Become The Vampire Quest 12

You head upstairs slowly and carefully. For one, you don't actually know the layout of the next floor, and for two, if it's all one big bedroom up there you don't want to just burst in. What you find instead is that the stairs lead up to a large landing area, almost like a common room, with two doors, one with Patrick's name carved on it, and another with Jennifer's name on a little gold plate. Etched onto the plate, likely with a claw, is a little heart. You have to wonder precisely what state their marriage is in that they sleep in different rooms. You knock on Jennifer's door firmly, and Marie opens it, looking a bit surprised.

“Oliver? What are you doing here?”

You smile at her.

“Jennifer told me to come find her when I had time to talk. Well, I've got time. The party is starting soon, I figured this would be a good opportunity to speak with her.”

Marie glances nervously over her shoulder.

“I'm not sure that's such a good idea right now. Maybe later? She's a little busy.”

You can hear Jennifer speaking in a low tone to someone, before raising her voice.

“Let him in, Marie.”

Marie hesitates, before opening the door and letting you in. Jennifer is exactly as you expected her to be, sitting on a chair at the foot of her bed that's almost a throne, forcing others to kneel before her. It's like that trick where you microwave water and it goes above the boiling point. One single wrong move and she'll go off all at once. Fortunately you already know how to approach the situation.

“Good evening, Jennifer. I hope I'm not intruding. You told me to come when I had the time, and now I do.”

Jennifer regards you coolly for a moment, doing her best to keep whatever it is that's eating away at her in check. You can't tell if it's barely-restrained rage, lust or something else altogether. She turns to the other woman, the one you don't recognize, and nods.

“Marie will see you out. I believe our business is complete at this point.”
>>
The woman nods slowly, rising to her feet and bowing low before leaving without a word. Marie follows her out, glancing back at Jennifer before turning to leave. Jennifer clears her throat.

“Lock the door on your way out. I have matters to discuss with this boy.”

Marie looks at you, then at Jennifer, and locks the door before closing it, leaving you and Jennifer alone. You're either about to die or become her confidante about something.

“Now then, Oliver. To business.”

You nod and move towards her, standing near her, a little closer than the woman had been kneeling.

“To business. I think the first order of business should be Sammy, don't you? A point of mutual interest.”

Jennifer's eyes widen ever so slightly at your boldness, but she doesn't say anything. She adjusts her hands, switching so that the other is on top.

“I have evidence of Mark's true nature, how he really sees Sammy. The perfect ammunition against the Collins clan in terms of how one of their members is viewing the agreement you have. But it's also perfect evidence for why you shouldn't give Sammy to Mark. I have a claim on her that I'm looking to make use of. So, business? Because you put on a front like you're a cold-hearted and careless mother when it comes to her, but the wife of the pack leader wouldn't be as simple or as foolish as that.”

You let your words sink in, and they seem to have the desired effect. Jennifer cracks the barest of smiles and rises to her feet slowly. She walks closer to you, taking precise and careful steps, doing her best not to betray her current intoxication or whatever thoughts might be swimming around in her head.
>>
“You're an ignorant boy, so I'll tell you how arctic wolves work. We are cold. There is only so much warmth to go around, and we must be careful who we share it with. The cold shapes us, makes us strong. Our packs are much smaller, maybe two or three families. We favor the power of the individual over the power of a group. And then one day, while still trying to find my place in this pack, I fall pregnant for the second time and end up with a runt.”

The word lacks the venom you were expecting with it. She says it almost sympathetically. Almost.

“She will never be fully human, never be fully wolf. She will be weaker than the weakest of our kind. And in my mind, I wonder, can this child become strong enough to stand on her own? The cold shapes us. It is in her blood to blossom under pressure, but despite my every effort she found warmth among the others. They never forged her spirit, never made her harden her will. And so, thinking myself wise, I made myself colder.”

She walks around you in a slow circle, each step placing her just a fraction closer to you.

“And now I have a runt daughter who believes that I hate her. A clan that believes that I'm little more than a bitch. And perhaps they're right. But that has advantages. We needed to negotiate with the Collins clan and I knew that Mark wasn't stable enough to handle Sammy, so I offered her to him in a way that made me seem ever more cruel, knowing that someone would discover his actions or words and buy us leverage. And something exceeding my expectations occurred.”

She comes to a halt right in front of you, her face only inches from your own, her eyes locked on yours.

“She met someone who made her strong. Someone who made her strong enough that last night she stood up to me for the very first time. At first I thought that you were nothing special, but there's something about you, Oliver Spencer. I'd like to find out what.”
>>
She cups your chin, smiling coyly at you, her eyes predatory.

“Show me.”

She leans in.

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

Seems like the general consensus(7) is to stand still, and tell her no if she tries to kiss us.

And 4 want to completely ignore the decision from last thread to not show the video at the party tonight.

Given that you're standing still and trying to minimize potential outbursts, do you stay silent and let her do whatever or do you speak up to stop her?

You smirk as she leans in and ease away slightly.

"You sure know how to make things awkward..."

Jennifer gives you a look of confusion, and you tilt your head ever so slightly as you smile.

"Earn it. I'm not going to betray Sammy over a one-night stand, that's stupid. You're drunk, you're wild, and you're not thinking clearly, and if you regret this tomorrow then that makes it even worse. If you really want me? Earn it4. Talk to Sammy, get to know your daughter. Prove to me you're not just saying things to get a rise out of me or to hurt Sammy. Then we can talk about it and see where things go."

Jennifer looks at you like you're the first person to ever deny her something before, and you might very well be. You turn and head for the door, walking only a few steps.

"I think I know what makes me special though. You said you value the power of the individual, right? I have no family. No friends for the most part, although that's changing. I've been alone. I've suffered loss. But I'm still standing. Still moving forward. I clutch the people who are precious to me as tightly as I can. I'm the walk-in embodiment of your ideal man, aside from the fact that I'm not a werewolf."

Jennifer remains silent, staring at you. That last one might have been a bit much, but to be fair you've got sex on the brain from seeing Angie dressed as a schoolgirl and seeing Sammy at her most desperate. You give Jennifer a glance over your shoulder and watch her melt, sinking to her knees.

You head for the door and rest your hand gently on the knob, smiling at her.

"I've got somewhere to be, sorry. Like I said before, earn it. I'm not giving you an absolute yes or no right now."

Jennifer leans forward slightly, her ears shifting, moving to the top of her head, and you can see as she crawls forward slightly that her tail is twitching inside her dress, threatening to lift the back of it up and expose her. You keep your hand on the doorknob as her eyes change to a brilliant blue and her hair turns white.

"Don't go... What do you need me to do...?"

She's acting like a kicked puppy, desperate for affection. Maybe this was what was lurking under her cold exterior. Patrick was too soft and affectionate with her, but a simple cold shoulder and she's putty in your hands.

Maybe it's the fact that you don't want to betray Sammy, or maybe it's the knowledge that if you give in now you'll lose this bit of leverage, maybe for good, but you open the door and step through it.

"I told you. Earn it. Prove to me it's not about a game or about hurting Sammy, and that you can open up to her, and we'll talk. If you can do all that, I'll consider it."

You close the door and lean against it for a moment, listening to Jennifer whine and whimper on the other side. It seems pretty genuine. You walk away and stretch a bit. Genuine or not, this isn't the time to mess with it, assuming there will ever be a time for it. Now you just need to decide what to do.

You could head down to the party, you can already hear things starting to get wild down there. Or you could see if Sammy is alright, make sure she's not still out of sorts. You could also out Jennifer as adulterous, but there's no safe way to bring that up tonight. You don't even know if she's tried that kind of stunt with anyone else.

Why?
>>
You head down the stairs to Sammy's room, though in hindsight you don't know why you were expecting anything aside from reaching her door and hearing a muffled cry of pleasure. Because that's exactly what happens. You check your phone briefly and confirm with it that you were only upstairs for a matter of minutes. She'll need a little longer at least to get it out of her system, plus time to clean herself up and make herself presentable.

You turn your attention instead to the ritual. You need a safe space to conduct it, and you'll need to swipe a cup for your blood. There are plenty of places nearby where you could go, like the caves or the stone ledge overlooking the city. You'll just need to get there without leaving a trail, though now that won't be an issue.

Conduct the ritual at:

"He'll just ask how we know she's begging for a bone"
BECAUSE IT'S 2015
Nah, because it's the full moon obviously, and she's drunk. With our normal human social skills we can tell they don't get it on. Besides, he'll be too deep in the idea of getting animalistic to even care if we told him straight out "your wife is really looking for a dick right now", which we wouldn't.

It was just a thought I had on the drive to work. You've obviously put so much effort into the story, it'd be a shame to let it disappear. If nothing else, it could be published through amazon as a free ebook.

Seems legit. Keep me posted. My new days off starting this week are Tuesday and Saturday.
>>
You head to the top of the stairs and glance around to see if you can spot Patrick, and you catch sight of him almost immediately. He's talking to Stephen about something and laughing a bit, and both are half-shifted already. Most of the other people in the room are in various states as well. The atmosphere is like a bubble waiting to burst, everyone is waiting to go absolutely wild, they just need a trigger.

You head downstairs and wave to a few werewolves, but your progress is slowed considerably by the number of people trying to offer you drinks or say hello to you. By the time you reach Patrick you've received a beer and a shot, and had two werewolves tell you that you're awesome at hunting vampires. Patrick looks at you with a broad smile.

"Oliver! Hello! Welcome to our party! Are you ready to get absolutely hammered and have the wildest night of your life!?"

He throws his head back and howls before laughing heartily.

>Your wife needs you. Sammy said she wants to do some remodeling in her room or something.
>I was just talking to your wife and she sent me away. She's either sad or pent up. Either way, thought you should know.

serious question though, what's the moonshine-like stuff they make in Trinidad called. A friend brought a bottle of some clear shit to the bar, tasted about 160 proof, and had a lime aftertaste. He wouldn't tell me what it was, just that he got it in Trinidad.

Sammy was saying that her mom wanted to remodel, I think you missed that. Sammy's still worried about us thinking she's easy.
>>
"Yep, I'm ready. Oh, by the way? Your wife needs you. I think Sammy said something about remodeling the bedroom or something? I dunno, there was a lot of subtext that I didn't pick up on in that conversation."

You've never seen anyone move quite that fast before. You sincerely hope that he doesn't get there only to be disappointed by what he finds. For your sake as well as his. You turn to Stephen, who sighs and hangs his head.

"Another fine mess..."

You give a small shrug.

"I need some time alone right at midnight. I've got an angel friend who wants me to do a ritual that's going to help me with a few things."

Stephen nods slightly and finishes his drink.

"That's certainly doable, yes. At midnight we'll be howling and doing some special rites of our own, ones that might be a bit violent. It's probably best that you're not there so you don't get caught up in things, honestly."

You sip one of the beers and nod slightly, then pause. The beer tastes different. Bitter. Not like last night. Stephen clears his throat when he notices your expression.

"I see you've caught on... Last night you didn't have the real deal. We made sure to soften things so you wouldn't get drunk. Tonight, though, we're supposed to get wild. Have as much as you like."

You grab a spare glass and a knife from the table and turn to Stephen.

"I can't drink too much before I do this thing, it's pretty precise, but it won't take long. By the by, do you guys have a first-aid kit somewhere? I'm gonna have to cut myself a bit for this. I mean, I already have a kit on me, but better safe than sorry. I need to restock it."

Stephen points down one of the halls.

"Down that way. We've actually got quite a supply to choose from. Feel free to load up."

You nod, sipping your beer as you head down the hall. You find a little medical room, almost like a doctor's office, and a cabinet full of supplies. Bandages, needles, everything a werewolf might need to patch someone up after some excessive roughhousing. You resupply and grab an extra roll of bandages, just to be safe. The kit is in your bag in Sammy's room though.

You carry the bundle of supplies, the cup and the knife back upstairs to put with our bag. You earn a few strange looks from some of the werewolves, but more are too drunk or having too much fun to pay you much mind. A few more people must have shown up, too, because the place is getting crowded. You reach the top of the stairs, hear a glass break, and suddenly the crowd goes nuts. You hustle off to Sammy's room before you can get caught up in it.

When you reach Sammy's door, it's slightly ajar, and you can hear her shower running. She probably left it open as an invitation for you, so you'd know it was safe. You step in and close the door, sorting out your supplies quickly, and note that the bathroom door is open as well, and her clothes are laid out on the bed.

You walk over to the door and push it open ever so slightly, just enough to creak softly. You don't want to spook her by just talking at her. You can hear Sammy shift in response to the noise.

"Oliver? Is that you?"

You lean against the door just a bit. There's no steam in the air, so she must be taking a cold shower.

"Yep. The door was open, so I came right in. I wanted to make sure you were alright."

You don't peek at the shower, though it's not like you could see anything anyway, but you do keep your eyes on the mirror. Sammy pokes her head out of the shower and looks at you. She's soaked and shivering a bit.

"I'll be fine, everything is under control... I actually left the door open in case you wanted to join me, but... now that I'm thinking clearly, I kinda feel awkward about it. Not that I would mind, but... right now I'm taking a cold shower in ice water and I think you'd probably freeze..."

You smile at her.

"Fair enough. I just wanted to let you know that around midnight I'm gonna find a quiet space for a few minutes alone while things are at their most heated. I'm coming back, I just need to clear my own head. Plus I've got this ritual thing to do. It's nothing too major, but I'd like some privacy."

Sammy nods and retreats fully into the shower once more.

"Alright then. If you need any help with the ritual, let me know. I trust you, so... whatever you're doing, I'll try to lend a hand if you want me to."

You're about to deliver a pun, asking her how wet she is, when you hear a crash and a growl upstairs, followed by whining and whimpering and another crash.

"Sounds like someone is having fun up there... We should probably head downstairs."

Sammy turns off the water.

"Actually, it sounds kinda like a fight... They do this sometimes, usually during the full moon... My dad gets all worked up and then my mom shuts him down..."

You pause to consider your potential involvement in the situation. Jennifer is manipulative, and if she's after you, she wouldn't throw you under a bus, but Patrick might think you were pranking him or something.

"I'll meet you out in the hall, alright? I'll tell you about the ritual if you promise not to tell a soul."

Sammy pokes her head out and nods.

"Promise."

You smile and grab your bag, heading out into the hall to wait for Sammy. You reach her door when you hear the heavy footsteps slowly coming down the stairs from the third floor.

You walk casually towards the stairs like you didn't hear him at all and turn, feigning surprise.

"Patrick? What's up? You OK?"

He's pretty beaten up. No bruises, but it's clear where Jennifer smacked him around. He sighs quietly and shakes his head.

"You were right about the remodeling, but she decided she wanted to argue and fight rather than... nevermind."

He moves to walk past you to the party and you gently raise your hand. He pauses and looks at you, and you pat him on the shoulder.

"I'm sorry to hear about that. I thought for sure that the subtext was... Anyway, I just wanted to say that it's a night to have fun. No offense meant, but if she wants to sit in her room and mope and fight, let her. Don't let it get you down though. You're an awesome pack leader, and you deserve to have a great time tonight."

He looks at your hand for a moment, then at you.

"Hmm. Well said. Not ideal, but well said. She's in one of her moods, and you're right. Just because she's choosing not to have fun, doesn't mean I shouldn't have any myself. Yeah..."

He grins.

"Yeah!"

He runs to the top of the stairs, howling and leaping down into the crowd, tackling someone to the ground in the process. You're glad you didn't fuck that one up horribly. You're a little surprised though. Maybe Patrick put her off so much that she flipped out, or she was so devastated that you walked out that she vented at the first person she saw. Your train of thought is interrupted by Sammy walking out of her room and smiling at you, fully dressed and apparently in control of her sensibilities.

"So, what's the plan?"

"The plan is to party and enjoy ourselves. I'll fill you in as we go, I don't want to raise any concern, and I want to avoid any sneaks listening in on things."

Sammy pulls out her phone, and you look at it for a moment.

"Yeah, that works. Kinda. My roommate upgraded my phone, and she says she's not listening in on things but I can't be sure. Better safe than sorry at this point."

Sammy nods a little and hugs your arm.

"Fair enough... Shall we?"

You nod and head downstairs with Sammy to enjoy the party. Over the course of the evening you explain bits and pieces. The book, the ritual, the magic you'll be acquiring, and so on. You avoid references to Angie, as well as the demon or the mark, but she gets the gist of it and doesn't pry. As you finish filling her in on where you're going to hold the ritual, you see Stephen climb on top of a table.

"Midnight approaches, we have but one hour remaining! Everyone, outside! We must begin preparations for the tournament, as well as for the rest of the night!"

There's a lot of cheering and bowling, with people rushing to get outside. You can smell a barbaque of some sort outside, lots of fresh meat on a grill, and Sammy tugs you toward the door with a smile.

"Come on, I'm famished!"

You notice that Patrick is leading the charge out the front door, and you can see Marie and Blake, but Jennifer is still locking herself away upstairs.

Well, I honestly could not give less of a shit about Jennifer and want as little to do with her as possible, so it wouldn't matter to me much if it had, since presumably we'd have just missed the crying.

Seriously, she's crying? Good. She deserves that pain. Those are my only thoughts on the matter.

>Move as quickly and quietly as we can to avoid Jennifer

Your daughter needs a cold environment to come into her own? Okay, I'll buy that. People, organisms in general, need pain or discomfort or whatever to prod them into growing. But you also need SOME sort of emotional resource to tap, something to help you gain strength, otherwise you just wither. This cunt tried to cut off EVERY MEANS OF SUCCOR to her own daughter, and tried to get us to CHEAT ON HER UNTO THAT END, TWICE. No, fuck this bitch, fuck her philosophy, and fuck her feelings. You head upstairs, following the sound, and find Jennifer's door has been broken in half, with claw marks along the outside. There are obvious signs of a struggle, and Jennifer is on the floor in the middle of her room. Her dress is shredded, and her wrists are bruised. She's sobbing quietly, curled up and shaking slightly.

You take a single step into the room and the floorboard creaks. You tense, flinching at the sound. There goes subtle, right out the window. In a flash Jennifer is up, and you barely see the hunk of wood before she nails you in the chest with it.

"Back to try to take what's yours, animal!?"

Her eyes are full of fright, and as you stagger back slightly and brace for another impact you see the realization spread across her features, and she rushes to you. Fresh tears fill her eyes, and she hesitantly tries to figure out what to do, mumbling frantic apologies over and over again. Up close you can see the slight bruising around her neck, all on one side like someone grabbed or bit her throat.

You gently wave her away and sit down on the floor, making yourself comfortable as she kneels beside you.

"That's a heck of a way to say hello... Hi to you too..."

Jennifer hangs her head.

"I'm sorry, I thought you were..."

You nod slightly.

"I figured. Are you alright?"

She nods slightly.

"I'll heal before morning. I've... had worse."

You lean back and sigh, closing your eyes.

"What happened, exactly?"

You hear Jennifer move a bit, and she turns away from you, hugging her knees to her chest. As she speaks she slowly returns to her normal icy tone, returning to human form completely.

"It... Normally I'd say it isn't your business. But you're a human. You don't know how we do things, or why... what he does isn't fine. And I feel like you'd actually listen. With werewolves, there's an expectation of a power dynamic. No matter how willing, a female must create the illusion of a hunt, a struggle, to fuel that dynamic. It's all in good fun, gets the blood pumping, and a male can tell by scent if it's the real deal or not. He starts, and doesn't stop. One whiff of arousal, and he takes that as an invitation, even if it was another woman passing by. He only realizes if I manage to hit him hard enough, which is hard to do face down on the floor. He has no sense of foreplay or what I want. He's the pack leader. If he thinks I'm ready and he wants me, I either have to take it or fight as hard as I can."

She looks over her shoulder at you, cold and indifferent.

"I will endure, as I always have. If I leave, I will be without a pack. I'm as good as dead. Here, between... incidents, I can live like a queen and try to forget his mistakes. I wish I were as lucky as my daughter though. I meant what I said earlier."

You nod slowly and lean back slightly, tapping your head against the wall.

"That's going to make things awkward. I'm not giving a definite no, there's too much going on, but... Look, I meant what I said. Fix your relationship with Sammy, be the mother she needs not the mother you thought you had to be. If you can do that... we'll talk. We'll figure this mess out."

You look at the bedroom and pause. The bed needs repair work, the floor is all scuffed and scraped, and the wall around the door could use a touch up.

"But this? As it stands? This worries me. This really worries me. This isn't a healthy home environment at all..."

Jennifer slowly gets to her feet, holding the front of her dress closed.

"You should get going. I won't keep you. I have things to work on, do I not? I have to figure out how to fix what I've done."

You stand up and nod a little.

"I suppose so. But if you need any help, you're not alone."

Jennifer pauses, before giving you the first genuine smile you've seen on her face.

"Thank you."

She gives you a chaste kiss on the lips and walks over to her closet, leaving you to exit the room on your own. You wipe your mouth to make sure there's no lipstick stain, and head down to the main floor. You can see Sammy and her Dad laughing and dancing with the others, everyone festive and cheerful.

Er, so you seemed to have missed the more important part of what I was saying. I'll concede that hearing a shouty argument followed by whimpers and seeing bruises on Jennifer's body are solid evidence to believe that she's being abused. But as >>44033998 noted, this may not be intentional abuse, so it may not warrant his DEATH so much as his REEDUCATION, given that he exhibits positive qualities in other parts of his life. Respected and loved pack leader as well as father means he might be redeemable. So yeah, please DO err on the side of compassion. That'd be great. And what I was getting at was: Fictional super-tech and magic enable absolutely fantastic ways to deal with potential domestic violence, far superior to what we have in the real world. WE SHOULD USE THAT.

You skirt the edge of the party, keeping to the shadows. You know that the moment you join up with the group, you'll get sucked into things at their pace. You pull out your phone and let Sammy know you're going to set up the ritual and prepare, but you don't tell her where just yet. You walk along to the ledge in the company of your own thoughts, imagining different scenarios.

Jennifer has a crush on you, or is at least attracted to you, but Patrick being around means that it'd never work out. Not only that, but you've claimed Sammy in pretty much every way that matters to her family. You don't know what the werewolf stance on multiple partners is, but you can't imagine them being so flexible that you could wind up with both of them, even if you beat Patrick and claimed the whole pack as your own.

You arrange the black candle carefully and light it, sitting down with your book. Your phone buzzes, a text from Sammy asking where you are. It's nearly midnight, and you have to begin the chant in a moment. Can you really face her right now, knowing what's really going on between her parents? Can you hold that back from her?

>>
>>44034549
I've seen plenty of settings with angels but no god, or even gods.
>>
>>44034440
>Tell Sammy where you are.

Come on Oliver man up! You know fully well is not her fault and she icould easily miss understand if you just leave her outside of it. No secrets not from friends and lover.
>>
>>44034440
Also,
We don't need to 'wind up' with both of them. Helping Sammy's home situation improve would help her, and sometimes a divorce is the best that can come of a bad situation.
BUT
That's a problem for another time. We can let it mull for now.
>>
>>44034544
Does the Devil explicitly need to make all of its three offers to us? Can it offer Sammy something with one of its three deals?
>>
>>44034569
There are also settings where God is a dick
>>
>>44034440
>>Tell Sammy where you are
>>44034510
i'm with you bruh. Plus I'm waifuing sammy harder than I've ever waifued before.
Seriously after how it's gone the prtoag has be a real cunt to just go full harem.
>>
>>44034602
We don't know. That's what I'm worried about. We didn't think to ask Angie.
>>
>>44034595
Even though we left out the demon thing and it could easily hurt her or us if she interrupts?
You guys are doing this on purpose right?
>>
>>44034610
An omnipotent and omnipresent penis?

Well this got magicalrealmy fast.
>>
>>44034628
We can.
You know.
Tell her now.
Or ask her to run interference nearby like some are suggesting.
>>
>>44034618
It doesn't have to be full harem. If we fix it so Sammy and Jennifer are on good terms, they could just to "girl's nights" for the full moon or something. I just want to improve things for them and protect all of the broken people. Including our own parents who will undoubtedly have issues and need a support group when we bring them back.
>>
>>44034610

Or crazy.
>>
>>44034673
Currently being attracted to us doesn't mean that waifuing her or trying to attain any sort of polyamorous relationship is optimal, correct or the best option for her, you know.
>>
>>44034673
They'll love each other and they'll LIKE IT!
or else.
Man, vampirism and necromancy is gonna get fun.
>>
>>44034632
It would explain a lot of things.
>>
>>44034673
>when we bring them back
I laughed
>>
>>44034704
Exactly. Who tells a powerful vampire what is and isn't moral for them? All our friends will love and care for each other.

WE WILL HAVE OUR PERFECT FAMILY, EVEN IF THE WORLD MUST BURN.
>>
You text Sammy to let her know where you are and that you're about to start the ritual, and you open the book to the appropriate page. The flame on the black candle immediately flares and starts to dance, turning black and leaking blood down the sides of the candle. The words on the page seem to glow, and before you can react you find them etching themselves into your mind, pouring out of your mouth in a voice you recognize only distantly as your own.

When the chant is over you find yourself standing. The book is at your feet, and the black flame is three feet tall, slowly curling around into a ring. A small creature, like a red imp of some sort, emerges from the ring and flops onto the ground. It sighs softly and stands, stretching.

"I am Tellarie, demon of lust. I hunger for blood. Blah blah."

The devil waves its hand in a circle.

"Let's cut to the chase. Give me your blood, hemomancer. I won't make any special deals, though I will ask one question. I've done this a few times before and never had any luck. What is your ambition? And it better be good!"

You look down and find the knife and cup in your hands, and you cut your palm and start to fill the cup.

>I'm going to become a powerful vampire.
>I'm not telling you anything. Watch me though. You'll be impressed.
>I don't have one
>Other (write-in)
>>
>>44034736
I'm surprised he expects a happy ending.

If we do bring them back they'll probably end up some weird semi-mindless demon-vampires that need to be destroyed or else Jesus is going to come down and fuck everything up forever because we are ruining the natural order or creation or something absurd like that.
>>
>>44034761
>I'm not telling you anything. Watch me though. You'll be impressed.

A manic Oliver is going to be god-tier levels of crazy-fun
>>
>>44034791
Literally all we are trying to do is become a vampire powerful enough to bring our parents back from the dead. Undead-dead? Doubledead?

We aren't trying to change the world, is what I am saying.

"Ambition... I won't tell you what it is, but it's big. Keep a close eye out, you'll like what you see. You want someone big to drag down to hell, right? There won't be a name bigger."

You offer the cup to the devil, and it takes it, swirling the contents briefly. It grins and downs the contents in one gulp.

"Ah... I can taste it in your blood... Have this on me then. I will open the gate within. I will carve the channel and guide your power."

You feel something snap inside your head, something wholly natural and mundane breaking apart. It's pain like you've never known, so sharp and fierce that you can't even scream. You can feel it, every drop of blood in your body, full of life, and now, full of power. The devil turns to the ring of black fire, sparing a glance off to one side and winking before leaping back through the portal and vanishing.

As you sink to your knees you feel hands on you, and there's a voice speaking your name, but for a few seconds all you can focus on is the vanishing pain and the feeling of raw power. You stop the bleeding from your palm with a thought, sealing the wound and slumping against Sammy. When did she get here? Oh right, she came to see you. Your head hurts, and you feel dizzy from blood loss. You close your eyes and find yourself drifting off in her arms.

The sound of applause is jarring, but then, you can't think of any other way for Angie to react to your display.

"Ambition, I have it."

She laughs.

"Well done."

You smirk a bit.

"Thanks."

-

That's all for now. Hope you had fun.

Yes, when we could be ruling the world instead. Why would we ever want to die?
>>
>>44035022
Thank you QM, Will we see you Wednesday, or should we just wait for next weekend?
>>
>>44035046
Unsure. I'll keep you posted though.
>>
>>44035023
Well, eventually the universe dies, and that's no fun, since everything else would die, and then we'd die.
>>
>>44035022
Thanks for running, QM! Our first step towards real power. I'm excited!
>>44035001
And when all he does is cause things to fall apart he'll just break down and start scream WHY AREN'T YOU HAPPY! BE HAPPY! EVERYONE'S GONNA BE HAPPY! THEY HAVE TO! I SAID SO!
And then it will be a bad day for everyone who isn't a vampire necromancer blood mage with a suit of power armor.
And Angie will be disappointed when we finally get put down.

I just like to a good man's life break apart. It's dramatic and engaging and entirely fun.
I'm just saying, you can't fix everything, not realisitcally, Besides, it's basically a caricature. Oliver isn't that imbalanced.
Yet.
>>
>>44035022
Okay, midrange plans:
-Practice blood control, blood arrows/blood sword could be a thing
-Acquire dorm building for our own. Get Angie to be building supervisor or whatever.
-Move friends into dorm, and work on forting it up with magic and hypertech til it's a fortress/lair
-Work with Angie on finangling power from devils and demons.
-If Jennifer really does improve, we can get her to move into fort house too.
-Gain more power. Find a form of healing/reading that does not require the death of another, like blood magic does.
-Become a vampire of some sort. Considering the theme of the quest so far, and our first demon, we should expect to be something like the white court from the Dresden files, I think.
-Rez family, work on happy ever after.

Seem reasonable?
>>
>>44035226
>I just like to a good man's life break apart.
So you're just a cruel sadistic bastard? There's enough pain and suffering in the real world, why do you want it in your escapism too?
>>
>>44035309
I don't think we'll get an entire dorm to ourselves, but the Wolfes may be willing to lend us some land to work on, for a price.
>>
>>44035187
But we probably can fix space-time. Especially if we ascend to godhood levels of power.
>>
>>44035327
It's fine when it's not mine. And it's not sadism, it's dramatically engaging. Seeing someone struggle to do what they feel is right, go too far, and journey from hero to villain until their end is fascinating and emotional.
Life is usually full of a more banal evil. I like epic stories of doom-driven protagonists.
>>
>>44035328
Mel could help with that, but yea, the Wolfes are another option. I just think we need a secure base for our allies. Cause we're going to continue accruing both allies and enemies, probably from above and below.
>>
>>44035351
You like tragedy. I like success. The RNGods will probably determine which is the final answer. But I find stories of failure depressing and unsatisfactory. It doesn’t matter how epic the journey is, if they fail, I leave feeling pissed off and violent. There's enough darkness in the world as is. Our stories should bring light and hope.
>>
>>44035378
Good point. Maybe Mel's dad could give us some kind of self-setting-up house/bunker.
But yeah, Hell's going to want us to start abusing our power OR ELSE and Heaven's angels might disapprove of Angie helping us condemn our immortal soul to the Pit.
>>44035419
But it's an EARNED failure! And it's not really failure! We'll probably totally achieve our goals, but maintaining that happiness is going to come at a cost, or several, and that's probably going to wear on poor Oliver. We'll make mistakes, and the more powerful he is, the more fallout there's going to be. We can only hold things together for so long until it becomes either too much, we find a way to actually fix everything (boring) or we start losing things and it becomes a game of "What is most important to me RIGHT NOW", what can we lose in order to keep our victories mostly in-tact.
It's like someone beating an game, saving the princess, slaying the dragon and then asking And Then What? And that's something I find incredibly engaging.
I super get the appeal of achieving the Good End, but the Flawed Success is just soooo interesting!
>>
>>44035482
I find the flawed success to be frustrating and tiresome. I derive less enjoyment from it than I would from an outright bad end because at least then I'd be able to move on to something enjoyable instead of forcing myself to suffer for months.
>>
>>44035542
Hey man, agree to disagree? Besides, it's up to QM how fucked the situation becomes. That said we DID accidentally engineer a near-rape and sold our soul to a devil. There's gonna be some highs and lows.
>>
>>44035482
The risk of losing something is fine, reward without risk is pointless, and fuckups should be punished in some way.

A predetermined outcome of having to lose something no matter how hard you try with no theoretical path to protect everything, no matter how difficult, is obnoxious.

Losing something important as the result of a single vote that did not make such a thing explicit can also be frustrating.
>>
>>44035580
>sold our soul to a devil
Only if we fuck up bad enough to die and go to hell, and one devil is the same as the rest in that case.
>>
>>44035542
I agree. Flawed success is such an overdone trope that it feels more predictable than anything else. We don't want it, that's why so many of us are shadowrunning everything we do.
>>
>>44035624
That's fair. I guess it's no different than anyone else. Everyone can potentially go to hell, we just get an advanced notice.
>>
>>44035580
Highs and lows, yes. But if you're here to try to intentionally make us fail, just leave. Our goal is to succeed in every way we want. Realistically, yes, we'll probably fail, but hoping for failure is disgusting.
>>
>>44035684
Why would I try that? The only thing I've fucked up are rolls, but that's outside my control.
I'M the one who voted not to talk at ALL about Jessica with her husband. >>44029958
>>
>>44035716
And how are we supposed to know that? All we can link to you is the one anon wanting us to suffer and fail.
>>
>>44035875
I don't want us to fail! I'll shoot for the golden ending as hard as any other anon, I'm just saying that I find doomed victors and tragic heroes more interesting. I'm sticking with the quest, I just don't think it's going to have a super happy ending.
