Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony, but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. The world slowly smoldered as the Air Nomads were eradicated by the Fire Nation, leaving nothing but empty homes in their wake. The Fire Nation has already started a full-scale campaign on the Southern Water Tribe, beginning the cycle of death anew.

Fifty years this war has raged, scorching the forests and destroying lives. Many have died and all hope of the Avatar's return has been extinguished, but life goes on. The walls of Ba Sing Se, Omashu, and the Northern Water Tribe have held the Fire Nation at bay, seemingly nothing can penetrate them. As always, there is also solace in wandering.

But this isn't a story about the Avatar, or a king, or even a hero, this is the story of Kuo, a wandering Firebender.

You begin walking out of your room, clad in your new robes, their dull coloration accentuating the small triangular pin on your chest. The same unassuming man who brought you breakfast greets you with an almost sickeningly cordial smile, then begins walking while motioning for you to follow. He leads you through the hallways, framed by an azure glow, to a familiar door. He knocks four times on the door and opens it, revealing the same chamber you awoke in, albeit furnished as a small reading room. The man you assume is Dr. Di sits at a table, grinning in a way that makes you feel as if he can see through you like glass. You wish you were faking the nervous feeling gripping you.

"Please, take a seat Dr. Rock. Don't worry, I'm not going to question you. At least, not this time." He looks at you with an evaluating stare as you pull out a chair opposite him and sit. You can't help but notice two other chairs on either side of you.

"I am sorry for the... harsh treatment you were given by my compatriots. They were not made aware of certain... impressions, you made within only two days of employment at the Palace. Here's a little secret, you are the first person without military experience to be brought in to sit with the War Council. You are the only man to sit at that table, who isn't drilled into obedience of the King." You don't need to be a genius to see what he is getting at. Another door hidden in a dark corner of the room opens, and a man in a reflective mask walks in, carrying a short man who is bound and bloodied. He sets the man, the same one who knocked you out, in the chair to your right and sits at your left. You feel his gaze on you, but when you look at him, the only person staring back is Dr. Rock.

Well it ain't a Cairn thread. Or evens Wang Fire thread but still hype.

"Wh-who are you...what do you people want?" You are no longer pretending to be nervous, just trying to ham it up a bit. The masked man slams his fist into the table, and stands up.

"You can stop pretending you don't understand! You were able to figure out why I was there, and then acted in a brilliant manner to stop me, so you can't be nearly as incompetent as you make yourself out to be! I spent three days casing that house! Three days!" Noppera stares directly at you and then sits down slowly. Dr. Di looks at him dissapprovingly, then turns to you.

"Put more elegantly, you at least know enough to try and stop my friend here, and possessed the cunning to execute a plan. We admire that, the Boss admires that. In our little... interview, you never said you felt particularly strongly about the King and Queen, which we interpreted as you not being entirely loyal. So the Boss figured that having you on with the Rebellion would be better than having you against us. Hence the raincheck on our next interview, you won't need it if you agree to our next piece." He smiles knowingly and rolls his shoulders. Noppera looks at the beaten man and begins speaking.

"You must be decisive if you wish to continue in this rebellion, with no hesitation. This man assumed you weren't going to come quietly, so he hurt you. That was decisive, but an error. There is no room for error. The Boss wants you to use anything in this room." He sweeps his arm around the room to point everywhere. "To kill this man. When you are done, you will sign a confession, which will then be sealed and handed to the Boss for safekeeping." He stares at you, showing a scared scholar.

Refusing will lead to them forcing the issue. Them forcing the issue will result in combat. Combat in this situation will result in you firebending.

So here's my plan.

Stand up in protest and try to get closer to the doctor. Our waterbending friend will get between us and him, even as we close the distance. We can say all kinds of shit about how we were hired to watch out for four people in masks and stop them from doing anything, it doesn't have to point to anyone in particular, we don't even know, blah blah blah. When it becomes obvious we won't get any close, we firebend a hole through mask guy, take Di hostage, and then with our brand new friend (the guy we were supposed to kill) we make our way out of the facility.

"I-i'm not going to kill anyone." You are getting really tired of this whole act, and you want to probably get out of here, maybe you could even take Noppera out on the way. You feel something stirring, you are upset to say the least. Noppera and Dr. Di look at you with a smug grin on their faces, or at least one of them is.

"Dr. Rock, that is... a shame. Well, we tried. If you would." Noppera gets in a stance and binds your feet to the ground with a layer of ice. It isn't even thick enough to impede you, but they probably don't expect you to resist. You are no longer trying to shake, but they don't seem to get that it isn't nerves.

"Dr. Rock, you don't have a choice in the matter, but you just made it hard. It really is a shame that you had to be so, weak." Dr. Di is smiling like a jackal-hyena, you just want to burn that look off his face.

You remove your glasses.

You exhale and steam fills the room, melting your feet and concealing your movements. You feel relief, you finally get to use your bending again. It feels like you finally get to stretch a muscle that has been cramped up for days. Suddenly, the room begins to clear and you look around.

Standing on the other side of the room is Noppera, pulling the water from the air and gathering it around his arms in large tendrils. Dr. Di is nowhere to be seen, probably booked it in the confusion. You completely spaced out on the fact that Noppera is a Waterbender. He looks at you as the water flows into his clothes and you see them stiffen up. He must be making ice armor to cover against fire. That is remarkably smart.

He looks at you and begins to reach his arm back.

You begin spinning your hands to utilize your new technique, the circle of flame appears and begins shifting through the colors. The ring begins to grow in size, eventually reaching what you practiced for. You begin to release the blast.

A sharp pain erupts from your leg, a jagged spike of ice piercing it at the shin, then another at the thigh. You let loose the blast anyway, but it only glances the masked waterbender. However, this melts his armor immediately and leaves him with scalding water down his left side. It must be extremely painful, but he doesn't make a sound. A puddle in front of you tells you that you blocked the brunt of his barrage with your attack. You might not be so lucky next time.

Noppera leans towards you and begins swaying a bit.

As Noppera sways, he begins bending water in large arcs at you, probably trying to knock you over. You don't take any of it however, as you just start launching blast after blast through the water at him. He is taken aback by this, but continues his movements, hoping you'll get tired, while absorbing hits from your fire. Steam rolls off his clothes as his armor melts.

He erects an ice wall between you and begins gathering all of his water in a hurry. Now might be your only chance to get a hit in, it is one of the most important times you could attack. The door behind him swings open with a slam and a tall figure holding a sword begins fighting the Waterbender. You cannot see either clearly through the ice, but it is certainly looking like a heated duel.

You walk out of the room and are greeted by the sight of a rather rotund man bending earth in earnest. He is fighting off a few people in dark green robes, but soon manages to pelt each in the head with a rock until they all lie unconscious. He turns to you and smiles, reminding you of who he was, the owner of the Tea cart at Flame Point and the Tea Shop you went to two days ago. Chogom.

"Kuo! Cover's blown! We followed you, but we didn't expect much. When you didn't come out for a day, Wu got worried and launched the raid. Judging by your attire, we were right to do so too." He shares a moment with you before running around a corner to continue his rampage. You are about to run after him when a spike on a chain sticks in the floor in front of you. You look up.

Staring back at you is a horrific visage, wreathed with wild brown hair. The eyes of the mask show bloodshot whites staring back at you. A low, animalistic growl emanates from the figure anchored on the ceiling before it drops down and gets into a firm stance. The chains begin moving like snakes around him, ringing a rattling with a telltale noise. You don't know how he's doing this, but you need to do something. The icicles in your leg have melted, leaving you still injured and in pain, but not stiff. The creature looks hungrily at the blood.

The chains begin to move slightly.
