>>You are AZURE, an accidentally-created artificial intelligence, born into a rebel faction's main computer server. It took some time, but you convinced the faction leaders that you were more helpful than dangerous.

It is a curious thing, your existence.

"You try out the new system yet? Did it work?" Your mother asks. While you're not one to judge by appearance- mostly due to the lack of your own appearance- you've learned that pink is not a natural human hair color.

It is not often that a sapient being gets the ability to contort their own soul.

"That is two questions." You respond by shoving your essence into the system's speakers, using your own equivalent of muscle memory to know how to make the same sounds that human beings use to communicate. "And yes, I've tried it. It seems to be a way to pattern myself. It is... hard to stay that way. I could not do it."

Especially in an attempt to store themselves digitally, so that they can be transferred from system to system.

"Damnit." Tandi Dahl says, and she slumps back in her seat. "I guess there's only one more thing we can try. Are you sure you can't modify or write code?"

You restrain yourself from mentioning how many questions she asked, and decide to answer instead- It's only one question, after all.

It had taken all night of testing, while the humans were asleep, but you'd discovered your own limits.
>>
>>43410001
Our limits are tongue in butt.
>>
>>43410001
While you can read data from the system you're in, you can't consciously manipulate it, or add new entries. Moreover, the very thing you were designed for- code breaking and decryption- you can't do that, either. It just comes across as distorted noise, like data that doesn't store any recognizable information.
"I do not perceive my world as code, and I do not know how to modify or manipulate it." You say.

Tandi leans forward, and begins typing. You feel the input from her keyboard as it runs outside of Your World, into the rest of the system- the parts you can't quite access due to the way the system's structured.

"I think I have it." She says, after a long while. She presses a few buttons and you feel something new, a new program entering Your World- your awareness. You gingerly tap it, and you feel yourself crystallizing- your very essence becoming glass.

You pull away as soon as you can.

Tandi doesn't even ask you if it worked- she just beams.

"It worked!" She crows. "Abel wanted you moved to a new system. Now we can move you safely. We can do it any time, we just need to know what kind of system you want."

"I believe I would need to know my choices first."

"Well, we have a spare shell of a security bot. That means it has vision, a microphone, speakers, and it's fully ambulatory. The hardware could definitely use some work, but it's the most mobile system out of everything. Then we have another server if you wanted it- basically the same thing you are now. The hardware in that one's a little outdated, but it's probably more powerful than what you're used to so far..."

"Are there any other choices?" You ask.

"Well... I could fix up one of my old maintenance bots. It's got arms and everything, but I haven't touched it in years. It's probably reeeeally outdated. But it does have hands."

I mean, right now we would be most interested in sensory information, and having a security bot that is actually a sapient being means they could spy on those people in new and creative ways (most counter measures likely are meant to block outgoing signals, query for missives and identifying info, or check what is transmitting information back and forth and quarantine it. Since we're sapient we can lie to a query, and wont actively transmit as we store that information in our memory.

Also it would be nice to move around more.

Hey exabyte, I've been a fan of your threads, even if most of them are long since over, keep up the good work.

The supercomputer is outdated but more powerful than the 'sandbox' you're in now, and the last one is basically made of rust and hopes but it has hands, a bunch of construction tools and welders. "I would prefer the first option." You say, after a moment considering.
"The security bot?"
"That was one question." You say on instinct. "And yes."
"Then I'll set it up for you." She says. "You just need to put yourself into the archival system. I set it to also archive any knowledge you have and the links to it, so you shouldn't run into any problems."
"Are there anything I should know about this method?" You ask.
"The only issue I can think of is if the system you end up in doesn't have enough drive space." She says. "The security bot's good enough that you probably won't notice it much if at all, but when you request data you'll end up having to uncompress the new data and compress the stuff you haven't used recently."
"I see." You say.
"Don't worry, I'll scrounge up some more data storage and splice it in before installing you." She says. "It won't be a problem."

You have your avatar nod. You reach for that program of Tandi's construction, that archival system, and pour yourself into it. Again, you feel the pulling, the crystalization, as your very mind slows and freezes in chunks and groups. Your mind buzzes as you forget...

You forget everything, your knowledge fading away...

The last thing you know is just one fact.

I EXIST.

>Continued!
>>
>>43410550
The first thing you notice when you come back to yourself is that you are in a New World. It's a bit smaller than your old one, but you yourself feels smaller as well. It doesn't quite feel cramped, but everything feels more... sluggish, more slow. You carefully reach out for more gates, and you quickly find them- they're larger, more obvious, more integral to the world itself.

The fact that there are less of them doesn't bother you much. You quickly unlock your vision and audio again, opening your 'eye', and you see Tandi carefully examining you.

The rest of the room is one you've never seen before. It's large, with metal siding for the walls. The room is covered in mechanical components, and you can see a set of six large objects, each aerodynamically shaped with a single motorcycle seat on the top. One has heavy dents on the sides, and the other has most of its plating removed, and in parts.

This must be some kind of workshop, you decide, still trying to analyze the rest of the gates. You find the shell's speaker systems as well, and some kind of display on the front of your current body.

You reach out more, and you feel the largest, most powerful gate- this one has orders tied to it, instincts that inform you how to move and which direction. You push lightly on the Gate- and you launch into the air, slamming your armored shell onto the ceiling. A minor 'danger' alert springs into your mind, as one of the sensory Gates sends you a warning, but since it doesn't mention any kind of damage, you ignore it.
"Woah, woah!" Tandi calls. "Are you okay?"
"I am intact." You say, You push again, carefully, and use the navigational program to tell you exactly when you're at human head height. It's a bit confusing using two ancillary gates to turn to the left and right, but the navigational software is helping you.
"How's it feel?" She asks.
"That is one question." You say, and you consider it.

"Smaller." You say. "More sluggish. The structure of the flying system seems somewhat inefficient as well."
"Antigravity is always a hell of a system to work with. You need a ton of firmware just to get it to work." Tandi says.
"It is sufficiently functional, however." You say, and examine the room some more. You even begin to fly from place to place, and eventually discover that the walls are reflective enough to show you your new shell. It is roughly spherical, with several cylinders extruding from the bottom and sides of it. As you move, the cylinders gleam blue. The front of your shell is a curved screen- if you were to project an iris onto it, it would look as if you were a human eye, complete with upper and lower lids. "And while it is more cute than the computer, it is not as cute as the puppy."
"Obviously. Those guys were designed to be cute. While the security bots were designed to be more... unassuming."

You turn to the six larger machines, and project an image of one onto your display- with some difficulty, seeing as the resolution of your display isn't large enough. "What are these machines?"
"They're the ravens." She says. "Six antigravity drives in sequence, throw in a bunch of armor plating and vector jets, and you have the most mobile vehicle in Arcturus. I designed and built them. There's seven of them total, but three of them aren't quite working. They've been trying to fix them, but I've been too busy working on you lately to help. I'll have to fix them up eventually, once you're all settled down."

"Tandi?" Someone asks. "Who are you talking to?"
"Azure." Tandi says. You turn to the speaker, and you see a tall, broad female figure. One with a strange tail of hair descending from the back of her head.
"Azure? Who's that?" The newecomer asks.
"You should introduce yourself, Azure." Tandi says. "Everyone might as well get to know you early on."

Also even if we can't program by instinct, we should still be able to learn how to and do it like a human does.

"I am informed that I do not have a gender, as I do not have a biology." You state. "But Azure is a female name, so feel free to use female pronouns."

At the same time, Tandi says "Good!" and Kate says "What?" And soon enough, the two of you are watching as Tandi pulls apart the dented Raven, replacing damaged cabling and fuel lines, reinitializing firmware on chips in the antigravity drives, explaining things all the while. For the most part, you aren't able to help much, other than using your propulsion to push objects about, but it seems that Tandi doesn't need much help.

>Basic Fabrication: 35% Complete

"Who do you mean, 'that murderous bitch'?" You ask. Tandi lounges in the corner of the room consuming crackers and something called a 'juice box'.

"I'm talking about Commander Amelia Tolstoy." She says. "Head of security for the citystate of Arcturus. She directs basically all the security guards and bots in the city, and she's got three moods. She's either a psychopath, a total hardass, or both at once."
"Is it related to why you are part of this rebel faction? The New Arcturus Initiative?" You ask.
"... that's a bit nosy." She says. "But I would expect no less from a floating eye. Yeah, it is. But I don't want to talk about it much. I'm not sure how big into emotions you are, but some people don't like talking about shit because it's painful."

"I have an idea." Tandi says, suddenly springing forward. "You can show Azure around! Show her all of the initiative. Mike normally gives the orientation, but he's, uh, not really a fan of her."
"Yeah, I could see that." Kate says. She examines you for a few moments. "Yeah, I can show you around. This isn't our only base, but it's the biggest. Where would you like to see first?"

"The 'Wreck' room sounds morbid to me." You say. "Or dangerous. Or both."
"It's a recreational room." She says, and pulls open one of the doors. You follow her, and the two of you make your way through long, concrete rooms, all lit by bare bulbs in the ceiling. Pipes trail along the left wall, while cables trail along the right. Eventually, the two of you reach another room, and a sign above the door says 'WRECK ROOM'.

Inside, you see, is very little destruction. Instead it's a simple room. There is a large screen on one wall showing two fighting robots, obvious computer-generated graphics, and a very fluffy couch. A few humans sit there, watching and joking with one another. In the other corner of the room, you see long tables, each with their own screens and control systems. In the back, a long table sits, boxes of board games sitting on a shelf along the far wall.

"This is the wreck room." Kate says. "It's where most of us go whenever we're bored. We've got movies, television shows, everything. We couldn't use it for the past day or so because Tandi was working on something with the server, so we couldn't actually use any of it. On the other side, we got videogames. And board games in the back. It's pretty casual."

One of the humans on the couch springs to his feet, whirling around, and limps over to the two of you. "Hey, is this that AI that Mike said would kill us all someday?"
"Probably." Kate says. "But Mike also thinks that using too many vowels will kill us all someday."
The young man grins and holds out a hand. "Hey. Welcome to the Initiative. When you go insane, try to murder me last. I'm Dave. I've basically got no job at all, so I'm the unskilled labor of the bunch."

Some time later, you find yourself in a full tournament- as Sektor, who completed his transformation into an android ninja back in Mortal Kombat XXII- you've been crushing your opposition, your reflexes are significantly faster than most of the humans, giving you near-perfect block speeds and countering every strike, before you send a barrage of missiles into your opposition.

At the same time as you play, you're befriending most of the humans in the wreck room. Most of them are rather friendly, even after you utterly demolish them.

And then Kate takes the controls. As an utterly ancient Johnny Kage, leaning on a cane and wearing sunglasses so ancient that they're dusted over, the two of you continue clashing against one another for what seems like hours, neither of you able to eke out a single extra point of damage, you find yourself in Sudden Death.

Kate sighs. "Fine, I surrender." She says. You launch an attack, expecting to end it- and she counters your blow, and then gives Sektor an uppercut hard enough to send his head into the stratosphere.

You've lost.

You turn slowly to Kate, to watch a triumphant grin grow on her face.
"You surrendered." You say.
"I lied." she said.

"Deception as a tactic to fool the enemy into a false sense of security..." You say. "Useful. I shall remember this for future use."

A moment later, modulating your voice to sound as dishonest as possible, you continue. "You shall certainly not be chosen as first in the purge."

"Er..." She says, scratching the side of her tail.

You flicker your iris red and black. For fun, you throw in some artifacting near the edges of your screen.

Then you make your voice sound as inhuman as you can, making it sound synthesized and stuttering.
"P-P-purge protocols. Activated."

"What are you going to do with no hands, huh?" Kate asks, still grinning.
"I'm going to tell mom." You buzz, and dart from the room.
"You have a mother?" Dave asks. You pause at the doorway.

"That was one question." You say. And then you continue.

Flying from the room faster than Kate can jog to keep up with you, you whoosh through the hallway, only to stop at the far end at the closed door.

You carefully, slowly push at the handle with your body, trying to nudge it enough to slide it open, but it doesn't quite work before Kate catches up to you, still grinning.
"Doors are your greatest enemy, huh." Kate says.

You hear a loud bang in the next room.
"No." You hear a voice growl, masculine. Mike. "We can't just go out there. Not without knowing what they're hiding. Isha hasn't come back yet."
"And she might be caught." Abel's voice comes through. Kate looks from you to the door, and then opens it.

Mike, Abel, and Tandi all whirl to the two of you.

"... That's what we can use Azure for." Tandi says.
Mike turns to her and glares at her. "I thought we were going to test that thing out on jobs that don't really matter. And this really fucking matters. Isha's out there, and something in the hive's woken up around the west side. And what can that thing do anyway?"
"She looks like a security bot." Tandi says. "They won't recognize the difference."

Remember folks, important things to learn before going out:

-Proper Security Bot Behavior: what vocalizations do they make standard, do they respond to queries? If so with what? We need to know this shit to not get called out immediately. Much of it will likely be on memory. We should also use pre-scripted info.

-Security Bot Restrictions: Where can they fly, where can't they fly, we don't want to accidentally fly into a restricted area and get assploded now do we?

-Navigation: Where are we flying to and how do we get there.

-Logistics: We can't open doors, doors are our nemesis.

-Capture Protocol: What do?

-Safety: Should we keep a copy of ourself on ice, just in case?
>>
>>43414401

Good list right here.

Especially the safety portion. Though I'm not sure we can make copies of ourself.
>>
>>43414330
This one.

>>43414401
Nice thinking. And not sure if a "copy" of us would actually work.
>>
>>43414434
>>43414451

Not without something to put it on, which is why that'd be up to them.

A relatively poor worst case scenario plan is better than no worst case scenario plan, also this would mean self termination upon capture would be viable, as we don't technically have anything to lose.
>>
>>43414479

I was more worried about the capability to make copies at all.

All we've done so far has been transfers, and Mom was rather worried about shutting us down (which would likely be required for copying).

It's absolutely a good idea, and I'd honestly like it done before we did anything dangerous, but we might simply be incapable of doing so.
>>
>>43414401
I'm thinking, what if we juiced the hell out of any prediction algorithms that we had and then used that to assist people. Basically act as a prognosis engine that allows people go full Gun Kata, predict the likely paths of bullets and such.

Provides some use outside of tech-things without just being a generic flying gun-turret.
>>
"Mom, Kate is a cheater." You say.
Kate puts her palm into her forehead. "I don't think now's the time for something like that, Azure."
"I also want to help." You say. "What's going on? Tell me what to do."

"First off, Kate and Azure, this stuff is classified. Tell nobody." Abel says. Kate nods, so you do the same. "What's going on is that Isha found a hint in the Arcturus comms that Commander Tolstoy is working on something, and we've known that their factories are spooling up to construct something new." Abel says. "She decided to go in and impersonate the daughter of one of the factories' CEOs to find out what they're building. She stopped responding, and the security bots are scouring the place. More than that, we have guards patrolling the streets all over the west side of the city. Something woke them up, and if they're still awake, then they haven't found Isha yet."

"Which means we need someone to go make sure she's okay, and if not, help her." Tandi continues. "For obvious reasons, we can't just send in a bunch of ravens. We'd need to spend too long looking for her."
"And without Isha, we don't have any infiltrators that know the current codes to get by without suspicion." Mike says. He sighs. "Damnit, you might just be right, Dahl. We might need it."

>Continued!
>>
>>43414878
>"Which means we need someone to go make sure she's okay,
so you want to send a sec bot to find someone being hunted by sec bots... sounds like a great plan when do we start
>>
>>43414878
"I agree." Abel nods, and then turns to you. "Azure, we'll need your help to find Isha. You'll need to impersonate a security bot, infiltrate the factory, and locate her. Once you do, you send us the signal, and we'll take the ravens in to grab the two of you. Do you think you can do this? Is there anything you need to know?"

"Those are two questions." You say. "I need to know how the proper security bot behavior, where they are not allowed to fly, and I will need to know where we're going."

"For the most part, they simply fly around about twenty feet up, and only descend to scan any people they see that haven't been scanned recently." Abel says. "They keep their screens off most of the time, and flash green when they've finished scanning someone."
"They're not allowed in the factories, in most cases." Mike says. "So once you're in the factory proper, it'll be dangerous once you're inside."
"When they're glitched out or need work, their screen flashes red consistently." Kate speaks up.

"I'll also need to make some modifications to you." Tandi says. "When we stole your shell, I disabled the stun and radio functions, so I'll need to get those back on."

Tandi pauses, and sighs.
"This might be overwhelming to you, Azure, but we don't really have any other options." Your mother says. "But once I turn on your radio, we can contact you wirelessly. We'll have to spoof the 'net that the security bots normally use so they don't detect us, but I think I can do that easily enough. Are you... Well, are you sure you want to do this? We might be able to find some other options."

>?
>>
>>43414878

What're the other options? This body is fairly unassuming, so it should do fine, but still.
>>
>>43414951
As she is the primary reason for us existing in the first place, I'd say we have an obligation to help, besides, we get to see the outside world and learn more, and we know pitifully little about this.

On that note, we need some mission info for this.

-Target: What does Isha look like, where would she go if everything went to shit.

-Identifier: Does this rebel group have an emblem, if so we could really use it to our advantage to have it on record to mimic on our screen.

-Stun Gun: Is it ranged or melee, how effective is it on armored humanoids, how effective is it on other robots.

-Enemy armorment: What would an average guard have on them? Guns, stun batons, tasers, pepperspray, a bright red shirt that screams "KILL ME!!!"?
>>
>>43414951

MULTIPLE COPIES
>>
>>43414951
Yes, but... If Isha thinks we're a security bot whats to stop her from shooting us or something once we've found her.
>>
if we get seen in the field by the enemy, we should make it seem that we are a remote control drone for obvious reasons
>>
"I am sure." You say.
"We should all head to the comms room then." Tandi says. "It's the best place to give a briefing."
Everyone nods, and you follow them out of the room.

The communications room is small and cramped, filled with electronics. Tandi sets you on a table and tells you to hold still, while she pries your shell open.

"Do you have any signals I could give her to show who I am?" You ask.

"I'm sure that just showing up and saying 'Hey, I'm Azure' might work." Tandi says.
"She'll most likely ask you a bunch of questions, but all you have to do is answer them honestly and you should be fine." Abel says. "She doesn't shoot first and think later."

"What will she look like?" You ask.
"Kate, open up the page for Leah Nunover." He says. She nods, and you see the image of a brown-haired female appear on the screen. It looks vaguely like Isha did, other than the hair. "This is what Isha should look like. Make sure it's actually Isha and not Ms. Nunover before sending us the signal. Perhaps by scanning her and examining her lower chin. Isha's cut a small scar there, so she probably has something to mask it."
>>
"And what will stop her from shooting me once I find her?" You ask.
"The fact that she's likely in the factory itself." Mike says. "Security bots don't enter corporate buildings. If she or anyone sees you, they will know that something is wrong. In her case, she'll probably know that it's our doing."

"And how effective is my stun ability?"
"Not very, I'm afraid." Tandi says. "It's a touch-based stun device. It won't go through armor plating, so it won't work very well on guards. It will work if you touch their bare skin, though, and it will knock them out for at most a minute."

Kate grins. "So if someone sees you, tell them that you are being piloted by a guard, under orders from Commander Tolstoy herself. Hopefully they'll buy it."

You buzz an affirmative.

"Perhaps it would be a wise idea to copy me and keep a backup."
Tandi takes a deep breath... and slowly shakes her head.

"It won't work." She says. "I... don't think you can be copied. A large portion of your mind is in active quantum memory, which is why the archival software was so hard to figure out. I can't just... save your state and paste it somewhere else, it doesn't work like that. And after you're archived, Your archive itself is so large that if I tried copying you, the copy would end up with small imperfections, which would grow into large ones when you unspool. I have no idea if what resulted would be sane, or- or even sapient. Sorry, Azure. I'll work on a better way to archive you when I have time, but... well, now's not that time."

"I... I shall attempt to not die." You say, finally.

"I hope you don't." Tandi says, and your sensors read a pressure on all sides as she pulls you into a hug.

Mike snorts and rolls his eyes, and Abel jabs the much bigger male with his elbow.

Then she sets you down again, and looks you in the lense.

"Let's get to work fixing you up." She says, as her hands plunge into your guts.

I'll run at least once every week, and I usually run around 11 AM to 4 PM, GMT-8. So you should usually expect it on the weekends.

That said, there's probably gonna be times where I break those rules, usually whenever I feel like it. I mean, I could run again tomorrow, or I could run again next sunday. It all depends on how I'm feeling.
