You are Commander Sonali Vasusena, N7, Spectre and slightly tense. Ten minutes ago, you received an Emergency Message from Spectre Tela Vasir, one of your colleagues, requesting immediate assistance. Under attack in the 133 Block of Zakera Ward, the Asari sent out an SOS to all authorized personnel in the area, which is why your entire team is suited up and in the back of a C-Sec Rapid Response Vehicle. The shuttle is fairly roomy, being enough to seat your squad and four more C-Sec Troopers, all in dark blue armor and carrying assault weapons, and the interior is quite spartan.

You give your shotgun a last once over before checking on your team. Leo, your second in command, meets your gaze calmly, cool confidence replacing his customary amusement. His Argus Battle Rifle is unfolded and resting between his legs and his helmet lies on his lap. Next to him, Cath, your Tech Specialist, glances at something on her Omni-tool, brows furrowed in concentration. Her only visible weapon, a massive pistol with some passing resemblance to a Carnifex, is magnetized to her thigh armor.

Next to you, Jaro, the Heavy Weapons Trooper, reclines in her seat, helmet on polarized and bobbing slightly to some unheard beat. A Revenant LMG is cradled in her arms and a Grenade Launcher is attached to her back. Lifting your Onyx helm in your hands, you place it over your head, and wait for the hiss that signifies the locking mechanism has engaged and for the HUD to appear.

_

You were a bit surprised to see Cath wearing a suit of Partisan armor. Made exclusively by Batarian State Arms, the Partisan Armor is a rather heavy hardsuit with particularly distinctive shoulder plates. You've seen it a scant few times when fighting in the Terminus and always on very dangerous enemies. You don't know the exact capabilities, but you figure that you can ask Cath later. Cath's set is painted in a red, black and grey camouflage pattern.

You look over at the C-Sec Sergeant, a male human. “Can I get an update on the Situation?”

The man starts slightly, before stammering in the affirmative and opening his Omni-tool. “Um, about thirty minutes ago gunfire erupted in the Temalta Commercial Center in the 133 Block of Zakera Ward. Uh, well, that’s what it’s called officially but the mall takes up the entire Block so it’s just called the 133 Block.”

Leo whistles, “Big mall.”

You nod in agreement, knowing that a block on the Citadel was a cube with sides almost a klick in length, and gesture for the Sergeant to continue.

“W-well, from the camera we had access to,” He stutters as the feed appears on his tool. “We could see a b-bunch of hostiles in combat armor and c-carrying assault weapons. They were attacking everyone but it l-looked like they were focusing on Spectre Vasir. There’s... a lot of civilian casualties.”

On his tool, you can see soldiers in matte black armor opening fire on the civilians in the mall and the figure of Tela Vasir flashing across the screen, surrounded by the nimbus of her biotics. She tackles one of the soldiers and tosses two more into the air before disappearing in a another blue flash.

Anger flares in you, but you keep it controlled, direct it towards the task at hand. Across from you, Leo’s jaw tightens and Cath’s eyes narrow. Jaro gives no outward reaction, but you can sense some measure of anger within her.

“Number of hostiles and armament?” You ask the Sergeant, your gaze practically pinning him to his seat.

“T-two dozen were seen before we lost cams, m-ma’am!” He squeaks out. “Th-they were all w-wearing some kind of black b-body armor and most were c-carrying assault rifles and shotguns. A-all of them have Om-omni-tools.”

Across from the Sergeant, a Turian with Corporal markings on his pauldron sighs, “Ma’am, you’ll have to forgive him, he gets like this whenever we head into the field, but he’s damn sharp when we get there. It’s just nerves.”

The quivering Sergeant nods in affirmative. You think. He might just be shaking that hard. Those are some nerves.

“D-don’t worry m-ma’am! I-I’ve got your b-back!” You guess he’s nodding.

“Any other info you have?” Cath asks.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43265416

“Yeah, the important parts,” the Corporal answers. “Perps got into the Block’s Defenses and turned them against us. Don’t know how, but all the cameras and turrets belong to them now so most of the forces on the ground are just sieging the building. Most of the civilians got out when the gunfire started, but heat scans show they’ve got about twenty or so clustered in the Mall’s food court, probably as hostages. Not sure how many are actually guarding them. Couple of other heat signs spread throughout the building, so there may be some other civvies hiding.”

“Do we know where Vasir is?” You ask, even as you quash your rising anger.

The Turian shrugs, “No, but neither do the hostiles. We can see them sweeping the floors looking for her.”

“Any idea who these fuckers are?” Jaro rumbles from beside you.

“No,” the Turian answers again. “No identifying marks and their armor is thick enough to hide their bodies. We know that the leader is either a female human or an asari though. Leaning toward Asari, since she’s a Biotic.”

The Sergeant pulls up a clip of a feminine figure in the same black armor, holding a pistol and gesturing to the other troopers around her. They scramble to follow her commands, moving with a calm professionalism that speaks of years of experience.

“That’s all we got ma’am,” the Corporal finishes.

“First off, I need to know what modules you two are loaded up with,” You say as you look at Jaro and Cath. “And what powers you know Cath.”

Jaro pulls up a menu on her tool and turns it toward you, “I’ve got Scan, Fortification, Shield Boost, and I’m loaded up on Inferno Grenades.” She pats the bandolier on her chest with the Grenade Canisters strapped to it.

Cath shows her module menu to you as well, “Most of my memory is taken up by my by Omni-Shield and Tech Armor, but I’ve got Scan, Triage and Cloak.” She then switches to a text field with a list of Biotic powers. “And these are the Powers I’m proficient in.” It lists Barrier, Telekinesis, Bulwark, Dash and Protector.

The beginning of a plan begins to form in your mind, based on what you’ve learned. Protector is an excellent battlefield control ability and could be used to shield the hostages if Cath can get close enough. Leo’s skill with sniping will prove invaluable here, especially if he can take out the closest hostiles so Cath can get into position. With the hostages shielded by Cath, the remainder of the squad can mop up the opposition without too much trouble. Probably.

You quickly outline your idea and are met with a level of approval from your squad, Leo in particular. Cath raises a concern though.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43267973

“Holding the Protector over twenty people is going to be taxing. I can probably manage it for fifteen minutes, so we should focus on getting the hostages out of there.”

You nod in acknowledgement, and amend the plan, after getting the layout of the mall from the Sergeant. The main Mall is about ten stories in height, and each floor is actually a ring that surrounds a large central shaft that goes all the way up the roof which is actually just reinforced glass through which the other arms of the Citadel and space can be seen. Multiple escalators and stairs connect each floor and a total of twenty commercial and ten freight elevators run the height of the building.

The food court is on the ground floor, at the exact center of the shaft and is situated in a garden of sorts, judging from all the greenery. The heat signatures show that the hostages are clustered at the center of the court and several other figures are at the edge of the area, likely the guards. It’s not an ideal situation, as the hostages are in plain view but the hostiles are in cover. Judging from the fact that a few of the signatures are on higher floors, but with line of sight to the hostages, you can infer that they can easily fire on the civilians if C-Sec decides to attack.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43268000

Leo points out that it’s possible to access the elevator shafts from the roof which would allow the team to take out the enemy troopers on overwatch. In addition, he finds an overlook on the seventh floor that would be an excellent sniping position for him, one that would allow him to see the majority of the mall. Cath then says that she’s capable of sneaking into the midst of the hostages with her Cloak module and would be able to set up a Protector Field from there.

Jaro is the one who points out that you need to find Vasir and that C-Sec wouldn’t be able to help until the Block’s defenses are back under your control. A quick check with the Sergeant reveals that the Security Office is in the basement and apparently guarded, judging from the multiple heat signatures in the area. It’s only accessible by stairs and the vents leading to it are miniscule.

You frown, mulling the problem over. There has to be someway to work through all of this.

I'm thinking we should go through with the hostage saving plan and have Jaro assault the Security room once the Hostages are safe. Have a C-Sec Tech tag along with her to do the actual hacking if we need any.

We really just need to get C-Sec inside so we can sweep for Vasir.

Where are the other heat signatures?

Could we give Cath one of Jaro's Inferno Grenades and have her cloak to the Security office, use the nade to deal with the guards then either shut down, or re-program the system?

If Leo could get into position solo, it should allow us to bull-rush the hostages. If we time it with Cath's infiltration, we should be able to get C-Sec to evac the hostages (either with or without turret cover)

>>43268046
see if Leo can get into position up high while Cath sneaks into the hostages to pop the shield when Leo and C-Sec engage the enemies there.

Meanwhile us and Jaro can hit the security office at the same time
>>
You hash out several options after getting an update on C-Sec’s position. Apparently, Executor Pallin gave the order to hold back to prevent any more civilian casualties, which means that C-Sec is basically just sitting outside the Block with its thumb up its collective ass. Good thing you’re outside that chain of command.

Pulling up the real-time map of the situation, you note that there are multiple patrols going from floor to floor and that several heat signatures appear to be hiding in various places throughout the building. Likely other civilians who weren’t able to get out in time. The patrols that happen upon them appear to ignore them, leaving them in place. Strange that they wouldn’t bother moving them to where the hostages are.

Quickly, you run through your options with your team while establishing objectives. You determine that freeing the hostages and getting the security systems back on your side in order to mobilize C-Sec forces is probably your best bet. The faster you can get back-up to take out the hostiles, the faster you’ll be able to search for Vasir.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43268996

The other option is to ignore the hostages and enemies entirely and just search for Vasir. Leo immediately objects to the idea as soon as you propose it, but you clarify that it’s just an option. He still objects. Jaro and Cath don’t voice any objections, but they don’t appear to like that option either.

A direct assault seems to be the only way to claim the security office, and if Leo and Cath are occupied with rescuing the hostages then you and Jaro would have to handle that. Cath says that she can provide Jaro with a Cloak Module at the expense of her Shield Boost and Fortification programs as Jaro’s Omni-tool does not possess enough memory. That would allow her to accompany you to the security office in secret but reduce her combat effectiveness slightly.

The Sergeant informs you that the shuttle is making its final approach. You’ll have to finalize your strategy now.

As you direct the shuttle to drop Leo and Cath off on the roof of the mall, you scan the map again, looking for any alternate routes in. You need to minimize the amount of time that it’d take to secure the building, and Jaro being at full combat effectiveness would be good boon. There are no other access points that are readily available though. You almost resign yourself to a frontal assault, when you spy Jaro’s Grenade Launcher out of the corner of your eye. Something occurs to you and you immediately pull up plans of the Citadel’s sewer system. And lo and behold, one of the sewer lines runs directly underneath the hall right outside the security office.

“Jaro,” you ask. “Do you have any other grenades for your launcher besides the Infernos?”

“Uh, yeah, bunch of Standards, a few Stuns and one Hi-EX,” Jaro answers, confusion entering her voice. “Why?”

You highlight the hallway on the map, “Turns out there’s a sewer line that runs right underneath that corridor. We blow a hole in the floor, take out the guards and get into the security office without having to go through the main part of the mall.”

“Huh,” the large woman leans forward in interest. “That’s… a damn good idea. Let’s do it.”

Cath snorts, “The Citadel has the cleanest and most efficient sewer system in the Galaxy. The wonder of the Mass Effect.”

“Right then,” you say with a smile. “One last thing. Codenames. Me and Leo were part of Epsilon Squad...”

“... But you two weren’t,” Leo continues. “So, new squad name and new callsigns?”

You nod, “Exactly. I was thinking something based on the ship’s name-”

“No.” Leo interrupts.

You frown at him, “But-”
“No. We’re going to do something actually cool. My callsign is Lion. Cause my name is Leo.” He seems inordinately proud of that.

You sigh, “Sure, fine, have it your way.”
“If he’s Lion, then I’m Wolf,” Jaro adds in. “Dunno about either of you though.”

Cath blinks in surprise, before opening her Omni-tool and searching something. She pauses, reading an article of some sort before conducting a few more searches “... Ah, screw this. I’m Corvid.”

Jaro snorts, “Corvid?”

“Smartest birds in the Animal Kingdom,” Cath responds. Then her tone turns smug, “And I’m the smartest person on the squad.” A pause. “Also, I like them.”

“That’s fair,” You declare. “As for me-”

“Tiger.” Leo says suddenly.

It was pretty clear that Leo meant lion.

“Let’s go with Gold Team then,” You sigh.

You sense more than see Leo’s smugness so you tack on, “Provisionally! We’ll probably do this again when we’re up to full strength.”

“Sure, but Gold will always come first,” Leo says triumphantly.

Jaro snorts, “You’re never going to get her into bed with that attitude, you know.”

There’s a beat, then Jaro and Cath snicker at yours and Leo’s mortification. You’ll have to get them back.

“We’re here Spectre,” the Sergeant says from across the the shuttle.

Immediately, the good humor evaporates and serious expressions abound. Cath puts her helmet out and it hisses as it forms a seal. You nod to the two of them, lapsing into your Commander persona.

“Good luck, Lion, Corvid,” You wish them over the comms as they hop out onto the roof of the mall.

“You too… Tiger,” Leo wishes you back.

As the shuttle pulls away to the second dropsite, you give Jaro a sidelong glance, “Ready Wolf?”

She slams a heatsink into her Revenant and activates it, “Damn straight Tiger.”

The closest access point for the sewers is twenty meters behind the cordon that’s been set up around the 133 Block. For a few moments, you observe the flurry of activity that surrounds the building. The ME fields that cordon off the area, the running officers, the snipers in the neighboring structures. You begin walking towards the access point, Jaro falling into step behind you, and heft your M45 Savage to bear as you enter the security locked manhole. The ladder on the other side leads down into a brightly lit metal corridor, with metal gantries overlooking a stream of sewage contained within a glowing blue Mass Effect field.

“Damn,” Jaro says from behind you. “It really is clean.”

“The wonder of the Mass Effect,” you say, quoting Cath.

The two of you walk onward for several minutes in silence, following your map. It doesn’t take you long to get into position near your entrance point. Wordlessly, your gesture to Jaro, and she aims her grenade launcher at the point you’ve marked. She pulls the trigger and the world is briefly engulfed in a blinding and deafening explosion before your helmet’s countermeasures kick in. After a moment, they deactivate, revealing a massive hole in the ceiling surrounded by smoke. Quickly, you fabricate a rappelling line from your Omni-tool and shoot it up into the hole, immediately retracting the line when it confirms that the anchor point has adhered to a surface.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43271402

Your Omni-Tool reclaims the gel expended from the line as it pulls you upward by one arm, and you aim your shotgun one handed as you rise through the ash. As soon as you’re through, you can see that you are in a fairly wide hallway, that just so happens to be strewn with the bloody remains of several black clad soldiers. Swinging yourself to the edge of the hole closest to the security office, you find two soldiers, one unmoving and the other stumbling against the wall, clutching an assault rifle in one hand. With a thump, Jaro lands beside you, and sweeps the hallway with her LMG. At the end of the hall, you can see the door that leads to the security office.

Calmly, you stride over to the recovering soldier and kick his feet out from under him before placing the barrel of your shotgun to his faceplate and pulling the trigger. Most of his head disappears with a roar and a blue flash, painting the ground with brain, blood and bone. You hear another gunshot from behind you, and turn to see Jaro walking away from the body on the ground, smoke curling away from the barrel of her gun and the hole in the faceplate of the soldier.

Opening up your comms, you send out a status request signal, receiving an Affirmative from Leo and a Busy from Cath. Leo is in position and Cath is still getting there. Quickly, you fabricate a drone and send it down the hall to check on the door, but the drone arrives at the portal unmolested. Moving away from the cooling corpses, you take up position on the right of the security office door and quickly hack the holo-lock, the pathetic security no match for your tech skills.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43271734

Quietly, you sign to Jaro to breach the door and she immediately activates her Shield Boost module, the shield covering her body glowing brighter as extra power courses through it. With a surprising amount of stealth, the mercenary creeps up to left side of the door and you open it from the panel on your side, leaving your drone directly in front of it. As the door opens, gunfire pours out, tearing through the drone, but not before you managed to get a picture of the office interior from its sensors. There are two hostiles, both wearing that same armor and pointing assault rifles at the door. They appear to have taken cover behind a flipped over table. To the left of their cover position, the bank of monitors for the security system stands.

You quickly signal to Jaro to give you covering fire. The musclebound woman sticks the end of her Revenant around the corner of the door and holds the trigger down, sending a torrent of fire the way of the entrenched troopers. Poking your head around the doorjamb shows no signs of the enemy, meaning you have time to swing your fist and send a bolt of Biotic energy crashing into the table they’re cowering behind. A blue nimbus surrounds the piece of furniture, causing it rise off of the ground and slam into the two hostiles with quite a significant amount of force, laying them out before slamming into the far wall and bouncing off.

Immediately, you charge into the room, shotgun firing, once, twice, three times into one of the prone figures, causing their shields to collapse and their armor to crumple before shredding their torso. Jaro follows behind you, sending a stream of fire into the other prone soldier, popping their shields and ripping through their chest. The table, still tumbling through the air above your head, falls to ground as you cancel the Throw field holding it up.

You give the room a once over as you approach the two corpses, noting the blood-spattered corpse of a salarian wearing a security uniform lying in a corner. Aside from the the table, the only only other pieces of furniture in the room are several chairs, and one metal cabinet near the security console. Taking a quick Scan of the corpses reveals that they possess no vital signs, and the amount of blood pooling on the floor pretty much confirms that, even ignoring the gaping wounds in their chests.

Opening up comms again, you request another Status Update. This time you receive an Affirmative from Corvid and a Busy from Lion. You assume that Cath is protecting the hostages and Leo is taking out hostiles from his perch. Glancing at the cameras confirms that theory. On one screen, Cath stands in the midst of the cowering hostages, her arms thrown up and outward and pulsing with Biotic Energy. Her helm faces skyward and a shimmering blue dome protects her and her charges from the gunfire that rattles off of it.

In several other screens, the corpses of several of the enemy soldiers can be seen, many missing large parts of their heads. Every so often, there’s a flash from one of the upper floors and another trooper goes down, blood spurting from the fresh holes in their cranium. It looks like your attack was fortuitously timed, as the soldiers in the security office weren’t able to mark Leo and Cath as threats to the turrets before they died.

As it turns out, the security on this console is surprisingly tough, easily beyond what would normally be available in the private sector. Then again, this building, and its security system, was designed by a Turian. It’d make sense for the security to be formidable, although not so in the case of the door locks. Working your way through the system, you keep an eye on the cameras in case anything changes. The troopers appear to have wisened up to what’s happening and have begun hunkering down instead of attacking Cath’s Protector shield. As you watch, something completely unexpected occurs.

Three troopers, all carrying assault rifles, are making their way through an apparel store when, suddenly, a Drell in a flapping coat appears in their midst with a flash of blue light. They react quickly, but not as quickly as the Drell, who slams a fist crackling with Biotic energy into one of the troopers, sending him flying through the glass of the storefront and out into the main shaft of the building where he begins falling to his probable death. The two remaining soldiers fire at the Biotic, who calmly and precisely grabs the sides of the weapons and points them at the ceiling where they discharge harmlessly.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43272597

Letting go of the weapon, he drops into a crouch while reaching into his coat and drawing out two curving shorswords of matte black metal. One of the troopers manages to step back before the Drell strikes, his armor only catching the edge of the blade aimed at his heart, but the other is not so lucky. The dark weapon pierces all the way through his chestplate and out the back, likely cutting straight through his heart, judging from the position.

The other soldier attempts to open fire again, but the Drell is still too fast for him. His first black blade is already out of the other trooper and cutting through the barrel of the man’s gun, while the second is slashing through one of the arms holding the rifle. Blood spurts into the air as the maimed soldier flails wildly, but his squirming ceases when his head is removed by the Drell’s crossed swords.

Limply, the headless corpse collapses, and the alien that killed him sheaths his weapons within his coat before gesturing to one of the changing room in the back of the store. The door to the small room opens and an Asari pokes her head out, an Asari child cradled in her arms. She picks her way across the room toward the Drell, making sure to keep the young one’s eyes covered and, together, the three of them make their way into a neighboring store, where they resume hiding, this time in a utility closet.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43272603

You’re particularly impressed. The Drell fought with incredible speed, to the point where you were barely able to follow his movements. His style was deadly, and he’s obviously a skilled Biotic. You briefly wonder what his connection to the two Asari is before returning to the task of breaking into computer system. Several minutes later you’re in, and have control of all the security.

Disengage lockdown.

Designate all of the black clad soldiers as piriority enemies and designate all hostages and our team members as friendlies.

Signal C-Sec to move in to help secure hostages.

Run blinking lights from the main entrance to guide the hostages out and the C-Sec High Threat Response Team in to them. Make sure to radio the instructions to them as well.

Also since we have full control, access the closest holo guide to the Drell and use it to establish contact. Once we exchange comm codes using the holo as an intermediary, we can work to get them out.

Was just reading the dice rules and
>Vice-Versa, if a 1 is rolled and the other two Rolls also fail, then it is a Critical Failure.

Your fingers fly across the keyboard as you give the turrets new commands. Several seconds after you finish inputting new orders, the various hidden turrets activate, popping out of the walls and ceilings and sculptures and, in a few cases, the shrubbery. The guns, set to lethal, open fire on all the enemy soldiers in sight, tearing through shields and armor with impunity and wiping out the opposition in under a minute. Carefully, you scroll through the cameras, making sure that all of the hostiles have been eliminated, before disengaging the lockdown and sending several holo-drones out to guide the former hostages and various other civilians still in hiding.

Opening up your team’s comms, you engage voice chat, “This is Tiger, the security control is ours. Sending out drones to guide civilians out.”

“Acknowledged.” Leo and Cath say in unison.

On the cameras, Cath lowers her arms and the shield fades. She slumps, shoulders heaving. Apparently, the Protector field took quite a bit out of her. On a different feed, you see Leo uncloak, and raise an eyebrow at his position. Using flash-forged cables, he apparently secured himself to a railing and walked sideways down a wall and stood there to snipe.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43273198

Judging from the steam rising from his left arm, he overclocked his stealth module so that it’d maintain cohesion even as he fired. Risky, but well worth it in this case. He drops down to a balcony below him and magnetizes his sniper rifle to his back before he begins stretching and walking to the elevators.

You send out a communique to the C-Sec forces outside, letting them know that you’ve taken out the hostiles and that the hostages are on their way out. As you start searching for Tela Vasir, a thought occurs to you. Picking up new squadmates to help fill your squad out is a priority at the moment and that Drell you saw in action would be a hell of an addition. Quickly, you have the holo-drone that’s guiding the Drell’s group head for Cath and let her and Leo know to tell the Drell that you’d like to talk with him. Their confusion is evident, but they obey your orders.

With that taken care of, you’re able to find Tela without too much trouble. Apparently, she squirreled herself away inside one of the elevator shafts by magnetizing her armor to the underside of one of the cars. A surprisingly effective tactic, you were only able to find her by calling her directly as the signal jamming caused by the lockdown had been lifted. You ask her to meet you in the Atrium Food Court where Cath and Leo are waiting.

>[CONT.]
>>
>>43273202

Locking the computer, you stand up, grabbing your shotgun which you propped up against the terminal and magnetizing it to your lower back. Jaro leans against the doorjamb, her LMG still in her arms but her guard relaxed slightly.

“Mission Accomplished, Tiger?” She asks.

You smile, “Mission Accomplished, Wolf.”
__

As you enter the Atrium, you can see C-Sec Officers swarm all over the 133 Block carrying out various tasks. Multiple holo-barriers, bearing the words “CRIME SCENE”, are set up all throughout the building, mainly around the various bloodstains and bodies that litter the mall. Directing a few to check out the basement and security office, you make your way over to where Cath and Leo stand off to the side. They’re talking to the Drell and Asari that you directed to them, the young child now asleep in what are are probably her mother’s arms. Looking around, you can’t see Vasir anywhere.

Getting closer, you can make out the Drell’s vibrating voice, a tone of anger apparent within it. “- not wish to remain here for any longer. We would prefer to just deliver our statement and leave.”

Leo responds in a calming voice, “I understand your concern but my Commanding Officer has requested to speak with you.” Looking over the Drell’s shoulder, he adds, “Here she is now.”

The Drell turns around and you get a better look at him. His face is quite human, with a defined nose and his eyes are large round pools of dark grey and his skin is a pale green. He wears segmented armor underneath his voluminous coat, but the garment’s sleeves are plated with armor. He’s taller than you by about a head, but he’s hunched forward slightly, so it may actually be more than that. His stance and the way his eyes analyze you strike you as predatory. He’s poised to strike at any time and is constantly looking for a weakness.

The Asari behind him is quite pretty and wearing a rather expensive dress, albeit rather scuffed and dirty now. It seems quite odd that the Drell would be armed and armored in a public setting, but, judging from the way he moves around the Asari, he’s likely her bodyguard.

You look up at the Drell and he looks down to you.

The Drell’s nictitating membrane sweeps across his eyes, and you recall from your training that the gesture is one of surprise in the face of a threat. Drell can see through their secondary eyelids and keeping threats in sight is a survival mechanism. But why would he consider you a threat?

He reaches out with a gloved hand and grasps yours, giving it a single firm shake, “I am Airon Voris. A… pleasure to meet you.” His social skills seem a little rough.
Deciding to forge on, you get right to the meat of the matter. "I saw a little bit of your handiwork over the cameras when I was down in the security office, do you mind if I ask what line of work you're currently in?”

He twitches, but remains otherwise unreadable. “I am a Bodyguard to Mora T’Erei and her daughter. Why do you ask?”

“I'm currently on the lookout for people with impressive skillsets to fill out my team,” you answer. “And I was very impressed by your short display. You look seem to fit my requirements, so I was hoping to see if you would be interested in joining my team."

Another blink of the secondary eyelids, before speaking carefully. “I… would say I prefer to decline.”

There’s something odd about the way he said that but you can’t glean anything from him. Not to mention that the name of the Asari he’s protecting is somewhat familiar. It take you a moment, but then it hits you. Tevos T’Erei is the current Asari Councilor, meaning that those Asari are somehow related to her.

"Thats abit of a shame. I don't suppose you could tell me why?"

Hear his reason out first. Don't mention ANYTHING about the councilor's family. If we mention them, he might use it as cover for a possibly more private reason, hiding behind the importance of his work.
>>
>>43273743
"A pity, though I hope if you're ever looking for work in the future you keep my offer in mind. Just a curiosity, but why is it you consider me a threat? I mean no harm to your principal in case you were wondering, didn't even know you were a bodyguard until now, just assumed you were a bystander caught in the chaos."

this.

let him spill the beans first.
>>
>>43273743
"Fair enough."

Dude's already got a job, then.
>>
"Fair enough, though that’s a pity,” You say. “I don't suppose you could tell me why?”

Voris does that guarded blink again, and you note that he hasn’t closed his primary eyelids the entire time you’ve been talking with him. “I am pledged to obey the orders of my patron who has requested that I act as the bodyguard to Lady T’Erei.” It’s actually very creepy how the Drell shows no physical tells apart from his blinking.

As for the whole patron thing… you know that, due to their status as a client race of the Hanar, the Drell oftentimes act as the military arm of Kahje. Some of their children are trained to serve as spies and assassins, acting under the command of a “patron”, who is usually a particular Hanar who sponsored their training.

Voris is probably one of those children, trained as an assassin and for some reason, his patron wants him to protect part of Councilor Tevos’s family. Well, it doesn’t look like he’s going to join you, but you’re kinda curious now and directness is one of your best traits. Plus, you might be able to get a genuine response out of him.

“Just a curiosity, but why is it you consider me a threat?” You ask plainly. “I mean no harm to your principal in case you were wondering.”

And all he does is blink. Now, you’re actually kind of concerned. It’s not that he’s concealing emotions, it’s that he’s not feeling ANYTHING at all.

His answer is delivered in a flat tone, any feelings within his vibrato of a voice have completely disappeared, as if he realized that you know he’s faking. “I consider everything a threat.” No hint of a lie, but you know you wouldn’t be able to tell if he was.

There’s something seriously wrong with Airon Voris.

“Is that all, Commander?” he asks. His eyes seem to look past all your defenses, into your very soul.

"No, that will be all."

Dude's a Sociopath?
>>
>>43274058
"Indeed it is, do keep my offer in mind should you ever be looking for work. Lady T'Erei I'm glad you and your daughter made it out of this mess safe and sound, safe travels to the both of you, though with your bodyguard I doubt that will be a problem."

>>43274094
Nah, just a Drell operative, they are like that when on the clock.
>>
>>43274058

"Yes, that'll be all. Do you require transport to a secure location? I can have of my team join the escort of the Councilor's family if you need it."
>>
>>43274058
"Yes, but please take my contact info. If ever the possibility arises, I would be more then happy to employ you."

Creepy or not, he's damn effective and we need a stealth/assassin specialist after the last one we knew got ventilated.
>>
>>43274107
No need for that anon, it would be more alarming to him than anything else

though we might want to get his contact details if we find anything about this attack pertinent to his mission. adding that to my vote in >>43274101

>>43274101

Dunno man, Thane was pretty damn friendly and we've got that 6th Sense, remember?
>>
>>43274101
I dont know dude, with Sonali's high social perception, if she thinks there's nothing behind the smile so to speak, it's most likely true.
>>
>>43274148
>>43274180
We don't have telepathy, we can only read their tells, and he's trained to be expressionless to not give anything away, nothing strange about that in the world of spies and covert operatives.
>>
>>43274237
Weeell, we can actually kinda sense emotions even without any physical tells. Like we did with Jaro when she was fully suited up.
>>
>>43274257

Possibly some sort of biotic tell side effect, fluffwise.
>>
>>43274268
>Sixth Sense: Your particular circumstances growing up grant you flashes of instinctual knowledge and gut feelings.

Doesn't seem Biotically related going by the flavor text.

“Indeed it is,” you answer. “But please take my contact info and keep my offer in mind should you ever be looking for work. I would be more then happy to employ you.”

“No, Thank You,” he says calmly as he turns around. “I do not believe I will require it.”

You blink, slightly surprised, before acquiescing. “Alright then. Goodbye, Airon Voris.”

“Goodbye... Spectre,” Voris returns as he walks away to collect his charges.

As they walk by, you speak to the Asari, “Lady T'Erei, I'm glad you and your daughter made it out of this mess safe and sound.”

“Oh,” she smiles kindly at you. “Thank you, Spectre, for rescuing us all.”

You smile back at the mother, the praise feeling inordinately good. “Safe travels to the both of you, though with your bodyguard, I doubt you’ll ever be in danger.”

At that, her smile falters slightly and her eyes flicker toward Voris, but she quickly recovers, “Yes, he does keep us safe.”

As you watch the small group leave, Leo walks up to stand next to you and begins speaking. “That guy was fucking creepy.”

You nod in agreement, “But you should have seen him in action.”

Leo gives you a sidelong glance, “That good?”

“That good,” you confirm.

“I’ve met some Drell Operatives with flat affect before,” a voice pipes up from behind you, moving to your front as the speaker walks into view. “But that guy is something else,” Tela Vasir says.

She’s banged up, judging from the scratches to her armor and face, but she’s alive, “Thanks for the assist, Commander.”

"So now that people have stopped shooting at us all, mind explaining what this was about? I very much doubt its a coincidence that the Councillors family just happened to be in this very same location that was locked down by loads of hostiles clearly searching for something or someone."
>>
>>43274355
>>43274355
"A pleasure. Hope I never have to ask you to return the favor. Any idea who they were? Hell, any idea what they where after? Hostage situations only happen when someone needs to find something, say something, or when they fuck up hard and they don't seem like the type to do the latter two."
>>
>>43274372
Pretty sure they are searching for Vasir.
>>
"A pleasure,” You respond. “Hope I never have to ask you to return the favor. Now that people have stopped shooting at us all, mind explaining what this was about? Any idea who they were or what they were after?”

Vasir sighs and rubs her cheek, “Pretty sure they were after me. I’ve been doing some digging and I guess I tipped someone off.”

You eyes narrow, “What were you digging into?”

“You ever heard of Cerberus?”
