Nah you're doing alright. It's just a minor thing. With a rule set of this complexity I was expecting people to get more confused.

Looks like you've got a good general purpose set up. Just bear in mind the mini-gun reduces your mobility so if you want to "run around" you might want to consider other options. I'd personally recommend the Heavy Laser for fire power, or the tactical shield if you want more durability.

Two pilots!?

By the Saint that isn't exactly much to work with.

Alright here's the situation:
Five days ago a meteorite landed somewhere in the Exclusion Zone west of Landum. A geological survey team was promptly assembled and dispatched to investigate. That was three days ago...

Yesterday we received a distress signal from the team, it was badly degraded by the radioactive atmosphere of the Zone but it appeared that they was under some kind of attack.

That's where you come in: your mission is to penetrate the Exclusion Zone, find out what happened to the survey team and if possible eliminate all threats you encounter.

Since we seem to have a shortage pilots willing to sign on I'm gonna have to round up some non-mech units to supplement our forces.

The background radiation of the Exclusion Zone means that we can't run your mecha's supplementary cloud threads through the satellites, so we'll be providing you with an assault server. Don't let the name fool you, it has heavy armour but it's only weapons are point defense turrets, you'll have to do the bulk of the fighting yourself.

The Exclusion Zone is a dead place. That deep in there's nothing there but forests and irradiated ruins. There should be nothing there, which makes this all the more alarming...

The team had some heavily shielded trucks and a few drones. Like I said, the Zone has been dead ever since the Great War, we weren't expecting hostiles. As for weather our forecasts are showing clear skies.

Okay here's how it works:

Grey boxes with no outlines are concrete floors. The grey boxes with black outlines are indeed buildings. Some of these will have holes or open doors in them. The thin dark black rectangles are heavy doors. All these buildings can fit your mechs inside them. You can shoot the doors off with weapons fire or force them open using your mech's limbs.

That dark brownish grey blob on the other side of the map is the meteor impact site... just to be clear.

BTW in what quest are you the Baron of the Jupiter rings? It sounds like it would be a good read.

Hexes are a bit hard to translate movement. It's easier to parse if you write it out like a string - SW, then SW, then SE or whatever.

As for targets, I think it helps to specify what target where every time because there's a lot to process.

For instance, you have technically moved 2 SE - it's a spot 2 South East from your last location. It gets really confusing because hexes are the devil.

Fun. Fabricator is useful, but it takes the entire body slot - which means it can't produce drones so it locks out someone actually taking care of their own drones with it. That's a bit odd.

I think making it take 4 slots *total* might balance slightly better, because that way you can sacrifice hardpoints where you feel appropriate and then fill in the rest with things that require ammo / droes.

the [Run] action is strange - other things are probably faster, but with 4 Move doing Move+Run nets you very little effective move increase where you could easily use that other extra action for shooting / locking on / hacking / direction drones / anything else. Range+Sensor range being what they are, I'm not sure you really end up using Run much. The +2Def is nice, though, so perhaps if you take more incoming fire it becomes more useful.

Predators are cool.

The 1 Weapon Attack Limit + Drones is *strange* - You could link a Laser+Laser and then have 4 Recon Drones in your body slot
= 1 attack action + 1 operate drones
=> 2x LA + 4x PI = 24 ish damage? And it totally circumvents the restriction. But of course drones are very fragile and will get blown out of the sky by explosives (OR EVIL PUMPKIN VEGETABLES).

Some way of sharing Lock On actions would be cool / interesting. A Zenith with Drones+SensorPod+some sort of Command & Control Module could help direct fire (as Hetros tried to do earlier). That would be a neat way of using the more fragile but wider sensor net of the drones.

Cluster Rockets are great but limited, so that requires team-work with someone with a Fabricator. Could probably make a mean Zenith combination with Cluster Rockets + Fabricator Buddy (who has H&K missiles, emp and demo charges).

The slightly higher HP is fun because it means even short range weapons come into play when you move, which I like. Not sure how +4 Hp is "enough" for Ablative Armor. Make it +6, and take a body slot?

( Tactical Shield allows you to negate attacks entirely but takes an arm, which is fair.
But +4 HP doesn't seem too much compared to the damage output of the enemy. It did save me when the enemy hit for 16, but that's because Zeniths had +2 HP in this game. A Predator or Zenith is dead, armor or not, normally so they get nothing out of it when hit with the same strike.
And you pay the same 20 cred as for the shield, so... eh. A Rail Gun hits for 10, so 2 shots with that and you're dead, armor upgrade or no. I think I'd bump it up to 6 or 8, but then make it take a body slot. Compares a little bit.

'Course that depends on standard enemy damage)

Also swords are great. That is all.

Thread Archived. Been a while since I done that for a quest thread, haha!

I'd like a mech specifically for shooting. A module that allows 2 weapons to fire but forces you to lock down your mech maybe, or just use both actions? I know I never locked on with the railgun but with the need to reload the damn thing every turn I had to be tactical in either move or attack. If I was trying to 1v1 a mech those little mech pistols wouldn't be good for much, they struggled with super mutant tanks.
Really, I just want a pair of gatling guns and being able to stand in one spot and spit death.

Few things to address including a question from Cognis Quest:
-Yes all the art is original. The mechs were commissioned especially for this game while the equipment pictures were painstakingly modelled by myself using my weak 3D-fu.

-The full game will feature 22 Mechs and over 100 pieces of equipment spread out across 7 arms manufacturers, each with their own design philosophies.

-So yes, there are more drone types. And yes there is a piece of gear that lets you share target locks with friends. (it just wasn't available today.) I'll post a preview. <<

-The game will also have a permadeath persistent pilot system which will allow you to gain experience in one of 5 different pilot classes featuring 5 skills each.

I get what you guys are saying. Rest assured I'll be tweaking the Zenith and it's equipment to allow you to do more with it than just hand out ammo or fire off some cluster rockets for three rounds then be left with nothing.

I get what you're saying about running, but the reason I didn't make it a double move was because I wanted to discourage people kiting things around the map. Think about it: If you want to move away from and enemy you can move twice, but he can only move once then he has to use his second action to attack you. In this way you can keep him at arms length indefinitely. So I wanted to reduce the movement bonus of running, but compensated by giving it extra utility value.

For ablative armour, you have to understand that I designed the game to be lethal. My rule of thumb is: two shots to kill. +4 HP Will not make you tough, but it will be the difference between dying and limping home to fight another day. Also ablative armour is the shit tier armour. Higher tier armours will increase toughness through damage reduction instead of more HP.

Also bear in mind that in the final game you will not be fighting silly OP halloween enemies, but rather enemies that (mostly) have the same capabilities as you.

You can't shoot then run, all you can do to run is get yourself out of firing range faster... which is kinda the point? It's useless for fighting, unless you're luring someone into an ambush? You can keep him at arms length indefinitely, but you can't KILL them. It's not fun, and nobody is going to do it, and it's not like it's an AI, you're the one running it, so somebody can break off the chase and then go after squishier targets or figure out a way to corner the guy. It just adds a layer of tactical depth that's not possible otherwise.

Right now all it does is make retreat IMPOSSIBLE pretty much. It takes too long to break off the gap enough to escape.

that seems to be a theme with Guye Co... look at the damage output on ALL of those fuckers. But they're so short ranged, and only the Wimp is moving with any speed... Anybody rolling that thing had better load up on some cloaking too otherwise they'll be shot to disable... Well that auto hit gun is pretty damn powerful just in consistancy... and I think they'd make great support mechs. That Cirrus for example probably shines most when equipped with enough movement boosts to make it cover ground impossibly fast. And that cirus mobility system seems to say it's doing +1 damage for every hex covered in the charge. Can you IMAGINE how much damage that is? a 7mov total, half that in a charge, rounded up, is 4. So +4 damage right off the bat which isn't shabby.

Now that I think about it, the mine launcher should be silenced. Using it doesn't count as an attack because you can't shoot a target directly with it. You lob mines at set locations.

I should make all of this clearer in the stat card.

As for the Lancer: No. It's a big ass cannon that makes a loud boom, you can't hide that once it goes off.
