The short train ride to the other side of city was filled with nothing but a nice smattering of normality. The mood was nice, and exactly what you’d expect out of a normal, routine highschool life. Souichi, Noriko, and yourself sat next to one another as the train glided down its set of tracks; you scolded your senpai, while your best friend sat on the opposite side of her and snickered while agreeing with you.

It was almost surreal.

It was nice to be able to stroll down the street in an even more relaxed manner, as Noriko’s presence seemed to distract the two of you from the feeling of tension that could usually be felt when you walk down the street. There was no reason to go out seeking a brawl, nor was there reason to go out seeking ANYTHING to wreck; face, building, object, or otherwise. Noriko’s blushing face, even if a sad prelude to her imminent confession to you, was a pleasing sight to see as her lips curled up into a smile.

Glassesmoe is what your sister says. You’re not entirely certain on the concepts of moe and its many forms, but you can certainly agree that Noriko can be cute at times; beautiful even when her glasses come off. She’s the type to look very differently, but this is due to how her frames tend to be rather large or thick, and detract from her natural beauty, not that she believes it. Her self confidence is quite low even in her own image. You kinda wonder if she even understood how she looked if she would stop being so timid.

The transition from the station to the boardwalk feels a lot shorter than it should have been, but upon arriving it feels quite apparent that your body is in need of sustenance. Looking through the archway that sits at the entryway of the boardwalk you can see the familiar scene of the shops and stands that line the way to the amusement park rides that sit at the end of the way.

>[1/?]
>>
While turning your gaze to your peers you notice that Noriko’s eyes are settled on a particular attraction, the ferris wheel. Of course. It’s easy enough to determine this pure maiden’s desires, even if she doesn’t have the guts as of current to voice them. Instead you opt to turn your gaze to Souichi who seems to be surveying the area as well, most notably his eyes are settling on some of the grafitti on the sides of some of the buildings; particularly a black tag with green highlights that reads “Chosen Ones”. He -did- say something about that earlier, but that’ll be a crew to deal with later. You nudge him out of his concentration and motion him with your chin at Noriko, as to tell him that now isn’t the time for that shit.

You turn your head further to survey the area. Your eyes settle on a nearby shop that specializes in seafood meals. Looking to the name you notice that the signboard has some significance with the town’s lore: “Nishizawa-style Seafood Cuisine”.

Nishizawa, while not -too- uncommon name holds a bit of significance for the town. You learned earlier today that was the name of one of the founding families that was known for fishing. Now that you’ve heard the name, it’s easy to recognize why a lot of the shops in the area have similar names. A quick sweep of the area reveals at least three other shops using Nishizawa’s name for their fish-stands and general eateries.

While the fact that the others use the name as well, you know this particular place to have pretty decent foods. Stepping up you put in an order for something nice, well… a couple something nices. With the amount of calories and energy burnt with all the fighting and dealing with Usui, you’re pretty burnt out. You place down the cash for your order, and then motion for your two peers to step up in turn as you stand off to the side while the cook in the back begins to cook you up something nice smelling.

>[2/?]
>>
“Y’know, if’n yer -really- plannin’ on runnin’ fer president dis year, yer gonna need to step yer game up.” You direct your words to Noriko after she places her own order and pays. She turns to you, but she doesn’t meet your gaze directly. She smiles meekly and giggles in a weak manner. “This’s exactly what I was talkin’ bout. Wit an attitude like dat, yer gonna get walked all over.”

“B-but… I can’t really-”

“Can’t really what? You’se kinda give off the image of a cute, fluffy, lil’ Kitty.”

“C-c-cute?...” She blushes and smiles softly. “Thank you…”

“No. Dats bad.”

“Bad? But-”

“Yeah. Bad. Think of it like dis: Tigers ‘n bears don’t listen to kitties. Dey eat dem alive.”

“But-”

“I ain’t finished. Y’see, kitties are good fer cuddlin’, pettin,’ and company, but nobody wants to follow a kitty as a leader. Y’get m’drift?”

“Yeah…” Her mood seems to dampen at her understanding.

“You’se just gotta stop bein’ a kitty, and become a predator.” You smile and pat her head. This seems to cheer her up a bit, but she still seems meek. “Ya just gotta try’n get pumped. Y’gotta become a lion! Roar! Y’know?”

“Can I… become your… lion...ess..?”

“Eh? Roaring lions? Talkin’ bout a rumble or somthin’?” Souichi pokes his head in; apparently done ordering, and holding his own order as well. Taking a look, you notice that yours and Noriko’s orders are up as well.

“N-nothing!” Noriko’s face explodes violently in a deep flushing of crimson red. She turns her face as soon as possible, and goes to grab her food; but she runs into somebody. “Ahh!”

“Oye. Watch it, chick!” A few men stand in front of the counter, grabbing at both of your guys’ food. Each of them are wearing orange in one way or another, in addition to wearing an orange cloth tied around their left bicep. “Shit. Can’t a guy grab some grub in peace?”

>[3/4]
>>
“B-but… those are ou-”

“MINE. Who the fuck you think you is to tell me what I can or can’t eat on my own turf?” The man speaking is wearing a pair of red, horn-rimmed sunglasses and has a shaved head.

“Hey, boss! If dis bitch is causin’ ya problems, ya could probably just have her repay ya wit her body! Kyehehe!” A smaller, thin-looking thug with thick glasses and a head with a single tuft of mossy-green hair atop his nearly-bald head. “She looks like she’s got enough titties to go ‘round to repay us fer all dis psychological trauma she’s caused.”

“Shit. Dat ASS too.” A third grins and crouches down to get a better look at Noriko’s lower body; Noriko reacts reflexively by pulling the front of her skirt down defensively. He’s a fat bastard who’s got a crewcut. “Schoolgirls are the best.”

"Hmmm... You bozos got a point. How 'bout it chickie? Ya gonna pay us willingly, or do we gotta rape that fine, fine, FINE ass of yours?" Sunglasses grins with a line of drool now dripping from the corner of his mouth.

"But... no... I... I-I don't want..." Noriko's eyes go wide with the threats, and begins to back up with shaky knees. You can tell that this is the first time she's really run into shits like this.

Shit like these punks are common in Eternal Diamond City. They all go under different names, but there's no shortage of fuckers who want to destroy, fuck things up, and fight. This 'underworld' isn't as apparent to those who don't delve deeper, but as the Yankii punk you are, you know all too well that these bastards are gang members: The Downtown King's Crew

>Woah, step the fuck off pal. Who the fuck you think you is?
>Deck their boss. Fuck the build-up, deal with this shit quick.
>Step back fuckers. Just piss off, and we don’t have to resort to bloodshed.

"Woah, step off fuckers! Who da fuck do you think you is?" You take a step forward to get between Noriko and the thugs. Glancing back at her you can see the waves of both fear and relief washing over her face. Tears are welling up and are on the brink of overflowing. You raise an arm to motion her to step back.

"Th'fuck does it matter to you scrub? Scram, we're tappin' that." He raises a hand to shoo you away. His lips are curled upwards into a grin that is made all the more creepy by his sunglasses. He steps forward and stops only when he’s within a foot of you. His smirk fades into a frown quickly once he realizes you’re not stepping back.

“Hey! Boss said scram! Boss! Said! Scram!” The smaller guy with thick glasses steps up and gets in your face as well. He has to stand on his toes to do so, though. “So! Scram!”

“Yeah. We don’t want to get physical with a dude. We just want to get physical with the chick.” Crewcut stomps a foot and cracks his knuckles.

“So what? Chitose-sama said fuck off!” Souichi steps up to bat, lowing his small, round sunglasses down so the thugs could see his wicked glare over the top of them. If anything Souichi was expressive, and he was doing well to back you up right now as he stepped to the other side of Noriko to protect her. “I don’t think you know who you’re dealing with!”

“I’m dealin’ with some bleached-blonde scrub yankii-wannabe who’s steppin’ on my, and my Boss’ turf.” He reached forward to push up against your chest, but you knock his arms aside as he tries to thrust them forward. He stumbles slightly, just enough for you to bend down enough to get a headbutt in.

SMACK!

>[1/2]
>>
“SHIT!! Th’fuck kid?!” He steps back while cradling his nose, which now seems to be bleeding. You stand up straight in response and crack your own knuckles.

“I told you to step off. Now, kindly remove yourself from my sight or else Imma have to feed you yer own teeth.” You raise your right hand up between the both of you, and raise your middle finger in defiance to his own defiance. You’re not about to let some asshole push you around and try and take advantage of your friend. No. He’s yet to cross the line, but he’s close.

“You can’t tell ME what to do! Get him!” He furiously points at you as both his buddies step around from behind him, each pulling out retractable, steel batons. They don’t look electrically charged like some, but could still fuck you up.

“Bad move! Chitose-sama’s already won two fights today, you’ll make a nice milestone third!” Souichi calls out as he loosens up into a fighting stance. Each of Sunglasses’ thugs split to take on either of you 1v1. Crewcut takes you, and Glasses takes Souichi.

“Heheh! Is that so? Well, why don’t I just assure that this milestone is his last?” Sunglasses lifts a hand to his mouth, and whistles loudly. “AYE BOZOS! Get the fuck in here!”

You can see from the corners of your eyes that there are a few other guys with similar colors and bandanas are now approaching you from other various areas of the boardwalk. You spot at least four others, but cannot make them out very well as of now. The two in front of you close in.

>Take a look around to gather information on situation.
>Focus on taking down Crewcut quick.
>Intercept Glasses, and tell him to look out while guarding Noriko.

A’ight bozos, are ya ready ta rumble?!
But, before ya start scrappin’,
ya gotta know the RRRRRuLLLLLLLes!

With that stated, time to get into the nitty gritty:
Each encounter consists of THREE things:
>1. Success/Failure Pools
>2. Die rolls
>3. Rumble Resource Points

>>>Success/Failure Pools
Each round you gain at least 1-pt of Success, or Failure. Both Success and Failure have their own individual pools that will keep adding up for each Success or Failure. Success or Failure in an Encounter is determined by which pool reaches a total of 6-pts first. There are two ways of adding to each pool: Die Rolls, and Rumble Resources.

>>>Die Rolls:
Die rolls will be 1d20, and I will take the first three rolls. There will be a starting DC set for each encounter to determine Successes or Failures. Rolls will be determined by the highest roll, and if at least one of the other rolls is at least three below the DC. A Natural 1 or 20 will usually result in Critical Success or Failure, but only if it is supported by the other dice; then it is just a normal Success or Failure. Critical Successes or Failures will grant you 2-pts rather than just 1-pt. The DC to hit will permanently raise with each Failure, and lessen with each Success. Battle momentum is a hell of a thing.

>>>Rumble Resources (RR)
Die rolls represent the eternal sway of battle, but Rumble Resources (RR) represent the Mind, Body, and Soul of Chitose. Each Encounter will start with 1-pt all three (RR). Each (RR) is a numeral indication of how exactly you’re , and represent different aspects of Chitose. Each round the first three to roll dice get to choose a (RR) in addition to their Rolls. You gain an additional 2-pts of Success or Failure if you reach a certain threshold of a particular (RR), dependent on the Encounter. Some fights require more brawn, but less thinkin’; more manly spirit, less brawn; so on and so forth. If you reach this threshold it will trigger events tied to each encounter.

>>
File: Rurus_everywhere.png (95 KB, 500x309)
95 KB
95 KB PNG
>Hotblooded: (HB)
Hotblooded represents BODY, and is the stat that increases Chitose’s physical parameters. The more points invested in (HB) allows Chitose to dish out more pain, and greatly increases his overall brute force. Every 5-pts of (HB) adds a +1 bonus to the primary roll.

You -always- gain a bonus point of (HB) with each failure. Adversely you -lose- a point of (HB) with each success. Reaching 0 (HB) results in the secondary die’s DC to be one less than the primary DC, rather than 3 less than the primary DC.

>Spirited: (SP)
Spirited represents SOUL, and is the stat that increases Chitose’s willpower, and overall ability to do cool shit. (SP) allows Chitose to become even more inspiring to his allies, terrifying to his foes, and increases his maneuverability/agility. Every 5-pts of (SP) adds a +1 bonus to the secondary roll.

You -always- gain a bonus point of Spirit with each Success. Adversely you -lose- a point of Spirit with each Failure. Reaching 0 (SP) results in the encounter’s DC being raised by 2.

>Justice: (JP)
Justice represents the MIND, and increases both your ability to be a clever little shit, as well as your awareness amidst the throes of combat. (JP) let’s Chitose analyze a situation as to find alternative means to end a conflict, weak points, or to catch wind of a change of his opponent's tactics. Every 5-pts of (JP) lowers the target DCs by 1.

You -always- gain 5 bonus (JP) with a Critical Success, and lose -all- of your (JP) with each Critical Failure. You also lose 2 (JP) for each failure. Reaching 0 (JP) results in a -1 penalty to each die roll.

>>>TL;DR
First three rolls are counted.
Earn 6 Successes before you get 6 Failures.
Gain benefits from raising Hotblooded, Spirited, and Justice points high enough
Accrue penalties if Hotblooded, Spirited, or Justice reach 0 points.
You can stack however many points of whatever you desire.

Overflow Pts: (3)
You’re still in Overflow of Success Points! The next Encounter Critical Success will instead yield a Total of 3 Success Points rather than the usual 2 by using 2pts in this pool, OR the next Critical Failure will be Negated and will instead result in Success! Success breeds success!

It requires 2pts of Overflow to affect the outcome of a critical failure! It also requires 2pts of Overflow to add an additional 1pt to Critical Successes! Success breeds success!>Success 0/6 / Failure 0/6

The situation escalates fast when it comes to the provocation of these gang-types. With great numbers comes the confidence in that they could overwhelm any foe. You understand that most of these types of groups tend to be quite weak when it comes to scrapping. They might have a certain coordination to their assaults, but it tends to deal with leadership; this was proved earlier when you fought Pompadour. Sunglasses seems to be their acting leader, as he is quite obviously not “King”.

Aside from getting to Sunglasses, you’re going to need to deal with… how many other thugs there are surrounding you and closing in. To get a good number, you turn your head slightly to get a better look. You see four other people with distinguishing features, and then five others who seem to be mooks. One of the thugs is a chick wearing a gaudy hairbow, as well as a thick pair of sunglasses; spiked heels as well. Another couple thugs have colored mohawks; one’s is short, while the other’s is long. The last thug has neck-length hair. Among the “mooks”, they’re all with short, black hair and are wearing baggy clothes. Sadly, they’re all as about as ordinary and run of the mill as you can get as a thug.

While you turn slightly to get a better grasp on the situation, Crewcut whips around and hits you in the back of the head with the hand opposite of the baton, his left, though a quick glance reveals he’s got one in either hand now. He flicks his right wrist around and hits you in the chest with the first baton. It hurts like hell. You can tell that the heads on each of those things are pretty heavy, and carry with them more impact than a normal baton; almost like a hammer or mace.

“Heh. Shoulda just backed away kid.” You step back and prepare a kick, but in that instance you see him lunge forward much faster than a man of his thick build would normally be able to; he strikes at your right leg, the one you stepped back with. It’s solid.
>>
Aside from your situation, you can see Souichi struggling with his own foe.

“Ch-Chitose-kun! They’re c-coming closer!” Noriko stutters as she informs you of the oncoming approach of the other thugs. Shit’s going to get rough here, and you need to make sure she can get out of here.

“Prez! When I tell ya, RUN!” You call back to her. Your voice is booming, and strong. It’s enough to make Noriko stop panicking for a moment, wipe some tears away, and listen. “Ya gotta do this Noriko. Ya gotta get to safety!”

“O-okay…” She sobs and breathes deeply. “Just don’t get too hurt… I… I-”

“Just do it!” You cut her off as you lunge forward at Crewcut. He catches your tackle, but is unable to keep himself from sliding back a few feet into Glasses. Both of them stumble for a moment. “GO!”

Noriko takes flight as soon as you tell her to. Such an obedient, and good girl.

Such a thought doesn’t get to last long, though. Crewcut finally gets his footing and throws you off to the side, and you land prone on your back. Soon afterwards Souichi is flung to the ground right next to you.

Looking at the scene before you, Sunglasses scowls at you before turning, and giving chase after Noriko… shit! Shit shit shit!

The rest of the thugs close in, and you can hear them snickering at both you and Souichi’s predicament

>Coordinate with Souichi to attack their legs from the ground. Trip them up and give chase to Sunglasses and Noriko.
>Tell Souichi to get up, and follow after to begin your attack once more. If you take these bastards out fast enough, you might be able to catch them before anything happens.
>Tell Souichi to leave you here and for him to go after Sunglasses and Noriko.

Yeah, it has. The secondary DC is usually 3pts lower than the main DC. If the Main DC is 12, the secondary die (second highest) only needs to be a 9 or higher.

Interestingly enough, most failures in this quest tend to be unanimous. Like all three die rolling below 8, or nat 1s.

It's like when we fail, we fail together. When we win, we win together, because seriously. Them rolls can be pretty amusing to watch.
