The planet below you burns.

Large swathes of the continents alight with flames as your ships float silently above. The locals knew your fleet approached and set fire to their very own planet in an effort to drive you off.

Their motley picket fleet stood no chance against your Tombships or the boarding parties of swarming Talons and Trolls. Already their survivors and dead were being lead one by one to the Cauldrons to be remade and turned against their former world. Necrolytes, living servants of the Undying Court, sing side-by-side with the chitin choir singing the hymns of the Wormstar, their combined voices echoing with in the halls of every ship.

Standing at the prow of your flagship of stone and chitin, The Mausoleum, you grip the twisting metal of your spear, the spear forged in the very fires of the Wormstar. There is a glimmer of twisting light kilometers away and the first of the Alliance frigates shimmer into being and fire their first volleys at your fleet.

Tombships implode around you as the first salvo impacts, sparks of light exploding around your ship as their attacks impact the shield surrounding it.

Hefting your spear as it crackles with sickly green energy, bolts of necrotic power arcing across your ships armor harmlessly as you cock back your arm then fling the weapon with your supernatural might.

It cracks across the upper atmosphere of the world and you watch as seconds later the largest of the Alliance frigates shatters then explodes. With a warping of the light and space your spear is once again in your hand and you prepare for another throw as your fleet unleashes their own salvos against the opposing fleet.

Your power is a scourge, a plague upon the living of this galaxy and they will know your might.

They will either join you willingly in life, or they will serve you for eternity in death.

"Um, excuse me, Lord Jadyk?" you hear the voice of Jor, snapping you out of your reverie of times past.

You look at him from where you sat atop your hovering throne, undead cliff-jumpers pawing at the short grass but unable to remember that they once ate it, "Yes, Jor?" The sun was just creeping up from beyond the distant mountains but still leaving you in shadows.

"The Colony is getting suspicious. They want to know if they should send more people to dig out the ones I said were trapped in the mines. They want to send more people," he glances at the Voidsinger meditating silently by the sensor tower and radio, "They say the Osjiic at the base are getting more impatient and violent with the colonists too. They're upset about the Pirates,"

You wave your hand dismissively as you look through the eye of a Gargoyle perched on the mountain overlooking the canyon base of the Dagger Pirates. You glance to Jor looking up at you expectantly, "Tell them they can send more people if they want but you know they will not be able to return home. You know this, don't you Jor?"

He gulps and is silent for several minutes before nodding, "I'll uh, tell them to send another group. We could always use the," he pauses and glances at a passing Talon, "Manpower..."

Jor needs some buddies. Lets spare a lady friend for him.
>>
>>43130262
Nodding in satisfaction Jor moves off to radio back to the colony. You were impressed with his initiative and progress. There was only a hint of regret at what he was about to do to his former friends.

Turning your attention back to the Dagger base you watch as a group heads out on hoverbikes for dawn patrol. They were well fortified and knew they had enemies on this planet but you believe they only knew of the Osjiic threat.

The Osjiic continued to radio in, believing the story the Voidsinger had been spinning for them. By his counts only eighteen of them remained not under your control. Those at the colony and a third base in the distant mountains across the valley.

You wonder just how you'll deal with these groups, fingertips with regrowing chitin tapping together. You briefly can feel the Cauldron churning and yearning for more biomass. It was always hungry.

How shall you proceed?

This other Osjiic base was an unknown factor and you did not like not knowing their strength or location.

Leaving a single Gargoyle to keep watch over the Dagger base you send three of your others sailing across the sky in the vague direction you were able to pry from the Voidsinger and the Osjiic officer.

As they search you hear the rumble of the hungry Cauldron once more and you wave a hand. Moments later Talons and several of your Cyclopes leap from the cliffs and tear away to hunt. Seated in your hovering throne you watch through your soldiers as they scour the mountains and valleys.

In time they start to come back, dragging corpses of cliff-jumpers that had yet to migrate away. They do manage to bring you several still stubbornly clinging to life and you drain them before they are taken away. Even your Cyclops help, shooting raptorsnakes out of the air and crippling cliff-jumpers from far off.

You Gargoyles shiver as they feel a pulse of faint energy and they home in on the source, following the scanning waves.

There is a sudden crack of gunfire and your Gargoyle has to bank and roll to avoid several slugs from an Osjiic rifle. It flees the area and you realize one of its wings had been grazed.

The injured Gargoyle turns back for home but the other two dive low to avoid the scanning sensor and finally land, one on top of a peak and the other nestled in a crack in a cliff wall. Below they spy a camp similar to the other one you wiped out but this one had walls of plasteel lifted up around their tents and the bulky tower with the rotating dish.

The Voidsinger had said they had a stronger sensor and you watch a pair of soldiers examining the console. Your Gargoyles manage to count seven of them at the outpost, a single scaffolding tower with another turret standing tall over the camp where an Osjiic trooper scanned the area with the scope of his rifle, most likely the one who took potshots at your scout.

As you plot out your plans for your alien neighbors Jor hurries outside and bows his head as you glance at him, "The shuttle is on it's way with the other miners. They're sending six I believe. I uh, would suggest you and your soldiers hide as they land,"

You nod in agreement, "Very well. Thank you for the suggestion Jor. You are doing quite well," your troops either head out further into the hills or disappear into the mine. Your Throne turns and is dragged inside as Jor walks alongside you, "Keep up the good work and you may yet keep your mind when you join me in undeath."

He stops by the shutterdoor as your drift into the darkness of the tunnel with your troops. You feel his emotions roil at your words, pride, fear, minor disgust and to you amusement, hope. You suspect he will make a fine Necrolyte in the future.

The Osjiic minions stay above ground and watch as the an automated shuttle floats through the air and slowly lands next to the other shuttle. Jor steps out to greet the six colonists, four humans and a pair of vorh. They give the Osjiic uneasy looks but they speak with Jor, expressing their grief at the loss of the miners.

Jor nods and you feel him try to put up a facade of mourning and he motions them to follow inside where the other two miners worked on drones. The new miners carried boxes of tools but once they step inside they look around in surprise, spotting the turretskiff sitting idle just inside.

The two Osjiic step inside, each carrying a drum-repeater as the shutter clatters behind them, startling the miners. Jor just shakes his head, "I'm sorry...I hope you'll understand. Just obey and you'll live."

A female human starts to shout at him but her voice trails off as you emerge from the shadows of the tunnel flanked and surrounded by Talons and Stingers. The claws of the Talons glow orange as they hiss, the miners clustering together.

What shall you do with these six?

You pat Jor on the shoulder as you pass him by and approach the still living as your Talons surround them. The osjiic officer you can feel his disgust but he does nothing to help them. You could tell the Voidsinger cared not what happened to them and stood there, awaiting your will.

Chitin spear in hand you look down at them and clack your jaw before speaking, "I would hate to make my friend Jor a liar. Obey me and you shall keep your lives for now," they tense and you pat the air to quiet their murmuring, "If anyone would like to go back," you don't finish, instead motioning to the door where the Osjiic step aside.

They glance at each other and a pair of humans and a vorh turn toward the door. Your spear lashes out, between two of the humans standing still and poke another in the small of their back. There is a soft gasp and they collapse, their form withered.

The group scatters but you move with speed that startles them, spearing the other human through the middle as they rushed for the door and lifting the vorh by the throat into the air. They collapse as well and you turn to the other three huddling together surrounded by hissing Talons.

You snap off three shards of your armor, the pieces hovering over your palm as the power is inscribed into them, "Do you accept my terms?" you ask and they nod, knowing they had no choice.

Soon Jor and the other miners are helping the two humans and vorh lay down in the resting area, the flesh and exoskeleton where the shards buried themselves still fresh and raw. The other miners shoot accusing glares at Jor and he ignores them beyond, "I do what I have to to keep us alive,"

With your new minions resting you call forth your Osjiic zombie. They stump over and you have the Commander draw up notes detailing the location and strengths of the Osjiic forces. They glare at you under their helm and you pat their shoulder as they forge the notes on the plastic rolls the Osjiic used.

Your Zombie picks up one of the Osjiic Heavy Rifle along with the missile launcher and the remaining two missiles. Jumping into the turretskiff that a single Stinger pilots they head out into the sunset.

As they travel you speak to your Voidsinger. Void energy ripples across their large form as you hear the first ever chuckle from the large alien and they nod. Moving to the radio they send messages to the colony base and the last outpost.

Your Osjiic zombie hops off the skiff that turns to return to base and hoofs it across the cliffs, lugging the weapons untiring. Your Gargoyle watches from its small nest hidden among a distant cliff as the zombie loads the missile launcher but sets it aside. Instead it lifts the rifle and switches to a long-ranged scope and lays down.

The rifle cracks out several shots and soon the base is blaring alarms as the Osjiic snipes at the base. You watch through the zombie and Gargoyle as the base comes alive, several pirates dropping as they're struck.

Your zombie then stands, hefting the missile launcher and fires. The explosive streaks out and sails over the base to strike the large fuel tanks of the refueling depot. Your zombie can feel the wave of heat as the depot goes up in a ball of fire, destroying a nearby dropship and many of their hoverbikes.

The zombie loads the second missile and aims at the armored carrier but just as they fire they are struck by several long-range rounds, shattering the helm and chest armor. The missile streaks through the air and manages to score a glancing blow against the back of the carrier, the explosion warping the back end and it drops to the ground, no longer floating.

Your Gargoyle watches as the Daggers locate the body of the sniper, seeming not to notice the withered and decayed state with how thoroughly they'd riddle it with bullets and blasterfire.

They loot the body and you watch from a distance as a Netu commander looks at the forged notes. It barks out orders to the others and twirls its finger in the air.

Soon you watch as a dropship is loaded up and takes off towards the north, flying below the mountain ranges to avoid the colonys AA as they circle around it.

Your Voidsinger turns to you and says the report of the Pirates base has been transmitted. He says the commander at the colony is pleased with their scouting efforts.

Chuckling softly you sit back in your throne and watch through the eyes of your Gargoyles.

Before the night is through you watch as the Dagger dropship blazes past the outpost, too fast and low for the sensor to report them soon enough. They blanket the area in bullet and plasma-fire as they zoom past, lighting tents on fire and knocking over the gunner tower and sensor towers.

The dropship doesn't wait to relish their attack, speeding away to head back to base after the retaliatory strike.

You clack your fingertips together and nod in satisfaction. That went about as well as you thought.
>>
>>43132592
Your Gargoyles stationed throughout the mountains report the aftermath of the attacks.

The pirate base appears quite damaged from your missile attacks, the fueling depot destroyed along with one of the three dropships. Their armored hovercarrier appeared out of commission with several people working at repairing it. Their remaining hoverbikes are out on emergency patrols scouring the area for anymore Osjiic snipers. From a distance you can't be sure of their numbers but you watched them carry the wounded and assumed dead into the buildings. There were quite a few they carried inside that didn't emerge. You hope they don't cremate their dead.

The Osjiic outpost was in tatters, the two towers crumpled and a wall knocked down. Fires have been extinguished and you see that only two of the troopers were killed, the one on the gun tower and another crushed under the falling tower. Their dead they lay in a ditch, their weapons and armor salvaged.

The radio in your base squawks, warning you that there had been a pirate raid, likely in retaliation for shooting down their other dropship. They say to keep safe and hide in the mine to avoid bombing. Your Voidsinger replies in affirmative.

Give me your plans for your attack. This will be the biggest fight yet if you go straight for the base.

Then the outposts slowly letting the lights go out one by one.

We should send some troops to capture the dropships, keeping them there but camping our melee troops in.

And then a heavy shield wall march supported by harassment from above.

All in the dead of night.
All under cover of smoke.
All with the screams of the living.

With the damage inflicted to the pirate base you knew you needed to act fast. The Osjiic command at the colony knew of their location but did not have the numbers to launch an attack themselves. At least you hoped they played it safe.

You step from your Throne as the mine comes alive with your undead troops filing out into the darkness. Cyclops and Gargoyles take off first, bounding over stone and flying fast.

Your human and vorh minions stay behind but you have the Osjiic and Netu load up in the transports with your troops, only leaving a handful of Stingers behind as you race along rocky cliffs in the light of the two moons.

The Gargoyles watch a pair of hoverbikes glide along a dirt path, lights shining in front of them as one of the riders, a human holds a handheld scanner looking for signs of heat. There is a hiss of air and they don't notice their partner shot off their bike until it drifts into them and sends them into a spin. They hardly have time to regain control of their bike before they are tackled off it by a leaping Talon.

Another patrol along the canyon passes under a natural stone bridge, the two netu shouting in alarm as several Talons drop down onto them, dragging them from their seats.

Cyclops wait patiently and line up their shots and a trio of bikes go carreening away and crash after each of their riders were sniped from the backs of them.

A pair of Trolls step in front of another patrol and duck behind their shields as they open up with their weapons. Two more riders riddled with bullet and bone, the trolls nimbly sidestepping the out of control vehicles.

Your Gargoyles watch the base as you grab a Netu by their armored neck and drag them over to their crashed bike. They make a grab for the radio and you allow them to shout in terror over the device about "a monster" before their voice chokes as you drain the life from them.

At that moment your Cyclops scattered around the base fire their Spine Casters, lights throughout the base shattering one after another until most of the base was reduced to flashing emergency lights and darkness.

You watch the two outposts above the cliffs scanning the darkness with what looked like powerful rifles but they each suddenly become enshrouded in billowing black smoke dropped by Gargoyles. Talons lope on all fours across the grass and leap through the glass to butcher the snipers within and shatter the powerful searchlights.

With the base entering a panic you could hear echo through the mountains you call forth the two Netu. You spin on them and jut a finger at the pair, "You will take those dropships for me. Go, now," you say before they can protest.

They are lead away by the group of Talons you had given necroflensers and under cover of darkness they dash along the top of the canyon walls. Several pirates had tried to climb above only to be shot down by the dead-eyed aim of the Cyclops.

The cluster of Talons arrive at the outposts where several Talon sat and ate the corpses of the lookouts, passing by them to crowd into the lift. As they descend into the base proper they see that most of the bases population had gone into hiding in the buildings and basements below to avoid the firing of the snipers.

Pale smooth grenades drop likes eggs from the high-flying Gargoyles, cracking open in an explosion of smoke that quickly fills a large area of the base.

The group of Talons and Netu file out of the elevator and into the smoke, dashing across the base and leaping over charred and bone-impaled corpses at the directions of the two former Daggers. A doorway swings open and an Osjiic steps out with a large bore gun in their hands. They never got a chance to fire as the Talons turn as one, leveling their arms and firing their necroflensers. Bolts of sickly green energy leap out and you watch through the horrified eyes of the Netu as the aliens helm and face boil and melt before it even had a chance to collapse.

Bolts of green energy and dimly glowly claws silence a group of humans and vorh rushing from building to building and before long they arrive at the edge of the landing platforms. The fires of the fueling plant still smolder along with the smoking ruin of the destroyed dropship.

You feel the alarm of the two Netu as they spy a group of pirates rushing across the open tarmac towards the dropships, the former pirates recognizing the pilots. They glance at the Talons, wondering why they didn't rush out to slaughter them.

Their answer came as they catch a glimmer of moonlight catch off several falling items before they explode in the midst of the running group, sending them flying in bits in all directions. Your Gargoyles flap their wings hard to fly away quickly after launching their explosive grenades at the pirates.

The Talons tug at the Netu minions now as they rush for the dropships, avoiding the smoking craters where once former allies had stood. Talons circle the ships and search for anyone trying a second attempt at securing the dropships as the Netu split up and each take one of the ships. Thankfully empty they quickly take the pilots seat of each ship but they find themselves hesitating as they reached for the controls, awaiting your command.

Your Talons that accompanied the Netu stash themselves away within the dropships and wait just in case another group attempted to flee. A pair do move out into the darkness to the walls and start to climb up, glowing claws sinking into the plasteel.

You motion to your troops and your forces move forth. Both transport meander at a leisurely pace as you stand on the nose of one with spear and shield in hand, Stingers and Trolls riding in the transports as the Osjiic pilot the hovercraft. Talons swarm around the transport as you approach the main gates.

They slowly grate open and you glance up, your two Talons standing in the control room, tossing a vorh who valiantly tried to jam the gates over the side. Your troops march in without conflict and you gesture to the buildings you could sense the most life energy within.

The Trolls and Stingers hop from the transports as you float down to the ground, the heavy soldiers stomping across the concrete. Your Trolls hardly slow down as they slam their shoulders into the doors and knock them from their hinges. Gunfire already meets them but you watch as your reconstructed army floods inside hiding behind their shields. Stingers aiming around the shields to snap weapons or even victims and reeling them back to be dragged out by snarling Talons.

Talons climb up the walls and burst in through the window, seeking out sources of power and chewing or clawing through them to plunge the buildings into darkness. Scream and gunfire ring out in the night and you turn your rictus grin to the stars above.

This was only the beginning of the new hymn, written by your own hand. That ever-present whisper that you can feel gnawing in your skull seems to grow still at the sounds of dismay, terror and violence as if satiated for the first time in centuries.

The Choirs of the Wormstar will have a new chapter to sing once you reform them.

You almost lose track of time as you sway side to side, your Trolls and Stingers marching steadily down hallways firing around their shields and dragging down the unlucky. Talons swarm from building to building, searching for and dragging out those unlucky few who thought to hide. Another group tried again for the ships only to be felled by Talons leaping from the shadows.

Finally you are snapped back to full awareness by shouts from within. Your troops had closed in on the infirmary where they'd made their last stand with the injured. Through the gaze of your soldiers you see an elaborately armored Netu shouting around an upturned table, shouting that they surrender and to let them live.

Barking out a laugh that echoes through the ranks of undead, hearing several of the still living crying out in terror at the sound. Your voice booms from numerous of your soldiers at once, a wall of shields shifting and pulsing as if a single living breathing beast,

"There is no surrender, only servitude. Through life or death you shall all serve the Wormstar. Give up your weapons and your injured and dead. Bring forth your leaders," your voice echoes from the undead and you hear the living crying and shouting.

Your patience starts to wane and you almost send your troops surging in when they call out they were giving up. Weapons tossed to the center of the room and Talons dash forward to drag them off. The survivors walk out with their hands raised or supporting limping injured.

You have the survivors collected before you, a motley collection for sure. Netu, humans, vorh, a pair of Osjiic and even another kesh all kneel before you, surrounded by Stingers and Talons. Flanked by two trolls you look down at the collection even as the injured and dead are gathered together. The injured for your eventual draining and the dead for transport.

"Who here know who or what I am?" you look over the silent survivors and a netu lifts their head

"You are undead, like the stories say... Wormstar," they murmur and bow their head.

"You are correct. I am Jadyk of the Wormstar. You will all serve me one way or another. Through enslavement, reanimation or willingly. You may keep your lives if you are of value or if you pledge your life to me," A Talon drags a human cradling a stomach wound over to you and you casually drain the life from the man before dropping the withered form at your feet.

They stare at the corpse before several start shouting over each other. Among them they had the Commander, two netu pilots, a vorh engineer, and an Osjiic weapons crafter. The others say they will serve, saying they know how to tend to ships and maintain equipment.

Your bracer is sundered and the parts inscribed, floating between your hands. They are each dragged forth and you either embed a shard into their flesh or you drain them in turn.

Your soldiers scour through the base, dragging out what they think could be of importance or piling up pieces of charred scrap metal. You wonder if the missile to the fuel silos was a good idea but you know without that attack it would've gone much differently for your attack.

Gained:
>Armory: Carbines, blasters, thermal blades, sniper rifles, grenades, body armor for several species
>2 Dropships
>9 hoverbikes (5 damaged)
>1 APC (Damaged)
>Orbital communications array
>4 canisters of unexploded fuel
>Scrap metal galore: 60M
>Corpses: 115B
>2 portable Fusion cores (used to run the base)

You look around the captured base and wonder just what to do with it next. It was decently fortified and hidden in the canyons. The Osjiic knew of this location because of your hasty attempt to turn them against each other but knew they didn't have the manpower to take the base at the moment.

What shall you do now?

As you await your newly enslaved to awaken you speak through the Stingers left behind at the Mine, telling a very startled Jor and group of miners that they were to keep up their tasks of mining.

Your search of the base revealed they had started digging and expanding their basements, seemingly with the hope of moving most of their operations underground. Satisfied with the location of a rather large room you reach your will through your creations and enslaved minions.

The Osjiic Commander climbs into one of the dropships, scowling at the netu commander piloting it who gives him just as baleful a look. They silently cooperate at your prodding and they take off, heading for the mining base.

Turning your attention to your latest minions you impress upon them the importance of getting their vehicles and base repaired. They nod and are quick to hop to it but several suffered injuries that slow them down but their fear is a great motivator. It would take some time before they were done and you leave them to it.

Your troops spread through the base, securing it and tending to what repairs they could manage on their own. Back at the mining base your undead soldiers take great care in capping the Cauldron and digging it from its foundation in the mine. Glad you hadn't made it any larger it barely fits through the large rolling shutter, the insides sloshing noisily.

The Osjiic stays behind with a detachment of several Stingers, a pair of Cyclops, and a Troll as the Netu slowly and carefully transports the Cauldron and your hoverthrone with its undead steeds to your new base. Temporary hoverpads used for transporting large objects are slapped onto the Cauldron and lead down underground.

Already your soldiers were digging up an even larger pit for the cauldron, carving the sigils and runes for the creation into stone and metal. It takes you quite some time but you crack open the Cauldron's lid to sample it's fluids and ingrained knowledge, transferring a portion of its power to the new Cauldron nearly twice it's size.

Chemicals salvaged from across the pirates base are poured into the churning liquid and the corpses are brought in and dumped, feeding the new hunger of the Cauldron. You could feel the fledgling intelligence brewing inside as it devoured and reshaped more and more to your will. You have the two hoverbike scouts you'd taken captive and push the screaming soldiers into the hungry abyss.

You remember the Cauldrons of your former fleet, their cold intelligences helping control your massive armies while linked to your will. Each Tombship containing one while your Mausoleum held the largest and most potent. You feel the new Cauldron reach out blindly and you reply with your will, binding it to you.

Another memory surfaces of a minor rival in the Armada once attempted a coup by taking over the Cauldrons and turning it to her will only for the Cauldron minds to rise up against her and consume her for her folly, their loyalty forever yours.

Now with two Cauldrons you feel your time bound to this planet may be becoming shorter.

The Netu loads up the Cauldron once more and transports it back along with the majority of your troops. You turn to the newest Cauldron and dip your hands inside. With so many corpses at your disposal you chuckle at the possibilities.
