You quickly rush over, ahead of the rest of your squad, waving happily. You stop just short of Squad 8 and smile. "Hey, guys! Glad to see that you're all still around through all of this. It's been pretty intense, huh?" The rest of your squad catches up, and stands next to you. They're as quiet as ever, with Ai seeming a little suspicious of them. You figure that it's reasonable, in this sort of environment. It's true that the possibility of an eventual double cross has often passed your mind, but the possibility of an ally is worth the risk.

Shikadai smiles faintly. He seems a little beat up, as does the rest of his squad. Especially Chocho. "Same to your squad. It's impressive that you've all made it this far, if your luck has been anything like ours. The forest is unforgiving."

You have a brief flashback to the variety of near-death encounters and high-tension battles you've had since you've been here. You chuckle, halfheartedly. "Yeah, no kidding."

It really feels like too much of a hassle to try and fight you for it though. I won't object to you tossing it our way, however. That way you'd have a promise of security, if your squad feels a little unsure of us. We'll stick by your side until we catch another squad with the scroll you need and you pass, either way."

You hand over the scroll, grinning widely. "Sounds like a deal. Let's go, everyone. We're getting out of this forest as soon as possible!"

Your new six-man squad leaps ups into the trees, and fans out slightly in search of an enemy squad. You all go for a mix of stealth and speed, and it's roughly half an hour before you spot a three man squad moving at a slow pace on the forest floor. Speeding through several handseals, you mentally contact the fiver other Genin on your temporary team and alert them to your location. In less than a minute, Shikadai uses his Shadow Possession jutsu to trap the group from behind. They never had a chance. You leap down and search through the pockets of the front Genin, and you look at the group. It's a three man squad of Leaf Genin, slightly older than you. They all look terrified and confused, helpless as you walk away with the Heaven scroll. Behind you, Kichiro proceeds to knock out each one with a strong punch as Shikadai releases the Shadow Possession.

"They were a weak, injured squad who had just barely been scraping by. Not much unlike ourselves, Takeshi." Shikadai cooly coomments.

You smile. "Well, it could have been us getting teamed up on just the same. Fortune is a present element in the battlefield, and today, they lacked it."

Inojin held up a finger and chuckled. "This was a result of your wise political strategy, not fortune."

Ai smiles slightly, surprising you by joining on the conversation. "I am also a believer in the philosophy that luck is merely opportunity made apparent to the ambitious."

You all made a dead sprint for the tower at the center of the forest, and you all make it by the time the sun is just hardly setting. Shikadai's team bids you farewell and heads in before you, and you can hear the faint sounds of conversation. After waiting briefly you head in as well, and upon being instructed by a note on the wall left by Shikadai, you open up your scrolls.

Moments later your homeroom teacher, Shino Aburame, is standing in front of you!

You grin from ear to ear. "Hello Sensei Aburame! What are you doing here?"

You can't see his mouth, but you get the impression he's also smiling. "I'm here to welcome you to the next stage of the exam. I'm extremely proud of all three of you. The fact that you've gone in with so little experience and come so far is unprecedented. The other Genin who have made it to this point are the elite of the elite for your age. Now you'll stand among them, pass or fail for the next section."

You bow. "Thank you sensei. What's the next section"

He reaches into his coat. "Well, first, I have a gift for you Takeshi. I've been hearing of your exploits as a Genin, and I must say I'm impressed. I'm not sure what element of your life has sparked this new ambition, but I'm willing to support it. There is only one thing I ask of you. Do not use this gift on my son. If I were the cause of his defeat, I would never be able to forgive myself."

He hands you a very small vial of dark, dark purple liquid. "This is concentrated venom from a special breed of my insects. There's only enough for three doses in here, but it's potent enough to end a fight if you can land with it. It will paralyze the muscles."

Kichiro grumbles. "What the heck?! I don't get anything??"

Shino shakes his head. "I think that you and Ai will do just fine. You've both got an advantage in ability and spirit. Takeshi has all the brainpower in the world to win his battles, but without a strong move to close the deal he'll have difficulty. That's why he's the recipient of my gift."

Kichiro tugs his forehead protector slightly down, grinning. "So you're saying I don't need any poison because I'm too good? Well, when you put it that way.."

Shino sighs. "Moving on. You're going to have to wait for five more days until the prelims will begin. I wouldn't advise training here, and you can't leave. It's this fight that will decide if you fight in the tournament. You'll want to be ready."

The five days of rest bears heavily on your mind, and you stare at the vial of insect poison. This may very well be your only key to victory, so you'll have to wait until the absolute perfect moment to use it.

After the fifth day, you're back to one hundred percent. As is the rest of your squad. You all open up the double doors to the preliminary arena, and the light shines brightly in your eyes as you look into the room.

We really shouldn't have taken that Genjutsu book back to the library.

There must be forty Genin who have made it this far. That's absurd. Your eyes quickly flick around the room, stunned. You try and make a mental note of everyone you see. Mari's team. Rokuro's team. The Sand team. The Snow team. The Grass team. One Mist team. Shikadai's team. Himawari's team. The Cloud team. Boruto's team, of course. A Stone team. Yasu's team.

And your team.

You join up with the rest of the squads, in formation. You're all facing the Jounin of the different villages, and many from the hidden leaf. You see Shikamaru, Choji, Sakura, Hinata, Temari, Hinabi, Mirai, and Rock Lee. There are a few you don't recognize as well. In the center is Naruto, who's standing tall and proud in his Hokage robes. He laughs before starting.

"I can see that you're all here now! Excellent! I want to welcome you to the next phase of the Chunin exams, the preliminary tournament! In order to cut down on competition for the final tournament, and to save time, this tournament will be a single round elimination tournament. The winners will move on to the next phase, and the losers won't. From here on out, this is no longer a team battle. It's every man for himself!" He pounds his fist into the other. "Show us what you're capable of!"

Shikamaru steps forward. It seems that he will be the proctor. "The first match is..."

If you want to we can do each and every one, however, I'm going to assume many people will want to skip some or maybe even most of these, considering they're not a segment you really participate in other than talking to other spectators, of which there are many.

The names stop at Sarada Uchiha vs. Olly Chan. Across the arena, you hear the bug-eyed boy from Mari's squad jump up and yell. "Wooo! I get to go first! Woohoo!" He leaps over the balcony and lands in the arena, while Sarada calmly walks down the side to oppose him. Looking over, you can see Sakura smiling with her arms crossed. Apparently she has faith in her daughter.

You know how fast Chan is, however. For all you know Sarada isn't ready to deal with that sort of speed and strength.

Shikamaru raises his hand in the center, and throws it down. "Begin!" he leaps away.

No words are exchanged between the combatants. Chan starts with a dead sprint towards Sarada, moving just about as fast as you expected him to. He nearly vanishes from your sight, and for a moment you think that she's going to get knocked out.

Sarada holds up a hand, and calmly catches Chan's fist in it. His eyes go even wider in shock. "Impossible! How are you strong enough to-"

She pushes forward, a seemingly gentle motion. Olly Chan is sent flying until he tumbles across the floor of the arena.

Kichiro, next to you, leans over the rails. "Woah! What was that!?"

Ai looks down, calm as ever. "She's using her chakra to increase her strength. Impressive amount of control."

Hanto, suddenly behind you, laughs. "Observant. That's right. It's the same strength that Lady Sakura and the Fifth Hokage used."

Chan stands up, a scratch on his cheek. He growls. "I will not be defeated so easily!"

Sarada quickly flicks through a series of handseals. Faster than Kichiro had done for the same jutsu, using the Phoenix Flower technique. A storm of fireballs is spread across the arena, although they don't seem like they'd hurt too much. Chan starts to dodge and weave between them while advancing. He leaps forward and swings a roundhouse kick up, but all the same Sarada calmly pushes it away with a gentle emotion. The force of her movement sends Chan out of balance, stumbling away from her for a few feet. He plants his foot on the ground just as she stomps forward to strike him with a hard punch, but thankfully Chan brought his hands up to block.

The punch still sends him soaring with a single flip, and he skids across the ground on his landing.

Chan stands upright, and reaches down. "To think that I would be pressed to take off my weights so soon. What a dissapointment.."

He unhinges what seem to be leg and arm weights, and holds them up. "Now the real fight can begin."

Sarada places a hand on her hip. "I really don't think that's going to help you all that mu-"

Chan drops the weights, and a colossal explosion of dust rockets up. You quickly glance to the side and you can see Rock Lee with tears in his eyes, for some reason, holding up a fist proudly.

Looking back, Chan is already upon Sarada. She blocks the first strike, but she's too slow to intercept a second punch. She grunts as her head is rocked to the side from a punch, and her counterattack whiffs air.

Chan suddenly goes invisible, and Sarada takes off her glasses and tucks them into her pocket. She seems to take a deep breath, and when her eyes open, you see it.

The Sharingan. She has two strange markings, like two sixes, around each pupil. Her eyes are totally red. You imagine that she doesn't need her glasses when that's active. You've got no idea what the Sharingan's power actually entails, but now you'll be able to see it firsthand.

This time, she's blocking each of Chan's strikes with ease. She's able to hold her ground, but each attempt at striking back leads to hitting nothing.

Sarada growls. "HOLD STILL!"

She punches the ground, and a fissure explodes in the concrete. It shoots across the arena and the shockwave intercepts Chan as he's passing by, sending him sprawling across the ground.

Sarada leaps at him, and he jumps back up and does a short hop out of the way of a devastating punch. It creates a small crater in the earth.

Chan, instead of retreating, turns around. "Leaf Hurricane!"

He throws a single kunai, and Sarada leaps up into the air. This seems to be what he's planning as he jumps after, twisting around his entire body to whip forward in what seems to be an extremely powerful kick. It looks as if he's going to collide at first, but once more Sarada intercepts his leg. She grabs onto it and absorbs the impact, swinging around and throwing him with all of her might back to the ground. There's a great cloud of dust as Chan is partway buried in concrete.

There's blood seeming through his clothes, and he's laying on the ground, shivering. "M-my arm! I can't move it!"

It's surely broken.

Shikamaru steps forward. "Sarada Uchiha is the victor of this fight! On to the next match!"

So doing some research on the wiki on Genjutsu, I discovered the existence of Mecha-Naruto.... What the fuck happened in the anime?

The screen high above spins the names randomly once more. You feel tension rise in your gut as you know it could be you at any moment, against anyone in this room. After a few seconds of this, the names stop.

Kichiro vs Rokuro. You chuckle. Fire versus Water. This doesn't seem like a good matchup at all, especially since Rokuro is bound to know what Kichiro's deal is considering your previous encounter. What scares you even more is the fact that Rokuro and his squad are here at all after you took their scrolls from them.

That means they woke up and made up for all that time. "Good luck."

He gives you a thumbs up as he walks away, back turned. Like a cool guy. "Don't need it." He calmly replies. Is he really so confident?

He stands across Rokuro, hands in his pockets. He seems almost relaxed. Rokuro seems to be studying him. "Hmm, you're the Genin in the forest who's name I couldn't remember.."

Kichiro takes a step forward. "Well lemme tell ya! It's-"

Rokuro waves his hand. "No, no, I saw your name on the screen. I know what it is now. I just knew that you seemed familiar. You're the son of those drunkards who blew your grandfather's family fortune, right? The one he worked his whole life for?"

You've got no idea what he's talking about. It must be stuff Rokuro's own dad, who's well off in the community, told him. This isn't good. You can see Kichiro's knuckles turn white as he clenches them.

"What about it!?" Your friend growls.

Rokuro laughs. "What's the bastard son of a drunk doing on the battlefield? If you really wanted to respect your dear old grandpappy's wishes you'd-"

Kichiro takes another step forward, and stomps. "DON'T TALK ABOUT HIM!!"

He's breathing heavily, fists slightly raised. You've never seen him so on fire. Shikamaru looks between them. "..Right. Dramatic. Begin." He leaps away.

Rokuro speeds through several handseals and creates four water clones off the bat. They charge forward and attempt to beat on Kichiro as a group, but he isn't having any of it. Your friend draws a kunai and slashes through the first two clones as they advance, before throwing the blade into the third one. He flicks through handseals of his own to create a huge fireball to engulf the final clone, and send it flying towards Rokuro.

His enemy responds with a similar level water jutsu. Several bullets of liquid pierce the fireball, dissipating it. Kichiro rolls to the right, dodging the first and ducking under the second. He jumps up to try and avoid the third, but he's slightly too slow and it strikes him in the exposed gut.

He's sent tumbling back, and is soaked. Your friend stands up, and he wastes no time in moving through handseals. He starts to sprint in a circle, all while blowing small fireballs that hover in the air. His Hellzone Jutsu. He's going to try and trap him in?

Rokuro does two handseals, and collects a stream of water from the air. It gathers into his hand and he slings it forward, using the Water Whip jutsu. The whip wraps around Kichiro's ankle, causing him to trip. "Oh no you don't!"

Kichiro is pulled from his feet and towards his opponent, his jutsu interrupted. He passes under one of his fireballs floating just above his head.

"HAH!"

He punches it, and it flies high up into the air. He draws a kunai from his pouch and sits up, tossing it to break the whip. As soon as he's free, he leaps from his back and his skin turns red. The boy's navy blue hair spikes harshly as steam pours from his clothing, and he uses his increased strength to leap high in the air.

"VOLLEY BALL TECHNIQUE!"

You hear his voice echo across the arena as he flips over the fireball, and slaps it back down. It shoots at Rokuro with extreme velocity, but the Genin has a response. "Mud Wall Jutsu!" He spits a stream of mud at the earth, and the short wall of dirt absorbs the blast of fire.

Hanto chuckles from behind you. "Two elemental natures already. What a potent bunch."

Kichiro lands, and immediately spins around to kick another one of his floating fireballs. The projectile chips away at the earth wall, weakening it. Rokuro forms three Water clones next to him as Kichiro attacks.

After punching one more fireball into the wall, Kichiro flicks through the same handseals to use Great Fireball Jutsu and send a massive burst of fire against the structure. It's shattered completely, and two of Rokuro's clones are destroyed as they leap away in confusion.

Rokuro and his clone both send three water bullets at Kichiro, and he has to flip and weave between what he can to survive. The second to last one strikes him in his front leg as he takes a step to evade, sending him spinning to his side. The second hits his face with the force of a major league baseball pitch. Blood flows freely from his nose and face, which is now sporting a new gash. he sits on the ground, limp.

Rokuro walks forward. "My parents always told me how corrupt your family is. How they ended up screwing everyone they cared up, and left you to screw off to god knows where. You've been just as bad, haven't you? Just as much of a thug as they've been. If your grand-dad could see you now, he'd-"

Kichiro slowly stood up, a slight wobble. Even though he physically looked to be weakened, his voice was loud and strong. "You've got a lot of nerve! Don't talk about things you don't UNDERSTAAND!!"

Kichiro hunkers down slightly, clenching his fist as tight as he can. "Hhhhaaahhhhh!!!"

His skin turns a sharp shade of red, and you know that he's invoking the full strength of his Bath-house Oni Jutsu. But how long can he use it?

The steam on the floor of the arena rises in a thin vapor, partly obscuring everyone's vision. Hanto leans forward, a little surprised. "Oh? What's this? Something he came up with?"

You nod. "That's right. It's a jutsu he said he invented."

Nearby, Hanto's father, Sarasu, steps in. "Do you see what he's doing, Hanto? It's like a primitive version. But he doesn't see why what he's doing is dangerous!"

Rokuro flicks through several handseals, and a steady stream of water bursts from his mouth. It rockets towards Kichiro, but he raises up both of his hands and blocks it. As the water hits him, it instantly evaporates into a huge white cloud, covering the battlefield. You can hear Kichiro yelling in what seems to be a mix of pain, and anger. "HHHAAAHHH!!"

You look to Sarasu. "What's he doing?!"

The monkey-like man looks down at you grimly. "He's converting all of his chakra into heat and power. It's going to make him strong, but if he does it at a high intensity for too long, it'll cook his organs. Make his blood boil."

Rokuro looks stunned. "W-what did he do!?"

Kichiro's voice echoes through the steam. "You made a mistake talking so much shit! Once you cross a line like that, a man can never hold back! He gives it all he's got!!"

The steam is blown away, and so is everyone in the room. What was once your grumpy friend is now a red-hot, glowing demon. His skin is a dark red and the air around him is distorted from heat. He must be in incredible pain like that.

With a single step, he flies forward as fast as Olly Chan had just the match before. Rokuro on reaction puts up a mud wall, but Kichiro crashes right through it with a punch. Rokuro dodges the debris and uses Shunshin to dash to the other side of the arena and make some distance.

He creates four water clones, and all five copies of him unleash Water Bullets. Kichiro yells in anger, and charges forward. Each bullet strikes him head on, dousing him in water and bursting into steam. You can see his face get bloodier and bloodier, and his boddy be riddled with concussive force. Even so, the water is cooling down his jutsu so that he can use it longer.

He's taking the hits on purpose so that his organs don't cook.

After a slightly dizzy pause, your demon-like friend explodes forward with a roar. His face is bloody, and you're sure that he's having a hard time seeing. It's almost a blind rage the way he bounces from clone to clone, punching and kicking rapidly. They shower him with water, making more steam.

Rokuro stumbles as he tries to pull a kunai from his pocket, unable to do anything as Kichiro steps forward and hunkers all the way down to the ground. He stands up and throws his fist to the sky, leaping up and using all of his strength for a final uppercut that sends Rokuro up to the ceiling, and back down to the ground.

Knocked out. You look over, and see Rokuro's team smiling for some reason. Hanabi, their Jounin, has an angry frown.

Either way, you stand and cheer.

Shikamaru steps over and checks out Rokuro. He stands up a moment later. "Kichiro is the winner of this fight. Moving on."

Your friend stumbles up to your squad. He looks pretty terrible, blood dripping as he wobbles. "Heey guys..I won!"

Hanto smiles, and gives him a thumbs up. "That's right! You showed some real potential out there, Kichiro. You've really impressed me!"

Hanto's father gives him a thumbs up as well. "Same right here, kid! You're crazy as hell, and that's the best quality a fighter can have!"

Kichiro gives the weakest salute you've ever seen. "Thank yoouu..ssir...." He falls back, and leans against the wall. Within moments he's asleep. Hanto turns. "Hey nurse! Can you make sure my student doesn't die over here!"

Moments later he's carried out on a stretcher.

There isn't really a hard stat or skill system. The stats are just a general guideline, and you can find the most recent versions in previous threads on suptg.

You'll have a month to train jutsu if you win this fight. For now inventing stuff is a little beyond you, but there's tons out there to learn.

Sarasu knows that Kichiro came up with his Jutsu on his own. It's actually a failed effort at a true jutsu that Kichiro happened to discover, like the Rasengan is actually a proto to the elemental Rasengans.

All of the Jounin are worried that Kichiro is like this, because it means another fighter like Hanto and Sarasu.
