The Story So Far: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=hellborn
1-50 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/DYy8w24r
51-100 Thread Summary: http://pastebin.com/wx3HtRT5

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are the Imperiate – the one true tyrant of the thousand hells. That is, if you can survive long enough to reclaim your inheritance.

In order to ensure you’re kickass enough to take your varied enemies head on, you’ve decided to rush forward with operation mad gains. Tonight, you and a motely crew of your selection will telezap into Canada. There you’ll go tripping over to the shores of Lake Superior to claim the anchor node of an elemental spirit, and master its power as your own.

Borislav Zerevskii, Muir Woods’ resident druid, had ordered you to chill the hell out before your showdown with the ancient elemental. But in order to achieve ultimate inner peace of mind, you must confront disconcerting relationship developments that have... you know. Developed. Between you and Wolfgang. So yeah.

--

You glance over at the happy people chilling out over in the leafy depths of the park, and spot a few couples picnicking out in the sun, engaging in food eating and normal people boring stuff. You suddenly feel a vague, unsettling impression.

You tear your attention back to your phone, and reply to Wolf as to where he’s supposed to meet up with you. “Im on orders to take it ez come by my house,” you text.

Immediately after sending the text, your discomfort increases, and you pocket your phone away so you don’t have to look at his reply. You quickly mount your motorcycle again, and power back off into traffic to escape the nebulous uncertainty in your stomach.

--

You come into the house, helmet and coat under arm. The faint scent of sizzling hamburger hangs in the air, and you find Cassandra and Harvey chatting away in the kitchen.

“Where’s the meat?” you ask, your body remembering its lack of eating anything today.
>>
>>43799509

Harvey gives one of the pans on the stove a shake, shuffling about the cut onions within. “You were up early,” he comments, setting down the pan and beginning to turn around to look at you.

“Harv!” Cass grabs his shoulder with a hand, stopping him just short of knocking all the cookery aside with his wings.

Your sort-of brother recognizes the narrowly averted catastrophe with a look of shock, but he quickly hides his embarrassment behind a pro-level poker face.

“I can literally feel you freaking out inside,” you tell Harvey to his nonchalant face. “Joke’s on you.”

Cassandra smiles. “You’re just in time for lunch,” she says. “Dad’s out in the back working on the hamburgers.”

You suck down the spit already pooling in your mouth. Food’s probably an important component of not stressing out tonight.

But then there’s the whole thing about having to tell Isaac and Cass about your bold, and possibly reckless plans. Not to mention you didn’t think everybody’d be here just yet, with Wolfgang coming over. You didn’t want this to be a whole thing, you wanted quiet.
>>
>>43799514

Not to mention, you’ve mostly kept Wolf to yourself for the duration of your relationship, because it’s kind of weird being around the snake-tongued guy you want to make out with, while simultaneously being around your family people. Also your dad person scares the crap out of him, so Wolf’s kind of on the same page as you? (+3 Stress: 35)

Words draw you out of your brain space.

“What’s up kiddo?” Cassandra asks you, wiping her hands off on a towel. “You look like you’re freaking out about something.”

Stupid Cassandra and her stupid angel telepathy.

Of course, there’s a lot worth freaking out over, you could throw one of those excuses under the bus easy. Like the fact the Yellow King served you an eviction notice. Or that some Nazi lady who knew your dad might be working with him. Or that it’s not just Sulkrasph, but a sparsely described Cadwynn guy who wants you dead.

Or you could just throw Wolf under the bus instead. But that kind of feels like throwing yourself under the bus too.

> Chill, Cass. You’re the one always freaking out about whether or not I’m freaking out.
>Nothing much. Just the fact a million people want to kill me right now.
>Blame the Nazi woman.
>Do we have enough stuff for one more person? Cause I got somebody coming over.
>I’m just really really busy today. Plans and whatever. Probably going to eat and run, if that’s okay.
>Well you see, the thing is, like, I’m kind of doing this thing tonight, but Borya’s going to help, so it’s not going to be that bad.

“Oh what, besides the million people trying to kill me right now?” you ask, feeling a pinch in your chest.

“Huh. Didn’t know that kind of thing bothered you that much,” Harvey jokes.

“We’re all with you on this, Sierra,” says Cassandra. “There’s a million people with the good guys too. Just try to keep that in mind.”

You snort. “Yeah, that’s great,” you say.

They seemed to have bought the ruse. You’re scott-free.

But... what if Wolf showed up right now? He could, you know, any second, and then they’d see him, and they’d see you sneaking off with him. You can’t just not tell them Wolfgang’s coming. You’re meeting him here. And then if you didn’t tell Cass, then she’d get it in her mind that you’re being all sneaky and weird, and there’d be awkward vibes.

Or maybe Wolf would get weird vibes from you, if you acted like you were trying to keep him away from the Hallows. Like hey, you like him enough to do sex with him, but you don’t like him enough to let your family see him. Like, you’d rather keep everything between you and him, so you know, when you want to get rid of him, it’s easy because nobody asks questions. And then he’d be all like, wondering if you wanted to talk to him about that instead of whatever else.

You kick the edge of the doorway, sort of just because it’s there. “Do we have enough stuff for one more person?” Cause I got somebody coming over,” you say, keeping your tone casual.

“Sure,” says Cassandra. But then she makes a face. “But you’re not talking about Ranthix, are you?”
>>
>>43800280

“Uh. No?”

“Great. How’d Mori like the trip, anyway?” she asks.

“Fine?” you say, her comment flustering you. “But she’s not coming over. It’s Wolfgang. Her brother. You know. Cause the barbeque, or whatever.” Yeah, that’s what you did.

Cass seems pleased with this news. “Oh, huh? Well it’s exciting to finally meet him. I don’t think we’ve talked with Wolfgang for more than two minutes in a row, with how you keep that boy to yourself.”

Ugh. You don’t want some big chat thing with Wolf, you want private conversation so you can figure things out between the two of you. Why is everything so complicated?

>Can you like, please not really talk to him that much though right now? Like I’ll have him over some other time and we can do the whole meet the boyfriend thing.
>What the heck are you talking about? I don’t keep him to myself. He’s his own person.
>Yeah, but if Isaac wasn’t so... I mean if Wolf wasn’t so shy, you know. Like wolves are.
>I’m uh... going to go check on Isaac and that meat.
>Well it’s just the thing is, that uh, we have this thing, so he and me – us – we’re probably only staying for two minutes, so yeah.

You need to cut the whole parentals thing short. You don’t have time to get worked up over dumb crap. “Well, it’s just the thing is that uh, we have this thing, so he and me – us – we’re probably only staying for two minutes, so yeah,” you explain to Cassandra, feeling that tenseness in your chest tighten. (+4 Stress: 37)

“Wolfgang’s welcome to stay longer if he wants,” says Cass. “I can be a cool mom. I promise I won’t ask too many weird embarrassing questions.”

You guess there is something to the fact Cassandra has no naked pictures of you as a baby. But there’s still the thing about how you don’t want anybody guessing things about you and Wolf until you know what those things actually are.

You edge out of the kitchen. “I’m uh.... going to check on Isaac and that meat,” you say, escaping in due order.

Man, you’re getting all high-strung and worked up about this. You need to chill. You take a deep breath and give yourself a shake to get a hold of yourself. (-2 Stress: 35) It’s not bad for the Hallows to sit down and chat with Wolfgang. He’s cool. They’re cool. You’re cool. Everything’s cool. It’s not like they’ll know you totally got real action last night, in the most figurative sense possible.

You try to get the thoughts out of your head as you head out into the backyard.

Rowan reclines at the table, running a whetstone down the length of Aleopher, her magic angel sword. To the side of the yard, Isaac’s grilling it up, dressed to kill. And by dressed to kill, you mean he’s wearing jeans and a checkered shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbow. And he’s even got the shirt tucked in.
>>
>>43801078

Rowan yawns at the sight of you – her eyes have circles under them.

You snicker at him. “That’s some straight 50’s fire,” you say.

“A good look doesn’t change,” he replies, keeping his eyes on the beef patties with undo vigilance. Isaac is undisputed master of the grill. None can challenge.

The sight, sound, and smell of cooking beef is often underappreciated, but not today. You bask in the experience for a couple seconds.

>So, funny story, I met this Hildegard Nazi lady down in Muir today.
>What’s the whole deal with the barbeque thing again? I feel like I missed a memo.
>Wolf’s coming over, so throw a couple more on there while you’re at it. Cause we’re going to be in a hurry, or whatever.
>I’m dying here. Spot me a patty.
>I didn't mean it like that. You look really nice and stuff. Like an anti-hipster.
>Wow Ro, you look terribler than usual.
> Uh. Not to get you out of the groove or anything, Isaac, but could I grab you for a second?

But you cannot bask forever. You want more. “Spot me a patty, I’m dying here,” you say.

“Cooked or uncooked?” asks Isaac, twirling his spatula in hand.

“Cooked,” you say. There’s not enough blood for the raw to be worth it. Steaks though, sweet mercy.

Your dad-person slicks a patty off the end, and offers it up to your eager claws. You chew off about half of it. “Could you like, throw a couple more on there?” you ask. “Cause I guess like Wolf’s coming over and we’ll be in a hurry or whatever.”

“How is Wolfgang doing?” asks Isaac. “Haven’t seen that kid in weeks.”

“We were gone on the road,” says Rowan, sitting up a little in her chair as she sharpens her sword – or maybe just grinds old filth off it. “No Sierra here to lure him into the open.”

Isaac considers this with grim seriousness. “That would explain it,” he says, as if embarrassed he hadn’t thought of it first.
>>
>>43801112
I'll take everything, but do mention the need to add stuff to turn into charcoal.

Also, didn't Isaac hear that grilled meat is totally cance-cargic-makes cancer? You can help him out with that, by sacrificing yourself for the good of your family.
>>
>>43801804

“So what’s all this funk I hear about you last night?” Ro asks you. “Last I saw you, you gave Harvey wings and ran upstairs. Then you go and snap some demon’s neck in the dead of night? Did Ranthix sneak in and grab you when I looked the other way or what? Where were you all night?”

Isaac glances over. You did tell him the details about the whole neck-snapping business, but you left out pretty much all the details before that moment.

One question is too many about what happened last night.

>Just went out for a ride. Had to clear my head after all that landwell catch-em-all business.
>I called Ranthix and he told me stuff was up, so I just laid low until, you know, whatever.
>Pfft, where wasn’t I? Had to figure out what Waldric had been up to. Almost thought he’d turned traitor or something.

>Yeah, I’d rather not talk about last night. I’m trying to have a chill day right now.

“Had to figure out what was going on with Waldric. But let’s not talk about last night,” you say, wincing inwardly. “I’m trying to have a chill day right now. I’ll tell you later.” So many secrets. Or just one really, really big secret. (42 Stress)

“One chill day, coming right up,” says Rowan, rolling her eyes.

Isaac goes back to the burgers, but you can feel his concern. He knows that Hassatur’s guy talked to you, so he probably knows you were at the beach at some point. You didn’t really go into detail when you were talking to him about it this morning.

You glance back at Rowan. You can tell her though. But not right now. Because right now you have to talk about other things.

You step up to Isaac’s side. “Uh. Not to get you out of the groove or anything, but could I grab you for a second?” you ask.

He perceives something serous in your tone, and nods to Rowan. “Would you keep an eye on the platoon for a second, Rowan?” he asks, pointing to the grill.

Ro scoffs, and makes no visible effort to move. “Sure thing,” she says flatly.

Isaac sighs, and you lead him inside into the family room, out of sight.

And then it’s just you and Isaac.

“What’s this about?” he asks, tense with the situation. He knows that when you want to talk privately, you have bad news.

There’s no easy way around it, so you tackle it head on. “So uh. Me and Borislav were talking,” you say. “I decided I’m beating the crap out of that elemental tonight. And he told me I needed to find my Zen place, so I’m trying to take today slow.”

He doesn’t take the news in a good mood. “Tonight?” asks Isaac, disbelieving. “The Superior well is in Canada. How in the heck are you going to Canada tonight?”

“Well, I was going to go portal over there and you know.”

“You have a well in Saskatchewan and a well in Pennsylvania,” he says. “Lake Superior a good day’s drive away from either.”

“Is it? It didn’t seem that far off from the Sand Hills one,” you say.
>>
>>43802316

“You won’t even have a car with you to make the drive after you teleport over,” he tells you, his expression unsmiling. “Sierra, you’re dealing with powerful, dangerous forces here. You can’t just rush in without thinking things through.”

Isaac’s rebuke gets under your skin more than you’d like to admit. (+4 Stress: 46)

>Borislav can help me out. It’s not like I’m helpless, I’ve got freaking Imperiate blood.
>Well what of it? You got a better idea? I’m doing the best with what I’ve got.
>So it’s a bit of a drive. We’ll rent a car, whatever. We only have to go one way, we can teleport back from Superior.

"Isaac, I understand that you are nervous about this, and I am glad that you care, but I have to seek more power, to protect myself and you guys."
>>
“So what, it’s a bit of a drive,” you say dismissively. “We’ll rent a car, whatever. It’s only one way, we can teleport back from Superior.”

“That’s not what I’m worried about,” says Isaac. “You didn’t even look at a map before coming to me with this. I don’t want you setting yourself up to fail.”

“Well, not doing this is setting myself up to fail,” you counter. “I mean, you won’t always be around to protect me. We’ve seen that. And maybe I should have looked at google maps or whatever, but this is my best bet to stay on par with the bad guys. If it was on the other side of the earth, I’d hike there on foot if that’s what it took to keep you guys safe.”

Isaac rubs his forehead, mulling over the situation. “You’re doing the right thing for the right reasons, but I’m not sure rushing blindly ahead is the right way,” he says.

>What’s ‘the right way’ then? Cause I’d seriously like to know.
>It’s not like I’m going at this thing alone. Borislav’s coming. And I’ll probably grab Ranthix while I’m at it, why not. And whoever else I can think of.

>C’mon. Trust me on this. I can handle fights I pick. What worries me are the fights that pick me.

Do this as sincerely as we can, coupled with

We didn't prepare at all. There's no reason we couldn't have just done this when we first found the thing.

“What is ‘the right way’ then?” you ask, trying not to come off sarcastic. “I’d seriously like to know.”

“We take the time to study this thing, figure out what we’re dealing with. You have to know what you’re up against,” replies Isaac. “That’s what separates people from animals and monsters – we operate higher than base instinct and first impressions.”

You shake your head. “You said yourself there’s not much time before something big happens. Maybe it’s not the best way to do things, but it’s the only way I’ve got. Studying doesn’t help if Hassatur gets the drop on me outside the library before I can put my brains to work,” you tell him. “So maybe it’s not the best way to do things, but it’s the only way I can count on right now.”

Isaac puts his hands on his hips, his brow furrowing. “I don’t like you taking all these risks,” he says. “Roll enough dice and you’ll get snake eyes. There’s too many unknowns, too many things left to chance.”

“C’mon,” you say, knocking your knuckles against his arm. “Trust me on this. I can handle the fights I pick. What worries me are the fights that pick me. It’s not like I’ll be on my own, either. Borislav’s coming, and whoever else I want.”

He nods at this, thoughtful. “Then I’m coming with you too,” he says, “for if things get out of hand. Not that they will – Lord knows you had enough of that last year.”

That catches you off guard.

And then you hear a knock at the front door – a Wolf-patented pattern.

If we did it then, we could have put our friends' lives at risk. If not Ro and Xan, then certainly Mori and Vik.

Plus we got Bori's opinion and aid.

"Hey, that's Wolf, um, he's scared of you so maybe try acting like you aren't ready to kill him at a moment's notice, no, wait, that might just make him suspicious, shit-"

Drop the spaghetti. Drop it everywhere.

Answer the door, dummy.

>>Say stuff (?) Isaac, you being there is going to give the exact opposite of zen. If you ever got hurt like, like what happened with Ro...

Hug Isaac quick and say "Thanks Dad", being awkward as fuck, and then use his shock at a hug to get some private time with Wolfgang.

I think here's a good place to stop. It's a logical break. Also I have to wake up tomorrow, so.

I'll try to run some time over the break, but with so much family buiz, I might not have a good solid window free. Who knows, we'll see.

Jesus, anon, we're trying to avoid stress.

Even if we handle hugs okay when we initialize them, it's prolly not the best plan right now.

Thanks for running Languid.

Looking forward to where this takes us, Languid.

We're okay with initiating, it's receiving that makes us nervous. We've been over this in the past.

Thanks for the run, my friend.

I had the same thought of hugging him but the knock kinda ruined the possibility, I feel.

Some day though goddamn

Thanks for running. Here's hoping Harvey comes. We don't see him enough... And he's gotta flex his wings.
