Alright, I might be struggling to breathe and be suffering from a splitting pain in my right ear from somehow damaging it by COUGHING too much... (How is that even a thing?!) But screw it. You all know what time it is!

This is the quest where you play a single individual in something much larger. Your actions as a single hero will help shape and direct your tribe from the Mesolithic, to who knows what future.

You currently have no name, no appearance and few friends, as your eccentric work to develop something new has distanced you from the day-to-day life of the tribe. More pressingly however, you have run your supply of food dry and are in danger of starving if you neglect the hunt or gathering plants any longer.

Let's deal with something that's gone un-adressed for several threads first: What is your name?

Well this is off to an interesting start...

The two genuine answers aside, does no-one have an interest in naming this tribesman? You'll be playing him for the entire first generation.

Let's go with the old faithful asskicker!
>>
Ohthankgodatiebreaker. It only took an hour...

>Trym
Jobs: Hunter 1

Strength: 2
Speed: 2
Skill: 1
Spirit: 0
Wits: 1
Charisma: 1
Equipment: Flint spear
4 javelins
Flint fishing spear
Buckskin loincloth
Goatskin jacket
Traits: None
Belongings: Two white leaves

When a roll is needed for an action, you take the relevant jobs, combined with the attribute which governs the action you are attempting and apply any relevant traits.

I will inform you of the applicable jobs, stat and traits, but I'll leave the luck up to you guys.

Now what does Trym look like?
>>
>>43489454
Sorry had dinner.

Trym is 5'10" 182 lbs lightly tanned skin say reddish brown hair green eyes. Sharp pronounced cheekbones over a jawline that could split stone. Full lips under a somewhat shaggy beard the same colour of his hair. Corded muscles leave him fit but not overly muscled. Deer skin pants cover his legs and protect from scratches. A small deer skin vest hung over his broad shoulders and partially covers a small scar around his left side ribs where a boar almost gored him.

Sorry kinda got a little carried away. Creamed my pants a little as well.
>>
>>43489601
>green eyes
I think you meant to say brown eyes. It's ok, we all make mistake.
>>
>>43490024
So is that the only part you disagree with? Or are you gonna put up your own description?
>>
I flipped a coin and it came up brown eyes

Trym is a very tall man, by the tribe's standards and his red hair unusual, but everyone knows him as a part of the family and accepts this strangeness.

It is currently late spring. Brother Elia is the only member of the tribe you can presently say you are really close too, given you spent the previous moon and a half working on your strange creations together. You have no hunting band, but you should be able to bring in enough to survive, should you chose to go to the forest. Of course, hunting carries its own risks; an angry boar like the one that gave you your scar is a threat even for a full band, much less you and 'weak-spear'.

What will do this season?

Please roll 2d10 (Wits + Hunter) to locate your prey. We'll take the highest of the first three rolls... So seeing this thread, the highest roll, period...

I may revise hunting later, into a single roll. This places too many failure-points on the players.

>>43491153
Your stomachs growling for food, you and Elia grab your spears and head for the forest. The rest of your family and the tribe are glad to see you come out of seclusion and seemingly re-devote yourselves to 'proper' pursuits. Some of the stigma of your odd seclusion seems to have stuck with you however and might require some work to patch up. You get the feeling that, until you do, or otherwise prove yourself of note, your voice may not carry as much worth to the tribe.

You spend the rest of spring partly in the forest and partly in the village, hunting and bringing back the kills to where they won't be stolen by wandering animals. Luck is on your side and while your hunt is not exceptional, it is enough to keep you both in surplus for some time, if you can bring it home. Your biggest catch is a straggler from a herd of deer that you come upon grazing.

>Roll 2d10 (Skill + Hunter) to successfully bring home a dear
>If you fail, you still have enough to feed yourselves, but not to add anything to your reserves

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a stone-age mad scientist. Lovely stuff. AND he's a lucky roller!

You wait until a doe becomes separated from the herd, stalking carefully from downwind of her. You slowly creep closer and closer, javelins already in your hands, crawling on your bellies towards your prey. For a split second, just as you're about to stand, the doe turns her head and you swear she looks straight into your eyes. Pools of deep, liquid darkness, brown as rich soil, gaze into your own. For an instant, there's half of a connection there, even as your legs are uncoiling under you, pushing you forward, your arm drawing back by instinct to cast the spear.

The weapon leaps from your hand and sails through the air straight and true, punching through her chest and driving a heavy sigh, almost sadly from her. Elia's first cast is short, but another javelin is already in your hand, plucked from the quiver as the herd reacts to your presence and bolts for the trees. The doe gathers breath and starts to scream before your second cast tears into her throat and Elia hobbles her back leg, stopping her from springing away. Time seems to have been moving like sap in the frost, but now abruptly snaps back to its normal pace, the doe falling and the rest of the herd making for the forest.

Elia calls out in triumph. "GOT her! HAH! Great spears, brother! She'll keep us fed for a full moon yet!"
>>
So uh... while we're sitting around here, anyone play any other "Ancient Not-Europe/Not-The-Cradle-Of-Mankind-or-Civilization" games? Any you guys'd suggest?
>>
>>43492752

Awesome, now lets get around to finishing up our doomsday weapon, we can be the world's first Inventor
>>
>>43492752
You gut the doe there, leaving the innards for the animals that might otherwise pursue you, before cutting out her ligaments and using them to tie the carcass to a long pole for ease of carrying. You and Elia feel pretty good about yourselves on the return to the camp and feast well on the lean meat.
"I wish they kept their fall fat all year," sighs Elia, the juice of grilled meat dribbling into his beard. "Nothing's sweeter than that."
You have to agree, but even so, venison is good all year round. The bones will prove useful too, as will the hide, once it's scraped and prepared. Clothes, bindings and other ideas come to your mind, as you pat your full belly and settle down to sleep. The skin will wait until tomorrow.

The seasons turn and soon it is early summer. You have enough food in reserve for one half-season.

Summer is the perfect season to be knee-deep in the water. As the oppressive heat bears down upon the tribe, everyone from elders to children heads to the stream. Anyone with a fish spear however, heads downstream to where it joins the valley's main river. A trio of youngsters just old enough to be trusted with the light, barbed fishing spears, come along too.

Everyone stabs their foot the first few times and it's always the worst feeling in the world. Not only do the new fishers have to dig the sharp flint out of their soft feet, but they also have to bind the wound and sit on the bank, to say nothing of the taunting from their fellows (until eventually all three of them are sitting, thoroughly humbled and nursing small wounds).

Given Elia's luck with spears, it's probably for the best that he uses his hands to catch fish, the same way they were before the tribe first took a stone or a stick in their hand and the same way bears still do. You fare somewhat better, but Elia's talent for moving quietly and carefully extends to the water as well and every so often he catches a wriggling, slick fish in his hands. As for you, you worked out long ago that the trick is to aim just a little in front of your target as it swims through your wide-apart legs and soon you have a respectable pile of silvery river fish waiting on the bank.

The early summer passes well. The tribe cannot keep the catch for too long before it goes bad, but you have enough to keep your reserves high and soon, the very height of summer comes and the uncaring sun makes you glad you chose the river's cool embrace.

I find it somewhat funny that's if we used our toy slang to throw a javelin we would have an atlatl
>>
>>43498609
Funny that, isn't it?

As it stands, the thrower's far too weedy and whippy for that, but you could well develop such a thing. In fact, it's not such a leap of imagination, so if you want to, go for it. Atlatls, slings, bows and javelins all have their uses (though admittedly, atlatls are kind of made obsolete, in my opinion, by bows)

I have returned. Sorry it took so long. And you are DAMN lucky that I take the highest of the first three rolls. By the way? On a roll of 1, there's a research accident. Not a problem now, but it may be later.

Satisfied that you have enough food to last you until the richness of fall, you and Elia go back to work on your stone-throwing device. At first you're still stuck at a dead end, but then you have a flash of insight. One evening in camp, you watch Mesut re-wrap the hide grip on his spear, that seems to have worked loose. As he tugs one end, the spear spins in his grip, faster and faster until he has to catch it as it tries to slip out of his fingers.
"THAT'S IT!" Heads turn to look at you, but you're already past caring, as you grab Elia and scramble for the deer hide and ligaments from your hunt.

It takes a few more attempts, wasting much of the hide as you try different designs, but as the weather slowly starts to turn colder, you finally have something. A small pouch of deerskin on the end of two long ligaments. You loop the ends around your fingers, place a heavy, smooth stone in the spin the device around your head. As the air starts to thrum after three rotations, you release one of the ligaments and the stone goes flying! Actually hitting a target takes much more work, but soon Elia and you are reasonably reliable. Now the only problem that remains is how to present your creation to the tribe...

You have gained a level in the 'Craftsman' job!

How will you introduce your creation to the tribe?
>Hunt with it and show its success through results 2d10 (Skill + Hunter)
>Try and present the device to the elders and convince them of its use
>Show it around the tribe and brag about what it can do

I keep hoping for more people... Screw it. More posts = more people, so I'll try and pick up the pace.

The hunt goes well with your new slings (a sleep-deprived Elia wanted to call them twirly-hurlies, but you told him to shut up) and you discover that while they can crack skulls and limbs with ease, they have less effect on the torso of a creature the size of a deer. You swear you heard ribs break, but it's not enough to stop your prey from escaping. Nevertheless, you can carry many more stones in a small bag than you can javelins and you bring home rabbits and birds aplenty. While some in the tribe are impressed by your kills with such a strange weapon, most pay it no mind. A spear or cast stone works just as well they say and are much easier to use. Further, the sling is no good against more powerful prey, like boars or bears.

The only real advocates for using the weapon are Elia and the children who first saw it as a toy and then realised they could hunt birds with it

It is now early fall. You're starting to run low on food and you now have nothing in reserve. A chill is starting to enter the air and the elders are talking about moving the tribe's camp up the valley, following the herds to where the hills turn into mountains and you will be more sheltered from the winter chill.

Like I said, it's the number of people... I'm hoping to see more now the evening's rolled around, so I can speed up again.

The fall is the perfect time to hunt. All manner of creatures are fattening themselves in preparation for the winter's chill and all manner of trees, brambles and other plants are heavy with fruit, nuts and other good things. Elia has pretty much become your hunter band, if only because the two of you are pretty much shunned by the other, more 'serious' members of the tribe. With his new sling, Elia's weak spear-arm is no longer an issue and he diligently practices every moment you're not on the hunt.

Deer, rabbits, birds and even a lame aurochs calf that fell behind its herd are a very good hunt, good enough in fact, that some of the stigma surrounding the pair of you falls away a little. Elia, of course, makes the most of it by trying to win over Galit, but his efforts seem doomed, as Mesut seems intent to have her as his forth woman and there's little Elia can do against the strong, swift man.

Your luck and skill in the hunt has allowed you to gain a rank in the Hunter job!

Just before the middle of the season, the elders instruct the tribe to break camp. Belongings are lashed together and carried on backs far up the valley, so that you can see the shine and hear the crash of the waterfall in the distance. The spray around the base and the dangerous rapids that lead down into the main valley give it an eerie feeling and no-one likes to go near. This part of the valley is less rich and has no true forests, but the folds of the land keep the tribe safe among the leaning stone ledges, sheltered from the winter wind that will soon be upon you.

It is late fall. You have enough food for one half-season. What do you do?

I should explain: In order to level up, you need to a) roll the maximum number of dice (there are reasons you may not want to); b) have half your dice be 9 or 10; and c) have the rest of your dice NOT be a 1. I had to hastily fudge this rule out of its infancy because holy fuck that's a good roll, but two levels in two seasons is pushing it. Instead...

The river in late fall is not nearly as pleasant as summer and before long, you are shivering and grumbling. You're not the only one however, as many others of the tribe have recognised that they need to stock up before the snow falls. In this late season, the river is thick with fish and they're all fat to ward off the cold, so the tribe rejoices at the bounty you and the others bring back. With so much food stored, you should be able to weather at least the first part of winter in relative comfort. The last moon or so before spring is always the hardest however and no-one looks forward to it.

Your luck and skill at fishing has granted you the Experienced Fisher trait!
>Experienced Fisher: Gain a +3 to any attempt at fishing and a +1 to resist the effects of negative events while fishing

Your last catch of the season is a large and powerful pike that decides your ankle looks like a tasty treat in the fast-flowing waters of the upper valley. As it darts forward, you spot it on instinct and drive your spear down! The fish is so strong, it nearly tears your spear out of your grasp and does its best to pull you over as you grimly hang on. In the end however, you haul it onto the bank and the other fishers cheer your good fortune! This catch should go some way towards winning back the tribe's fickle respect. As you return home with your spoils, the first few flakes of snow start to fall from the sky.

It is early winter. You have enough food for a half-season. What do you do?

As the winter closes in and the snows start to pile up, you offer a suggestion to Elia that the two of you see what you can find back down the valley. The look he gives you half-horrified and half utterly confused. "Brother, have you lost your mind?" He shrugs off the deerskin blanket he's sheltering under, just enough to gesture out into the snow. Even at the earliest point of the season, it's starting to pile up, as much as your ankle in most places and halfway to your knee in others. The tribe shelters under overhanging rocks, insulated a little from the wind by barriers of piled branches, leaves and mud. Fires are kept burning all through the winter, filling everyone's hair with the smell of smoke but, coupled with blankets and furs, keeping the lethal cold mostly at bay.

"Going out there isn't just foolish, it's death! We're not even running low on food yet and you want to go exploring, rather than hunting? I'm staying right here where it's warm and safe. If you're clever, you'll do the same."

You guys are rolling ridiculously well. Frankly, you NEEDED a 10. Maybe more if i wasn't such a nice guy. Now you get to die of hypothermia with your friend!

"Brother, come on. You're the only one I can rely on these days and without you, I'm pretty much crow food." You implore Elia to re-consider and he stirs slightly. He's not used to someone relying on him or treating him as useful. "You're my hunting band, aren't you? And I've shown you we can hunt well together. It's just this time we're hunting for something other than food. I know there's something special out there and you know it too. Those leaves were just the start-"
"You're still on about that?" Elia sighs, looking up at you again.
"I am. We both saw them burn white. I'm not saying we go looking for that bear again, just that we look for something we can use, or something amazing. Besides, you know Galit would love something to brighten up her winter. You're not going to just let Mesut walk all over you, are you?" That did it. You can see a sudden defiant light in Elia's eyes.
"No." He sighs and stands, grabbing his sling and bag of stones. "We're still going to freeze," he grumbles, "But at least I won't hear it said I let my hunting band freeze without me. The Elders can chatter about foolishness, but we both know it's courage that counts." He smacks his knuckles against yours with a weak smile. "Let's go find something amazing then."

After you leave the camp, as wrapped in furs as you can be and followed by calls of concern (as well as jeers at your stupidity), you are soon forced to admit that Elia may have had a point. But what's done is done and you press on into the cold wind and deepening snow. As you trek on, life saps from your limbs and you find yourself longing for the warmth of the tribe's fires, but eventually, after days of travel keeping as close to the lee of the valley walls as you can, you reach the slightly more sheltered forest.

Once there, out of the wind a little and with plenty of firewood, Elia admits that things could have gone a lot worse. "We were lucky we caught a break in the weather," he sighs, his breath misting before him, even with the threadbare bivouac and the fire you started keeping you from dying.
As the days pass and you press down the valley, straying away from the hunting grounds and migration paths the tribe typically keeps to, you start to see curious sights... Once, you swear you saw someone watching you beside the black silhouette of a leafless tree, before a gust of wind disturbed the swirl of the snowflakes and the figure vanished into the whiteness. Another time, the figure of a stag gives the pair of you hope for a rich meal, but it looms huger than any stag you have ever seen; as large as the mammoths the elders say your grandfather's grandfathers hunted, before the tribe came to the valley. Then, just as quickly as it appeared, it vanishes.

If only the ring of yellow, gleaming eyes in the darkness would vanish as surely as that monstrous stag... As far from the village as you have ever been, with the middle of winter closing in, you became aware that you were being stalked. Most wolves do not attack humans, but either these are very hungry, or you have passed too deep into their territory. One in particular seems less of a wolf and more of a small bear, with a white coat and scars from many battles criss-crossing its powerful body. Elia looks to you in panic, questioning what to do, as the pack circles around your camp.

>Charge the wolves and scatter them with a sudden attack
>Sling stones and javelins at the alpha to try and kill it

"Into the trees! Quick!" You call, grabbing Elia by the collar of his cloak and pulling him towards a bare hazel that stands nearby. You snatch up a burning branch from the fire and jab at the circling wolves, causing them to flinch back, before throwing it at the group and swinging up into the branches, as soon as Elia is safe. The torch flies into a snowdrift and is extinguished with a sudden hiss, but the still-burning fire keeps the wolves at bay for a time... Or rather, most of them.

All beasts fear fire; that is one of the first lessons taught to children. Fire is what first puts humans apart from animals, only later is our use of stone and wood to make tools. This lesson is so set into your heart that it is only all the more shocking when the alpha calmly approaches the fire and sniffs at it, before looking up at the tree and circling you.
"It's not afraid," gulps Elia. "It's not afraid. What is that thing? Every wolf is afraid of fire!"
You start to reply, but you're cut off, as the wolf lunges up against the tree, snapping its teeth at your trailing leg and forcing you to hastily climb higher. Standing on its hind legs, its forepaws against the trunk, you can appreciate how massive the beast is! It only backs down after you jab at it with your spear and manage to nick its ear.

You don't have time to relax however, as the wolf throws its head back and howls, the eerie sound echoing around the trees and soon joined by the chorus of its pack. It's like the pair of you are drowning in an ocean of sound so intense that you can't even hear your own voices over the din! Suddenly, the tree shudders! The huge alpha has thrown its weight against the trunk, shaking it all the way up. Again and again, it backs up and rams its powerful shoulder into the wood to try and shake you loose, like two fruits in fall!

Before Elia can stop you, you sling your cloak back over your shoulders, exposing bare, hairy arms to the chill. You take your spear in both hands and stand on the balls of your feet. Just as the wolf charges forward once more, you leap from the branch and plunge down, speartip-first, aiming for the wolf's back! With almost un-natural awareness and reflexes it leaps back however, its hackles raised and its teeth bared in a snarl as you pick yourself up from the ground. A quick glance calms at least one of your fears; your speartip is still intact; your missed plunge didn't completely disarm you. You have an odd feeling that this wolf would pick up on something like that immediately.

The alpha eyes you warily, the pack now silent and watching, still too nervous to come into the ring of firelight. It doesn't attack immediately however. Instead it snaps its jaws, lolling its tongue around and working its mouth oddly. The next moment, Elia nearly falls out of the tree and your eyes widen in shock as the wolf SPEAKS! Each word is snarled and unfamiliar, but it is unmistakably human speech, in the language of your tribe, no less!
"Prey! Two-legs prey. Fire not good. Kill! Kill two-legs. Winter food. Pack strong!" It seems almost to grin at the two hunters confusion and surprise. "Two-legs long claw. Pack fang sharp. Tear two-legs. Bite claw!" It slinks low to the ground, its yellow eyes narrowing.

Duels incorporate a little element of randomness, as opposed to those you may remember form another quest.
>Your STRENGTH determines how many dice you roll in a fierce attack and your ability to resist telling harm
>Your SPEED determines how many dice you roll in a swift maneuver, how many actions you get per turn and helps avoid being hit
>Your SKILL is most useful at range, but also determines cunning actions and helps avoid being hit

Watch your opponent and try to predict his strategy. Every enemy has weak points. Strong attacks can power through a weak defense and inflict serious damage, but if your opponent is playing defensive, it may be worth it to hold back and strike at openings. Likewise, if your opponent goes fully on the offence, you may want to use your SPEED or SKILL to try and avoid his blows.

Every turn, vote for actions up to your SPEED total. You can attack with an attribute, or defend with it, or try to do something special.

As a general rule, STRENGTH has an advantage over SKILL; SKILL has an advantage over SPEED; and SPEED has an advantage over strength. Using this will help add bonuses to your rolls. Good luck!
>>
The white wolf paws at the snow, eyeing first the fire, then you. Its heckles raise as its snarling increases in volume. It seems it's done talking and now just wants your blood. It also seems to be watching Elia warily, as if it knows he could still be a threat, even in the tree.
"Brother?" Elia calls out, "Am I going mad, or did that thing just speak?" He slowly un-winds his sling from his forearm and looks to you for instruction.

>What do you do?
>You have SPEED 2, so can use 2 actions

I may have to have a Q&A session about this combat system... Seems there's a little confusion

Trym uses...
>Swift defense to stay out of the white wolf's grasp 20 (6+4d10 Basic +Speed +Hunter)
>A fierce attack to tear through an opening! 23 (4d6 Strength +Hunter)

The White Wolf uses...
>A fierce attack, meaning to seize Trym in its mighty jaws 17 (2+4d10 Speed advantage +Strength +Levels)
>A strong defense, hardening its body against anything from Elia in the tree 21 (6+3106 Basic +Strength +Levels)
>A swift attack, looking to leap past the fire 23 (2+4d10 Speed advantage +Speed +Levels)

>Trym is hit once at +3
>The White Wolf is hit once at +2

Sorry that took so long. I actually had to nerf the White Wolf as his first set of attacks would have killed Trym in one round... I don't want you guys to have to start a new hero so soon!

Next comes description and we see if either has taken a telling blow.

>Trym rolled 14. No injury
>The White Wolf rolled 15. No injury

You trust to your speed to keep you safe from those savage jaws and lunge forward, lashing out with your spear and roaring a cry! At the same instant, the White Wolf tenses its back legs and leaps clean over the fire, its red maw agape and aimed for your neck! Only your reflexes save you from serious injury as you duck under the wolf's body and heave upwards with the haft of your spear. The beast's savage strength still bowls you over and its claws rake at your chest and face as you heave it off and scramble to your feet, leaving only superficial cuts and grazes. Unfortunately, your chance to skewer the monster is gone and all you managed to do was bruise its ribs.

The white wolf swiftly rolls upright again and prowls back and forth, eyeing you. It seems to have forgotten about Elia and instead grows more and more agitated, moving in a circle with you at the centre, its paws kicking up powder snow as it gains in speed...

>What do you do?

>>43508101
Before the next round however, let's clear up a few things, shall we? What is the main confusion with the combat system?

Each turn, you queue up actions to be used. These can use Strength, Speed, or Skill (and uncommonly, other attributes). You may queue a number of actions equal to your Speed.

These actions are revealed simultaneously, as shown in >>43508042 and resolved. Advantages are then applied. If an attack beats the highest (modified) defense against it, the difference is applied in the damage step.

If a character has taken damage, they roll dice equal to their strength, minus the total of all modifiers from this turn and all previous turns. If they fail to roll a higher total than 12, then they receive a wound that modifies their stats until healed. Some particularly grievous wounds can be PERMANENT. Damage from previous turns is then re-set to zero and the duel continues.

Is that clear enough?

When a target has no readied defense against an attack, they roll the higher of their skill or speed to defend, but may not add levels! This defense does still benefit from advantages however.

Trym uses...
>Hold back and observe the wolf. Wait for an opening and
>Fierce attack! 30 (4d10+4 Strength +Hunter +Readied action)

The White Wolf uses...
>Swift attack, dashing past you and snapping at your flank! 20 (2+4d10 Speed advantage +Speed +Levels)
>Swift attack, trying to drag you to the ground! 19 (2+4d10 Speed advantage +Speed +Levels)
>Swift attack, aiming for your legs to pull you off-balance! 30 (2+4d10 Speed advantage +Speed +Levels)

>Trym prepares a swift defense! 24 (6+2d10 Basic +speed)
>The White Wolf prepares a swift defense! 21 (6+3d10 Basic +speed)

>Trym rolled 2. His leg is savaged and torn, reducing his Speed by 1!
>The White Wolf rolled 5. Its flank is gashed, reducing its Strength by 1!

You carefully watch the alpha as it circles around you, faster and faster. Slow kicks up behind it as its paws blur in the dim light. Suddenly, like a flash of lightning, it lunges for you, its jaws snapping! You barely manage to get out of the way in time, before it is upon you again, trying to drag you down! You throw yourself aside a second time, only to find the wolf has got your measure and you howl in pain as its jaws snap shut for a third time, this time around your leg. Its head shakes back and forth, savaging your calf, before you swing your spear around and drive it forward, opening a long, bloody gash along the wolf's flank and causing it to yelp. The wolf lets go and leaps back, the cut draining its stamina, even as your wounds force you to limp.

The wolf has blood dripping from its jaws and it laps at them, panting. It's wary this time, hanging back, its lean body tensed and ready to spring away. Despite its wound, it still looks eager to bring you down, lowering its body and tensing its legs as it growls.

>The White Wolf rolled 9. Its neck is gouged, reducing its Strength by 1!

Wary after its wound, the alpha seems reluctant to close in on you again. It makes a couple of abortive leaps, as if trying to bait you out, but you refuse to be lured! Instead, you set the butt of your spear into the earth and wait for your chance. It comes as the wolf loses patience and leaps, diving for your neck and meaning to finish you now! Instead, you duck back, covering yourself with your arm and guiding the speartip towards the creature's open mouth! It barely manages to shift its weight in time to save it from a spear to the brain, but even so, you tear a ragged strip from its neck and blood pours from the wound! As it comes down, you switch your position a little, giving it a hasty kick in the rump to add insult to the injury!

The wolf looks haggard now, but the wounded animal is always the most dangerous! It snarls, the flow of blood slowing before your eyes and stopping far sooner than any ordinary creature should heal. It doesn't look any stronger, but it's not going to bleed out. Pity. Its mouth opens and its shoulders hunch, squaring its posture as it prepares to come at you with everything it's got!

Sorry, but boar spears are a way off yet. At the least they'd need bronze and ideally, iron or tempered steel.

So far the votes seem to be for a skill-based defense using the fire and are split on the method of attack. While both agree to use the fire, I believe it's split between strength and skill.

Oooh, Trym looks like he's in a bad situation there... The good news is that damage on the same turn is rolled individually and only totaled for later turns if Trym doesn't take an injury this time around.

But because it's late and I'm an evil bastard, I think I'm going to call this thread here. We'll find out if Trym lives or dies next time!

You can find the next thread here on /tg/ at 5pm Eastern on Monday 9th. I'll even take time out from playing Fallout to run it for you guys. Until then, stay safe and have a great weekend. If you're in the Commonwealth, be sure to attend the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at your local war memorial.
