Become The Vampire Quest 10

You decide to head back to your room to study since your Latin class is cancelled. You pull out your phone on the way and text Sammy to make sure she's doing alright, and when you get back to your room you've got a reply.

"Doing fine. Literature was boring. I should transfer to the creative writing class."

You look at your schedule for a moment. Either you went to the wrong classroom, or you were signed up for the wrong course. You could change it and have another class with Sammy, or continue sharing a class with Mark to see what makes him tick. You text Sammy to let her know who else is in the creative writing class and to tell her you're glad she's alright, and you grab your tome and sit down to study.

You set your phone up to translate words as you need them, and to build up a dictionary of words you do and don't know so that you can study appropriately. You delve back into your research, both in Latin and in blood magic.

The Rules:
Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

You're looking really good too..
>>
Your bury yourself in your research, loading the dictionaries full of all sorts of words, from the tome and the textbook. Some of the words are really easy to remember. Sequor. Sequence. The verb "to follow". Others are more abstract, so you add them to your list to study. You make some progress with the book, too. The first real spell is a simple healing spell designed to restore a body based on what is offered. A life for a life, though the translation is more along the lines of "trade a life and you can save someone else from dying from any wounds or illness they might have". It's not immortality, but if you can pay the proper price you'll be able to bounce back from all kinds of things.

The second spell you decode is another mark upon the soul. This one regenerates your blood more quickly, so that you can write your arrays and symbols with less risk and on a larger scale. That ritual requires a new moon, but it's required for most of the other spells that you can find. For now, at least, you're limited to healing magic.

Well, you thought you were. You reread the first spell, the ritual to mark the soul, and find something that you misread earlier or missed entirely. Once you're marked, you can manipulate your blood. Not only does this make writing the spells even easier, it means you can stop the bleeding from your injuries, or even get rid of awkward boners. You pause for a moment. You could also force blood to pool down there. Would that make it bigger? You aren't sure, but you hope so. The look on Sammy's face...

You wrap up your study session and contemplate your last class of the day. Shop. Woodworking and metalworking and other such things. You could blow it off, but that would ruin all the effort you've put in so far today to get your attendance perfect. You hide your time away and contemplate the rest of the day.

You head for the shop class and look around a bit as the bell rings. You don't spot anyone you immediately recognize, so you head for one of the work tables and sit down. A few minutes after the bell rings most of the other students are getting antsy, and you find yourself wondering where your teacher is. Then you hear the scream of pure delight coming from the room next door as an engine roars to life, followed by a cry of panic.

As the hunk of spinning metal hurtles through the wall and right at you, you see your life flash before your eyes. You duck down and feel it pass inches from your head. It hits the wall behind you and cracks it before hitting the ground. A woman in a tank top and overalls peeks through the hole and waves at you.

"Sorry about that. My bad."

She steps through the hole and smiles at you and the rest of the terrified students.

"Class time, right? What do you guys wanna build today?"

>>
You raise your hand and break the silence.

"A helmet?"

The teacher grins at you and strides over.

"A helmet! Like it. Simple, easy to make. A good first project. Since nobody else spoke up I'll pick their projects. You? You can spend this class working on the design and sketching it out. I'll go over materials with you once you figure out what you want."

She walks back through the hole and comes back with paper and some colored pencils, depositing them on the desk in front of you and turning to pass out projects. You pick up one of the pencils and start sketching whatever comes to mind. Batman's mask, a soldier's helmet, a gladiator helmet. You fill the page with scribbles and start to piece together something that's visually striking but simple to make. As you sit back to look it over you find the teacher right beside you.

"What do you think, bronze? I'm thinking bronze. It would look cool, and I get to teach you about casting and forging."

"Will it be dangerous?"

The teacher nods and grins.

"Yep. But if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

You smirk at her.

"I'm up for anything. When do we start?"

She points to a pile of wood.

"Prototype it. Make a wooden demo version and get the size right. Step one is always to sketch, step two is always to make a rough version using inexpensive materials. Test and test until you're confident you can take it to the next step. Now grab some wood and get carving."

You grab a hunk of wood and carry it back to the work table, fetching a hammer and chisel and setting about roughing the shape out. You spend the rest of the class chiseling the wood, carefully hollowing it out bit by bit. You feel like you're barely making any progress, and when the bell rings your arms ache. You sincerely hope Meliora will consider going easy on you. You exit the classroom and stretch a bit, trying to soothe your tires muscles, when you get a text. You check your phone and open the message from Meliora.

"Meet me by the south side of school. I have the suit ready for you, along with the helmet. No backing out, you promised."

You sigh and smile, heading off. She's probably going to kick your ass, and then you'll have to apologize to Sammy for missing track. Maybe you can get some ice from Angie or something. When you reach the south end of campus you spot Meliora, who turns and starts to walk away. You follow her to a secluded area near a small grove of trees, and when you arrive she presents you with the suit and helmet.

"No one ever comes by here. We should be fine to practice."

Yes, there are. Timber wolves, which would be the Wolfe clan, midnight wolves, like Mark, and arctic wolves. It also means her mom is an ice cold bitch. Get it?

Hype building...

"Let's get this over with then."

You grab the suit and helmet, both of which immediately fold or collapse down to smaller sizes. They're shaped like they fit together, and when you connect them your phone vibrates. You take it out, and it opens a slot for the helmet and suit. You glance at Meliora, before inserting the badge-shaped device into your phone. It closes and buzzes for a moment, before adjusting its size to accommodate the additions and presenting you with a new app on your home screen.

Henshin.

God damn it.

You can't help chuckling a bit, and you hit the button to launch the app. It opens up a menu so you can set a sequence of movements and words that will launch the app automatically, and you set it to run only when you hit the icon for now. You'll save the wacky poses and dramatic dialogue for later. Maybe "Die, monster, you don't belong in this world" or something. You activate the transformation sequence, and your phone latches onto your wrist, deploying the suit and helmet and adjusting the fit.

Meliora folds her arms and looks you over for a moment as you get used to the suit. You can tell it's padded, but it's also incredibly flexible, and it moves with you, reinforcing your movements. You feel like you could lift a car, or at least move it several inches with a punch. Meliora nods to herself.

"That suit will help you move faster and hit harder, and the sensors will help you detect the proximity of various monsters. It's not an exact science, they are magical creatures after all, but at the very least you'll know when a vampire is nearby."

-

Treat Speed and Strength as 3 while wearing the suit.

-

Meliora holds her hands out in front of herself and places them over her heart.

"Engage combat form."
>>
There's a brief flash of pink light, her school uniform replaced by a black combat suit with pink decorations. She swipes her hand through the air, pulling a rifle from seemingly nowhere, and Canny, her assistant, appears hovering over her shoulder. She cocks the rifle and it hums softly.

"This is Canis Major, my weapon. It works in concert with Canis Minor, automatically adjusting the shots based on Canny's scans. But I won't be shooting at you today. We're going to be engaging in hand-to-hand combat."

The rifle vanishes in a shower of pink sparks, and Canny chirps at you, flying over to rest on your head while Meliora gets into some kind of stance. You've only ever seen kungfu movies, never studied it, but it looks a little like kick boxing or something. You mirror her stance and hope for the best. There's no sense telling her you barely know how to fight, she'll probably beat the lesson into you either way.

"Just a quick note, my arms are tired and I sprained my ankle earlier."

Meliora nods.

"Noted."

She lunges at you, fist hurtling towards your face.

-

Dodge increased to 2
Block increased to 1
Brawl increased to 1

-

Nearly half an hour later she still hasn't managed to land a solid hit on you. You're mostly playing keep away, diving and dodging around each attack and studying her movements. Once you're sure that you can at the very least fight back you start to retaliate with some blows of your own, and when you manage to punch her in the gut Meliora stumbles back a bit and frowns.
>>

Magical girl transformation sequence?

"...my upgrades must not have finished. Well, I didn't get to properly try them out, but at least I know you're not dead weight. You've earned the suit. Just try not to abuse it too much."

You nod slightly.

"How do I get this thing off, by the way?"

Meliora grabs your hand and shows you the screen on your wrist. There are a bunch of options to customize the suit, as well as a quick release button to stow it away again.

"Here."

She lets go, and Canny flies back over to her as she transforms back to normal.

"Have fun at the party. If you need me I'll be playing games all evening."

She grabs her bag and starts to walk away.

You smile slyly at her.

"This was fun. How about we do it again when you're in top form. I learned a lot, and I want to see you at your best. It was already pretty impressive."

Meliora looks over her shoulder at you, smiles, and turns away with a huff.

"Promise not to cry when I beat you next time and I'll consider it."

As she walks off you try to think of where her father drew inspiration for her personality from. It feels a little like cheating, but if you can work out their likes and dislikes you might be able to surprise her with a gift to get on her good side. You grab your bag and head for the indoor track to meet up with Sammy.

When you arrive you aren't disappointed. The boys and girls are training together, with Sammy leading the group around the track for the warmup exercise. You take a moment to take in the view of all the cute girls before one of them calls out.

"Sammy!~ Your beloved is here!"

You weren't aware Sammy knew any gymnastics, but her stumble and fall turn into a cartwheel and she keeps running, although now her face is bright red. She waves at you, coming around the track towards you with the others.

You wave back and give her a smile, but she doesn't quite meet your gaze as she runs by, and the girls behind her are all snickering or grinning over some inside joke. Maybe someone caught wind of what you two did, or realized why she's been blushing around you. Either way, something is eating her. You head to the lockers and get changed, streching and watching them do their final laps. After they finish warming up Sammy walks over to you, panting softly.

"We're working on endurance today, so I'll be taking the group to the woods for an outdoor run. Fresh air, nice views, that sort of thing."

You nod and give her a cheerful smile.

"Sounds good to me. I'm already warmed up from helping Meliora out though, so I'm set."

Sammy smiles a little bit, and you can just about picture her tail wagging.

"Alright. Shall we get going?"

Behind Sammy you can see one of the girls making a kissy face at you while another laughs. She's the team captain and they're mocking her behind her back. She's provably better than them but they don't respect her. It ticks you off, more than you expected.

You try not to make your glance too obvious before looking at Sammy.

“Don't turn around, but they're talking about us over there. What do you want to do?”

Sammy hangs her head a bit and strokes her cheek idly.

“I was planning on ignoring them... Some of them are... 'naturally gifted', so they don't really have to try to run fast. It means we end up with gossiping vampires scattered about with the serious athletes, and it brings out the worst in both... So long as they don't do anything beyond talk, I'm just going to ignore them. I've heard worse.”

She gives you a smile that tries to look confident, but you can tell it's still bugging her. You give her a nod anyway though, and she turns and runs over to the group. As everyone starts to line up in pairs she waves you over, and you fall in line next to one of the girls. Sammy pulls a whistle from her pocket and on her signal the group starts to jog behind her, following her out to the woods.

As you head into the woods the group starts to thin out, people falling in where their pace dictates and starting to cluster up a bit, some of the girls moving almost as a pack, and the rest of the runners moving in groups of two or three. Sammy is up ahead at the front, leading the group and cheering everyone else on. The girl you started running next to has been keeping perfect pace, and the instant you're out of earshot of the nearest group she turns to you.

“So, what's the deal with you and the captain? There's a rumor flying around that you swept her off her feet or something.”

>Well, I am a handsome man. I mean, have you seen me?
>We're just friends, but there might be something more there. Why, do you think I have a shot?

You smirk a bit.

“I can understand where that rumor came from. I mean, a handsome transfer student comes out of nowhere, suddenly one of the female students has a change of fortune and life starts getting better for her, and they become friends. It's a pretty logical leap to make, if you look at it that way. But before I go answering your questions, I want to know who's asking.”

The girl rolls her eyes and glares at you, and for a brief moment you feel genuine terror as you look at her.

“Get over yourself. And the name is Andrea. I'm asking because she's my friend and I don't want her getting hurt. The fact that you're acting like a smug, aloof jackass isn't getting you any favors. So, straight answer. Are you with her or not?”

You almost trip as your mind wanders, trying to piece together how to respond. She's being awfully protective, but then again, she's right about your smug reply. Could have been worse though. At any rate, friend of Sammy or no, Andrea is looking out for Sammy. You think.

>She's my girlfriend, yeah. Things are moving pretty quick though, so we're gonna slow it down.
>We're just friends, no need to worry. Things might progress in the future, who knows.

You adjust your pace a little bit, speeding up ever so slightly, and you give her a smile.

“Easy, tiger. No need for the claws, I was just trying to make a joke. A bad one, sure, but a joke. Considering how many gossips there are at this school, I didn't want to make it easy in case you were just mining me for information. I mean, we're friends.”

Andrea nods a bit.

“Just friends?”

You shrug a bit and look up ahead at Sammy. She's trying to get the people right behind her to match her pace. You smirk.

“Maybe. I mean, that might change in the future, but I'm not psychic. I like her though. Maybe I should ask her out.”

You turn back to Andrea and chuckle a bit.

“Hey, you know what kind of movies she likes, right? I mean, you're her friend, of course you do... Think you could help me out a bit? I want to make a good impression.”

Andrea huffs a bit and starts to run ahead of you, closing the gap with the next group and passing them by.

“Sammy would never fall for a guy like you. You're all talk and no result. You wouldn't stand a chance in a million years.”

Is that a challenge? You do believe so.

You speed up your pace considerably and pass Andrea a little ways behind Sammy. She matches your speed with a glare, and you just keep on smiling, cranking up your speed. Right as the pair of you are about to sprint past Sammy you slow down and match Sammy's pace, falling in beside her while Andrea bolts away. She smirks at first, before doubling back when she notices you're next to Sammy, running alongside both of you. Sammy is blushing profusely, and Andrea is glowering, positioning herself between you and Sammy. Well, at least you know for sure she's being protective, though to what end you don't know.

You turn to Andrea and smile sweetly, ignoring her stare. It's like she's trying to melt your brain with her mind or something.

“So Andrea, how did you meet Sammy, anyway?”

Sammy perks up slightly but doesn't say anything, looking intrigued, and Andrea glances at her briefly.

“We've been friends since we came to school. I mean, we haven't hung out much since her accident, but it's not like we haven't stayed close. I've known her about a year and a half now.”

Sammy nods slightly.

“Andrea helped me out when I first came to this school. I didn't know anyone, and she stood up for me. I found my confidence with her help.”

Sammy chuckles a bit and smiles, blushing softly as she looks at you.

“Kinda like what I'm doing for you now, helping you settle into the school, though you were the one who helped me out that time too.”

Andrea looks at Sammy, then at you. It's only then that you see it. It's not just anger. It's jealousy. You only see it for a moment, a flicker across her face as she realizes how Sammy probably feels about you. Then just like that it's gone, and she puts on a pretty obviously fake smile.

“Heh, yeah. You always need someone to bail you out, huh. At least you won't have to lean on me so much anymore, right? Saves me the trouble.”

Sammy doesn't seem to have a clue what's on Andrea's mind, and she laughs, gently jabbing her on the shoulder.

"I can stand on my own two feet. I just... like the support. I don't wanna have to do stuff alone."

Andrea nods numbly, smile wavering.

You give Andrea a soft jab of your own.

“Now that Sammy has more free time, how about we all hang out sometime? You can tell me all the embarrassing stories she'd never fess up to.”

Andrea looks at you for a moment, and you give her a reassuring smile, trying to subtly tip your hand that you know what's going on with her. She blinks, rubbing her eyes and grinning at you.

“Oh, I've got some juicy ones. Don't you worry about that, I'll be sure to give you the unabridged versions.”

She laughs a little and starts to run off, speeding away. Sammy shrugs a bit and smiles cheerfully.

“Andrea has always been a little wild and free. She's always burning herself out during practice... I just hope she was joking about the stories though. I swore her to secrecy about a few of the... worse ones.”

Sammy looks at you for a moment and pauses.

“N-Not that there's anything too bad. Just... You know how you have that one friend who you get in trouble with and do stuff you shouldn't do with, like sneak into places after dark or something? Andrea is that friend for me.”

You shake your head a bit.

“I don't, actually. I haven't had a friend like that. I moved around a lot growing up, so I never had much of a chance to make any serious friendships.”

Sammy looks ahead at Andrea.

“Well, maybe Andrea would be willing to get into some more trouble. Now that I don't have to deal with Vanessa I need to rebuild my life and get my studies on track... but I'm pretty sure if you asked you'd find you've got a lot in common.”

You look at Andrea, watching her as she starts to run off into the distance. You're pretty sure she's only barely following the path at this point, just running where she pleases. You keep an eye on her as you speak.

“Maybe this weekend we can all get together and chill. Grab a movie and unwind. I mean, we haven't really gone on a date yet. It'd be a nice first step, y'know? If we're slowing things down and all.”

Sammy laughs quietly.

“Yeah... I'd... I'd like that. Though I don't think Andrea would want to be a third wheel. Maybe I can find out which guy she likes and make it a double date...”

You skirt around that particular line of thought for the moment. Sammy doesn't know, and pointing it out right now would likely end in disaster for at least one party. Instead you decide to ask how much she knows.

“Maybe, but... before we worry about that, does she know about everything? You know, the whole thing with your family?”

Sammy shakes her head.

“Not that I know of. I'm pretty sure that she's... normal. Her parents live two states away running some kind of energy business, and she lives off campus by herself, but aside from that she's just like any other student here.”

Interesting.

“Then we'll have to be careful about things. I'll do my best to keep from letting anything slip.”

Sammy nods a little bit, and you glance at her to give her a reassuring smile. When you look up ahead you can't quite see Andrea, and a moment later she's out of view.

You curse under your breath and turn to Sammy.

“You may as well get everyone else back to the gym. Andrea ran off. I'm gonna go look for her. I've got my phone on me, so I can use the GPS to get back.”

Sammy nods a little.

“Promise me you'll be safe. There are... things in the woods. Dryads, that sort of thing. Try not to do anything... risky.”

She turns and starts to fall back with the main group, and you turn and race off in the direction Andrea took off in. She was running pretty fast, but you know you can match her pace for the most part. It's just a matter of actually finding her. You manage to find a pile of leaves she kicked aside while running, and you follow the trail of similar clues deeper into the woods.

As you walk along you notice a few things about the trees. They seem oddly healthy. Not that the other trees were in poor shape, but these trees are in prime condition, the picture of health. You don't see any downed branches or rotten limbs anywhere, though you do see where some of the trees might have lost a branch or two. Maybe a dryad is instantly mulching them or something.

You spot Andrea a little bit further ahead kneeling by a stream, and you can hear her talking to someone. You slow down to a walk and approach carefully, spotting a pale white figure kneeling beside her, a woman with long white hair and a flowing robe. You don't know if it's a ghost or a dryad, but it gives you the creeps either way.

Without having to worry about stepping on twigs, you're able to focus on keeping out of view and dodging their lines of sight. “Fret not. You are strong, Andrea. You are not a feeble child anymore. We have bonded, you have my blessing. Will it, and you shall be the wave that crashes against him, the wind that uproots him. But that is not what your heart desires, is it.”

Andrea sniffles.

“I just... I... I held her hand, we almost kissed... I thought I had a real shot, you know? And it only takes two days for some guy to come along and make her forget all about it, like it never mattered to her... It mattered to me... It just hurts...”

The spirit laughs softly, and the tree you're hiding behind glows softly, as do several others.

“You feel the pain of being alive. Of loving and losing. But behind that pain is your true wish. You desire for her to be happy, and to choose you over him. If those are mutually exclusive, what do you desire more? For her to smile, or to be yours?”

You peek around the tree at Andrea, who is staring into the stream.

“...I want her to be happy... I just wish... I wish he would go away so she'd be happy with me instead...”

The spirit laughs again.

“Such words! Humans are such funny creatures. You know what you truly want but your heart is still in conflict. Perhaps you should meet him again, speak to him, lay your heart bare. Shall I bring him to us?”

You step out from behind the tree and see the spirit looking right at you. It has a pleasant, androgynous face, smiling cheerfully at you. Andrea is still staring at the stream though. She laughs a bit and shakes her head.

“What would I even say to him?”

You clear your throat.

“I'd start with 'Hi Oliver, I like Sammy and I was here first, but I just want her to be happy so let's talk'. I was worried about you and came to find you. Surprised to find you with a spirit thing, but no big.”

Andrea spins around so suddenly that she slips and almost falls into the stream, and the spirit starts to laugh, floating around her in broad circles.

“A good beginning, yes! Try it, try it!”

Andrea brushes herself off and looks at the spirit for a moment before turning to face you.

“...Hi, Oliver. I like Sammy. A lot. And... I was here first. We had some good times and I thought we'd end up together. Then she vanished from my life for a pretty long time after her accident, aside from practice and stuff. Now she's got free time again, but she's all over you as far as I can tell. I don't want to play second fiddle to you, but I just... I want her to...”

She rubs her eyes before closing them tightly and balling her hands into fists.

“I want her to wake up every day smiling, no matter what that means.”

Dryads are interesting creatures. Unlike most popular interpretations, where a dryad is linked to a single tree, it's more accurate to say that a dryad is linked to a region of the forest. They forge bonds with various plants and animals, drawing in magical energy from them and the environment and redistributing it according to their whims. This results in some life flourishing, and some withering, but by and large their careful pruning and maintenance leads to their region thriving as a whole.

They can draw large amounts of energy all at once from any creature or plant they're linked to, and then dump it all into a single vessel, typically a favored animal or, in some cases, human. These chosen beings serve as the dryad's protector, called into action when the spirit is unable to influence a needed change under their own power, such as dealing with deforestation efforts or a wildfire. The exact nature of the granted power varies from dryad to dryad, but they are typically themed around the area they favor most. Dryads that prefer dwelling near a stream, for instance, tend to give their chosen water-based magic.

You take a few steps towards her.

“That means a lot, coming from you. I know you care about her a lot. I know that it's hurting you to say those things, and I appreciate the sentiment. I want to be accepted by all the people around her. You're her friend, I don't want to drive a wedge between the two of you.”

Andrea hangs her head.

“Yeah... Heh...”

You advance a little bit further and smirk.

“That said... I know you're not going to let go of that pain on your own. You need to put it into action. You need to face your pain. So fight me, here and now. Not for Sammy, just so you can properly vent your feelings. Come at me full force. We'll go at it until we're both satisfied with the result.”

Andrea looks at you for a moment.

“Fight...?”

She looks at her hands for a moment, then at you.

“...You're a complete moron.”

She smirks slightly and sighs.

“But then, so am I. Here I come!”

She rushes at you, coming in swinging her fists. It's nothing like Meliora's fighting style, she's all over the place. You're dodging her easily until you notice the trees around you starting to glow, and a strange symbol forms on her forehead. The dryad giggles.

“You said full force, didn't you? I'll only interfere a little bit until she's on your level.”

Andrea's hair turns white and her body glows a bit, her movements getting faster and faster. In a matter of moments the cakewalk of a fight turns into a real struggle, and you trade blows with her back and forth, bruising one another and knocking each other around. Before either of you get too hurt, the glow fades from Andrea's body and she slumps, hands on her knees as she takes ragged breaths.

“I can't... go on...”

She chuckles and smiles at you, cocky and confident.

“But that was... pretty good...”
>>
She wobbles and falls forward, and the dryad circles around you slowly. Your bruises fade, and your even your arms and ankle feel better.

“Leave her with me. I will see her safely home.”

>>

Yes, that would be good. But we should warn Sammy beforehand, she still doesn't know of Mel, does she?
>>
You turn and start to walk away.

“Just make sure she gets back safely or Sammy is going to worry. Plus that was hardly a fair fight. Next time I want to fight her properly. I want her to come at me with all her strength. That was the point, so she could be satisfied.”

The dryad suddenly moves in front of you.

“Do not speak on what this child deserves or what should take place. She is in my care. She cares for these trees, for the animals in my wood. Here alone she is herself. Here alone she is free. She is part of my wood, and so she is mine to guide and nurture. She is unsatisfied, but that is good. She will grow. Some pain must remain for that growth. She will become stronger, like a tree battered by the wind growing thicker, taller, sturdier. You have done your part.”

You look at the spirit for a moment and smile, relaxing a bit. It won't hurt you. It cares about Andrea, which means that it won't do anything that will upset her. At least, you think so.

“Fine then. I'll put my faith in you, spirit of the forest. Can you let her know I wanna get coffee with her and Sammy this weekend?”

The dryad nods and flies past you, hovering beside Andrea and kneeling down beside her.

“It will be done.”

You walk off, pulling out your phone and letting Sammy know things ended up alright and Andrea needs some time to herself to think about something. You follow your GPS back to the gym and get a reply letting you know everyone went their separate ways, so she headed to her room to get ready.

You change out of your track gear and wash up, switching back to your school uniform. You can remember the way to the shops for the most part, and you've got an upgraded phone to serve as your guide now. Making your way into town isn't an issue at all, but as you exit the gym you pause for a moment to consider what you really need. Some new clothes for the party would be a good start, and those coffee beans for Angie as well. But you're being invited back, and last time you were treated to food and drink. You should probably bring something. You take out your phone and text Sammy about it.

“I'm gonna head into town and pick up a few things. Wanna come with me? I could use some help picking out clothes and stuff.”

You head for your room to put your notebooks away and grab the tome, and get a text back from Sammy as you near the door.

“Sure thing. I just made it back to my room. I'll meet you by the bus stop in a little while.”

You respond that you'll be half an hour, just to give yourself plenty of time to prep the tome and check the translation thoroughly. When you walk in you don't see Meliora, and there's a note on the couch for you. The TV is on, and her avatar has died while she was away. You grab the note.

“Something came up, had to run out. See you later.”

Considering she can literally text with her mind, you're a little unsure why she would write a note, especially when it would take more time for her to do that. You check your phone but there aren't any messages for you from Meliora.

>Leave it alone, you don't want your face melted off
she's probably sleeping or upgrding
leave her alone ennit
Just go out she's fine.
>>
You back away carefully and leave it be. It could be spare parts, extra arms, or any number of things. Heck, it could even be a backup body. You really don't need her walking in and finding you staring at her naked body. You head to the bathroom and grab the tome, checking for any special conditions one last time. One phrase in particular sticks out to you, and you double check your translation. The candle needs to be black, but that's all it says on the matter aside from what you already know.

You pack the tome into your bag and make sure it's well-hidden since you'll need it for the ritual and don't know when you'll be back. You just need to keep a close eye on it for the time being, and you just know that fate will conspire to keep you at the party while the moon is at its highest point. Well, maybe not fate. Maybe drunk werewolves who won't shift to human form to drive you home. It's almost the same thing.

You head to the bus stop and check over your funds. You've still got your regular money, as well as your gold coins for the Bizarre. And since Sammy's uncle was there, she probably knows about it. You'll need to decide if you want to gamble to try to get some more coins though. Maybe you'll bump into Stephen again while you're there and can ask him for a loan or something. You smirk a bit. It'll be a fun and productive night, so long as nothing goes wrong.

You're pretty sure that everything is going to go horribly wrong in every way. But that's just fine with you. Whatever happens, tonight you take another step towards securing power and connections, the things you need most at the moment. And whatever jam you find yourself in, you can figure out a way around it.

-

And that's where I'll leave off for now. Questions, comments and concerns?
>>
>>43922635
So are drunk shifted werewolves well known as agents of fate or is this just a new insight Oliver has discovered? Could Sammy develop Fate powers once we beat whatever inevitable mental block is keeping her down?
>>
>>43922635
Next when? How high are the happening scales? Fenwright know about us not jobbing to Meliora? We at full health? What's are ! level at for the various factions?
>>
>>43922516
This. She TOLD US she was going to be busy. Poking our nose in her belongings isn't going to endear us to her.
>>
>>43922635
What was in the box?
>>
>>43922635
Yeah i have a concern
why are you such a bludclart, lmao

No actually just character sheet when, please dont' make us break any more hearts by purely existing, and how do we upgrade stats? meliora is gonna be so mad about jobbing to us last time that her new upgrades will break all our ribs, and i want to dodge better.

It was an attempt at humor at 1 AM when I have work in the morning.

>>43922669
Unsure, probably Wednesday-Thursday BTDQ and Saturday-Sunday BTVQ. The what now? I mean, things are in motion, but it's not of epic proportions yet. Not as far as you know. Yes. I'm unsure precisely what you're getting at.
>>
>>43922712
>I'm unsure precisely what you're getting at.
How much attention have we caught with the various people and factions of power?
>>
>>43922706
A mystery!

>>43922709
Next thread, so this weekend. I don't control the intricate web of characters I've created. I mean, I sorta do, but... shut up. You'll find out about that pretty soon, don't worry.
>>
>>43922635
Can't wait to get our blood-magic on. It's going to be hilarious if a vampire tries to bite us and our blood just, like, burns them or something with a spell.
Fun things shall occur for young Oliver.

Christ, why are we starting at an 8?

That's not engendering trust.

Who is best girl?
>>
>>43922635
Comment: really look forward to this quest.

Questions: did our monster lore check earlier tell us whether or not dryads are trustworthy? Do they do what they say, typically?
When are you planning on next session?

Plans for next time: kiss Sammy's cheek when she meets us, maybe tell her about Andrea being bound to the dryad, since our loyalty in this situation is to Sammy, not Andrea("She might not be happy I told you, but you have a right to know").
Smooze with the pack some more.
become cursed blood yokai slayer w/blood sword skillz
>>
>>43922748
If we can still control our blood post-drain, turning it into a bunch of tiny hooks and shredding their internal organs might be fun.
>>
>>43922748
>vamp bites us
>our blood rips the fangs out of vamp's mouth

>>43922839
>Deadman Wonderland flashbacks
Mel better make fun of us for it if she finds out
>>
>>43922742
Alright.
So,
When finding out why mark was being such a weirdo, when finding out about the file, when will you stop making us break hearts purely by exisiting, and when will you stop being such a bludclart?
>>
>>43922786
It was never meant to.

>>43922825
In what, this quest or in general?

>>43922835
Thank you very much.
Nope, your general monster lore is pretty spotty at the moment. You don't know if they're trustworthy as a rule.
Probably Saturday night.
All good goals.

Damn it.
>>
>>43922872
blood bullets?
>>
>>43922877
Eventually. Eventuallyyy. Eventuallyyyyyyy. When I decide to look up what that means, probably. I dunno, I'm pretty lazy when it comes to expanding my vocabulary these days.
>>
>>43922885
Sword can be brought back into body and is therefore superior.
>>
>>43922915
Eventually, eventually, eventually, Lot of eventuallys.
I need right nows goddamnit!

oh, it's basically just jamiacan for period pad I guess, but it can be just any exclamation or swear placeholder. "why go to your bludclart workplace when you can take up QM'ing 24/7 you little bludclart?"

Alsooooo
When are ever going to have breakfast? we're doing all this shit without the most important meal of the day, it's ridiculous.
>>
>>43922877
>bludclart
That's a terrible thing to say, anon. Shame on you, shame on your whole rastafarian island.
>>
>>43922946
Nobody said the bullets dissipate after piercing the target. Maybe they go through the target several dozen times before returning while consuming less blood while in active use and being harder to block or evade.
>>
>>43923004
wha ya fi say rudebwoi
mi no haffi spark ya jaw, keep chattin shit u battyole, kmt

On the other hand it'd be really funny in my books to see a werewolf put their fur into dreads and be some lame fuckin stoner.
"if you really think about it, all the great historians and scientists were stoner werewolves, open your eyes sheeple"
*hits bong*
>>
>>43922946
I won't lie and tell you you're wrong, but blood bullets are cool. Two words. Finger bang.

>>43922981
If I rush these things, the pay off won't feel as good. Plus I want things to progress naturally. During points in the story where you're biding your time or chasing a specific goal I'll do little time skips here and there. And that's an interesting word. I'll have to start using it.

>>43923004
Now now, some of my best friends... pretend to be Rastafarians. Hmm. Maybe not the best example...
>>
>>43923082
...this basically sums up a paladin my friend once made. A skinwalker trying to prove that not all werewolves are bad, smoking his in-universe equivalent of a bong and trying to make friends.
>>
>>43923098
Thanks for answering my questions, but...
You did ignore the breakfast question so i'm going to have to assume you have some anti cereal agenda and we can't be friends anymore.
>>43923117
Your friend sounds chill
I bet he likes breakfast
You breakfast hating bumbaclart
>>

Hey, you're the one who started insulting our QM for no good reason. And please, essayez-le, les vipères vous tuer avant que vous obtenez grâce à la première bayou. Si les alligators ne pas vous obtenez d'abord.

Quuu Emmmm

and holy shit i just had to solve 6 captcha in a row i remember why i stopped coming here now
>>
>>43923496
Odds are that means you were fucking them up. Turn on legacy captchas, it's much better.
>>
>>43923496
You were picking on our QM, and we have precious few that run good quests, so yea, I'm gonna pick right back at you, you jackass
>>
>>43923555
I wan't picking on anyone, t'was just banter m8
>>43923510
will do bruvva
>>
>>43923555
Banter doesn’t translate well through text, and when you include insults with complaints (as you initially did, demanding a character sheet) it doesn't read as banter, it just reads as being rude & self-entitled.
>>
>>43923669
Because the QM definitely wants an oversensitive cunt like yourself defending him from everything remotely hostile.

Different anon.
>>
I wasn't the original "gibs character sheet u lazy fuck" anon but i did ask a question about it at the end.
And calling someone bludclart isn't an insult...
okay...
technically by definition it is an insult, but by context it was just banter, so w/e
