You blink, scratching your face with a single finger. This is unexpected. "Well, maybe, I guess."

Roku quickly bows. "Thank you!"

Shikamaru looks over. "Done?" You get the feeling he's getting progressively lazier as the fights continue, nodding off every now and then before snapping himself awake. Roku gives him a thumbs up. "Done."

Shikamaru throws his hand down, and leaps away. "Begin!"

Flipping open your weapons pouch and slipping your hand in, you draw out three senbon with small bells attached. They tingle gently as you lift your hand and take aim, deciding that this was as good an opening move as any. You aim directly for the center of his body, hoping to prompt a dodge from him. Generally you'd be aiming for a more specific point with senbon, but these are simply meant to be a distraction. The first move is an attack, but a psychological one.

With a flick of your wrist the projectiles are sent flying, the bells ringing mid flight. He deftly steps to the left, moving with ease to dodge the attack as it clatters against the wall, and ground. Roku lifts his hands up, and begins to flick through several handseals as you consider your next move.

He extends his hand, and shouts. "Water style: Water Whip Jutsu!" At once, water pours from the sleeve of his shirt down to his arm until it forms a writhing liquid tentacle, several feet long. He hefts his arm back slightly and snaps it forward, and the water whip flies towards you at high speed with a crack. You draw a kunai and slash the water, briefly disrupting it before it reforms and strikes again with another whip of his arm. You roll to the side and sling your kunai at his center of mass, forcing him to once again dodge, this time to the right.

The whip slings over head as you duck and he moves, and you jump backwards, making distance and taking a breath.

Y'know the other odd thing that seems to happen every time.

Quickly darting your hand into your pouch, you draw out both senbon and a flash bomb. Covering your eyes with your arms, you slam it down on the ground, and a brilliant flash blinds the crowd, and hopefully Roku. When you open your eyes you can see him stunned, so you toss a fistful of senbon with bells as well as senbon without bells. Just as you expected, the blind Genin reacted to the sound of the ringing bells, unwary of the possibility of a second attack.

Two senbon pierce Roku's thigh, striking an artory. Blood begins to the soak the pants of his leg, and he falls to a knee as he stops on his leg. instantly the Genin starts form handseals, dropping the liquid whip. His hands glow with a green energy that you recognize as the healing jutsu, and he starts to seal his leg. You notice that he leaves the senbon inside the wound for a moment, preferring to give it a moment to clot so that blood doesn't come rushing out.

After a few seconds he yanks out the needles, and covers his hand with the healing energy. Blood leaks through his fingers sure enough, but it takes just a moment to completely stop the flow. He stands straight and looks at his bloody hand, and smiles. "Pretty good for an opening move. You made me lose a little bit of blood. Listen, there's a lot at stake here, so I hope you don't mind if I start to go all out, alright?"

As he's talking, you grit your teeth. Talk talk talk. All anyone's been doing in these fights is talk trash before they actually whoop each other's asses. You can't afford that sort of luxury. Not now, and probably not ever. You form the handseals for the False Sound Jutsu, and sure enough it's a direct hit as Roku stands there unawares. He holds up a finger and points as you finish.

"Eh? What were those handseals for? I didn't see a jutsu. Well, if you've got something prepared, I hope it can help you deal with this!"

He holds up his blood soaked hand, and the glistening red starts to glow softly. There's a soft humming in the air as the glow intensifies, and he slings his hand in a karate chop motion. "Blood Crescent!"

A glowing red slice of blood sings through the air, and you leap directly upwards in order to dodge it. It creates a gouge in the concrete wall behind you several inches deep, and below you Roku charges forward. He leaps upwards to meet you as you descend, and you stomp down with a kick using all of your strength. He narrowly evades it and grabs your leg, spinning around and launching you towards the ground at high speed. Lights flash in front of your eyes as your body hits the concrete, and you gasp for air while scrambling to your feet, only half aware of your actions.

You reassert yourself, placing your fists up defensively and blinking as your sight returns from the impact. The entire left side of your body is probably going to be bruised from that, and your shoulder and hips are crying out in pain. Nothing seems to be seriously injured however, as the impact was evenly spread out. Roku turns as he lands, and starts to walk towards you.

You're guessing that he can only do that powerful blood attack if he has blood to sling. He can also heal. This means that every injury you give this guy could end up back again as an attack while you retreat. Then you also have to consider that he's a medical ninja and can probably remove poison from his bloodstream. Also better than you in Taijutsu. Trained by rock lee.

How immune? Is it just that she doesn't see the illusion at all? This is a psychological attack; it hits as long as she's aware of it. The point isn't to deceive her, it's to anger her into making mistakes while getting her to underestimate us. Unfortunately, since she thinks of us as a sociopath, she'll see through it anyway, Sharingan or no Sharingan. It'll still anger her, but she won't underestimate us.

I like this one because it still has the chance of him not realizing the False Sound, while the Mari (or Ai) one would be effective but show our hand. If we can generate enough clones then it will still give us the smokescreen effect we would get from the Elephant to Fly technique

Every injury he has could mean another attack, true. However, each attack has to come from injuries on his body, so it's more of a problem up close than far away. Furthermore, he has to run out of blood eventually...

I'm gonna vote A. If we can bait him into attacking with that more, we can win this. Healing takes Chakra. Attacking takes Chakra and blood. Removing poison probably takes Chakra. And all of these take time.

You form at least two dozen normal clones all around you, a horde of illusions. Even though none of them have shadows or form, their sheer numbers make it difficult to see you. They all take off with you, sprinting in a circle all around Roku as you cause the sound of a thundering stampede to blast through his mind. Roku holds his head and grits his teeth, looking around in shock.

Suddenly, the stampede stops. All of the clones do a right face to turn towards Roku, staring him down. The sound of bells echoes out from behind Roku thanks to your jutsu, and as he turns you slip your hand into your weapon's pouch to draw a fistful of needles. Six in total, you fling them all in a burst at various spots on his body. One strikes his thigh, another in the back of the knee. Two in the back and one between the ribs. One slips through his forearm, causing him to tense up in pain as his body is riddled with needles. The remaining ones miss, but even still he falls to the ground on his knee.

Roku reaches around and yanks out the ones he can. It doesn't seem that any of them are particularly vital, but they sure must hurt, and they're in places that he won't be able to heal. You smirk. Every little cut helps.

He turns to you, needles poking out of his back. "That was unexpected. But the pain of your attack released your Genjutsu, thankfully. Now I know you have it, as well. But you still haven't learned all of my tricks, and I get the feeling I've pretty much seen most of yours. Allow me to demonstrate."

The older Genin flies through handseals, and holds out his palms. They start to glow a bright blue. "Chakra Scalpel Jutsu."

He starts to walk towards you menacingly.

Okay, he sees our plan and wants to end it fast now that time isn't on his side. If we choose C the wire won't tie him up, but it *will* force him to respond to it. Maybe long enough for us to maybe get a hit in, but maybe not. He won't expect it because he's better than us in Taijutsu and knows it. Problem is, he's likely good enough in Taijutsu that he might be able to deal with the distraction and counter us at the same time.

If we choose B, he won't be able to see through the smoke, but he'll be expecting a sneak attack by now, since we've pulled so many already. However, transforming into a fly should give us the edge we need to get a hit in anyway.

If we want to attack him up close, I think B is a better option than C. However...

A is the obvious move, and it's the general plan. It's the smart thing to do, but it's also the one he expects. I'm willing to bet Mari told him about our False Sight, even though we haven't used it yet. Also, pain of attacks will release genjutsu, so hiding the caltrops will only work once. And then the caltrops will be an obstacle to us too, and he'll try and herd us into them. Even so, if we use A, and maybe use some normal poison too, we might force him into playing his hand, if he's holding out more jutsu on us.

That blood-crescent technique probably isn't very efficient. Between the chakra used the manipulate blood, physical exhaustion caused by blood loss, and then more chakra to replenish the blood, it probably takes more and more of a toll on his system the more he uses it.

The answer is we get him to use it as many times as possible while taking as few hits as possible ourselves. We can do this with clones, genjutsu, transformation, ranged attacks, all kinds of shit. If we can get hits on him and force him to lose more blood/chakra faster, all the better. But the point is to outlast him.

I hate to be Debbie Downer here but I really think that even if we win we should really retire from the tournament and spend all that time honing our skills for the next chuunin exam.

If you think about it with all these Mary Sues and Gary Stus we dont have a real chance of competing in a straightforward battle, mainly because

a)We dont have the potential. We're shitbag mcgee and we dont have any natural-born gift.

b)We dont have a teacher and even if we manage to get one since their babbis are gonna be fighting in the tournament they're probably gonna give us half-assed directions just so we dont have the tools to defeat their kids/relatives or because they think we're trashcans and their efforst are not worth being invested in someone like us.

c)We dont have the intel. We dont know jack shit about any of our future opponents beyond the "they're stronger than us" assumption so we cannot really train and deliver a hard counter and taking into account these are way pass our limits one shot might be enough to get fucked since these are not battles like the previous test where we can prepare,ambush, surprise and be sneaky.

d)We dont have a finisher move. Yeah we're sneaky, yeah we're crafty, ofc we have many ways to slither past our opponent's defense but if you think about it, we really dont have anything that can pack a punch strong enough to deliver the killing blow. We rely on outlasting our enemies which soon is gonna get us nowhere because the snowflakes are just gonna scream, go berserk and use some sort of magic mumbo-jumbo to one-shot us.

e)The few techniques that we have are gonna be revealed in this battle. This faggot has already told everyone and their mothers that we're genjutsu users, if our oponnent does not have brain damage he will prepare for that.

As for the teacher, that surely depends on who we get doesn't it? I mean Kabuto was mentioned, he doesn't have any motive to 'half-ass' if we went for him for training. Kurenai is another alternative, being a genjutsu specialist, and whilst her daughter looks after a team, that's not really going to influence her either.

Why would it matter about intel? You train to win fights and be flexible against opponents, it's probably very rare for a ninja to know who their opponents would be especially a month before-hand. Trying to be a hard counter an opponent makes it looks like you're fighting just to win a tournament, which is not what the examiners want to look for.

I know Mini seems to have a hard on for making us suck compared to everyone else. But I'm struggling to see what your alternative is.

Well while you're certainly right about being flexible as a ninja, I think you're dismissing the point that we're not a straight-forward fighter and in a real battlefield we wouldnt really face the enemy ninjas 1v1 on the open and if we did we would probably move the battlefield to a zone where we can be comfortable sneaking around and dealing damage rather than fighting them in a head-on battle, and also the point of us getting our asshole torn open in a single move is not probably what the examiners are looking for either.

My alternative is, let the bigger fish move up, wait for the smaller fish to come and devour them. Giving us time to grow, amplifying our repertoire and letting us have enough pieces to properly play chess with our oponents, rather than trying to fight a full set of pieces with a pawn and a knight.

He might be able to heal wounds, but so can we, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't know that. We can use that, but it's something that's better kept until the worst case scenario. We can use it to out-tank him at range while we whittle him down slowly with poison and play keep away with caltrops. Or we could try a risky gambit and go for a disabling strike, then use healing to mitigate the damage.

One other idea: False place: fake an explosive tag somewhere. Not an explosion, just the tag. Might startle him enough to leave him open.

Just to point these things out, we know that he expects a sneak attack, so what if we just did smoke cloud followed by letting it dissipate and just taunting from the other side of the arena? He'd be willing to keep his distance if he thought something was up with the other side of the arena.

Either that, or it would be quite easy to hit a nerve by hitting him in the armpit. Stick a senbon in there and he'd lose an arm from hitting the nerve. Bandaid magic can cure him later. Other good spots to hit are the end of the spine on either side which will take out a leg, the elbow, which will disable at least half the hand, kicking the side of the knee which can break ligaments really easy, the base of the sternum where the diaphragm attaches can break easily, making the opponent have a hard time breathing because it loses an attachment, and the chin which can cause someone to be knocked out if it's hit hard/often enough. We might want to keep the potential one-shot to the sternum under wraps though, as a finisher.
