PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

“Awright, awright, now lemme get this straight…” The policemen crowded around you on the airfield in northern Australia. “We shouldn’t arrest your smuggler Captain because he’s on a secret mission, and you girls are part of that, and you’re being pursued by both the Nazis and the Japs up north. This secret mission we can’t interfere in because it involves the fate of the world and if we interfere, we will be risking Australia’s national security and the rest of the world at large. Are we correct?”

Well, when they put it like that. You nod.

The policemen all look at each other. It was about early morning when the cruisers came, having recognized the Spirit of Fire and immediately besetting upon it to arrest Captain Kozminsky. They mutter to each other, quietly in their weirdo dialect. You could hear a few “crikeys” here and some words that would be very inappropriate to say in a Christian setting. They look back down at you. “But you aren’t running for that other Jap girl, right?” You nod at that, obviously referring to Sumire. They go back to discussing things.

Kozminsky pokes his head out of the door. “Are we clear yet!?” he yells. You shake your head. “Okay!” He gives a thumbs up, grinning as he goes back inside.

One policeman gets your attention. “And this one Nazi really wants that book you got, right?” You nod at that, sighing. You had to tell them quite a bit to even get them to stand down. Kirby and Sumire might not like it, but you’re not here to make enemies. Australians are trustworthy, sometimes. “Alright… do you have a name?” he asks.

“That’s classified,” you say. They all stop and stare at you, then immediately go back to muttering amongst themselves.

Sumire walks up to you, yawning a little, wearing a dully-colored sailor uniform. “So, are we clear yet?” You shake your head, folding your arms. “What did Kozminsky do to piss off Australia anyway? Did he rob them of a lot of dollarydoos or something?”

“Oi,” a policeman points threateningly at Sumire. “It was 1.2 million dollarydoo- I mean-“ He catches himself. “I mean quid!”

Another policeman grumbles. “Alright, alright. We’ll call up your mate up in the states but no more, he confirms your story, we’ll leave you lot alone. But until he confirms it, you lot are stuck here.” Sumire groans, obviously dreading the boredom of sticking around on an airfield. To Kozminsky’s credit at least, he’s already having his men begin repairs on the ship. “Alright, boys, let’s set up a perimeter!”

“Crikey, just like the Emu Wars, yeah?” The policemen all laugh, apparently forced sounding so. You look over at Sumire, who is already moping, sitting her butt down on the dusty runway.

“Hey,” you say. “It’s not all bad.”

“We’re not even going to get to go into town,” she says. “I mean, not that there’s a lot to do in Australia but come on! Better than this old ratty place!” Truth be told, there wasn’t much to do at an airfield. And it wasn’t like you brought a glove and a baseball to play catch either. You sigh. “See, even you agree! I heard that sigh!” shouts Sumire. She stands up, placing her hands on her hips.

“Look, we’re safe, that’s what matters. We just have to wait for repairs to finish,” you say. “And hope the Australians don’t extradite us back to Japan or something.” That would be the worst.

“Safe nothing, what is there to do around here!?” yells Sumire, her voice echoing off the nearby hills and grass.

“I’m going for a quick jog, that’s something to do.” You nudge her on the arm. “You should come with me. Build up some endurance and patience.”

“No thanks.” She looks you up and down, smirking. “I like watching.” You roll your eyes. You’re not sure if that’s a compliment or not. You quickly tie up the front tails of your blouse and hike up your skirt, and then start on a slow jog. Airfields you find are great places to work out your pacing, one end to the other, very clear lines of where to begin and where to stop, and if it’s a crowded airfield then you get some interesting scenery too.

Sumire sits back, watching you go, sipping on a bottle of water. Already your heart is starting to race a little bit. Times like this you can start thinking. You wonder about Sacky and what’s going to happen to her. Hopefully she can adjust to civilized life in America, like a modern day Pocahontas. Except without dying from TB. You rub some sweat already pooling on your forehead. Running the length of the Spirit of Fire isn’t too hard, it wasn’t a particularly big Zeppelin, which had its advantages. You looked over at the engine nacelles to see engineers hanging from ropes and cables, fixing up the nacelles. Rana was among them, already getting her fingers and wrists dirty with axle grease and oil. She looked down on you jogging, then immediately stood up to wave at you, grinning. You waved back, smiling a little.

Keep up the good work, Rana.

Once you reach the end of the runway, you tap your foot along a rock resting at the end of it, then start running for the other end. Sumire again continues to watch you, a bit bored, but at least she isn’t doing anything queer.

Kirby manifested himself upon your shoulder. “Exercising?” he asks. You nod. “How is your chest?” You look down, no wound, must have already healed.

“It’s fine,” you say.

“Good, good.”

“How’s Sacky?” you ask.

“Doing very well, currently eating food I have made for her.” Hm, Kirby’s a good cook. You just remembered that, he did take care of you for some time after the Shard incident. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine,” you say again.

He tilts his head. “Emotionally?” You nod to him, definitely. “Because if not, I can tell you jokes.”

“Alright, Kirby. One joke.”

Kirby nods. “Very well.” A notepad appears in front of him out of a flash of fire and light. “Let us see… no insults against you or people you have designated friends, no insults about height, weight, or bust…” You roll your eyes. It took a while for Kirby to understand that. “There was a peanut, who was very angry, and his peanut friends asked the first peanut, ‘why are you so mad?’”

“Why was he?” you ask.

“Because he was salty,” says Kirby.

You cough, smiling a little. Okay, that was actually kind of funny. “Alright, thanks, Kirby.”

“Would you like to-“

“I said only joke,” you say quickly.

“Very well.” He looks down at your chest. “Has the Shard caused you any trouble so far?”

“Only a little bit.” You don’t like to be reminded that it’s there. But you suppose you might as well reassure Kirby of your condition. “Look, Kirby. I appreciate you caring about me.” You slow down a little, to walking pace. “But I can live with it. Once we get the Atlas back to the US, we can talk about getting it removed by Doctor K. Alright?”

“Very well. Rest assured, if you need me, I will make myself available. As your Messenger, that is my duty.” He disappears, leaving you alone for now. You look over at Sumire, who looks back at you with a worried expression on her face.

“Come on, don’t just sit there. Join me.” She sighs, standing up and quickly giving long strides to stretch out her legs. “I can tell you’re worried.”

“Of course, you write my checks after all,” she says. You gently punch her on the arm, reminding her that saying that is not polite. “Ow, come on!” She smirks a bit. “I like having your cute little signature on my checks. It’s like having a puppy printed on it!”

“Printing puppies on checks is never going to happen,” you say. “I assure you.” But if it does happen, you’ll be first in line for it. You shake your head, quickly clearing your mind of the image. The two of you begin a short jog to the other end of the runway. “Anyway, I know you’re worried.”

“Just a little bit. You’re not exactly comic book material after all,” she says.

“Well, I’m doing my best with the circumstances at hand,” you say. “Hopefully the engines get fixed quickly, and we can leave. Once the Atlas is firmly in our hands, then we can rest. You won’t need to worry for me like a sailor’s wife, and we can just relax until our next mission, okay?” She nods at that, looking down as she jogs. “Keep your head up, it’s healthier when you run with your head up.” She grumbles a bit, turning her head up. “You got that?”

“Yeah.” She sighs. “I guess.”

Jogging more or less took it out of the two of you. In the shadow of the Spirit of Fire, you were setting up chairs and a table so the two of you could have a bit of a makeshift brunch. Just a few sandwiches, some sliced apples and oranges, and tall glasses of lemonade. There used to be plenty of lemonade for your extreme thirst, but the crew thought you were serving all of them and they quickly gulped most of it. Guess you can’t complain, lemonade’s a working drink after all.

“Hey everybody!” Rana walks over, grinning, Sacky holding her hand. Sacky is now wearing one of the crew’s rain ponchos to keep her decency. They sit down between you and Sumire, with Sacky look down at the strange food in front of her. “Let me tell you, those engines are a real marvel!” Rana is absolutely covered in grease and oil. She could pass as colored with all of that on her face.

“Rana, come on, show some shame.” You pick up a cloth and quickly start cleaning up Rana’s face. She whines a little, obviously not liking you pushing up against her cheek so much.

“Aw, nothing for me?” asks Sumire. She pokes her cheek, pouting. “My cheek’s dirty…” You throw a spare cloth at her. “… okay.”

Rana smiles a little, giggling. “We’ll have the engines fixed by tomorrow though.”

“Tomorrow?” asks Sumire. “The Nazis will catch up to us then. Are you sure?”

“A lot of the parts need to be replaced.” Rana frowns a little. “I mean, we can go what engines we can fix by tonight but if we want to fix all of them, well…” She sighs. “That’s the reality of it. Not unless Kirby can magic us some new parts.”

Kirby appears. “I cannot.”

“We’ll wait until tomorrow then.” Sumire frowns a little at that. “I’d rather we have speed than a headstart. It’s already been shown that the Spirit of Fire can outrun the Nazi zeps in a pinch. We just need to make sure that we keep things closely guarded. The Atlas will be in my care. Won’t ever be stolen with me watching it.”

“Well, that I can agree with at least,” says Sumire.

Rana nods. “We’ll try to do as much as we can.” She takes a sip of lemonade, then smacks her lips. “Ah! That’s good lemonade!” She immediately takes a bigger drink of it. “But what do we do here for the rest of the day?”

“Well, I told the Australians to call #5 and have him confirm my story. Until he does, we’re stuck here,” you say. “But, we can always do something fun like uh… play some catch?” Rana and Sumire stare at you. Sacky meanwhile munches down on sandwiches like some sort of savage. Someone hasn’t taught her table manners just yet. “Okay, maybe not catch um…” You shrug. “Honestly, I don’t know.”

“Well, the Australians will protect us anyway,” says Rana. “The Nazis and the Japs won’t dare to disrupt international borders, will they?”

“We’ve seen stupider stuff from them,” Sumire remarks. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Japanese took this as an excuse to invade Australia.” You hope not. “But the way I see it, if we don’t leave now, they still might find a way to discretely steal the Atlas rather than an open way.” You nod at that. That’s a smart observation. But hopefully international waters and Australian protection will do its job.

Kirby flops onto your head, resting. “Perhaps we can use this time to train instead.”

“Oh yeah, I’ve been meaning to ask.” Sumire points to you. “How’d you do that weird fire thing? I don’t remember you ever getting to do that!”

“Oh, me and Kirby figured it out while I was still healing. He found out how Messenger magic can be applied to Magical Girl magic, and with that we discovered a few good ways of cooperation.” You smile a little, proud of both yourself and Kirby.

Sumire scoffs. “Feh. Lame.” She’s got a tinge of pink to her cheeks.

“I mean, the way me and Kirby cooperate. It’s not like I need you anymore, Sumire.” You look at your nails, dismissively. Sumire pouts furiously, puffing her cheeks out as she glares at you. “Yep, with my brains and Kirby’s brawn we make an excellent team!” Rana giggles a little, knowing what you’re doing. Sacky simply stares at the three of you, wondering what’s going on. “That’s right, Kirby makes an excellent partner both on the field and off the field!” You grab him off your head and hug him tight. He squeaks like a toy just to emphasize the point. “He’s so cuddly.”

Sumire scoffs again. “Whatever! It’s not like I like working with you anyway!”

“I’m just joking,” you say. “You seem jealous, Sumire.”

“Well, you know, nobody likes to get replaced,” says Sumire.

“If it is any consolation, our combination magic is very powerful and very expensive to use. I only allow it in deep emergencies.” Fair enough. Sumire seems a little unconvinced, but at least now she doesn’t seem so uptight about it. “Liberty is not experienced in its art, nor am I if I may be so candid, but I would be happy to teach you if you had time, Lightning.”

“As if I’m going to trust a Messenger,” she says quietly. You frown a little, then put Kirby back in your lap. She looks over back at you. “I have to say though, Libby. You shouldn’t rely too much on Kirby. Who knows what he’s keeping from you.”

“Kirby’s been nothing but straight with me.” You’ll defend him, of course you will. He’s the one who gave the powers. It only seems fair. “He’s the reason we’re even talking to each other now, Sumire. Don’t be so s… salty.” You nearly stopped yourself on that one. She quirks her brow, confused by it. “I mean, I get jealous of you sometimes.”

“Do you?” she asks. Her characteristic smirk returns as she awaits your answer.

“… I said sometimes.” Okay, digging yourself into a hole. “Look, let’s just have a nice brunch, forget about it. Wait for the engines to get fixed.”

Sumire sighs, kicking her legs up onto the table. “Fine.” A policeman walks over. Thankfully, Kirby appears as little more than a regular cat to him, and hopefully he didn’t hear the conversation you just had with the girls. “What’s up?”

“We called your friend,” he says. “He confirmed your story. You can move about as you please but Captain Kozminsky stays here. We don’t want him going into town and causing a ruckus.” Fair enough. “Have a nice day.” He turns around, walking away.

“Sure.” You stand up. “Might as well. Maybe we can go see a movie, then pick up some supplies for the trip. I’ll keep the Atlas on me though just in case.” They nod, seeing that as fair enough reason. “Let’s see if Kozminsky will let us borrow one of his trucks for the trip inland.”

-

-

The Atlas sat snug in your backpack as you browsed about the small Australian town. Rana was driving, with Sacky in the passenger seat, and you and Sumire in the bed. The town didn’t really seem to acknowledge your presence. And honestly, four girls driving a truck around? That didn’t seem too suspicious at all. Maybe something to double take at but nothing to get worked up over. Rana stopped up in front of a movie house. “Oooh! They’re playing a movie here, can we go watch it?” She had poked her head out of the window to see you, begging you to go see the movie. Sacky looked confused, trying to comprehend her surroundings.

“Well, you and Sacky can. Me and Sumire are gonna buy some supplies at the pawn shop just across the street.” Rana nodded, quickly pulling Sacky out and towards the movie house. Rana was already getting into the role of surrogate big sister, something that Sacky didn’t seem to mind at all. Thank goodness. You and Sumire dismounted, checking the checklist. “… Captain really wants a lot of vodka.”

“I don’t blame him,” says Sumire. “After what happened the past few days, I’d want to drink too.” Fair point. The two of you walk into the pawnship, a small store, nothing too fancy. The man at the counter said hello to you. “Hey, pops, we need everything on this checklist.”

He squints at the checklist you give to him. “Hm… this is a pawn shop young lady, what makes you think I have supplies and provisions for a Zep crew?”

You shrug. “Don’t you?”

“… well, I do. Damn it, nobody ever asks why,” he says. “Hold on, I’ll get some boys together to put it in your truck.” He steps into the back, calling out to some guys in a horrific and filthy vernacular. These Australians, do they ever kiss their mothers with those mouths? Goodness? Sumire leans in closely, grinning at you.

“… yes?” you ask.

“So…?” She blinks rapidly, grinning ever wider. “You gonna get me a gift?”

Well, she did buy you that Satchel Paige ball. And that swimsuit, if you want to count that. Maybe something for her would be a bit erm… You look around. “Is the gift of… money not enough?” you ask. She shakes her head. Dang it, that usually works. Hm.

“Um.” You quickly grab a teddy bear off one of the shelves. “Here you go! This is uh…” You look at it. It’s only got one button eye, the other got ripped off ages ago. It’s wearing a cute little slouch hat though! “This is a teddy bear! You can tell it’s a teddy bear-“

“I know what a teddy bear is,” she says. She takes it, quirking her brow as she looks over it.

“I mean uh, sorry Sumire. I just don’t know exactly what you’re really into.”

She smiles, giggling a little. “Nah, it’s alright.” She hugs a bit, smiling brightly at you. “I love it.” You feel your chest swell with pride from your improvisation. She pinches your cheeks a bit. “Aw, don’t get a big head! You got lucky.” The storekeeper comes back to ring up your charges. “Hey, gramps. Ring this cute little thing up too.”

-

-

As soon as the supplies are dumped into the truck, you stand outside the movie house. You got a couple of sodas from a nearby stand. You’re just waiting now on Rana and Sacky’s movie to get done. Sure, you could just walk in and tell them that you need to go, but that’d be rude. Plus, there’s no real urgency yet so far. You scratch at your chin as you sip your soda, thinking. Hopefully if you leave tomorrow the Magisch Korps will still be repairing their engines and the Japs fixing their vaunted aircraft carrier.

You check your watch. It’s almost dinner time. You hope they come out soon.

The hopes though are well founded. They do come out, Sacky looking back to the movie house in pure awe. “We saw ourselves a Jimmy Stewart picture.” Rana giggles a little. “So handsome! Hehe, so what you did two do?”

“We grabbed some supplies for the journey home,” you say. “And I bought Sumire a gift too.”

“Aww!” Sumire rolls her eyes, still holding her teddy bear beneath her arm. “That’s so sweet! Did you get me anything?” Aw, dang it. You shake your head. “Ha! I’m joking, you don’t need to get me anything ,Christine!” She hugs you tight, squeezing you in delight. “You’re gift enough for me already!” Jealousy seems to take Sumire, as she immediately pulls Rana out of the hug.

“Alright, let’s head back to the Zep. I’ll drive.” You step into the driver’s seat, with Sumire sitting next to you. Rana and Sacky sit in the back, to enjoy the nice cool breeze. You begin the drive back to the airfield.

“Kirby!” You four step inside of the Zep, to see Kirby staring intensely at the three girls that once were Knives’ companions. “What’s going on?”

“They have been stupefied. This is not something I have seen for centuries,” he says. He looks up at you. “Why did you bring these three with us?”

You shrug. “I wanted to see if they would be useful. Can they?”

“Depends if I am able to break their stupefaction.” You stare at him. “… I can, just so you are aware. I am just wondering if you want me to do it now rather than later.”

So they don't burst free at an inoppertune moment. Of course, freeing them and locking them up will result in them bursting free at an inoppertune moment, but at least it won't be a suprise.

And did anyone else think Knives was the little pink haired girl, rather than miss creepy shark teeth?

“Let’s do it now, Kirby.” Sumire and Rana look at you, shocked. “If you have the ability to do so, please do. They must be suffering in there. We should get them out as soon as possible.”

Sumire taps your shoulder. “Hold it. You really want to just free these guys? They tried to kill us in the past you know? Who knows what they’ll do now.” You look at them. They’re still locked in expressions of panic and fear. And yet their eyes continue to track you and your group. They really want to get out, and you might as well help them. It’s not about doing the smart thing. It’s about doing the right thing.

“Go ahead, Kirby.” Sumire grumbles, stepping behind you.

Kirby floats up to Court Sword, the youngest one first. He taps her chest with her paw, and the blue field immediately pulsates white. He looks back to you. “Keep in mind, I haven’t had to break stupefaction in centuries, this may not go as well as it should.” Oh boy. You cross your arms. The field around Court starts pulsing faster and faster, until it breaks like a glass explosion. Nearby crewmembers shout in surprise and fear.

And down to the floor goes Court. She twitches, writhing in pain and exhaustion. “Th… danke,” she whines. You smirk, giving a bit of an “I told you so” look to Sumire. She rolls her eyes, clearly not satisified. Now it was time for Court’s big sister Sabre. Kirby again taps Sabre’s chest. The field again begins pulsing white on blue until it shatters to pieces, this time quicker.

And this time, Sabre is a lot more active. “I’ll kill you!” she screams, raising her arms to choke you out. Rana and Sumire are quick to step in front of you, glaring her down. “… later.” Sabre steps back, then immediately kneels down over her sister. “… capitalists…” she mutters. “What gives you the right to free us from stupefaction!?”

“I just freed you from a fate worse than death, I don’t get a thank you?” you say.

Sabre stands up. “Not from me! I will not suffer the help from an American like you, always thinking you’re doing the right thing and ugh…” She leans over, hunching over and catching her breath. “I’m tired.”

Kirby looks back at you. “There is a problem.” Oh? “I can’t seem to free the last one.” Kirby continues to tap his paw against Rapier’s chest. The white pulses only seem to reach around to her legs, but no more. Oh boy, that’s not good. “Perhaps, I have used up my reserve of anti-magic neutralization magic. Whatever that is, I found out that I had that only a few months ago.” You squint. “I am relearning much of what makes me me just as much as you learning what makes you you.”

Sabre groans. “Ah, whatever! Leave her! She’s an idiot anyway! Thinks that Stalin won’t somehow find a way to destroy the Fatherland!” Sabre pokes and prods at Rapier’s cheek. “You hear that! I can call you an idiot, a moron, and a whore and there’s not a thing you can do about it!” In a flash of a second, Rapier breaks out of the stupefaction to punch Sabre in cheek, only to be reconsumed in it, just as Sabre did back on the Zep. “Ow! You little bitch! You think you’re safe in there!?”

Court stands up, crying and sobbing a bit. “Sister…”

“Quiet! I-“ Sabre looks down at Court, immediately regretting her volume. “Oh, no no no no no no!” She immediately hugs Court, tenderly, patting her head. “It’s okay, it’s okay.” She starts singing desperately in German to her sister.

Sumire folds her arms, smirking. “Congrats. You got the Three Stooges.”

Sabre narrows her eyes. “I suppose we can agree to that. But we should set some ground rules.” She holds out her hand, counting off her fingers. “One: Nobody touches my sister. Two: Nobody touches me. Three: Everyone can touch her.” She points to Rapier at that.

“This is my ship,” you say. “My rules.”

“Actually…” Captain Kozminsky passes by very quickly, drinking up some of the vodka you picked up. “Is my ship,” he mutters. Way to deflate your sense of authority Captain Kozminsky, thank you. You look back to Sabre, groaning a little.

“Regardless,” you say. “We’ll put you in a hold until further notice. Once we get back to the states, we’ll turn you over to the SSO. Whatever you can tell us, it’d be incredibly helpful.”

“Help nothing!” she says. “I will not collude with the likes of you!” She leans into your face, surprising you. “You will not seduce me with your devilish charms as you did the Major!” You what? “I know your kind, the type to seduce me with your long legs, your pert breasts, your cute face, and your beautiful eyes! That will not work on me!” She stomps her foot, surprising Court. “It will not!”

“It worked on me,” says Sumire. You slap her upside the head. “Ow!”

“Look. Let’s just get you three to the shelter.”

“Hmph, fine,” she says. “But seriously, nobody touch me. I’ve had enough of that for a lifetime.”

The three of them sit in their hold, guarded by a pair of crewmen. Sabre paces around the room, grumbling and muttering while Court sits in the corner, whimpering a bit. Rapier is still completely stupefied. But at least those three are sort of free now, and they aren’t trying to kill you. “How are the engines?” you ask Captain Kozminsky.

“Almost done,” he says. He leads you out of the hold and towards your cabins. “We should be ready to leave in the morning. But I do have to say, I am nervous. They may catch us while we sleep.”

“Don’t worry.” You wave him off. “We’ll be fine.” He nods, leaving you alone for now. You step into your room, to see Sumire already stripping down into a nightgown. “Oh. Do you-“

She smirks. “You can watch.” You throw a sock at her. “Ow.” She slips on the straps and stretches her arms out. “How are Rana and the savage doing?”

“Rana’s teaching Sacky how to read,” you say. “Basic ABCs, you know?” Sumire nods, admiring of that. You sit down on your bed, groaning. “Been a bit of a light day.”

Sumire grunts. “Don’t say that. You’ll jinx it.” She quickly slips underneath the covers. “I’m gonna catch some early sleep. You gonna be up late playing with your magic book?” She’s referring to the Atlas. So Sumire still doesn’t respect its potential power. You shake your head.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” Not time left in the day you guess. What now?

> See to Rana and Sacky in their room.

You check in on Rana and Sacky in Rana’s room. Sacky is looking over Rana’s shoulder, looking down at the small book Rana has in her hands. “Alright, repeat after me. A.”

Sacky nods. “A,” she says.

“B.” Sacky repeats it. “C!” Sacky repeats it again, perfectly. “You got it!” Rana grins, happily holding out her hand. “Gimme some skin, sweetie!” Sacky looks down at the hand, then back at Rana. Rana very awkwardly takes Sacky’s hand, then gently slaps it against hers. “Yeah, that’s how you do it.” Sacky squints, trying to comprehend such an action. As that happens, Rana notices you standing at the door. “Oh, Christine!” She grins happily. “Didn’t see you there, you doing alright?”

“Yeah, was just checking in on you two.” Rana nods, smiling as she pats Sacky’s head. Sacky appears to hold that gesture in disdain, pouting at Rana. “Sacky holding up alright?”

“Yep. We’ll have the poor girl civilized in no time. Was just about to teach her how great hot dogs are!” Rana giggles a little, giddy. You smile back. They are lovely. Having a dog at a ballpark is tough to beat in your list of things that you want right now. “Did you want to join us?”

“No, I was going to head to sleep myself.” You look to see the fading light outside her porthole. “Get an early start tomorrow, hopefully the engines will be done.” Rana nods. “Anyway, good night you two.” You gently shut the door behind you. Welp, time to turn in. Kirby floats up onto your shoulder, appearing suddenly. “Where’ve you been?”

“Observing the Trio we just freed,” he says. “They seem to be handling the situation well.” You nod, fair enough. You turn the corner, and immediately almost run headlong into the chest of a crewman. Yevginy.

“Oh, Yevginy!” you say. He looks down at you, expressionless. “Sorry I didn’t…” Some blood drips down from his mouth. “Y-…” He drops down in front of you, knife in the back of his neck. And in his place behind him is Knives, flanked by a pair of Stosstruppen. “… why are you here?”

She grins, shrugging. “You know why.” More Stosstruppen come in from behind you, pointing their guns. “Like it? As disdainful as stealth is, it has its perks.” She smirks, licking her lips. Kirby immediately retreats behind your head.

“You’re trespassing on Australian territory. You don’t have military access here,” you hiss, stepping back. Your ring glows gently as you stuff it into your pocket. The Atlas is back in your room.

“You think I care?” she says. “There are no borders when it comes to my love for you, Lady Liberty.” She holds out her arms, puckering her lips. “I would go to the Stars if it meant following you.” You’re stunned. You’re never stunned. How did she get here? You look back at Kirby, him apparently expecting you to transform. “You know, by now you would’ve shown me those lovely magical garments of yours, are you holding back on me?”

You should have left. You should have gone.

She grins, stepping closer to you. She draws a glowing blue knife, brandishing it to your neck. Mistakes were made, but you’ll fix them.

You will.
