Making lunch and tea for everyone was nice, almost homey feeling, except for the people who aren't there being, well, not there. Yui-chan is regaling Akari with the tale of Kiku-chan's ceremony, while Kiki-hime is tending to your wounded wife. Your eyes meet hers and she miles at you, which prompts a stupid grin from you, despite all efforts. Ah heaven with it, she earned all the smiles. Yuuhi-chan is dozing off holding her tea, after you headed off some questions by feeding her. Kiku-chan is placing bundles of sticks with wood shavings tied to them around the temple, in strange places that make no sense to you, but it seems to be a Koshinto thing, rather than a Shinto thing in this case, because it is Inau-kun who is making the sticks, which aren't tamagushi, but something else. Nusa? Yes, that feels right.

Everyone is here, which means you could take the opportunity to do a few things. Or nothing. Or something minor. You're not sure. You've never really had 'down-time' per se. Not since you were a very small child.

You're not interested in doing anything too strenuous today. You've had a couple of fairly strong shocks to the psyche today already, and really, the only reason you're contemplating doing anything other than being with your family is because you've been sitting most of the day, quite literally. The gardens looked promising, but what you would really like to do is to join the Ama divers. Their jobs aren't really necessary as they once were, except as ceremonial and displays of prowess, but you would like to join them. Not just because you can get something you need done done, but because it might just be fun.

Besides, Kiku-chan said she was bringing a blessing of Ryujin-Owatatsumi to the island, so it would be impolite to make a liar out of her, right?

You rise and run your hand through Yuuhi-chan's soft hair, tracing her ear as you walk past to kneel next to Yui-chan and Akari-chan, across from Kiki-hime. “I'm going to go outside for a short while. Yuuhi-chan and Yui-niji-chan can accompany Kiki-hime if she needs to go anywhere, as long as they call on me if anything happens. Kiku-chan and Inau-kun watch over Akari-niji-chan.” The chorus of 'hai' and silent nods is enough. You smile and kiss your Niji-chans, then offer your hand to Kiki-hime and have her walk you to the temple proper, hip-to-hip.

“Stay with your shinobi, kasan. I don't want to have to wreck the island trying to rescue you.” She giggles, and you wrap your fingers in hers, turning to face her as she smiles and turns to face you. Kiki-hime takes your other hand and links her little-finger with yours, and you work hard not to control your blush, wondering at how something so simple could become so intimate, so quickly. You kiss her slowly and deeply, your heart matching hers beat for beat in seconds, and not entirely slow either. Her eyes are sparkling as you slowly break the kiss, her smile faintly wicked and you agree, it's been too long, and too busy.

However, you both agree this is not the place for it. She kisses your cheek once more, quickly, and then makes her way back to your niji. Rainbows, or subordinates. Same thing, really.

Inau-kun looks up from the willow wands that she is carefully shaving white curls from with her ogata, and sets the weapon aside. “Will you be back soon?” she asks calmly, the ritual and the temple seeming to have the same mesmerizing, peaceful effect it has on all your kind – spirit children in general that is. You start to nod and then catch yourself. “Mostly going to look at the garden, but I may go diving. I'm not sure if they'll allow it. Also, I know you eat....do you get hungry, or am I just being weird?”

I like to keep in the habit because I'm not usually very balanced.” She means your Chi and Shen energies being balanced, you suspect. Your Jing is so whacked out it's beyond measure anyways.

“I was kind of wondering. Thank you, Inau-kun.” You kiss her cheek, and she blushes, looking down, and very obviously liking it. Then it's the last hurdle, and you walk over to Kiku-chan, who is kneeling before the main altar, eyes closed and looking like a delicate doll, her thin red braids floating faintly.

You sit next to her and clap your hands twice, softly, and feel the attention of the kami upon you almost immediately. Not surprising, given the ritual Kiku-chan performed earlier, with the help if Inau, Yui and Kiki. You offer more prayers, for the living, the dead, and the kami who have helped you; you also pray for the success of the divers, and that their lives will not be impacted too harshly by what you will do. When you have finished, you clap your hands twice more, and then lower them to your thighs, turning your head slightly to watch your priestess.

Your bitsy dragon is sitting serenely, counting off prayers on a set of very old looking, cracked and natural looking amber beads on a ling red braided cord almost the same color as her hair. For that matter, it might ~be~ made from her hair. At least it wouldn't surprise you, though that's not exactly a pure sort of thing to do in your estimation. Still, Koshinto is older and stranger than Shinto is, so you wouldn't be too terribly surprised.

Matagama Kiku is beautiful, delicate, and seems fragile, though you know that isn't true at all. She's about as delicate as an oni, with a worse vocabulary and a temper to match any of them. Oddly you have never really felt as though there is anything illicit about your love for her, or that there is any question of your preferences; it isn't just her appearance, but her attitude, that makes it very clear that there is nothing strange in your love. Then again, fire is a thing of youthfulness anyways, and so it is entirely natural that she be young looking.

Her tail twitches ever so slightly and you reach over and run your fingers through the thin, incredibly fine fur of her tail, tracing the soft metallic leaf-like flat of her tail with your claws. “I'm going to be going for a walk, Kiku-chan; mostly the gardens and maybe see if they'll let me go diving with them, the Ama.” Kiku-chan is sitting bolt upright, her hands twitching into claws as she shivers violently. Leaning closer, you slide your fingers up from the warm vanes of her tail-tip to the soft fur, sliding your fingertips slowly up the line of fur. “I told everyone to stay put, more or less, but if Kiki-hime goes anywhere, she's Yuuhi-chan and Yui-niji-chan's issue.”

Kiku is having issues of her own, as both hands are clamped over her mouth and she's making tiny squeaking noises as your fingers slide slowly up her tail to the edge of her outfit. Leaning in, you ask softly, “I take it you're feeling all right, and aren't going to need my attentions for a little while longer? No issues with your tummy from our little girl?””

Her huge golden eyes snap over to you as you slowly run one finger up further into the soft fir where it meshes with the delicate skin of her lower back. You trace the crease of her tail up and around, and her hair positively explodes in a silent rush of flame as she struggles not to make any noise other than the tiny squeaks no one has noticed yet. You slowly slide your finger back down the underside of her tail and her eyes roll back into her head as you mention casually, “I can't wait to get you back to our temple, my priestess.” Then she collapses into your arms as you hug her tight, quaking like you shattered her totally, which you almost did.

As Kiku-chan pants heavily, you hug your priestess tight, and stroke her hair. She remains limp in your arms, only her tail-tip twitching as you warm yourself by her cuteness and terribly submissive nature. “I love you too, Kiku-miko-chan.”

Her arms slide up around your neck slowly, shaking like she has palsy, and she mutters under her breath, “....bakayero hentai ryu.” You hold her a moment longer and finally let her stand up, which she does a little shakily. “Everything will be fine here,” she mutters. “My master is going to have words with you, baka dragon.”

“Well I certainly hope so, Kiku-chan, because I've needed it a while now. Also, there's that whole lava thing she mentioned.” She blinks at you and then narrows her eyes, her tiny hands clenching into fists.

You lean forward and whisper softly, your eyes narrowing just as much. She bristles, but your slow, soft words bring her up short. “I can just imagine what she's going to have to say to me, after these weeks of taking care of her Most Precious Person, how she's going to sit me down and discuss exactly what we've been doing, you and I....” Her eyes widen and her sleeve comes up to cover her mouth. “She's going to let me have it all right, sit me down in a chair and give me a very....stern....talking to. Right in front of you.” Her eyes aren't just wide, they;re dinner plate sized and her pupils are huge.

You lean close and whisper in your most chilling voice. “I. Cant. Wait.” Then you have to catch her again because she's gone all wobbly. “Heaven, you need to rest some more, you're falling all over yourself. Worse than Yuuhi-chan, totally.”

“...huh?”

You and three other voices speak simultaneously.

“GO BACK TO SLEEP, YUUHI-CHAN.”

Kiku-chan sighs and you kiss her softly on the lips. “Go and do your duties, my priestess. There will be time enough for us later.” She nods, and rather reluctantly disentangles herself from you. Rising, you slip away into the bright sunlight of the day, and the surprisingly crowded steps to the temple. It's still closed, and you're still wearing your semi-miko outfit, so you only get a few curious glances as of yet, and only from humans. There are a very few spirit-children here, but they're clearly traveling with humans; oni- and dragon-children, naturally, since they're the most common of all (which is somewhat ironic given how many youkai there are).

You slip into the crowd easily, and don't garner too much attention. Looks like people are headed towards one of the display rooms, most likely a lecture or inside show. Still too early for the diving show; they tide is still going out, meaning it would not just be dangerous, but also be deeper dives. Well, dangerous for the humans.

“Oh, excuse me!” The young woman who nearly backed into you turns around rapidly, and blinks at you, her jaw dropping quite suddenly. You blink mildly at her – she wasn't in any danger of tripping you or tripping over you, of course. A slow smile spreads across your face as she continues to stare at you, and you lower your eyes slowly.

“Please excuse my clumsy self, miss,” you speak softly, maintaining your miko-like attitude from earlier today. She shuts her mouth and her cheeks turn deep red. It's not surprising, really, but you didn't have to see her green hair, crimson, pupil-less eyes, and the jaundiced color of her skin to realize why she's so awestruck by you. Most youkai-born who were raised in human families have quite a shock when they meet a dragon child.

She quickly bows several times, apologizing profusely, her embarrassment clear through body language, speech, and mannerism. Poor thing. Doesn't help she's probably self conscious as all heaven with those scars along the left side of her face.

You catch her shoulder lightly with two fingertips to prevent her from bowing for the eighth time, and shake your head. “Nothing to concern yourself over, I assure you, oujo-san. Why are you apologizing to me? I am a stranger here, just visiting from afar, assisting the priestess with the rites.” She stands up, her hands clasped in front of her, fingers tangled together intricately and nervously. With her eyes carefully avoiding your face, and presenting her good side, it becomes rather obvious to you that it's less embarrassment about the scars than it is sparing you the sight of them. “Really, there is nothing to concern yourself with.”

“Ah....still, I do apologize....uh, onee-sama, for getting in your way.” Her hesitation was simply for a lack of anything to call you, though she's actually about the same age as you were before you went through hell. “Please excuse this clumsy turtle.”

“Well, you would be excused if you had actually caused any problems, oujo-san. Really, there wasn't anything. If it makes you feel better, I'll accept the entirely of the blame if there was anything to accept the blame for, but I'm afraid there isn't anything!” You bow. “I'm Aoi.” that earn you a smile, and she chances a glance at your eyes and horns. You smile more brightly, a genuine smile. “It's not very creative, but that's what happens when you grow up among crazy shrine ladies and old men who study their navels too long.” Which is a generalization, but technically correct in the fundamental sense.

With a warm smile you spread your hands apologetically. “That wasn't part of my duties today; I am planning on being the one they are throwing into the water later. Well, maybe not throwing, I don't think I annoyed guji-sama that much today....” Toshida-san relaxes further with the gentle joking about the head priestess throwing you in the ocean. “So, I was on my way to speak to the head of the Ama divers, assuming I can find her. Besides, guji-sama will probably draft me for a different ceremony, given my nature as a Water dragonette.”

She nods agreeably. “May I ask....can you swim in the ocean?” Ah, she thinks you're a river dragonette. Who can swim in the ocean, but they can't breathe that kind of water easily.

“Yes, I can. At least, this ocean. I haven't been to Hokkaido or to the West coast, but I think I can probably breathe that water as well. As long as it isn't polluted anyways.” He tilt your head and she can't help but smile at the quizzical expression. “If I may ask....Silver Coin? Does it have to do with wells?”

You wonder how long she's actually been here, and if she really is just an Ama diver with a monastic background. Because it's an odd coincidence to meet a kappa-child shortly before seeking out an actual kappa....and while in anyone else it could be labeled as paranoia, in your case, it's just a fact: There are LOTS of people out to get you.
