Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
The smell of the the sea has always one you had loved, Blackwater Bay had become your childhood love, the Narrow Sea one that grew into adulthood, and now upon Shipbreaker Bay you found a particular love for the churning choppy nature of the infamous sea. Lord Renfred Rykker, your traveling companion upon the Caligae, was not of similar mind, often spending his waking hours retching over the side of the ship. He rarely took his meals with you as you had expected, instead wishing to seclude himself in his quarters and brood away the days wishing for land, worse than Dontos even. The short break in Storm’s End to collect the few Storm and Reach Lords that lingered after was a god’s send for the Lord and for a moment you thought he had intended to race across the land to your destination of Sunspear but was dissuaded to the thought by the sheer impracticality. His companions were not of such a poor mind as their Lord however, the captain of his guard Ser Morton Massey had taken to yourself and Ser Lucas Longwaters rather well, being of a relatively similar age and disposition towards sailing.

Ser Lucas and yourself spent your waking hours upon the deck of the ship, cutting with her crew and the captain, a man of Dragonstone originally, who fought for the Dragons during the Rebellion and was taken into service thereafter by Lord Stannis Baratheon. Dontos and Benjin spent their time together with a few members of a less than military mind that had accompanied Lord Rykker. In fact when you had first encountered many of the other Lords and their small retinues you had found them to be far less martial than your own. Between yourself, Wesley, Lucas and Dontos you outnumbered a fair few of them. Between the other Lords, an item of note, not to be forgotten that the strong martial traditions of your House had yet to die, even in what was in truth a diplomatic mission. It bothered you little, allow them their idle chatter, you were chosen for reason by Lord Jon Arryn.
>>
A brief audience with the Lord Hand had given you a smaller insight to his mind when you were in Storm’s End. He had smiled his toothless smile when he saw you with your hair of silver again, seemingly aware of its original color all along, Hardly a poor sign for yourself, he still saw his purposes in you, and while you were never one to allow someone to use you as their pawn at present moment it was an ‘advantageous’ sacrifice. You had wished to speak to him of the Lady Giselle Grafton, her words still echoed in your mind, of seemingly little worth. It niggled at you in the back of your mind, surely he was not so senile to believe your would roll over and allow him to force upon you someone with no inherent worth to yourself? Not when your House was in such a poor condition. Word had come to your ear Lady Giselle and her knightly brother Ser Grover had accompanied Lord Arryn on the voyage, perhaps you would find time to gather further detail while in Dorne.

Not to say your mind did not keep upon what you may find their, Lady Obella Qorgyle still sat fresh upon your mind as well, the sweet taste of an afternoon tryst still danced upon your lips. She had told you many things but the most valuable, an ally in Dorne. You did not know of what she spoke, or of whom. Prince Doran was your host, but his younger brother Prince Oberyn was the source of the problem, whipping Dorne into a frenzy, isolating their sandy domains from the rest of Westeros, either was a formidable ally to have, but that was thinking far above where you stood. Or so you thought. These thoughts often frustrated you, and they soon turned back to Lady Obella and her sweet songs of passion to help wash yourself of it.
>>
As you stood upon the prow and swept such idle thoughts away you saw the glimmer of Estermont, your second stop before the stretch across the Sea of Dorne to Sunspear, one that would last a week at least. You sigh deeply and feel the tug of your son upon your cloak, Victus stood smiling at you with an uneven mixture of baby and adult teeth, his tangle of brown hair now cut back upon the sides with the top pulled into a tight bun upon the back made him look far beyond his age. He had recently turned nine, while you were at sea, and you had celebrated with the crew that was happy for any reason to open a cask. He felt at home upon the sea, not unlike yourself, felt at ease traveling about, you were happy to have him along and not have to explain to him why his father would be leaving him for a fair few months again.

“Father?” he asks after you nod to him.

“Yes Victus?” you respond, pulling him close to your side.

“I like this ship, it’s not as pretty as Captain Thros’, but the crew is nice. The captain even shares a last name with me!”

He was happy for the mark of bastardy, it mattered little to him, a mere word, Waters, it ate at your heart, but he regarded it with a grace beyond his years, he was more like your sister than yourself. Calm and collected, quick of thought and word but with practiced restraint. Dontos’ teachings had not been lost upon him, he had taken to it far better than you knew your Uncle had expected. Benjin had continued his teachings of letters and numbers when their was time to spare. Dontos and Lucas had kept him plenty busy alongside the latter's new squire, Grant Conklyn. The boy had a fair number of years on your son, but was kind in his approach and word, a good sign for the heir of a House. They would practice their swordsmanship upon the deck, Dontos would keep Victus in the evening after dinner for their prayers, a more spirited endeavour ever since the Sept in Steadhold had begun its reconstruction.
>>
1st for the Mannis
>>
You smile to your son and squeeze his shoulder, “Is that so Victus?”

“Mhm, he says that it takes a brave man to reach for the stars with such a name, I don’t feel so brave. Is only a name.”

You laugh a moment, “‘Tis indeed Victus, only a name. Come, would you like to practice with your bow a moment?”

He shakes his head furiously in response, it was a small contribution to his teachings but one you felt necessary, House Malroy was famed for her archers, your son bastard or not would learn the same from you. The crew enjoyed your sessions of practice, the name ‘Lord Blackshaft’ still fresh upon their tongues and your prowess with a bow was a much needed distraction. They had taken to throwing objects over the sea for you to take aim at and shatter before it reached the water. A small game, and one you enjoyed, Victus even more so despite his aim being below your own.

This practice session was no different, small basket of rotten fruit had become your quarrel today, the oranges made for a good solid target with just enough meat to them to really get a good throw in. You did not waste the ebony arrows Ser Lucas had given you instead a quiver with a mishmash of lesser quality, though it mattered little.

You breathe in deep, filling your chest as you drew your bow again and nodded to the sailor beside you to take his turn. In the corner of your eye you see your cousin Ser Wesley Hayford rearing up to your side, his face a mixture of concern.

“Wesley?”

“Brynden, a moment?”

“Here is fine cousin.”
>>
He exhales and the sailor chucks his fruit, your eyes train upon it and watch its descent, he continues, “Do you know how Lord Rykker came to poor cousin?”

“Fought for the Dragon in the Defiance of Duskendale, was awarded her lands and incomes for his part. Despite Ser Barristan Selmy being the one to have done the true deed.”

“Indeed cousin. And while House Darklyn was destroyed her many branches were not. Example, House Darkwood. Of which there is a member upon this ship. Ser Drake Darkwood, with a sigil not unlike the one found by Ser Cyrus Chyttering.”

Your mind takes this information in, while also keeping to task, watching the orange fall into your range. You had not forgotten of the small conspiracy within your lands, Dontos even less so, and this was the first possible lead since meeting with Lady Alexes Chelsted. Perhaps a meeting with this Ser Drake Darkwood would be of worth. Though the approach of such was important, you did not doubt he was aware of your presence, but how much he was aware of you, your bow, and emerald eyes upon middays summer sun was unknown. Surely an easy task to intimidate, but perhaps a more diplomatic track would be of worth. You did not know the Lord Renfred Rykker well, but you doubted he would like word of you intimidating one of his swornswords in the open.

Your brow tightens and your eyes focus, you had almost missed your shot in your thoughts. A small window of time.

You crack your jaw.
Ready.
Aim.
Loose.

Let's not provoke the other members of the hand's Peace Party just yet.

We should stick together on a mission together.

Wonder how Dontos/Brynden would react to the War of the Five Kings if they are still alive.
Would they risk losing everything again by siding with Stannis or would they side with Cersei even though they'd rather make peace with Royce Redward/marry and cherish a woman before bowing to her Royal Bitchiness.
>>
>>43484981

>be diplomatic

Considering our standing with the other houses and characters, many of whom are pretty high up on the totem pole, it's best not to use intimidation tactics.

Can you also post a link to the pastbin of our current houses standings with other lords/characters in the OP for further reference?
>>
>>43485136
Thank you for reminding me that I used the old OP.

I'll have that replaced and that will be among them on Saturday, yes.
>>

>Wonder how Dontos/Brynden would react to the War of the Five Kings if they are still alive
... stay out of it? Send only token forces, and only that if explicitly ordered to participate?
>>
>>43485133
Since neither of them gives two shits about Stannis and know they arent exactly located well enough to join him they will be on Joffrey's side.

However that will probably change if Aegon's invasion gets through the stormlands
>>
>>43485133
Pretty sure after renly dies brynden at least would go "actually fuck everyone, cersei is cersei, stannis follows the red god, the north getting independence doesn't do shit for me."
>>
>>43485241
Not that he actively would've supported renly because he's in a bad location for that, but he would've been rooting for him. If anything he'd help out tyrion while that was an option because anyone cersei and tywin dislike is a-okay in his book.
>>
>>43485241
>after renly dies
Fuck him too desu.

Asshole usurper relative? Thank God we have Dontos who isn't at all interested in going down that path.
>>
>>43485266
I get the feeling we would like Tyrion immensly after a few verbal spars.
>>
>>43485241
When Dany comes back to Westeros you are all going to be sorry when you get flamed by dragons!

Any moment now.....

And fuck Renly. The upsurpers brother.
>>
>>43485273
Following the red god should automatically exclude you from succession, it just wasn't an issue that came up before so
>>
>>43485290
Not really, he is the imp lannister. A lannister.

Fuck the lannister
>>
>>43485306
Yeah, but hes also the biggest fuck you to cersi (the only one whos actually done anything to us) and we dislike his dad on principle.
>>
>>43485273
>>43485292
Again, the crimes of rheagar and the mad king are similar enough to that which we have suffered that I don't think we REALLY blame Robert and co for rebellion, especially since all the "war crimes" were under tywin's banner.
>>
>>43485319
No anon. We fucking hate all of them just by their family name.

Fuck Tyrion, fuck Twin, fuck Cersei and fuck Kevin.
>>43485330
Bullshit. This would never had happened if he couldnt hold on to his goddamn woman
>>
>>43485306
yeah but hey if the Martell's can be amiable enough with him surely the Malroys can too right?
>>
>>43485348
No anon. I disagree, we hated the userper king first, then we put a jab at the lannisters, it turned to fuck you lannister when cersi stuck her hat in the cock measuring ring.

We still pretty much dislike robert, but we hate redwood more.
>>
>>43485319
>bryden helps out Jon Arryn, then ned stark, then tyrion, eventually the malroys working for the hand is just considered the new normal and continues on for as long as the position of hand exists
>>

I would be ok with that norm.
>>

so what happens when Tywin rolls back in as the Hand?
>>

>Jon Arryn, then ned stark, then tyrion
Don't forget Tywin after Tyrion and later Mace Tyrell.
>>
>>43485373
Anon we don't hate Redward. We fucking loath the bastard so hard that if it were possible to hate someone to death we would. Then he'd be brought back and killed again. And again. And again. And again.
>>
>>43485348
If we hated Robert so much how could we ever justify working with the Arryn? If anything he was the overall initiator of the whole rebellion.

Rhaegar and the mad king committed crimes.
>>
>>43485408
>>43485410
We basically try to ignore him enough he drops dead. If that just takes a few years then fine.
>>
>>43485410
We'll stay out of king's landing for tywin and kevan (although maybe not kevan becausw counterbalancing cersei is fairly important on its own) then come back for mace.

>No anon. We fucking hate all of them just by their family name.
Gonna be fun when the Septon arrives in town and says he's a Lannister.

Success, two degrees.

Your arrow flies true over the short distance, the sweet thrum resounds in your ear, your eyes keeping on the orange. The arrow shatters the unfortunate fruit a moment before it hits the water, the mess of thick rotten pulp exploding with a satisfying flair. You click your tongue and the sailors gathered about clap and whoop to yet another fine shot. Victus smiles and bounces with his usual happiness to watching you perform. You pat his head and regard your cousin fully. He had the makings of a beard beginning, though one of youth, and he scratched at it idly, uncomfortable with it but being unable to do anything upon the sea. You had taken to regrowing your own, your silver hair extending into the goatee and mustache of a van dyke with the rest of your beard attempting to keep up on the sides. The sides of your moustache curled up a mite and you found yourself playing with it not unlike Illiad would his fu manchu.

Mind upon task you unstring your bow and nod to Wesley, “Cousin, if you would, find Ser Drake Darkwood and bring him to my quarters. I would like word with him. Victus?”

“Yes father?”

“Go to the galley, find a cask of wine,” you plant a coin in his hand, “This should be enough to pry it from the supply master’s hands.”

The boy nods and bounds off, your cousin watches him with a smile, “Rare it is to see Brynden.”
>>
>>43485430
We like Arryn just because he helped us when he had no real reason to.
Like mind, its not developed to the point of agreeing with everything he says.

I still think marrying his chosen match for us is a bad idea. Just simply because it puts us on an awkward kilter with her branch house (that is now the main). Having someone happly standing on your fingers so you never become a threat (since any child would inherit a claim to their lands) is not something we want right now.
>>
You frown, knowing the meaning behind his words and nod him off to task. The sailors about you begin to disappear going about their daily tasks and you move from the deck to your quarters. A small quaint thing, nothing you were not used to in your years among the Second Sons. You take a place behind your table, playing with the map of Dorne that Benjin had left for you, tracing over the principle banners of House Martell you note the Yronwoods, Daynes, Tolands, Santagars, and finally the Qorgyles. It occurs to you how little of those Houses you actually knew, you did not even know the Lord of House Qorgyle. Perhaps Benjin would be able to shed light upon the subject…

A knock upon your door interrupts your thoughts and you call to enter. Wesley comes in, his motley of green and yellow being as ridiculous as ever and behind him Ser Drake Darkwood. A tall man, built much like Dontos, his hair kept shaven to a near baldness, but the dark chinstrap beard giving tell to its likely color. His eyes are a dark brown and he regards you with a simple nod attempting to meet your own. You respond in kind and invite him to sit, allowing your eyes to graze over the pin upon his doublet. It was like that of House Darklyn but the colors were off, reversed on both sides. You attempted to recall the pin that Lady Alexes had shown you, if you remembered correctly only the colors on the right had been reversed, not a match, but close enough to get a proper name.

Victus scampers in with a cask under his arm, a servant following after with a dish of hard cheese and fruits and you smile to your son, a small sign of thanks before he leaves off with Wesley, Leaving yourself alone with Ser Drake.

“Ser Drake, wine?”

“Yes, thank you my Lord,” he responds, his voice far less gruff than his appearance would suggest.
>>
You pour two cups and hand him one, and finger at a bit of cheese before regarding him again fully, he seemed nervous to be in your presence. His eyes scanned your person, falling upon the silver hair more than once. You allow the idle silence to continue, hoping to allow the man’s thoughts stew a moment longer.

“My Lord? I do not doubt your hospitality, but may I ask why you wished audience with me? No more than a Household Knight of House Rykker.”

You chew on your cheese and take a drink, he follows after taking his first, you smile and speak, “I had want of a… History lesson good Ser.”

“History, my Lord?”

“Yes, of your House. I find my knowledge lacking of the branches of House Darklyn.”

He frowns and picks at a grape, “My Lord I am no maester. I know little.”

You roll your eyes and pop your own grape into your mouth, “Ser Drake, you do yourself a disservice, surely, you know something, lessons from youth, perhaps?”

Ser Drake rolls the grape on the plate with his index finger and sniffles a bit, “Perhaps… A little?”

Your eyes beg him on and he looks more confused than convinced. Not a bright man by any stretch, no doubt. But he may know enough to gather a name. That is all you needed, a name.

I would suggest approaching this claiming we believe someone is missappropriating the name of the dead house and this may end up routing back to him and the other branches. More of a freindly warning than anything serious (while we info fish), it could end up having more people watching these bandit bands, which should be in our benefit if things come to court over accusations of slaughtering someones men.

Success. One degree.

You attempt to narrow down your query, too broad a subject, not personal enough.

“A little is far more than I know Ser Drake, another?”

He nods quickly and you pour another glass, keeping your movements precise, practiced, your eyes never leaving his own.

“Perhaps of local history than Ser Drake? How did you come by your knighthood?”

He shifts uncomfortably, “In service, my Lord.”

“To whom?”

“The King. House Darkwood served the Targaryens my Lord. A white cloak knighted me before the Sack. Some good it did me.”

You nod along, in truth you had expected the branches of House Darklyn to fight alongside the Baratheons, given the Defiance was still a fresh memory.

“And how did you find yourself in service to Lord Renfred, ser?”

“Like minded individuals,” he drains his second cup, and looks to the cask and you wave him allowance, unmoving from your leaned back state.

“In service I assume?”

“Yes my Lord.”

He sits quiet, drinking his third cup with nervous sips and you attempt to keep the conversation moving, “Tell me Ser Drake. Did the other branches agree with your own?”

He frowns, “No my Lord. House Darke and Dargood fought for the Baratheons.”

Two names, less than ideal, but narrowed down. If they fought for the usurper than it was not a strong throw away from working with his dogs. Like Royce.

“I do not know these names Ser Drake. What can you tell me of them?”

He struggles with his thoughts, placing the cup down and attempting not to meet your gaze, “Little and less, my Lord. House Darke is all but gone. While the Dargoods... Keep to themselves.”
>>
>>43485978
Victus is kind of defacto the heir. It'd just be a bit of a shitstorm getting him to stay as house head without our sisters child bumping him off due to land claim vs a bastard.
>>
Jesus can we stop arguing about this for now? All that's being accomplished is pushing the thread towards auto sage.

He was lying, his eyes averted far too much, and his manner was nervous. His tongue had been plied loose by far too much wine too quickly and he was attempting to cover his tracks. But you did not of what information would be worthwhile to gather. In truth you could not even rule out his own House, far too many possibilities with such interwoven family ties. Perhaps a new route… Or be done with it, you at least had possibilities now.

A new approach, he was drunk, the heat of the day and quick cups had left an obvious buzz in his head. You did not need to be dramatic, but add just enough of a warning to get his mind turning. You pick at another piece of cheese allowing the silence to continue a moment longer, and he sips at his wine.

“Ser Drake, may I share something of a private nature with you?”

“I… Er yes, my Lord?”

“Would I have it upon your honor such words stay between us?”

He pauses and attempts to meet your eyes a moment longer than he wished, “On my honor.”

“Just so. Ser Drake, the Malroy lands have never had issues with banditry. No doubt the lands of Duskendale is much the same. But as of late… I find my smallfolk attacked and mutilated. Lead by a rogue robber Knight, and do you know what he told me?”

Ser Drake has turned pale, looking at his cup, “What my Lord?”

“That a member of House Darklyn had hired him. He was some lowborn filth no doubt, unaware of what he was truly looking at. And I disregarded the claim. Until I received another. From a neighbor, Lady Chelsted. Do you know her Ser?”

“Of her my Lord.”
>>
>>43486298
I mean, obviously we aren't going to challenge the crown before we have a good shot at it, but I don't want those fucking Baratheons to stay in power.

You do know they rewarded a guy for raping and murdering our family, right?
>>
“Then you would know she is a virtuous woman. Not one to make claims without purpose. Upon her own lands she found another of these robber knights, and he, he carried a pin of House Darklyn.”

You allow the thoughts to sink in, his face a mixture of drunken buzz and worry and you speak again while his lips move to form something of a response, “I would not ask of your House without interest in giving her fair warning Ser Drake. If the King were to find out one of the branches of House Darklyn were moving about the shadows, using dead names for darker purposes. Particularly against my own. Disturbing the King’s Peace in a sense even.”

“Yes… The King’s Peace… I- hrm. Thank you my Lord but I do not… I do not know how I can be of service to you in exchange. I am-”

“A Household Knight. Amongst Houses of forgotten name. I only need whatever information you can give Ser Drake.”

A bead of sweat traces his forehead and he goes for a fourth cup.

Well, according to -Targaryen- succession men and women inherit equally. According to the -Andal- succession pushed by the faith of the Seven and the Maesters of Oldtown, succession is agnatic-cognatic.

Success. Two degrees.

His eyes finally make purposeful contact with your own. Staring into the dark emerald that drank in the darker quarters, glints of color from the window’s sun, “I only know their colors and of smaller details my Lord. Would that be of worth?”

“More than Ser, please continue.”

“House Darke was almost wiped out in the Defiance… Her head is Ser Dover Darke, an elder man with no issue. Lost in the Rebellion. They reverse the left of their arms.”

Not a match, “And of the Dargoods?”

He lips a few words, a silent prayer, and attempts to form thought, “They… Did not take the extinction of the Darklyns well, they were considered second among the family. Ser Theon Dargood is her head now, a young man. Unmarried. He’s attempting to court Lord Rykker’s daughter. Their arms are as before only the right is reversed.”

There it is, you had a name. House Dargood. At least you hoped it was a match, they could still be using false names in a hopes to cover their tracks. But it was far more lead than you had before. If only you knew what to do with it from here.

“Thank you Ser Drake. Your help is invaluable. Please, do help yourself to the rest of the wine.”

“My thanks my Lord. If… If you have further need of my aid… Perhaps a raven to Duskendale? A ride to Steadhold is not more than a few days.”

“Well thought, Ser Drake.”

The Knight goes to leave, the alcohol hitting him even harder as he stands, the cask under his arm and he stumbles off. Wesley meanders in watching him with an unease eye.

“He will not enjoy that later tonight cousin,” he says with a laugh.
>>
“Little matter. We have a name. House Dargood, the arms match at least.”

“Hrm… Lady Chelsted might be happy to hear that. Though what good is it to us now?”

“Little, Wesley. We need but watch, they were sloppy before, we may catch them being the same again soon. If they are working with Royce, then there is likely a chance one is among his Household.”

“A Household we have no eyes in… We do not even know to whom he is married.”

Your brow furrows and you nod in agreeance. You had no idea what Royce was up to over in Redwatch Tower, word hardly traveled your way, even as close as you were. And you disliked it immensely. Wesley stays with you awhile speaking of small thoughts of the subject, a theory comes to his head that perhaps the Dargoods wish to retake Duskendale, alliances among the Crownlands and a marriage to House Rykker would give them a solid claim and power base. If they were working with the Redwards that may very well be another enemy, small as they were.

Wesley leaves off after news arrives you should make port in Greenstone within the day, likely later in the evening. You had a moment to speak with some of your retinue, if you so desired.

>>
>>43487144
>which pops did... not expect us to do
Well, why not? If the Crown is forcing us into unbelievable debt, then it follows that they don't want us squashed like bugs before we can pay it. And since they also deny us the right to raise knights in any numbers, it only makes sense that the crown would use their own to protect us.

>>
>>43487186
Hey i'm not arguing basically everything we've done makes perfect sense to me, but the fact remains that he was expect us to do as best we could with our military, and balanced around that, then we... didn't.

Speaking of all the bandits in redward's lands, how about inviting mercenaries to camp out in on our border with him to offer their services to merchants that traveling the gold road? Making sure they remember who it was that pointed them at all this business if a fight breaks out.
>>
>>43487219
No. We need to fill our numbers with men-at-arms and pikemen instead of small elite units.
>>
>>43487219
We already have the sons. Stick them on horses and you have a nice elite unit.

We need more infantry, the cavalry side to go all persion will have to wait until we are more well developed and not in a stand off with a stronger millitary force.
>>
>>43487206
>Unless his men are little better than bandits and its infact his army.

that is basically what they are, they have little training (mechanically I belive father said they are green) besides how to pillage, rape & fight basically but have no discipline or finesse about them.
>>
>>43487241
We have a limit to the number of men we can have, not how awesome they are. I mean we should definitely get closer to that limit first but there's merit in elite units when you're in our position.
>>
>>43487241
Mounted archers should be the bread and butter of our military. I'm not sure what Redward has, but mounted archers negate the advantages of pretty much all troops.

If we could get some siege weapons(though I'd rather not copy I&H), we could easily destroy Redwards forces.
>>
If I recall correctly, Redward only has a tower and next to no Holdings, right? Our best bet is to outlast him. We have no lands not directly under the aegis of Steadhold, which Redward has no hope of seiging out if we fill out the garrison with archers and maybe some catapults
>>
>>43487284
So if we build up a decent infantry core and then a solid ranged component we could theoretically facerole him on pure discipline.
Add in the sons as horse archers and we are adding a component none of our foes know how to effectively fight.

In a pitched battle, we would use the horse archers to bait out the opponents knights/cavalry, then lead them into an ambush to mob with infantry.

>>43487315
No. Infantry lines are the bread and butter. Horse archers have no defensive staying power. If you need to hold a position (very likely considering westeros terrain as opposed to open plains) they are naff without a line to anchor to.
>>
>>43487315
Mounted archers are fucking terrible mechanically and even if they were houseruled to be better they would still be useless for defending a castle, which is what we need. We cannot take Redward in the open field. It will not happen. What we do have is better income than him and a much much better fortification, preventing him from taking our lands. We need Garrison units, Archers, and Guerellas for going on the offensive sneaky-like
>>
>>43487284
Father has said that redward has been making green troops with his power but afterwards has been grinding them up.
>>
>>43487327
A fortified tower and half our land.
>>
It is deep into the evening when you finally land in Greenstone, your ship roughly near the middle of the line. Lord Rykker is far ahead of you, Ser Drake teetering by his side, rushing to the castle for want of solid food and soft bed, you idle a bit longer among the port. Estermont was no Tarth but it was a beautiful view all the same, the idea of living upon an island was interesting, landlocked as you generally were in Steadhold.

Lucas comes to your side and watches the fires of the other ships as they’re directed into the port made heavy with their strain. In the distance you could see Fury, Lord Stannis’ flagship sailing away with her envoy. House Estermont would be providing the Hand’s fleet her escort the rest of the way to Dorne, and along the way home, to be exchanged with Tarth. Lord Stannis seemed prickly the moment you had laid eyes upon him, fleeting as they were. And though he sat at a seat of respect in Storm’s End he did not do so with a happiness. You were unsure of the measure of the man, and were happy to not have to speak with him. Lord Arryn had made mention at some point he may wish it, the Valyrian Houses plot still a scant memory on his mind. And yours from time to time.

“Lord Brynden. There was a messenger for you when we landed.”

“Oh what Ser Lucas?”

“The Hand of the King wishes audience with you when you’re available. Only you. It would appear Lord Estermont is hosting a rather lavish feast. And I’ve want of food and mayhaps one last tryst before…”

You fix him with a steady gaze and he rolls his eyes, “Of all people to shame me in my pursuits of women.”

You laugh, “Only because the boy is with you. Otherwise I would not speak a word of it.”
>>
He grumbles in response, “Well no promises. I can always pawn him him off on Wesley or maybe get him a whore of his own, he is of an age.”

You roll your eyes again, feeling almost like Illiad for a moment and continue to laugh. Ser Lucas leaves off and you find yourself amongst the trains traveling to the castle. At the gate you find Ser Grover Grafton awaiting you, not looking any particular degree of pleased or displeased.

“My Lord Malroy.”

“Ser Grafton. Escort I presume.”

“Correctly.”

“Very well. Let us be off.”

The walk with Ser Grover is awkward, the last time you had met with him formally he was rather drunk and you ended up kissing his sister in the gardens of King’s Landing. Well she kissed you, but in the eyes of a protective brother with a chip on his shoulder the distinction was lacking. You find yourself in a tall tower overlooking the sea with Lord Jon Arryn watching out over it, his young page lifting the kettle to his table and being waved off.

“Lord Arryn, a pleasure, as always.”

“Likewise, Lord Malroy. Tea?”

“I would be loathe to decline.”

“Very good my Lord,” Lord Arryn pours two cups of tea and you take the offered one with the seat to his side, looking out over the dusk filled sky and the sea of ships still wating to dock.

“My Lord Malroy, I trust the trip has been well to you?”

“More than my Lord. Again, I thank you, again, for the invitation.”

He mumbles and nods before turning the conversation to a new topic, “Lord Brynden. Do you remember Ser Wilson Celtigar?”

How could you forget you grit your teeth and stare out over the sea, “I would rather not my Lord Hand. Why?”

“While a sea I received news from the Crownlands. Concerning him, and House Celtigar in general. Of interest my Lord?”

>Speak of House Celtigar

The big advantage horse archers have, is that they can inflict their damage and bugger off before the enemy can really respond. In a prolonged engagement, even with inferior starter stats, they will be much easier to level up and to inflict damage with for minimal loss.

We do need infantry for the garrisons yes. But provided we do some serious millitary expansion, our economy should let us flesh out a millitary faster than he can over time, so we could take him on the field in a few months.

Problem is: we cant declare war without a cause, and even redwood is not attacking us directly since he would get shat on. Hes using the house we took the ring from as an ally/merc to fuck with everyone.

>prolonged engagement

We will never win a battle on an open field with Redward. Stealth is our only hope on the offensive considering he has crap for fortification and no discipline. We need infantry and archers to make our own domain unassailable until Redward's idiocy catches up with him.

He can't sustain his current strength, especially considering he picked Cersei for an ally, who practically makes it a rule to screw over people who throw their lot in with her.
>>
>>43487573
We are building our forces, when we can actually face him on a open battlefield we will have a propper standing army capable of fighting redward on equal footing (unequal if we can make it that way).

Hitting him with stealth tacs is going to burn us badly, we need this to be open and above board, because we do not have the prestige to weather being the aggressor (even though we arnt) in this situation.

We will win an open fight with him, because by time he gets to us we are going to fuck with his men with hit and run archer attacks, then grind his ass to death on equal par.

If the Lord Hand deems it worthwhile, then so should you. You sip at your tea, tasted of… Myr. Illiad would know specifically. In the time since your first meeting with Lord Arryn you had dedicated small portions to remembering your teas across the Narrow Sea, a small thing to speak of, your knowledge was not vast, but enough to entertain. You speak after a moment chewing the thought of, “Always of interest Lord Hand.”

“Would it surprise you to know Ser Wilson took flight my Lord?”

You sit quiet for a moment, he had threatened as much, but you thought he had lost his nerve, hoping only to draw you into his plans and away from is father, “To… Where? With whom?”

“I was hoping you could tell me Lord Malroy.”

You frown deeply and sip at your tea again, “He spoke of fleeing to Essos. With his sister.”

“Which?”

“The unmarried one no doubt, Lady… Lady Helena?”

Lord Arryn now sits quiet, he knew the answer, only wished to confirm, his tea is finished and he pours another cup, offering you the same which you decline. He speaks again, “My Lord, the Lord Celtigar is mad with wrath, his youngest son, Willas, has also disappeared. A squire to his elder brother I am told. He appealed to the court in King’s Landing. Claiming you are to blame for his son’s flight. That you threatened him behind veiled word after his testimony at your hearing.”
>>
You feel a heat in your chest, those lying bloody bastards. Deny them their prize, their desperate grabs for power and now they attempt to fuck you from every corner. You turn to face Lord Arryn only to see him gumming aimlessly his eyes lost in a wander across the sea, the corner of his eye catches your own and he reads the rage in your heart burning.

“My Lord it would not do to brood over the subject. He has no claims beyond angry word of a father mad with grief. I only thought to give you ample word, should you not be surprised when such claims reach your ears. We are on a mission of peace, and I cannot have you acting like the day I first met you. Is this understood?”

You relent, allowing your heart to cool, Lord Arryn had a way of speaking to you that felt like the grandfather you never knew, it was a strong word, but with realistic expectations, “Yes my Lord, as always.”

“Very well Lord Malroy. That is all I had need of you for, Ser Grover Grafton will escort you to the grand hall.”

You bite your tongue a moment, you wished to ask him of things. Questions of intent. Council. But you did not know whether or not to push your luck.

>>
>>43488075
It's already been stated that it promotes stability helps a Vale house out with a decent marriage and ties Brynden to Arryn almost completely.
>>
>>43488155
Except the marriage is worthless to us right now. Did Arryn think we would go through with it without finding out? I doubt it. Presumably he has some kind of plan that will land our pairing back into the main inheritance in such a way that we must tie ourselves to Arryn in order to get Gulltown.
>>
>>43488155
Eh, I think it'd be worthwhile to get on the same page with arryn of "this is why I want to hook you too up" "I appreciate it but this is why i can't justify unless you can encourage reconciliation from the other end."
>>
>>43488106
>>43488134

>>
>>43488226
In all fairness being his enemy might actually make the marriage better, we might be able to get her uncle as an ally if it's obvious we're not going to try to retake gulltown for her brother.
>>
>>43488219
He has a plan, its a good idea to see it which ever side of the line you fall on.

Pretty much the only reason im ok with asking about this.
>>
>>43488075

I want as much info on her and Obella as possible- it's looks like that's going to be a hotly contested decision. Let's make it an informed one. To assume is to make an ass out of me and u.
>>
“My Lord, if I beg a further moment?” you ask hopefully. He turns to regard you fully, and you brush a strand of silver hair back behind your ear. He rarely ever looked annoyed with you, always like he wanted to speak with you further, but only upon your own desire. You did not think he was hiding something from you, but rather that he wished for you to work for your answers. If you were to become his man it would be under your decision, not his force.

“A moment is all I may spare my Lord. Lord Monford Velaryon wishes to speak to me on behalf of his lady wife, Lady Hilda Celtgar. And Lord Eldon Estermont will beg my ear for the better part of the evening, no doubt over Lord Stannis’ leaving without so much as a word… So yes a moment my Lord. A quick moment.”

You reflect upon the questions you had but one remained firmly in your mind of Lady Giselle, his purposes, you had to know.

“Lord Arryn. Forgive me if I am being bold-” you pause a moment reflecting on how ridiculous that statement was from your mouth, “...but the Lady Giselle Grafton. She is…”

“A lovely lady to be certain my Lord. I had hoped you would take well to her, a thought well placed it would seem.”

“Yes… Erm yes my Lord. Lovely as a rose in winter. But…”

“But?”

“She… She told me what had happened. Her brother being disinherited, the claims to Gulltown lost. She seems to be of impression she is of… Well of no worth in marriage”
>>
>>43488648
>not simply having both and saying fuck it to westerosi customs
>>
Lord Arryn scoffs and sniffles at the same time, and sit quiet a moment, thinking of your words, “And are you of the same opinion my Lord?”

You give pause again, “Well… As of now yes, to be entirely truthful my Lord. I would do better to marry a merchant’s daughter, at least then I would receive a dowry.”

“She used that line on you as well my Lord?”

“Excuse me?”

Lord Arryn sighs deeply and leans back into his chair, “Lady Giselle has been adamant in denying all suitors, word of her diminished worth, while true, attempts to turn them away with her own actions. Ser Grover’s overbearingness. She is a shy maiden in appearance, and frightened by the prospects that the Rebellion has left her with Lord Malroy. Her brother, he is of worth now, he has become the head of the Knightly House of Gulltown that his Uncle formerly occupied. A far cry away from line of succession now, but one that remains. In truth, his service to me has done more for his fortunes than he would care to admit. He is considered a part of my Household, and his sister much the same. I have no daughters of my own to provide dowry for, but it would not be the first I sponsored.”

You fix him with a confused look, he did not deny it, even to an extent seeminly agreeing with you, “My Lord I’m afraid I don’t understand.”

“The plight of all menfolk my Lord. I can hardly admit to understanding my own wife. If you are worried of her ‘worth’ my Lord. Then do not court her. No doubt her brother would be happy. But there is worth in the smaller details. Where we could possibly go from here,” he yawns and pulls himself up again, “My Lord, I do not force this decision upon you. I provide the options you may not see otherwise. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
>>
>>43488648
>Not waiting for third route waifu
>>
You bid Lord Arryn farewell and leave off with Ser Grover, unsure of how to approach him, but he seemed fine with the silence as he delivered you to the grand hall. The evening is filled with much drinking and eating and you find yourself telling more than a few outlandish stories of your times in Essos, specifically the Dothraki Princess story, Ser Lucas adding in the details he remembered and telling his portion of the name ‘Blackshaft’. Dontos keeps his lips in a small smile, and his stare keeps you from poorer decisions of the night.

---

The practice yard of Greenstone was fit to bursting with the Knights of many Houses and Lords of less than but still many practicing on solid ground for the first time in a fortnight. Some tilted in small contests, otherwise spared, you enjoyed the deep thump of your arrows striking the target true and riding with Dontos in the meanwhile.

Ready. Aim. Loose. Your arrow flies true and strikes the heart of the target again, a round of applause from your onlookers grants you a smile. You take a seat and allow the others their turns and you feel a small and upon your shoulder. You cast a glance behind and see the red flame of a flowing dress, the smattering of freckles above her chest and the eyes of Lady Giselle, her soft smile attempting to hide her nervousness.

“My Lord, you are… Very good at that.”

You laugh to yourself, “I would hope so my Lady, lest I find myself with no skills. It is good to see you again.”

“And you as well my Lord, may I… Beg your escort? I… Um…” she fidgets at her dress, withdrawing her hand to do so.

So if I'm reading that right, we would get a dowry from Arryn? And at the basic level an alliance with a Knightly House and sort of kind of alliance with House Arryn?

Maybe?
>>
>>43488825
We would get a dowry from Arryn (still probably not that much, just enought to be technically viable), basic level alliance with a knight house (down from our station), and we already have an alliance with house arryn, just unofficially. We are under the hands protection anyway so it makes no difference to us.

This is still a poor deal.
>>
>>43488825
>So if I'm reading that right, we would get a dowry from Arryn?

Yes

> And at the basic level an alliance with a Knightly

Yes

>and sort of kind of alliance with House Arryn?

We already got that. Marrying with not really add or remove anything about that.

It is still not an ideal match
>>
>>43488825
>>43488871
>>43488873
The other thing is if her brother has a knightly house under their uncle then their uncle's opinion of them is not nearly as bad as we were lead to believe. It'd be a foot in the door to an alliance with him if we could make a good impression on him.
>>
>>43488825

Yep that's the gist of it. I had to give her terms before we got to Dorne and then found out what's going on with Obella.

Like I've said before, there's no such thing as an 'ideal match' right now. Obella is far from perfect as well.

There's always the marrying the merchant's daughter option too. Haha
>>
>>43488931
I'd rather go Qorgyle who already has very good relations with the Martell.

Looks like a marriage to Giselle buys us a minor tie to Gulltown, a knightly house we maybe can banner and the gratitude of the Warden of the East. Dude....

Qorgyle is so physically distant though. Gulltown can sale up the bay of crabs and march south if we're attacked.

Yronwood doesn't have any marriage options presently and are actually above your station as are Dayne. Well not those of High Hermitage.

But Qorgyle could provide us trainers for gurillea forces, assassins, exotic trade, good connections to the Martell family. I also believe Dorne is a much safer place to to send our family to than the Vale in case everything goes to shit.

Also you assume we can/will be able to get on so good relations that Gulltown would actually send something

Posted this in a previous thread but it bears repeating. Stormlands and the Reach lie between us and Dorne and they've been warring with the dornish for years.

Oberyn who was fostered with the Obella's family wants to brutally murder the Lannisters, one of who am is married to the King, who Jon Arryn betrayed the former king to protect.

An alliance with Dorne is pretty much setting us up in opposition to every neighbouring kingdom.

What? Look at their black eyes, only the dirty blonde girl is white.

>>
>>43489154
Not really, Qorgyles have a good reason to want to marry malroy: It allows them to station folk near the capital for info gathering without arousing suspicion. This also means we can use it as a pretext for more exotic trade. Mix that in with essos imports and such forth and we could mix up quite a lucrative trading town with which to fund our own damn armys instead of hiding behind others.
>>
>>43489187
The reach is to the side, not between. A good chunk of the crownlands and the stormlands is in the way, yes, but not the reach.
>>
>>43489187
The hand of the king is on a peace mission, we are apart of it. That covers suspicion.

Marrying Orbella is not a big alliance step to cause many to actually care, while being diplomatically a good gesture. Oberyn is Oberyn, we can direct him towards the lannisters if we bro it up with him. He may be the liege lord over Orbellas house, but is not that house. His actions will be considered independant of her house's.

Its only if our fine wife starts killing people we have to start worrying, and i doubt she would do that if we put a son in her belly as soon as possible. Looking after your kids is kind of important.
>>
>>43489253

My preference is still Giselle, but if we do end up going Dorne, then we should bro it up with Doran, not only is he the elder, and better at long term thinking (backing the Golden Company and Aegon) he's got a hard-on for valyrian rule and not a citadel trained murderhobo.
>>
>>43489359

>>43489359

>>
>>43489253
I'm personally wavering between the two, but lean toward Orbella. Her house is more suited for an alliance, and it opens a path for trade.

Plus, the chemistry between Orbella and Brynden is much more interesting, as they share many more qualities than Giselle does with him.

Hey father, how'd you make up people's names? Do you have a name generator, or just make them up as need be?
>>
>>43489472
Because it would cause a massive scandle and lose us standing in court that we cant really afford to lose.

>>43489472
The tailor girl already fills Giselle's role as the innocent girl that's corrupted by Brynden and Orbella. No need to have both, that's just greedy

You push yourself up, and walk around the small fence that had stood between yourself and Lady Giselle. She eyes you shyly, you were in a rather dressed down state, you preferred to be when you were practicing with your bow, not wishing to dress entirely like the other Knights and Lords in their full plate in the summer heat. You offer her your hand and she blushes madly, her chest turning the same color.

“Of course my Lady. I would be honored. I do hope the day’s sweat does not offend?”

She giggles again and takes your hand, interlacing her arm into your own, “It does not my Lord.”

You lead her away from the yard, taking a detour about the castle and onto the walls that overlooked the port town below the castle proper. You stop for a moment, watching the sea glisten, the small fleet floating about. You were to leave tomorrow for Sunspear and the armada of Estermont was readying beyond. You enjoy the cool breeze rolling off the sea, and Lady Giselle tightens her grip upon your arm.

“My Lord?”

“Brynden is fine my Lady.”

She pauses, “Brynden… I wanted to apologize for… My actions in King’s Landing. I had too much to drink and and… It was not ladylike. And… I must have appeared a simple girl. And-”

You almost wanted to laugh, of all the women you had ever met upon your arm she was as chaste as a Septa but you force the laughter down your throat, “Wine robs us of our wits my Lady. I could not hold you responsible for such a simple thing. Though I do hope you are a better kisser sober.”

“I-I-I,” she stammers out, looking at you entirely red in her face.
>>
This time you’re unable to keep your laughter down and break down, she gives you a look and pouts with a small humph, “You should not tease my Lord. It is unbecoming of a Lord.”

“You sound like my Uncle. There is rarely a thing I do that is considered ‘Lordly’,” you manage out through laughter. during this she has turned to face you, your own body leaning against the parapet. She hardly reaches the height of your chest, and attempts to lean against it as well to keep your eyes upon her. Her hand plays with your own, fingers lacing in and out in idly motion.

“This is true my Lord. You are hardly a Lord.”

You quirk an eyebrow, “How do you mean my Lady?”

“It is not the Lord Malroy they speak of in hushed whispers and giggles, but the sellsword Brynden Blackshaft. A ravishing rogue. With the heart for adventure, women and wine, in no particular order.”

“I thought you didn’t participate in idle chatter and rumors my Lady?”

“My curiosity was peaked,” she says with a small smile, “But I don’t believe them all the same. You seem a Lord to me. Even if you try to hide it.”

She draws herself closer to you, puller your arm about her waist, your eyes search her own but they remain undaunted by the emerald glare of the midday sun.

“If you were the man they speak of in rumors you would have had me in any moment you wished,” her voice draws as a whisper upon your chest as she looks up to you, her breasts pushed against you drawing a warmth from your body. She places a hand upon your shoulder and stands on the tips of her toes, her lips a hair away from your own,“But yet. You do not.”

She breaks away, pressing her dress in place, and smiles again, “Thank you my Lord. I do hope to see you again this evening, if not then. Dorne. Good day, Lord Brynden.”
>>
For a second time you stand confused by the actions of the Lady Giselle, left with far more questions than answers. You blink a few times before turning to the sea again, attempting to focus efforts on your tasks at hand. Whatever that might be at present.

---

Dorne was no more than a few days now, Lord Rykker was nearing desperation for the sight of land and you had begun to take bets with Lucas and Ser Morton Massey on how often he would vomit out his innards in one day. It was a fair bit more than anyone wished to know in truth.

Dontos gathers your attentions and you take your dinner with him and Benjin. The latter had been educating you in the Houses of Dorne again, alongside Victus, and you were almost entirely certain of the important players at the court, but still struggled with the small Houses. Amusingly Victus knew far more than your own, Benjin spoke so highly of him, he would make a finer maester than knight he would often say and Dontos always scoffed.

“My Lord,” Benjin begins in between bites of a meal he was far more tired of than he would admit, “We have but a scant few more days left, is there anything you wish to know? I will answer to the best of my abilities.”

Dontos nods, curious of a few things himself. Your Uncle hadn’t seemed particularly interested in the peace talks, which was odd for him. But rather those that would be participating. According to him it would not be the first time he had met more than a few of them, but when and where you were not sure.

>Any questions in particular for Benjin? Dontos as well I suppose.

The Dornish are based on the Spanish, with a couple other cultures thrown in. Many Spanish churches and mosques feature fountains and gardens within them, due to the Moorish influences. They are insanely comfy, and great places to visit if you ever get the chance. I spent a short time in Spain touring with a couple friends in college, which was one of the best times in my life. The water gardens in Dorne invoke the same feeling as the gardens, and thus Orbella seems comfortable.

If we do end up marrying her, we should add a small copy of the Water Gardens in Steadfort
>>
>>43489905
>Water Gardens in Steadfort

And that is now my number two reason to marrying Obella.
>>
>>43489905
Maybe add some kind of orchard trees around it for some fresh from the tree fruit during summer.
>>
>>43489861
There's hardly a noteworthy soul within range of King's Landing that doesn't know about Victus. You don't exactly hide him particularly well. Hell he was straight up out there by Dontos' side when he was fighting in the Trial by Combat.

That isn't even a rumor at that point.

Though Cecilia's pregnancy is still just a minor minor rumor.

>>43489905
I too have visited Spain. Absolutely gorgeous country, I did a summer of studying abroad there when I was working on my architecture degree.

We might even consider building our sept Dornish stile and have a fountain in the sept.

It would double its function in a nice way by providing water as well.

Because of our blood, House Malroy's the hottest shit since Lyanna Stark and Brynden taking a wife & mistress would get everyone talking about how we're livin' it up to the greatest Valyrian blood who took mistress & wife and gave no shit: Aegon IV, the Unworthy and Aegon I, the Real OG.

Know what makes Robert turns stone cold sober faster than Cersei tellin' him he'll get lucky tonight? The mere mention of Targaryen.

Take a wife/mistress combo and you can be sure that someone will mention that where Bobby B can hear it.
>>
>>43490048
>Sept in Dornish style

fuuuuucking yeesss!
>>
>>43490049
Pretty sure if someone told him we had a mistress his response would be a sincere "good for him!"
>>
>>43490049
nigga you trippin ball's if you think a mistress/wife combo is going to be raising eyebrows with Bobby B

now Incest marriage and keeping our silver hair post Dorne would be another thing entirely
>>
>>43490069
Dontos would never trust us again.
>>
>>43490093
It's not that we have a mistress that'll get his murder boner flowing, it's how it'll be said.
>"Oh that Lord Malroy, did you know he's trying to emulate the Targaryen of old?"

Nigga would only hear Targaryen and Malroy. Look at how fucked up he was when he heard Danny was with child.
>>
>>43490151
Why ?

It is still a Sept just with a different architecture
>>
>>43490157
No, because that would sound dumb as fuck, because it is dumb as fuck
>>

Does not mean he will not believe it.

>>
>>43490227
no that would merely be dumb, not dumb as fuck

I'm over here struggling with these questions. They're basically all things you know. Brynden is aware of the rough history of the Martells, the Dornish culture and her people. He's more directly aware of the about of war that Dorne has seen in the past 300 years because of how much his family participated.

I'm not really sure if there is anything to talk about other than me saying. Yeah you know that general information.

So... Yeah. Nothing is specific enough to warrant a direct response.
>>
>>43490244
How about just assume that we got a dossier on everyone and then if we do end up having questions during the peace talk itself you tell us then what he told us now?
>>
>>43490244
Ask uncle where he met these people?
>>
>>43490264
Pretty good card to use.

Just limit it to like 5 times or something and we should be set. If Farther goes for it.
>>
>>43490210
this implies we have pissed off someone with the kings ear and while we have Irritated Cercei we're pretty damn safe considering

a)we aren't that high on her shitlist
b)we're the hands man for all intents & purposes
c)Bobby B isn't known for his murderous rampages
d)we already have a reputation with women so it's not like anyone would be surprised

>>43490244
any news regarding the tensions among the houses?
also what the heck has Oberyn been doing prior to all this? travelling? fighting? raging about Elia's death?
>>
>>43490288
Eh that really feels out of character to me, brynden doesn't have any reason to suspect anything
>>
>>43490244
We could ask some more about the Qorgyles in the specific part, and who would be more friendly disposed to Malroys, Valyrian houses or former essosi sellswords.
>>
>>43490238
She'd be all up on this just to rustle Bobby's jimmies.
Don't you dare say she won't do it.
>>
>>43490312
>also what the heck has Oberyn been doing prior to all this? travelling? fighting? raging about Elia's death?
He was originally doing the same sellsword across essos deal we were, which turned into a drum up support for a dornish rebellion across essos deal when he heard about elia
>>
>>43490321
Yes we do. Brynden has no idea when or where his Uncle has met some of the people he's expecting to meet. It would be a good idea to find out if they were friendly or not yeah?
>>
>>43490339
She'd try, and he wouldn't give a shit. The only difference is instead of saying "good for him" he'd start saying it, realize who he was talking to, switch to a halfhearted "gee how terrible of him" and then the moment she looked away mouth "no but good for him" to whoever he could make eye contact with
>>
Will Cersei want our dick once she sees the white hair? She wanted Waters because he looked a bit like Rhaegar. She really wanted Rhaegar. She'll probably want blackshaft.
>>
>>43490312
Oberyn was actually serving in the same sellsword company as Brynden at the same time but they never met. He did however see Brynden
>>
>>43490405
Not yet. She is not old and desperate/crazy enough.
>>
>>43490410

>>
>>43490426
But the book says she pretended Robert was Rhaegar in bed pretty much from day one because she couldn't imagine that he was Jamie as she knew Jamie physically and he was too different. Cersei wants it. We should oblige her
>>
>>43490463
Well thats horrfying.
>>
>>43490483
Yeah. But that is not really the same thing. Give it a couple of years and it may happen. But dont count on it
>>
>>43490264
Yeah that should work. I can't imagine it'll become much of an issue. Not like you guys don't use the Wiki anyway.

>>43490288
Yeah I ignored that specifically because Dontos wouldn't answer much more than mentioning smaller Lords and Knights. Brynden assumes for the most part he means Tourneys and like, he did spend a lot of time in King's Landing during the Targaryen's rule.

>>43490312
Tensions are high between the Houses of the Dornish Marchers. If something were to happen or appear poorly, all out war will likely break out there. Those Lords are not attending on either side.

Oberyn was a member of the Second Sons in your last to second year there. He left after a year, formed his own mercenary company and did some stuff about Essos. When the Rebellion broke out he wasn't able to make it home in time, only to find out about all the shit that occurred, which is why he's turning Dorne into a shitstorm right now.

>>43490327
I'll give the gist, you have been suspiciously interested in House Qorgyle by Benjin's eyes.

Lord Quenytn Qorgyle - 29, friend of Prince Oberyn Martell.
Lady Elsa Dayne - 27 (Sister of Ser Jorge Dayne of High Hermitage, Aunt of Gerold Dayne Darkstar)

Gulien Qorgyle (First son, heir, 10, squire)
Arron Qorgyle (Second son, 7, page to his father)

Their seat is Sandstone, far to the west of Sunspear, pretty isolated all things considered.

In terms of the important players, Oberyn is likely to be your biggest fan. Doran's wife will be interested in you, any word of Essos brings her joy. But Doran himself will be a bit leery, unsure of your actions.

Yronwoods not big fans.
Qorgyles, neutral.
Daynes, neutral.
Santagars, surprisingly cool with you.

If really specific things come up, we'll just assume Brynden knows. He's good at remembering details, but eventually he'll push them out for other things.
>>
>>43490538
>He's good at remembering details, but eventually he'll push them out for other things.

Women ? Women.
>>
>>43490516
I think it'll depend on how sorry we seem about our trial. If she think's we've learned our lesson and are ready to listen to the queen she'd probably see an appeal in having her own pet valyrian.

>>43490580
I'll just say, Brynden remembers the name of every woman he's ever slept with, in order.

-A Few Days Later-

You watch from the prow as Sunspear comes closer and closer into view. You had only heard tell of the city before, far different than you were use to in the Crownlands. And while King’s Landing was grand it was nothing akin to the beauty of Sunspear. It would have reminded Illiad of home, most of the Sons in fact, you disliked having to leave so many of them in Steadhold, not even being able to bring Mason for his dislike of sailing. The Winding Walls obscure most of the city but above you can see the Old Palace, her towers striking into the sky. The Spear Tower’s mighty steel spear glinting in the midday sun beyond it the Tower of the Sun, it’s golden dome a beautiful sight to behold. Steadhold was nothing in comparison, the Malroy’s of old did not wish for the pomp, Ser Aeson preferred practicality, the stone reliefs and carvings were only added later by his issue.

“My Lord?”

“Yes Ser Lucas?”

“Do you worry for the coming days?”

“I would be a liar if I said no. In truth I have no idea of my purpose here, peace talks are hardly own family’s forte. Unlikely the Dornish have forgotten the Malroy horses chasing them about as they fled their castles. Slippery bastards they are.”

Lucas laughs a moment, “Perhaps it is high time the Malroy’s wrote history of peace with Dorne, aye? Maybe you’re just a useful marriage option.”

You join in his laughter and for the rest of the day cut with the Knight. He’s more than happy of late, his squire Grant Conklyn is adept and speaks highly and often his sister. Grant has been enjoying your horses as well, taking too befriending Wesley and helping where he could in the events of the Melee in a few months. It is not until mid afternoon you find yourself docking and watching Lord Rykker rush off again, no doubt your return trip would be a fair bit lonelier if he had his way.
>>
You travel about the city in the train of Lords, Ladies, and Knights, a royal escort taking you to the Old Palace in short order. Upon the back of Goldsong you cast a glance beyond the Winding Walls, the Shadow City stretches far beyond, but in that you see the encampment of thousands of banners, Yronwood and Dayne being primarily among them. The words that Benjin had spoken to you months prior of rebellion were not untrue, and it sent a chill down your spine. War was not only a possibility, but a hair’s breadth away from reality.

Leaving the winding streets of Sunspear you find yourself before the Old Palace and take in the view. The architecture was far more ornate up close, the use of water and greenery in the design breaking of the bleak yellow sandstone. It was unreal. You are not in any particular position to catch the glance of Prince Doran Martell but see the familiar visage of man next to him. It niggled t you in the back of your mind you had met him before, you knew it. You watch Lord Arryn dismount and greet the Martells gathered. Shaking the hand of Prince Doran and kissing the hand of his lady wife, meanwhile the man you knew ignored him and walked off into the Palace again. The other Lords had begun to dismount and you do the same, servants and the like taking your baggage and anything else of note, you press a coin into a stableboy’s hand to take particularly good care of your horses.
>>
Your room gives you a fair view of the Sea of Dorne, far into the reaches of the Spear Tower and you’re informed that a feast in the Hand’s honor will be held in the evening near dusk. Your retinue disappears with the others, going about their own activities, Dontos and Victus to the Sept, Benjin to meet with the other Maester attending, Lucas, Wesley and Grant to the yard to stretch out a bit. You find yourself milling about the Tower, enjoying the view and suddenly realizing how bloody hot it was. A servant allows himself in and you regard her with little word, but a last glance, she’s a slight thing, but with the exotic flair of Dorne all about her. She smiles prettily and plays with the ringlets in her hair before leaving, a note left in her wake.

A curious way to deliver messages, but when you see the name on it you immediately know why, Obella. She wished to meet, now. You furrow your brow and a sudden worry strikes at your heart.

So… I made something.

>>
>>43491375
What are the None's? It can't be stillbirth cause that's on the chart and gender is on the chart too.
>>
>>43491375

I wouldn't mind either way.
>>
>>43491375
Uh, shouldn't "twin girl and boy" be more likely than two of the same gender?
Since the outcomes of twins are
Boy/Boy,Boy/Girl
Girl/boy,Girl/Girl
Identical twins slightly up the chance of same gender but I don't think enough to make a difference at the scale of 6d6
>>
>>43491375
Wait......DID WE HAVE ANOTHER BASTARD?!!!
>>
>>43491432
I... THINK it might be "as above"?
>>
>>43491504
Yes yes we did.
>>
>>43491432
None means no pregnancy. Because I lack the vocabulary to express that properly apparently.

Anyway, for those curious. Brynden is... Virile. I've made a chart like this before for a player of mine and he was significantly less so. I figured rolling for this was the most fair. And damn it if won't be funny to break out every once and awhile.

It's a once per month type of ordeal mostly, so doesn't matter how many times you've slept with someone, so long as you finished inside. Which Brynden usually does.

>>43491487
Sure maybe, I'm not a scientist. There isn't a particular rhyme or reason on the extreme ends. I just wanted to give out plenty of terrible, terrible things to roll on.
>>
>>43491487
Looked it up, the chance of fraternal twins is much higher than identical, so yes the chart's probability is wrong

3/2000
Fraternal Boys
3/2000
Fraternal Girls
3/2000

>>43491531
I think you should determine whatever or not if she pregnant yourself. Think you already have and then use the chart for any further children however i think you should roll for health and trait.
>>
Rolled 4, 6, 6, 5, 4, 2 = 27 (6d6)

>>43491504
Well not yet. We'll roll on it first.

>>43491532
Eh sure alright. I'm not going to change it, I like it better this way.

Welp, no one seems to particularly want to roll. So... Here we go. Take the wheel fate.
>>
>>43491531
I think to make the math right, you'd want 34 and 8 to be twin girl and boy, 9 to be twin girl and 33 twin boys. Which does mean the chance of twin girl + the chance of twin boy is SLIGHTLY higher than the chance of a boy and a girl, but eh we'll say that's identical twins.
>>
Rolled 2, 2, 6, 4, 6, 3 = 23 (6d6)

>>43491531
>>
Who did we pork? Obella drank moon tea and the tailor girl is already pregnant.
>>
>>43491595
Actually I think it'd be best to just have all of the twins just be "twins" and have a separate twin roll out of 4
>>
>>43491641
We ASSUMED she would. She's also an active agent of someone else's agenda, that agenda might find value in possessing brynden malroy's bastard.
>>
>>43491588
And would you look at that. Lucky you, she isn't pregnant.

>>43491579
>>43491595
This isn't a math thing for me. It really is just how I particularly wanted to do things with Brynden's rolls. Lucas' father's chart would be more 'real world' correct.

It isn't going to ever happen anyway, let's be real.

>>43491641
No she didn't.
>>
>>43491665
If so Father wouldn't be rolling in the open
>>
>>43491678
Damn. A bit dissapointed. Also i think childbirth death for both mother and child should be a seperate roll
>>
>>43491678
>>43491692

Yeah, we assumed the chart was something to roll at birth, not at conception. That way spoilers are prevented regarding whether moon tea was consumed or if the mother is fated to die.
>>
>>43491692
Yeah at the very least if childbirth is on the list then it shouldn't be public so we're not seeing the future.
>>
>>43491707
>>43491714

We requested an open roll for the tailor girl's pregnancy so we knew Father wasn't bullshitting us regarding gender and Malroy traits (plus it's exciting) I don't know how that got translated to us getting a 9 month warning of fated death

(I do love the chart though, I like the "fairness" of it, something you do much better than other QM's)
>>
Wait. We nutted in her twice. Does that mean we should roll two times ?
>>
Hm... Alright maybe I'll change a couple of things about this. I see what you guys are saying. More secret rolls on my end.

I just wanted the option to allow Destiny Points to save people if one of the 'bad' rolls happened. Or add a +5 to the roll if you want something specific.

Anyway. Lucky you, she's not pregnant.
>>
>>43491795
>Anyway. Lucky you, she's not pregnant.

Yet. We gotta fix that.
>>
>>43491759
Yes
>>
>>43491795
We like the open rolls, we just are concerned about future knowledge. Pregnancy rolls should be secret but I'm okay with Malroy traits, gender, grayscale, ect happening in-thread at birth.

We get way too much OOC knowledge in general and it's REALLY HARD to keep it separate from what Brynden knows. Having foreknowledge from the ASOIAF wiki is bad enough as-is
>>
So let's look at the math!

.542% chance the mother dies!

.902% chance of twins, of which 1/451 will be boy/girl when it should be slightly less than half!

3.24% chance of stillbirth!

Of course this is "per month." I don't want to bother doing the math on how the chance of no pregnancy affects this. I'm guessing there's a slightly above 50% chance of pregnancy but guessing is all i'm gonna do.
>>
>>43491795
Are we going to roll again for the other sexy time?
>>
>>43491891
Already did.

>>43491612
>>43491588
>>
>>43491891
PRETTY sure we've only had one "encounter" with each lady we've fucked. This is ignoring that he also said it's one roll for a whole month of boning.
>>
>>43491759
Imagine if you will. A married Brynden. With his libido. We're talking minimal ten times a week. Assume a 4 week month. I'm not about to roll 40 times every month.

It's a general roll for the month.

>>43491838
Yeah I didn't do that as well as I could have. I just don't want you guys thinking I'm throwing bastards on you without actually be fair about it.

If you guys want to mess with it, be my guest. I'll look at over properly myself.

Alright I'll be honest with you guys my head is killing me and I'm struggling to write as it is. I don't want to call a thread so early, but since I'm running Saturday and Sunday you guys will forgive me, yeah?

No worrirs
>>
>>43491925
just finish what you are currently writing then call it a thread
>>
>>43491925
Take a rest. We got enough done. Health is better than quest for nameless assholes online.
>>
>>43491958
I have a sentence. Haha Have you seen my updates? And it's all a mess right now anyway.

Alright, yeah, not the greatest of threads, I had wanted to run later. Get Obella and an Oberyn scene done, but looks like that won't be happening tonight. Sorry guys.

Either way, like I said, I'm starting my vacation Saturday and it'll be until next Friday. I want to run 4 threads during that time.

Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We'll do the entire Dorne arc and it'll lead us up and likely into the Melee in Steadhold arc.

Sorry again guys, I'll be sort of around if there are some questions or... Plans I guess? You guys got on some weird tangents today.

-End Chapter XV-

Next thread, Saturday, November 7, 2PM EST. I might run earlier, like 1-ish.

Alright mate and take care
>>43489896
Also in case you missed it. Got the name files for the Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings 2 here. In case you need some inspiration or something.
>>
>>43492049
Feel better yeah? What woulda happened had Qorgyle been preggers?
>>
>>43492049
Night Dad.

So, you guys want to discuss military? I'm thinking

>40% pike and shot
>30% mounted troops(archers and cataphracts)
>20% regular archers
>10% engineers or other specialty units

>>43492177
Probably would have tried to get us to take responsibility for it. Would have been fun to watch the shitstorm over Orbella vs Giselle
>>
>>43492125
I did not, but thank you. I actually find that's pretty helpful for naming locations. Like Branfort for House Chelsted.

>>43492177
Black mail. In short.

I dislike having to bail out like this. I don't ever want to give the impression that I'm not into it anymore or the quest is going to die like the other ones. I genuinely enjoy writing in this setting. I really want to get to a large scale battle scene before the year is out. I have a naval battle possibility coming up though.
>>
>>43492241
It's not Orbella. Fucking Christ. It's Obella no r.
>>
>>43492309
>Blackmail

You better marry our hot dornish woman or else!
>>
Holy shit we need eyes on Redward's house stats so badly.

If we had an Elite Guerrillas unit, how effective would they be in getting general scouting info? Or would the actual Scouts unit be better for that?
>>
>>43492360
>Have a scout unit scout his land getting info on his patrols and supply depots
>use guerillas to commit surgical strikes on those locations
>>
>>43492383
Nothing that can be traced back to us. If captains mysteriously "desert" in the night though....
>>
>>43492471
Just dress them up as bandits.
>>
>>43492383
>>43492471

If the rumors are true about Redward's lands being more bandits than people are true we could stand to do some damage using the same trick they tried on us.
>>
>>43492347
Something like that. Sully my sister's honor this. Insult the prince that. The usual.

>>43492360
Scouts would be your better call, but only on a military level. You still wouldn't know what's going on in there. That would be a spy network. I'm surprised this hasn't been argued mode given Dontos being adamantly against it even though it provides such a high level of worth.

I will remind your military is still capped at 700. Pros and Cons on your investments there.

Bannering would open up more player controlled troops.
Your alliance with House Longwaters sort of helped.
An alliance with House Chelsted will REALLY help
>>
>>43492515
And I keep bringing them up but no one listens to me. They'd rather break the kings peace.
>>
>>43492515
Well forever ago I asked whether we'd be able to toss money at anyone who'd been unusually good at spying from our sellsword days and you said you'd figure out who we knew from then, and i've basically been waiting on that
>>
Eh it would take a year for the Network to get up and running and it's not that great anyway from what I can see
