Previously, our young protagonist was captured by a lycans and his pack as they fled the scene of the Ranger camp, now in ruins after the magical explosion set off by Mona the witch. Because of the explosion, Mona has been robbed of her ability to feel intense emotion.

Now, they awake in the camp of a Paladin of the Heavenly God and his party.
>>
You awake to the sounds of movement and murmuring. Shadows play across the walls of your tent, moving here and there as the camp is broken down around you and breakfast is prepared. To your side, Mona lies quietly snoring.

You reach out and shake Mona awake. Her eyes open lazilly, and dart around the room, settling on you. She sits up, fixes her hair, and leaves the tent silently. You follow.

Outside the smell of Oatmeal and honey is strong, and you are able to see the business of your hosts. The inquisitor and cleric work to break up the camp, while the squire and knight assist the Paladin in donning his armor. In only his lower parts, you are able to see a padded jacket and gloves, all woven from fine fabric.

"Ah! Good morning ladies! Food will be served shortly, please make yourselves comfortable l."

"Or help get these fucking tents...urgh...broken."

"Lancel! Do not burn these poor girls ears with your foul mouth! And do not presume to callous their hands with a soldier's work!"

The inquisitor scoffs, but continues working.

Hearing you speak this way about Roland seems to disappoint Lancel.

"If all of then were, the kingdom wouldn't be in such disarray. Of the twelve, he is by and large the most willing to fall upon a spike for his charges. He's done it before. The others, while some are kind enough, took the position nearly universally out of political ambition. Only he did it with others in mind."

"There are twelve orders of holy Knights in the Church of the Heavenly God. Each is headed by a Paladin. He is both the youngest, and ironically the most seasoned in combat. He chose to start as a simple footman, despite his advantages. This afforded him an experience few officers have, fighting together with enlisted troops. He's been to the cold coast, during the campaign, to reclaim the fishing grounds. A quagmire of a boondoggle. Thousands killed, all so the rich could have the choice of filet. After that, he vowed to serve not the governmet, but her peoples." Lancel seems truly moved. "All beneath him are loyal to a fault. Certainly that boy is. Sometimes I worry he'd let himself be ripped asunder just to be of some use to Roland. But, I digress."

You finish breaking the camp and gather around the fire. As you sit around the cook pot, you are doled out thick spoonfuls of oatmeal. The texture is decent, but the blend of seasoning makes it a treat. You glance over at Mona, and see her listlessly playing with her food more than eating it.

"Porridge. Always porridge. Hm."

Roland leans over to whisper to you.

"My lady, is your companion quite alright?"

"Sir, we do have our own goals to consider."

"Nonsense! We cannot allow ourselves to become so single minded in our pursuits of a greater good that we neglect those who we are sworn to defend. This girl has seen things that haunt her, and if I might let her rest easily with my own efforts, then it is my chivalrous duty to do so!"

What's the problem? She's a witch who spent most of her life living in some old perv's place. I'm trained with daggers that can open your throat in a second, after drinking the blood of some monster that turned me into something more than human. Together we betrayed and genocided my renegade cult and comrades that oppose the church, thanks to a pact with a demon. The demon stole her capacity for love, and we need that back to rekindle our gay relationship in this middle ages era, Any questions?

You ask Roland his opinion on witches. He considers it briefly.

"Well, the old stories say that the Earthly God's bride was a fertility goddess and a witch. She was also a protector of children. If a witch were like her, I suppose I'd have no quarrel. However, I've also heard a tale of a mighty sorcerer and his consort, a witch. They say he burned an entire city to the ground, simply with a snap of his fingers. They supposedly made love in the ashes, conceiving a fire elemental. I've never seen a fire elemental, but someone like that I could never tolerate. So, I suppose I'd have to know them by their actions before I judged them."

You tell Roland the truth, and he is shocked. He stands, and paces about the camp wordlessly for a minute before seeming to decide his course of action.

"That a pure hearted girl could be so wickedly cursed simply for the sake of her true love. This is an offense I cannot stand for! My ladies, if I may, I will not rest until we know the solution to your plight. I will wrest Lady Mona's burning passion from the hands of the Blackfire God myself, if that is what needs be done! THIS I SWEAR!"

Roland's voice booms, sending hedge birds up to the sky.

"We will escort you both to the city. I can allow you access to the church's library. It is not a fantasy to think they may be in possession of a demonic and diabolical compendium. That will be the start of our search." Roland approaches, and takes one of each of your hands. "Dread not, ladies. I, Roland, will see that your pure, untainted love blossoms again."

You make smalltalk with the group, learning about recentry events in town, until coming to a man made river, diverting water to the city, with a footbridge. Standing at the apex is a rather large and unwashed man with a dao slung over his shoulder. He stops you from advancing.

"Morning, travellers. Spare a few coins for a wandering monk?"

Before you have a chance to answer, Roland is moving toward him with purse in hand and a smile on his face.

Roland dashes back to the scuffle, but the brigand is a more lethal adversary than one would imagine, and in moment he has torn through the cleric and lopped off the hand of the inquisitor.

"Squire! My Blinding Sun!" Roland shouts ferociously. The squire snaps out of his fear induced stunned state and begins digging around in his pack. He bring from it a bastaRd sword in its sheath, which Roland grabs, nearly knocking the boy over with his momentum. As the steel slides free, the brigands kicks the inquisitor, knocking him unconscious.

With the knife to his neck, you choke him until his face turns blue and he drifts off, at which point you release him.

Roland, beeeding, rushes to help his companions. The inquisitor is treated, and the squire given leave to rest. Mona knows little of first aid, but she does her best.

Burn the bodies, and collect the ashes. Their families will want the remains."
