A squeaking voice wakes you from your dreams. Actually... not dreams. You don't remember a thing. There's only dark.
A little... something is leaning over you.

Whatever happened here, it is pretty damn confusing. Overlord? Weird creatures? You must still be dreaming or something. The creature seems to notice your confusion, so it explains.
>You were an evil overlord decades ago. You ruled these lands, until some so-called heroes stepped in here and decided to overthrow you. They ruined the castle, slaughtered your subordinates and in the end slew you. But now you're back. Back to bring these lands back under your rule.
You seem to have drunk massively before going to bed. There is no other explanation for this.

You look down on yourself and for some reason can't stop blushing like a schoolgirl. This reason might be the fact that you can see your slim shoulders, narrow waist and somewhat short torso with visible ribs under a perfectly average chest, as well as bony wrists and hands. Not because of the way it looks, but because you realized that you are wearing nothing over it.
>Why the hell am I not wearing ANYTHING? Someone get me some clothes, please!
The goblin nods and weasels out of the room and returning a few minutes later with a huge iron armor. You're not the smallest human alive, but still your head would be at shoulder height at best.
>It's old and rusty, but damn heroes took everything else.
You ask for something that's not completely metallic, since this seems at least a little cold on the skin. And difficult to move. The goblin takes a little longer this time, returning with something that looks more like an old potato sack that clothes, but hey, it's better than nothing at all. After putting it on, you turn towards the goblin again.
>So, Kislax... What am I supposed to do here anyway?
He didn't seem to expect this question, so he takes a few seconds to answer.
>Basically, whatever you like. You're the overlord, after all. We might pillage, plunder, murder, burn, conquer... Also you might want to see what has become of your castle or grab a bite to eat, overlord.
Overlord? You're not sure if you can ever get accustomed to that name.

Kislax leaves the room and sounds a big war drum. Ten minutes later, 8 goblins in rusty chainmail, old leather and comparable armor stand before you, clubs in their hands.
>All hail Alice, the great overlord!
Somewhat of a cliché, but you still feel kind of flattered.
>Are those all the soldiers we have?
Kislax nods.
>Most of us got slain in the great war of the heroes. They also looted the castle pretty good. But Groknak still made you something good.
An old orc with an eyepatch and a peg leg appears before you.
>I made your last incarnation's armor so it might about fit you. At least I hope so.
He hands you the black iron armor, now fitted to your proportions.
>Also I made a nice sword from the excess iron. I hope you like it, overlord Alice.
You thank him and start putting on the armor. It fits nearly perfectly. The sword is greatly balanced and sufficiently sharp.

You decide that your army is way too low on manpower to be anywhere near humans or comparable threats. So you decide to go to Darthmoore which is mostly without said threat.
After a short but surprisingly exhausting march, at least for you, you arrive at the forest edge. You decide that you have to do something to get used to wearing armor. It's pretty heavy for a slim person like you.

Kislax asks you.

You send the goblins to get food and everything useful they can find. After a while they come back with some roots, fruit and a few rabbits. You send out your goblins a second time, this time they are told to bring wood and other building materials. At dusk they are back, carrying a bit of loose willow and a little tree. They are low on results, because they had to carry one of their own. Gregrix got his foot under the falling tree and will most likely not be able to walk on his own for a few days.
You set up camp, light a little fire and eat a bit of your fresh new rations.
Goblin after goblin falls asleep, except for the two you assigned to keep watch.
For some reason you find it hard to fall asleep yourself. You think it might be due to the possibility that this is a dream itself, after all.
You sit down at the fireplace, lost in thoughts, when a unfamiliar voice disturbs the silence.

Weird. But somehow charming. Still, there has to be a reason he got here. And a trick to it. He sneaked past your guards after all.
>If I may ask, what brings you here? And how did you manage? I... had guards placed.
The old man chuckles slightly.
>Magic, Alice. This world is full of it. And if you know how to use it, not much is a true challenge. And I'm here to give you a little... guidance, if you have a little time to spare.

>Well, let us start at the very beginning. Six thousand years before today, the gods created this wonderful continent. In the beginning, they installed a man to rule it in their stead. He was the first overlord. He ruled the land kind and just and it flourished. When he peacefully passed on, his son took over as the overlord. But unlike his father, he was corrupt and cruel and the land suffered. One day, he was deposed by a group of heroes who came from the people. Another overlord followed soon, and another one after him. But one thing stayed the same.
Interesting. You never dreamed anything this rich in details.
>Whenever a good person ruled the lands, they flourished. When the overlord was evil, it suffered and made it hard to live in. I know why you're here. And I thought you needed to know this story. Goodbye, Alice. Maybe we'll meet again.
With this words finished, he slowly fades away and is gone. What a weird situation.

The morning comes and your goblins assemble again.

Some days just are better than others. Two groups of goblins return without finding anything or anyone interesting, with one having at least a handful of berries on them. But the last group stays missing.

You stay as still as you can and order the goblins around you to do the same. It works. The boar is ignoring you and continues chasing the two unlucky goblins. But this time, luck seems to be on their side. They reach a tree with sufficiently low branches and have just enough time to jump upwards before the boar rushes into the tree head first and falling over unconcious.
You just stand there in disbelief for a few seconds until Kislax asks what to do now.

Alright. Let's have a glorious return. Or something the like.
>>
You decide to pack your bags and return home. You came for food, you left with food. And a little bit of willow.
Gregrix needs a little support with walking, but you still reach the castle before dusk.
Groknak welcomes you back and tells you nothing special happened during your absence. You don't mind nothing happening. You just want to get out of this bulky armor.
The boar's meat is salted to keep from going bad. You look at the room that once was a nice pantry, except it's a bit run down and just food for three weeks is in it. But you will rebuild it someday when you can get sufficient amounts of material without nearly taking casualties.

The goblins have sat down in the ruined throne room and started to weave the willows. It won't do much, but it will suffice for a little piece of furniture.
>Wishes for furniture? If so, write in.
>>
>>43914562
Chairs first. Then a shoe rack. Can't have filthy boots in this castle, oh no. That's for barbarians. We're an overlord.
>>
A chair would be a great addition to this room. A throne would be more fitting for a throne room, but you have to take what you can get. The goblins weave a nice little chair out of the willows and place it on the slightly cracked, but mostly intact marble pedestal at the end of the room. It is pretty comfortable actually and supports your weight without the armor perfectly. This little luxury feels surprisingly great and you think about what you would like next. More chairs maybe. And a table. A shoe rack, of course. A lady would never allow dirty boots in her castle. And an overlord even less. When there's a chance, clothes that are not made of potato sacks would be great, too. It's the simple things, but they keep up your drive to keep going.

What exactly do you want to keep going at?

You ask Kislax to show you the castle. He happily complies and leads you through the corridors.
>Here, we have the dungeon, the most intact part of the castle. Mostly because it was directly cut out of the mountain we're on. Here is your sleeping room. Which by the way usually is a cell.
You decide that you have to get some normal quarters for you fixed sometime. Now Kislax shows you around the higher quarters. Here we have the front gate and wall around the inner courtyard... or what is left of it.
The wall has some serious cracks every few metres, but nothing that is too much of a threat right now. The front gate completely collapsed and sprinkled the courtyard in pieces of rock, some of which might even be reusable somewhere.
>I would now show you the higher floor with the guest quarters, meeting rooms, practice rooms, library and much more, but most stairways are in terrible condition. The risk would be way higher than the gain.
Something like this from a goblin? Then it must be pretty serious.
So far you have the dungeons with cells and Groknak's forge, the throne room and the kitchen which are livable.

What do you want to do now? (Most of the time, multiple answers are possible, just tends to need more time)

You know of nothing like this. You would have to find anything like this while scouting/exploring.

So do I get a yay for training?

Roll for a tiebreaker

You decide that you need to get better with your sword and armor. Even walking in armor and lifting your sword three times feels tiring already.
>Kislax, is anyone here to teach me how to use this stuff?
The goblin nods.
>Groknak was a great orc weaponmaster long ago. I think he can teach you a thing or two.
Kislax was right. The old orc smiles brightly, exposing his fangs, when you ask him for help.
>Sure, Alice. I taught many good fighters. But beware: My training is rough.
You nod and accept. What could happen? You're wearing armor, after all.

Four days later, after always falling into bed bruised and cursing, you know what could. But now you're much more mobile in your armor and can pose a bit more of a threat with your sword.
Cormix the cook informs you that your food stock will be sufficient for another two weeks.

What do you want to do?

See about fixing up stairways? Failing that, drill with gobbos for a week.

Exploring the castle is not completely done yet. You might choose this.

Yup. At least it's the only thing you might enter at the moment.

Rolling a tiebreaker.

There's one part of the castle you haven't seen yet. The lower dungeon. No goblin goes there usually since sometimes weird things might happen there. But today you feel lucky and put on your armor. Taking two goblins with you, you open the squeaking old iron door. A gust of stale air blows in your face. After a long, winding staircase, there is only one way to go. Through an old tunnel masterfully cut through the rock. It's twice your height and just as broad, making it easy to traverse. On the walls, there are pictures of outlandish creatures scratched in.
>Could that...?
Rizvix asks.
>It must be.
Kislax answers.
>What is this thing which must be 'it', Kislax?
you ask. The goblin answers in a slightly fearful tone.
>The arena. The old overlord's arena. Here he collected, bred and fought every creature that is said to have ever existed.
Sounds interesting. You'll have to see that for yourself. At the end of the tunnel, two doors are visible. Which one will you take?

You feel like this might be a bit too much just for the three of you. If anything from back then is still alive, it might pose a serious risk. You will come back when you feel strong enough for it. But that's not right now.

You made an interesting discovery which might come in later. But what will you do for now?

Get familiar with the area around the castle? Or recruit.

You want to find possible recruits? Alright.
Where do you want to search for recruits?

You decide to take a look at the nearby mountains. There might be something or someone useful hidden.
You put on your armor and rally the troops, marching through the now open (though pretty much nonexistant) front gate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
And at this point I'm taking a 'little' break. It's 3.30 am over here and I have to get some sleep.
I'll be back in around nine hours. I hope to see you then.
