You try to pull him off you but he's got fingers like a vice and he refuses to loosen his grip as you fall! His shiny silver mask glints in the moonlight, hiding his eyes and features.

You try to twist free instead as you fall, getting just enough leverage to get some air, though still not enough to circulate your qi. This guy knew what he was doing when he started the fight; by choking off your air supply you can't use any of your breathing techniques.
He's not out for a fight or vengeance like Qiu Qiang is, just to kill you.

"GGhhhKKK!" you gargle as you get a small amount of air!

"PoOr cHoiCe of LaSt WordS!" he taunts coldly.

"I....said.....KAMUSHIIIIIIN!" you shout as loudly as you can, putting as much internal energy as you can manage into it, your voice echoing across the city and empty night air.

"SKREEEEEE!" comes the answering cry, and vast white shape swoops from the clouds towards the both of you as you fall.

Han Ren's eyes widened as the echo of his voice reached them and the Great White Condor swooped after the plummeting figures.

The xia laughed heartily with a woman in each arm as he sipped the wine, which was just as good as the resturaunt owner claimed it would be, high class stuff.

"Get! OFF!" you grunt as you pull back a powerful right kick and knock him off you onto his back, which he swiftly kip-ups to his feet in response just as you do the same, both of you balancing on the condor's back.

His white and silver mask with black lacquer on it glints in the cold moonlight, hiding his features except his lower jaw and eyes, both of which are in shadows.

His qi is way fucked up.
Earlier he hid his presence so well it was like he never even existed, hiding it even better then you can using that Tang Clan skill Zhu'er taught you where you blend in with the backround, but then when he stopped concealing himself his killing intent was so overwhelming that it almost became a physical pain when you detected it the first time.
His internal energy is screwed up; his breathing is ragged and strange like no other internal skill you've seen but he's still still freakishly strong, moving like he's heavy as lead and lighter then air at the same time.

He howls and leaps forward, his sickly-glowing skeletal claws leaving cobalt contrails at the fingers in the night air, and you parry a left strike at your side with your right wrist and pull back your head to dodge the left!
You instantly move to counter, stepping towards him and throwing a right kick at his knee which he promptly parries by raising his foot and knocking it aside as you swing a right whip-fist at his skull which he has to party with his right forearm!

It's all a distraction, and you step in farther and launch a heavy right low hook at his exposed left with all of your upper body weight and momentuum, landing a blow like iron lightning into his liver before pulling back a left palm strike and slamming it into his ribcage hard enough to feel something give in his torso!

You grin as he falls back, staggering.
That time down south REALLY helped you with your in-fighting; since you learned that Yue boxing stuff you can use your elbows and knees just as well as your fists and feet!

You pull closer, throwing a brutal right hook which he blocks with one arm, before landing another in his kidneys to the right, pulling back slightly to hook his head with your left elbow behind his neck and dragging him down to hammer your left knee into his guts!

Yue-boxing is different from Han-style stuff; it's got less internal energy mastery, but compensates with huge amounts of brute force and power, using speed and violence and body-conditioning to supplant the rather basic internal arts they have down there!

Sky's been learning the principles and techniques of Thai-style martial methods and incorporating them into his learned maneuvers.

You pull back and land a swift left jab on his face that feels like it shakes something loose, then toss a right cross that land straight on his silver and white porcelain mask and shatters it, knocking him to his back!

He staggers before rising back up.
His broken nose fountains blood and there's red stains on his teeth bared into a feral grin, and he'd actually be not bad-looking if it weren't for the psychotic grimace on his features and his eyes, which have the whites and blacks somehow inverted in color....

He lunges forward again, and you raise an arm up to block, but the glowing skeletal talons lock into your arm and pierce the flesh like rice paper, eliciting a grunt of agony!

"iS THAT wHat yoU conSIDer PaiN, LighTning TIGer?!" he laughs, blood flicking from his mouth (are his organs bleeding? Why doesn't he notice?) as he expels air like a dying man's breath.

"I'lL SHOW yOu whaT ReaL paIN feeLs LIKE!" he howls, and his talons dig deeper into your arm, causing incredible icy agony, and he slashes in another strike the rakes across your face and your left eye, and you feel white-hot pain lance across your eyelid!

Long running manga authors make up lots of lore as they go along because the objective is to keep the manga going as long as possible so they can get the sweet, sweet IP rights to all secondary products sold.
Hell, the Bleach guy openly admitted to making the shit up as he goes, he's just good at tying it together. Retroactively tying unused concepts together is not particularly hard, after all.

Mine took a bit more planning, but also borrowed from a number of existing Wuxia fiction sources.
WHQ was sort of created originally as an "introduction" to Wuxia fiction presented in a format easier for folks to grasp.

It's not a very common weapon in modern wushu, which generally likes to have swords and sabers be more clearly defined, though in most wuxia stories they don't particularly describe in detail legendary weapons.

Storm Riders, being a visual medium (a manhua), was a bit better then that was.
Storm Riders was a heavy inspiration for both the Legends of the Wulin RPG and it's predecessor Weapons of the Gods (at least one legendary weapon was straight ripped straight off it), as well as this very quest.

There is an element of "do not acquire power/defy the gods" mentality in several Eastern stories, this isn't limited to wuxia, even the oldest Japanese story, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Kaguya), has this buddhist moral.

In Sword of the Yueh Maiden, the titular character cannot become the main character's bride, perhaps for the better.

Muggles and the jianghu, mortals and gods, etc. shouldn't mix.

You roll with the impact, landing on a table and trying to roll off of it before it simply shatter from your weight and the force of the fall, shrieks and yelps of surprise coming from the crowded room you just fell into as you roll onto the grown, breaking your momentum!

"Ugh....fucking...weird-ass...zombie...motherfucker....," you grumble, rolling onto your back and trying to get up.
You ache EVERYWHERE; if your Yue-style boxing hadn't conditioned the fuck out of your body you'd be messed up. As it is you're just going to have a ton of bruises and nasty splinters.

He's several inches taller then you and doesn't bother closing his shirt and showing off his manly, well-defined pecs, he's got biceps the size of melons and sun-bronzed skin on his arms, a manly stubble on his chin and brown hair kept short.

He looks wealthy and roughshod at the same time.

Like , taking OP for example; you have the Three Powers of Government, Pirates and the Warlords and then the Pirates have the 4 great captains and then Government has its owns structure going on.

Like, even a set number of "major houses' maybe tie that into Chinese numerology or something, or even a rough categorization of the houses into genres based on philosophy or style; it feels a lot like a stream of consciousness list of cool faction ideas.

I mean even Game of Thrones, or to keep it Chineese Romance of the Three Kingdoms knows the values of sorting the factions in some way. The op just seems to be a bit over the place; especially with the several federated factions like the Four New Houses or the Heavenly Sword Alliance, even something as simple as having "Ten Major Houses" to fit in with the top ten theme or since this is a Wuxia riff, do a take off of the Eight Great Schools (especially since you use several of them here) or maybe the traditional 18 Chinese provinces, or the overcoming and united paths of the Wu Xing; and then you have the Vietnamese fire cult and the Muslims of central asia as the "foreign styles" sorry if I seem like I am sperging I get this way when i find something really cool. "Yeah, I heard. Too bad the tournament couldn't happen a year ago, right?" he says with a manly grin of self-assurance.

"Faction Opera") is some for of periodization of the groups , that Jin Yong flow that goes back to what Guanzhong did with the original Romance.(Or to use a western analogy the post Tolkein fantasy styling)

Even something as vague as having countless major and minor houses still sorted into broader religious geographic or political groupies would serve the similar purpose because when you frame it as a mess of a free for all, you loose a lot of the context of conflict that forms a richer story in the end.

Seriously though I am a fan, and am playing in other posts so I am not just throwing shit here, I really like what you are doings and enjoy that we are having a fun conversation on the game we both love.

The crazed xia darts forward at both of you....or mostly at you, and you turn and expose your back to him only to kick off a support pillar for the upper floor (you appear to be on some kind of second-story balcony thing overlooking a courtyard inside the building) and spinning into a kick which stops the Ghost short as Hawk moves in with slashing talon-like fingers he has to dodge and parry aside!

You move up on the opposite side of Hawk's slashing and thrusting fingers, sending a rapid-fire series of kicks the Ghosy has to leap back from!
You leap into the air like a cloud just as Hawk does the same, crossing each other in mid-leap and reversing the routine, you throwing brutal and swift punches while Hawk sends flying powerful kicks punctuated by claw-slashes!

You notice as his fingers pass near a wooden pillar just in front of his fingers a series of for razor-thing claw-marks appear on the wood, as if Hawk's fingers were longer and sharper then they actually are!
Hawk basically uses Nanto Seiken when fighting.

The Ghost's right hand flashes down to his side and comes up with a crack, his white snakeskin whip blurring out between you as you both pull your head back at the same time!

"How's the eye?" Hawk asks as he leaps into a flying kick just as you do the same, trying to close the distance between you both and that whip!

"Fucked up, I can't see on my left side!" you admit.

The white whip wraps around your leg and yanks you to the side with incredible force, slamming you into some empty tables as he dodge's Hawk's kick and Hawk tries to put him on defensive!

He's less outwardly obsessed with women and more into just enjoying himself, which includes fighting interesting fights and drinking, and unlike Juza there's absolutely zero "hidden depth" to Han Ying; what you see is what you get.

His style is based off of real-life Eagle Claw boxing, which has both grapples and chin na locks and lots of aerobatic kicks and Long Fist strikes, which here look a lot like Shin's Nanto Koshou Ken.

You get up, shaking yourself off a bit as Hawk moves with flashing speed at the Ghost, claw parrying claw as he tries to overwhelm the weird xia with sheer velocity and the other uses hellish ferocity in return to put Hawk on the defensive, neither gaining ground!

Hawk's slashing fingers score minor hits on the Ghost, but he's seemingly immune to pain and fights with suicidal abandon, trying to land strikes that would viciously injure Hawk but would leave him open to counter-attacks, seemingly exploiting the fact that the Eagle Talon hero actually cares if he's injured or not while the Ghost does not!

You stand up and kick a nearby wooden stool at the Ghost, who responds by drawing out his bone white whip and cracking it through the air hard enough to split the wooden stool in twain!
Hawk launches himself into another flying kick at the now-exposed Ghost in response, who is forced to pull back rather then receive the full weight of the blow!

In mid-dodge you Traverse the Instant Path towards him, crossing Hawk's flight path as he sails past your foe, leaving glowing blue trail as a thunderclap splits the air and you shoulder HARD into the Ghost like a thunderbolt, sending him slamming into the opposite wall just next to the window you destroyed coming inside!

You rush up and let him have it, Rotating Yin and Yang and tossing a full flying right hook at him, sparking blue flame and cobalt lightning as you land it on his block!

He grunts as the tremendous impact slams into him deeper into the wall, already dented from the force of your Form Two hit, his body seizing up with electricity before you slam another lighting-charged left hook into his gut, driving him deeper before you spin and land a final Form One empowered kick that drives him straight through the wall and out into the night air, falling to the street below!

"FUCK your shit!" you say as you plant your feet back onto the ground, a little wobbly from such heavy exertions of power in such a short period of time.
The injuries he gave you are messing you up a bit and with your eye out your balance is a bit shaky.

You both leap out into the alley beside the restaurant without another word, landing facing opposite directions.

You see nothing.
"Where'd that creeper go?" Hawk asks quietly.
"I dunno. He can hide is presence almost perfectly though, and the shots I hit him with should've messed him up pretty bad, maybe even stopped his heart. If he's still getting up and hiding then there's something seriously messed up with his body," you note.

"I'll say. Man, what the hell you DO to this guy that he'd fuck up his internal energy so much just to kill you?" Hawk wonders as you both circle the alley, backs to each other.

"Hell if I know. I only ever met the guy today."
Hawk laughs at that.
"Man, when you make a bad first impression you don't screw around, do you?" he jokes.

"Yeah, tell me about it. At first I though he was after my employer but-", you begin, before pausing and thinking back to months ago.

Been noticing something of a bloat of quest threads since I came back.
Not sure that's a good thing; they probably deserve their own board rather then clot up /tg/ with sometimes only semi-related content.

This isn't that far off. Part of the problem with both is that neither have a home base and both can move EXTREMELY quickly thanks to how good they are at Lightfoot and how Sky travels by wing rather then on foot. Neither of them leave predictable patterns to follow.
