"This isn't right.. Please let me go back home." The girl on the couch cries. "I'll never bother you or your family ever again. I'll move far away and you'll never have to see me again. Just please let me go outside."

This looks really bad.
It's worse because Mom had to come in and see this display.

"Masami.." She says, I can almost hear the edge to her voice. "What did you DO?"

I might be in a whole lot of trouble.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and I am NOT A KIDNAPPER.
I DON'T KIDNAP PEOPLE.
REALLY, I DON'T.

THIS IS ALL A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING!

"Well?" Mom scrutinizes me. The girl on the couch cuddles her knees while sobbing.
"Mom!" I stamp my foot, "This isn't what it looks like! She's the clown from Fortune! I needed a place to keep her because she was getting in the way! She's just pretending to be all sad and hurt to get me in trouble!"

"Masami.." She seems more irritated than ever. "Kidnapping is WRONG. I can't believe I have to tell you that! Am I a bad mother? Why wouldn't my daughter know that keeping people somewhere against their will is wrong?"
"No! But- It's- Totally justified! We were fighting!"

"I don't need excuses!" Mom puts her hands on her hips. "When all this is over, I want her taken back to her home!"

"C-can I go home now?"

"Stop pretending like you're all hurt! There's nothing wrong with this house! You're just doing that to make Mom mad!"

"I-is that a no?"

HOLD ON, wait a minute. There's bigger problems at stake!
Like how Asai is right outside, in the real world. This place only exists in the 'other world', a magical plane of reality.
Plus, if we're in here, that means everyone in the real world may be in trouble. I don't even know what he's doing right now, and Mom is busy scolding me over this little liar.

>Insist that you're innocent!
>"She's just lying! She was threatening me last time I was here!"
>"Serves her right. She did the same thing to Cirrus!"
>Try to remind her about Asai.

Haruko walks over to the couch and sits down near the crying girl. She wraps her arms around her, as I turn toward Mom.

"Mom! Focus!" I grab her hand. "We need to think about Asai here! He's right outside, and neither of us can fight him!"
"H-he's no problem!"

"Mom.." I pout at her, "You tried the bracelet on him, and it didn't work. So something else is at play here. Focus! Why didn't the bracelet work on him?"

Mom, too, walks over to the couch and sits near the girl and Haruko.
"I don't know why the bracelet didn't work." Mom admits. "I put it on his arm, and he just slipped it right off. I didn't think that was possible."
"..You didn't think he could take off his own arm?"

"No, no. The bracelet disables his power. He shouldn't have been able to do that. They would have stuck to him."

"Then, why could-"
"I don't know." She cuts me off, leaning her head onto the crying girl.

We sit in silence for a few minutes. The girl continues to cry into Mom's shoulder, everyone else seems quiet and sullen.

"What did Asai tell you?" Haruko perks up.
"Oh, the usual." Mom pulls the girl a bit closer. "That having a family is useless, my job at Fortune was just a cover, and I should go live with him as Queen of this twisted little society he wanted to make. This time he acknowledged that I might want to bring all of you along. That's sort-of different for him." She sighs.

My mind replays back the entire incident. Trying to find one hint of what is allowing Asai to escape binds, reform into other people, and turn to a statue when I try trapping him here.
Something comes to mind.

"He KISSED YOUR HAND, GROSS." I whap a pillow with my palms.
"I know, he does that all the time."

"He KISSES YOU ALL THE TIME!?"
I'm going to kill him.

"No, no. I mean- Never mind. He's just like that."

We continue sitting in silence. The possibilities flow through my head.

Maybe Asai isn't a monster? Maybe he has a body double? Maybe he's an Alien? What if he's an Alien, and is pretending to be a monster, but also has a body double?

Wait, where am I going with this?
He mentioned my card, the one I have that creates a shadow-copy of me. I've used it several times to appear in the real world AND in the other-world. It's very good at breaking down magic barriers, and the other 'me' can mimic my actions while away from me.

That said, Asai's copies of himself were very, very different. He could have upwards of SEVEN copies of himself. Plus, he was able to control all of them individually. All the while able to speak, talk, and even taunt with each one.

It's mind-boggling. I couldn't imagine what it would be like controlling six other Masamis. I get a headache just thinking about it.

"Mom." I don't know how to ask this question, either way it's going to sound weird. "Do you know where Asai's real body was?"
"His real body." She repeats to herself.

We sit in silence for a few minutes as she contemplates that question.

"It was one of those things we were fighting, right?" She says, head leaning back on the couch.
"I don't know. I was hoping you would know that."

The silence is deafening.
Maybe I should ask another question.

"Mom, where did Fortune HQ go?"
"I'm guessing he's using parts of it to make that monster. What I don't understand, is that the building is smaller than that monster. So I really don't know where all of it went. Maybe it hasn't assembled itself all the way, yet?"

"Is that good?"
"Maybe, it may mean we still have some time."

>If we have some more time, can we go back and start examining that monster?
>It can't hurt us if it's assembling, right?
>Let's go blow up that monster.
>No, wait, Julie and Haruko. Let's go find them and try searching for Asai once more.

"Wait, Julie and Kaori!" I jump from my chair. "I forgot! I left them in the parking lot of Fortune HQ!"

"You WHAT!?" Mom seems upset, now. "How could you forget about your sister like that!?"

"Wait! I had a good reason! Julie can't fly!"
"That's not a good reason at all!"

"WAIT! STOP!"
Another voice suddenly squeaks with anticipation and fear.
"You're not going to run away and leave me here again, are you!?" The crying girl balls a tissue in her hands.

"Nope! in fact! Masami was just about to let you out!"
"Wait! Mom! Let's talk about this!"

"No."
"Yes! She's dangerous!"

Mom crosses her arms.
"She's not staying here to suffer, that's final!"
"But MOOOOM!"

"NO!"

"But what if-"
"No. Let her out."

"But MOOOOOOOOOOM!"

"No." She gives me the evil eye. "We don't hold people against their will! If she wants out, she has every right to be let out!"

I just know that girl is putting on a sad face so she can attack me again. She would love nothing more than to get out and cause trouble!

"But that's-"
"No, I'm not leaving here until you let her out. I refuse to leave the poor girl alone again."

Oh no! I can't win now!

"Wait! What if-"
"No."

"You didn't even-"
"No, Masami."

Hmph! Fine! Just remember, if she does something, it's your own fault!
"F-fine. I-I'll let her out. Time-out is over."

"Thank you!" Mom smiles at me.

"Really!?" The little girl hops up from the couch, surprising Haruko.
"Yes, you're free to leave."

Without another word, she runs over and grabs Mom around the waist. I almost punch her before I realize that she wasn't trying to attack.

"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I'll-go-away-you'll-never-have-to-see-me-again THANK YOU THANK YOU"

Mom picks her up, and wraps her arms around the girl.
"No noo, I don't want you to go away. In fact, I want you to come over, and we'll have dinner together!"
"Dinner?"

"Mom! No!"
"Masami, you're in enough trouble already."

Pout.

--

Haruko, Mom, and the little girl all appear in Fortune's parking lot.
I don't know why, but the Jester didn't return to the 'normal' form. The clown is now the little girl.

I'm not questioning it.

Mom scans around, but we notice the absence of something. Julie, and Haruko.

Oh no!
I told them to stay here, I told them to wait here!

Now they're gone! It wasn't the clown, she's standing right there.
Kaori has my phone number, so she would have called me if trouble came up.

So that means..
I've made everything worse again!

"KAORI!" I yell. "KAORI! WHERE ARE YOU? THIS ISN'T FUNNY!"
"JULIE!" Mom starts panicking as well. "JULIE! THIS ISN'T THE TIME!"

Silence.

Mom and I look at one another. Slowly, the panic starts to overtake both of our faces.

Julie and Kaori are missing.

Quickly, both of us scramble to our phones. I tap Kaori's number and wait for her happy voice to come over the line.

Ring.

Ring..

Click.

Oh no.
"Masami.." Mom seems more sullen than upset.

"Hold on! We're not done yet! Just- Haruko!"
"We're on it!"

Haruko and I run over and give Mom a quick hug.
"You two go hide, we're going to look for them from the skies. It won't take long! Go hide this time, okay?"

"Right."

"I'm going home though, right?"

I ignore the clown-girl and take off, with Haruko.

--

Just to be safe, we check the park where the adults were fighting Asai. Strangely enough, no one is there when we arrive.
We land nearby to catch our breaths. It's been difficult to keep up the panic, and I can feel the clock counting down.

"JULIE!!" Haruko yells, "YOU BETTER COME OUT NOW OR YOU'RE GOING TO GET SPANKED!"
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah, by me." She pouts.

Suddenly, we hear a noise, behind us.
It's a familiar voice.
"Masami, Haruko. I don't want to scare you, but turn around very slowly."

We turn around to see-
To see..

Julie, Kaori. They're behind us.
Wrapped around them, almost like a coat, is a layer of concrete. It binds their arms, but leaves their legs free.

That concrete, it's moving, shuddering, very slowly. Like it's made out of puddi.

"Help."

The world is getting dark.
Am I going to faint?
