Otiak looks at the raven man and then asks, “How long ago was this mission?”

“Only a month or so. I knew it would be dangerous to go into the Netherrealm, but I saw something else down there. Something that made me…” his voice trails off.

The disguised saurian looks at him carefully. He’s clearly got the lean body of a warrior, and he’s seen Asgaarth and his people’s capacity for battle, so he could clearly handle himself in a fight. But the Netherrealm is no ordinary place. What could he have seen there? And was it related to the entity he seeks?

“Why are you here, getting drunk?” he asks. Behind them, the celebration continues.

“I was deemed temporarily unfit for duty,” he explains. “Asgaarth told me to relax until I get better, but I don’t think I will. When I close my eyes, I keep seeing what is down there, waiting for me.”

He blinks his one good eye a few times, thinking your words over. "Save it from what, exactly?"

Otiak leans forward. "What did you see in the Netherrealm exactly? Because it might be the thing I'm looking for."

"I don't know what it was, but it wasn't natural. Just looking at it made me act irrational, but I remember eyes and mouths and shapeless things coming off of it... It spoke with several voices and it knew my name."

"What is your name, by the way?"

"Korbin. And I'm sorry, but I don't know how much use I'll be to you if that... thing... is what you're looking for."

"This is very important, but did you see someone else? Someone with this thing?"

He thinks for a moment. "Yes, but... I don't remember anything about them. He, or it could have been a she, I don't know--they were obscured by the aura of that thing."

"Well, you're my best lead so far. I wouldn't mind having some company if you'll help me on my quest."

Korbin pauses. "Whatever that thing is, it's not right. Not of this world, or any other. If you say you're on a quest to look for it, then I'll help you destroy it for what it did to me."

"You have a vendetta against it?"

He points to his eye. "When I looked at it, it screamed in my head and made me lose control. I tore this out."

The saurian's eyes widen when he hears this.

"I think it did it to cover up its escape... It, and whoever was with it, opened a portal and it crawled through. I don't know to where."

"I do mean to destroy it," Otiak says to the raven, "because it means to destroy everything else."

Korbin sets down his bottle. "Then where do we begin?"

"I am a scout, and when time called for it, an assassin. Asgaarth trained me to infriltrate, observe and attack. And I was very good at it, right up until I saw that thing."

Otiak listens as he takes another drink. A ninja bird could be very useful.

"What do you prefer to fight with?"

Korbin reaches down to a leather strap above one of his talons and takes out a smooth knife with a wrapped handle and a small circle on the back. "I throw these. Things tend not to get back up after I throw enough of them."

"Do you have any contacts in the Edenian guard, or do you know any of the royal family?"

"I'm not very familiar with them," he admits. "I spent most of my life training in Outworld before Edenia was reborn. I thought things would be different here, but there are always enemies that Asgaarth needs me to scout out. But I am good friends with Asgaarth."

Otiak looks at Korbin. "Well, I'm a bit more than meets the eye." With his voice low, he says, "I'm a saurian."

Korbin straightens. "From Outworld?"

"From somewhere else. As for what I do, I dabble in sorcery, purely beneficial sorcery mind you. I'm fully dedicated to my quest to save the realms."

"And how do you know about this thing, exactly?"

"I had a vision, and sought guidance. I learned that all the strange things happening lately is because of it. The portals, the strange figures emerging--it all ties up to that entity."

"Perhaps we should go outside," Korbin suggests, and you nod. The two of them proceed outside and once out of sight, he turns to Otiak and says, "Alright, show me."

Otiak drops his hood and reveals his saurian self. "No more tricks, this is me. I only disguise myself for safety, since it is rather unnusual to see a saurian walking about."

"Especially given that they are supposed to be nearly extinct," Korbin says, folding his arms. "So where did you come from, if not Outworld?"

He listens to your words carefully before putting his arms back down. "Alright. Let's say I believe you, for now. It might just be the wine talking, but I want to help you. There are no direct portals to the Netherrealm here in Edenia, at least none that I know. But the queen can create them."

Otiak is hesitant. To go before King Jerrod, a telepath, he would have to guard himself and his mind very well or else his identity may slip. Not to mention that many of his friends may be there...

In fact, something strikes him. If it is Kitana's birthday, perhaps she invited others from Earthrealm or Outworld for the celebration? Who else may be at the palace?

"I think it would be a good idea to go to the royal family palace," Otiak says. "Perhaps we can convince Asgaarth or one of the princesses to help us in our quest."

"If you think it wise," Korbin says. "Follow me."

Along the way, he asks Otiak some more about this entity. Otiak maintains that he knows the entity is dangerous, but does not know where it originates. They pass through the forest and Otiak resumes travelling with a disguise.

"I still don't know if I can trust you, but you're the first person I've met who I can really talk to about this thing I saw," Korbin admits.

"I'm glad that we met as well, but we should speak little of it," Otiak advises. "I don't know how far its sight extends, and if it catches that we are on its trail, it may try to destroy us before we can stop it."

Korbin nods. "I understand. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me, so long as you do nothing to betray my trust. I'm no stranger to having to hide in plain sight."

Suddenly, something catches Otiak's eyes on the road. A statue.

"Wait," he says, stopping to move near it. He peers from the trees and cannot believe his eyes--it is a statue of himself! Not Otiak, but Kaito!

He runs out to look at it. It stands just taller than a man, and is carved of white stone, similar to marble. He stands tall, with his head slightly bowed, looking somewhat tense.

At the base of the statue are a series of letters he does not understand. He cannot read Edenian script.

"What does this say?" he asks Korbin.

"It says, 'Dedicated to a hero and friend, Kaito, who shall never be forgotten for his role in saving all of Edenia and its people.' This statue was the first to be built by the royal family after returning to Edenia when it was restored. I never met the man, but most of Edenia now knows his name."

Otiak reaches out a places a hand on the base of the statue, feeling touched by the dedication.

At least one realm can get it right, unlike Seido.

After taking a moment to appreciate the heartwarming dedication, they continue on towards the royal family palace. It is rather busy, full of visiting nobles and others come to share in the celebration, but thanks to Korbin, they are able to gain entrance past the main gate.

The courtyard is full of guests, mingling and sharing in song and dance. He looks around, but cannot find any of the royal family currently outside. The Edenian Knights are patrolling and making sure that nothing get too out of hand, and Otiak can see some of Asgaarth's people, and even a few others he doesn't recognize, including a man who looks like a tiger.

"Are catpeople in Edenia as well?" he asks. "I knew about your people, but I've never seen those before."

"Edenia is home to a great many peoples who are only now returning from the darker corners of the realms. It is said that the edenians are descended from an ancient race of gods, and the gods took many forms in the time before history."

"And that gives us catfolk?"

"Yes."

Otiak keeps close to Korbin as they make their way through the courtyard. Though there is much to be distracted by, food and beautiful dancers and musicians, the saurian keeps an eye out for anyone from Earthrealm.

As they enter the palace proper, it seems he is in luck. None other than his ally Liu Kang is here, wearing somewhat more ceremonial attire, which includes a golden belt signifying his status as a Mortal Kombat champion.

He got a belt for that? Otiak didn't know that they even made belts for that.

It's not hard to guess why Liu would be here--Otiak scried upon the moment that Kitana managed to break through his traditionalist views and steal a kiss from the honorable shaolin.

The side main hall appears to be set aside for dancing, and the dining hall is hosting a great feast.

Otiak doesn't think that speaking to Liu at this time would be for the best--he's a bit too far up the totem poll. Perhaps another Earthrealmer would be better to make contact with.

As they make their way around, Otiak's eyes scan the room, looking for anyone familiar or out of place--and nearly misses someone else.

There's a man in the corner, hidden mostly from sight. At first, Otiak doesn't recognize him, but he finds the man familiar--in fact, he has met him before!

This mercenary helped him reach Shao Kahn's first failed wedding in exchange for his freedom, but left at a crucial moment. In fact, when Otiak thinks hard about what he knows about the man, he remembers that the man said he was from Seido! Well, that finally explains why he was so specific about the terms of of their agreement back during the second tournament.

Otiak draws Korbin off to the side of the room. "See that man over there?" he points out.

The raven looks over with his good eye and nods. "You know him?"

"He's a mercenary from Orderrealm. Believes only in money, and he's got no sense of humor either. I don't imagine he's here for the party, so he must be here for a reason."

"What do you suppose it may be?" he asks.

"I don't know, but we should keep an eye on him. Wait to see what his move is."

Korbin nods and the two of you split up. A moment later, there is a cheering as the crowd parts to make way for the royal family. Jerrod and Sindel enter, arm in arm, and behind them is the princess Kitana, wearing an elegant dress with her hair done up in a way that Otiak has never seen before. Normally she's got a kind of super sexy killer assassin thing going on, but now she's a bit more regal looking, if only for her birthday.

From here, she appraoches Liu Kang to speak with him. They both follow Jerrod and Sindel into the ballroom, evidently for a dance.

In the corner, the mercenary moves at last. He seems to be heading in the opposite direction that they came from, since most of the crowd was following them and nobody is noticing him, save for you and Korbin.

"Follow him," you suggest. "I'll make sure nothing happens to the royal family."

Korbin nods and moves to follow the mercenary; they both leave down a nearby hall. Otiak, in turn, heads into the ballroom. From here, he observes people dance and mingle as the royal family joins them. Kitana and Liu slowly step together in a simple dance, as do Jerrod and Sindel.

As he searches for anything out of normal, that's when he notices her--Mileena. She's here, wearing an outfit fit for a princess, but she is standing alone. Perhaps she is here to support Kitana, whom she now sees as a proper sister, but nobody else seems to want to speak to her.

Otiak feels a small whirlwind of conflicting emotions as he sees her. He knows that she has been missing him terribly, the real him, and has taken refuge in the arms of another--and he also has seen that person, Tanya, is conspiring with another--Rain.

Speaking of which, where is the prince, he wonders? One would think that a party like this is something he would be all over, trying to worm his way into the royal family through Kitana or Mileena... Otiak doesn't know what his scheme with Tanya to manipulate Mileena will ultimately result in, but he knows that it makes him furious that they would treat her as such.

Though he wants to, he holds himself back from speaking to her. Jerrod is in this room, after all, and it would not do well to raise complicated emotions next to one with powers like Ermac. He decides instead to simply remain in the room and watch for anything out of the ordinary. From a vantage point along the edges of the room, he keeps an eye on the crowd.

Kitana seems to be enjoying herself on her birthday. Liu says something in her ear and she laughs, not unlike a young woman would. Sindel seems pleased that her daughter is enjoying herself, but Jerrod stops dancing for a moment, putting a hand to his head.

Otiak watches--perhaps the many spirits within him are acting up again. They occasionally grow restless, distracting him from having full control over their shared body.

Suddenly, there is a commotion from the other side of the palace; raised voices and stalled music. With your enhanced hearing, you detect the crashing of a plate, followed by the breaking of a table.

People seem to be rushing away, and Kitana and Liu go to investigate while Sindel tends to Jerrod to help him through this headache, as she often does.

Mileena seems to linger for a moment before slipping through a side hallway and out of sight.

Her orange eyes blaze with suspicion.

Now she grows more fierce, nearly poking past his skin with her blade. "Guard your tongue, snake! You will not speak to me as such! I am a princess of Edenia!"

Her eyes widen. "How could you know this? Were you following me in the Netherrealm?!"

"No! I was just watching."

"Explain yourself!" she demands, prodding him with the sai.

"I have watched many of these portals opening up. A woman who claims to be the impossible child of Rain and Kitana, a man who claims to be the son of Sindel and Shao Kahn, and for you, a tarkatan-edenian hybrid who claims he is your child. He was, but not you--Another Mileena loved Baraka and he was the result. Not your child, but a child belonging to a different version of you. Is that child of Smoke and Jade still around? Vapor, right?"

Slowly, her sai lowers. "How can you know these things?"

"Because all of these alternate-reality bastard children popping in and out of our reality is going to tear it apart and I'd rather not have that happen," he says.

Though Otiak knows that she realizes he is speaking about things he was not present for and thus must have some knowledge about them that she lacks, she is still distrustful of him.

"Do you have any proof?"

Outside of revealing his true nature, he has little, but then something else intervenes.

There is commotion from the ballroom. It sounds as though a fight has broken out, and a moment later, Sindel can be heard crying out, "Jerrod!"

"Father?" she says.

"Let me go! We need to see what's going on!"

She hesitates before lowering her weapons and running towards the ballroom. Otiak runs right along behind her where they are greeted with an unfortunate sight. Sindel lies nearby, dazed barely responsive as she holds a goblet of wine that was likely spiked when nobody was looking. Though the dosage must have been strong, she holds up a hand towards Jerrod, who is in the heart of the room, being held aloft in one hand... by an old man. A frail-looking, unassuming, thin old man.

Said old man is not someone Otiak immediately recognizes, but the bald head, long grey hair and fu manchu can only mean one thing. Both he and Mileena watch as the last bit of what once comprised Ermac is absorbed into the palms of the sorcerer, who uses the souls to rejuvinate himself into a younger state.

It is none other than Shang Tsung.

He drops the empty husk of Ermac to the ground, having drank his fill of the delicious souls contained within.

"YOU!" Mileena cries at her creator before charging headlong towards him. "GIVE ME BACK MY FATHER!"

Shang Tsung cackles as he creates a wall of flaming skulls that keeps her at bay. "My dear, I am your father, and magic is your mother. You delude yourself into thinking that you are edenian."

Mileena teleports behind the firewall, but Shang is ready for her. With a newly young body and the skills of a thousand warriors once more coursing through his veins, he is ready to make a match for her.

Otiak can pick up the sounds of battle coming from elsewhere in the palace as well.

Otiak drops his disguise and immediately leaps to assist Mileena, landing alongside her and kicking the sorcerer back. Shang Tsung recovers and looks at his new enemy, as does Mileena.

"And just who might you be?" he asks, curious. "Not Reptile, and yet familiar..."

Otiak flattens his palms and assumes the opening stance of his Snake Kung Fu. He's dealt with enough of this sorcerer to last a lifetime, and now he has the soul of King Jerrod--he cannot be allowed to escape.

Both Otiak and Mileena charge forward.

Otiak goes in low with a descending cobra manuever, attacking Shang Tsung's legs with a series of fast strikes. The sorcerer is forced to step back in order to avoid them, whereupon Mileena is given a chance to teleport behind him with a dropkick to his back.

The sorcerer rolls forward over Otiak and lands on his feet, summoning a column of fiery skulls in front of him to gain some distance. He leaps back and prepares for the next attack.

Shang wastes no time in defending himself from the next attack by launching two screaming skull fireballs at both his opponents, forcing them to dodge out of the way. Otiak attempts to summon a serpent with a bit of conjuration magic, but Shang dives forward with a kick to his stomach that prevents him from casting. He next kick rolls Otiak away as Mileena attacks him again with a furious series of swipes with her sais.

As Mileena fends him off and keeps him distracted, Otiak thinks he sees his opening. He remembers all too well the ultimate weakness of Shang Tsung, the sorcerer's kryptonite and the thing that annoys him more than anything else in the world.

Conjuring forth a green mist around himself in order to teleport away, he whisks himself across the room behind Shang and unleashes another descending cobra strike, only this time he doesn't aim for the legs, but rather the sorcerer's achilles heel--or, perhaps, it is more apt to describe it as an achilles dick.

Otiak strikes Shang right in the junk from behind with a snake-like stab of his hands, causing the sorcrer to cry out in surprise. Mileena takes advantage of his sudden pain to bring up a heel and kick him in the throat, silencing him. Shang stumbles backwards, tripping over Otiak, falling onto his back.

Otiak leaps atop the sorcerer and lays down a beating upon him. He palm strikes his chest and blasts him with a point blank force ball. Shang coughs a few times before Otiak reaches up and removes his mask's faceplate, preparing to unleash all of the acid on the sorcerer's face.

Suddenly, the mercenary from earlier appears from behind him and dropkicks Otiak off of the sorcerer. Kitana and Liu Kang rush in behind him, but this gives Shang the opportunity to transform into a serpent himself and slither away. Mileena sees this happen and tries to throw a sai blade at the snake, but the mercenary intercepts it by kicking it out of the air and knocking it aside.

Otiak gets up to his feet and shouts to get after the snake, but the serpent has already slid out of a nearby window and into the gardens.

"It's Shang Tsung!" Mileena says to her sister and the shaolin warrior. Liu needs no further word; he immediately jumps out the window to chase the snake down.

The mercenary gets back up and prepares to deal with Kitana and Mileena.

Otiak suddenly pauses. He remembers when he was scrying upon Mileena during her time in the Netherrealm; she picked up a green soul gem that was just like Ermac's. He looks down at the drained body, which is thin and weak now with no souls to sustain it, and realizes that it may need a replacement gem.

Using his green mist, he shrouds himself and teleports up to Mileena's room, having remembered the layout of the palace during his time watching in the demiplane. He begins to frantically search for the gem and ends up stumbling upon her small collection of homemade teddy bears.

He pauses when he sees one with a Japanese headband across its forehead, just like the one that he wore as Kaito, and realizes that she made a teddy bear based off of him.

That's goddamned adorable. Does she cuddle with it at night, he wonders? Pondering best saved for later.

He sets it down and searches for the gem. The nearby balcony outside her room overlooks the gardens, and it sounds like Liu found the sneaking sorcerer and is battling him. Otiak thinks hard for a moment about where it may be before having a sudden brainstorm. He picks up each teddy bear and feels around inside of it, and one of them has something hard inside of it. He rips it open (making a mental note to apologize for it later) and sure enough finds the hidden soul gem.

He pockets it and wonders what to do next. As he does so, he hears another noise, a third battle coming from the dining hall; the sounds of smashing plates and clanging silverware. Another battle? Korbin, perhaps?

Taking a moment to teleport into the dining hall, Otiak discovers that the dining hall is under attack by oni! Not just any oni, but two that he has seen before in the Netherrealm, and who he learned the names of from Ryan--Drahmin and Moloch.

Korbin is here, battling alongside Jade, but the two oni do not seem to be focusing on fighting, but rather destroying as much as possible. A group of Edenian Knights charge in, which the blue ape-like oni Moloch barrels right through, knocking them all over on his way to a large statue. He smashes it with his orb, cracking it into little pieces.

Meanwhile, Korbin throws a knife into the back of Drahmin while Jade throws her bladed boomerang, but the oni shrugs off both attacks and uses his club to crack the dining table in half. Jade shouts angrily and uses her staff to leap over the table to kick him into the wall, and Korbin leaps up to the top of the room to grab onto a chandalier with his feet. From here, he continually throws knives at both oni, well out of their reach.

Otiak opens up with a descending cobra, striking down at Moloch's feet, but the tough skin of the oni keeps his attacks from doing much damage. The oni roars and slams his orb downwards, with Otiak barely dodging out of the way. The orb smashes against the ground and cracks the tiles.

Jade continues to battle Drahmin, using her staff to keep his club at bay. She brings up a leg and kicks him in the chest before twirling around in the air and tripping him with her bo. Korbin throws three knives into Drahmin's chest, which the oni angrily tears out with his hands before getting back up.

Moloch, meanwhile, turns his back to Otiak in order to destroy an artistic archway, bringing up his orb to crack the fine stonework above.

At that moment, Asgaarth runs onto the scene with three more Edenian Knights, they set their sights on Moloch and charge towards him.

Otiak summons a green serpent that wraps around Moloch's legs. The oni is temporarily held still, allowing Asgaarth to soar towards him with a devastating punch.

Otiak looks over and sees Drahmin bring his club down upon Jade's staff as she holds it up to block. He then frontkicks her in the stomach, knocking her down. Otiak teleports between the two of them and delivers a snake-like snap of his hand to the oni's neck, forcing him back.

He remembers that the mask upon the oni's face is what allows him to keep in control... without that mask, the oni is a mindless monster. Dangerous in his feral nature, but in some ways a mindless opponent can be easier to handle due to their lack of creative thinking.

Drahmin gurgles out a gutteral groan before raising his club and charging in!

Otiak plans to go for the mask, but then Drahmin suddenly lunges forward faster than his eye can track, spinning his arm in a way that would snap a normal man's arm. This helicopter-like club attack slams into Otiak's shoulder, knocking him down to the ground.

Jade leaps over the saurian and polevault kicks the oni away. Korbin leaps down and kneels next to him, helping him up to his feet. "Are you alright?" he asks.

"He's faster than he seems... We need to get that mask off! It's what keeps him in control. Without it, he's just a mad dog!"

Korbin looks on as Jade battles Drahmin across the broken dinner table. In the distance, Asgaarth has leapt onto Moloch's back and is riding him into a wall, smashing his head through the stone.

"Leave it to me," Korbin says. "I'll sneak up from behind him and grab it; you distract him from the front!"

The raven rolls away, getting out of sight. Otiak prepares his next move as Drahmin picks up a chair and throws it at Jade, who backflips to dodge out of the way.

Otiak performs a python snap, which Drahmin blocks, but then follows up with a fog of confusion in the beast's face, distracting him. He leaps back as Korbin suddenly appears from behind, tearing off the oni's distinctive mask before vanishing by leaping up towards the ceiling. The oni turns around and madly swings his club, roaring as his monstrous, skinless face is exposed. He begins swinging with abandon, not caring who or what he hurts.

This allows Jade to lead him towards Moloch, whom he attacks. Moloch roars and tackles Drahmin through a wall into the castle courtyard. Asgaarth and the Edenian Knights chase after him, but Jade stays to speak to Otiak.

Otiak leaps through a nearby hole in the wall and into the gardens, where he initially cannot find either Liu nor Shang Tsung. However, a sudden explosion of fire into the sky seems to be a good place to start looking. He flips over a few hedges before ending up in a clearing surrounded by trees and flowers in which the shaolin and the sorcerer are doing battle, with the shaolin clearly coming out on top.

He knocks Shang to the grass with a furious backhand and rubs his nose. "It's over, sorcerer! I'm going to send you back to the pit you crawled out of, and this time you will not come back!"

"I have travelled much farther than that to get to this moment," Shang says. "...Both of us have."

Suddenly, Liu is blasted from behind with a fiery skull. He is forced onto a knee, and from the shadows behind him emerges... Shang Tsung.

As if things weren't already too complicated...

The first trips Liu to the ground while the other gets in position behind him, ready and eager to snap the shaolin's neck as he pulls him up and into a chokehold.

As Otiak prepares to summon a more powerful serpent to stop the one with Liu in the chokehold, the other Shang transforms into Kano with a flash of green light. He cannonball rolls through the air at Otiak, knocking him to the ground.

He transforms back into Shang Tsung as his twin continues struggling against Liu Kang. The shaolin reaches up and tries to escape, but with one sickening snap, his head twists to the side and his eyes roll up into his head.

Liu falls to the ground, dead.

"NO!" Otiak screams, kicking the Shang on top of him off and spitting in his face with poison to blind him. He gets up to his feet as Shang prepares to absorb the soul of Liu Kang to fuel his own power.

As he holds a hand above the dead body, a green vapor-like energy emerges and begins swirling towards his hands. But he isn't the only one who knows sorcery. Otiak takes out the soul gem and points it at Liu. Though he is not proficient in stealing and dealing with souls, the gem acts as a focus for absorbing gems. All he need to is channel some of his magic into the tool.

The gem glows green and the soul is literally torn from Shang's fingers, flying through the air and into the gem, where it is safely contained once more.

"You fool!" Shang curses him. "That soul is MINE!"

"LIU!" Kitana cries from a nearby balcony. She, Mileena and Jade leap down into the gardens.

"I'll not forget what you've done, robbing me of my prize," the second Shang mutters. "But we are still victorious, for we have the soul of King Jerrod! Soon, the army of the Dragon King shall return!"

He creates a portal behind him and dashes through, as does the first Shang. Otiak tries to stop them, but Mileena throws her sai at his feet to stop him, thinking him an accomplice. The sai catches on his boot and causes him to trip.

Both Shangs escape.

Kitana runs to Liu's body, grieving over him. Jade and Mileena surround you with their weapons.

"I have his soul!" Otiak exclaims, holding up the green gem. "I managed to save his soul!"

Mileena wastes no time in swiping it from his hand. Jade seems pleased. "If we have his soul, then Sindel can bring him back to life!"

Mileena slowly nods. "We are fortunate... But now that leaves you." She looks down at Otiak with narrow eyes.

Korbin and Asgaarth come out to the field. "I can vouch for him," Korbin says. "He is an ally. He is here on a mission to save the realms."

"So he told me the same," Mileena says. "And yet... something is strange about him."

Otiak catches his breath. "I mean no harm. I certainly had nothing to do with Shang Tsung--both of them."

"We should take him into custody," Jade suggests.

Otiak holds up his hands. "I'll go willingly. I'm not your enemy, like I said before. But where are the mercenary and the oni?"

Asgaarth steps forth. "The mercenary is in our custody, taken down to the prison. The oni were fighting each other and fell off the cliff into the waterfall. I have a scouting party searching for them."

Korbin hands Asgaarth the mask of Drahmin, who inspects it curiously and carefully.

Jade helps Otiak to his feet. "I believe he is telling the truth. He helped us fight against the oni."

"Where does this threat to the realms come from? Netherrealm?" Mileena asks.

"Not exactly," Otiak begins, but is cut off by the sudden appearance of Sindel from the palace.

"Where is my husband's soul?" she asks somewhat wearilly. Mileena goes to her and helps her stand straight.

"The sorcerers escape with it, I'm sorry to say," Otiak admits. "But perhaps we can get him back."

Kitana picks up Liu's body and takes him inside towards the palace. Jade places a hand on Otiak's shoulder and guides him inside, towards the dungeons. "We will discuss who you are and what you have said," she tells him. "Until then, we shall keep you here."

"I understand," Otiak replies. "Korbin knows. Speak to him. He saw what I am after."

Jade nods and leaves.

Across the cell from him is the mercenary, who stares at him. He sits in his cell the exact same way that he did when Kaito once found him long ago in Outworld, on his knees and patiently waiting.

He says nothing.

"I am a very patient man. My payment is hidden and will be waiting for me where I left it. I have escaped from prisons and waited out sentences many times before. I can do it again."

"So, what, even if you get busted you just wait?"

"Patience is a virtue that many tend to overlook. I have accomplished feats well beyond the measure of normal men simply by waiting for the right moment."

"An opportunist, then," Otiak says, remembering the bargain he struck with the man once in Outworld. "Are you for hire?"

"Good, some time with the royalty," Otiak says as Jade opens his cell.

We won't reveal we are Kaito, and where we got that mission from. We'll tell the same thing we said to Abacus; we saw the last stage of the invasion first hand, and saw that things got better following the separation of the realm, then they got worse and worse. The destabilising effects of the portals are eroding more and more of reality.

We started to travel the realms to find the cause. As fate would have have it, we bumped into Krobin. From that point he can tell us that he saw something very very out of the known realms, and we would try to seek it.

We are the Saurian from Earthrealm's Jungles (Mention a place Kaito have been fist hand, so he can give genuine descriptions), last decent one of our kind.

Otiak is brought before the throne room, ready to explain himself before the audience of the edenian elite. Sindel is here, along with Kitana, Mileena, Asgaarth, Korbin and a few other choice faces. Curiously, Tanya and Rain are not present—perhaps they are elsewhere?

“The one known as Otiak,” Sindel says as he is brought in. “First, explain who you are.”

“I am a saurian from Earthrealm,” he says. “I have practiced magic in secrecy for years, unaware of the larger events in the realms. I witnessed the invasion of Earthrealm firsthand and bore witness to the power of other realms—and more. I have experienced a vision, your majesty, of something terrible on the horizon, and my mission is to stop it.”

“He knows things he cannot possibly have been present for,” Mileena says. “He knew of the gem hidden in my room and spoke to me of events he could not know.”

“I sense the gem’s power,” he lies. “As a sorcerer, I felt its presence. And I have had very extensive visions, of what is coming.”

Mileena folds her arms. “He speaks of coming destruction, but has no proof.”

“I had visions of alternate worlds,” he explains. “The only proof I need is the people that have been emerging from the strange portals we have all seen or heard of. These are people not from other realms, but other realities—and they are crossing impossible barriers to come into our world.”

“I believe him,” Jade suddenly speaks up. “The woman who claimed I was her mother, she knew me so well—but it was not me. It could only have been another me. She spoke of events I had no recollection of, and where she came from, Smo—her father was not dead.”

“I, too, have seen a strange ‘child’ of mine,” Mileena admits.
