You are ROY POWERS, a Vertical Tank Commander!

Currently, you were standing on a stage with a greatsword in your hands. In front of you was the sniveling former Lord Kalendor, on his knees and his head forced down to expose the back of his neck. The man had betrayed his oaths and his king, which in Breton was an offense punishable be death.

And you were expected to carry out the sentence.

Meanwhile, you were at the center of the spotlight. Soldiers from both Tilean and Breton were watching you keenly. The Bretons eagerly awaiting you to dispense justice while the Tileans looked on in shock or ambivalence.

You tighten your grip on the handle in an effort to counter the shaking. The weapon is cold and heavy in your hands.

Instead of carrying out the deed, you plant the sword in the ground, surprising everybody gathered.

"Kalendor, am your judge, your jury, and your executioner." You say grimly. "You have one chance to plead your defense."

Kalendor seems to pause, as if carefully considering his words. His eyes dart between you, Artois, and the divided crowd before he finally speaks up.

"I was forced into it! I had no choice!" He blubbers. "My castle lies near the border with Reikland! They threatened my lands and my very own family! But these savages, they didn't even bother to give me a chance defend myself! I fled because I knew they'd kill me on sight due to their archaic laws!"

Suddenly, there's a lot of grumbling and mumbling within the Tilean crowd, while the Bretons were clearly becoming agitated.

"Liar!" One of the knights roars.

"You are truly an honorless worm!" Another sneers.

"Hey! Lay off him!" One of the Tilean soldiers shoves one of the Bretons. "The guy has the right to speak!"

And then you see the faint traces of a smug smile on Kalendor's face. The bastard just played you. By appealing to Tilean crowd, he had effectively driven a wedge between them and the Bretons. You could very well have a full blown riot on your hands...

"You've made your defense, and I've made my decision. In the eyes of both Bretonian and Tilean Law, I deem you guilty." You say loudly in an attempt to salvage the situation. You then pull the greatsword out of the ground and give it a mighty swing. You barely even feel any resistance, and the next thing you know Kalendor's head goes rolling off into the grass, his face permanently stuck in a knowing smile.

"IT IS DONE." Artois shouts, also sensing the bad atmosphere.

"That's right. Show's over. Get back to your duties!" Sawyer barks.

The words are enough to convince both sides to party ways, but you can still see suspicious looks being shot at each other.

"A huge fucking mess this turned out to be." Sawyer grumbles as he walks up to you. Meanwhile, a team of squires dispose of Kalendor's head and body, as well as clean up the blood that has gotten all over the stage. Strange, you didn't even notice that.

"Sorry about that, sir." You say apologetically.

"Don't blame yourself, soldier. There were no easy ways out of that." Sawyer grunts as he glares at Artois. "Shouldn't have put him on the spot like that."

"By Breton law, it was his duty to carry out the sentence. I was just doing what any other of my countrymen would do." Artois crosses his arms.

"Hey, hey, this is all water under the bridge now." Bannon, of all people, jumps in between the two commanders. "Don't we have an actual enemy to fight?"

"He's right." Sawyer grunts. "We still need to hammer out a plan. With Kalendor going traitor, who knows how much he's told the Reiks before his head came off."

"I agree, we must accelerate our plans." Artois nods.

"Bannon, bring your platoon along. I get the feeling they'll be involved in this." Sawyer instructs.

"W-well, you heard him." Bannon stammers, and you and the rest of the platoon follow him into the command tent.

"All right, our problem is this." Sawyer points down to the map. "Our original plan was to fight our way straight to Reikland's capital, Altdorf. Obviously, to do that, we'd need to weaken its defenses."

"We were planning to attack two areas critical to Altdorf's defense." Artois continues. "We've located two major facilities that supply the city with its soldiers and weapons. One is Der Riese, where Reikland manufactures their undead abominations."

"And the second facility is the Iron Foundry." Sawyer explains. "Basically their industrial heartland. Almost half of Reikland's total wartime production comes out of that facility alone. As you can see, taking out these two areas would seriously cripple Reikland's war effort."

"The problem is, we've heard reports of them tightening their defenses, no doubt thanks to Kalendor. We were originally planning to attack them later, but if we dally too long both locations would essentially become unassailable."

"That means we're going to have to do a two pronged attack." Sawyer says, drawing two lines to the indicated facilities on the map. "Given the recent.. 'developments', I think it's best that our armies split up. The Bretons take one facility while we take the other."

"A sound decision." Artois nods. "But who will attack what?"

"I think we have more experience with dealing with the undead." You point out. "Plus the Bretons love nothing more than a big armor fight. It's only natural that we take Der Riese and the Bretons take the Iron Foundry."

"He brings up some good points." Sawyer turns to Artois. "What do you think?"

"The boy speaks merit." Artois nods in agreement. "My scouts tell me the Iron Foundry houses extremely formidable steeds. My knights would very much love to test their mettle against them!"

"Then it's agreed." Sawyer turns back to you. "We'll get ready to perform the main attack tomorrow. Bannon, I know you just got back in, but do you think your platoon can handle some more recon in force today? I know it's short notice but it seems you've picked up quite a knack for it."

"Ah well, I suppose the rest of the platoon is a bit fatigued as well." Bannon says nervously.

Sawyer narrows his eyes at the junior officer, but then finally nods in agreement.

"All right. Your platoon has the rest of the day off, but we're moving out first thing tomorrow, so get yourselves ready." He grunts. "All of you are dismissed."

You decide to talk to Axel and Alfie about the new experimental signal jammer Egan was installing into Brick, just to see what they thought of it.

"Hey! Axel, Alfie!" You manage to catch the twins at the motor pool. "So what do you think about that new gear Egan's putting into your VT?"

"Bah, big hunk of junk if you ask me." Axel grunts. "A lot of extra weight for practically zero protection in return."

"I-It's soft protection!" Alfie insists. "D-don't you think it's worth it to have a chance to s-stop those u-u-undead things?"

"Alfie, you know the best defense is a good cannon and some thick armor!" Axel grumbles. "Undead can't get to you when they're blown to pieces!"

"Y-yeah! It's a great support system!" Alfie nods in agreement.

"I guess." Axel frowns. "It's just... there's a lot of wires and shit going through that thing and into Brick, you know? Now, I now a thing or two about VT maintenance, but I just can't wrap my head around that thing. What if it breaks down, or worse, breaks Brick down?"

"I-It's not THAT complicated!" Alfie punches her brother lightly i the shoulder. "Y-you just keep falling asleep in class!"

"To be fair, the drivers always tended to be the better mechanics." Tarin points out.

"Well, you two have fun with that." You say to the twins. "Here's to hoping it doesn't explode or anything."

"You're not helping." Both brother and sister glare at you.

You and Tarin quickly make your escape from the angry twins.

"So what do we do now?" Tarin asks.

"How about we hit up Bannon and Parker? They have to know more about Der Riese." You suggest.

"All right." Tarin nods. "Lead the way."

You head over to the smaller platoon command tent where Bannon and Parker have set up shop. As always, they're inside strategizing. Well, more accurately, it was Parker doing all the strategizing and Bannon just going along with what she said.

"Oh! Roy, Tarin! How nice to see you!" Parker smiles when she sees you enter. "Please, take a seat! How can we help you?"

"I was just wondering, Parker, what exactly IS Der Riese?" You ask, a little perplexed. To you, it was just another random, somewhat foreign sounding name.

"Ah, well, it's not exactly a well known fact now, is it?" Parker sighs. "Der Riese roughly translates to 'The Giant" in Riek. It used to refer to a large statute of one of their great heroes of the past. But, during one of Reikland's many, MANY wars with Tilea, the statue was completely demolished in a very large and VERY bloody battle."

"How bloody?" Tarin asks, oddly interested in the story now.

"Well, according to the stories, so much that it actually started pooling into puddles and ponds." Parker shrugs. "Then again, ancient historians always loved to embellish things. Anyways, after the battle, the Reiklanders converted the area in a graveyard as a memorial to their losses. There are countless bodies buried there, which I guess made for the perfect place to set up their experiments into raising the dead."

"That sounds extremely creepy." You frown.

"Very." Bannon nods in agreement. "Makes me happy we're going to burn the place to the ground."

"So what exactly is the plan of attack, then?" Tarin asks.

"Well, it's going to be tricky." Parker shakes her head. "Aerial recon of the site shows a central, fortified facility surrounded by a large graveyard. Very flat and very open."

"Makes it hard to approach." You mutter.

"Not to mention, there's still large pieces of the statue still scattered about. It could give us the cover we need to approach, but the Reiklanders must have thought about that, too. No telling what they've got hidden in there."

"Well, going on the open ground lets us maneuver and we attack across the wide front." You note.

"And if they have heavy artillery there, we'd get creamed." Tarin counters. "We should stick to the cover, like we always do."

"Okay, you have a point, Tarin." You nod. "We'll stick to the debris field and work our way through it."

"Okay, I'll forward the recommendation to Sawyer." Parker nods.

"So, what else does Der Riese produce?" You ask. "Besides those undead soldiers."

"It's also the likely place they're harvesting the brains for their Lynx control systems." Parker says grimly. "So if we take it out, expect to see less Lynxes on the field, or at the very least the Reiklanders would be forced to manually crew them the old fashioned way."

"That can't be all they have there." Tarin observes.

"Of course not, but the problem is, getting intel out of that place is nearly impossible. We haven't been able to get any spies near the place, so all we have to go off on is aerial recon and whatever we've faced so far."

"Oh right, I almost forgot." Parker stops you. "The man who runs Der Riese, it's none other than Dr. Wihelm Strasse himself. Basically the father of all Reikland superscience. Be very, VERY careful if you encounter him. He will for sure be saving the best stuff for himself."

"We'll keep that in mind." You nod.

"Come on, Tarin. Let's get some rest." You say.

"Good idea." Tarin nods. "It's starting to get dark."

The two of you head back to your tent, passing by the motor pool where you can see the mechanics already fixing up the minor damage Clementine had taken. You also caught sight of them welding a large, fat metal box onto the back of Brick's hull, no doubt Egan's device. You really hope that it'll work.

"See you in the morning." Tarin says simply as she kicks off her boots and settles into her cot. You do the same and close your eyes.

You open your eyes and find yourself in the midst of a dark forest, all alone with nothing but the trees around you. And this wasn't one of those nice forests like back at home. Here, the trees were tall and ominous, the brush spreading out to block the sky so effectively that you couldn't even tell if it was day or night. Vines and moss choked the ground and the tree trunks, and a thick mist shrouded basically anything the foliage didn't.

But what really got you was the complete silence.

No animal or bird calls. Not even a gust of wind to rustle the leaves. Nothing.

Worst of all, you were alone, yet not alone. You had this ugly feeling there was something else in this forest looking for you...

You need to find Tarin. Somewhere, anywhere. However, where to even start looking? You pause to think what Tarin would do in place like this. The first thing she'd do was try to find her bearings. That meant finding some sort of landmark or navigation aid. You check your pockets, but of course you don't have anything as convenient as a compass on you. You'd have to settle for the old fashioned way. You grab onto the trunk of the nearest tree and start climbing, your fingers and boots digging into the slippery moss. Finally, you reach the top and poke your head out of the canopy, confirming that it was in fact night, thought the sky was very odd. It was just pitch black up above. No stars, not even a moon.

You look around. In one direction, you see what appears to be a small town, dimly lit against the forest canopy. In another, you see embers and wisps of smoke. A sure sign of a campfire of some sort. And in another, what appears to be a large clearing.

You decide to make your way to the campfire. That seemed to be a good place to start. If this were unknown territory, Tarin would naturally be wary about heading for towns. They might be the enemy, after all. You push your way through the brush, until you could see the flickering of the fire, even though the foliage. However, what was odd was that it seemed to get colder as you got closer, with the chills reaching down your very bones. Finally, you reach the outer perimeter of the camp.

Suddenly a pair arms warp around you, pale and slender, yet very strong. Then you feel Tarin's hot breath on your ear as she whispers.

It's then that you realize that Tarin isn't wearing any clothes at all.

And then you realize her arms were now unbuckling your belt.

You decide to follow Tarin's advice and let her continue as she quickly and efficiently strips all your clothes off, leaving you as naked as she is. Strangely enough, you don't feel so cold any more.

Tarin then spins you around and locks her lips against yours, her tongue penetrating into your mouth and violating everything inside. One of her hands meanwhile reaches down and grabs the control stick, and starts working it as if she were piloting Clementine in the midst of combat. Not that you were complaining.

Once Tarin is finally satisfied with the mouth to mouth treatment, she lets go of the stick and presses both her hands against your bare chest, and with one good shove sends you onto the ground on your back, though one part of you remains standing.

"Mmmm, I wonder how much of my armor it'll penetrate..." Tarin grins hungrily as she positions yourself over you.

"Dohohoho, did you think zat you could have him all yourself?" A familiar, smug voice chuckles.

You crane your head back to see Hess, dressed in nothing but a skimpy leather bikini and a riding crop in her hands, her one good eye gleaming in the night.

"Why don't ve see how tough YOUR armor is, Roy?" She giggles.

...

...

...

"GAAAAAAAAAAH!" You suddenly shoot upright in your cot, nearly knocking Tarin over as you do so. Your head darts around, and you realize it's finally morning. It felt like an eternity had gone on in that dream...

"Another nightmare?" She asks curiously.

"It was actually pretty nice." You smile. "You were in it."

"Huh, really." Tarin blinks. To her credit, she does maintain her pokerface, but you can tell she's happy to hear that. "Anyways, we better get ready to go. Sawyer wanted to move out today."

"Yeah, you go on ahead, I'll catch up later." You say.

"Sure thing." Tarin nods and exits the tent.

You wait for a few more seconds, quietly counting under your breath to make sure she's actually gone before getting out of your cot and swiftly changing out your underwear. That dream was certainly very... interesting. You honestly had no idea where the hell it came from. Then again, dreams often never made any sense.

Now cleaned up and with a fresh set of pants, you head out after Tarin, and bump into Willem.

"Oh, hey Willem- holy shit, what the hell happened?" You gas as you see an ugly bruise over Willem's left eye and a bandage on his cheek.

"Ah, it was nothing, Lord Roy." Willem shakes his head. "Just a little altercation."

"Just an 'alteraction?'" You raise an eyebrow in suspicion. "It looks like somebody hit you in the face with a chair."

"More like a table, actually." Willem chuckles nervously. "It was nothing, really. Just a few of letting our blood run too hot. You know how it is."

"You didn't happen to get into a fight with some Tileans now, did you?" You frown.

"Well, I didn't start it, if that's what you mean." WIllem sighs. "I only wanted to see Alfie again before we parted ways. After all, I will be accompanying my Lord to do battle at the Iron Foundry, while Lady Alfie travels with you to Der Riese. This... well, this may be the last time we see each other."

"Well, DID you see her?" You ask.

"Ah, well, therein lies the problem." Willem sighs. "I was er... 'stopped' on the way by several of your number, and... blows may have been exchanged."

Well THIS was just asking for an international incident.

"How bad?" You groan.

"The injuries were mostly minor. I believe the biggest thing that was hurt was pride." Willem gives a slight smirk. "Some people seem to have the misconception that a knight or squire is vulnerable without their sword or armor."

Yep, definitely an international incident.

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week, and don't forget Kancolle on Friday!
