In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

The men of the Chapter have discovered genestealer infestation on the world of San Larion in the perifery of Sector Deus. Genestealer, foulest of the aliens, inflicted painful losses on the Chapter, but the victory was ours and the Magus of the Cult lies dead... Enemy ambush failed and now's the time to strike at the heart of infestation.

Brethorius together with your other officers stand around the table at the Oratorium on Aspera Dominus.
>So, our rescue efforts are proceeding as planned. Brother Ation will be crippled, but he was retrieved alive. Our apothecaries are tending to him now, they will make him fight again. However we need to decide how to proceed. Are we planning to hit the headquarters of the cult in the city directly? Or will we want to proceed slowly and take over key strategic points first?
>>
>>44194851
hit the HQ first. A genestealer cult is likey to be controlled centrally and weakened enourmously when decapitated
>>
>>44194851
We destroyed many of their forces during their ambush. They're on the back foot so we should finish them off as soon as possible before they can rebuild any strength.

Go for the HQ.
How's our sewer flooding plan coming along? Given us all the potential exits yet?
We should seal off all the ones except what we use to move in.
>>
>>44194851
We don't know the extent of the infestation. Going all-in on HQ might over extend us. Better to take strategic points.

Brethorius would be best to lead since Gatebreaker gives him that tactics bonus to assaulting strongholds.

Have Brethorius lead in terminators. 1st company and 5th company form rest of forces. I want deathwatch veterans with each group, sharing expertise on dealing with genestealers.
Lead with flamers.

I assume we found all their potential exits with the gas pumping so they shouldn't be able to escape.

And what did the 6 brothers we recovered from the church have to say about Kronos and the other 44 still missing? And where they infected?
>>
>>44194961
Advance on ground level. While they might have some time to prepare, we can take more with us.
Tactics -> have scouts on the lookout for escape tunnels etc.
We need to go into the hq in style->
ready the land raider
Our brothers should follow in Rhinos and flame out of the hatches to minimize our causalities.

Our primary goals are twofold
a) find the patriach and kill him
b) destroy any communication infrastructure so they cannot setup a defense

Can we be on the lookout with magics?

It's still too early to tell. If you wish, you could wait for a day and then strike with more information. Currently you think that you have located around half of the exit points... This doesn't give you an attack bonus.

The assault goes (unexpectedly) just as planned. Enemy cultists and hybrids swarm around your armoured taskforce, failing to do any real damage. Land Raider at the front belches out rays of melta shots, topling whole buildings on top of the enemy formations. 5th Company advances a safe distance away, blasting at the remnants of the enemy force. No serious resistance can be noticed until you reach the entrance to an old abandoned water processing plant, where fanatical enemy suicidal hybrids throw themselves at your force.

Will you concentrate on taking them out before they get close and proceed very slowly or shall you try to rush through the dangerous area, leaving them behind for your infantry to mop up?

Concentrated fire manages to take out the bulk of the rushing formation, but the fact that your machines stopped to take aim gave the chance the enemy was looking for. One after another half a dozen manhole hatches pop open and dozens of suicidal hybrids scream and charge wildly on all fours towards your vehicles. Their primitive explosives aren't sophisticated, definitely not enough to do serious damage mighty Brutix, your Land Raider, but they are destructive enough to disable it's tracks and take out one of the turrets. Other cultists use the chance to spill black paint onto the scanner ports, blinding the crew. Destros, Techmarine commanding Brutix, curses on all vox channels. Similar fate happens to two Rhinos that were covering Brutix's flanks, they are now stranded in the middle of the street.
>Milord, we are trapped, what shall we do?

Have thunderhawks suppress the enemy forces with frag bombs and ordnance. Their ammo should last long enough for infantry to dismount, form a defensive cordon for field repairs to be conducted.
As for the rhinos they can repair immobilisation themselves easily with a little time, one of the rhino's greatest strengths.
If they can't for some reason, tow them back out of the line of fire whilst the enemy is suppressed.

And get the fortress of vengeance up here! Lay a few thousands tonnes of explosive on the hybrids.

Once brutix is moving again, keep pushing forwards.

Your visions are clear and easy to read this time. You can feel him, the Patriarch, shifting uneasily in his self-made palace deep underneath the water processing plant. You know that he has grown too fat and too bold to run, he is waiting for your men to come and fight him... But you also know that he has a trick up his sleeve. There's a particularly strong Purestrain prowling somewhere in the tunnels between you and the Patriarch. Also, Patriarch already issued a psychic call to all of the cultists around the planet they are flocking to this location now. Some of them will be here in hours, others will take weeks to arrive, but he knows that the fight will win him enough time to send out some of his purestrains to hide and spread the infection... You feel that his lair is 60 meters below the ground level.

>>44196617
Your tactic works wonders. Thunderhawk runs shred about a hundred hybrids that were brave or stupid enough to stay in the open and then your men disembark to surround the machines while Destros scrambles to perform repairs and to see how long will it take him to complete them.

>>44196997
>>44196980
The fighting is extremely fierce around the entrance to the Patriarch's lair. Brethorius already planned the assault in detail, so the enemy resistance is countered by the volleys from the Brutix's second turret and Rhinos, while the task force of Terminators and other marines proceeds on foot through the destroyed gates. Tanks cannot go further - the tunnels here go straight downwards, towards the Patriarch. Dead enemies litter the floor, but none of your brothers is even wounded so far.

How will you proceed through the tunnels?
a) quickly, use speed to our advantage
b) carefully
d) split up so that if someone encounter enemies, other parties would be quick to kill the Patriarch and end this

How will you counter the Primus Purestrain if you'll encounter him?
a) all troops concentrate fire
b) disperse and evade
c) let the Terminators deal with him, while the rest rushes towards Patriarch
d) Let Brethorius engage him in close combat, he is our finest Champion
>>
>>44197277
>How will you proceed through the tunnels?

They have already summoned reinforcements. We must move quickly or get bogged down.

so that they may not escape us. Send some in as second wave (infantry on foot behind us, so we are not cut off when going back)

Brethorius was so sure of his success that the dying lurch of the Alpha Genestealer caught him completely offguard. It's razor claws hit the Terminator armour right at the seam, penetrating deep, through layers of ceramite, adamantite, muscle, bone and black carapace. Inhuman strength of the xeno beast pulled back and exploded back out of his chest cavity, ripping out a piece of ribcage and a few organs with it, badly damaging secondary heart. Brethorius, a well built man, lost about 20 kilos of flesh with that single blow, his armour now lies opened like a discarded tin can... However this that would have killed a lesser man doesn't end Brethorius. His extreme combination of willpower, resilience and pure stubbornness carries him through.

You may roll a d10 to determine what happens:
1. He ignores the wounds completely and continues fighting
2-5. He can still fight, but with horrible penalties - his WS will be divided by 2.
6-8. He falls down and is dragged to the side by other brothers, who gladly continue to fight and die in his stead to safe his life.
9. Brethorius falls down and never gets back up. He will survive, but will never be the same again...
10. This hero is mortally wounded, but he will hold on for long enough to be interred in Dreadnought Sarcophagus.

Roll d10 please.
Please remember that no matter what the result, Brethorius will need medical assistance as soon as possible, after an hour he'll need to roll his TH not to die.

Brother Joraya sprinted into the melee, grabbed Brethorius and dragged him out from underneath Alpha's claws, taking the hits that would have otherwise killed Brethorius. One of the final hits was straight through the back of the power armour, penetrating the armour, his spine and throat. Fortunately, this distraction was enough so that other brothers could open concentrated fire upon the beast, dealing d10 damage in total.

It has 10 Wounds left, please roll.

My bad! Typo. Check other posts, it's only this one.

Well how far are we from the entrance? Since this is our first major encounter inside I though the entrance would be in-sight.

If not, send him back with a squad of sternguards. Rolling for them.

Given its wounds and everything shouldn't it be slower and leave a trail of genestealer blood or other remnants behind.
Also in its current state I reckon its ability to hide the tracks from its limbs is kind of damaged?

Also did brethorius' storm shield not provide him protection? One of the best kinds of personal force field.

Aproximate combat power conversion rates (close quarters, how many you'd normally lose to kill 1)
1-2 cultists = 1 guardsman
1 hybrid = 5-10 guardsmen
10 hybrids = 1 space marine
1 Purestrain = 3 space marines / 1 Terminator
1 Alpha = 10+ space marines / 3+ Terminators
+++
Genestealers are fucking scary and their Alpha is the scariest of them all, that's all I have to say. Brethorius is awesome, that's why he managed to survive, but he's still just a space marine. Also, it doesn't get any penalties for now due to the adrenaline rush & it has more than two legs, so it's totally fine with running around.
>>44199168
Brethorius had x3 the armour of the genestealer, which represented this.

Your men, led by Destros, corner it a few rooms away from the place where Alpha fought with Brethorius.
>Time to die, you ugly son of a bitch! Listen, brothers, no bolters! Let him fry...

With Brethorius out of action Captain Quintor should take command.
Have the terminators take point, laying down judicious amounts of flame. Follow up sweeps with more flame, lots of bolts.
Quintor and his command squad should be behind the terminators, picking supporting terminators against any purestrains that try to reach close combat range.

Once the patriarch is reached, light him up with the assault cannons, cyclone missiles, grenades, and just damn everything.

Quintor's Leadership: 64 = minor success
Partialy Prepared Defence: 30 = 1 degree of failure
+++
Somewhere along the way up the chain of command someone made a mistake.
>Brethorius is dead? I cannot believe it! This cannot be, he's too stubborn to die!
Quintor, in rage, ordered his troops to assemble immediately and charged with the Terminators into the final cave himself. The Patriarch tried to use his psychic might to force the space marines to submit to its will, but they were too many and their will, fueled by the anger at Brethorius' death, too strong. henchmen, hybrids and the last few purestrains died schreeching under the hail of bolts. The Patriarch himself was covered by a portable force shield, probably gifted to him by his followers, but even this didn't save him. Quintor ordered all of the Terminators to launch their Cyclone missiles at once, combined strength of the attack broke through the shield and ripped bloated monstrosity to bits...

VICTORY!
+++
Brethorius is safely evacuated to Klementhos, he will live and his scars will heal, but it will take another d3 years for him to return to active service at full capacity.

It seems that the Genestealer cult was hoarding the money and other forms of wealth in the cave to use as means for their eventual takeover of the planet... The total worth of the treasure is around 50+d20 Wealth.

Patriarch's death sent terrible psychic feedback which forced genestealers across the planet into deep catatonic state for a few days. This was enough for the uninfected humans to regain momentum and slay most of them, the rest went into hiding after regaining their consciousness, but those are actively hunted and very few. Nonetheless, San Larion's population is now under the worst suspicion...

Final action:

FIND KRONOS AND HIS MARINES DANG FLABBIT!
>>
>>44199893
Yeah and how are the 6 catatonic marines we saved?
>>
>>44199754
a) Gather the remaining pieces of genestealer and hand them to the INQ
b) File a report for INQ (luckily as Quintor was in charge, he does the typewriting)
c) give a speech that thanks all for their support, announce that Mr.B is wounded and give Quintor an Mr.B a mark of recorgnition
d) Repair the tanks and install some wipers for the sensor array
e)Leave the rest to the Inq but give the Inquisitor, our number should he need help
f) see what equipment from the genestealers is salvageable for the Varda-PDF
g)use the knowledge of our first fight against genestealer to develop basic strategies against this and similar foes, include that in the teachings

....Cant think of anything else
Good fight, good night

>Please state your final action and let's end the session here for today.
Provide assistance in cleaning xenos filth until the Inquisitor arrives. Then turn over mop-up operations to him/her with our full report. Collect whatever biological specimens we think will help Klementhos. Have the chapter artificers/techmarines/serfs add some new designs to Brethorius' personal heraldry showing him smiting the Purestrain in combat.

perhaps we can spend 6 or so wealth opening up soup kitchens to help public relations.

Spend 5-10 wealth to give Brethorius the very best Augmetics. Have an artist give it a beautiful diorama of him fucking up the Primaris Purestrain.

Kronos has managed to survive! He lead the assault on Imperial palace, but was ambushed, so were many of other marines.

Out of 44 (apart from 6 that you saved) only 13 survived, 7 of them under Kronos' command. However the ordeal wasn't easy - he had to hide in the sewers, jungle and the islands for weeks, constantly fighting off enemies with no support or reinforcements... Men say that Kronos came out of this cleansing even stranger than he usually was.
+++
Don Siempre suprisingly managed to survive the rebellion as genestealers were planning on keeping him uninfected for as long as possible to keep as a figurehead incase any visiting Imperials would want to check his blood or have any other suspicions. When everything started, his few loyal uninfected soldiers hid him until everything ended. On the other hand his power base is significantly weakened... You have strong suspicion that there will be a civil war on the planet as soon as your armoured feet leave it's dirt.
>>44199831
Yes, the overall action was intense enough to warrant that.
>>44199924
The 6 marines that you saved were (mostly) unsuccessfully infected by the Genestealers. Please roll 6d100, only 95+ detects an active infection.
