"Masami, Haruko. I don't want to scare you, but turn around very slowly."

I hear the familiar voice of my sister, Kaori. She very calmly and sternly gives me a simple command. I was searching for her just moments prior, so hearing her sound so deadpan is almost scary in itself.

Slowly, I turn to her direction. A part of me wants to shut my eyes tight and not bear witness to whatever terrible thing has happened. My eyes slowly come across the forms of Kaori and Julie. Both of them appear to be mostly intact.

Both of them have a kind of silvery 'coat' that has engulfed their upper half. It's like they're wearing coats of wet concrete and cement. It moves, shudders, and vibrates across their clothes. It almost resembles puddi in a way.

"Help." Kaori states very plainly, and calmly. Which is good, because Julie's eyes are wide with terror as the coat oscillates over her skin. She tries to speak, but doesn't find the words.

Haruko freezes in fear, and grips onto my arm.
With an ear-piercing shriek, she screams her twin's name.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and I think I'm going to be sick.

No! No! Can't panic! Let's just recap, real fast.

I found Mom, I found Asai, Asai is super strong, he can also duplicate himself, he can also turn into a statue at will, I ran away with Mom, I came back and found my dear sister covered in what seems to be living concrete.

Okay, now I can panic.

"Kaori! Julie! Just.. hold still! I'll go get help!"

I start to turn around, when I hear Haruko squeal.

My head snaps back to notice one of the concrete coats has grown a spike on the outside.
"Don't go, Please." Kaori grits her teeth.

This is bad, this is bad, this is bad!

>Wait! Stop! Whoever is doing this, Stop!
>Some stupid plan that will get them out of this!
>Okay, just calm down! Calm down!

I slowly try reaching into my pocket, and tapping a button on my phone.

The spike shows back up again. On Julie's arm.
My hands comes out of my pocket, and it goes away.

I can't call Mom. She has no idea this is happening.

My eyes, they're hurting.

"Masami, No cry, not now." Kaori seems to command my attention.
"P-Please, help." Julie squeaks. She's doing enough crying for the both of us already.

Doesn't matter, the tears are still flowing, and I can feel my cheeks redden.

This is something I really don't know how to fix.
The person who can probably fix it isn't here, and I can't call her.

"Kaori, please." I gently whisper through a cracking voice. "Do you have any ideas!?"
"None yet, it's definitely Asai." She states very plainly and quickly. "He's close. I didn't see him when it happened, it was like he dumped a bucket of water over our heads. It took me several minutes to realize that it wasn't water. Be on your guard."

"B-but what do I do!?"
"He wants something, probably from Mom. Masami, put on Belle."
"But!" I struggle against my words, "I tried texting just a second ago, and the spike grew on-"

"Masami, listen. You need to put Belle on. If you don't, he's just going to do the same to you. You need to be guarded. Do it now."

Before she can even finish the sentence, my hand darts into my pocket.
Immediately, Kaori's coat erupts into spikes.

My hand quickly grabs Belle's card and slips it over myself. The spikes slowly start to retract, but they still remain slightly ajar.
I can see the visible pain on Kaori's face. She winces as they retract slowly.

"N-Now what!?"
"I don't know."

>ASAI! WHEREEVER YOU ARE, STOP THIS!
>I'll do anything! Just quit!
>I'm gonna call Mom to come over, so just be patient you jerk!
>J-Julie, you can disassemble yourself, right? Try doing that to get out of your coat. I'll think about Kaori's

At least now that he's actively hurting our family, any of Asai's attempts at rationalizing his plots at us or pretending he knows best will be hollow.

"(Julie!)" I whisper, trying not to incur the wrath of whatever is listening in. "(You can disassemble yourself, right? Use that to get out of that coat!)"

"B-but. I'm worried, what if-"
"(Shh! No talk! Just do it! I could put on Belle and nothing happened.)"

Julie gives me a tearful nod and slowly starts feeling the sides of her arms. My gaze turns from her as to not attract too much suspicion.

Instead, it turns to the one who can't take herself apart.
"Kaori." I resist the urge to hug her really tight and tell her it'll be okay. "Can you move?"
"I can."

"Okay, okay, hold on. I'm going to think of a way to get you out, just-"

Ugh, I hate even SPEAKING that man's name right now.
"ASAI!" I scream to the air, "WHEREEVER YOU ARE, STOP THIS! I KNOW YOU WANT SOMETHING, AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IT IS RIGHT NOW!"

Silence.
Kaori stares at me with shock.
"I can't believe you just did that."
"I can't either! But I'm sure it'll work."

Silence.
It's not working.
"Asai! Show yourself, now!"

I glance over at Julie. She's got her arm out of it, and is working on getting her body out. Slowly, she moves her shoulder in a way that should not be physically possible, and another sleeve comes off. It's lightly draped over her back now.

I need a distraction. Something to make Asai come out and to make him not look at Julie while she escapes.

Something.. Something. Distractions, what can I do?

>Start singing, really badly!
>Try using another card.
>Bluff! I'm good at that, right?
>Take out my phone and threaten to dial Mom if Asai doesn't show himself.

If Julie as much as shrugs, that coat is going to fall off of her back.
After that? I'm not sure. It's not certain what will happen if Asai sees that one of his coats fell off, will he threaten Kaori? Will he try to have it re-attach itself? Will it come after ME?

I don't know the answer of these questions, right now I rather not think about them.

"Your plan, tell me now. I know you have one." Kaori says, slight annoyance in her voice.
"I'm going to pretend I have a plan!"
"No, Masami, Don't!"

"ASAI! YOU HEAR ME?!" I stomp my foot in anger. "YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME!"

Silence.

"You threaten me, you've threatened my family, you even threatened the school I go to." I brandish Belle's sword.

My eyes scan the park, scan for some volatile. Something that would make me seem way stronger than I am.
Cut down the statue? Nah.
Power lines? That would be dangerous.

I notice a set of sprinklers. Each one coming across this exact point where I'm standing.

Twirling my sword around several times, I point it upwards.
"This is a direct attack on my family. Maybe you don't think much of me, which is why I want to make it clear to you. I will send you to the depths of hell if even a hair is harmed on Kaori!"

I take the sword, with all of my might, I slam it downward into the pavement.
As if rehearsed, every single sprinkler-head in the park explodes into a fountain of water. Tiny plastic pieces rain down from above.

The noise, the sound of dozens of tiny sprinklers erupting all at once, is deafening. My ears ring momentarily, glass windows shudder from blocks away, nearby car alarms start to shriek.

Kaori's mouth is agape.
"(How long have you been able to do that!?)"
"(Shh!)"

I look over to where Julie was standing. She's gone, a misplaced layer of softened concrete rests on the sidewalk.
She got away.

"(Now what?)"

"(Where's Haruko?)" My head worriedly swivels around, searching for the red twin.
"(She left with Julie, what is your plan. Tell me now.)"

I grab her hand, the concrete seems to ignore my weight on it.
"(We get the hell out of here, of course!)"
"(Masami! Wait! What if-)"

I'm not listening!
I hoist her up into my arms, and I take off!

Asai must still be distracted, because the concrete on Kaori isn't shimmering anymore. It has the consistency of wet, dripping concrete. None of it is shimmering. I guess it only works when Asai can see it.

It.. has the consistency of wet, dripping concrete. And it's getting all over Belle's armor. Gross!
I want to take a bath! It's like I got Asai...gel. Or something, all over my armor.

It's all sticky, and wet, and cold. I hate it!

We stop inside of a parking garage, and I set Kaori down. She starts recoiling at the cold, viscous goo herself. We both start trying to push and shove the gray ichor off of her clothes.
"I wanna bathe."
"So do I.."

We both groan.

The thin layer of film on her clothes isn't coming off. It's like a little bit still wants to cling on make our lives miserable.

I take out my phone to let Mom know I'm safe.

No signal, I guess we are in a parking garage at least a hundred feet underground.
That said, I'm not sure how eager I am to run back to the surface if Asai is looking for us.

"So, what should we do? I really want to go bathe."

>I know.
>But wait! Mom! I don't want her going to where Asai is!

"I know, I want a bath too."

We both make awful faces as we try to brush the sticky concrete off of our hands.
That's when something hits me.

"MOM!" I almost dash for the exit, but something is holding me back.
"Mom what?"

"Mom was with me! I bet Julie and Haruko went to go get her, I don't want her going to Asai and falling into his trap, too!"

"Darn it Masami, you set out to PROTECT Mom, and instead you just got her in more trouble!"
"I know! I know!"

"Well, go on. Go warn her!"
"I- I can't!"
"Why!?"

"Because!" My face feels really flustered right now. "If I run away now, Asai might catch you again and put another coat on you! I don't want that happening! I need to get you to safety first, it's what Mom would want!"
"Actually." Kaori seems to be eying the stairwell intently. "You might not need to do that."
"Why!?" I say, with exasperation.

"You can come out now!" Kaori yells behind me.

I turn around to see, really nothing. What is Kaori yelling at.
"Hey! You!" She stomps her foot. "Don't act like you can't hear me! You've been following us since the park! Do you think I didn't see you?"

Slowly, something starts to shimmer in the artificial light. It's almost like the air itself is starting to materialize.

"You know." Kaori puts an edge to her voice, "You would have made things WAY WORSE if you got captured, too! What were you thinking, trailing along behind Masami without telling her."

Mir slowly fades into the visible spectrum. She has a guilty look on her face.
"(I-I don't know! I just wanted to help, that's all!)"
"Wanting to help wouldn't include putting yourself in immediate danger, what if Asai saw you?"

"Enough! Stop!" I keep both of them from fighting any further. "Mir, can you get Kaori out of here without her being seen?"
"(W-)" She stops herself, "(I can, but what about you? I came here to take you home!)"

"That has to wait. I have something to do."

And hopefully, Mom won't need saving again. Pout.
