You are Urist Twelfthbay, the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress, making you a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry AND a disgustingly adorable girl engaged in dumb anime antics, all at once.

So, yeah, your default state of mind has been 200% mad. Lately, though, you've been more ambivalent about it all. On one hand, the first thing you do every morning is curse the universe for making this your lot in life. On the other hand, while you'll never have a beard, you'll ALWAYS have alcohol and friends (and/or people willing to put up with your bitching and moaning), and that helps you get up in the morning in the FIRST place.

Also, constantly getting caught up in terrifying shit that could easily end your tiny unbearded existence has a way of putting things in perspective.

>[X] [ALL IN] Charge Myrra with your allies. Take her down before she finishes casting whatever it is she's charging up!

For instance, you're currently caught up in a desperate mad rush as you and your allies(?) try to stop Myrra before she can finish charging up whatever overpowered spell she's trying to murder you with. You don't need to be a magician to tell that all this void lightning and strange orange-ish glow is bad fucking news.

Now, see, this really shouldn't be so hard- you've all been fighting on a hollow, cratered asteroid roughly the length of two or three city blocks. Doomgirl howls like a banshee as she easily outdistances you, hurtling forward with no regard to her own safety- what's her top speed again, 50 mph?- and drawing a bead on Myrra with that shotgun of hers-

The Master of Magic's mutter seems to carry across the void, cutting through the noise. "Not this time."

(Cont.)
>>
>>43781778
- and you flinch as another one of those goddamn void shark seems to come out of nowhere, intercepting the doomed marine with the unstoppable inertia of a truck running down a small foal. Blindsided and taken off-guard, Doomgirl disappears half into the void shark's mouth, and both of them disappears over the edge of the asteroid.

It takes you a moment to realize that Tiff's stopped running- you keep pumping your legs, but spare a glance back over your shoulder. You're just in time to see her /blur/, shifting into yet another outfit and pulling out some sort of long-barreled rifle. The cackling spellcaster, the stray arcs of destructive magic, and the range doesn't seem to bother the Team Fortress as she squints through her scope, and she starts taking her shots, Myrra flinching back as they come closer and closer.

Looks like Tiff's come to the same conclusion as you: time's running out.

[ ] [UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL] Try to close into melee range. If you're fast enough, you might be able to shut down Myrra's casting! If not, you'll... probably get there just in time to take the brunt of her spell.
[ ] [MEET THE SNIPER] Pull out your crossbow and add to Tiff's long-ranged shots. Between the two of you, maybe you can interrupt the Master of Magic!
[ ] [HELP DOOMGIRL] Trust that Tiff can interrupt Myrra's spell- go chase down that fucking void shark, and help Doomgirl get back into the fight. The last thing you need is for her to get carried off to who knows where.
[ ] [SUMMON SOMETHING] Meatshield, attacker, vanguard- pull out something, ANYTHING, that can interrupt Myrra faster than you and Tiff can!
[ ] [BUILD A WALL] Throw some rocks up, get something between you and Myrra- ANYTHING to blunt whatever she's going to throw at you!

Tiff's first two shots go wide- or rather, they're MADE to go wide, as writhing orange tendrils of light zap them right out of the air. One bullet even ricochets past your damn ear, disappearing into the void somewhere above your head. Just as you flinch in belated reaction, Tiff sends a retort right back at Myrra, and THIS one takes her right in the shoulder, the impact snapping her floating form a few steps to the right-

- but that's all it does. Myrra's face grows pinched, but the cheating no-selling bitch doesn't even stop casting. You spare, like, half a second to wonder how the hell she always DOES that. Seriously, you, Rokko, and the catgirl adventurer Moru tried to kick her ass an entire lifetime ago, and-

Shit. You're not going to make it in time. You're running as fast as you can, and you're not going to make it in time, you can see it in that bitch's triumphant sneer and FEEL it in the suddenly-heavy air. Why the hell did you ever think you would make it in time? You've got short dwarf legs, they're not gonna-

>[X] [NEPTUNE ASSAULT]

"CALL THE VOID!" Myrra shrieks triumphantly, her spell nearing completion- and /now/ you notice that the damn thing is glitched from the inside out, all that horrifyingly chaotic light hiding a rotten core of garbled code. Whatever that spell is, it ain't meant to be cast like /this/, but that's... that's the least of your worries.

You feel divine power welling up inside you, all but threatening to flow out and alter reality (via your fist in Myrra's gut). You FEEL Neptune's instincts straining to cut loose and boost your stately running speed to something a little more out of this world. You know damn well that she's worried about corrupting you too much, but she's also worried for YOU, for whatever stupid reason, and for HERSELF, which is much more reasonable.

You stare annihilation in the face. And then, with a resigned sigh, you let Neptune happen, and your world flares purple.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2_-WCUNXX0

The wind whistles past, dizzyingly fast, and you experience a moment of disorientation as your senses come under assault- the liquid metal gauntlet twisting into that zweihander-katana monstrosity, the hyperdimensional void blurring past your eyes, and /raw power/ burning through your veins.

Myrra barely has time to look shocked before you're right up in her face, spinning with a decidedly UN-dwarven grace, and you BOTH scream as you slash her hard enough to split a mountain into molehills.

"Why does this keep happening!?" the Master of Magic shrieks, clutching her bloody shoulder and staggering back; her spell fizzles out, fitfully carving long cracked furrows into the rock around you. "Why do you keep pulling out these ridiculous comebacks? And why- why is your hair-"

A great shadow looms over you both, rising up behind the asteroid- the void shark, writhing in pain as a comparatively tiny human shatters its teeth one by one, Doomgirl howling about ripping and tearing in her bloodlust. At the same time, Tiff comes through for you /again/, an almost inaudible /zwip/ before a bullet punches into Myrra.

They're kind enough to give you these distractions. Of course you follow through, braids streaming behind you as you cut into her /again/- by all rights, she should be nothing but bloody ribbons, but Myrra is impossibly strong, and cutting through her is like trying to carve up a damned goblin made out of steel. Defensive spells? Arfoire's moxie? Or-

"Enough!" Myrra slurs, lurching back out of range and charging another spell- her outline starts to waver, like she's fading from this world. "I must... I must report this to Arfoire. CPU Purple Heart can't be allowed to interfere with our plans..."

The world seems to speed up again, and in your head, Neptune gasps like a beached whale, like she's trying to regain her breath.

You're suddenly very, very tired.

>[X] [QUESTION(-ish)]

((Yeah! We did it! We-)) Neptune makes an undignified sound, one that immediately brings doggie bags to mind. ((Oh wow, I'm... I'm so bushed that I'm about to lose my lunch. Just... lemme catch my breath...!))

You ignore her with a truly herculean effort, staggering over toward your downed foe. You ignore Tiff's distant curses as you totter through her line of fire, and you DEFINITELY ignore Doomgirl's activities as the sounds of a large creature getting violently butchered squelch out all around you.

"I will come back for you, Urist!" Myrra keeps cursing you under her breath, her glowing eyes tracking your every movement with no small amount of... is that /fear/? "You and all your little builder friends. You shall be working for Arfoire soon enough, and you will be part of my master's grand vision for Gamindustri, whether you like it or-"

That's about when you sock her in the gut. It's like shooting fish in a barrel, since she's just /standing/ there and monologuing- hell, you hit her hard enough that your fist lifts the magic-slinging bitch up off the ground.

Neptune winces in your mind. ((Holy cow- that's really harsh, Urist! Sure, that was hardcore and she was trying to kill us, but she's just a poor midboss who doesn't know any better-))

"Shut your mouth, false goddess," Myrra hisses; you withdraw your arm, and she crumples to the ground. She's taken all this battle damage, and it's the gut punch that smarts the most? "I am... no one's midboss. I am the Master of Magic. The only one of my kind..."

Really? So that's why she's become a midboss for someone like goddamn Arfoire, is that right?

She shoots you a glare, filled with so much venom that you're almost afraid that she'll vaporize you with a thought- clearly, the spirit is willing, even if the body is half-dead. "You of all people should know what I'm talking about," Myrra retorts. "You should know how it feels to have no one /suitable/ enough to be your successor, or to pass down your most deeply-held RECALL HERO!"

Myrra blinks out of existence, and you curse yourself. Goddammit. Why do all these villains run away? Why do they always SUCCEED? And why do they always, always manage to get in the last fucking word, like dumb smug kids who think they have the moral high ground!?

((Don't feel bad, Urist!)) Neptune chirrups, clearly recovered. You wish you could say the same about yourself. ((Amazingly convenient escapes are the special ability of ANY midboss who's worth her weight in salt! Arfoire does that all the time, too.)) She pauses. ((Well, she /did/. I dunno if she does that now, too.))

Against parties consisting of goddesses and their merry band of helpers? Maybe. Against the likes of you or an all-adventurer party? ... not so much.

Tiff's suddenly there behind you, patting you on the shoulder. "Well, I guess that counts as a win, doesn't it? Though I bet you anything she'll be back for more once she's up and running again." The Team Fortress wrinkles her nose. "Did you catch the way she was glaring at you? It's personal now."

You're saved from having to answer when the bloodied corpse of a void shark slams down scarcely a foot away, its unnaturally large maw gaping open dumbly. Doomgirl, covered in blood so viscous that it's almost black, wiping it unsuccessfully against her trousers. "Ah, fists. What would we do without fists? I mean, besides starve to death because we suddenly don't have the fingers necessary to use tools. Like guns." She pauses, bowing her head solemnly. "We would die of heartbreak because we couldn't use guns."

Mm... mmhmm. Yeah. Perfectly right. You quickly take a swing from your flask, and the alcohol helps shield your brain from the ravages of (un)reality. So, Tiff. Does she feel like throwing her lot in with you?

"Hold on a sec." Tiff's lips move silently, and she holds up nine fingers. "Yeah, another unanimous vote. I mean, you guys saved our lives! And... you know." She shoots a glance toward Doomgirl, who's too busy muttering to herself to care about things like /conversations/ and /planning what to do next, and falls silent.

... right. Well, that's that, then. On a whim, you tap the side of your head and stretch your mental faculties- soon enough, that little /thing/ that Histoire gave you, the weather forecasting utility for the Hyperdimension, pings you right back.

We promised to help find Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber, and a Dwarf always keeps their word. So, time to check and see if they're around.

With any luck, they won't be!

Which means, undoubtedly, we'll be able to meet up with them and still make it back to our Fortress before Oceanfall.

Our newest gunbunny wants to find Dao, for whatever reason. Might as well get on that while we're already pissed off.

I'd love to vote mining, but this is TF country - if Lord Gaben is feeling merciless today, all we'll find is CRATES.
>>
>>43784785
You're right, we should save our Neko-Nep summons for when we REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to piss off Airfoire.

And all the other Goddesses are far, far away.

And when Neptune can't grab one to keep.

Well, this is a quest, so one PnP rule should still apply: Never split the party.

We should probably avoid overextending too. Nep's pretty tired, you know.

Maybe we can exorcise her? Quick, someone searches for something from Nanofluffy or the Penguin Archipels, but if we find something from Malus, don't use it on yourself. use it as throwing ammunition.

>[X] [MINING FOR ORES]
>[X] [and ping Therapist I suppose!]

It's not TOO hard to convince the gunbunnies to stick around for just a little while longer- Tiff seems to have a pretty good grasp of the importance of crafting things, and while Doomgirl doesn't really seem to care either way, she's quickly distracted by the corpse of the void shark, which she claims is "looking at her funny."

... 'course, you sure as hell can't judge her for that, not after the things YOU'VE been convinced were looking at you funny.

You leave the two of them to chat over the gory remains of the void shark, and delve back into the depths of the hollow asteroid. Thankfully, the darkened interior, with all of its twisting tunnels, holds no hidden terrors for you. At least, you're reasonably sure it doesn't, and that's enough to get you to mine into the rock surface. Junk stones, junk stones, junk stones, junk stones-

>Urist Twelfthbay has found a vein of Seganium!
>Urist Twelfthbay receives a decent amount of Seganium ore!

... junk stones...

((Hey! Urist!)) Neptune squawks, and you jerk in surprise- you were lulled into a sense of security by her ongoing silence, dammit! ((Wait! Stop! Listen! That's not junk! That's really, really good metal-making stone thingies!))

Ores, Neptune. And it's the national ore of the only Gamindustri nation that got its arse kicked, right?

((Aaaah! That's so mean! I didn't lose the Console Wars because I was weak! I just- I was unlucky, that's all!)) Neptune huffs at you, which feels stranger from INSIDE your head- like someone whistling into your ear. ((You should dig it all out! When properly created, Seganium's the toughest metal in the whole wide world of Gamindustri!))

Maybe it's your imagination, but the echo seems to continue on through the asteroid, albeit slightly twisted due to the emphasis Neptune placed on the words- "Sega's the toughest in the world"...

You shake your head. You're not spending TOO much time in this darned place, not if you can avoid it. The last thing you need is another void shark breathing down your neck, or for Myrra to call in some freaking reinforcements. Really, the only thing you COULD do to make the mining go faster is to create a few extra helping hands, and-

... huh. Well, there's an idea. It's not a GOOD idea, but it's... it's an idea.

Anyway, you're interested in seeing if there's anyone else around, so you bring up Therapist before Neptune can say anything else.

>CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING, AND-
[A1] [MINE IT ALL OUT] Double-time it and dig out the rest of the Seganium.
[A2] [SUMMON MINERS] Bring some extra hands into existence, and have them dig it all out.
[A3] [MINING IS OVER] Give it up. You're not THAT keen on more Seganium, especially not if it means staying in a spot that Arfoire probably KNOWS you're at.

>- AND CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
[B1] [THRAVAR] Her again. This adventurer hasn't moved an inch since you last pulled her up on Therapist. Your skin crawls a little for some reason, but at the same time, from what you catch of her title... is she tangentially related to Mojang?
[B2] [TESSA] You've seen her name before, the very first time you pinged Therapist. She's moving rather erratically, like she can't afford staying in one spot. She's either fighting enemies in some sort of hit-and-run, or she's dancing.
[B3] [FARRAH] She's moved farther away since the last time you saw her. Still floating in the void, though. Still not touching any floating island at all. And... you can sense she's got some minions with her, also floating in the void.

Either her or maybe Tessa. Having someone who is capable of traversing this subdimension by floating would be majorly useful. Also, she can use her minions without fail, which will come in handy.

Right, it's getting kind of late, so I think I'm going to call it a night here! The winning choices are
[A2] [SUMMON MINERS]
[B1] [THRAVAR] (and [TESSA] has been ridiculously close in votes this whole time, so I'll have to figure something out)!

The next thread will (hopefully) be SATURDAY, 11/28, at 9:30-ish pm EST! As always, scheduling updates will go to https://twitter.com/BlorpQuest, and questions can go here or ask.fm/BlorpQuest.

I'm going to be honest with you guys- my schedule's going to be really erratic from this point on. The Thanksgiving weekend will be rough though it should still be doable, the first half of December probably won't work, and then I have a week of freedom before I'll be overseas for just about all of January.

So yeah, sorry ahead of time; thread scheduling is going to get weird.

Thanks for sticking with me, and I hope you guys enjoyed this thread- hopefully, I'll catch you next time!

Nah, Thravar can travel trough space, which means, she can eventually help us getting around quicker. Tessa can probably hold out for a bunch of decades.

>>
>>43785710
CHIM is a concept in the Elder Scrolls game series which, to put it really short, means someone realizes they are in a game. This allowed for some weird shit like Tiber Septim to be in many places at the same time (save scumming) or Vivec to access the editor.
>>
>>43785721
I know which game series she represents, no problem here. Also, it only counts if she was there before. For Exploring the unknown I think Thravar is a better choice.

>>43785716

Well, it depends on the "strenght" of the part in which the party is split. Doomgirl is a onehuman army, so no problem there, except there should be safeguards against doppelgänger.

Aand thats why you don't split the party.

Also Doomgirl is a little too unstable to send her off on recruiting missions. TF too, excepting Dao.

I'm disappointed that this picture wasn't posted at all this thread.
