Let’s do something a bit different and look at what goes on while you are busy doing important things.

---

The city is bright and cheery under the delightful glow of the sun floating above. Imps chirp in amusement as a group of goblins turn basic misunderstandings into bloodbaths. Drones float about issuing deterring shocks to any involved in the fights, but the goblins never learn despite their growing intellect. With the great teacher’s drones enforcing order the goblins start going back to their duties when all hell breaks loose.

A surge of power is felt by those sensitive enough as Ayla shifts through the planes carrying with her an army of undead. Humans scream as the massive undead creatures shamble freely into the city’s streets. Since they are with Chief King’s woman things are fine and the goblins ignore the undead dinosaurs; no that is wrong they are with King Chief’s woman. The goblins take advantage of the sudden appearance of the dinosaurs distracting the drones to enter into battle again over the finer points of linguistic semantics. This war between the goblins is nothing new, and it is unlikely to ever be resolved.

The growing horde of undead shambles through the city as the drones take genetic samples and tag specific specimens for further study. As quickly as the undead are cataloged and teleported off, Ayla returns bringing more. The spectacle soon becomes less frightening to the humans of the city and so even the more terrified ones come around to looking at the dinosaurs.

For now we will examine the goblins’ lives, maybe other requests too if there is time. Life for goblins is often violent and short, so you may burn through these six chances faster than you may think is possible. Choose one to start with -

Yeah, we had no plan for those guys! I'm glad we have Hestia! She probably thinks something like, "My Reginald is doing something stupid and dangerous again! Well, atleast I get some new data to collect, I guess, I'll clean up his mess, while I'm at it."

Also,
>Paladin Goblin - what's it like being chosen by the king?
>>
You are, Xamr, a noble paladin, the might of your king flows into you granting you more power and responsibility than the others. Remembering this you say another prayer to King, you are confident that King will hear your thoughts and guide you down the right path.

“Thanks King, yous the strongest!” You say out loud feeling a welling up of pride.

With that done you are free to go about your daily tasks, first your check over yourself and make sure everything is good.

>Goblin Xamr status
5/5 Health, 3/3 Mana, DR ALL 5.

You feel the elemental power King gives you trapped inside waiting for you to let it out, so you manage to make a spark to light a fire. The fire glows magnificently, as a former Tribeburner you still love fire.

Yes, everything seems to be ok so you set off out of your hole in the warren to begin service to your king. A drone spins around you and extinguishes your fire as you leave, great teacher always says no fire or the warren will use up all its oxygen. Bah, you can just find more oxygens, silly great teacher.

Duties first! You are one of King’s hands after all, so you scamper through the warren. The light of the sun is bright above you which means the shamans should be awake. Perfect for you, the shamans always have work for diligent goblins.

You’ve noticed that the succubi are not harassing human men anymore, and that seems a bit weird to you so investigations are in order!

You creep up on a succubus on your way to the shamans’ temple, she is a level below you in the nexus, so you leap over the railing and try to catch her. Your legs break when you land several feet away from her, thankfully great teacher’s mini robots fix your legs in no time at all.

“That was stupid,” the succubus giggle at your predicament, “to serve master you need to work harder.”

She pats you on the head and strolls away, you can feel that she too has a connection to King.

Ah, so that explains it the succubi are just like you! Serving King, that is. You wonder if that makes King’s women mad.

No time for dallying, you rush away from the scene before you embarrass yourself more. Great teacher’s nexus get you to the temple in no time at all. Unfortunately you can’t go inside without permission, unless you want to get punished.

You gulp when you think about the shaman’s punishments, worse than being made into soup!

So you wait outside until you can grab an apprentice, they can get you inside safely usually.

“Hey yous!” Another goblin calls out to you, “yous come helps, shaman tells us to fight tree.”

You consider just killing this guy and taking his mission and glory for yourself, but a nearby drone spins suspiciously. Probably better to not anger the great teacher.

“Yous need helps to fight tree? How can tree fights?” You tell the other goblin.

“Sufficient levels of acceptance detected, teleportation engaged,” the great teacher’s drone says.

There is much light, then you look around, several other goblin volunteers were sent with you. A few already are hacking at trees, but as you thought trees can’t fight.

You dive to the left as you suddenly feel a blast of fire being shot at your group. Several of your circumstantial companions are roasted alive, you think a few of them even die. The great teacher’s robots fix them though so everyone is back and ready to fight.

The fire came from a tree, it stretches out arms and creates more fireballs to try and kill your group with.

The other goblins rush the fire tree, many of them die as fireballs strike the crowd. But you hold back since you are smarter. You think about what can kill trees that isn’t fire; beetles, fire, axes, ice, saws, poison, lightning, wait ice! Yes ice should work, but you are terrible at making ice work.

You hold your sword up high and think about King. You have his power, so you can do this!

Your sword freezes over slowly as you use your mana to fuel an icy attack.

>15 vs Tree dc 14 pass
>15 vs Goblin attack fail

With a chill wave you plunge into battle, the tree is distracted by the swarm of goblins attacking it. This gives you an opening to slash at the tree’s arm. Your frosty blade can almost not even cut the tree despite all the work Great Teacher put into crafting it. But you have success as the frost from your blade sinks into the tree immobilizing a limb.

“Yous run! Big explosion time!” A goblin yells out.

You hear a thud behind you as a large bomb crashes to the ground, and you don’t have time to escape.

The explosion shatters your goblin body and slams you against the tree, but you live. At least until the tree grabs your now unarmored form and breaks it in half using the damage from the explosion as a weak point on your body. The tree throws your body pieces to the roots of the trees around it as fertilizer.

>Your status: 5/5 Health, 2/3 Mana, once dead

You channel ice again, it mostly worked before. This time you’ll just need to take more caution and not be exploded.

You wait for another explosion to go off before rushing the tree again.

>20 vs dc 17

The tree now on fire seems to absorb the explosion and creates a vast ball of fire. You duck under it when the tree lobs it at the others and jab your sword into the tree’s limbs again. The tree bats you away with a slap of one of its arms, but you see that your icy attack has already claimed another arm.

>Your status: 2->4/5 Health, 1/3 Mana, once dead

“Yous stupid!” You yell at the goblin with all the bombs, and then you haul off and punch him.

“Yous dumber!” he yells back, he then throws a bundle of smaller explosives at you.

The explosives blind you for a moment, but when your vision clears you see the bomber throwing more bombs at the tree. The only way to get his attention is to kill him.

>19 vs dc 21 fail

Several others have the same idea and together you surround the bomber and gut him like a fish. The great teacher’s tiny robots will fix him, so you leave him bleeding out and attack the bad tree.

You draw the gun you were given, it is a small gun and it has a big warning saying not to point it at others. You take aim at the tree, and wait for an opening before firing. The beam of energy hums with power like you get from King and it cuts the tree apart easily. Great teacher is good at making things, even if it is hard to understand how everything works.

The tree’s fire is now out of control, the damage from your gun was too much for it to handle. The success of your attack has caused others to remember that they have guns too and they open fire as well.

The tree is critically damaged, but the fire is growing larger and larger. Your senses are telling you to run, run fast, but it is too late! The tree explodes, the massive fireball killing you once more, for good this time. The last thing you think of before being consumed by fire is how you’ll miss the lizard mount you cared for.

But then you feel the touch of King’s power on you! The flames from the explosion seem to wrap around you harmlessly. When the fire passes you feel a large stake of wood from the fire tree impaled into your chest, having surely died twice it seems that the robots inside you are not helping anymore. The blood loss is going to make you die for real if you don’t get healed, and many of the other goblins around you are in the same shape.

Despite the crippling wound you have, this is no time to wallow in self pity! The fire tree is dead and the others need help first.

You snap the shard of wood embedded into your torso to make moving around a bit easier and get to work.

>Double 18 great!

Channeling the King’s power you lay hands on anyone around you, healing those that the great teacher’s tiny robots are no longer working on first. There doesn’t seem to be any other paladins or goblins trained with medicine so you have to work fast and ignore the quickly numbing pain. You strength give out and you collapse to your knees just in front of the last injured goblin, the last thing you can do is heal him. The tips of your claws barely make contact as your vision grows black. An eternity, or instant, later all you can see is white.

Thanks to the heroics of Goblin Paladin Xamr, 117 goblins lived and only 39 died. The foresight of the shamans say that the flaming trees will now not spread uncontrolled across the where the Ghaele terraforming still remains in the western front. Following the incident, in remembrance of the goblins that died to obtain the unique genetic sample, Hestia began mass manufacture of personal shield units for all the goblins using the expanded manufacturing capacity she has from converting the city above.

“Zub Zub Zub,” You chant your name to focus your psionic powers. You are one of the most special goblins, the Great Teacher’s power flowed into your brain and caused you to horribly mutate. A third eye split open on your skull bringing with it the strongest attack of all the goblins, King’s bolt.

Formerly one of the apprentice mages under the tutelage of the shamans you have great confidence in your magic but your body is a bit weak. The humans look at you with disgust, even among the goblins you are grotesque and hideous after all, but you ignore them since Chief uses their brains to think things up. They probably think that you are weird chanting your name like that, but it gives you power so you continue to chant your name regardless.

“Zub Zub Zub,” Even walking through the city isn’t enough to break your mental focus. You feel something in the city twisting and moving unseen but that isn’t your problem right now.

The humans make a wide berth around you as you approach the Great Teacher’s learning center, the strange things that occur here hardly pass for research in your opinion.

“Zub you are over three seconds late,” Great Teacher tells you when you enter her office, “this is an improvement over your usual attempts at delaying the research into your unique ability manifestation.”

“What yous want now?” You ask.

“You have had ample time to cultivate your psionic abilities, we will now engage the final test,” Great Teacher says, “prepare for teleport.”

A blinding flash of light, especially bad because of your extra eye, passes leaving you in what looks like a copy of the firing range. Several things are down the range waiting for the test, this is much different than all the tubes and knives that usually are involved with these tests.

“Now Zub, please engage the targets,” Great Teacher’s drone commands, “We will begin with normal stone, then move on to the right until you reach the Hellfire.”

The unseen things worry you a little, but it will probably work out just fine. Instead you ignore the gasps and revulsions the humans show as you go through the nexus. You turn around for a moment, some of those children looked a bit unusual.

“Zub Zub Zub,” you shrug and chant your name as you walk through the lakeside district.

Your chanting interrupts the meditations of Chief’s woman, but she smiles when she sees you.

“Hello Zub, how was testing today?” She asks you, she seems a bit too happy.

“Zub, all done,” you inform her, she is the only human that seems to not be disgusted with your horrible mutated form, “Zub, see strange things in city.”

She also got psychic power from Great Teacher, but she didn’t mutate. Maybe you have too much Zub not enough Chief?

“That is good Zub, I know Hestia can be, different, so testing must have been hard on you,” Chief’s woman tells you, “What about these strange things?”

You sigh, the goblin who put this together forgot to put this note on the outside of the package. You look around checking for ambushes, but don’t see anything unusual.

“Little one,” a voice calls out, “I can smell her here, where is the woman?”

You spin around looking for the source of the voice, but still you see nothing. There is a laugh that echoes out from the fountain. A mass of flesh slides up from the water and solidifies into a vaguely human like form.

You almost take the strange fleshy thing the creature is trying to give you. But instead you shoot the creature –

>37 vs dc 35

The explosive round rips the strange creature’s chest apart and staggers it.

“Zub Zub Zub,” you chant.

“ZUB!” You blast the creature with your psychic energy.

The creature starts to burn away.

“ZUB!” Your power is slowly overwhelming the creature’s regenerative abilities.

“ZUB!” The creature slowly burns away as you watch.

A group of Great Teacher’s drones arrive shortly thereafter drawn by the explosions. They scoop up the fleshy thing the creature tried to give you. They also take samples of the creature’s body before it burns away completely. You of course are stuck explaining what happened. For hours. And Hours.

The plot of the strange creature was ended by Goblin Zub securing the safety of Evangeline. What was its true mission? Where did it come from? Who did it serve? All these questions and more remain a mystery to all involved.

You sense a disturbance in the shadows. Something has infiltrated the city, and you and your fellow shadow goblins are going to find out what it is. Your company leader has called a meeting to explain what is going on.

“Shamans say bad things here, yous know already,” Your leader says, “Shamans want things removed. Yous go find things now.”

You are Mresaz a shadow goblin, and your task is to root out these strange disturbances. The meeting finished with the Shamans’ orders and the others quickly fade into the shadows to carry out the mission. There are still a few stragglers here and there, mostly slackers.

You meld into the shadows and sneak through the city. Most of the others are combing through the residential district and the goblin warren, where more shadows can be found. You head out to the lakeside first since there are less shadows for the disturbances to hide in.

>32 vs dc 45 failure

Your explorations of the lakeside district find you nothing more than a goblin shooting some strange creature. You are not interested in creatures of the flesh you imagine, it feels more like something is wrong with the shadows themselves. The explosions from the fight cause the shadows to flicker a bit, so you move on to another place. You think your failure in locating anything this time has narrowed down where the disturbances are at least.

You go to the farming district, Great Teacher has long since replaced the vast farms here with varied parks, the real farming all is secured inside special buildings for robots to work in. Stepping between the shadows of the trees you watch as human children play in the parks. Some of them look strange, but you can’t quite place what is wrong with them. You ignore them for now and look for the disturbances.

>Double 20 vs dc 40 failure

You hear a loud sound. It echoes throughout the area. You try to hunt down the source of the sound but find nothing. No source of the sound, no disturbances either. The massive factory farms are empty of everything but the whirr and hum of the robots harvesting food for the city. A drone watches you intently, making sure you don’t endanger any of the machinery in the area. Not wanting to anger Great Teacher you shift back outside into the shade of the trees.

You leave behind the strange human children and the sourceless sound to investigate the research and manufacturing district. The factories here are brightly lit as if built for the comfort of humans rather than the legion of robots who work inside. Without adequate shadows to stalk through you look into other places.

>35 vs dc 35 pass!

As you stalk your way through the research center you sense a disturbance just slightly. You quickly hunt down the exact location of the disturbance.

The sound from before resounds throughout the area, the human researchers don’t seem to notice it, but you can’t stop to look for it again now.

You carefully follow the creature trying to keep out of range of its senses. Its presence here is disrupting your abilities severely. You reach out across the shadows and try to send a signal to the others as you move along.

>41

The message is being distorted by this thing, so you have to focus and take your time like you are working through the process for the very first time. You are confident that your message made it past the disruption. There is only a garbled response, the disruption masking the attempt to communicate back.

Luckily the shadow creature doesn’t seem to notice anything, so you are able to continue following it.

The shadow human stops at a doorway, appearing only partially solid as it watches the researchers doing their work. It doesn’t seem to be noticed by those within the room. It also doesn’t stay long, as if only counting the people and seeing what they are doing.

For the third time a loud sound echoes. This time you remember what it sounds like, a dog, from Great Teacher’s game. There shouldn’t be anything like that here in the city though. Your thoughts freeze you into place as you try to understand how a dog is here.

The shadow human strides quickly down the hallway, it stops at a room with only one person in it. The door is locked but it tries to force it open.

You remember that your daggers are enchanted to stop ghosts as well, however that is supposed to work so it should work on shadow things too. You force your body to move and stab repeatedly where the shadow human should have its spine.

The attack connects and the shadow human unleashes a horrible scream before bursting into a puff of darkness. The second shadow human turns to face you but its body suddenly flickers and it turns to run. Your fellow shadow goblins however have already arrived and they have the disturbance surrounded.

You struggle harder, flailing about wildly. During the abduction you dropped the dagger you used to stab the shadow human so you don’t have a weapon at the ready, so you make do with foot and claw. Your antics get you hurt a bit but you successfully tumble away from –

A dog?

The dog you heard barking, you assume, has spirited you away to some unknown place. You are unable to see the sky from under the dense canopy of the forest you are now in. You wonder if this could be inside one of Great Teacher’s parks, a few of them are bigger inside than expected after all. The forest is glowing with an eerie light and fog wraps around the trunks of the trees, and yet despite your surroundings you don’t see a single shadow in sight, looking down you see that even you are not casting a shadow.

>32 vs dc 30

You tumble to the side and move into the darkness. You try to become one with the dark, hiding within the shadow to prevent the dog from locating you. The subtle glow of its eyes seems to cut through the dark, you feel as if the dog is looking directly at you. It lunges into the shadow trying to kill you once more, but with the dark to support your movements you are able to avoid it once more.

Its eyes glowing outside the darkness you’ve projected the dog prepares to attack again.

The dog’s watchful glowing eyes seem to be be unaffected by you stabbing them out, which was rather unusual. It’s as if the dog’s glare is representing death itself, which makes you shudder.

>Double 27 nice!

The dog staggers into the darkness trying to catch you. The poison and magic has done a number on the creature. You are able to stab the dog several more times. The combination of bleeding out and poison has rendered the dog in such terrible condition that it is no longer able to even move, so you leave it to its fate and try to find a way out of the eerie forest.

The strange glow and fog leaves you unsettled but if you were pulled here then there should be a way back easily enough.

---

Goblin Mresaz will be remembered fondly by the shadow goblins since he was able to locate the strange disturbances that were plaguing the city. Even Hestia was unable to determine how Mresaz mysteriously vanished. A complete review of all the available data led her to conclude that Mresaz was taken by a Cu Sith, there are no reports of strange barking so it is assumed that Mresaz was somehow able to overcome his fate and remains lost somewhere out in the world.
