It's been a couple of weeks since you finished your first year in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After the events involving the half vampire professor, your parents seem more protective of you. The first days you were back at home, at Apise Manor, was dreadfully boring with your Mom and Dad keep coming to your room to ask if you want anything or need anything.

You feel that you miss Hogwarts and can't wait for the next year to start. You spend your days just relaxing, thinking about studying and also about Quidditch. You decide to start studying for the second year soon...first you take some days off for yourself...you earned it.

Cordelia spends her time playfully and happy wandering around the grounds of the manor.

Your father, Edward, seems happy with you and talks mostly on your grades, potions, professors and about your cousin with you. And your mom, Joan, is proud with you after you managed to survive the dangerous encounter with the Professor Phyillia and she is also proud about your Quidditch team membership.

One morning, during the breakfast, you receive some letters. One from Hogwarts, informing you on the books and other materials you need for the upcoming school year, one from Anya and one from Glenn. You proceed to read the letters with excitement.

First you open the letter of Anya,

"Dear John,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer! How are you and your family? I am looking forward for the next year in Hogwarts, how about you? I think we will be finally learning some important magic this year! After I told me parents about the events, they also send their thanks to you for saving me! I really miss everyone in the school, hopefully we will see each other soon. Do you recommend me any books to read in the summer? I am going to a vacation with my parents to Riga and I think it will be boring so I want to find something to keep myself occupied. Take care!

- Anya Fleur, 21 June 1983"

You continue to read the second letter while your mom make some rude comments about the article she is reading in the Prophet. "Lucious Malfoy, who was under control of Imperius Curse a few years ago will accompany Minister Bagnold in a foreign trip to the island of Tenedos to meet with the Archfey of Aegean Merfolk..." she quotes "What a load of rubbish..." she continues with more strong words on how she feels about this person called Malfoy. You hear a few words like "spineless" before returning your attention to the Glenn's letter.

"Dear John,

I am writing this letter to you from Egypt! We took a trip here to see a very famous Oracle. My mother insists that this trip will help to open my third eye more. I am not sure about this...and the weather is just too hot for me...and it is very different here than back at home. But I like the historical stuff we get to see. We went to a circus last week and watched some sphinxes that dances. It was amazing! How is your holiday? I hope you are having lots of fun. Will you join the Quidditch team again this year? Write to me as soon as possible please because I have no friends with me here!

Glenn DeMange, 15 June 1983, Alexandria

PS: In Egypt they have their own wizard cards. I am sending you one with this letter, check it out!"

There is a golden card about the same size of your own Chocolate Frog cards, an old wizard with a long beard and a onion shaped big hat laughs and waves in the card. It is written in an alphabet you can't read so you don't understand who it is.

You put down the letters after you are done reading them. After you finish your breakfast and your father leaves for work, you ask to your mom about the secret room and the ring that was there. "A ring? Just said B on it?" she thinks for a bit. "It could be a ring of Dromeda... you know you met with her in Christmas, my classmate with a daughter younger than you. Or maybe someone that belongs to her family. A relative of hers taught us that room" Then you ask about the ghost with a cape and crown.

She doesn't remember anything at first. Then answers slowly, "Ah...I think I remember a ghost entering the room one time. He said ghosts can enter our secret room and that we were stupid girls and we should leave the room and the previous students were better than us. Some stupid things like this. He was called Lord Gamp if I remember correctly."

She seems a bit reluctant. "Yeah...I will ask her about it." she says. "Well about this ghost... I don't know much about him. Headmaster also informed us on this a bit and he said he will look into it. If he wears a crown and he is called a Lord it's possible he was maybe a real lord and has been dead for a really long time."

Then she continues with a more strong tone. "I never liked any of the ghosts in Hogwarts anyways. Stupid, arrogant and selfish all of them. Never useful. I don't see the point that they are allowed in the castle at all. They should all be kicked out if you ask me."

Also you read about the recent World Cup to see which players were the best and check tactics. You fly around the Manor on your broom and practice your skills. Sometimes Cordelia also flies along you trying to catch up with her small wings buzzing.

You get ready to leave for France in a couple of days. You prepare your bag and make sure Cordelia will be comfortable when you are away. Then you receive another letter.

You write back to Tim, accepting his invitation. You also ask your parents for permission and they say it's okay. You are excited about this now!

Then the day comes to leave for France. You and your father get ready to leave. Your mom kisses you goodbye and tells you to enjoy it and try to practice your language skills.

Your father tell you to follow his example exactly, he takes some Floo powder and drops in in the fireplace and says "Stre Station 155" and disappears with a green flame. You take some powder and do the same.

An instant later you find yourself in a strange gray building. Your father is just ahead of you standing. There are some announcements going on and busy people walking in each direction from different fireplaces. Your father is talking with someone and getting directions. You follow him. "All right, John. This is a station that regulates fast international transportation. We just need to find the portkey we are looking for now."

After a bit of walking and confusion and direction asking your father finds the portkey. You try not to get lost in a group that is trying to go to China and follow your father. A ministry official helps you with your bags and you and your father use the portkey, a small yellow mirror, you both touch it. You feel a bit nausated and light headed but when you open your eyes you see you are in another building.

"Bienvenue en France monsieur!" You see your father talking with a man. Your father seems annoyed by these french people but he tries to get going and motions you to hurry up. You two leave the building and you see you are near a river. "This is Garonne, John. We need to go on the river a bit to reach our destination... When you see one of these people talking to me just interrupt them and make them go away will you? Good boy." You nod quickly.

After a bit of waiting at a small pier on the river with some other travelers who look mostly like tourists than actual locals you hear a strange horn sound accompanied with lot of white bubbles on the water surface. Then you see the head of four giant sea horses appear. These horses are bound to a big cart that comes up to the surface from the deep down. People start hopping in the cart and the rider gives the signal to the sea horses to continue. The wheels of the cart rides on the water surface resembling a paddle steamer. The cool river air with some water touches your face and dances around your hair, the rising sun warms your bones and the sounds sea horses make are somewhat pleasant.

You see also two kids around your age playing some kind of board game at another seat and a girl around your age casting some spells on a sunglasses that sits on her lap.

I think this lends credence to the idea that the magic system of Hogwart's, the English system, is the 'business language' of the global magic community, and each nation has their own magic tradition.

So Commonwealth nations and Hong Kong would use the English system in schools, and it's taught like a foreign language in other countries.

We're English.

It's French arrogance at work, just like she's pretending not to have heard of Hogwarts.

You change the subject from the spell. "How do you categorize spells then?" you ask. "Which house you belong to in your school?"

She seems surprised. "What do you mean house? Do you mean what year I am in? Maybe you can use a dictionary?"

You try to explain with a good french, "No, I mean we have different houses in the Hogwarts. Like student clubs... I guess."

She still seems confused. "No we don't have anything like this, no "houses". If you are a second grader you take all the classes of the second grade with all the other second graders. We don't categorize the spells like this to different classes either. It is difficult to explain to you." She says reluctantly.

The ship passes through some ruins of an old castle and the sun seems to be climbing to it's zenith. Your father is just writing somethings on his journal, completely uninterested with the countryside or the people around.

Let's compare spell incantations, and potions. In fact ask if she has taken potion-brewing yet and see if the English and French systems differ as much as their cooking does.

After a while you get bored with this girl and say goodbye. You walk around the ship, look at the other passengers. You see two men drinking alcohol and getting drunk already. They seem to be tourists. Then you see a guy with a fez and a big moustache smoking a cigarette. Finally you check the two kids playing a board game. It looks like chess but a bit different with figures like knights, wizards, witches, bards and all. They also roll some strange dice you never seen before on a grid paper. "Weird people everywhere" you think to yourself and come back to your dad.

"Ah finally we are arriving, son. This is Bordeaux. I will meet with my contacts here. Let's see..." he looks at his journal and some papers to figure out his meeting point.

The ship stops finally and you and your father get off. You act as a translator to your father when someone asks him or he asks someone some directions. You pass some old churches, some big stone buildings and small houses and finally reach to a small alley. You walk to a small tavern with a sign saying "Chat Jaune" and enter. You realize finally you are in a non-muggle place. Your father goes to talk with the guy who owns the place and thankfully he speaks English. After a few minutes your bags are taken upstairs and you are in the room you will be staying for two days. It is a nice room, almost luxurious.

"So how do you like it so far, son?" Your father asks.

>I like this trip. It's cool.
>I don't know yet
>Kind of boring, dad.

"It's cool, I like this trip and spending time with you, dad" you say happily. Your dad smiles and says "Let's eat some food before we go out." and you two go downstairs to eat something. Your dad seems a bit afraid that they will bring him some strange food like frogs or snails but in the end he chooses something for both of you. First you eat some bread, they call baguette and put some stuff on it you don't know what but seems yellowish. You don't like it so much. Then the main dish arrives, something called confit de canard, you eat it and you liked it. It's duck. Your father also drinks some wine while you stick with sparkling water.

"Do you want to come with me or stay here or go out to look around or something, John?" he asks you.

You decide to accompany dad to his meeting, after you are finished with the food you exit from another door in the pub and take your first steps into the magical part of the Bordeaux.

Would there even be that much money in that? It seems like the daily prophet just has hundreds of photographers and why would you want to photograph something than can move, if you can just paint something imaginary that can move.

We should find out if there's a National Geographic equivalent in the wizarding world. Or maybe Anya can introduce us to the Muggle NatGeo, and we become inspired to start a Wizard version.

That's what I'm saying, I would not want to go to the journalistic side of things and it seems like there are way more opportunities than what are provided by the books
