not only pain, but determination. Your head lulls side to side with each step, the boulder on your back pressing sharply into your skin. Scrapes of blood leak slowly, and it digs into your fingers, threatening to slip.

For a moment, you push ahead. You gasp violently for breaths of air as your head pokes up, taking water on occasion as your body starts to fail you. The current pushes back again despite your fervent struggle, and when your head surfaces from the water, you scream in rage.

Like an animal, you've tapped into that most base part of you. The lesson of survival taught to you by the Forest of Death turns your stroke into a furious flail, and though you're slowly being pushed back, with every moment you never stop trying.

Shikamaru pulls you from the water, and exhaustion washes over you as you gently twist in the air.

You're climbing up a gigantic rock face, barefooted and shirtless. It's high noon, and the sound of a screeching eagle in the distance pierces your ears and distracts you for just a moment as you were reaching. The break in your concentration makes you slip, and you begin to fall. You latch on with a single arm, pain screaming as it threatens to pull itself free from it's socket. Swinging up with desperation, you use your momentum to get another foothold and reach even higher. You push up with your feet, rocks digging into your toes and opening up blisters. Tears fall from your face, brought on by the stinging pain of sweat in your eyes. The blue sky above you is distant and dreamy, another world away. The ground below beckoning you to embrace it fully.

The absolute pain that encompasses your body urges you to fall, the act of letting your fingers slip and forgetting this life of struggle, for just a moment, looks tempting.

But the pain digging into your feet keeps you grounded. The temptation of falling, of giving up or stopping, is inconceivable.

The pain of this moment is life pushing back against you.

Slowly, shaking, you reach up and grasp the dusty stone, and pull yourself higher, until you reach the top.

Awaiting you, on top of the plateau, is Shikamaru. He steps over, and helps you forward. "I think you're ready to learn this specific technique, known as the Leaf Gale. It was taught to me by a friend, and as more of a Ninjutsu based fighter I find it very useful for disorienting my opponent for a quick escape or counterattack. It's simply a sweep with your leg, but learning to properly kick with enough force to create a gale of wind is when you know you've mastered it.

He teaches you the jutsu over the next couple of days, and you rest on the eighth day to let your body recover.

Since people seem divided between two things I'll break down the two choices evenly, so people know what they're getting.

Would mean you get the ability to seal weapons. So you can say, seal pre-poisoned weapons on a wristband for a surprise attack. With the poison you have, you can imagine how this could be useful in the tourney and in the future. You also have two days left over for a stat boost.

>B. Medical

You have to invest in two training sessions, totaling 4 days, to learn Chakra scalpel. Your chakra control will go up ++ from two sessions, but you won't get to train a physical stat.

However, that's a powerful melee weapon. Keep in mind it drains chakra at a moderate pace, and you have to reform the handseals each time you cancel it to preform another jutsu.

The two Genin start on their way down to the arena as their names are called. Boruto walks with his hands behind his head, relaxed as ever with a confident smile on his face. He seems sure that this won't take long at all. Taiki, long dreads slowly swaying, seems almost bored as he marches down steps. Maybe he has no idea that Boruto is the Hokage's son.

Hanto laughs, considering the thought. "Maybe he just doesn't care that Boruto is the Hokage's son. What do you make of this guy, Ai?"

The pale little girl stares at the large Cloud Genin from the balcony. "I've seen him in combat once. He seemed to rely on his teammate Yosuke for support, though his physical strength is great. He seems to specialize in Taijutsu, and uses a variety of specialized tools to supplement it."

Hanto smiles down at her, although she can't see it. So damn observant. Already got his number from spotting him once. "Interesting. I wonder if he'll be able to entertain the prodigal son."

Boruto grins as they face each other off, placing his hands confidently at his side. Taiki draws his huge, two handed chrome hammer. It seems to have some sort of motor mechanism in the head of it, and it looks really damn heavy. Hanto notes that the Genin also has several pouches on his sides, probably full of equipment like Ai had mentioned.

There's an explosion, and in an instant, Boruto has appeared in front of Taiki. He takes a traditional Hyuuga combat stance, despite his lack of Byakugan. Gentle fists fly forward, rapidly striking up and down Taiki's body. The huge Genin swats down with his hammer, forcing Boruto to take a leap back.

Taiki grabs his hammer with both hands, and twists the handle, opening a small compartment with a little red button inside. He presses it with his thumb, and the motor in the hammerhead roars to life and spouts fire, spurting it behind it like a high powered jet engine. There's a painfully sharp whining noise as the engine comes to full blast, and Taiki struggles with his great strength to hold it in place. He places it near his side and tilts it slightly to the ground, blasting forward like a human rocket once he jumps forward with his feet.
He spins in the air using the jet of his hammer, and threatens to destroy Boruto. The Leaf Genin leaps over the attack, forming the handsigns for Shadow Clone Jutsu as he's in the air. By the time he's landed, there's an additional four of him. They all rush towards Taiki as he crashes against the wall and rebounds, completely unharmed. The huge Genin swings downward as he approaches, smashing a large crater into the center of the arena and forcing the group of Borutos to leap into the air.
