Recently: You've found the missing princess in the jungle and confirmed it's her. You and Robin passed your test with Vernon with flying colours.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

The large dirigible lands in the large clearing by Vernon’s small cabin, and the king and queen comes bursting out, much to the dismay of their guards. Prince Arledge and Princess Beatrix follow closely.

The queen freezes in mid-step when she spots Sera. Tears well up in her eyes.

Then she runs and hugs her oldest daughter. Her husband follows. Then Beatrix, and even Arledge.

You and Robin give them some respectful distance and time for their reunion, just out of earshot. Vernon spends some time reassuring a few of the guards that the surrounding Tangrowth and Tangula, exploded garage, and scrap-heap of a giant robot are nothing to worry about.

After what feels like forever, Prince Arledge comes over to speak with you. “We can give you guys a lift to the league and save you some time.” He looks back at his family reunion. He’s trying not to show any feelings and acting cool. Even if this technically means he’s no longer the rightful heir, you can sense some relief and joy coming off of him, as well as a mix of other things.. “I'm sure my parents will want to talk with you all when things calm down.”

You know it’ll take them out of the way. Still, it would save you a lot of time.

>Good idea! You’ll go get your stuff

You look at Sera and the rest of the royal family. From what you can overhear from here, she’ll go with her closest Tangrowth, and she’ll want the rest to come after once she’s sure everything is safe and there’s lots of food. She keeps looking back to you and becoming defensive at the guards though. She insists on keeping her spear.

“That sounds great! We’ll get our stuff.”

You and Robin run inside and pack up. Vernon helps, making sure you don’t forget anything. You’ve become pretty accustomed to living out here.

Robin turns to Vernon. “Will you be coming?”

“Nah. You kids don’t need me. Not yet, at least. I promise I’ll meet up with you in time for the finals. Until then, I’ll stay here with the Tangrowth and fix up that robot.” He shoos you off. “Well then, go on.”

Robin, trying to get him to come along, looks at her feet. “What if we don’t make it that far?”

He sighs. “Then I’ll have a heart attack from the shock of bein’ so wrong, and it’ll be all yer fault.”

Robin eeps. “Don’t joke about that!”

Vernon rolls his eyes. “Oh come on now. Go. Git. You’ll be fine.”

We're about to leave to go to face the pokemon league. Just pulled some Rocky training in a cabin in the woods type shit. Family drama is going on in the background. Long lost daughter found in jungle, royal family. Not our family, we just happen to be her spitting image due to some B list villain bullshit.

Seriously though headed for the League time to beat the elite four!

While you didn’t really take advantage of Vernon’s special technique that much, it opened your eyes to a lot of things your Pokedex studying didn’t teach you. You feel like focusing your studies so much on abilities, combined with his insights on them, have made you very confident about them. His million small tips over the months have made your Pokemon a lot more effective overall too. They’re much strong and have way more stamina.

You hug the old codger. “Thanks. For everything.”

He hugs back. Then Robin has her turn. “Thank you so much.”

He laughs. “Just beat that bitch, please.”

There’s an awkward silence.

“Uhh, sorry there, Robin. I know she’s yer mom an’ all.”

She smiles. “That’s okay. That B-b-b-bitch is going down.” She’s become pretty aggressive lately. Maybe you should talk to her at some point about it. The Robin you know rarely swears and really doesn’t threaten Pokemon like she did with Garchomp. Now’s not a good time though.

You have one more quick hug with Vernon and head out.

The airship isn’t as luxurious as you remember it. Looks like they left in a hurry.

The king and queen are glued to their daughter. They keep insisting she eat something or sit down or this or that. It looks like they’re really wearing her out. It's pretty weird to see someone who looks like you getting smothered by her parents.

Mostly bad memories from the arc. Players were far too willing to act all trusting and comforting to characters Kat had no reason to care about just for a shot at the crown. Even if they were her parents, they'd be the reason Kat's life had been pretty much complete shit up to that point; and all of it was because the retarded queen decided to leave her baby alone in a garden full of Drifloon.

Come on, anon. The players have exclusive rights to act distrusting towards every NPC ever and then suddenly suck up to royalty for a chance of power. That's totally called character progression.

When the airship takes off, Sera immediately dives for the floor. She holds onto it for dear life as the glass windows show the ground getting smaller. Her parents re-assure her and Tangrowth offers support for something to hold. You have to stifle a small, guilty laugh at the scene.

You head over to Arledge. He’s looking at a map of the region on the wall.

“Kat! Perfect. I think I have a use for you.”

“Excuse me?”

“Ah. My apologies. Let me explain. I have a proposal to bring to my parents. Remember when you had brought up the Lapras hunt? Well, we’ve never really had the clout to pass a stricter ban. The people of our island would view it as ‘selling out’ to the mainlanders.” He blows his hair off his face in annoyance. “The way I see it, we have an opportunity. We can easily pass measures to protect the Lapras, as well as reclaim their nesting area on the coast.”

You arch an eyebrow. “Reclaim?”

“Yes. See, that area has a... murky status. It’s part of our kingdom, or belongs to the mainland, depending on who you ask. I see this as a chance to protect the Lapras’ nesting grounds, as well as clarify who owns that land.”

He points out all the areas on the map. The black circle is the nesting grounds. The path shows the Lapras seasonal migration path, and the red circle is the island’s jurisdiction.

“Now is the only time to make this work! Public sympathy both on the island and the mainland will be with us. And if we choose to reward the people who found the missing princess, well, who could possibly deny such a thing?” He pats you on the back. “How would you like to become the viscountess of the area? You wouldn’t have to do anything. We’ll have people take care of everything for you if you’d like. I just need your help convincing my parents.”

(continued)
>>
>>43286566
Sounds like a pain.
>>
You pause for a second, taking it all in. He’s handing you a fiefdom on a plate. You don’t know much about politics, but what he said makes sense.

He see’s your hesitation. He was expecting you to leap at it. “You can call yourself whatever you’d like, if Viscountess Kat isn’t pleasing to the ears. The land itself isn’t really developed, but think of it as a blank slate. You can do so much good with it, couldn’t you? Protect the Lapras, build a school.” He leans in. “Build an orphanage.”

>You’re in. It’s the best way to protect the Lapras.

Could you really just take it? It feels weird. What did you do to deserve it? Then again, what did the royal family do to get it, or the mainland? It’s too much to think about right now.

You put it out of your mind and go to the king and queen.

“Oh, Kat!” The queen fusses back and forth before shaking your hand, then giving you a weird half-hug. She looks ragged, even with all the jewelry and fancy dress. “I cannot... I- Kat.”

The king, who also looks ragged, but at least more together, steps in and puts a hand on your shoulder. “Thank you. I promise we’ll find some way to reward you for this.”

You have no idea how to handle that. Plus, they’d probably react differently if they knew what went down last night. “I really didn’t do much. Robin and Vernon were there too.”

“Vernon...” the king repeats. You see some disgust on his face. “It had to be him.”

The queen hits him on the arm with her broach-covered bag. “Oh honey. You’re still jealous? I told you it was just a dance. I married you, didn’t eye?”

He sighs. “Yes. Yes you did. And we had three beautiful children.” They hover back over Sera, who flips over on the couch and covers her ears. She’s exhausted too, but not really able to do anything about it.

“Maybe she’d sleep better if she had her own room.”

The words hit the queen like a truck. She almost makes the motion of slapping her forehead. “Yes. yes, of course.”

The king looks relieved to hear you bring that up. Looks like he has trouble saying no to her. He gingerly lifts Sera up. She panics and becomes wide awake, freeing herself from his arms, taking a fighting stance and grabbing for her spear. She brings to around and backs herself and Tangrowth in a corner before she remembers where she is.

The guards are about to step between her and the rest of the family before the king waves them back. She lowers the spear and looks sheepish. Everyone spends some time assuring her it’s alright before they convince her to sleep in a room. Seems like there will be a lot of adjusting.

“Find sleep place,” she eventually agrees. The king, queen, and a guard all walk her around the ship. She passes by the sleeping room, wanting to inspect the whole place first. She decides that a particularly insulated and dark part of the engine room is a much better place to sleep and sets up there.

“So, I don’t really know a lot about your history. I heard there are some lands on the coast where the Lapras nest.”

The king tells you all about it. He seems glad to have something he knows a lot about to go over. From what he tells you, the land was won in a legendary battle between the mainland’s local king and his ancestor. His family held it for a long time, before the local government disputed the claim after the old mainland kingdom fell and a more modern democracy took place. There were a lot of agreements and deals that went back and forth, and it’s been a source of contention between the two people for generations, along with a few other coastal regions. He personally doesn't care about the land, but wants the issue to be settled some day so they can get over it one way or the other. He came off as very impartial about it, including some of the less honest things his great great great grandfather did trying to win it back.

You convince him and his wife to let Sera sleep alone. They post guards outside the engine room and agree to get some sleep at the constant requests from their aid.

You bring up the issue with Robin. She gives a retelling of the history that lines up with the kings, except she goes into way more detail about the specifics. Her summary about it seems to imply that the mainland is slightly more in the right about it.

“So, what do you think about it?”

She hesitates. “I don’t know. It’s a hard choice. It might be best to end the issue and have a safe place for the Lapras, but technically it would be breaking a symbolic agreement they made before. Then again, that agreement was almost two generations ago, when the Lapras were called a pest by some because there were so many.”

You see the league island already coming into view. Arledge will be expecting an answer soon. It seems incredibly messed up that of all the people to make this choice, it's resting on you.

“Then I think we should take it,” you tell Robin. “We can do a lot of good with it.”

She nods, giving no objection. “If we run into any problems, I know we can deal with them.”

Wow. Confidence!

You give Arledge a nod and he lights up. He almost runs over and grabs you by the hand to lead you to his parents, where he pitches the idea. The king and queen, who were just about to finally get some sleep, seem skeptical.

“I admit, the plan is sound,” the king says.

“Are you sure people there won’t be backlash?” The queen seems to be a lot more lucid than when she’s panicking over a daughter.

“Is it right?” The king follows up again. “Son, I know this is a difficult time, and I'm sure you’re wondering about your future role, considering recent events-”

“Don’t, dad. It’s not about that. This is the right thing for our kingdom and you know it.”

The king ignores that and turns to you. “And Kat, are you sure this is alright? It’s a mighty responsibility. You can delegate everything, but at the end of the day people will blame you for any problems. I’ll respect your decision no matter what, but I think it might be best to make sure you’re ready. We have a child psychologist on board for Sera. He hasn’t had a chance to talk to her yet, which I know is my fault, but maybe you’d like to consult with him?”

Is he saying you’re too young or not sane enough for it? Is he just unsure? Maybe he’s just tired and having trouble mentally seperating you from his kid. You don’t know, but you’re surprised.

“I guess I could talk to somebody, if it’s not Hornbeam in disguise or anything.”

There’s an awkward wince and polite chuckle from the family. You guess they’re not as over it as you are.

“I can assure you, since then, we’ve had many, many revisions to our security. He’s been vetted several times over. To be frank, it was almost hard to keep him because of the background checks.”

“How are things going on that front anyway?” Arledge asks.

The king, giving a sigh like he’s answer the questions a million times, sighs. “Now that’s something the mainland has been happy to work with us on. There’s been a lot of progress stopping his organization’s activities, but there’s no shortage of recruits or new operations popping up. It’s like he has no concern about the money and just wants commit as many crimes as possible.” He stops himself. “Sorry, we shouldn’t be going on about this.”

He summons an aide and the aide takes you to the psychologist.

The psychologist invites you to sit down and offers you tea and snacks. He has white hair, a well trimmed beard, glasses, and a very comforting sweater on. He looks exactly like you’d expect. He finishes typing something up on his computer before turning his full attention to you. “Sorry about that. I'm no good with these things. I'm always worried I’ll lose my files.”

You’re always suspicious of these guys. They’d come down to the orphanage once in awhile and check up, but they never seemed to care. It always starts the same way too. He makes himself seem human and vulnerable to gain your trust and open up. He’ll ask some non-threatening questions and get you talking, but it’s a trap. They tell you that using humor to joke is healthy, but you make one little joke about wanting to burn down the orphanage and they take it way too seriously. Without even doing anything, nobody let’s you out of sight for months.

Still, he seems nice enough.

“I understand you’re competing in the league soon. How do you feel about that?”

Right on cue.

“I’m nervous about the league,” you start out. It’s truthful and totally normal.

“That’s perfectly normal. It’s very common for trainers to feel stress around this time of year. Even those that aren’t participating.”

You take out Devon. You do it naturally as part of your talk about your Pokemon. Then Raistlin too. They both seem to view the psychologist as a normal person.

He asks polite questions, and you give polite answers. You don’t really touch your bigger issues, but it’s nice to vent about your concerns for the upcoming tournament. You keep expecting him to press you for more information, but he just lets you go at your own pace.

Before you know it, your time is over.

“Thanks for coming down, Kat. Take my card, and if anything comes up in the future, please don’t hesitate to call me.”

Huh. That was simple enough. You head back to the king and queen and give them your answer.

“I’m in.”

And with that, you arrange the whole thing. You don’t really have time, but they tell you they’ll announce it once they get back, and do the formal handover ceremony after the league.

You see the league island below. The craft is preparing to land.

“We’ll be cheering you on,” the king yawns. “We’ll be expected for the closing ceremonies, so we’ll be coming back for that. I’m sure Sera will want to come as well.”

“Good luck,” the queen offers. They both head back to bed. The day’s events and travels have taken a lot out of them, and they probably want to be rested for when Sera wakes up.

You and Robin say your goodbyes to the prince and princess on your way out. The only one really awake is Arledge. He looks too excited by your agreement.

“Good luck,” he offers you and Robin a hand. “If either of you two actually win, it’d be really great for us.”

“Oh, okay. I wasn’t really going to try, but I guess as long as it’s convenient for you, I can,” you stick your tongue out.

He laughs. “I guess I did come off pretty callous. I really do want you to win. After all, you’re carrying a badge from my gym. Really, do your best.” You’re still unsure about that guy. He’s ambitious, sure, but it feels like he genuinely wants what’s best for his nation. You can’t blame him for that. You’ve never really been into patriotism or whatever.

“Thanks. And uhh, thanks for the title, too.”

He gives a wave as he walks back into the ship. “I can’t believe that’s the second thing you think of. You’re a strange girl, Kat. You too, Robin.”

You watch the ship take off, then turn to the arena. It’s massive. A few early vendors are already claiming spots on the road leading up to it.
You walk into it and see the field. You know it changes between matches. They just lift new fields out of the bottom. They’re made before hand and randomly put up for each match.

You and Robin stand in the middle. There’s nobody stopping you, so you’re pretty sure it’s alright.

Yeah. This is the place. It’s just like how you dreamed when you started. You look over and you see Robin staring off at nothing.

“On that note, let’s find a hotel,” you wink. You take her hand and look around town. You should have guessed you’d have trouble finding something that wasn't booked up. Your only options are a very fancy but very expensive hotel that will clean you out, the free but cramped Pokemon center beds, or camping in the nearby woods.

You and Robin decide to put in for the hotel. Between the two of you, it takes all but the last of your money.

“Don’t worry, the championship has a cash prize,” she tells you.

You smile. She’s really working that confidence. “Okay, winner has to treat the other to dinner then.”

You go over the rules on the way to the hotel. From some of the reading, you see that the first match or two will be a doubles battle with a randomly assigned partner. They do that when there are too many trainers, and they expect a lot this round.

The other rules seem standard. No items like potions, the arena is open air, but no landing outside of it or flying more than 700m away. Does that ever come up? You skim over the other rules until you arrive at the hotel.

You both sign up for the last room. “There you are. The three bed luxury suit.”

“But we only need one bed,” Robin says, trying to act nonchalant. “B-b-because she’s my girlfriend.” Robin’s face is characteristically red, but she forces herself to keep eye contact with the desk person. “And we sleep in the same b-b-bed. Doing girlfriend things,” she stammers out.

“Okay. Well, here’s your keys then...”

You take her to the room. Is she overcompensating out of worry or what? You really should talk to her about her assertiveness.

She pulls you into the room and pushes you on to the bed. “S-s-strip! Now!”

Well, maybe you’ll talk later.

The guy went through the entire league only using a Darkrai. Then he pulled out his second pokemon.

It's... probably my favorite episode in the entire series?
