<What is our purpose, Lord Jadyk?> The floating device of black pitted metal asks you, the necrotically charged liquid within sloshing as it follows you.

"You are to learn and aid me," You say simply as you oversee your undead soldiers moving about their tasks fortifying and repairing the pirate's base.

<What is your purpose?> It asks the simple question but it gives you pause.

What was your purpose? Before you had the guidance of the Wormstar and the ideals of the Undying Court to give you purpose. But now you believe you may be all that is left of the Grand Necrotic Armada. You ponder this for several moments before you continue walking, "My purpose is my own, now. I will rebuild my fleets and you are an important part of that fleet. Concern yourself with your own purpose and that will please me."

The Think Tank is silent before replying, <I understand, Lord Jadyk. This one shall serve to the best of its abilities.>

It floats off to rejoin the Cauldron floating above it and soaking in the toxic fumes. You already notice an improvement on the efficiency of your reconstructed soldiers as they turn their attention to repairing the various vehicles damaged in the attack.

This world would soon be yours. All that remained was the handful of Osjiic soldiers at the Colony with the more powerful of the two Voidsingers still not under your control. Then there was the Dagger pirate base located on the moon of the planet. Not to mention both forces were due to visit this backwater world shortly.

You have much to do and prepare for.

You watch the progress of your fortified bunker as Jor directs the miners and drones to expand and reinforce your former tomb. The Mine's Cauldron is floated down and secured within the stone halls and chambers.

The flock of Gargoyles spread and watch from the skies as the people of the Colony seem to grow ever tenser as the Osjiic troops are whittled down. The Voidsinger receives more messages by the hour from the colony base, the Commander almost ready to recall the mine outpost to reinforce the Colony.

Time was fast approaching that you will claim this planet under your power.

What shall you do now?

A short trip with the dropship and you return to the mine. Jor and the Voidsinger meeting you as the dropship lands and you disembark with the Think Tank in tow. You send it floating down to the Cauldron secure deep in the mountain and you summon your other enslaved.

Inside the mine you look at your minions gathered before you. Jor stands waiting your words expectantly, the Voidsinger stoically silent, the Netu and Osjiic commanders glaring at each other but holding their tongues as the shards in their bodies heat up as a warning.

"All that remains on this world not under my control is the Colony and the remaining Osjiic. I'd like to get your opinions on a possible plan," you say simply and look to them expectantly, or as expectantly as someone with a skull for a face can.

Jor is the first to speak up to your pleasure, "We still have the one auto-shuttle. Could send for another and you could use it to have your troops get into the colony without a worry," The other enslaved look to the round human and the two commanders can't help but nod in approval

You clack your jaw, "Not a bad idea, Jor. I know the Osjiic will be armed, what about your former friends?"

The human frowns at the words but you can feel his acceptance of them, "There will be some but nothing military grade besides the "Police militia". About twenty volunteers with rifles, pistols, or the occasional blaster but the weapons are all holed up in the armory," he gives the location of the armory/prison that mostly saw use to give the drunk someplace to sober up.

The Osjiic commander speaks up next, "Our leader is a powerful fighter. So is the other Voidsinger. Both have seen much combat and the Voidsinger is almost ready to become Deathwatch Guard. You may proclaim a challenge to the Captain but do not expect him to be easy even for you. If you want to overrun the colony you need to take down those anti-air if you expect to get your vehicles close."

You give the command to Jor and he move to the communications console. He radios in for a request for another shuttle. They had more ore to ship back and they had finally recovered the corpses of the original miners for proper burial. The colony replies quickly with relief, saying that a shuttle was already on its way.

Evening was just beginning to fall as the shuttle appears over a mountain ridge. The first shuttle is already packed near to bursting with your troops, mostly Talons and Stingers. You board the newly arrived one and your troops crowd in as well, the Voidsinger saying they'll bring the dropships with the remainder of your forces once the anti-air is taken care of.

The shuttles take off, creaking with the weight of your soldiers but they trudge along towards the Colony. You watch the lights of the unsuspecting Colony through the window as you drift towards it. To the side of the Colony was a small compound where the Osjiic has set up their base.

Your troops were for the most part mindless besides their knowledge of combat but they felt pale reflections of emotions. Excitement, rage, pride. You can feel their eagerness build around you and you can't help but feel yourself swept up with them as they hiss and fidget.

You see the lights of the landing platforms as the sun sinks behind distant mountains, the shuttles drifting down slowly. There was a large group of colonists awaiting the landing of the shuttles and you almost feel bad about ruining their night. Almost.

The shuttles touch down and the colonists surge forward. The doors swing open and you see their faces, hopeful and mournful turn to shock then terror as they see you standing there surrounded by snarling undead. Your Talons leap from the shuttles as Stingers fire their thumpers, smoke grenades cracking off the backs of fleeing colonists.

Screams and the thunks of thumpers launching their smoke grenades fill the night air as your stride from the shuttles flanked by a pair of Trolls each carrying Necrotic Flayers. Talons and Stingers drag down the fleeing colonists, slaughtering those that tried to fight back and wounding those that fled.

You direct your forces to split up and they rush through the Colony. Groups of Talons firing bolts of necrotic energy leap over building roofs and dash through alleys as they hunt down the anti-air turrets. They leap over fencing and dash up the sides of the short towers that held the powerful laser weapons, claws and flensers silencing those standing watch.

You lead your Stingers and Trolls for the Armory where Jor had instructed it lay and to your surprise you're met with gun and blasterfire pepper you from the roofs and windows of buildings. Shields are raised and fire returned as your march. Drawing your own shardspitter you rain a hail of necrotically charged flechettes against your attackers, ripping through plasteel walls like tissue paper.

As the last AA tower is taken a Talon far off at the mine motions to the Voidsinger and the dropships take off, Chariots secured to the bottom with their riders clinging tight.

Your Troll guards levels their heavy necrotic flayers at the thick door of the armory and fire, pulses of dirty green energy striking and immediately warping the metal. It only takes several seconds of the combined beams before the bone and metal barrels glow, forcing them to stop. A Stinger launches an explosive grenade at the weakened door and it shatters, screams soon pouring from inside as Talons flood in.

Talons are met with bullets and blasterfire as they rush in firing their own weapons. Stingers step in, firing with bone rifles around their shields as they step over unfortunate Talons and quickly overrun the hastily assembled barricade of desks and crates. A brief inspection reveals the armory mostly empty besides a few screaming drunks inside their prison cells as the survivors are tossed inside. Seems they had distributed the weaponry among the colonists long before you had arrived.

Already you sense fighting among the colony but to your relief the Osjiic remain in their compound, your Gargoyles overhead watch as they arm and prepare themselves. You can sense a powerful Void presence within their compound along with their trio of dropships but they wisely refrain from fleeing knowing the Anti-air defenses were likely taken.

You climb to the top of the Armory to overlook your conquest. Smoke rises from several buildings caught on fire as Stingers trade fire with colonists and Talons leap from roof to roof to drop down on unsuspecting colonists. You watch as the two Dagger dropships rush in low to the ground, Chariots darting away from their bellies to circle the colony and harass any that tried to flee. The dropships touch down and unleash their deadly cargo, reconstructed soldiers pouring from them to aid in the fighting.

The Colony screams and burns, filling you with elation. Your head tips back and you begin to laugh as the rush of conquest surges through you, your voice echoing throughout the colony among your soldiers, mingling with screams and explosions in the cold night air.

Jadyk has finally returned.

The Colony has fallen. The living surrender and throw down their weapons, giving themselves up and struggling as they're dragged off and rounded up, shoved into a large building used as the colony's mess hall. Your forces took few losses to your surprise, losing mostly Talons and a few Stingers.

All that remained was the Osjiic compound as Stingers on Chariots rode down the few that tried to escape across the plains. The Colony burns as you're joined by the Voidsinger and to your surprise, Jor, as you walk towards the compound with your troops swelling behind you.

Your head jerks to stare at the compound, the Voidsinger tensing beside you as you both sense it.

The source of Void energy within the compound spikes in power suddenly. You look to the Voidsinger and their aura ripples around them, "What are they doing?"

"Protocol states that in the face of impossible odds or capture it is the Voidsingers duty to prevent capture by taking extreme measures. Through detonation. I tried when you attacked in the mine but you managed to stop me before I could," they look to you and you feel the tension within him, "You must do something to stop them or this entire colony will be wiped away if they drain the power of the dropships voidcores. Your forces not guarding the prisoners quickly surround the compound but hold back from attacking just yet. You march to the plasteel walls flanked by a pair of Trolls and the Voidsinger.

Nodding to the Osjiic they step forth and call out, "Voidsinger, hold! I deliver a challenge to the Captain Corot! My new commander, Lord Jadyk of the Wormstar declares his wish to honorable combat!"

There is silence for several long moments and the Voidsinger looks back to you apologetically but you feel the acclimation of power from the other Voidsinger halt but hold at it's increased power for the moment. The large gate creaks and rumbles as it slides open revealing the remaining Osjiic soldiers lined up behind heavy shields taller than the soldiers themselves. You sense the Voidsinger hidden inside one of the dropships lined up in the back. A larger than average Osjiic in ornate armor steps forward, weapon in hand.

They look at the Voidsinger and their helm folds back for the gray skinned alien to spit at their feet, "Betrayer. You shall never receive a name now," the Voidsinger steps back to your side but you feel his anger through the shard.

The Captain looks in your direction, "Lord Jadyk, bootlicker of a dead god. I don't know why you use that name but it matters not. Prepare for true death through honorable combat," their helm snaps back into place and he lifts his weapon, your Trolls and Voidsinger stepping back.

>cont

The weapon in his hand hums before a bolt of crackling energy leaps from the wide barrel and impacts your shield, driving you back with heels digging into the dirt. The shield moves and you fire a spray of necrotically charged flechettes from your shardspitter.

The flechettes of bone and metal dig into the shields of the Osjiic troopers, the Captain missing. You hear the weapon hum above you and you leap back as the Captain fires once more as he sails through the air, a pair of short wings unfolded from his back and rippling with Void energy. You fill the air with bone and metal that dig against the Captains armor as they land with a crash.

The weapon charges faster with each shot they unleash and you feel the chitin and metal of your shield heat and warp from the attacks. With the Osjiic forces so focused on the battle you don't notice the Talons scaling the walls or the Voidsinger levitating themselves over it.

You leap and sail through the air as the Captain gives chase as you both leap from roof to roof, trading fire. Your shield starts to crack and you watch as his armor deteriorates as the necrotic energy from the darts eat away at it.

The chitin spear coiled like a snake on the inside of your shield snaps to full length as you toss away the shield when it cracks. Pushing off the side of a building you surprise the Osjiic by launching directly at him, firing your shardspitter. They had no control of their arc and you crash into them, the point of the spear running through his shoulder and out through their jump-pack.

They bellow with pain as you channel necrotic energy through the spear as you both fall to the ground. Standing you kick them onto their back and pull your spear from their chest but snapping off the tip inside to enslave him.

You look up as you hear the Osjiic overrun by your soldiers. The Voidsinger ambushing the more experienced member inside the dropship with a group of Trolls to subdue them.

With the Osjiic commander already carrying a portion of your spear you enslave them quickly. Pieces of your armor shatter and float around you as you embed them with the domination runes of the Wormstars language. The colonists are brought forth and you drain the injured and dying and enslave the living.

It takes quite some time and a decent amount of your power but you hold the colony under your sway, their minds roiling before you like a tumultuous sea. You make a note to yourself to set aside any who's skills would improve the Think Tank.

You turn your attention to where the captured Voidsinger kneels in front of your enslaved one, silently staring at the dirt even as the ethereal flames of the Void shroud him. Trolls with necrotic flayers stand ready to put him down should he attack.

They glance up at you when you approach and you are suddenly looking at one of Ghul's knights eons past. The visor of the Osjiic's helm was raised and you look at the bare skull burning within the armor.

You turn to Jor and clap a hand to his shoulder, "You will stay here and command in my name. Keep the colonists obedient. The Talons and Stingers I leave behind will follow your orders but please refrain from killing my new subjects. I trust you can do this for me, Jor. My rise to this point would not have been as rapid without your aid," you can feel the pride swell up within him, "Keep up the good work," you say as you motion to the Voidsinger to follow you back to the dropship.

You can feel your enslaved Voidsinger leaching away some of the power of the over-charged Singer that glowered at you with hollow sockets. Once inside the dropship you and the Voidsinger both watch over the soldier as the Netu flies them to the Dagger base and the Think Tank awaiting you.

You expect the warrior to attack at any moment but they stoically follow you down to where the massive Cauldron awaited with the black spindle of metal rotating above it. The Trolls grab the Osjiic skeleton by the arms and march him up the ramp to the rim of the bubbling liquid that seems to churn faster at its approach and almost reaching for him.

Glancing at your loyal Voidsinger for a moment and he nods in return, you feel his acceptance of the fate of their former comrade. Levitating to the opposite rim you plunge your hands into the liquid as the Trolls shove the still silent warrior into the liquid.

There is a flash of void energy and you fear that he was finally detonating himself.

The fear abates as you feel the void infused body thrash and struggle against your necrotic energies or the power of the Cauldron and Think Tank tearing into it. The Void energy within stubbornly clings to the bones of the Voidsinger but you instead use that to your advantage.

The armor melts away from the corpse as the last of its will is drained away and taken by the Think Tank to learn about the Void. You twist and reshape the malleable bones, channeling your own power into reconstructing this miniature nova of Void energy to serve you. Sinking your arms further into the black liquid that glows and churns you grit your teeth as the energy fights against your control, expanding from the half-shaped prison you were forging.

You almost fear this was a losing fight but suddenly you feel the energy recoil back to the bones as the Think Tank drains a portion of the power into itself. Molding chitin and bone into a new form befitting a general of your army you channel a portion of the recently gained energy and power into the hollow form, uniting it to your grasp for eternity.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of effort you draw your hands from the liquid and float to stand on the edge. The Think Tank hover and spins over the Cauldron, pulsing with Necrotic and Void energy, light shimmering from between the metal slats that formed the cage.

Looking down at the Cauldron you await your new soldier. You do not have to wait long.

There is a ripple of Void energy below the liquids surface and a horned helm of chitin and metal emerges, followed by a large humanoid form. The armor was made of jagged black chitin and metal, looking like obsidian that glinted and shifted in the light of the Void flames leaking from the joints. The helm had no visor, letting the skull wreathed in flames look out. They pull themselves free and move to kneel below you.

"My power is yours, Lord Jadyk. I feel the voice of Ghul, the dead Voidknight," you look down in surprise at the hulking form of armor and shimmering energy.

You glance at the Voidsinger who stares at the new undead and you can feel the awe and reverence for this new void-powered warrior. Looking to your new champion you float down to the ground and place a hand between the antlers of its helm, "You are the first of the new line of Voidknights. Arise, Revenant Lorgul."

I'm thinking of berserkers next.
There no more pirate hideouts or Osjiic camps? Expand, hunt for biomass, and maybe create an undead who eats all living matter by absorbing or eating then transporting it to the Cauldron?
>>
>>43267314
Get the colonists to operate a cattle farming ranch to generate a steady stream of biomass and drainable life energy. We can harvest both the creature's life force and flesh to power our budding empire.

Don't you mean trolls? Berzerkers are not designed with high survivability in mind, so going through the trouble of making a revenant berzerker like Lorgul would be a waste of resources.

But the point is this way we can generate a steady stream of life energy to increase our power. So far the only source of that is captured aliens/settlers, and so far we've consistently elected to enslave them instead of draining them. If we're not prepared to start soul sucking entire cities we're going to have to come up with an alternative means of increasing our powers, or we'll never get back to our peak of being able to blow up capital ships by chucking our spear at them. And I'd very much like to do that.
>>
>>43267623
Suggestions seem to be

>Send Lorgul to capture the Moonbase
>Create Biomass farming undead
>Create more troops
>Have colonist continue farming operations

What first?
>>
>>43267623
Well this is nice, but we really need to start accumulating more biomass if we're going to start building actual armies. Right now we barely have enough to create 50 talons. Can we start up that ranch now?

We haven't got a lot of biomass to go around right now. Let's use it for soldier units and get the colonists to start earning their keep right now, once we get a bit more disposable income we can make our terrifying zombie cow gorillas.

One of you new dropships arrives at the base with its cargo of frightened herd-beasts, the hunchbacked creatures mewling in distress as they're herded down the tunnels by snapping and prodding Talons. A wall of Stinger shields holding them back from stampeding.

Lorgul stands to the side with the Voidsinger, awaiting your commands and watching intently as your soldiers herd the beasts into the liquid the bubbles eagerly at the large sacrifice of biomass.

Plunging your hands into the liquid once more you recall one of your distant memories of a former creation you never completed. More and more of the Herd-beasts are fed into the Cauldron as you remake and mold them to fit your crusade.

The liquid thrashes and a gangly creature that looked like skin stretch tight across its skeleton emerges from the edge and rolls down the ramp. Lorgul barks a laugh at the sight and Voidsinger looks at him strangely.

The first of your new creations rises to its feet and ambles to get out of the way as another four of them emerge. Quadrupedal they had a large head full of blunt chewing teeth and large tusks for ripping up foliage at the end of a long skinny neck. It's body was skinny and covered in chitin plates but you could clearly see its skin clinging to its bones.

>Created Catoblepas
>A large non-combat unit the Catoblepas is a strange creation that is more half-alive than undead in the fact it can consume great amounts of foliage and plant matter in a single day, its body bulking up until large chitin-covered slabs of teratoma-like clusters grow to great size. These teratomas are full of flesh, blood and bone in chaotic mess but packed full of biomass potential and are easily harvested for the Catoblepas to continue eating. Generates 25B daily if given enough access to food. Cost: 20B

>5 Catoblepas created
>>
>>43268313
Forgot to mention that the farming ranches generate around 20B daily per herd without thinning their herds too much. Currently the colonists tend to 4 herds so you get 80B perday. Farms also have an assortment of poultry like birds and pigs that aid in the production of food.

(SOrry I'm so forgetful tonight, cold is messing me up)
>>
>>43268386

The Catoblepas are sent out and they begin foraging immediately outside the gates of the Dagger base, ripping up an impressive amount of grass in a short time as they eat. A single Gargoyle is sent to keep watch and signal when they are ready for harvesting, a Stinger sitting ready in a hovertransport.

The ranchers and miners are told to continue their toiling, a handful of off-duty miners sent to mine to speed up production.

With Jor and your enslaved minions tending to their operations as you build up your supplies and forces for the upcoming arrival of the Osjiic and Daggers you turn to regard the skeletal knight of shimmering void energy.

"Walk with me, Lorgul. There are something I wish to know about you," you say as the armored skeleton follows you. They were bulkier than you and only slightly larger, their armor sharp and imposing. You make a note that he'll need a weapon soon.

You both ascend the tunnels and emerge in the daylight, the skeleton growling at the light but quickly growing accustomed to it. They turn to regard you with hollow sockets that burn with light, "What is it you want to know?"

"You spoke the name of Ghul, the first Voidknight. What do you know of him and the legacy of your power? Do you know if Ghul exists and could be reborn?" you ask with a small amount of hope

"Ghul is dead and dead for good," he says simply to your disappointment. Ghul's skills and power would have been a boon, "But his power remains. He was the avatar of the Black Flame. An entity similar to your Wormstar. Another Dreadstar and member of the Undying Council. They were silenced as well but I hear Ghul's voice, echoing through the Void,"

Lorgul looks to the sky and speaks with a far-off voice, "Another being that controlled the Void and all that it represents shattered the Black Flame and Ghul swore vengeance for his death and theft of his power," they look back to you, "Ghul's echoes bid me to serve you, to lead your army in your name.

He tells me, 'Make them remember the power of the Black Flame and the Voidknights', those are the final words of Ghul," Lorgul slams a fist to his armored chest and kneels before you, "The Black Flame is extinguished but it's power remains. I shall use that power to aid your conquest."

"I welcome your service and if fate allows it I will help you reforge a new Knighthood of the Void," you say with satisfaction

>Any further questions?

Estimated time until Dagger arrival: 9 Days
Estimated time until Osjiic arrival 7-12 Days
>>
>>43269333
We should probably ask our captured commander dudes for a ballpark figure of how many armed and dangerous dudes will be coming in those ships. We've got much to prepare for.
>>
>>43269167
"Tell me, Lorgul. Do the final words of Ghul reveal who betrayed the Undying Court or what possibly destroyed the Black Flame? Or what may have happened to Akka-Tor the Lightdrinker or any other number of his former allies?" There was still much you wished to know of what lead to the downfall of the Necrotic Armada.

Lorgul shakes his head, "If the Undying Court was betrayed Ghul knew not who the betrayer was. I know nothing of this Akka-Tor or Ghul's former allies," you sigh is disappointment but Lorgul looks up at you where he still kneeled, "But I know the name of the entities that killed the Black Flame. A pair of gods that claim to represent the cosmos and all it contains. Mother in the Void and Father from the Solar," Lorgul spits the names with bile.

You rub your boney chin in thought, "Impressive titles indeed. We shall likely have to deal with them in the future and you may yet get your revenge if the clockwork of the universe chimes in that direction," you wave dismissively, "The Cauldron is yours, create for yourself weapons befitting of your power and rank."

Lorgul stands and salutes with a fist thumping to his chest and he descends into the dark once more. He approaches the Cauldron and greets the Think Tank as he plunges his hands into the liquid that boils at his touch.

He pulls forth a massive bladed maul that pulses with the Void and a Necrotic Flayer he could easily wield one-handed like an overpowered pistol.

You spend your time interrogating the captured leaders of their approaching fleets and you realize that you have your work cut out for you.

The Osjiic Scout fleet is predicted to contain at least a single Cruiser with multiple corvettes, dropships, and fighters. They were sure to have at least several Voidsingers of their own.

The Dagger Clanship is a sub-capital Battlecruiser supported by a handful of Cruisers with an array of corvettes, dropships, and fighters.

Six-limbed primates with algae covered fur, serpentine creatures with powerful venom, heavy shelled creatures that were nearly impossible to pry away from rocks or trees while still alive, a long-legged and fast creature they encountered on the large plains, and to your surprise an aquatic version of the raptorsnake but with its wings and limbs turned to flippers and capable of generating a powerful electric shock in defense or to hunt.
