You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After returning to the White Watchtower, you were informed by Knight-Captain Laurentius that you and the others would be heading to Iseria's capital to discuss Iseria's support for the crusades. After, you decided to visit Anna's village, where you learned that a survivor from the Forsaken Lands had recently stumbled up to the village, covered in wounds and carrying a sinister looking axe. After dealing with the survivor and his axe, you returned to the watchtower and went to sleep, where you were visited once again by Zaphiel and his unknown companion. They left you with a warning that the demons were plotting something at the capital, exactly what you don't know. After leaving you with this warning, you woke up and began preparing for the long journey to the capital.

You, Captain Laurentius, and the honor guard (minus Geoffrey and Celia) arrive at Iseria's capital city a day before the council meeting is scheduled to begin. The trip was long and seemed much quieter than usual. Perhaps you've just grown used to traveling with the large band of escorts you'd accumulated during your trip through the other kingdoms, but some of your companions definitely seem quieter than usual.

Laurentius does not speak often unless it's to give an order. To your surprise, he seems relatively unbothered by the long periods of time spent on horseback. Considering his age, you thought you would have to stop and rest pretty often, but Laurentius seemed fine through the entire trip. In fact, if it weren't for the grey hair and wrinkles you'd have thought he was actually much younger than he really is.

Erika is also very quiet during the trip, unusually so in fact. You haven't even heard one complaint from her about how unfilling the rations are or how tiring it is to ride a horse all day, two complaints which you heard almost constantly while traveling through Galloway and Belmore. In addition, she's been wearing a helmet ever since Laurentius mentioned the capital should be getting close. You didn't even know she owned a helmet, so you asked her about it. Apparently she thinks wearing it is uncomfortable, so she doesn't usually wear it, though since she's heading to the capital she brought it to help hide her identity. You tried telling her that wasn't necessary, but she wouldn't budge. Seems she's really nervous about running into her father again.

The stone walls surrounding the capital come into view soon enough. The armed guards on top of the wall observe your group as you approach the city wordlessly, while the pair guarding the city gate approach Laurentius and begin talking. In addition to the guards, you see siege weaponry of all sorts lying at the ready atop the wall, ready to defend the city against all possible assailants. On the east side of the city, a river flows from the ocean into the city, barred by a massive iron gate. A boat waits outside the gate, and you see a large collection of guards searching the boat before the iron gate opens and the boat is allowed to enter the city's port.

Finally, the guards allow you to enter the city. The streets are abuzz with activity, sounds of conversation mixing with the sound of merchants loudly advertising their wares. A bell tolls twelve times in the distance, signaling that the current time is noon. A massive stone palace can be seen in the center of town, standing above the rest of the city in a position where it can be seen from just about anywhere within the city.

“I'll go ahead and make sure the palace is ready to receive us.” Laurentius announces to the group while the guards take care of your horses. “You're free to come along if you wish, but now may be a good time to stretch your legs, eat, enjoy yourselves while you still can. Those of you not coming with me, we'll meet at the palace gates at five.”
>>
>>43109703
Having made his announcement, Laurentius begins walking towards the palace. Roland, who's been excited to see the capital since you left the watchtower, immediately groups up with Reinhardt, the only person besides Laurentius that's been to the capital before, and asks to be given a tour. Joan plans to check the local shops, and Justine decides to accompany her. Ganelon heads in the direction you heard bells ringing, saying he wants to visit the city's cathedral. Nerillian heads off on his own, stating he's heading for the guard barracks to visit someone. Erika, not knowing what to do, stands around for a while before finally deciding to catch up to Joan and Justine.

No one really knows. No one that's gone past the western isles has ever returned. Some people think that at a certain point the world just falls off into the Void, so there hasn't been a lot of exploration past the isles yet.

I really need to finish that world primer already.

You think about joining Roland and Reinhardt, but truth be told you're still a bit worried about Erika, so you decide to tag along with them.

The shopping district is by far the most busy part of the city. Ships unload their goods at port, and merchants advertise their wares loudly, trying to be heard over the competition. Despite the fact you're still wearing the White Watchtower's heraldry, nobody seems to notice you. Not surprising, you imagine the tower has sent delegates here quite often while you were away.

The first store you visit is a magic shop, selling all sorts of arcane trinkets and components. Truth be told you have no idea what half the stuff in here is, though Joan seems to know exactly what she's looking for. She buys a few containers of some rather weird looking components, asks the storekeeper about something called "Ignis Salt", and then you leave.

"What exactly is all this stuff for?" You ask, eying the contents curiously.

"Just an experiment I've been working on." Berry translates for Joan. "Hopefully this time everything will work out."

Once you leave the store, everyone discusses where to go next. Joan suggests looking for a bookstore, while Erika finally suggests grabbing something to eat. Justine says she has nowhere in particular she wants to go, so the decision comes to you.

Damn, you've discovered my clever ruse! I'll get you next time anonymous!

In all honesty, it just slipped my mind for some reason. There are water demons, yes, though typically they don't stray far from the Forsaken Lands. Cults typically refers to groups of humans that, for some reason, work for the demons though. Unless said humans learned how to grow gills, there are no underwater cults, no.

"I could go for something to eat, honestly." You admit. "Let's go look for a tavern, after that we'll look for bookstores."

With everyone in agreement, you all start looking for places to eat. The city is very large though, and none of you have any idea where you're going, so you spend a considerable amount of time wandering aimlessly.

While searching for a tavern, you see a large crowd of people start to gather on the sides of the main street. You can't see past them, but it seems something important is happening over there.

>Go check it out, see what the commotion's all about.

"What do you think all the commotion's about?" You ask.

"No idea. Maybe street performers?" Berry says on Joan's behalf.

"Maybe. Let's go see." You suggest, leading the others into the crowd.

Once you've managed to push your way to a position where you can see, you get a good look at what's going on. A large caravan seems to be passing down the street. A well-dressed man stand at the center of it, riding a brown horse. His head is held high, and his posture gives off an aura of dignity. Around him are several armed soldiers, some mounted some on foot. They proceed forward at a leisurely pace, towards the palace.

"Who is that?" You ask someone standing next to you.

"That's Lord Bernadotte, one of the king's Councilmen." He says in a hushed tone.

Councilmen? That explains it then. The Iserian Council is a collection of the most influential men in the kingdom, it makes sense his arrival would draw a crowd. His name, Lord Bernadotte, sounds oddly familiar though. Relization hits you after a moment, and you start looking around for Erika.

Erika stands closeby, staring at the councilman. Her helmet hides her face, but you can see she's staring directly at him. You see her start to take a small step back out of the crowd, when the caravan suddenly comes to a halt.
>>
>>43112250
"You there." The councilman says, looking in your general direction.

The sudden attention catches you off guard. At first you think he's referring to one of his guards, until you notice everyone in the crowd is now looking at you.

"Me?" You ask.

"And your companions, yes." He confirms.

The crowd begins to shift away from you, leaving you, Erika, Justine, and Joan standing alone.

"By your heraldry, you're all from the White Watchtower, correct?” He continues. “I take it then that you came here with Captain Laurentius for the council meeting then, is that correct?”

>”Yes, Lord Bernadotte. I am Siegfried Schmidt, the current Champion, and these three are part of my Honor Guard.”
>”Yes sir, that's correct.”

"I see. I think I'll need to speak to him when I see him then. And what of the Champion? Where is he currently?"

"He's...looking around the city right now, sir." You respond, not lying but not telling him it's you. For some reason, you think announcing that in front of a large group of people would be a bad idea.

"Is that so? Well then, if you should see him tell I wish to speak with him and the good captain as soon as he's able. We really should discuss the situation before the meetings begin proper."

"I'll pass the message along, sir."

"Good. Then I'll be off, see that the Champion is told post-haste."

With that, the caravan continues on and your group leaves the crowd behind.

"So what happens now?" Joan asks through Berry.

"What do you mean?"

"The councilman just asked to see you and the captain, aren't you going to start heading for the palace?"

You hadn't thought about that, actually. It sounded like Lore Bernadotte wanted to see you as soon as possible, but the meeting isn't until tomorrow. You could always go after you've had lunch with the others.

You consider going later, but decide against it. You're here for a reason after all, and it's not to eat with your friends.

"You're right, I should. If you guys find anything good to eat, save some for me if you can."

With that, you separate from the group, and start heading towards the palace.

-------
The palace, while not as extravagant as the one in Galloway, is certainly nothing to scoff at. A golden chandelier hangs overhead in the grand hall, and a marble staircase leads up to the second floor. After informing one of the palace guards about who you are and who you're searching for, you are brought in front of an oak door on the second floor.

"Lord Bernadotte and Knight-Captain Laurentius should be inside." The guard states, and you enter the door.

Sure enough, both Captain Laurentius and Lord Bernadotte are waiting inside. Both look up once the door opens, and the councilman raises an eyebrow.

"You again? Did I not ask you to find the Champion?"

"You did, that's why I'm here. My name is Siegfried Schmidt, I'm the current Champion."

Lord Bernadotte looks questioningly at Captain Laurentius, who nods in confirmation.

"I see. My apologies then, but why did you not say so earlier then?"

"I thought it was best not to announce who I was in front of a large crowd, sir."

"Ah. Yes, that does make sense. In that case, I thank you for coming here immediately. Please, take a seat."

You do as he says, taking a seat next to Laurentius. "So, what is it you wanted to discuss?" You ask.

"Well, as I said earlier I believe it would be best that we discuss the situation before the council meetings begin tomorrow. As I was just discussing with your captain, the council is currently split in favor of staying out of the crusade. Six council members are in favor, and seven are against, His Highness being the seventh."
>>
>>43114966
>They also wear black and get along better with Levi, but that's pretty much it.
>>
>>43115072
"They haven't voted yet, right?" You ask, suddenly nervous.

"No, not yet. The debate is still open currently, but right now the odds are against us. Hopefully you and your captain will be able to persuade some of the opposition to our side, but if not we will need a plan."

"What sort of plan?" You ask.

"If our opposition will not be swayed with words, then we must sway them with other things." Lord Bernadotte states.

"You're supposing we bribe them?" Laurentius asks.

"Not 'bribe', negotiate. Most of them do not want to join the crusade because they believe it will cost them resources and offer no gain. So, if we wish to convince them, we must give them something to gain."

'What more do they need to gain than safe borders, the return of their old lands?' Galadriel complains in your mind.

'They don't live by the border, why would they care how safe it is? The last crusades haven't taken back much land anyways, that doesn't exactly inspire confidence.' Leviathan argues.

"So what specifically are you suggesting?" Laurentius asks.

"Lord Kraemer's lands have recently opened a large iron mine. From what I've heard, he's currently looking into possible buyers for his iron now. Given the Watchtower's duties, I'm sure you could find use for all that iron."

"You're saying we should offer to buy his iron?" You ask.

"That's exactly what I'm saying. A crusade means there will be a demand for armor and weapons, which means there will be a demand for iron."

"In that case, why isn't he on our side already?"

"He probably would be, were it not for the fact someone's already offered to buy his iron. Lord Moeller must have reached the same conclusion we did, because my sources tell me he's offered to buy Kraemer's iron if he'll vote against us."

'To trade the lives of those mortals forced into Malaphas's farms for something as petty as gold. How disgusting.' Galadriel says angrily.
>>
>>43115095
"Then if Moeller's already offered to buy Kraemer's iron, we'll just have to make a better offer."

"Precisely. Unfortunately, I have my own expenses to consider, so I'm afraid most of this deal's cost will rely on you, captain."

Captain Laurentius crosses his arms. "Fine. Arrange a meeting between us sometime this evening if you can."

"I will do just that. Knowing Kraemer, he will likely ask for a small fee if we want to keep this deal a secret. I should be able to cover that much, at the least."

"Good. Any other ideas for convincing the opposition while we're at it then?" Laurentius asks.

"As of now, no. If I find something else though, I'll let both of you know immediately. In the meantime, keep your eyes open. Just as we plan to convince Kraemer to our side, they are likely plotting ways to sway our own supporters to their side as well."

"We'll both keep that in mind. Now, if that's all you need, I have other matters I should attend to now." Laurentius says, standing up from his chair.

"That is all I needed from you, yes. I do have one last comment for you though, Mr. Schmidt."

"What is it?"

"While you're here, be very careful what you say and to whom you say it. As Champion, our opposition will do everything they can to discredit you, so remember that everything you say could potentially be twisted against you. Make sure your honor guard is aware of this before the meetings start as well."

With that, Laurentius leaves and Lord Bernadotte follows shortly after. Personally, you're left wondering what the point of you being here was, considering most of what Lord Bernadotte said was to Laurentius. You shrug, and leave the room as well, wondering what you should do now.

Aleria's not here, no. The teleportation circle was only safe for people who've been to the destination before, so only you, the honor guard (minus Celia and Geoffrey), and the escorts from Iseria (Daniel, Logain, Galmar, etc.) were teleported to the White Watchtower. Aleria has been to the White Watchtower before (technically), but under her current disguise she shouldn't have ever been there before, so she stayed behind. Odds are she'll be back at some point though.

>>43115119
You remember Nerillian said he was going to visit someone at the guard barracks earlier. Truth be told, you don't really know much about Nerillian, so you decide this might be a good chance to learn more about him. With that in mind, you leave the palace and start looking for the guard barracks.

Of course, trying to find the barracks in a city this big is easier said than done. You search on your own for a while, but to no avail. Finally, you try asking people on the street for directions, but either they don't hear you or they choose to ignore you. Frustrated, you're about to just give up when someone finally approaches you.

"Excuse me, you said you were having trouble finding the guard barracks?" Someone asks you.

"Oh! Yeah, I've been trying to find it but I have no idea where it is." You admit, glad someone's finally listened to you.

"I understand, this city can be really hard to navigate. I can show you where it is, if you want." The stranger offers.

"Would you? I'd appreciate that, thanks."

Grateful for his help, you follow the kind stranger down the road, through some side streets, and up towards the north-west edge of the city. Finally, you follow him past another turn and find yourself in a dead-end alleyway. Warning bells start to go off in your head, and you start reaching for Galadriel, taking a step back.

'Siegfried, behind you.' Galadriel warns. You turn your head, and find five more men enter the alleyway, drawing swords and blocking your escape.

"Listen, before anyone does anything stupid, I've only got six gold on me right now anyways. Believe me, I'm not worth robbing." You tell them, hoping to talk them down.

"We're not after your gold." The stranger that brought you here states, before drawing a dagger from his sleeve.

There may be five of them, but really they're not all that intimidating. You've fought worse, that's for damn sure. In fact, you might actually be able to walk out of this one without fighting back.

Quickly, you mutter the incantation for Force Sphere. Before your assailants are even able to close in on you, the spell goes off and a large bubble of force materializes around you. One of your attackers bounces off the sphere, falling to the ground and grasping at his, swearing. With any sense of danger you originally felt effectively killed, you calmly start walking out of the alleyway while your assailants swords bounce futilely off your force sphere.

"The Void are you doing'?! Get back here and fight, ya fuckin' coward!" One of them yells angrily.

'Leviathan, do you think you could do something about them?' You ask.

'Already on it.' She states.

From the corner of your eye, you see a guard's head jerk upwards. A moment later, he drops his sword and holds his hands up to his mouth, like he's going to shout.

"THUGS! THUGS IN THE ALLEY!" The man suddenly shouts.

"The Void are you doing Franz?! Keep it down!"

"THUGS WITH SWORDS! ATTACKING IN THE ALLEYWAY!"

"You lost your fuckin' mind Franz?!"

A moment later, you hear the sound of people in armor running. At the alley's entrance, three armored guards arrive with swords drawn.

"What's going on here?" One of them asks.

"Fuck!"

One of the thugs drops his sword and starts trying to climb out of the alley. One of them, the thug controlled by Leviathan, grabs him and throws him back onto the ground, pinning him in place. Another realizes his situation and get down on the ground, tossing his sword aside. The last three instead rush towards the guards, apparently intending to fight their way out.

You draw Galadriel and shift her into a halberd. As the thugs run past, you swing low and trip the three of them, then while they're down you smack each of them in the head with the flat of the halberd's blade, knocking them out.

The guards move in, arresting all of the thugs. Once secured, Leviathan releases control of the thug the others called Franz. With her influence gone, he starts to thrash around, demanding to know what's going on. The guards ignore him, and bind his hands like the rest. With the thugs handled, you drop your shield and shift Galadriel back into a sword, sheathing her.

One of the guards, an elf woman with brown hair and a halberd, approaches you once the thugs are secured. "Are you alright citizen? What happened?"

"I'm fine. I followed one of these guys here because he said he could give me directions. Once we got to the alley, his friends came out and attacked me. Or tried to, at least."

"I see. It seems they bit off more than they could chew though." The guard points to Galadriel, sheathed at your side. "That sword though, weren't you just using a halberd? Who are you?"

"Oh. Uh, well I'm-"

"Sibylle?" A familiar voice calls out. A moment later, Nerillian comes into view, bow drawn. "Is everything alright?" He asks.

"Everything's fine father, I told you to wait back there."

"Please, you know I wouldn't...Siegfried? What are you doing here?"

You look back and forth between the woman in front of you and Nerillian. Did...did she just call him father?

"Do you know this person?" The woman, Sibylle, asks.

"This is Siegfried, the man I was telling you about. Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." You finally answer. "These guys just attacked me after one of them led me here."

"They did? Why?"

"No idea. I told them I didn't have any gold, then they said they weren't after my gold."

Nerillian frowns. "Sounds like they were after you specifically then."

'Of course they were.' Leviathan says in your mind. 'They've been following you all day.'

'Wait, what?' You ask, surprised. 'How do you know that?'

'Well I was in his head anyways, I figured I might as well see why he was attacking us.' She responds. 'From what I saw, somebody paid these people to attack you once you arrived.'

'Who did?' Galadriel asks.

'No idea. Fool never saw his face, so I don't know. Clearly someone here is after you though, although if this is their idea of assassins I doubt we have anything to worry about.'

You mull over what Leviathan says, remembering what Zaphiel told you in your dreams, "Be careful who you trust". You'll have to keep that in mind next time someone you don't know offers to be your guide.

"Sorry Sibylle, but I think we might have to cut this short. Captain Laurentius will want to know about what happened." Nerillian says, putting his bow away.

"That's fine. We'll have to take these people down to the jail anyways. We're still meeting for dinner tonight though, right?"

"Unless I'm held up, of course. Come on Siegfried, we need to find Captain Laurentius."

With that, Laurentius leads you out of the alley, back towards the palace. You feel you'll have to have a long talk with Laurentius once you get there, because if what Leviathan said is true, you doubt this will be the only incident while you're here in the city.

Alright, thread's a little short but I'm going to call it a night here. I've got a paper I need to write, so unless I finish it early I doubt I'll be able to run tomorrow. Next thread should be either Friday or Saturday, keep an eye on the twitter in case something changes though.

So we met Nirellians daughter?

Pretty cool.
Hopefully she won't be as annoying as a certain other elf woman.

We should really talk it out with Nirellian.
The dude i usually a bro.

Ask Leviathan to teach you about mind control so at least we can defend against it or search memories of others to make questioning easier.

Also we should have taken the chance to talk about Erika with her father.
>>

>search memories of others to make questioning easier.

That's.....kind of.....questionable
>>
>>43120119
I question the wisdom of using Levi's powers to deal with the thugs. If the word gets out that we're messing with people's minds, it could hurt us.
Mind reading is probably too useful to ignore, but I think mind tricks should be used sparingly.

Oh right Drawnon.

Tiem for requests.

You can post them later in the next thread or on Twitter.

Mine is:
Siegfried with a santa hat on his helmet giving out enchanted gear to his honor guard.

Erika gets a circlet that has a helmet bound to it and is enchanted with a fire-resist so it hurts less when her spells misfire.

Justine gets a flashy new boar-spear enchanted against monsters and demons as well as a binding that turns it into a amulet.

Reinhardt gets a set of dumbbells enchanted to adjust weight when exercising (so the lazy fuck catches up with everyone).

Joan gets a set of new boots, one enchanted with a Strength and Speed boost and the other with a fire and ice resist so she stays comfy.

Nirellian gets a set of archery gloves with speed and strength enchant respectively (also a dress he can give to his daughter as a present - it's also enchanted with a ward and speed enchant like the towers robes we wear).

Ganleon gets a nice cushion enchanted so it cuts out outside noise to a degree and gives of warmth, it's useful since he can meditate better that way.

Roland gets a new lance bound to a spear and bound to a short-sword + enchanted against demons. (Also a book that teaches about some common sense so he finally realizes his density.)

Celia gets a sword bound to a mace bound to a spear bound to an axe bound to a halberd + enchanted against demons. (To rub in the second defeat and so she can imitate Siegfried later on)

Geoffrey gets an utility belt with storage enchanted bags and a dagger bound to halberd, spear, sword and war-hammer + enchant against demons.

You can make this a series of comics later for Christmass.

We also need to prepare the Halloween edition.

I know, was just poking fun.

I am looking forward to seeing if and when Levi begrudgingly becomes friends with Sieg after they've fought together long enough. If there's a person patient and chill enough to befriend a Demon Lord it'd be him.

And if Gal and Levi will ever get along. That one is a little more far fetched.

>>
>>43126338
Well i had an error in that sentence anyway.

So let's stear the thread away from ''lewds'' and make a discussion of some things we'd like to see.

Like less railroading.
Sieg could have asked a guard in the street for the directions to the barracks or bought something of a merchant and then asked etc.

Also just noticed but Sieg is broke.
Only 6 Gp... Damn that's little.
Maybe he should invest in the alchemists guild he helped to kick-start in Morsland.
>>
>>43126427
I wouldn't call that railroading. Unless you REALLY want to spend another update on how you get to the barracks and that's just not practical. We are given a lot of choice on what we do with our day.
>>
>>43126491
Right.
But i mean we didn't get choices during our week long travel.
Sieg could have talked with some people or learned some spell or something on the way.
>>
>>43126529
Eh,that's probably just a timeskip to help get the plot (tm) going on
>>
>>43126557
Well that timeskip could have just been used to scribble something on our character sheet. i.e. learned one new spell/enchantment or improved known spell/enchantment.
We can pester Sparks about it later. Then he'll have to add it... *evil laughter*
>>
>>43126529
On one hand yeah there no reason we couldn't have like enchanted something on the way but on the other:
>Pacing

That shit is hard to get down normally and its even harder in quest format. Sometimes you got to take liberties even if it might step on someone's toes. Otherwise we'd be micromanaging our entire day and that's just not fun.
>>
>>43126612
Frankly I'm not too sure if pestering him would be a good idea

It kind of sounds, well, demanding in some way
>>
>>43127331
Yaeh... B-but it's just a tiny thing he can retcon.

For example Sieg learned the detect poison spell on the way and it wasn't mentioned because he didn't need to use it.
