You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.
Previously you discovered some abnormalities in Pandora's systems that needed correcting via debugging. Afterward, during her lessons, you thought she might have a penchant for singing should you procure her some upgrades. After the lessons, agent Arikawa of the CIA informed you that the government was already interested in combat applications for the AI, which you politely declined. Then, after a chat with the R&D team, you discovered the source of the issues with Pandora may have been an older version of her base code they had been using to make her software upgrades. You agreed to not tattle to your superiors about it.
Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

You awake to the harsh buzzing of your alarm once again, a yawn escaping your lips as you scratch yourself and trudge out of bed. You stretch and begin your morning rituals. It's Friday, the last day of lessons for the week, today being Grace's day to assist. The memories of yesterday's discussions with both Arikawa and Mouse claw their way to the front of your mind and you are beset upon by yet more unwanted stress.
You have a little time to kill before you have to meet up for Pandora's lessons, what should you do?

Huzzah! You've returned!

I've got a question. Is Pandora capable of waking herself up after her recharging sequence, and is it possible for her to boot up automatically after a particularly bad dream? Because if she can, maybe we should spend the night in case of electric night terrors to help calm her down.

I would teach her how to teach, which could be usefull when android 2 comes around.
I might also help her understand how we teach and thus help her learn.

>Go to the mess hall, then eavesdrop on the security team.
>>
After your morning cleansing, you make your way to the mess hall amid the herd of groaning staff dragging their feet and occasionally bumping into things in their zombie-like, half-awake shamble. As you enter the mess hall, you notice less security staff than usual, possibly due to Arikawa's visit yesterday. He may have noticed how little most of them actually did and made steps to fix that, which will most likely put them in an even worse mood than usual.

You have your food and coffee ready, now you just need a place to sit. You see a few of the usual places, as well as a bit of a surprise; Babsy and Snowglobe have a table to themselves, which is earning a few wary side-glances from various people nearby. Where to?

You wave over to Babsy and Snowglobe, receiving a return wave from Babsy and a pale bald man ignoring you for his eggs. You make your way over, squeezing past several people to place your tray on the table and take a seat.
"Good morning, doctor." Babsy says in a somewhat sleepy tone as her mechanical arms butter a bit of toast. "Morning." You manage to burble out, still not all there. "Don't see you out here much, what's the occasion?" You take a sip of coffee and enjoy the warming sensation as it trickles down your throat.
"We usually wake up a little earlier than others." Babsy begins, taking a bite of her toast. "But we all sort of stayed up late last night discussing the...ah...issue from yesterday..." She speaks in a hushed tone, obviously unnerved by the prospect of bringing it up in public. "Mouse and the Bobs barely got any sleep, but Snowglobe and I ended up sleeping in a bit. We're all a little worried about this, but in a surprising bit of selflessness, Mouse actually assured us she would protect us and our jobs at the cost of hers if need be. I was impressed to say the least."
Snowglobe downs his orange juice rather quickly, his food finished, gathers his tray and leaves without a word, not even offering a nod or so much as eye-contact. Considering what happened the last time you were alone with him, you think you prefer it this way.
"Sorry..." Babsy says after he leaves. "He's not much for conversation. We don't think he's rude, just not great at socializing. He does wonderful work, but that's about all we know about him. The introverted type, to be sure."

After a small, uncomfortable silence, you decide to break the tension with idle chatter, only to realize you're alone with the pretty girl, a situation you often dreaded being in throughout high school. You decide to just talk about the first thing that comes to mind and hope it's not completely stupid.
"So, uh, Babsy..." You stammer out. "What's you...uh, favorite.......stuff?" You idiot.

"Stuff?" Babsy asks, a puzzled look on her soft features making the feeling of asking quite possibly the dumbest question ever uttered even worse. "Like, hobbies?"
You nod, laughing nervously. "Yeah! That's what I meant! Do you have any hobbies or anything?"
She laughs softly. "Someone's still not quite awake, I see. Well, when I was growing up, I was the eldest of a large family. I have 8 brothers and sisters, which I had to help raise due to my parents being busy with work often. I never really had much time for hobbies. I suppose engineering and robotics were my hobbies, which is why I I'm here. I did learn piano at a young age at my parents' behest, but haven't played in some time. I've been thinking about getting back into it once everything here is finished. Not to mention get some traveling in."

You spend a few blissful minutes discussing interests and experiences with Babsy, genuinely enjoying every moment. However, your PDA pings to notify you that you're late for Pandora's lesson. Quickly you thank Babsy for her time and she wishes you a good day, with you blurting out a "y-you, too!" as you hurry off.

You arrive at the door to Pandora's room, Grace waiting patiently with a large briefcase full of materials in her arms. She greets you and you both enter, finding Pandora absolutely glued to a documentary on timber wolves on TV. She hasn't even noticed you enter.

You leave her to show and head into her charging room, Grace staying at the table to set up all her materials quietly. There you find the small journal left neatly on her cradle. You open it and check the latest entry, reading it carefully.

I had a dream about dogs this time! Most of them were little yappy ones, which were fun to pet, but some were big and fluffy! Some of them played with me, but the other ones were all having fun with each other. That's okay, though! I even came up with names for them in case I ever get to meet them outside my dreams! Lucky, Jumpy, Happy, Rolly and Smiley! Lucky is my favorite, I think. He was a big tough wolf that kept me safe from the bad man! Every time I thought he'd come back, he would bark and scare him away! Real dogs would be better, though... Especially a real Lucky to keep me safe at night.

Her sentence structure could use some work, but otherwise no more "bad man". That's good. You feel relieved.

You briefly mull over the idea of sneaking up on Pandora for a surprise hug, but then remember previous mishaps and decide against it. You instead opt for the more direct approach, stepping out into her room and calling for her. It takes a few tries, but eventually she snaps out of it and notices you, getting up and hurrying over to greet you with a hug.
"Hello, doctor!" She says, burying her face into your chest as she embraces you, you reciprocating happily. Grace smiles at you both, but opts to stay put. She still seems a little put off by what happened before. Pandora, however, thinks differently and hurries over to Grace, offering her a tight hug as well. Grace is rather moved by this, a look of serene bliss on her face.

The wolf documentary is still on TV and you realize this could actually be fairly educational to her. It might be nice to watch it with her for a while, though it would eat into the actual lesson time.

You decide to get comfy with Pandora and watch the rest of the show with her. You sit down next to her, to her delight, and she begins prattling off various facts she's learned about wolves from the show, most of which rather trivial and common knowledge, but still nice to see she's enjoying learning. Grace joins you both, understanding the importance of this gesture, as well as smiling at how excited Pandora gets when she finds out something new.

Once the show ends, you finally get to begin the lesson, though Pandora seems a little amped up from the program, she eventually sits down with you, though obviously impatient. You have a feeling the lesson might be a little tricky this time, but you assure yourself you'll work it out.

Despite your best efforts, you cannot keep Pandora's attention for very long. Any time she is supposed to take notes, she instead ends up doodling dogs or trailing off entirely. It's pretty obvious this session is going nowhere. You sigh, unsure of what to do.
"When I was a kid," Grace speaks up after a short while. "If I couldn't focus, my parents would have me go outside to play and burn off my energy. Maybe Pandora is the same way? She might just need to get it out of her system first?" She makes a good point, though you're not entirely convinced. That works on kids, but kids aren't powered by electricity. Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to try, would it?

You decide something fun and involved might help burn off a little of Pandora's steam, so you head into the closet and pick out a small, soft, plush ball. It's light enough to not really be able to cause any real damage, but still has enough substance to make a good throwing object. You show Pandora and explain the simple rules of "catch", hoping the easyness of the game coupled with activity will get her mind off the wolf stuff and help her focus a little more. You make sure to play a little further away from the table.

A friendly game of catch seems just what the doctor (you) ordered. She seems to get the concept pretty much instantly, what with it's one rule; catch the ball. After a while, Pandora has calmed down considerably. You don't know what it is about playing catch with father-figure types, but the whole thing is just kind of universally "zen". No more hoping around, no more yammering about dogs, no more hyperactivity. Just you, her, and the ball.
In the middle of your game, you get a ping on your PDA, though you didn't want to ruin the momentum and stop to check it, so you wait until you're finished. It could be important, but honestly you'd rather not ruin your day with unnecessary stress.

The teaching session goes off without a hitch this time, the lack of a distraction working wonders for her attention. You realize now that you're doing this entirely on an "honor" system, with no real pro or con to her doing or not doing the work. You think setting up a reward/punishment system might be helpful, though you're not exactly sure how you could reward or punish an android. You can't exactly send her to bed without any supper or buy her ice cream for straight A's. Maybe Babsy might know of something. Or at the very least you could find some tips online.

With the lesson completed, Grace thanks you for the opportunity to assist and gives Pandora a farewell hug, leaving you two alone. You're not sure what to do next, as the weekend is basically several "free days" to allow Pandora time to relax and enjoy herself without getting overloaded with work, so you don't have to worry about tomorrow. Pandora still has a decent amount of battery life left, even after playing and running around etc. What should you do?
