So, uh, let's try this again. Hopefully this is a better starting time. Posting the last post from last night.Information first, you decide. Ignoring his question, you instead present to him one of your own."So you and Laura... Laura really has no idea?""No," Mark responds vehemently, shaking his head. "You really think I would tell Laura if I was so worried about you finding out?""So you're saying that Laura's a blabbermouth," you say dryly.Mark snorts. "No, I meant that this is really, really important, and that you should let me get started on the mindwiping thing before they notice that we've been gone for too long."You wave off his worries. "They're drunk and sleepy, it'll be fine. And nice try, but you're not getting anywhere near my head."Before he can respond, you continue. "Anyways, what's with the spikes coming out of your back? You realize you've got holes in your shirt now, right?"Mark tugs at his shirt and mutters a curse word. "You don't need to know," he says stubbornly. You take a closer look at him. The spines grew either during or after you were beating him up, but they seem to have stopped growing now. Two are around his shoulder blades, and one seems to be coming from his tailbone and poking up from beneath waist of his jeans. You try to get a better look, but he just frowns and scoots to face you.(1/2)
Mark is getting restless and looks like he's about to say something. You realize that you should probably do something and either knock him out or try to convince him. You're reluctant to continue with the physical violence, however, as he has been your good friend so far and Laura really seems to like him. Comparing how studious and uptight Laura was in high school to the way she's opened up now, Mark's relationship with her might not be so bad.Still, he is some kind of seduct...tress? er? You can't completely trust what he's saying. You consider calling Susan, but the thought of running to her for every issue leaves a bad taste in your mouth. You're not going to be much of an agent if you can't take care of yourself, and besides, this issue seems to be within your capabilities to handle.>Tell him what you are and attempt to convince him>Don't tell him what you are and attempt to convince him>Restrain him and call Susan anyways>Other (Write-in)

"Hey," you say, startling him out of whatever he was going to do. "That's not really fair, is it? You're the one who got us into this mess, and now you're want to attempt an untested method of giving me amnesia? What if I forget my name or how to walk or something? How are you going to explain that?"Mark blanches at the thought. "It's more like hypnosis," he mutters to himself. "You would have been fine. Probably.""And suppose you try to force your mindwipe on me," you continue. "What are you going to do? Try to fight me again? It's pretty obvious that whatever you were trying to charm me with isn't really working anymore."Mark mutters something again, in a lower voice, and you hear something that sounds suspiciously like "wasn't transformed", but you don't bring it up in case he gets paranoid about that information too."Sooo, anyways, how about we just forget about this and move on?" you offer, extending a hand. "I won't pry, and we can pretend this never happened. It's not like you do this kind of thing regularly... right?""No, no," Mark says quickly. "Of course not. It would be weir..." He trails off. "Okay, it might explain why a teacher changed my essay grade to an A when I went to talk to her in person, but other than that... no?""That's totally not fair.""Accidents happen?"(1/2)
You shake your head and sigh. "Anyways, your decision?"Mark looks up at you with his dark green eyes as he slowly rises. "Alright," he says, taking your hand in a firm grip and pulling himself up. "I'm not going to try to push anything onto you, but I'm going to have to tell my... um... people," he amends weakly."Are you seriously telling me there are more of you?" you ask. "Why would you do that?"Mark smacks himself in a face before dragging his palms down his cheeks. "Forget I said that.""Don't worry, I was going to assume that anyways," you reassure him. "But if you tell them that I know, they're not going to send, like, hitmen after me, right?"Mark looks uncomfortable. "Probably not? Anybody have any ideas what Mark is? hypnosis, charm, spines and a transformation into what I imagine is a true form or something...
>>43875156Might be something exotic. It's also been a while since last thread so I dunno how much I can remember of the details. Those traits don't ring any bells though.
"Okay, before we do anything else, you want to tell me why you guys are being so secretive? And if you guys are really that concerned about information getting out, how did you even mess up that badly? Wouldn't they train you to use whatever powers you have?""They do!" Mark responds vehemently. "But... you're right. I messed up. Like, really badly. That's I kind of panicked, I guess, and went for the mindwipe before trying to talk to you first."You place a look of disappointment on your face. "Look, you're doing a really bad job making up for that weird seduction stuff," you point out, "and now I have to worry about some kind of shadowy organization coming after me? Really?""I—""Mark, I'm already keeping this secret for you. It's only fair that you keep the fact that I'm keeping this secret from whoever you were going to go talk to." He doesn't look completely convinced, so you try to up the pressure. "If you tell them, they're just going to get annoyed with you and try to mindwipe me anyways. We keep your mistake a secret, you won't look bad, and I don't have to worry about being kidnapped and seduced and forgetting how to talk.""But—"You make yourself look self-righteously angry. "And seriously, if you're not going to give up on this I can escalate further too—and neither of us is going to like it very much.""Alright, alright, I get it," Mark says, taking a step back and holding his hands up in surrender. He rolls his eyes at you. "Geez, I don't think I've seen you get this serious before."(1/2)
You stick your tongue out at him. "I'd like to keep my mental faculties intact, thank you very much. So do we have a deal?""Yeah," Mark says earnestly. "I should have realized it earlier, but you're not normal either, are you? You not affected by me, and you say you've got people backing you up."Right, the membranes you made in your nose and throat. Either they worked, or your body is dealing with the chemicals he's giving off in another way. It might be good for you to look up how gas masks work when you're able to."Or you're gay," he says jokingly when you don't respond."No comment," you tell him."To—""To either," you say, laughing."I would say something about that not being fair, but then you'd just tell me it was my fault in the first place," Mark concedes. The two of you take a moment to brush yourself off and make yourselves presentable for when you get back. The spines have receded, you notice, and Mark doesn't seem to be injured at all in the way in he walks or talks. You're not sure whether you even injured him in the first place, whether he has regeneration, or if he's just sucking it up.Now that the two of your are still alone, you wonder if there's anything else you want to ask him, despite telling him that you weren't going to pry.(2/2)>No, you're fine, time to head back before the others get worried. "Can't tell, but I'm probably fine."You nod. "So, uh, how are things going with Laura?"And from his expression you realize that was probably not the best thing to say."We've got... issues," Mark says, sighing. "I've got my..." --The trip back is uneventful. You find yourself in front of the dorm room, bracing for the worst as you knock on the door.It takes a few moments, but the faint singing from the room finally stops. Something impacts the door, hard, making you jerk back, before it slowly opens. There's a thud as Chloe falls onto her bottom and scoots back to lean against the bed."Hey guys," she slurs, saluting you with a cup before taking a drink.Laura is on the bed, her head propped up in her palms as she gazes at Mark and smiles. Alice has passed out on the floor—which is good, you suppose, because the two of you were supposedly going to drive to Alice's place in a couple of hours. Liza is idly spinning a dice on the abandoned board game before she turns to look at you."Feeling better?" Liza asks the two of you."Yeah," you and Mark respond. You check the time. It's nearly 4am. Maybe you should get Chloe to stop drinking and think about heading back to your own dorms. "We should probably get going," you decide reluctantly. "Alice and I have places to be tomorrow.""Aww," Chloe whines, scooting over to where your sitting. "Please stayyy."She wraps her arms around you and looks up at you with what you suppose is her attempt at puppy eyes. Her sky blue irises, pale skin, and dark black ponytail make for an appealing combination, but you refuse to be swayed as you resist her advances and simultaneously snatch the cup out of her hand."Nope. Also, bad Chloe," you scold her. "You're going throw up everywhere if you keep drinking.""B-but I'm fine," she whimpers, pawing at the arm holding her beloved cup.You hear Laura giggling in the background, where Mark is sitting with her on the bed. She's currently sitting on his lap and leaning into him, and you hope that they're talking their issues out. Liza is looking on with a smile."You're going to regret this when you wake up," you warn her, but Chloe has abandoned her efforts and is now crawling, albeit slowly, to where the bottle of liquor is.Before she can pick it up, though, Mark snatches it up. "I'll take care of her, Rachel," he says. "Go sleep so you don't miss whatever you need to do tomorrow.""I'm going to head back too," Liza says, standing up. "Thanks for the party, guys. It was fun." She smirks. "I'll leave two lovebirds with Chloe, try not to get too distracted."Mark laughs. "See you guys after break," Laura says, suddenly piping up. "Have a safe trip home!"You nudge Alice awake and prop her up onto you shoulder before bidding farewell to the others. The last thing you see before Liza closes the door for you is Chloe lunging for the bottle as Mark raises it just barely out of her reach.(1/2)
Alice's limp body is surprisingly heavy as you prop her up. Liza offers to help, and the two of you share the burden as you help Alice back to your dorm. She's mostly out of it, her feet barely even touching the ground, and you really hope she drank enough water to prevent most of the hangover when she wakes up.(2/2)>Anything you want to ask Liza? Well, now that you have the time, you decide to ask Liza a few questions. It seems that she wasn't able to get very drunk during the party, and you suspect that it may be have been due to her new status as a zombie. Perhaps something to make a note of, to tell... what was the name of that overly enthusiastic researcher at the bureau? Sabrina? That was probably it."Hey Liza," you say softly, careful not to disturb Alice too much. "The alcohol not doing much for you?"Liza shakes her head and whispers back just as softly. "It works for a few minutes, and then I just digest it all or something.""Hmmm... Maybe we can find you an alternative to alcohol or something," you suggest. "The amount you need to drink to stay drunk for a few hours would be enormous. And expensive. And on that note, I feel bad for making Chloe buy all of those drinks by herself.""Same," Liza agrees. "We can get her something later." She bites her lip thoughtfully before suddenly turning to you. "Wait, are you suggesting that I do drugs?""I...well, I guess that's one way," you say slowly. "I was thinking some more like... I don't know, video games?""Drugs are bad, mmkay? And besides, I can't afford them." Liza thinks for a moment. "Maybe I could do rock climbing or something. Get an adrenaline high. I'd be good at it, too.""Maybe try avoiding any, ah, displays, in public?" you suggest. "Would be kind of weird for a girl to show up for the first time and destroy the existing records.""Pshh, it'll be fine," she says. "I'll just pretend to suck for the first few weeks and slowly get better.""You could climb an actual mountain instead," you point out."And test my toughness by slipping and seeing if I die from being splattered? No thanks."(1/2)
The two of you continue this banter as you make your way to the dorms. No one sees you lugging a drunken Alice around, as most people have already long since gone home for the break, and Liza parts ways with you after Alice wakes up a little more by the time you get to your dorm building.Once you've put Alice to bed and made sure Alice is fine and not about to throw up in her sleep, you brush your teeth and lie in bed, too. Before you sleep, however, you realize that the membranes around in your nasal and oral passages are still there, and you wonder if you should dismiss them. They're getting a little uncomfortable, and it should be easy enough to make them again when you need to, preferably with a bit more knowledge about gas masks and how they work the next time you do so.The unevenly hardened patches of skin around your fists are still there, along with the slight muscle enhancements you gave yourself. Your sense of smell is also disabled from when you did so during your fight with Mark. You suppose you should decide before you go to sleep which ones to disable in order to reduce the upkeep costs for them.(2/2)>Remove/Restore all these changes>Keep hardened skin>Keep shut off sell>Keep filtering membranes>Keep slight muscle enhancements>Other? All of the them aside form the muscle improvements should go, you decide. The hardened skin is a little too noticeable, the sense of smell being lost is too detrimental, and the membrane too uncomfortable.Once they're removed, wisps of power return to your reservoir. You take stock of it and notice that it has increased by a small fraction overall, which you realize—based upon the odd way it seems to work—must have come from you winning the argument with Mark and forcing him to stay quiet.Did you enjoy that? You wonder. Well, in any case, it seems that your power thought you did.You curl yourself deeper into your blankets, take out your phone, and start reading up on gas masks before you fall asleep.(1/2)
--The next morning comes with a delightful lack of any sort of hangover, although you're not sure what a hangover feels like exactly since you haven't gotten one before in the past. It's around noon at the moment. Your phone shows a number of texts from your parents asking about when you would be leaving for Alice's place and where it was.You text them back the address, referencing what you had stored in your phone after Alice told you where her house was, and tell them that you'll be heading out soon after lunch.Alice, unfortunately, has not woken up yet, so you take the time to quickly look up what kind of drinks would be good for hangovers. Apparently sports drinks are good, as is plenty of water, so you grab the drinks from the fridge and fill up the pitcher you share with Alice with fresh water from the fountain in the hallway.Alice still hasn't woken up yet by the time you finish your morning ablutions, so you debate waking her up so you can get to her house before sunset. It's a 3-4 hour drive, and the sun is going to set in around 5PM. You could also take the time to make any more preparations of your own, although you've already got the clothes packed, your bike light just in case, your electronics, and the toiletries you need. You packed for the whole break and everything fits into a suitcase and your backpack anyways.(2/2)>Wake Alice up>Pack some more stuff (Write-in)>Other? (Write-in)

Oh, make sure to bring anything that ties us to Susan & Co and our disposable phone (if it wasn't already packed), just in case someone decides to break in while we're away.

Can we just carry Alice to the car and start driving?I have a feeling she won't be the most engaging passenger anyway.

>>43880996Well, it's Alice's SUV. We'll probably be the one to drive, considering how Alice is probably going to be really hungover, but we should still get her permission first.
>>43881230I GUESS.How much driving experience does Rachel have anyway?
>>43881422Not much, she mostly just took some lessons and passed the test and got the license when she hit 18.
>>43881506Well, let's hope she can handle an SUV then.
You make sure you have your work cell phone on you along with the disposable phone you used and anything else that might be incriminating. You never know if someone might break into your room during the winter break, and considering that supernatural things are real it might be best to be a little paranoid. Maybe not to the level of Mark or his people's paranoia, although you're starting to wonder if that might be necessary. There's a small box of bandaids that you nearly forgot about on the top shelf in the closet, completely untouched. You grab that and manage to shove it into your backpack.Alice still isn't awake, so you decide to wake her up. It takes some shoulder tapping and then shaking, but she eventually wakes up, groggy and none too happy. You help her sit up and brush her hair out of her face, then hand her the sports drink and then the water in succession. She seems to realize what you're trying to do and chugs the drink and takes a few gulps of water, then lets herself go slack against your arm and close her eyes again."Okay, I'm ready," she says after a minute, opening her eyes and taking a deep breath. "What time is it?""About half-past twelve," you tell her. "I wanted to let you sleep longer, but it's going to get dark by the time we get there if we head out later.""Right, the sun sets super early now," Alice says, sliding off the bed and yawning. "Damn, my head of kind of hurts.""Want me to drive?" you offer. "I've got a license, although I don't have that much experience. I did practice and pass the driving test with my family's SUV back home, though.""...Sure," Alice says. "I'll just take a nap in the car then, if that's alright.""Go for it," you tell her.(1/2)
Alice, similarly to you, has packed her laptop into her backpack and has a rolling suitcase with everything else inside. After Alice washes up and brushes her teeth, the two of you head out into the bright noon day, the wind a bit chilly, and begin the longish trek to the school parking lot.--"You want to stop somewhere for lunch?" you ask Alice, slamming the trunk shut."Nope." She's already opening the door and sliding into the front passenger seat. "I'm just going to sleep until we get there. You can stop somewhere if you want."You enter the car, taking the keys from Alice's proffered hands and starting the engine. "I'll be fine," you say. "Let's just get there before it gets dark."Alice nods, pulls out a pair of sunglasses from the glovebox, and promptly goes to sleep.(2/2)>Roll 1d100, best of three, for how well the short road trip goes>Anything you want to do on the way there? >>43882653Why do you hate Alice anon!?
>>43882704I propose such horrible things not out of hate, anon, but out of love. For it is our obligation, our duty as her friend, to teach her the truly horrible consequences of overindulgence.
Nothing eventful occurs during the trip, although you do keep an eye out for any suspicious cars following you.Thinking about it though, unless someone has been tracking you somehow or monitoring all of the school exits, it feels highly unlikely that anyone could or would have been following you. Maybe if magic was a thing, they might have had a tracking spell or something, but Sabrina did tell you that they haven't seen evidence for actual magic. Even Summer said something about nanobots or whatever, and Liza's zombieness and Mark's weirdness seems to have a basis in the physical world. So yeah. Probably not magical tracking. The roads are quite easy to drive on, often going off into the distance as a straight line in one or two lanes. Sometimes there are trucks that block off entire lanes and drive incredibly slowly, but the main danger is you falling asleep at the wheel out of sheer boredom. You turn on the radio and keep it at a low enough volume so that it doesn't wake Alice up and manage to stay awake for the entire drive. When you see the beginnings of the town ahead of you, the sun is still just barely up above the horizon, the sky tinted orange and red. Alice wakes up after a few shakes and removes her sunglasses before yawning and rubbing her eyes.(1/2)
"You wanna drop off our stuff first or go eat first?" Alice asks. "Traffic is okay at this time, so it shouldn't take too long either way."You're feeling a bit tired not only physically but also mentally from driving for nearly four straight hours, so it might be better to get dinner first. You tell Alice this, and she agrees, as she hasn't eaten for the entire day either. It's about six o'clock when you finally arrive at her house, having eaten a large meal at a nice Mexican (or at least it sounded Mexican) restaurant. The house is an average two-story suburban house, with a front porch and large windows facing the street along with a spacious driveway and garage. The lawn looks neat and well-maintained, although a bit yellow due to the ongoing drought. The two of you grab your luggage and proceed to the front steps, where Alice rings the doorbell and waits for a few seconds with a hopeful look on her face. No one answers, so she pulls out a set of keys and unlocks the door, ushering you inside. The interior is just as neat as you expected it to be, and there are a few pictures of Alice and the person who is presumably her father above the fireplace. In the pictures her father looks to be clean-shaven, with a strong jawline and a buzzcut. They're both holding hunting rifles in the picture with what seems to be a deer in front of them. You don't examine the picture too closely, in case it gets awkward."So, um, this is my house," Alice says. "Feel free to eat whatever's in the fridge. Pitcher's on the counter, and help yourself to the fruit and stuff."You nod. "Thanks."(2/2)>Ask about she was planning to do over the break>Ask about her father>Ask her about the picture>Let her go do her own stuff, and you can go chill with your laptop and rest until tomorrow morning>Other?
